Australian Ferrari Owner Recklessly Flouts Speed Limits, Loses Car & License
Australian Ferrari Owner Recklessly Flouts Speed Limits, Loses Car & License

Every red-blooded revhead has dreamt of taking an exotic car out on the open road and absolutely caning it. One Australian Ferrari owner, however, just turned his dreams into reality – and paid one hell of a price for his hedonism.

A 42-year-old Sydney man has been charged by NSW Police after he was allegedly caught travelling at more than 200km/h in an unregistered Ferrari Portofino in The Hume region last Friday. The Hume Highway Patrol allegedly clocked him doing 204km/h in a 110km sign-posted area on the Hume Highway near Goulburn just after 7am.

Police chased the driver down and issued him with a Court Attendance Notice for driving a vehicle recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, exceeding the speed limit by over 45kph, and using an unregistered vehicle, with the punter due to face Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 29th June.

His NSW driver’s licence has been suspended and his vehicle confiscated for three months, unsurprisingly. We’re just glad no one ended up wrapping their car around a tree, like this poor bloke on the Gold Coast did with his Ferrari F40.

First released in 2017, the Portofino is a V8-powered hardtop convertible that succeeded the Italian marque’s previous V8 grand tourer, the California T.

Standard models make 441kW, but the hotter Portofino M (M for Modificata or Modified) makes 456kW. Ferrari Australia currently only offer the Portofino M for sale: considering this car was unregistered with no plates, we reckon it’s a recently-purchased Portofino M.

We don’t condone speeding at all, but at least our Ferrari driver had the courtesy to do it in the early hours of the morning as well as outside of Sydney… Although we doubt Goulburn locals would take kindly to some city slicker caning it down their roads.

204km/h is by no means the fastest someone’s gone on NSW roads, however. The driver of a Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class was caught doing 244km/h in an 80 zone back in 2020. More on that here.

The fastest anyone’s gone down the Hume was journalist Mel Nichols who, back in 1971 rocketed a Ford XY Falcon GTHO Phase III at well over 140mph (225km/h), famously captured by photographer Uwe Kuessner.

Another journo, freelancer Rod Easdown, holds the record for the fastest speeding ticket issued in Australia to a Ferrari driver after he was caught going 231km/h in a Ferrari California near Perth back in 2009. The stunt saw him lose his licence and his job; cop more than $2,000 in fines and court costs, and got him the label “the oldest hoon in Australia”. Ooft.

The Top Gun 2 Actors With The Guts To Become Fighter Pilots
The Top Gun 2 Actors With The Guts To Become Fighter Pilots

As it turns out, there are a few actors – not just Tom Cruise – who handled G-forces and the intense training really well while filming Top Gun: Maverick.

While Tom Cruise – best known for his role as the fighter pilot Maverick in Top Gun and now the sequel, Top Gun: Maverick – has performed many of his own death-defying stunts over the years during his long and successful career, it turns out that there are two other Top Gun actors who would make better fighter pilots.

Kevin LaRosa Jr., the aerial coordinator and lead camera pilot for Top Gun: Maverick revealed during an interview with The Independent that Monica Barbaro, who plays Lieutenant Natasha ‘Phoenix’ Trace in the Top Gun sequel, reined supreme when it came to the rigorous training the Top Gun: Maverick actors underwent.

The training included being rotated underwater in an ejection seat and while LaRosa Jr. said, “It’s not something you look forward to doing,” he declared that “Monica just did incredible; really good with G-forces.”

The other actor that impressed LaRosa Jr. was Glen Powell, who plays Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick. Apparently, Powell was very good at “handling his business” – business being code for vomit.

Glen Powell, who plays Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick, pushed through filming even after vomiting due to extreme G-forces. Image: Paramount Pictures

Obviously, the cast was exposed to severe G-forces and therefore, many actors threw up during filming. But LaRosa Jr. said,

“Most people when they get air sick, you’re kind of done. You’re out for the count. Glen would be in the back seat of an F-18, dogfighting and would feel it. He would take care of his business and then he’d be like, ‘Okay, let’s go!’ and he’d be right back.”

Kevin LaRosa Jr.

Of course, LaRosa Jr. also praised Cruise and said the 59-year-old has an “iron stomach” and is “sharp and focused… it really makes you want to get on your A-game.”

Perhaps if Cruise, Barbaro or Powell ever want to retire from acting they could go into the fighter pilot game. They’ve all certainly got the stomachs for it.

Jared Leto Continues To Lose Millions Of Dollars For Sony
Jared Leto Continues To Lose Millions Of Dollars For Sony

Back in April, Sony released the film Morbius which was based on the Marvel comics of the same name. Sadly, the film was not particularly good.

What has been good are the millions of memes the film has generated. The most enduring one has been the phrase “it’s morbin’ time”. Let’s be clear, it’s not something that’s ever actually uttered in Morbius… But a Tweet posted shortly after Morbius’ release joking that it did has gone absolutely viral.

Since then, Morbius and “morbin’ time” have continuously trended on Twitter and many, many memes featuring the phrase have been made. However, the popularity of the Tweet – which is a prime example of a ‘shitpost’ – and the memes it spawned were clearly misinterpreted by Sony.

Anyone familiar with meme and Twitter culture could tell you that “it’s morbin’ time” is popular because it’s hilarious and it pokes fun at a film that was bad. But Sony obviously thought that people were continuously posting about “morbin’” and Morbius because they liked the film…

This was made evident when the production company decided to re-release Morbius into American cinemas over the weekend. Unsurprisingly though, Morbius flopped. Again.

According to Forbes, Morbius only earned $85,000 on Friday – which is not a good result, especially considering it would have cost Sony millions just to put Morbius back into theatres.

Furthermore, Jared Leto, who stars in Morbius as the titular character, tried to get in on the morbin’ fun and posted to his Twitter a video of him reading a script that’s titled, “Morbius 2: It’s Morbin’ Time” – to which many users replied, “and now the joke is dead”.

One user even replied, “[we’re] not laughing with you Jared.” Ouch.

The old adage ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ doesn’t really apply here as Leto couldn’t join in on the “it’s morbin’ time” joke and Morbius failed to bring in a decent amount of money during its re-release… Perhaps Sony and Leto should just let it go?

Rafael Nadal’s Classy Act After French Open Win Is Why He’s The GOAT
Rafael Nadal’s Classy Act After French Open Win Is Why He’s The GOAT

Rafael Nadal, simply put, is the best men’s tennis player of all time. His latest win at the 2022 French Open only reaffirms his greatness – as does the classy way he handled his victory.

The Spanish champ beat Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final of Roland-Garros in straight sets, securing his 22nd Grand Slam men’s singles title (the most in history) and a record 14th French Open title. Nadal is often called ‘The King of Clay’ and has always been very dominant at Roland-Garros, so this wasn’t a huge surprise.

But it was heartwarming to see how gracious in victory Nadal was with Ruud. Immediately after the winning point, Nadal gave Ruud a warm embrace and spoke glowingly of the 23-year-old Norwegian player during his victory speech.

“Casper, it’s a real pleasure to play with you a final here in Roland Garros. You are great. I want to congratulate you for an amazing career you are having. Especially these two weeks, I think it is a very important step forward. I am very, very happy for you and your family and your team. I wish you all the very best for the future.”

This would have meant the world to Ruud, who has long called Nadal his idol. For his part, Ruud was also very gracious in defeat. Indeed, he mostly just looked rapt to be playing a final against Nadal.

Like his idol Nadal, Ruud has cultivated a relationship among his fellow players as being a kind, respectful yet impressive player. Guess he’s not so Ruud after all.

For example, Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime (who made it to the 4th round of the French Open before going down against Nadal himself) has said “Casper is a great person. He’s always handled himself with a lot of respect and integrity. As a player, he’s fierce and built a style of play that’s very consistent. He deserves where he is now. I have a ton of respect for the work he’s done,” Tennis.com shares.

Nadal and Ruud’s manner lies in stark contrast with some of the behaviour we’ve seen from Australian tennis players lately. Whilst the rest of the world was focused on France, Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic got into a nasty spat online, with Tomic even trying to goad Kyrgios into a boxing match. More on that story here.

David & Victoria Beckham Go Head-To-Head In Fitness Challenge
David & Victoria Beckham Go Head-To-Head In Fitness Challenge

David Beckham recently challenged his wife Victoria to a reaction training game…whilst planking, to see who has the best mental and physical strength.

It’s no secret that David Beckham remains an incredibly fit man, even as he approaches his 50th birthday (just take a look at his very own F45 workout he developed for the popular fitness chain). But his latest bout of training not only tests his physical strength but also his mental strength and the strength of his relationship with his wife Victoria, all in one fell swoop.

Taking to Instagram, David and his wife Victoria can be seen holding a plank with four buttons on the floor between them. These buttons are reaction training buttons – the kind you would normally see installed into a wall and often used by Formula 1 drivers – and the task at hand is to press the button that lights up in your colour. In this case, David takes the red buttons and Victoria, the blue. David’s personal trainer, Bobby Rich, oversees the proceedings whilst daughter, Harper Seven, is on video recording duties.

The husband and wife duo battle against each other for a solid 30 seconds before a winner is declared and, considering he would’ve spent a greater deal of his career with his reaction timing on point, David is declared victorious, with the final score being 61 to David and 48 to Victoria.

Of course, to get a high score during a regular reaction training test is not exactly a walk in the park, but to add a plank into the mix only serves to increase the difficulty. By having to use a hand to press the buttons, David and Victoria are effectively performing plank tap outs.

A plank tap out is a variation of a regular plank that engages your core muscles far greater, because when you remove a hand from the floor, your core needs to be able to keep your body stable. It also places greater stress on the shoulder of whichever arm is still touching the ground, so helps to increase shoulder strength at the same time.

So, while David may have proven his mental and physical strength bests that of his wife, let’s just hope she takes losing with dignity.

What Americans Find Bizarre About Australia
What Americans Find Bizarre About Australia

While they may have a lot in common, American and Australia also have a lot of differences. Here’s what Americans find truly bizarre about the Land Down Under…

Australia may be known worldwide for sights like the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, the Great Barrier Reef and the Hemsworth brothers, but Australia is also home to some weird customs and traditions that Americans find simply bizarre.

In fact, many Yanks chimed in after a Reddit thread posed the question, “what do you think is weird about Australia and Australians?”.

One American who currently plans to move to Australia started by saying, “[I] love love love your country,” but then continued to list many things she finds odd about the land down under.

“The archaic speeds of your internet system… The shortening of so many words; brekkie for breakfast, as an example… The fact that everything is expensive… WTF METRIC SYSTEM,”

Reddit user MorbidlyMacabre

One Reddit user had the gall to insult the national treasure that is fairy bread: “Fairy bread. Why?”

Of course, the Aussies instantly replied to this particular comment with remarks like, “Um because it’s f**king amazing? Have you had it?”, “Because it’s legendary, that’s why,” and “Listen mate, you can mock my country, my flag, my accent and my people but don’t you dare talk s**t about fairy bread.”

Another American confessed that the lack of shirts and shoes worn by Aussies while at shopping centres was weird – but “freeing”.

“As an American living in Aus, it’s really strange seeing people in the shopping centres with no shirts or shoes. Though I do find it freeing doing it myself.”

Reddit user ptolemy11

And finally, Reddit user ThereW0LF simply gave us this awesome The Simpsons reference.

“I don’t know much about Australia. I just know I have played knifey-spooney before.”

LeBron James Surprises Watch Fans With Very Unique Audemars Piguet
LeBron James Surprises Watch Fans With Very Unique Audemars Piguet

LeBron James isn’t just the highest-paid basketball player in the NBA, but one of the highest-paid athletes of all time. Naturally, he has a pretty cool watch collection – but this watch is particularly cool, if only because it’s not the thing we’d expect him to wear.

From multiple Richard Milles to colourful Rolexes and even a Black Panther Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the man certainly isn’t short on wristwatches. Indeed, ‘King James’ is a particularly devoted Audemars Piguet customer, with the big man owning literally dozens of watches from the high-end brand.

Most of his watches – APs or otherwise – tend to be on the sportier, more aggressively styled spectrum of watch design. That’s why we were so surprised to see the Los Angeles Lakers player flaunting an Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Chronometer (ref. 26153OR.OO.D088CR.01) on his Instagram Story last night.

This now-discontinued piece, which was last in the brand’s catalogue in 2017, is a rather interesting beast. At 46mm in diameter and crafted from 18ct rose gold, it’s a fairly chunky piece of wrist candy – but also a rather impressive one, from a horological standpoint.

Its main party trick is that it has two balance springs, a real feat of watchmaking that ultimately makes the watch more shock-resistant and accurate. Visually impressive, a small dial at 12 o’clock is flanked by two prominent mainstream barrels, with a small seconds display at 6 o’clock and a differential power reserve indicator at 7 o’clock, directly engraved onto the main plate of the movement. Real watch nerd stuff.

LeBron’s watch might be impressive, but that’s more than we can say for the Lakers’ 2021-22 season. Despite James recording his best points per game average since 2005–06 as well as a number of scoring and age-related records during the season, the normally impressive team had a rather rubbish run, finishing the season 11th – the team’s worst record since 2015–16.

‘Wealth Can Make People Much More Susceptible To Mental Health Issues’
‘Wealth Can Make People Much More Susceptible To Mental Health Issues’

According to the old saying, money simply can’t buy happiness. Although, wouldn’t you rather cry in a Rolls-Royce than laugh on a bicycle? Kind of a no-brainer.

However, according to Clay Cockrell – a psychotherapist to the extremely wealthy who penned an op-ed for The Guardian – the super-rich are miserable.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve rolled your eyes and have little to no sympathy for billionaires who are feeling unhappy; surely their struggles don’t compare to those of the impoverished?

Well, Cockrell addresses us specifically for a moment:

“There is a perception that money can immunise you against mental-health problems when actually, I believe that wealth can make you – and the people closest to you – much more susceptible to them.”

Clay Cockrell

He then goes on to explain what is making the wealthy elites so damn depressed. Not being able to trust anyone is a big cause. Cockrell poses the questions, “What would it be like if you couldn’t trust those close to you? Or if you looked at any new person in your life with deep suspicion?” and then reveals this is a challenge that the super-rich regularly struggle with.

Cockrell says Succession is a pretty accurate representation of what the children of extremely wealthy people are like. Image Credit: Warner Bros. Television Distribution

Cockrell also details that once billionaires reach a certain level of success, they obviously step back from their business but then become desolate because they no longer have a purpose in life. Cockrell says his “clients are often bored with life” because of “a lack of meaning and ambition”.

He then discusses the children of the wealthy, who are incredibly spoilt by their rich parents, tend to suffer from insecurity and low-self esteem issues.

“An over-indulged child develops into an entitled adult who has low self-confidence, low self-esteem, and a complete lack of grit.”

Clay Cockrell

Cockrell also explores that why super-rich offspring often have a lack of human connection and treat others dreadfully is because to them, that’s the norm; that’s what they were taught is okay. He even muses that the Roy children (fictional characters who were born into a billion-dollar empire) in the popular television series Succession, are an accurate portrayal.

Cockrell ends his op-ed by declaring he has grown to have empathy for the super-rich and says, “for someone who has worked with them, I know that their challenges are real and profound.”

I, on the other hand, am still a tad apathetic and can only hope that Cockrell is encouraging his clients to share their wealth with those who are less fortunate as, in my opinion, that’d help everyone.

Manifesting Your Dream Life Starts With This One Simple Change
Manifesting Your Dream Life Starts With This One Simple Change

Manifesting is one of those ~cringe~ expressions that is most often heard coming out of the mouth of someone incredibly insincere. But what if we told you there is a humble way to do it – one that’s actually effective?

Manifesting – thinking about something so much you make it happen – is a fluffy concept at best (and a selfish one at worst). But meditation coach and founder of @soulalive.meditation Luke McLeod recently took to Instagram with the most attractive take on the phenomenon we’ve ever heard.

Mcleod says that if you flip the concept of manifesting, instead focussing on the things you already have and which you are grateful for, you will be more likely to manifest more good things into being.

“‘Fake it until you make it’ has never really sat well with me,” Mcleod said. “Thinking as if I have a million dollars in the bank or that it’s coming to me soon has always felt a bit weird and disingenuous. It wasn’t until I flipped the whole manifesting thing on its head that it actually started to make more sense, and actually kind of worked.”

“Instead I would give thanks for what I already had and that which I was wanting more of. For example, if it’s a partner you’re trying to manifest into your world, rather than saying something like my dream partner is coming to me right now, take a moment to give thanks for the current good relationships you have already – whether that might be with your friends or your family.”

RELATED: I Solved My Quarter-Life Crisis With A Skateboard

“This approach… creates a sense of certainty and contentment within us and we all know that people are more attracted to someone who was already happy and content with themselves,” Mcleod finished.

Practising gratitude is a well-known way of improving your mental health. According to Harvard Health, “In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness.” They also say that “Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.”
