A New Approach To Male Birth Control Is Coming
A New Approach To Male Birth Control Is Coming

If the thought of a vasectomy is enough to make you never want to unzip your trousers again, then here’s some good news, new birth control product for men is just around the corner.

Contraline’s Echo-V and Vasalgel are the latest technologies in male contraceptives. These polymer gel-like devices work by being injected into the ‘vas deferens’ (the ball sack), where they harden and block sperm from leaving the body.

Despite researchers unaware of how well the devices will hold up once inside the body, they are well on their way to being available. “Our goal is to be at the FDA’s doorstep in January or February of 2017,” Contraline co-founder Kevin Eisenfrats told Cosmo. “I’m going to give you the conservative estimate, so you can come back and make sure I held my word: We plan on having Echo-V on the market in five years.”

The biggest difference between Vasalgel and Echo-V, however, is how they are inserted into the body. Echo-V is injected via ‘vasintomy’, which unlike a vasectomy is non-surgical. In fact, the whole procedure to inject Echo-V only takes 3 minutes with some local anesthetic, whereas Vasalgel requires a small incision.

“There are a couple of urologists who are testing [the procedure] and they say it’s easier than a vasectomy,” Eisenfrats said. As for cost? Eisenfrats early estimate is that Echo-V will be comparable in price to a vasectomy, which is about $720.

“Men want to help female partners out now, I think times are changing,” he said. If you’re keen to bear the burden of birth control instead of your partner, then the future is now.

In fact, the list features a whopping 14 musicians in the top 30, and it’s not just your average pop star. Country stars Kenny Chesney and Garth Brooks, as well as Calvin Harris and Diddy made it big in 2016. Clearly music and money go hand-in-hand in this day and age.

Researchers Are Close To Discovering An Anti-Ageing Drug For Humans
Researchers Are Close To Discovering An Anti-Ageing Drug For Humans

Those looking for the fountain of youth may soon need to stop looking.

Joint researchers across Washington University in St. Louis and Keio University in Japan have announced that they’ve discovered a compound which could reverse the ageing process in humans.

The international band of brainiacs have been hard at work studying a new compound called ‘Nicotinamide Mono Nucleotide’ or NMN for short. Administered into lab mice as a drug, NMN has shown a reverse in diabetes, a counter decline in metabolism, eyesight and glucose intolerance.

Along with these positive results is the activation of proteins called sirtuins, which naturally decreases in production as the human body ages. What experiments have shown thus far is that mice which were administered NMN aged slower and possessed a longer lifespan than those that didn’t have NMN.

The results have been so positive that NMN has been fast tracked to become the first anti-ageing drug to be tested on humans. Ten human subjects will join the experiment next month when scientists administer the drug to track if the compound can truly reverse the effects of ageing.

“We’ve confirmed a remarkable effect in the experiment using mice, but it’s not clear yet how much [NMN] will affect humans,” said Professor Shinichiro Imai of Washington University in a statement.

“We’ll carefully conduct the study, which I hope will result in important findings originating in Japan.”

If the drug receives the green light for use in humans by governing bodies, it will mark the first ever anti-ageing treatment to be accessible by the public.

Until then, feel free to embrace the stylish silver fox or the old fashioned ways to prevent signs of ageing.

Escape To The Mediterranean In This Syros Island Summer House
Escape To The Mediterranean In This Syros Island Summer House

We’re all about those bachelor pad goals, and this summer house located on the Greek island of Syros will not disappoint.

With a goal to unify the various spaces of the house under one roof racing the Aegean, minimising volume and maximising the home’s breathtaking view of Plagia bay, architects at Block722 worked with the shape of a deconstructed rectangle with massive openings on all sides.

Entering through continuous miniature courtyards planted with aromatic herbs, guests are greeted by the home’s generous common areas covered in local masonry and decked out with soft furnishings, wood, linen and cool stone.

The home’s highlights have to include the bathtub that sits flush with the floor and looks out towards the stunning landscape, and on venturing outside, an infinity pool that gives way to endless ocean. One can dream.

Step Inside The Trippy Yangzhou Zhongshuge Library
Step Inside The Trippy Yangzhou Zhongshuge Library

Libraries can be rather dividing, either catering to those who love reading (or hooking up amongst books) whilst leaving others out.

One particular library in China is trying to change this by turning the conventional hub for knowledge into a grand design experiment guaranteed to give those who walk through its doors an ultra trippy experience even before they pick up a book.

The Yangzhou Zhongshuge library located in China uses unconventional elements to fill the massive 1,000 square metre space. The design itself was created by architectural firm XL-Muse who decked the place out in grand bookshelves, curved walls and a full mirror-glassed floor. The latter reflects the arching bookshelves to make it seem like you’re walking through a vortex of knowledge…or maybe a set piece from Inception.

The concept came about from the simple element of water, with design project leaders wanting to mimic the flowing nature of water through the library. The library will no doubt get new patronage through its doors but whether or not that’s to read or just take selfies or catch Pokemon is another thing altogether.

For now you get to enjoy photos of the untainted space.
