Chris Rock Is Too Scared To Host The 2023 Academy Awards
Chris Rock Is Too Scared To Host The 2023 Academy Awards

Chris Rock was reportedly offered to host next year’s Academy Awards ceremony but the comedian refused in light of the ‘slapping incident’ that occurred between him and Will Smith at this year’s ceremony.

You’ll likely remember that back in March of this year, comedian and actor Chris Rock presented an award at the annual Academy Awards ceremony.

Of course, this tidbit of information is probably stored in your memory because while he was presenting, Will Smith infamously stormed the stage and slapped him in the face after making a joke at Jada Pinkett Smith’s expense.

Since the incident, Smith has swiftly faced backlash despite apologising numerous times, almost every celebrity on the planet has given their opinion on the subject (including Ricky Gervais) and Rock has embarked on a World Tour.

And according to AZ Central, at Rock’s most recent show, which took place on Sunday in Phoenix, Arizona, he revealed that he’d been asked – but refused – to host next year’s Academy Awards.

Rock also said the now infamous Oscars slap did hurt. Image Credit: Getty Images

Rock likened the idea of him hosting the 2023 Academy Awards to returning to the scene of a crime; he even joked that asking him to return to the Oscars next year would be like asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant” (for context, Brown Simpson – the ex-wife of O.J. Simpson – dined at an Italian restaurant shortly before she was murdered in 1994).

During his routine, Rock also said that when Smith slapped him it hurt and made reference to Smith playing Muhammad Ali in the 2001 film, Ali.

“He’s bigger than me. The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith.”

Chris Rock

Rock isn’t the only one not returning to the Academy Awards next year. After the slapping incident first occurred, Smith was banned from attending future Academy Awards ceremonies – or any other Academy events – for the next ten years.

We can’t help but wonder whether the 2023 Oscars will be anywhere near as memorable as this year’s ceremony if both Rock and Smith aren’t attending… Only time will tell.

Hasbulla Goes On A Pint-Sized Rampage In Sydney

Hasbulla Magomedov is currently in Australia for a short but sweet meet and greet tour that has him appearing in Sydney and Melbourne. But it appears the pint-sized social media star is using his limited time Down Under to cause as much mayhem as possible.

Case in point, a video uploaded to Instagram by the offical @NSWBlues account, that shows Hasbulla meeting up with the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL squad and receiving a shirt from captain, Cam Murray. But just how did Hasbulla say thank you? With a right-hander to Murray’s face.

WATCH: Hasbulla Gives South Sydney Rabbitohs Captain Cam Murray A Swift Right-Hand Jab

The video has received plenty of comments. Some still don’t quite understand who Hasbulla is or why he’s famous, but others claim it to be “so cute,” while others say “personally I wouldn’t take that.”

There’s also, “Surprised no one has just drop kicked him yet.”

Hasbulla is known for his hot and fiery nature, and he’s made it very clear across social media that he’s willing to fight anyone who dare challenge or disrespect him. He’s already given Los Angeles Lakers NBA star Shaquille O’Neal what for – the pair are both represented by The Hour Group and so are both currently in Australia for promotional activities – with Hasbulla giving Shaq an equally devastating right-hander whilst on a boat.

Whilst staying in Sydney, Hasbulla has also been pictured getting behind the wheel of a McLaren 720S (we presume he didn’t actually drive it, owing to the fact he can’t quite reach the pedals), whilst wearing a Rolex. Perhaps his estimated $100,000 net worth needs to be increased?

Hasbulla is making his final appearance in Sydney today, Tuesday 30th August. We await to see what kind of mayhem he causes in Melbourne on Wednesday 31st August and Thursday 1st September.

Players That Have Signed With LIV Golf Tour
Players That Have Signed With LIV Golf Tour

The LIV Golf Invitational Series, otherwise known as the LIV Golf League, is a new golf tour that is headed up by former Australian golfer Greg Norman, with funding coming from the Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.

Ever since LIV Golf was announced, it has been met with criticism and backlash due to its source of funding and Saudi Arabia’s history of human rights violations. However, that hasn’t stopped some of the world’s best golf players from defecting from the well-established PGA Tour (to which LIV Golf is now a rival) in return for some seriously large paycheques.

The PGA Tour itself has been particularly direct in its stance on the LIV Golf tour, stating that any PGA players, both current and future, who choose to join LIV Golf, will be suspended from playing PGA Tour events.

Despite this, some of the world’s most well-known golfing stars have already signed contracts with LIV Golf, which have already seen them earn more money just for joining than they’ve earned throughout their entire PGA Tour career. American golfer John Daly – who hoped to join LIV Golf himself but was turned down by Greg Norman – has said he believes the prize money on offer to be completely fair and justified.

What is the LIV Golf Tournament?

The LIV Golf League has been setup as an alternative to the PGA Tour, but presents itself in a different format. By this, we mean LIV Golf offers a more arena-style of sporting event, since it puts players into various teams of four, each with a captain.

And, because of its immense financial backing, LIV Golf offers golfers the chance to earn some serious money, even if they don’t win. While prize money purses for winners can be between $20 – $25 million, players on the LIV Golf tour can also earn money just for their appearance. There is also an additional $5 million for the winning team, to be split between its members.

What does LIV stand for?

Image: Golf Digest

LIV Golf might seem like an unusual name. After all, PGA makes perfect sense (Professional Golders’ Association) but you might not know where the name LIV came from.

It’s actually pretty simple. LIV is a reference to the Roman numeral for 54 (L – 50, I – 1, V – 5. IV – 1 before 5 = 4). 54 is the score a golfer would achieve if every hole on a par-72 course were birdied (one stroke under par) and it is also the number of holes that will be played at LIV Golf events.

When did LIV Golf start?

Initial discussions for LIV Golf began in 2019 and at the time, it was going to be known as the Premier Golf League. Following discussions with investors from Saudi Arabia, the Premier Golf League changed its name to LIV Golf Investments and officially launched in October 2021.

The first season of LIV teed off in 2022, consisting of eight 54-hole tournaments and featuring 48 players. Players are split into 12, four-man teams and the field of players can differ from tournament to tournament.

LIV Golf format

Image: @livgolfinv

LIV Golf players compete in events in teams of four, with there being 12 teams in total. Players compete as individuals and as a team for both points and prize money. LIV Golf select team captains before each event and these captains get to choose with other LIV Golf players they want on their team.

At the end of each LIV Golf event, the player with the lowest 54-hole stroke play total is the individual winner. The winning team is decided by taking the best two stroke play scores from the first two round, and the best three from the third and final round. Whichever team ends up with this figure being the lowest, wins.

Teams

The same team names are used throughout the LIV Golf season, but each week they can be populated by different players and captains. The 12 LIV Golf teams are:

  • Niblicks GC
  • Fireballs GC
  • HY Flyers GC
  • Punch GC
  • Smash GC
  • Cleeks GC
  • 4 Aces GC
  • Torque GC
  • Majesticks GC
  • Crushers GC
  • Stinger GC
  • Iron Heads GC

LIV Golf prize money

As previously mentioned, one of the appealing aspects of LIV Golf (and one of the main reasons behind players defecting from the PGA Tour to join the new league) is the incredible amount of prize money on offer.

The total prize money purse across the eight events in the season stands at a huge US$255 million. For each team event there is US$25 million on offer. $20 million of this prize purse is shared between the players taking part in an event, and around $4 million of it is presented to the winner.

When the Team Championship is played, which is a final event that LIV Golf says will be a seeded “four-day, four-round, match play knock-out,” to be held at the Trump National Doral Miami in October 2022, there is US$50 million on offer as part of the prize money purse.

$16 million of this will be presented to the winning team for them to share. But, even the team that finishes last will still walk away with $1 million.

LIV Golf vs PGA Tour

While many see LIV Golf as a direct rival to the PGA Tour, former golfer and now CEO of the league, Greg Norman, has come out and said it wasn’t devised to directly compete with the PGA Tour.

He says the schedule of the tournament was carefully thought out so that it wouldn’t compete with major PGA Tour events or any other international team events.

Despite this, the PGA Tour still saw it (and still does) as a direct competitor and so took the drastic decision to announce any PGA Tour player who defected to the series, would be sanctioned.

The official statement said, “Members who violate the tournament regulations are subject to disciplinary action,”

“As communicated to our entire membership on 10 May, PGA Tour members have not been authorised to participate in the Saudi Golf League’s London event, under PGA Tour tournament regulations.”

On 9 June 2022, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan took this one step further by suspending any players who took part in the new series, saying (as per ESPN), “These players have made their choice for their own financial-based reasons,”

“But they can’t demand the same PGA TOUR membership benefits, considerations, opportunities and platform as you. That expectation disrespects you, our fans and our partners. You have made a different choice, which is to abide by the Tournament Regulations you agreed to when you accomplished the dream of earning a PGA TOUR card and — more importantly — to compete as part of the preeminent organisation in the world of professional golf.”

The PGA Tour ultimately said that any players who joined LIV Golf would no longer be allowed to compete in PGA Tour events.

LIV Golf responded to these actions by saying it, “deepens the divide between the Tour and its members.”

“It’s troubling that the Tour, an organization dedicated to creating opportunities for golfers to play the game, is the entity blocking golfers from playing,”

“This certainly is not the last word on this topic. The era of free agency is beginning as we are proud to have a full field of players joining us in London, and beyond.”

Phil Mickelson was one of the earliest players to defect to the LIV Golf League, who signed a contract worth a reported US$200 million. Phil reportedly joined LIV Golf at the beginning of 2022, with initial murmurs taking place in February.

Mickelson had, before this, criticised the PGA Tour but was also critical of Saudi Arabia, telling biographer Alan Shipnuck, Saudi Arabians were, “scary motherfuckers to be involved with.”

And, even after he criticised the country’s human rights record, Phil Mickelson still decided to join LIV Golf and played the first event in London in June 2022. On his decision, Mickelson told reports,

“I understand that many people have very strong opinions and many disagree with my decision, and I can empathize with that, but at this time, this is an opportunity that gives me a chance to have the most balance in my life going forward and I think this is going to do a lot of good for the game.”

LIV Golf controversy

As already mentioned in this article, the LIV Golf tournament has been met with serious criticism. The majority of this criticism is aimed at the fact it is financed by the Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia, but also because it is a direct rival to the long-established and much-loved PGA Tour.

Many protestors claim that LIV Golf is a prime example of ‘sportswashing,’ saying that the glitz, the glamour and the huge money on offer for players is all a ploy by Saudi Arabia’s political strategy to improve its global image.

At the centre of Saudi Arabia’s negative image is its human rights violations and the Government’s involvement – along with Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman – in the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist who was often critical of his country’s government.

It has also been suggested the Saudi family were involved in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York.

Will Cameron Smith join LIV Golf?

Update 30th August 2022

Cameron Smith has now announced his decision to join LIV Golf in a deal worth AU$140 million. Smith told reporters that the money on offer did play a part in his decision making, but said the biggest influence in making his decision was that, “[LIV’s] schedule is really appealing. I’ll be able to spend more time at home in Australia and maybe have an event down there, as well. I haven’t been able to do that, and to get that part of my life back was really appealing.”

Previous information as of 30th August 2022

There has been a great deal of speculation surrounding Australian golfer Cameron Smith and whether he will defect to the LIV Golf tour too. Following his spectacular win at The Open in July 2022, Smith was asked by reporters if he was planning to join Greg Norman’s LIV Golf tour. At the time, Smith said, “I just won the British Open and you’re asking about that? I think that’s pretty, not that good.”

Speculation has intensified since, as the The Telegraph reported, on the 9th of August, that Smith has now signed a US$100 million/AU$140 million contract to join LIV Golf. The UK publication added Cameron Smith will play his first LIV Golf event in Boston.

Cameron Smith was once again asked, during the FedEx Cup playoffs, about him moving to LIV Golf. He told reporters, “no comment,” and added, “You know, my goal here is to win the FedEx Cup playoffs. That’s all I’m here for,”

“If there’s something I need to say regarding the PGA Tour or LIV, it’ll come from Cameron Smith, not Cameron Percy,” referencing the fact Australian golfer Cameron Percy told reporters that Smith had indeed joined LIV.

How to watch LIV Golf?

LIV Golf tournament events can be watched online at LIV Golf’s official website, or its YouTube and Facebook channels.

$220 Million Superyacht With Onboard Tennis Court Spotted In Holland

The Aviva, Joseph C.Lewis’ superyacht, has been spotted in Vlissingen (a municipality in The Netherlands), reportedly on its way to Hamburg. The incredible feat of engineering is built around a tennis court, a cinema, a spectacular main salon and huge guest rooms.

Billionaire football club owner Joe Lewis’ superyacht Aviva has been spotted in The Netherlands (after being seen three weeks ago in Malaga). Lewis reportedly spends most of his time onboard, living a quiet life in the Bahamas. Lewis is the majority owner of English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur, and is a British businessman and investor. According to the Sunday Times Rich List in 2021, Lewis has a net worth of 4.33 billion pounds ( AU$7.36 billion).

He may keep his life quite low profile on land, but when it came to building his boat he went all out, constructing it around a tennis/squash court (some people even think it looks more like a padel court) as well as including such luxuries as a cinema, a truly eye watering (in a good way) main salon and massive rooms for friends and family.

Joe Rogan Has More In Common With Vegans Than You Think
Joe Rogan Has More In Common With Vegans Than You Think

Joe Rogan is not vegan. The notorious podcast host has made his love for meat clear on several occasions, even adopting the carnivore diet for a period of time. But even though he does tuck into animal-based food, he does still possess qualities that we think even vegans can appreciate.

Hear us out. Taking to Instagram recently, Joe Rogan shared an image of some elk meat he cooked to perfection. No far, so not vegan. But, Joe said in the caption of his image that he “loves knowing exactly where the meat in my freezer came from.”

While we wouldn’t expect him to receive any words of encouragement for those who live a plant-based lifestyle, the fact Joe does still put effort into knowing where his meat and food comes from is a quality that should be admired.

Chef’s Pencil highlights the differences between organic and non-organic meat, stating that for meat to be classified as organic, it needs to ensure “animals are raised in living conditions accommodating their natural behaviours (such as the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones.”

To be organic also means the animal will live a more fruitful life, “On an organic farm, cows are fed at least 60% fresh grass and are reared outdoors. This is not only the right way to raise animals but also ensures a higher quality of meat,” Chef’s Pencil adds.

So, while yes, Joe is still eating an animal, he feels more comfortable knowing that animal was treated far better than those reared on large-scale farms (it’s also possible he hunted it, and it had a fully wild life).

It’s not the first time he’s indicated he’s particular about the food he puts in his body. A couple of years ago, Joe shared an image of some eggs sizzling in a pan, all of which were claimed to be free-range. But the colour of the yolk was darker on some than others, and it’s the darker yolks that indicate the egg is truly organic and truly free-range.

While that post did receive some comments from people in countries such as Scotland and New Zealand, claiming all their eggs always have orange yolks, it’s worth mentioning that egg producers also have far fewer people to supply in those smaller countries. In the US, where demand for eggs is going to far higher, farmers are going to want to house as many hens as they can, so the amount of actual “free-range” time they get won’t be the same.

While we’re still pretty sure vegans won’t suddenly become lifelong Joe Rogan fans after seeing this, Joe has also previously said he believes you can indeed be 100% healthy living a vegan lifestyle. He’s not against it per se, he’s just decided it isn’t for him.

He’s expressed on numerous occasions that he eats meat for its nutritional value. Along with the elk meat in the image he shared recently, Joe has also shared images of a home cooked meal using elk liver. As expected, the post received its fair share of criticism from the vegan contingent, but Joe defended his corner by saying, “Liver is a weird thing because it’s not something that most people enjoy, but it’s one of the most nutrient rich foods on the planet.”

Indeed, liver – and red meat in particular – is one of the most nutritious foods around and contain the essential nutrients we need, as humans, to survive and live healthy lifestyles. You can’t find the same nutrients in plant-based foods and so need to turn to supplements to increase your intake.

It was with this clashing of heads in mind that nutritionist Ryan Carter devised the nutrivore diet, which essentially sees you listening to your body and consuming a balanced mixture of animal-based and plant-based foods. We completely appreciate the ethical reasons behind going vegan, but when it comes at the sacrifice of essential nutrients, we’d argue it can still be wise to include some meat in your diet, just in moderation.

Inside The Most Exclusive Airport Lounge In Asia

Frequent first-class traveller Immanuel Debeer has given his followers a sneak peek at one of the most price-prohibitive lounges in Asia: “The Private Room.” Regardless of your status, you can’t enter this lounge, which is located in Changi airport, unless you have flown there in First Class…

Points hacker Immanuel Debeer has taken to Instagram to show his followers what it looks like inside Krisflyer’s The Private Room in Singapore. This came after a quick stay in London, when Immanuel took the the ‘gram with the following message: “Welcome to London Heathrow. Today we are flying Singapore Airlines first class on the 777 from London to Singapore then Singapore to Perth in business.”

Immanuel said there was a “nice little lounge at T2” at Heathrow. But what was to come on his stopover in Singapore put that – and many other lounges around the world, we’d wager – to shame. After showing followers his First Class breakfast (Pad Thai), snacks (caviar) and the four First Class seats on the Singapore Airlines 777 he was flying, Immanuel then got down to business, providing a sneak peek at The Private Room that First Class arrivals get to experience in Singapore when transiting.

“As I arrived in first, I got an invitation to The Private Room. It only opened a few months ago and it’s beautiful,” Immanuel said.

WATCH: Inside The Private Room, One Of The Most Exclusive Lounges In The World

“Access rules are like this,” Immanuel said. “No status will get you in, you need to be travelling with Singapore Airlines in First Class, or you need to have arrived with Singapore [Airlines] in First Class and have a connecting flight with Singapore Airlines in any class (i.e. London to Singapore in First and Singapore to Perth in Business).”

Immanuel’s video showed a classy lounge, a nice bar, an incredible selection of wines and fancy-looking bathrooms.

The Private Room is open from 0530 to 0230 hours, has a selection of warm food and light snacks, a Barista and bartender service, a rest area, a quiet room, a play room, wheelchair accessible restrooms, showers, a baby care room, wireless internet and TV.

The Private Room and Singapore Airlines’ new First Class Lounge are located at Changi Airport on the upper level of Changi T3. The Private Room’s dining room seats 28 people, and has both long banquette-style tables, and smaller tables for groups of two or four.

The wide ranging à la carte menu features meals like wagyu burgers and satays (and of course lobster laksa, which Immanuel ordered for breakfast), and there is more champagne than you could ever drink.

Happy dreaming.

Daniel Radcliffe Shakes Off Harry Potter Past With Weird New Role
Daniel Radcliffe Shakes Off Harry Potter Past With Weird New Role

The first trailer for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story has dropped and it looks like Daniel Radcliffe will finally break free from his Harry Potter shackles…

For some child actors, no matter what they do they can’t seem to escape the role that first made them famous.

Take Daniel Radcliffe as an example; the actor reached global fame at just eleven years old for playing Harry Potter in the beloved franchise based on the best-selling book series of the same name.

Radcliffe hasn’t played Harry Potter since 2011 and has seriously branched out by playing a wild variety of different characters over the years – including a troubled man obsessed with horses (Equus), a corpse (Swiss Army Man), a bubbly, singing window washer (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) and a timid angel (Miracle Workers).

And yet, most people still think of Radcliffe as “the boy who lived”. But all that is about to change; Radcliffe is set to star in the upcoming film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story – a satirical biopic based on Grammy-winner ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic’s rise to fame.

WATCH: The official trailer for ‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’…

The first trailer for the film has just dropped and it looks like Radcliffe has taken a serious dose of Polyjuice Potion to transform into Yankovic. Complete with a curly mullet, a thick moustache and a Californian accent, Radcliffe may shake off his Harry Potter past once and for all.

Yankovic himself agrees; the parody singer said in a statement earlier this year, “I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story also stars Evan Rachel Wood, of Westworld fame, as pop icon Madonna and Rainn Wilson, best known for playing Dwight in The Office, as Yankovic’s mentor.

The film is set to be released on the 4th of November on The Roku Channel and in the meantime, you can watch the trailer for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story above. It’s wonderfully weird…

This $348,000 Jacob & Co. Watch Is A Crypto Millionaire’s Wet Dream
This $348,000 Jacob & Co. Watch Is A Crypto Millionaire’s Wet Dream

Jacob & Co. are known for making outlandish watches… But this one might be their most over-the-top yet.

The story of Jacob & Co. is one that continues to delight and astound luxury aficionados. Soviet immigrant Jacob Arabo went operating a small booth in New York City’s Diamond District to becoming one of the most famous jewellers on the planet after legendary rapper The Notorious B.I.G. discovered him and introduced him to his famous friends.

For a long period in the late 90s/early 00s, all the biggest hip-hop artists in America were either wearing or rapping about Jacob: 50 Cent, Diddy, Jay-Z, Kanye West… In recent years, Arabo has become more famous for his watches, which are made in Switzerland and typically feature not only some genuinely innovative complications but also an absurd amount of bling… As well as pop culture nods most watchmakers wouldn’t dare feature on a piece of haute horlogerie.

Case in point: the new Jacob & Co. Astronomia Solar Bitcoin, a crypto-themed take on the brand’s popular Astronomia model, which was just unveiled at Geneva Watch Days 2022. They describe it as “a symbolic and horological tribute to the world of cryptocurrency” and “a nod to the success of those who have mastered Bitcoin.”

Make crypto an even bigger part of your personality with this watch!

Weighing in at 44mm wide and 17mm thick, the Astronomia Solar Bitcoin features a greenhouse-like titanium DLC case that houses a unique multi-pronged rotating armature, upon which the actual watch face, the watch’s double-axis tourbillon movement, a magnesium globe of the earth, a 288-facet orange citrine and a 1ct white diamond are suspended.

A miniature rendition of the Bitcoin sign is also mounted to the rotating structure, as well as a little rocket – referencing the ‘to the moon’ catch-cry crypto bros love so much. The watch face is shaped like a computer fan, “a nod to the ones found in Bitcoin mining farms’ servers,” Jacob & Co. explains. Finally, the dial features a circuit board graphic and Bitcoin-related terminology.

While the watch has a fixed price of US$348,000 (for regulatory purposes), Jacob & Co. will be selling all 25 examples of this watch in cryptocurrencies only. Naturally, you can (and probably should) buy it with Bitcoin, but you can also use Ethereum, Litecoin or even Dogecoin for maximum meme value.

Naturally, this watch is a crypto millionaire’s wet dream; the ultimate statement piece for a cashed-up degenerate. It’s incredibly impressive from a technical level, but the theming is really what makes this watch so outrageous.

This isn’t the first time a watchmaker has used crypto as a theme for a watch. Franck Muller, another high-end watch brand that’s a favourite of celebrities like Cristiano Ronaldo (who also owns a few Jacob & Co. pieces too), released the Vanguard Encrypto last year, “the world’s first functional Bitcoin watch” with a QR code on the dial that links to a crypto wallet.
