‘Meat For The Tiger’: Conor McGregor’s Risky Steak Move Sends Internet Into Frenzy
‘Meat For The Tiger’: Conor McGregor’s Risky Steak Move Sends Internet Into Frenzy

Conor McGregor may have been stung recently in the Octagon, but he is taking his defeat like a champion. Rather than skulk home and sulk, he appears to still be in Dubai. And rather than spend all his time purchasing Jacob & Co. watches, he now looks to be enjoying a little more of The Skyscraper City.McGregor recently took his family to eat at Nusr-Et – the famed restaurant of internet salt sprinkling sensation Salt Bae.Real name Nusret Gökçe, Salt Bae has made headlines numerous times over the last few months for his carnivore breakfasts, stretching routines and bizarre workouts (not to mention his mind-blowing body fat percentage). On Wednesday he posted a video to Instagram in which he presents McGregor with a “golden steak.”

“Have a look,” McGregor encourages his family, pulling faces while Salt Bae artfully slices the steak.Salt Bae then offers McGregor the chance to sprinkle salt over the meat, which McGregor does. Salt Bae then feeds McGregor a piece of meat off the tip of the knife.Risky but photogenic.Instagram commenters were quick to offer their two cents, with some taking issue with McGregor’s salt sprinkling technique (“Did the salt wrong, bad form… next time”) and others expressing how impressed they were with the video.RELATED: Joe Rogan Reveals ‘Ugly Truth’ About The Carnivore DietTaekwondo expert Farabi Davletchin (@farakicks) wrote: “Meat for the tiger.”The post also, like most posts involving McGregor, descended into a frenzy of fans from rival camps with comments like, “We love you Connor” and “Khabib [strong arm emoji].”McGregor’s future remains uncertain, but he seems to be angling for a rematch – a decider in what would be a trilogy – against Poirier, who lost against McGregor in UFC 178 in 2014, and then most recently beat him at UFC 257 on January the 24th, 2021.

Roger Federer Wins Australian Open Without Hitting A Ball
Roger Federer Wins Australian Open Without Hitting A Ball

After some frantic “will it, won’t it?” questions, the Australian Open finally got underway on the 8th February, 2021, following a three week delay due to The Spicy Cough. Once again, some of the world’s biggest tennis stars have descended upon Melbourne in a bid to claim the first Grand Slam of the year, and a share of the AU$80,000,000 prize money. One man who would have most likely been in the mix (if not a shoo-in) for a trophy is a certain Roger Federer, however, the Swiss superstar is notably absent from this year’s tournament, reportedly due to some recent knee surgery which hasn’t yet fully healed. His absence gives Spanish rival Rafael Nadal a fighting chance of claiming his 21st Grand Slam single’s title, which, as Tennis World USA states, would put him on one more Grand Slam win than Federer – coincidentally, we felt Nadal won last year’s tournament before he even hit a ball for his pink and white outfit. However, Federer won’t be thinking of the missed opportunity, as it seems he continues to command an exceptional amount of attention, even when he’s not in the same country – or indeed even competing. How so? The 39-year old recently posted a Tweet (picked up by Yahoo Sports) congratulating Tom Brady on winning his seventh Super Bowl title (an unbelievable feat in itself) and claiming that “age is just a number.”

The post sparked an outpouring of support from followers.“So nice to see your messages. I can’t say how happy am to receive the news about your return,” one wrote.“4 tweets in 24 hours! You’re making up for lost time, Roger! Always happy to hear from you! But even better when we see on court next month!!” wrote another.Given Roger’s age, many tennis fans wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to throw in the racket sometime soon. Yet, with the arrival of this Tweet, many are speculating he has plenty of years left in him yet. As for us? In our eyes, Federer’s classy Tweet is practically as good as winning the Australian Open. When you consider the levels of skill and the speed at which Roger moves around the court today, he’s still arguably one of the best players in the world and according to Australian tennis ace, Nick Kyrgios is the greatest of all time.RELATED: David Beckham Shows You How To Win Wimbledon Without Playing Tennis“With his skill set, the way he plays the game, I think it’s pure”, Kyrgios said during his recent post-match interview.

“I actually think talent-wise [Rafael] Nadal and [Novak] Djokovic aren’t even close to Roger. Talent-wise, just purely based on talent the way Federer plays, his hands, his serving, his volleys, untouchable.”

Until that talent starts to diminish, we’d expect to see Roger gracing clay, grass and hard courts for many years to come.

How To Wear Longline Pieces & Own The Streets With Class
How To Wear Longline Pieces & Own The Streets With Class

Made famous by Kanye West, urban chic-sters and luxury rock ‘n’ rollers, longline has become a huge trend for men as a comfortable, elegant look.

It’s officially made its mark on the street with b-baller New Yorkers, non-laddish Londoners and the bien stylé dudes in Paris. And more fash-ed up celebrities such as Russell Westbrook and Lenny Kravitz are going long.

Whether the anti-fit style is your thing or not, longline is here to stay this season and pleading ignorance – to the long, is just plain wrong. Clicking through the slide show for this season’s main longline brands, will help, before we get deep down to business.

Breaking It Down

FeatLongline

The longline trend – despite its relaxed, slouchy look – has some rules. Think minimal. That is, keep the colours neutral (black, white, navy, grey, green, brown and so on). Monochrome hues look chic, as do blocking the colours, with minimal prints.

Longline is all about layering and elongating the top half of your body. For the short guy, keep the cut of longline slim so the length doesn’t swallow you. And it experiments with active fabrics like nylon, satins and neoprene, as well as cooler linens and cotton. Void of colour, the texture and contrast is where longline goes deep. Read on for the key longline pieces.

The T-Shirt

Shirt

A t-shirt is the most common fashion item a gentlemen owns. Wearing one now, right? For the longline trend, there exists a few varieties. The first is the ‘skater’; recognised for its loose, free-flowing fit. Great for motion and the active gent, the shirt sometime comes sleeveless. ‘Boxed’ is more sculpted and structured and ideal for layering; while ‘oversized’ is the go-to classic – wide and square so it falls loosely over a pair skinny bottoms.

Now choose your bottoms. Cropped slim chinos under a cotton blazer creates a more smarter look with sockless Derbies, while skinny jeans, a leather biker and neon sneakers offer a more rockstar-urban appeal.

The Knit

Knit

The longline knit comes in two varieties: the cardigan and the sweater. The typical gauge and fabric varieties apply for longline; though fine gauge knits tend to work better, going with the lightness of the silhouette. Both should be unstructured and loose for a more relaxed vibe.

The cardigan should be worn open (to avoid looking like a woollen frock), with the sleeves lean and and the fit across the shoulders and chest relatively fitted. The length shouldn’t surpass mid-thigh either. And wear it over slim-fit denim and a relaxed fit scoop-neck tee to accentuate the openness.

The sweater needs to stay round neck (nothing ‘V’-ed) and cuffed wrists give the sweater some more shape in the longline style. Wear over classic skinnys for a street wear vibe or chinos more a reimagined smart casual look. All under layers should be light to eliminate any bulkiness for the knit.

The Shirt

ButtonShirt

The longline button shirt comes in two styles: granddad or mandarin collar and the typical collared shirt. These are great for working a tailored piece into a street look, especially for a casual night time outfit. Keep the shoulders and arms fitted as the torso has that little bit of extra room – not boxed, however.

The length should hit no longer than half way down the thigh (the longer the more risqué), and you should never tuck the longline style in, as it’s designed to all hang out. And the shirt looks best with the buttons fastened all the way up, neck included. Never, wear a tie.

For summer, pair the shirt in light cotton chinos or linen trousers in a cropped, Japanese-fit; while for winter doesn’t feel as chilly with layers: add a top coat and dark denim in a slim fit to match the weather’s broodiness.

The Bomber

Bomber

The most common form of longline outerwear is the bomber jacket. While the length can vary, from just past the waist to almost knee-length, the bomber should be approached in the same as a normal bomber. Contrast sleeves in leather or denim are a huge trend, adding a varsity jock aesthetic.

It’s great for layering over tees, button-ups and jumpers, pairing it with cool sneakers. And its length means the bomber can replace the mac or trench for a modern take on the classic top coat. Just don’t wear this baby the office.

Most Common Men's Style Myths & Misconceptions Debunked
Most Common Men's Style Myths & Misconceptions Debunked

There’s something thrilling about learning a life-held ‘truth’ is actually, ‘false’.

While most’ve moved on from believing in Santa and betting on making their first mill’ by the age of 30, there remain among us some weird, wonderful and downright stupid myths. Style related, obviously.

Like a friendly sucker punch to the spleen, it’s time the harsh truth surrounding some of fashion’s biggest myths, came out.

But, before you start wearing socks with sandals, some are actually style truths. So, it’s a game, really. Pick, true or false? The only way to find out just how fashionably foolish (or not) you are, is to read on.

Death To Double-Denim

False. Despite Justin Timberlake and Britney absolutely crucifying denim-on-denim (on-denim) in 2001, double-denim is today a worthy style opponent, but it can beat you – if you let it. The double up looks best when the hue, wash, and colour is mixed between the two denim pieces.

That means, a light, washed out denim Levi’s jacket should be paired with dark blue raw jeans, or some black denim skinnys under an untucked, Chambray shirt. Keeping the darker shade of denim on the bottom instead of the top, is a more foolproof move and don’t go too crazy on the distressing to keep it looking clean.

Your Shoes & Belt Should Match

True. Matching shoes and belts in the same colour is the best way to dress. It doesn’t need to be exact, however, given you match the same colour groups. A barely noticeable tone difference in say, the tan of your belt and shoe, adds an edgy nonchalance to an outfit. But, too far from the mark with the shade and you look sloppy – think dark, red brown shoes and tan brown belt.

The last trick is to match the formality or informalities of your shoe and belt. A giant jean belt buckle cheapens patent leather brogues, and suede shoes look to fashion-y under a sleek, business belt. While it really is hard to set firm rules with this one, check the mirror before you head out and if it looks strange – change.

Pink On Men Is A No-Go Zone

False. Pink doesn’t make you stink; poor hygiene does. Now that’s settled, pink is the ultimate spring colour and, like florals, should be embraced. Pastels play up that whole south of France demeanour. As a sock, pocket square or necktie mix pastel with whites or grey and light, linen fabrics, and you’ll be sailing away in no time.

Solid, dark pink is a more statement choice. Or even salmon. Try it with dress shirts, working impeccably under a grey suit; from charcoal to smoke. Add a navy silk tie and polka dot socks and head to work. Pink chinos are for the sartorially brave. Pair with a polo or Oxford shirt and cashmere sweater for an all-American garden party look.

Pink is perfect. Just keep in mind to combine the perky hue with neutral colours and you’ll be peacocking like the men at Pitti Uomo, in no time.

No Sunnies Inside At Night

True. While sunglasses do stop unsuspecting UV rays from hurting our eyes, as well as being a great tiredness concealer after a big night out, there is absolutely no reason to wear them inside – airports and clubs included.

It’s rude, screams impersonality and looks like you’re trying to be a paparazzi-fearing celebrity. And frankly, it’s generally wannabe celebs (those who came 4th place in the 7th season of some forgotten reality show), who don the shades indoors.

And because there’s no sun at night, there shall be no ‘sun’ glasses either; just to clarify. But, wearing sunnies in winter or in overcast weather is fine; the cool accessories protecting the eyes from the grey-ish glare makes for a functional fashion statement.

Black & Brown Should Be Separate

False. Like navy and black, brown and black can ride together in the same outfit. The myth stems from the notion that brown is a dark colour – close to back, so mixing the two can lead to a lack of definition between pieces, which looks messy without some contrast.

Solving the problem is easy. When wearing black, opt for lighter shades of brown. That means, coffee-coloured chinos and a black rollneck cable knit with black suede loafers and a tobacco leather tote. The extra kick in this outfit, is the mixing of fabric – the suede and wool – again adding definition to each piece, without a huge colour change.

RELATED: How Wear & Style Black Jeans For Any Occasion

Slim Is The Only Way To Dress

False. The slim-fit – from jeans to trousers, has maintained a stranglehold on the male silhouette over the past decade. But, with the rise of sportsluxe, an ‘elegant comfort’ trend has emerged; permitting men to adopt slouchier bottoms, with tapered details in the parts that matter.

Cuffed tailored sweatpants and woollen, relaxed-fit trousers with pleats are perfect examples. And, yes, slim-fit is very much still ‘in’ but it’s no longer controlling things. The trick to smart/casual dressing is simple: A looser tee needs a slimmer jean, and a relaxed trouser needs a slimmer shirt. Contrasting top-to-bottom fits. Now, that’s no myth.

Always Stick To What You Know

False. This is one big fat lie that plagues many men: “I couldn’t pull that off.” Or: “It’s just not my style.” Yes, you very much can wear that. And have you even tried? The best way to expand yourself – in anything, is to try new things. It’s the same with clothes, just try them on. We do live in an online world but retail stores have change rooms for a reason and if you’ve got a spare thirty minutes, why not go play dress-ups?

Then, head on home and get to know your wardrobe in a fresh way. The biggest myth debunker is trying on something (or a combination of things) that – by the rule book – doesn’t work, and then realising it actually looks good. That’s how trendsetters do it. By keeping an open mind and experimenting with colours, textures and shapes your personal style will come alive.

Justin Bieber Goes Full ‘Blade Runner’ With Sleek Custom Rolls-Royce
Justin Bieber Goes Full ‘Blade Runner’ With Sleek Custom Rolls-Royce

Customising high-end automobiles is a risky business. Not only is it an incredibly expensive endeavour, but it’s very easy to devalue your car and look like an absolute tool in the process. Less is more, as they say. That’s an adage that doesn’t exist in Justin Bieber’s vocabulary, however – but for once, we’re kind of glad. The Canadian popstar has taken his 2018 Rolls-Royce Wraith and turned it into a bona fide work of futuristic art that pays homage to the storied tradition of concept cars. For those who are not familiar, car brands have a long history of producing eye-catching concept vehicles designed to showcase new styling and/or new technology. These cars very rarely make it into production (indeed, few are actually functional) – they’re just there to push the envelope and grab headlines. Specifically, Bieber’s Rolls is inspired by Rolls-Royce’s 2016 103EX Vision 100 concept car, but unlike that motor, this one’s actually driveable. It’s the work of Californian workshop West Coast Customs, who were made famous by the 2000s MTV show Pimp My Ride. Known for their outrageously lavish and extensive modifications, they’re a favourite of celebrities including NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal and rapper Travis Scott. Bieber’s also a repeat customer, having previously taken his Lamborghini Urus there to get wrapped.Yesterday, West Coast Customs shared a before and after video that reveals just how radically the car was customised. We’re not sure how the Brits would feel about it, though…

The covered wheels and brushed metal exterior are particularly striking, as is the transparent ‘Spirit of Ecstacy’ hood ornament that adorns the front of the car. It’s like something out of Blade Runner or Cyberpunk 2077. It’s not clear if WCC have made any performance modifications to the car (or how the performance of the car will be affected by all that extra weight), but the Rolls-Royce Wraith is a very capable car even stock, capable of putting out 465kW from its twin-turbo V12.RELATED: I Was Chauffeured To Work In The Latest Rolls-Royce & It’s Ruined Me For LifeCompared to the exterior of the car, the interior looks almost stock, but WCC have still tweaked a few things to suit ‘The Biebs’. The car features an extensively upgraded sound system with a gigantic speaker in the trunk as well as ‘Rolls-Royce West Coast Customs’ badges throughout. You can’t have a modded car and not have a fuck-off huge sub. That’s just the rules. The car’s amazing but we shudder to think how much Bieber spent on it. A new Rolls-Royce Wraith starts at 645,000 AUD, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to say this is a million-dollar car. Money well spent, we say: the concept has been executed brilliantly and there’s not going to be anything else on the road quite like it.We’d still rather a Suzuki Jimny, though.

‘We Have It To Ourselves’: Tales Of A ‘Free Range’ Guest At A Luxurious Australian Quarantine Hotel
‘We Have It To Ourselves’: Tales Of A ‘Free Range’ Guest At A Luxurious Australian Quarantine Hotel

Quarantining Australians in Perth have been amazed to find themselves staying in the same hotel as normal paying guests. The ABC last week spoke to one of these ‘quarantinees.’James Whitehouse, a man who “returned from the UK after attending his father’s funeral and has nearly finished his mandatory stay on Level 2 of the Hyatt Regency,” told the ABC he was alerted to the presence of ordinary guests, staying there by choice, when he saw patrons on the floor below him had access to a balcony and fresh air.“If I was the paying customer I would not be taking that risk,” Mr Whitehouse told the ABC’s 7.30 report.

“I’m amazed the hotel’s been allowed to do that by the government.”

“I thought the whole idea was that we were in isolation.”To get the other side of the story, DMARGE spoke to one of the hotel’s free-range (within limits) guests – Lauren Wilson.Lauren, who is a psychology student at UWA, told DMARGE she was on “staycation” at the Hyatt Regency Perth from the 28th to the 30th of January.“My husband had credits to use so we decided to go to the Hyatt. He knew ahead of time that it was a quarantine hotel but we weren’t sure how it was actually gonna work out. We got there and the only levels that the public could stay on were the 1st level and the 9th level. The other levels in between were for people that were Quarantine. There are 4 guards on each level the way that the hotel is laid out made it so that there was one guard per hallway. They looked really bored.”

“When you got onto the Elevator you could only press level one and level 9 and all the other floors wouldn’t light up if you pressed those buttons. The pool was still open, and they still had pool service for food and drinks, but it was kind of weird because there would be people just staring down at you swimming wishing they were there.”

“Overall it was a great little staycation. It was super quiet and it felt like we had the hotel [and pool] to ourselves.”“We went on a beautiful weekend where the weather was perfect for swimming. We went at the end of each day and there was only ever one other family there. So good. We could actually relax and enjoy the pool! And it was great for our young kids learning to swim, not stressful for them with it being so quiet.”With The Age journalist Emily Woods, who stayed at the Hyatt, reporting on February the 2nd, 2021, “I went on the Hyatt website and found they were offering discounted packages for stays over Christmas and New Year’s Eve,” could this be a smart way to get an epic, bang for buck trip? Not necessarily. Another ordinary paying guest told DMARGE it wasn’t all that amazing for her: “I stayed there during lockdown anyway so didn’t really make too much difference to my stay. I did see all the guards on the different levels though, they had it all under control pretty well at the Hyatt.”

“The Perth lockdown was on too so I was almost in the same position [as the quarantining guests]. We had a balcony room in the regency club and the others would have had no balcony at all! I couldn’t imagine staying in a room with no balcony would be fun!”

DMARGE also spoke to guest Martine McCracken, whose family was in hotel quarantine in Perth in early January, who confirms the jealousy was real: “We were there [in hotel quarantine, at Hyatt Regency Perth] from the 2nd of January to the 16th of January.”

“We had a room on a lower floor with not much of a view, but I remember being able to see the hotel pool in the reflection of an office building and people swimming around. It looked so nice and made us feel a little jealous. Also made us feel a little sorry for our kids.”

“One of the nights there was also an event on in the hotel where they played music until quite late. It didn’t bother us much, however, it actually felt more weird that people would be out in what we assumed was a large group as it’s been a long time since that was the case for us.”Not everyone saw ‘normal’ guests during their stay, however. One guest, Sheridan Hepburn, told DMARGE she quarantined at the Hyatt Regency Perth in the last week of August and the first week of September 2020, “had a view of the pool” and “never saw any other guests.”As of February the 9th, 2021, 7.30, the ABC reports, “understands Levels 1 and 9 of the Hyatt Regency are available to the public, while levels 2 through to 8 are for returned travellers.”

“Members of the public are also welcome to book rooms at the Pan Pacific Perth, another quarantine hotel.”

Tiaan Carstens, who recently stayed at Pan Pacific Perth for his birthday, told DMARGE “the hotel was great” and “there was still lots of life and activity in the restaurant and bar but not many people walking through the halls and lobby.”

“I feel like you either stay in the room or you go out and do something in the city rather than hanging around in the hotel.”

Carstens also told DMARGE he didn’t know Pan Pacific Perth was a quarantine hotel when booking: “Nope we had no idea. No one told us.”

“We wouldn’t have found out if it wasn’t for one of our Uber drivers that asked if we were scared to stay there.”

A WA Health spokesperson has confirmed two Perth quarantine hotels were open to the public, saying both were required to “meet strict requirements” (such as employing separate kitchen staff) and ensure that “the hotel is clearly divided into two very separate areas,” according to the ABC.

WA Premier Mark McGowan has reportedly said the use of quarantine hotels by members of the public had been “queried at length” with medical advisors, and the advice was that “it is not a risk.”Though Perth is now coming out of last week’s lockdown, various restrictions will remain in place until February the 14th.“All residents must continue to wear masks while outside their homes except for during vigorous outdoor exercise,” PerthNow reports. In addition, “A 20-person limit will be imposed on all private indoor gatherings, while a four square metre rule and a cap of 150 attendees will apply to hospitality and retail venues and weddings.”

“Restaurants, pubs and bars can only have seated service and only essential travel is permitted in and out of the combined restricted zone.”

Finally, “Western Australia will also keep its border restrictions in place for both NSW and Victoria,” and “travellers from those regions are required to isolate for 14 days and present for a coronavirus test on day 11.”Health Minister Roger Cook said WA was in a good place after moving “quickly and decisively” to crush the outbreak.

Cook said health officials were continuing to hunt for more contacts of the hotel security guard whose testing positive of Covid-19 prompted the lockdown, “with almost all of those identified so far returning negative COVID-19 results,” according to PerthNow.“Authorities have identified 528 people linked in some way to the guard, who unwittingly roamed the streets of Perth while infectious,” PerthNow reported on Monday.

“So far 522 have tested negative with just six waiting on test results.”

Clothes Men Need To Stop Wasting Their Money On
Clothes Men Need To Stop Wasting Their Money On

Every season, there arrive those fashion trends that are meant to add a little more hype to those menswear staples you already own. And, in the hunt for the latest and the greatest – whether shopping online or in store – it’s easy to become complacent, rest on your laurels, forgo common sense, and find yourself (post-retail binge) a victim of buyer’s remorse,

Not any more. Saving you from your costly self, here are seven wardrobe buys you should never waste your money on. Clear that shopping cart, put that thing back on the rack. And walk away. Like how your ex walked away from you. Ooft.

The ‘It-Looks-Good-On-A-Fashionable-Guy’ Buy

We have eyes for a reason. And in style, it’s all about looking and making a taste-driven judgement based on what we see. But, here’s were it gets tricky. While that teddy-bear fur jacket worn by an Instagram blogger during Paris fashion week might look work for some (or on McGregor), suppress that little voice inside your social-media head that says: “I’d look good in that.”

Fact is, you probably won’t. Nor will the occasion arise (often enough) to warrant such a not-your-style purchase. Save your pennies (and the precious room in your closet) for pieces you’ll wear at least once a week. While senseless ‘following’ might be ok in Insta-land, it’s not ok in the real world.

The ‘It’s-My-Size-So-I’ll-Buy & Not Try’ Purchase

Unless you’re restocking on an old t-shirt or jean fave, always try the piece on before you buy, even if you know you’re a M or a 32″ waist. For some reason, size does differ brand to brand, and there’s nothing more annoying than getting jeans in the mail, tearing open the box and slipping them on, only to discover you can’t get the button up or they are too big and a little saggy at the butt.

Not only will returning the jeans cost you time and a little bit of money (postage), some of you won’t actually get around to returning the piece out of pure busyness (laziness). Which is literally money down the drain.

The ‘Sale-Item-That’s-Not-Quite-My-Size’ Buy

That blazer you’ve been eyeing off for a month now is finally on sale. You want it.  But it’s an XL, and you’re an M (that size sold weeks ago). The other thing working against you? It’s on final reduction (thus, the incredible discount). That’s the problem. You can’t return it if you change your mind (and you will cause it doesn’t quite fit you, ok?)

Don’t be won over by the fact you love it and want it to fit. And don’t play the whole “isn’t oversized in” card. Put the jacket back on the rack and walk away. Instead, put the money you’re about to waste aside for a better blazer from the same brand (even if it means paying full price). At least you can wear this one cause it fits you.

The ‘I-Already-Own-Three-Versions-Of-It’ Buy

We get it. You like white sneakers. Or metallic aviators. Or navy Breton shirts. So before you go and buy another horizontal striped tee, consider the other three Avalon-esque tops you’ve got at home (do you really need a fourth?)

If you must buy one, head home with your new addition and throw away one of the older versions. At least this way, you can mask your shopping problem as a simple case of wardrobe upgrading. Nothing wrong with that (you addict).

The ‘Sufferance-Piece-That-Will-Kill-Me’ Buy

We’re not ones to suffer for fashion (athleisure and sportsluxe drove the final nail into the uncomfortable menswear coffin a while ago now). Beyond relaxed jeans and scoop neck tees comfort can also come down to fabric. We’re talking about that pure wool sweater or roll neck knit that you’ve tried on and looks great.

But, it itches you like crazy. Think about it, if it’s itchy (or pinchy or bitey) for five minutes you’ve spent in change room, imagine how your skin will feel after an hour or (don’t go there) a whole day’s wear? After one bad experience, that hairy, scary piece of clothing is going to look great on a hanger in your closet, at your wallet’s expense, but that’s about it.

The ‘Sales-Assistant-Made-Me-Do-It’ Buy

Don’t misread us, sales staff have their place, but sometimes it all gets a bit OTT, and soon enough you’re walking out of the store with a new style purchase that you kinda like. That’s not good enough. Your fashion buys should give you a buzz (retail therapy is called therapy for a reason) and a pressure-purchase just results in buyer’s remorse.

So, if the sales person says it looks good and you think so too (a flood of endorphins is usually a good sign), you can make the purchase. Otherwise, you’ll be dealing with a wardrobe full of half-loves. And unfortunately, piled together, they never quite make a full-love outfit. Can’t say no? Runaway from the retail assistant. Or, shop online.

The ‘It’s-A-Designer-Label’ Buy

Weird flex but ok. Look, we’ve all been there. Our sense of good judgment eclipsed by a flashy brand name or designer label. While it’s nice to have a little bit of luxury in your life, a designer label doesn’t mean it will work for you, your lifestyle or complement your body shape or complexion.

Or worse, you could be swept off your feet by a tasteless logo print t-shirt or garish branded belt buckle, lacking any sense of original style. In the end, you’re left with a costly wardrobe malfunction.

Only buy designer when you understand what really works for you – then the investment can be worthwhile. And if you’ve already made the fashion mistake, try turning your bad choice into an investment. There’s always eBay.

What To Pack For A Weekend Away
What To Pack For A Weekend Away

Think of an empty suitcase like an empty stomach. Here’s our guide on what to pack for a weekend away.

With nothing inside, it’s screaming to be filled. And you will. You’ll pack it with any old junk you find lying around (it will be junk because no one makes responsible decisions under that kind of duress).

Afterwards, when you think back on the calorific meal you chomped down or the back-busting bag you just hauled through the airport, you’ll be filled with regret.

Overblown? Maybe a little, but the premise stands. A weekend away requires careful packing. Wait until the last minute and you’re bound to bring half your wardrobe and only a small percentage of what you actually need.

The good news is that you can simplify without sacrificing, as long as you plan ahead and prioritise versatility. Below are the basics on what to pack for a weekend away. Add or subtract more specialised gear as needed.

What To Pack For A Weekend Away – The Bag

What To Pack For A Weekend Away

It starts with the method of transport. A good weekender bag is a must for every man. Look for something stylish and high-quality that fits your budget. With such a vast array of materials, colours, shapes, sizes and price points, it’s worth it to scout around until you find one that’s just right. While you’re at it, scoop up something equally chic for your laptop and any other gadgets that need protecting.

The Clothes

Here’s where things get complicated. Your exact packing list depends on your destination, anticipated activities and the weather forecast. A bag for a business trip looks a lot different from a bag for a ski holiday (unless you’re the high-powered owner of a luxury Swiss Alps resort).

Today let’s keep it simple. For what to pack for a weekend away that’s a basic trip – no extreme weather, no thrill-seeking sports, no client meetings or black tie dinners. For a relaxed trip. here’s what to pack for a weekend away:

Blazer

The navy blazer is the go-to option. It’s a wardrobe staple that can be dressed up or dressed down and easily matched with a number of patterns and colours. It’s a safe bet to have one of these on hand so you can smarten up at a moment’s notice.

Denim

Make it dark and make it slim. It’s all about utility when you’re packing light, and it doesn’t get more practical than this. Steer clear of extremely distressed denim or other distracting details. Pack only your most classic, goes-with-anything pair of jeans.

Chinos

In the event of a smart-casual emergency, deploy these with your blazer (even with chino shorts if weather permits). Alternatively, drop the blazer for cocktails when you want to look nice but not stuffy. Roll the cuffs if your goal is something more casual and fashion-conscious.

T-Shirt

On the list of sartorial basics, it doesn’t get any more basic than this. One simple white tee or another in a neutral colour is a must. Throw in a second if you have space and are concerned about cleanliness. Not sure how? Check out our ultimate guide to dressing up the basic tee.

Dress Shirt

Bring along a button down for nicer evenings out. This cocktail look can pair with anything else on the list – the blazer, the denim, the chinos. Dress it up or dress it down according to your needs.

Sweater

Layers are key when travelling. Pack a cool sweater so you’re prepared for unexpected changes in weather or formality. It can be worn over the dress shirt or the tee, with either bottoms, as well as under your blazer. How’s that for versatility on the run?

Casual Shoes

Leave the fancy kicks at home and opt for lightweight sneakers instead. This is the perfect time to haul out your Converse. If sneakers aren’t your style, loafers or some other kind of slip-on could substitute. Not sure where to start? See our pick of the 20 best sneakers for men.

Dress Shoes

Pack a pair of dress shoes – brogues, Oxfords, monks – for times when your footwear needs to be formal. A nice boot could also work under the right circumstances if you’re headed outdoors.

Socks & Underwear

Weekend commando by name, not by nature. Reliable underwear is a must. Obviously.

The Accessories

You may have noticed a theme with the clothes. Almost everything can be worn with everything else. The right selection, in an appropriately neutral colour palette, can be mixed and matched until you’ve turned limited means into surprisingly unlimited style.

The right accessories are the final piece of the puzzle. While the rest of your wardrobe stays simple, a few well-chosen adornments can be used to brighten and vary your weekend looks. Remember that you’re travelling light, so stick to the basics.

A tie and belt could both come in handy, and neither takes up much room in your bag. Roll them into your shoes to save space. You’ll want all-around stylish sunglasses, so skip anything brash or trendy in favour of classic aviators or Wayfarers.

As to your weekend watch, the same rules apply. Nothing ostentatious. Nothing too dressy. Nothing too casual. Aim for something simple and chic that Goldilocks (if she were a man and into horology) would call “just right.”

The Grooming Gear

Finally, there’s your Dopp kit. There’s only one rule you need to know about packing toiletries for a weekend away: if you use it daily, pack it. If you don’t, leave it in the medicine cabinet.

That means your toothbrush, toothpaste and deodorant can come, along with any skincare or haircare products you use every day. If you take prescription medication, bring a sufficient supply. Take a razor and fragrance if you’ll need them. If possible, pack travel size products to maximize space.

Beyond that, just say no. You’ll be furious when your $400 bottle of face cream made from rare minerals and Nepalese yak sweat explodes inside your bag.

Chris Hemsworth’s ‘Thunderous’ Transformation Continues With Intense Workout

Keeping yourself in peak physical condition is no easy task. Not only do you need to commit hours upon hours to the gym, but you also need to make sure you’re adhering to a nutritious meal plan. You also need motivation, which if you can summon yourself, can be provided by a training partner. While many of us mere mortals may have used the previous year taking a break from our usual fitness exploits or turning our homes into makeshift gyms, one man has had to maintain his moviegoing physique: Chris Hemsworth. The Australian actor is no stranger to leg-crippling and fatigue-inducing workouts, spending his summer in lockdown piling on the muscular pounds in preparation for filming his next outing as everyone’s favourite thunder and lightning manipulating warrior Thor, in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder Marvel flick.Safe to say, he can’t be seen to be slacking.

Judging by his most recent Instagram upload, that doesn’t seem to be a problem. Partnering up with personal trainer Luke Zocchi, Chris can be seen performing sled pulls and pushes. A hard enough task in itself, but when Luke is using himself as the weight – which, he claims to be 74kg (of pure muscle, we presume) – you suddenly realise just how strong the God of Thunder is.“Cheers to the world’s laziest trainer,” Hemsworth captioned the post.Although, after completing two pulls and two pushes, even Chris has to lie down to regain himself.Sled pulls and pushes are great for torching the glues, quads, hamstrings, calves and even the core, making it a truly thunderous lower body workout that will improve your power and strength. They’re a favourite of Hemsworth’s too and are frequently used during his most brutal of workouts. Considering their benefits, we’d recommend you add them into your routine too.

These sled movements, coupled with Chris’ meal plan – which one DMARGE correspondent recently found out is more than a mouthful – allows Chris to pile on the muscle, which according to CNN, spells bad news for his body double, as he’s finding it difficult to keep up with the Australian star’s impressive weight gain. It’s claimed Chris is aiming to transform himself into “the biggest Thor he’s ever been”, notwithstanding the ‘Fat Thor’ character he portrayed for the majority of the Avengers: Endgame movie.
