Glitter champagne, lavish bedspreads; freebies. To the Average Joe, the life of an influencer is all fun in the sun. They usually have bodies toned to near-impossible proportions, are tanned all year long, and live a life you can only dream of. All without lifting a finger (let alone a barbell). But despite the stereotypes, influencers work hard to provide a service, whether it be cultural insight (occasionally) or a shimmering outfit (often). They can also, as German Instagram influencer and model Rahel Chiwitt just showed, give us behind the scenes glimpses into fitness worlds unknown. That’s right: while you might assume Europe’s wealthy holiday goers spend their days eating caviar and their nights drinking champagne, Rahel has just shown some of Italy’s most refined holiday locales possess lavish gym setups, for those that want to have their health and eat it too.Holidaying working on the Mediterranean island of Sicily, Italy, Rahel recently gave her followers a look at her makeshift gym set up that, while not as kitted out as your local gym bro haven, was built in what is unarguably one of the coolest locations you’ll not only ever see, but a place where you’ll almost certainly never find yourself working out.
“Essentially, you’re a photographer, journalist, director, producer, model, critic, PR, and personal assistant to yourself all at once.”
Rachel also quotes fashion influencer Julia Lundin as saying, “I had to learn everything from marketing to the depths of SEO, develop strong negotiation skills, create content every day, and maintain a strong connection with my audience. It’s 24/7, it never stops but it’s what I love to do and am motivated and determined to keep going.”story film develops.

Since 1953, the Rolex Submariner has arguably been the world’s most iconic dive watch as a result of its breadth of capabilities and simple, yet gorgeous design. Having been updated recently this year, there is a lot of hype around the watch, but if you can’t stretch to the A$11,400 asking price or more likely are on a decade long waiting list, this US$279 Timex, might be the perfect alternative.
Featuring a black unidirectional rotating bezel, black dial and luminescent markers all packaged into a 40mm stainless steel case, it’s safe to say it doesn’t look a far cry from its Rolex counterpart. It is also powered by an automatic movement, however, the Timex’s is made in Japan, making it dependable and accurate. This is all held on by a classy and comfortable stainless steel bracelet that almost looks like a scaled down version of Rolex’s infamous Jubilee bracelet. There are an array of small details that really add to the character of the watch, including a red seconds hand, a unique ‘T’ hours hand and the luminescent paint in off white gives the watch a look of ‘patina’ which is ever so desirable these days.
Whether you’re heading out to sea or doing some ‘desk diving’ the Timex M79 Automatic could be the perfect companion and for $279, it’s very reasonably priced.

2020 has been tough on people’s mental health. Not only does the ongoing pandemic present a physical health threat, but the strict social distancing measures it’s precipitated have starved us of human contact, exacerbating our woes.A trend that’s seen growing momentum, particularly in 2020 where mental health has become such a priority, is professional athletes being more open about their mental health. For better or for worse, athletes are role models – so to see some of the biggest names in world sports; some of the most physically fit and successful human beings alive, share their challenges with mental health, is an incredible source of inspiration and relief.Earlier this week for World Mental Health Day, NBA-focused Instagram blog Playmaker shared a collection of quotes from a variety of different male athletes – from NBA superstars to even Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Michael Phelps (the most decorated Olympian of all time) – all of whom have struggled with their mental health, even while being at the pointy end of human performance.
View this post on Instagram
Quotes included, “I remember sitting in my room for days not wanting to be alive. That was a struggle for me. I reached the point where I finally realized I couldn’t do it alone,” (Michael Phelps).“I underestimated mental health. I had anxiety, a little bit of depression, from being locked in the bubble. I just wasn’t here, I was checked out. Games 2,3,4, I wasn’t there,” (Paul George).
“If mental health can bring somebody as big and strong as me to my knees, then it can bring anybody to their knees,” (Tyson Fury).
While The Bat Kiss has affected some countries more than others – we can’t help but be envious of our neighbours across the Tasman in New Zealand, for example – this catastrophe has touched all of us, including the rich and famous: just because celebrities make a lot of money doesn’t make them immune to mental health concerns.Of course, there were some skeptical comments: “Lmao imagine being rich and acting like your life is hard, like you couldn’t just buy whatever you want whenever you want”. Los Angeles Clippers small forward Paul George was a particular focus of ire, with dozens of comments calling him “Pandemic P” and jokes like “lol paul george still makin excuses”.Yet just as many commenters were grateful for the mental health inspiration, and took umbrage at other’s skepticism.“People think just because they make millions doesn’t mean they can’t have mental issues,” one fan adroitly related.Another athlete who’s notably fought the stigma of talking about mental health has been former NRL great Anthony Minichiello, who recently launched a mental health initiative called ‘Planking for Positivity‘ and shared exclusively with DMARGE tips on how to broach the subject with others. While there’s still a way to go in how we talk about men’s mental health (and mental health generally), these superathlete revelations are a positive sign.

Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen has taken the wraps off a brand new and limited-edition Pilot's Watch that hails from an ultra-exclusive model that was destined for U.S. Navy pilots. That model, launched in 2018 through a partnership between IWC and the U.S. Naval Aviation Community, was bestowed upon graduates of the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor – or TOPGUN – graduates.
While you will never be able to get your hands on that model, you can get your wrist around the company's new Pilot's Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition "SFTI" that, while not an exact replica, draws heavily on its ancestral relative.
In true IWC Pilot's watch style, this latest TOP GUN employs a 44mm case constructed from black zirconium oxide ceramic, the same material used for IWC's other TOP GUN edition watches. Not only does the black material give the timepieces a suitably stealthy look, but it is incredibly tough and resilient, making it ideal to withstand the extreme forces placed on pilots in the cockpit during high-speed flight.
Further material innovations come in the form of Ceratanium, a material that IWC developed in 2017 that is lighter than titanium but just as scratch-resistant. Ceratanium has been applied to the caseback and the pushers, essentially making the entire watch scratch resistant.
IWC has fitted the 69380 calibre, a self-winding movement that provides 46 hours of reserve power.
What keen IWC fans and eagle-eyed enthusiasts may notice, however, is that this particular TOP GUN rocks more red accent. The small second hand, the tail of the chronograph second hand (styled in the shape of a plane) and subtle rings around the pushers, all get the 'rouge' treatment.
As for slightly more major differences between this model and the one it draws inspiration from, this TOP GUN includes three chronograph sub-dials as opposed to the former's two, and this model also gets both day and date windows. The original had to make do with just the date.
You're also given this Pilot's Watch SFTI Limited Edition on an olive green textile strap, which is near as makes no difference, the same one as you get on the Pilot's Watch Spitfire.
If you're taken by the looks of this latest Pilot's from IWC (and we feel you should be, it's rather fetching) then you'll want to be quick to snap one up. It's limited to just 1,500 pieces and can be bought now for US $9,150/AU $14,200

Bondi’s Amalfi Beach club cabanas sit jauntily in the sand. The influencers loll in coconut oil. The water is warm. The beer is cold. The sand shimmers. All is well with the world – and then you take off your pants.
This isn’t a night terror so much as an impending scenario for thousands of Australian men, who, when it comes time to strip down to their budgie smugglers this summer, face the choice of proudly rocking their dad bods or shamefully slinking into the water.
Leaving aside the pros and cons (hint: it’s mainly cons) of the pressures men face to have a torso like Ronaldo and legs like Ramos (or else be cast into the eternal hell fires of Instagram anonymity), the reality is that – rightly or wrongly – there is still an element of shame (on this author’s part) to hitting November and being woefully unprepared to show off at the beach.

Liam Hemsworth has just raised the stakes. Alongside Ross Edgley – British cardio strongman and author of The World’s Fittest Book – Hemsworth recently took to an outdoor gym, showing off a workout that puts the rest of us to shame.
View this post on Instagram
“Took it upon myself to teach @rossedgley how to train properly. With my help I see some real potential in him. Keep up the good work little guy,” Hemsworth captioned the post.
Edgley posted the workout to Instagram too, revealing Hemsworth had completed some 50kg weighted pull-ups, as well as sled pulls (of what appears to be 100kg or more).
View this post on Instagram
“The ONLY logical way to celebrate any birthday… train biceps and eat burgers with my little/big brother @liamhemsworth. An absolute weapon, the only thing bigger than his 50kg weighted pull-ups is his appetite.”
This comes after Edgley battled to keep fit in Australian hotel quarantine, with nothing but an exercise bike and a few free-weights.
At the time DMARGE predicted Edgley was doing exercises to prepare for the aquatic playground that is the Land Down Under. Though we’re yet to see a post of him surfing, we’d argue it’s only a matter of time, with this latest post only showing Edgley is more prepared than ever (physically) to take on The Pass crowds with a longboard.
For his part, Hemsworth appears to still be dating Australian model Gabriella Brooks in low key style; presumably a welcome departure from his highly public break up with Miley Cyrus.
Rumours also abound that the English adventurer and motivational guru Edgley is training Chris Hemsworth too, for a secret project.
More to come as the torsos develop.

The French are renowned for their cuisine, the phrase ‘French restaurant’ immediately conjuring up images of sumptuous fine dining, snooty waiters and expensive bottles of wine. But it’s no secret why French cooking tastes so good: it’s because French chefs don’t shy away from adding mountains of butter to their dishes. Food journalist, chef and legendary ‘bad boy’ Anthony Bourdain’s groundbreaking 1999 essay Don’t Eat Before Reading This – which formed the basis of his best-selling novel Kitchen Confidential – exposed how “in a good restaurant… you could be putting away almost a stick of butter with every meal.”RELATED: The True Meaning Behind Anthony Bourdain’s Most Famous QuoteButter is ubiquitous in French cuisine, from croissants to Chateaubriand steak. If you’re on a keto diet, that’s probably an exciting prospect, but for most health-conscious consumers, it’s a major concern. It’s why butter alternatives have become so popular in the late 20th and 21st centuries: margarine, butter blends, coconut oil… There’s myriad products on the market that purport to be a healthier alternative to butter for both cooking and as an ingredient.Yet one health expert suggests that margarine comes with its own set of problems, and wants to set the record straight on butter.Ryan Carter, a London-based registered nutritionist, relates how the way margarine is made is concerning for people looking to eat a more ‘natural’ diet.
View this post on Instagram
“I still have to explain to the waiter or waitress that butter should not be feared, it is not a villain, it doesn’t cause heart disease,” Carter complains.
“[Butter alternatives are] more likely to be the culprit [towards] poor brain function, cognition [and] memory; and allow for poor… integrity and permeability to cellular membranes around the entire body. The steps [taken] make these fake pseudo fat spreads is repulsive. Bleach, high temperatures, emulsification, deodorisation… concentrated seed oils which are full of plant toxins and extremely oxidised; hydrogenation, changing the structure of the hydrogen bond, creating more deuterium [which creates] problems for your mitochondria function… then add in your synthetic colours [and] ‘vitamins’.”
“This is post is not to say butter is a superfood. It’s impressive, contains [a] surplus of electrons and retinol. Great for your brain, nervous system, vision and hormones. But you don’t need to go OTT with buttered coffee or go throw a block a day.”The science still isn’t settled on whether or not butter is good or bad for you. As the Heart Foundation NZ relates, “despite sensationalist news headlines and one-off pieces of research, the bulk of the evidence still proves that diets lower in saturated fat [i.e. what’s in butter] reduce our risk of heart disease.”What is harder to deny is how much better butter tastes than its alternatives. The old adage ‘butter is better’ exists for a reason. Carter agrees:
“Butter tastes pretty amazing. You really can not deny it. It’s also nose-to-tail eating… making the most of the whole animal, whilst proving and sequester[ing] carbon into the soil when investing in well-raised regenerative sources.”
Like anything, butter is fine in moderation. What’s perhaps more pertinent to the health debate is how much butter you’re using when preparing food. If you use a heaped tablespoon of olive oil to cook an omelette, you’ll be worse off than if you use a teaspoon of butter, for example. Now excuse us – all this talk of butter and French food has got us craving a nice crusty jambon-beurre.

Say what you want about Apple, there’s no denying the company knows how to make a great product, how to market it and how to generate some sweet financial return on it.Each year hypebeasts and Apple Fanbois go into meltdown at the mere prospect of a new iPhone being released. While the global situation forced the Californian tech giant this year to push the launch of the latest iPhone release back by a month to October (instead of sticking to a usual September release), once again, Apple has generated controversy.Upon the launch of the iPhone 12 on the 13th October 2020, Apple released four new iPhones: iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max. Something for everyone. However, the company also announced that it would no longer be including a wall-socket USB charger or a pair of wired EarPods in the box, instead just bundling your shiny new iPhone with a Lightning to USB-C cable. Hypebeast cites the company as saying, “As part of our efforts to reach our environmental goals, iPhone 12 and iPhone Mini do not include a power adapter or EarPods. Please use your current Apple power adapter and headphones, or purchase these accessories separately.”This has irritated many customers. However, there is a method to the madness: Hypebeast continues, “Apple believes that delivering its latest flagship devices without EarPods and power adapter will cut its carbon emissions by more than 2 million metric tons each year, which is equivalent to reducing 450,000 cars on the road each year.”“The decreased size of the packaging increase the number of boxes that can be shipped on pallets by 70 per cent”. So it seems, then, that Apple will be able to fling more iPhones to more customers in a quicker time, resulting in (likely) greater customer satisfaction and more money in the bank in a shorter timeframe. The move is also likely so that Apple can further promote the new MagSafe technology that debuted on the iPhone 12 that will allow for fast and secure wireless charging. So: is their ‘dumbest’ (many are infuriated with the changes) move yet actually their smartest? This question has been furiously debated of late.RELATED: I Switched From iPhone To Pixel For 30 Days; Here’s The Cold Hard Truth About Making The LeapCulling much-loved and much-needed essentials isn’t a new tactic employed by Apple. Cupertino removed USB-A ports and SD card readers from its MacBook lineup, causing customers to purchase additional (often ugly) accessories and dongles so that they could continue to make use of the computers’ full potential. But is it all sunshine and rainbows that Apple is promoting? What if you purchase the iPhone 12 as a newcomer to the Apple brand? You will likely want that charger included. Omitting the EarPods we can sort of understand. They’re not amazing and with the company’s AirPods proving so popular (and wireless headphones as a whole) people likely won’t sneer too much at this. But for new consumers, it means more packaging.Worse: even if you’re a current Apple customer, up until now, iPhone chargers have utilised a USB-A to Lightning cable. You will only have a USB-C wall charger if you have one of the company’s latest MacBooks or iPad models, or secured yourself an iPhone 11 Pro. So, you will have to pay out for a new charger anyway (which means – you guessed it – more plastic packaging than if the charger was included in the first place). Apple does say you can obviously still use the classic USB-A to Lightning cable that has been bundled with the iPhone for several generations, but utilising USB-C will allow for faster charging.Alternatively, you can use wireless charging to power the iPhone (although this will again require purchasing a separate accessory).Oh, and it’s not just the iPhone 12 that does away with these accessories. The full current iPhone lineup which also comprises the iPhone 11, iPhone SE and iPhone XR will also now be packaged without them, and will only come with a USB-C to Lightning cable. This has placed Apple’s claims of sustainability into doubt.Naturally, the Internet made its voice known.

These days, a mask is really a no-brainer. Anything that is this easy and simple, that helps reduce the impact and spread of the global pandemic is an easy win and something we should all be doing to ensure we can get back to life as we knew it. Huckberry’s latest Merino Wool mask may be the best we’ve seen yet.
There are three key issues with the surgeon masks you see people wearing out and about. Firstly, they’re taking away from the resources of hospitals who desperately need PPE for their staff. Secondly, they aren’t the most stylish of face wear. Thirdly, they’re really only a one use item and not changing them regularly reduces their effectiveness and can be bad for your skin. Huckberry’s Merino wool mask is the solution to all of the problems presented by traditional surgeons masks. Since they’re not medical grade, purchasing them isn’t taking away from the supply of hospitals and medical institutions. The Merino and cotton layers however, helps minimise the spread of bacteria and has moisture wicking properties much like surgeon masks. They’re also rather stylish thanks to a fitted shape and they can even be machine washed to ensure they’re clean and can be reused.
Evidently, these Merino face masks are the ideal way for you to stay stylish and safe out there in the current climate and priced at $40 for a four-pack and the fact that you can wash and reuse them, makes them easy on the wallet too.

If you’re someone who has spent years going on dates and forming relationships, only for them to break down quicker than you can say “I love you”, it could well be a case of “it’s not you, it’s me”. But did you know this could be explained from a psychological standpoint?
Attachment theory is a term in psychology, conceived by researchers John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth in the 1950s, which is used to describe the relationship between humans (it was initially used to explain the bond formed between an infant and a primary caregiver, and was applied to adult relationships in the late 1980s by Cindy Hazan and Phillip Shaver), and it could be used to explain why your relationships fizzle out – as well as explain why some relationships demonstrate remarkably strong qualities.
At its most stripped back level, attachment theory is used to explain how newborn babies and young infants seek out an attachment with a primary caregiver that they can turn to in stressful situations. This is most commonly the mother.
From this, the same theory is used to analyse how a person’s younger years affect their adult years and how they approach social situations, including relationships. While the theory isn’t necessarily the underlying factor in the strength (or weakness) of all romantic relationships, it can definitely be used to explain why you’re attracted to certain people, for example, as well as any repeated relationship problems you experience.
Attachment theory suggests there are four attachment categories we can fall into, these being: secure, anxious, avoidant-fearful and avoidant-dismissive. Various psychologists and relationship coaches will explain these in their own ways, but all have similar themes. You can take an online test, such as this one from the book Attached by Amir Levine and Rachel S. F. Heller, to find out your attachment style.
View this post on Instagram
Secure attachment types are just that, secure. They’re the sort of person who rarely displays trust issues, is happy to speak about any problems and is accepting of their own emotions, rather than bottling them up. It’s often claimed that a secure attachment style is ‘the one’ you want to have and should aspire to.
The anxious style refers to people who constantly seek out reassurance within their relationships, may second guess bringing up certain topics (through fear of rejection) and will often find themselves feeling uncomfortable if they’re single. This means they’ll be quick to jump at any opportunity to form a relationship, even if it’s unhealthy or toxic. They’re also quick to complain and stereotype the opposite sex as all being “dicks”, for example.
RELATED: How To Navigate Different Political Views In A Relationship
Fearful-avoidant – or anxious-avoidant – types are rare. This type of person is scared to enter relationships because they fear the possibility of rejection, yet at the same time will seek them out. However, if the relationship starts to become serious and the partner wants to take things to the next level, the fearful-avoidant type will become scared and potentially end the relationship.
Finally, dismissive-avoidant types tend to prefer being alone as they are comfortable without the need for a close emotional relationship. They’ll usually suppress any feelings and will remove themselves from sources of rejection. So, for example, if the dismissive-avoidant type has been in an unsuccessful relationship, they’ll be less inclined to seek out a new one.
Attachment theory and its effect on our adult relationships is an area that, it’s fair to say, many women are well aware of, but the same can’t be said for men. After all, men are too often told to “toughen up” and hide any emotions or feelings they may be having – something that is holding many back from having healthy relationships.

To help understand it further and to find out how it can affect relationships from a male perspective, DMARGE spoke exclusively to Damien Diecke, Head Coach at Sydney’s School of Attraction, to find out more.
Damien agrees that men tend to be blissfully unaware of the relationship attachment styles, “…it’s something that guys are often introduced to by a girlfriend or female friends.”
“But some men are now taking the time to learn about it. It’s a topic that I consider to be so crucial.”
So how do we educate men and make them more aware of the underlying factors playing a role in their romantic relationships?
“As with many kinds of self-improvement, people who really want to work on themselves will be open to the idea of attachment styles.”
“I’ve found that if a man has suffered in past relationships/marriages with recurring patterns of painful behaviour, then they tend to be very receptive to anything that can help explain what’s going on, and potentially provide a road-map to avoiding that pain again in the future.”
“BUT, the truly difficult part isn’t accepting that you have an anxious attachment style, but rather being willing to change a deeply rooted emotional behaviour we developed as children. I find both men and women struggle with this, it’s HARD work.”
So, what if we take a test to place ourselves into one of the four attachment styles, but we think it’s wrong? Is it possible to change that style by working on yourself or should we be more accepting of who we are and not “change who we are for someone else”?
RELATED: Should I Leave My Significant Other? Here Are The Subtle Signs It’s Over
Damien says, “I think that people often get caught up with the ‘you shouldn’t change who you are for other people’ and the ‘just be yourself’ lines of thought.”
“You aren’t changing your attachment style for women, you’re changing it for yourself because you want to experience intimacy without the anxiety of loneliness that might be attached.”
“You’re working on yourself because you want a better life for YOU, not anyone else. The idea of being yourself is (in my opinion) supposed to mean ‘be who you are WITHOUT your baggage’, because the person you are with baggage isn’t really who you truly are at your core – you don’t want to create a relationship based on fear an anxiety.”
But before you even consider changing your attachment style if you don’t happen to fall into the secure category, is it still possible to have healthy and happy relationships being classified as either anxious or avoidant? We also asked Damien if, to a further extent, certain attachment styles will gel better with some than others.
View this post on Instagram
Damien says yes. “ABSOLUTELY! I grew up as an anxiously attached man, and I had to learn to manage that part of who I am, and approach my relationships from a much healthier space.”
“Nobody has a perfect childhood, we all carry some form of baggage – and nobody alive has perfectly eliminated all of their baggage – but healthy and happy relationships are formed when both parties are on a lifelong journey together, to learn to constantly grow as individuals.”
“Relationships frequently fail when one or both parties stop growing on a personal level. After all, it’s our flaws that make us interesting and unique, just be willing to acknowledge your flaws and work on them with the support of a loving partner and you’ll have an amazing relationship!”
RELATED: Why The French Are Better Lovers Than Australians
And as for compatibility between attachment styles, “What you tend to find, very strongly, is that anxiously attached people pretty much always date avoidantly attached people. They flock to each other like moths to a flame.”
“Also, avoidant and anxious are both on the same spectrum, they are just different ways of dealing with insecure attachment emotions.”
“So, what this means is that if two people who are usually avoidant start dating, you almost always see one of them become anxiously attached, while the other remains avoidant. Likewise, if two anxiously attached people date, one of them almost always flips and becomes avoidant in that relationship.”
“It’s a relationship dynamic like parent/child or abuser/victim, you don’t have one without the other since they feed off each other.”
“People who are largely securely attached, generally avoid anyone who is avoidant or anxious, they just rarely end up dating long term because they don’t feel compatible (even if they have no idea what attachment styles are).”
It’s quite possible (and not uncommon) that you haven’t thought or considered what attachment style you fall into. Hopefully now with this newfound information and advice, you will be able to take a more analytical look at your past relationships in order to pursue much stronger ones in the future.
