Tokyo is home to some of the world’s busiest train stations and for a while now they’ve had to deal with groping by seedy men on packed rush hour trains. Whilst the advent of ‘women’s only’ train carriages have helped over the years, Tokyo police have gone one further by releasing an ‘anti-groping’ app which is designed to scare off molesters – and it’s now become a hit.
Passengers who are subjected to groping on public transport can activate the Digi Police app on their smartphone which comes with a voice that blares out “Stop It!” at a high volume to draw attention to offender(s). There’s also an additional feature which turns the phone’s screen into an SOS message for users to show other passengers.
The exact translation of the screen message is: “There is a molester. Please help.”
According to the Japan Times, the app has already been downloaded more than 237,000 times, a stat which is an “unusually high figure” for a public service app, says police official Keiko Toyamine.
“Thanks to its popularity, the number is increasing by some 10,000 every month,” she added. The SOS mode is especially helpful for women who are too scared to call out for help – an issue which arises from the country’s conservative nature.
In 2017 alone there was almost 900 reported groping cases on Tokyo trains with offenders facing fines of up to six months in jail or a fine of $5,500. This jail term can increase to 10 years if violent threats are involved.

Surfing is a sport synonymous with Australia but also has strong roots in North and South America, along with European countries such as Spain and Portugal. The popularity of surfing has required more and more surf brands to release products that not just cater to surfers when in the water – such as wetsuits, boots and rash vests – but out the water too.
Suffice to say: surfing is a sport that requires you to act cool, as well as look it. Your tight muscle t-shirt and Louis Vuitton belt will have you standing out like a sore thumb at after-surf beers, as everyone will usually be wearing an oversized t-shirt and some board shorts or relaxed-fit jeans. Shoes are optional. Unfortunately, there’s little we can do to improve your lineup awareness. What we can do, is help you look the part, with these brands that prove performance is no longer an affront to surfer fashion.
After all, to get into that laidback mindset, there’s nothing like rocking a few on-trend (or carefully chosen retrograde) threads; something the coolest brands below are more than happy to provide.
From Outerknown to Vissla to RVCA to TCSS to Former, these are the only brands the insides of your thighs will ever need to know when it comes to surfer clothing.
How To Wear Surf Brands
It helps if you surf, but you really don’t need to! In fact, most branded clothes are bought by people who’ve never put feet to wax. So all you need to do to is to bin the snapback, throw the trucker cap in the trash and purchase a Mikey Wright style Akubra (if you’re not brave enough to go all out and rock the mullet).
Pair this with some naturally bleached hair, trashed jeans, an oversized scoop neck, sockless Vans, a stupidly comfy jacket, and you’ve got yourself a surfer. Bonus tips include: avoiding tacky accessories and talking about the weather like an overqualified meteorologist.
And never washing your board shorts.
You could also, if you’re so inclined, dress like a skater (a la Craig Anderson) with chinos, button-ups and crew-neck tees or like a nue-age golfer (a la Kelly Slater) if you like to come off as a sophisticated globetrotter with enough dinero not just to travel the world, but also to plant enough trees to counteract the carbon emissions in your wake.
Also worthy of note, for those who emigrated to Mexico 20 years ago and just got back ‘on-grid’, is that legacy brands like Billabong and Rip Curl, despite sponsoring some of the hottest surfers on tour (Griff Colapinto, Italo Ferreira, Gabe, etc.) have lost their sheen in the eyes of the younger audience (in some cases by a magnitude of 40%) creating space for up and comers surf brands like Former, Rhythm, Outerknown and TCSS to heat up the market.

Well he’s not David Beckham for no reason. On his way back from Paris this week the football mega star was spotted at London’s St Pancras International rocking what could only be Beckham’s own version of ‘stained hoodie and sweatpants’.
In fashionista speak that means a slick green suede Harrington jacket paired with a white tee, brown suede pants and polished brown lace-ups. It’s what was in his hands that made it count though. In what is arguably one of the finest carry-on luggage combos going around, Becks rocked a hard shell case from Louis Vuitton alongside a soft leather holdall from Bottega Veneta.
Hiding on his wrist was also the latest Tudor Black Bay Chrono S&G which debuted earlier this year at Baselworld – a perfect accompaniment to the quintessential British hues.
And we can’t help but take a closer look at Beckham’s ultra sharp jacket which features a matching suede shoulder patch often found on British shooting jackets.
Whether he uses the jacket for shooting is irrelevant. It’s all in the details, baby.

In a world obsessed with aesthetics and building the ultimate physique, there’ll always be those seeking ways to speed up the process. We’re talking about using Viagra for bodybuilding and according to Sydney personal trainer Liam Chenery, it’s a rock-solid way to increase your endurance in the gym, decrease fatigue times and aid in increasing muscle mass. And that raging boner you’ll be rocking at the squat rack? “If you start getting naughty thoughts in the gym, blood can be pumped somewhere else,” warns Chenery.
View this post on Instagram
The concept of using Viagra with anabolic steroids to assist in a workout isn’t new. The idea revolves around Viagra’s ability to dilate and open blood vessels in order to deliver the anabolics to working muscle groups more effectively, thus potentially delivering better gains. Chenery doesn’t use the Viagra brand specifically but a more generic version named Tadalafil or Cialis which provides effects to Viagra minus the exorbitant brand markup.
But if Viagra’s properties were so effective at assisting blood flow then why haven’t supplement companies jumped on it? Well they have – they’re just not as potent as Viagra according to the personal trainer.
“There is other ones they add in pre workouts but most pre workouts in general aren’t great. There’s minimal doses to get the right response and that’s why we use the erectile dysfunction stuff. I find that Cialis works a lot better.”
Chenery does highlight the need for due diligence with your doctor before getting on board though.
“It’s generally prescription use only and like any medicine it can give general headaches, dizziness or make you a little light headed.”
Most importantly, Chenery says that he doesn’t take it on his leg days as a lot of blood gets pumped to the legs and he can get dizzy. He only uses it on his upper body workout days which can often extend up to five days a week and in some cases on the weekend.
Dr. Nial Wheate who is a professor at The University of Sydney School of Pharmacy says that cautioned should be exercised.
“We know that Viagra is not a suitable medication for people with heart conditions like cardiovascular disease. For personal training you’re immediately putting a lot of strain on your heart so you’d want to use it with caution.”
“As long as the person using it is healthy underneath, there’s not an immediate problem. Under prescription use, the doctor will have done the questions on cardiovascular risks with users,” he adds.
What’s interesting though is Dr. Wheate’s own take on whether it actually helps in the gym.
“I find it hard to believe that it helps with fitness and exercise. The way it works isn’t going to really improve blood flow around the body or anything.”
If you are going to try the drug before your next arm day, make sure to keep in check how much you take. Chenery says there’s a half life (active in the body) of 16 hours for 5mg of Cialis or Tadalafil. As for that embarrassing boner?
“It’s not that bad. It depends how much people have but I haven’t experienced it. It can make you more susceptible to erections but the goal is to stay focused on the workout,” says Chenery.

Suave. Sophisticated. Cool. James Bond is known for many things, but asking for help is not one of them. The actor that plays him, however, Daniel Craig, is now receiving intimacy training for Bond 25—his last outing as the iconic British agent.
Along with co-star Ana de Armas, 007 will receive extra assistance when filming risque sex scenes, to ensure everyone involved feels comfortable. This information comes from the Sun, who spoke to a ‘film insider’ who said, “Producer Barbara Broccoli and her team are going all out to bring Bond up to speed.”
“It’s all changed in the #MeToo era, and they’re going to extra lengths to make sure all the stars are getting the support they need on set, including during some of the more risqué sex scenes.”
The anonymous source then added that an intimacy co-ordinator, “Is now on set during those scenes and is working with Daniel Craig and new Bond girl Ana De Armas to run through the script and make sure they feel comfortable. It’s really progressive and is a step in the right direction — not just for Bond but the industry as a whole.”
This is all irrelevant for the time being though because—according to News.com.au—“Production of the next instalment is on ice after Craig hurt his ankle during filming in Jamaica,” and the actor currently in US for treatment. For those who fear an even further delayed release of the movie though: don’t worry too much, Craig is expected to return this week.
“It seemed a disaster at first, but the injury is not severe,” (The Sun).
This is part of a broader Hollywood trend, inspired by the #metoo movement, where intimacy coaches are hired so that movie directors can ensure nothing untoward happens during filming (and make sure their film doesn’t get brought into disrepute with a lawsuit).
Whatever the case, it seems Daniel Craig is in more need of a physio…

Last week Qantas opened a dedicated ‘points plane’ for booking, upon which seats were only available to purchase with frequent flyer points, giving customers who had amassed the requisite miles the chance to fly-flat from Melbourne to Japan without paying a cent.
With ‘prices’ set at 35,000 points (plus A$182) for Economy, 54,000 points (plus nothing) for Premium Economy, 72,000 (plus nothing) for Business and 108,000 (plus… you guessed it: nothing) for First, there was some speculation as to how popular the Points Plane would be.
While some publications like Finder called it a “fun but not tempting idea,” others like Traveller and Apex celebrated it as an opportunity for passengers to use their points for what they were really saving them for (let’s be honest, we’d all rather an upgrade than a free bottle of wine). Meanwhile, the comments section of Australian Business Traveller revealed divided opinions.
Some revelled in the ‘no status’ preference, which gives silver and bronze members a chance to get a seat on a popular route they normally wouldn’t get a look in on, while others worried about the implications it might have on the Rugby World Cup. Suffice to say: no one was 100% certain whether consumers would write off the Points Plane as a publicity stunt, or buy into the hype and get their passports out.
As Qantas informed us this morning, the plane is now entirely sold out of Business and First Class seats, and—what’s more—they sold out in less than 9 minutes. So, it appears passengers have seen the value in this new service—regardless of the fact that it doubles as a marketing campaign.
Qantas also told us that there are still 200 Economy seats left. If you’re tempted to book one of these, here’s how you do it.
- Log in to your QFF account
- Search for Flights (one way) and select ‘Use Points’
- Input flight details – Melbourne to Tokyo (Narita), departing Monday 21 October 2019
- Ensure the correct flight (QF79) is selected before booking
- Enjoy!
If, on the other hand, you are one of the lucky Business or First Class passengers, who has already booked a Pointy End spot, and have enough Qantas Points left over to bring a family member along in one of the 200 Economy seats that are still available, here’s how you do it.
- Calculate eligible family members’ points total (see Qantas’ family transfers page)
- Family members log in and select Transfer points
- Transfer a minimum of 5,000 and a maximum of 600,000 (warning: for the purposes of keeping your points from expiring, this does not count as activity on your account, or the account you transfer points to)
- Follow ‘For me’ booking process
You can also, if you don’t have quite enough points (and if you’ve been a frequent flyer for at least 30 days), purchase top up points, to get you over the line (and into Japan).

Timeless is a term that’s often thrown around by fashion pundits, but when it comes to men’s footwear, one of the most enduring dress shoe styles to this day is still the monk strap. It’s an odd name for a shoe, but there’s a very good reason for the religious tie-in.
Monk Strap History
During the 15th century in Europe, the life of a monk was relegated to worship and manual labour. Part of their daily ritual revolved around traversing the hills of Europe in order to reap, sow, plough, and bind crops for their villages. This was conducted arduously from sunrise to sunset and in order to carry out these tasks efficiently, the monks had to wear double strap sandals. In the hills, however, they required footwear with a bit more protection that wouldn’t slow down their work; therefore, a closed version of the sandal was devised as a practical and robust shoe that covered the foot.Since then, monk straps have entered the fashion realm and are more of a formal dress-code statement shoe than a manual labour shoe.
How To Wear Monk Straps
The beauty of the modern monk strap shoe is its ability to be worn both casually and formally. Make no mistake though, if you’re rocking monk straps, you will be noticed – for the right reasons.
Monk Straps With A Suit
The most stylish pairing for monk straps is a nicely tailored suit. Obviously, there are some colour rules to follow but they are pretty flexible these days. Like other dress shoes, black and brown monk straps are still the most versatile colours that can be matched with various suit colours and styles.
Monk Straps With Jeans
Keep the jeans fitted or slim and you have a winning look that straddles the fine line between formal, stylish, and smart casual.
Monk Straps With Chinos
For a purely fashionable statement, monk straps and chinos are the way to go. This combo is especially popular with the smart casual crowd and can often be seen at parties or race days.
Monk Straps With Shorts
One of the harder looks to pull off is the monk strap and shorts combo. It follows the same principle as suiting, and the only rule is no baggy shorts and no exposed socks.
