Bremont Unveil Their Strongest Watch Ever Born From The Antarctic
Bremont Unveil Their Strongest Watch Ever Born From The Antarctic

Tested to the limits. This is a term that’s thrown around all too often these days but when Bremont takes on the tired old cliche, they actually follow through with a technical masterpiece.

Say hello to the limited edition Bremont Edurance, a piece that’s been born from the coldest corners of the Earth. To pull off such a task, renowned British polar explorer Ben Saunders was called upon to take the watch to its limits via his latest Trans-Antarctic Solo Expedition.

The deal was made and the watch had soon set out with Ben on November 2017. Destination: a deadly west-to-east traverse across Antarctica – alone. To understand the gravity of such a dangerous expedition, one simply needs to look at the man who planned Ben’s route. Lt Col Henry Worsley was Ben’s close friend who died in a hospital in Chile from illness after attempting the very same expedition he’d set out for Ben.

Ben wasn’t a quitter though and with 7,000km of expedition time spent in the polar regions, he’d set out to finish what his friend had started.

Knowing the challenge that faced him, Bremont developed one of their most robust timepieces ever to ensure Ben could track his progress with precision timing even in amongst mother nature’s extremities.

And with that, the specs. The Bremont Endurance looks and plays the part – it’s no pretender. Starting with the movement, we have a modified calibre 11 1/4’’’ BE-93-2AE automatic chronometer boasting a 42-hour power reserve. This movement drives the hours, minutes and seconds hands alongside a 24H GMT hand. There’s also a date window at the 3 o’clock mark to make sure the count of days aren’t lost when the region sees 24 hours of daylight during summer and 24 hours of darkness during winter.

On the cobalt black metal dial there’s a globe etching as well as Super-LumiNova coated hands and applied indexes for easy legibility.

All of this is encased in a 43mm satin polished titanium case to ensure absolute strength and lightness when going up against the elements. A bi-directional rotating compass bezel with Super-LumiNova and protective patented anti-shock movement mount also comes as part of the package.

These specs are further reinforced with a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a titanium caseback and 500 metres water resistance.

Reliability of the chronometer is also certified by C.O.S.C and the watch comes individually serial numbered with accompanying C.O.S.C certification.

A striking orange NATO strap with additional rubber Temple Island strap wraps up the Endurance model nicely as does a limited run of just 300 pieces.

“I wore a prototype of the new Limited Edition Endurance during my Trans-Antarctic Solo Expedition,” says Ben.

“A reliable timepiece is a vital piece of equipment on a polar expedition, and this new watch performed faultlessly on some of the toughest conditions I’ve ever encountered.”

The watch retails for AU$8,150. See Bremont for more details.

Donald Trump Declares Himself A Hero:
Donald Trump Declares Himself A Hero: "I Really Believe I'd Run In There Even If I Didn't Have A Weapon"

Male egotism is a common trait amongst today’s society. Boasting about a new promotion; showing off the new bachelor pad; gramming your bodybuilding gains to all five of your followers.

And then you have the President of the United States, a man who has today taken the liberty of publicly announcing himself as the imaginary hero of the recent Florida school shooting. After a week of fierce debate over what measures should be taken after the tragedy, Donald Trump has not only thrown his support behind the NRA but also called for the arming of “trained” teachers.

And this isn’t even the most daunting part of Trump’s ongoing spiel. Overnight he stood in front of the White House governors’ meeting and told attendees that, “you don’t know until you’re tested, but I really believe I’d run in there, even if I didn’t have a weapon.”

“And I think most of the people in this room would have done that too,” he continued. “Because I know most of you.”

The President’s outlandish comments come off the back of his own scathing criticism of the first officers on the scene who couldn’t prevent the massacre of 17 people at the school.

They “weren’t exactly Medal of Honour winners,” said Trump. “The way they performed was frankly disgusting.”

Whilst his latest comments are sure to rile up a nation already on the edge, damage control was left to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders who later told reporters that when President Trump said that he’d have run into the school with the active shooter, he didn’t really mean that he’d run into a school with an active shooter but rather that he’d “be a leader”.

Extra slow clap.

'Manly' App Allows Men To Add Fake Muscles & Tattoos For The Perfect Selfie
'Manly' App Allows Men To Add Fake Muscles & Tattoos For The Perfect Selfie

Love a good topless selfie but lacking in the ab department? There’s now an app for that.

Manly is the latest photo editing app designed specifically for men who want to catfish like a God look hotter than they really do on social profiles.

The app allows users to edit their photo to an endless array of aesthetic options in order to appear more “manly”. To be more specific, users take a body shot like they would for Instagram and run it through the photo editing program. The options range in everything from general body shape to chest and pecs to abs and biceps. There’s even a “Chic and cool tattoos” feature which allows men to add a raft of tattoo designs to create the ultimate fuccboi representation of the modern bachelor.

It doesn’t end there though, Manly even allows users to alter their skin colour and change their hair-dos and beard styles. Users who want to go full narcissist can opt for accessories or coloured contact lenses. It’s basically a surgery-free way to follow in Rodrigo Alves’ footsteps, limited only by one’s stupidity imagination.

Whilst it’s easy for most men to have a laugh at such an app, other social commentators and male body image advocates haven’t been so impressed.

“A lot of people think body image struggles only affect women, but we’ve seen an increasing number of men desperately trying to live up to the male beauty ideal that we constantly see across the media and advertising- a ‘fit, ribbed and bulky’ body,” Denise Hatton, co-founder of the Be Real Campaign, told The Independent.

“Apps like Manly play into the damaging narrative that to be considered an attractive man, you need to look a certain way, making it extremely toxic for impressionable young men. Just when we finally started to see progress with brands becoming more responsible through their advertising and reducing excessive airbrushing, then comes along an app like Manly. This app and others like it are a massive step backwards in creating a society that is less focussed on appearance and more about who we are.”

Manly launched on the App Store late last year and has been fielding cries of refund since. It does however have a high rating probably due to its novelty factor and because it’s free to download.

Watch the promo video below to see how the app works.

Gucci Donates US$500,000 To Gun Control Movement
Gucci Donates US$500,000 To Gun Control Movement

The fierce debate over firearm use in the United States is beginning to reach a tipping point with Gucci becoming the first fashion label to actively join the gun control movement.Overnight the Italian luxury house announced that it will be donating US$500,000 to March For Our Lives, the organisation which is bringing together next month’s rally in Washington D.C for a push on tighter gun laws. Gucci also announced that people from their own team will be at the event to bolster support.Whilst many fashion labels tend to stay neutral in the face of volatile political issues like these, Gucci has had a history of getting involved wherever they can. The brand has had its fingers in gender equality movements and anti-poverty campaigns whilst being a direct victim to a shooting tragedy. During the 2016 mass shooting in a Florida nightclub where 49 people were killed, Gucci lost one of its own employees whilst another was critically injured. The latest mass shooting in Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in which 17 people were killed only serves as a further catalyst for Gucci’s involvement.“We stand with March For Our Lives and the fearless students across the country who demand that their lives and safety become a priority,” Gucci said in a statement. “We have all been directly or indirectly impacted by these senseless tragedies, and Gucci is proud to join this movement with a donation of US$500,000.”Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele also chimed in with his sentiments towards those affected. “I am truly moved by the courage of these students,” he said.“My love is with them and it will be next to them on March 24. I am standing with March for Our Lives and the strong young women and men across the United States who are fighting for their generation and those to come.”Gucci’s stance follows on from a trialling week for the NRA with major national airlines like United and Delta publicly withdrawing their support from powerful firearms organisation.

Suitsupply Lost 12,000 Followers For Using This Image In Their Ad
Suitsupply Lost 12,000 Followers For Using This Image In Their Ad

Fresh controversy has hit the Dutch menswear label widely recognised for its fast and affordable quality suiting.

The uproar began when Suitsupply debuted their spring/summer 2018 campaign called ‘Find your perfect fit’ across its social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as their global retail stores.

The ad campaign, which wouldn’t have raised much of an eyebrow if it featured a man and a woman, featured men in Suitsupply’s garments engaging intimately with one another.

The backlash was swift with Suitsupply’s Instagram account losing 12,000 followers, according to the company. The image on Facebook has also amassed over 600 comments with people of all agendas chiming in with their opinion on Suitsupply’s latest marketing stunt.

Suitsupply’s CEO Fokke de Jong told Business Insider that he expected the backlash.

“We do not aim to and cannot control the reactions, however, the new followers and positive messages that have been prominent in our social media is a good indicator that this campaign has been well received and has impacted many people positively. It’s amazing what one kiss can do.”

De Jong further explained that their latest campaign was motivated by the notion of inclusiveness towards all relationships and added that gay imagery was “long overdue” for the brand.

“The message of this campaign is love, attraction and passion. We are a fashion company and we sell clothes but it was not targeted to commercialise the gay community. It was to show the message of love and attraction stylised by Suitsupply,” he said.

Suitsupply isn’t new to marketing controversy, with their 2016 campaign featuring miniature men in suits riding the face of enlarged women.

Baume & Mercier Channels Motorsports With The Indian Motorcycles Collection
Baume & Mercier Channels Motorsports With The Indian Motorcycles Collection

Earlier in the year Swiss watchmaker Baume & Mercier unveiled a duo of their most affordable models from the Clifton Club line of sports watches.

With intricate motorsport styling and a high degree of wearability, the Indian Motorcycles collaboration known as the Clifton Club Legend Tributes captured our collective hearts and wrists over at SIHH 2018.

The watches come as two solid chronograph models in the aptly named Chief and Scout, named after the respective motorcycle models.

Clifton Club Legend Tributes Scout Ref. MOA 10402

Anyone who knows their heritage motorcycles will be well acquainted with the Indian Motorcycles name which was established way back in 1901.

The American manufacturer of vintage bikes was the sole inspiration behind the Scout timepiece which features a semi-opened dial to reveal the inner-mechanics much like the design of the bike.

The Scout is powered by the robust Valjoux 7750 automatic movement which affords an hours, minutes, seconds, and date function alongside chronograph counters at the 6, 9 and 12 o’clock indexes.

On the dial it’s all about the opaline grey which is finely contrasted with the snailed black chronograph counters and the aforementioned partial opening alongside a gold seconds hand. Green Super-Luminova is applied to the indexes to ensure legibility.

The watch’s power reserve clocks in at 48 hours and the whole package is housed in a 44mm stainless steel case which is paired with a brown calfskin strap to mimic the motorcycle’s saddle.

The watch affords a 50 metre water resistance rating and only 1901 examples of the Scout will be released to reflect Indian Motorcycle’s debut year.

Similar to the Scout, the Chief takes all of the inner workings but changes it up with a fresh dial design and strap designation.

On the dial it’s all about the opaline black which is finely contrasted with the snailed silver-coloured chronograph counters and a red racing stripe which circles the dial and covers the seconds hand.

Power reserve is also 48 hours and the whole package is housed in a 44mm stainless steel case which is paired with a stainless steel bracelet.

Only 1901 examples of the Chief will be released to reflect Indian Motorcycle’s debut year. Both models can be identified with the caseback engraving which wears the Indian Motorcycles logo.

Robots Will Soon Be Able To 'Feel' With Self-Healing E-Skin
Robots Will Soon Be Able To 'Feel' With Self-Healing E-Skin

Scientists hellbent on bringing forth our robot overlords are at it again.

This time it’s the Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder who have created a new electronic skin which can mimic the functions and behaviour of real human skin.

Whilst its use is aimed at giving prosthetics the ability to provide sensory feedback to their users, the device has also been touted for use in robots. More specifically, the e-skin will allow robots to feel human sensations by a single touch alone.

An example is the ability to detect a fever on a human by touching them with the e-skin wrapped around a robotic finger.

“Let’s say you wanted a robot to take care of a baby,” said Jianliang Xiao, an assistant professor at the university’s Department of Mechanical Engineering who heads the research.

“In that case, you would integrate e-skin on the robot fingers that can feel the pressure of the baby. The idea is to try and mimic biological skin with e-skin that has desired functions.”

The broad range of applications of e-skin can also extend beyond that with built-in sensors that can measure humidity and air flow alongside the aforementioned temperature and pressure.

Another property that it will take from human skin is the self-healing aspect. E-skin is made from a polymer base called polyimine, a material which possesses both strength and electrical conductivity.

Xiao tells Dezeen that this material composition is key to allowing e-skin to self-heal.

“What is unique here is that the chemical bonding of polyimine we use allows the e-skin to be both self-healing and fully recyclable at room temperature.”

“Given the millions of tons of electronic waste generated worldwide every year, the recyclability of our e-skin makes good economic and environmental sense.”

Recycling the skin to be used elsewhere is a rather straight-forward case which involves soaking the material in a solution that breaks the polymers down into small molecules and nanoparticles.

This broken down solution can then be used to create new e-skin in various shapes and sizes since it’s completely malleable – in other words the material can wrap around complex and curved surfaces – like real skin.

Haven’t we seen this movie before? Nonetheless, Boston Dynamic’s latest robo dog could do with some skin just to make it a bit more lifelike for when it decides to take revenge.

Calvin Harris Stole Conor McGregor's Suit Idea For The Brit Awards
Calvin Harris Stole Conor McGregor's Suit Idea For The Brit Awards

It appears the lettered pinstripe suit is finally catching on a year after Conor McGregor debuted the ‘F*ck You’ suit which raised a many eyebrows in the world of bespoke tailoring.

At the 2018 Brit Awards last night, superstar DJ Calvin Harris took a bit of inspiration from McGregor by rocking a G-rated version of the lettered pinstripe suit with the words ‘Christian Dior’, ‘PARIS’, ‘ATELIER’ and ‘3 Rue de Marignan’ stamped all over the monochrome ensemble.

Harris paired the suit with a classic black shirt sans tie and a white rose lapel pin which represented the #MeToo movement in the entertainment industry.

And let’s not forget about the polished shoes. If you’re going for a look this loud, it’s important to back it up with footwear that is equally slick.

Did Calvin Harris do the ‘F*ck You’ suit justice? You can let us know in the comments below.
