If there’s one thing that ruins a man’s outfit more than anything, it’s a bulge. No, not the kind that can earn you interest from Cosmo, or looks of jealousy from other guys, but pocket bulge.
Stuffing too much into the pockets of your pants not only ruins the overall aesthetic of your look, with any lines you’re trying to achieve being disrupted, but it can ruin your clothes by constantly stretching them. While it may be pretty simple to slim down everyday items such as a wallet, replacing a bifold or trifold with a much cleaner cardholder, the same can’t always be said for phones.
While smartphone manufacturers consistently strive to produce devices that are as slim as possible, the amount of tech that goes inside them obviously requires a certain amount of space. The result is a phone that increases in size year after year, and one that becomes increasingly more difficult to house when out and about.
That’s where flip phones come in. Their aim is to offer a similar smartphone experience, but with the ability to fold down into a more manageable shape. The flip phone design was incredibly popular during its peak in the early 2000s, with owners particularly liking the fact you could flick it open or slam it shut when wanting to make a call, or wanting to abruptly hang up on somebody if a conversation became heated.
Following the introduction of smartphones, however, we’ve now become accustomed to big-screen, rectangular devices instead. Samsung and Motorola are now hoping the nostalgic feel brought back by the Z Flip and Razr respectively could see a sway in direction once again, and bring with it devices that are easier to find a home for.
Or at least, that’s the theory.
While we haven’t been able to get our hands on the latest flip device, the Galaxy Z Flip, to see if it does indeed offer the same performance as a ‘regular’ rectangular smartphone, we can be pretty certain it won’t be as pocketable as you think.
Stick a smartphone in the front pocket of your pants and you’ll instantly see it protruding out from your thigh. If you wear slim or loose fit pants then it won’t be as noticeable as if you wear skinny fit jeans or chinos, but there’s no denying the lines are there. And that’s caused by phones that are usually less than 10mm thick.
The Galaxy Z Flip meanwhile comes in with a similar thickness when unfolded, but when it’s folded shut and in your pocket, its depth increases to a huge 17.3mm. Sure, its overall form is a small square and it will reduce the amount of length in your pants, but as a compromise, you’ll get more girth.
Whether or not this bothers you comes down entirely to preference. You may find that the smaller, folded form is perfect to slip into your pocket. For us, we’re not so sure. When you sit down, your pants are stretched due to the bend in your knee. With a flip phone in your pocket and their not-so-svelte frames, the material is going to be stretched even further. A big no-no in our book.

“Culinary masochism” is something you’d expect from an Instagram model with rock hard abs, a peach-like #booty and a torso more coveted than a ~verified~ blue tick.
Au contraire.
It turns out it’s something we’re all guilty of. Above all, at 40,000ft. How do we know this? Well, without assuming too much, we extrapolated WA food critic Max Brearley’s cutting self-observations to ourselves and then to the rest of humankind…
Are we wrong? Read and tell.
Here’s what Max recently admitted in a piece published in ESCAPE: “At the core of my guilty pleasures is pressing pause and letting go… My pleasure is in not making the call.”
“Letting go of choice has its rewards.”
What does he mean? Basically, he reckons, one of life’s juiciest pleasures is munching something you have absolutely no expectations of, while not having to make a single decision.
Like a Tinder hookup but better.
Passive consumer, fat arse layabout, call it what you will. When you’re in a dark Economy middle seat this sensation of illicit bliss is one we can all relate to.
High carb beer and salty nut calories be damned.
View this post on Instagram
Here at DMARGE, we reckon we can all learn from Max’s brutal honesty: “Until recently I kept my love of airline food to myself. I’m not talking about the fare of business and first, developed with some of the world’s renowned chefs, but the ubiquitous foil-wrapped tray, cardboard box or even the humble bag of nuts.”
“Only at cruising altitude could I revel so much in a chicken sausage.”
“This isn’t some niche form of culinary masochism,” he added. “I’ll study the menu card on a long-haul flight, planning my choice; a palpable disappointment should I miss out on my first choice or, God forbid, sleep through the service.”
Even more damning, he admitted, “On a recent Emirates flight from Dubai to Sao Paulo I deliberated over where best to place their ‘wake me up for a meal’ sticker, backing this up with a few questions to the flight attendant, just to drive the point home.”
So, people: admit your guilty sin – then embrace it.

Breitling has looked to its past for its latest watch release, by choosing to modernise the 765 AVI (aviation) Co-Pilot. Announced by Breitling CEO Georges Kern on his Instagram page, the new model, appropriately called the 765 AVI 1953 Re-Edition, pays faithful homage to the original, released 67 years ago.
Breitling launched the original 765 AVI Co-Pilot in 1953 in response to the changing trends in the watch industry post-WWII. Those trends included legibility, waterproofness and reliability. One of the standout features of Breitling’s watch was the 15-minute interval counter at three o’clock, which replaced the conventional day/date window. This, in particular, was a favourite of pilot’s at the time, as it was easier to read than a regular subdial.
Arriving in three different colours: steel, rose gold and platinum, the Re-Edition model looks virtually indistinguishable from its predecessor. As with the original model, this modern update features a 41mm case with a domed Hesalite crystal, along with the same Arabic numerals. You also get the same 15-minute counter at three o’clock and a 12-hour counter at six. Breitling has even gone to great lengths to mimic the colour of the luminescent coating found on the original model.

Powering the watch is a hand-wound in-house produced B09 calibre movement, which is based on the B01 and has been designed specifically for vintage-inspired models and has a 70-hour power reserve.
Breitling has come clean in revealing the only factors that aren’t the same as the original Co-Pilot: it’s now water resistance up to 30 metres, and the dial no longer shows the word Geneve. We think we can forgive the company for making the omission.
Kern has revealed the steel model with black dial – limited to 1953 models – will be available first in March for SFR 7,900/A$11,100, the rosé gold model, also with black dial – limited to 253 models –, will arrive in May for SFR 21,100/ A$29,500, while the platinum model with blue dial – limited to 153 models – will round out the new collection in June for SFR 39,000/ $54,990.

Looking for the best men’s shorts to see you through summer in style? You’ve come to the right place.
A pair of cool shorts for men is an absolute necessity. Although we’ll admit there can be such a thing as a ‘right’ pair and a ‘wrong’ pair, we wouldn’t be seen stepping foot outside in a pair of outlandishly branded pair of sweat shorts for example. A well-fitting pair of chino shorts for men, however, is an entirely different ball game.
In this men’s shorts story…
Men’s shorts can be broken down into several categories, and we’ve got you covered on all bases to guarantee that you find the best pair for you.
If you’re looking for a new pair of swimmers or board shorts, or you need to update your gym shorts or running shorts, you’ll find a whole list of brands on their respective pages.
But if warm weather is giving you a reason to get a new pair of everyday shorts for men, that can accompany you from daytime strolling to nighttime boozing, look no further as we’ve curated a list of the brands offering some of the best examples around.
Just like any well-made suit or dress shirt, shorts for men also have their own grading system for looking sharp, albeit a bit more casual. The main criteria are simple: fit, material, length, and patterns. Nail these and you’ll have one of the coolest-looking summer outfits.
Ideal Short Length
Below knee, above the knee, and short shorts. These are the three main length categories of shorts for men these days (unless you’re into reggae you shouldn’t be rocking three-quarter shorts, and you can leave basketball shorts to Adam Sandler). For the best men’s shorts look, choose lengths according to the rest of your outfit. Tees and singlets go with shorter shorts whilst below-knee and above-knee shorts pair well with casual dress shirts and polos.
How Men’s Shorts Should Fit?
Would you wear a pair of shoes that don’t fit? The same answer applies to men’s shorts. Whilst casual trends champion the idea that if a pair of men’s shorts are baggy and comfortable then they’re perfect, there’s more to it than that.
For styling purposes, a baggy pair of cargo shorts from 2003 just won’t cut it. What you need is decent tapering along the leg length which makes the wearer appear taller. There are rules though, and that’s not to go too tight, otherwise, you’re in hot pants territory. The best-fitting shorts for men don’t show the contour of your frank and beans to the public.
The fit around your waist should also be comfortable but firm, although not tight. If you can wedge your index finger between the waistband and your waist, you’ve found a perfect pair.
Top Men’s Shorts Materials
Cotton, polyester, denim… men’s shorts come in a plethora of material variations so choosing the right one is essential depending on the occasion. Cotton and organic cotton is usually the go-to item for more smart-casual looks whilst polyester covers the athleisure segment, and denim is perfect for a casual/street style look. There are also linen shorts these days and these are perfect for warm weather, you know those days when the mercury really starts to soar.
Popular Prints & Patterns For Men’s Shorts
The rules are simple for prints and patterns – make sure there’s a contrast between your top and bottom. Whether that be through colour blocking or contrasting patterns, that’s entirely up to you. Just be wary of vertical lines as it can accentuate unflattering body lines if you don’t have the physique of Thor.

Whenever you jet off on holiday, whether it be a six-month excursion to Europe or a two-week lads trip to somewhere with sun, sea and strawberry daiquiris, you find yourself dressing a certain way for the airport. Step through the doors into any terminal and suddenly rules of fashion, for many, go out the window. But that shouldn’t be the case, as it’s just another opportunity for you to show you know how to look good.
Case in point: Jason Derulo. When he’s not posting salacious pictures that leave nothing to the imagination, the US singer regularly proves to be a master of casual style. His latest outfit is no different, and while the brands and overall cost will put even your best loungewear to shame, he shows us all how we should be dressing when taking off from terra firma.

Spotted arriving at LAX International Airport in Los Angeles on February 19th, 2020, where he was flying out to Dubai, Derulo put together an all-black ensemble ideal for laying down in his first-class bed and catching forty winks during his flight. His hoodie is from LA-based fashion label Ih Nom Uh Nit (meaning, ‘to have no name’), a relatively young luxury streetwear brand.
Jason’s exact hoodie can’t be found online (it’s likely part of an upcoming collection), but the company offers plenty of alternatives, such as this one for US$344. Jason pairs his luxe sweater with a pair of black sweatpants, but it’s his footwear that steals the show and repents his sin of combining socks with slides.
That’s because the slides are from Christian Louboutin. Yep, they aren’t your run of the mill Adidas slides, but a much more luxurious – and expensive, at US$495 – version that uses calfskin leather for supreme comfort. They’re also on a platform sole to give Jason an extra few inches…in the height department.
We’ll certainly be thinking twice next time we put together an airport outfit.

His five minutes of fame may be over, but Dan Bilzerian is still the king of extravagance. Yesterday the notorious gambler, would-be navy seal and Instagram poser (and, according to Wikipedia, ‘actor’) showed his 30.6 million followers a glimpse of his gun room.
Posting the clip to his Instagram story, from what appears to be his Bel Air mansion in Los Angeles, Dan proved why he is both so popular and so despised online, flaunting a gun collection that would put an evil dictator to shame.

Though Dan has attracted a lot of hate over his shallow attitude to life, it’s hard to deny he is a social media master, who knows how to get a reaction (and a following).
View this post on Instagram
This is not the first time Bilzerian has shown off his guns either, with his weapons coming third in ‘post frequency’ only after his cash and the women with whom he surrounds himself.

This wannabe playboy lifestyle comes at a cost though, with numerous media reports suggesting he may be overcompensating at best, and an avatar of toxic masculinity at worst.
Judging by his Instagram, he doesn’t care. He’s also started 2020 off quite busy, first by losing 1M $US betting against Connor McGregor, then by appearing to get engaged (we doubt this is anything more than rumour) and most recently (last week) by launching a Vodka brand.
In his downtime, we imagine he’ll continue posting thought-provoking, wholesome content as he has done for years. From guns…
…to cars…
