This Convertible Range Rover Is Australia’s Crustiest (& Most Unique) SUV
This Convertible Range Rover Is Australia’s Crustiest (& Most Unique) SUV

The classic Range Rover is a rolling monument to 70s British haw-haw luxury… So how do you make a classic Rangie even more luxurious? Chop the top off, obviously.

Many revheads will be familiar with the Range Rover Evoque Convertible, which was only produced between 2017 and 2018 and is widely regarded as one of the most divisive vehicles of all time.

At the time of its release, Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern proudly called it “the first luxury SUV convertible” – but actually, it wasn’t. Both Land Rover’s internal Special Vehicle Conversions department and aftermarket firm Vantagefield converted a number of classic Range Rovers to drop-tops back in the day.

This 1982 Range Rover is one of the latter conversions – indeed, it’s the only Vantagefield Range Rover convertible in Australia, according to the seller.

The crust is real. Images: Facebook Marketplace

While it only has 57,550 miles on the clock and runs fine, it’s clearly seen better days. The duco is severely sun-damaged, especially on the bonnet; the interior (which was apparently redone in cream leather after Vantagefield went at it) is in disarray; there’s a bit of body rust visible around the centre consoles and crucially, the soft top is very crusty.

But if you could clean it up – Rangies in worse condition regularly get saved from beyond the brink – you’d have easily the most unique luxury SUV in Australia. Just imagine cruising around with the top down. You’d feel like General Montgomery.

The seller is currently only fielding expressions of interest but we reckon there could be a deal to be had. Fortune favours the bold and all that… Check it out on Facebook Marketplace.

Popular Men’s Haircuts Everyone Wants In 2022
Popular Men’s Haircuts Everyone Wants In 2022

Cool haircuts 101 – In the same way that fashion is cyclical, what is on trend in the world of men’s haircuts can change at a rapid pace. Predominantly inspired by whatever haircut our favourite celebrities are rocking at the time, getting yourself the latest popular haircut is a task that requires commitment. Each passing year presents a prime opportunity to try out a number of new hairstyles, and following the spate of not so cool home haircuts caused by the 2020 pandemic, 2022 is an ideal time to get your hair under control.

We’re already seeing a wave of popular men’s haircuts atop the heads of some of the most stylish guys around, with everything from medium-length hairstyles, to hairstyles for men with long hair and of course, the usual array of undercut haircuts, skin fades and taper fade haircuts.

While short haircuts remain the most popular hair trend, medium and long hairstyles are starting to pick up fast. Although most of these trendy hairstyles are not really new, they continue to offer an endless styling variation that makes them remain fresh and fashionable.

From classic hairstyles like the buzz cut, pompadour, and comb-over, to modern haircuts like the quiff, faux hawks, and fringe, these are some of the most popular men’s haircuts currently doing the rounds.

How To Choose The Right Haircut For Your Head

Nailing a new haircut can be a bit of a challenge, especially for men. It is much more than going to the barber and saying, “Make me look like Brad Pitt!” Here’s the thing: Your hair type (and length), face shape, and lifestyle are some of the factors that you need to consider when picking a hairstyle.

A great haircut should complement your face shape by enhancing your best features and minimising the less desirable ones. For example, if you have a big forehead, you want a hairstyle with a fringe that can either hide the forehead or make it less prominent. On the other hand, a guy with dark hair and blue eyes will benefit from a very tight haircut that makes the eyes pop.

To make things easier:

  1. Check online haircut galleries or celebrity pictures to pick the hairstyle you want.
  2. Make sure that the star or model has the same facial features and hair type as you.
  3. Print the image or save it on your phone and show it to your barber on your next visit.

But, even as you pick a haircut that works for your facial features and hair, you should also bring your profession into consideration. While the traditional workplace rules are more relaxed nowadays, you still don’t want to cross over the line.

Think of the image you want to portray to your clients, mostly if you work in a conservative environment. However, if your work environment is more creative, you are free to do as you please.

So, what men’s haircuts and hairstyles are proving popular right now? Check out the below styles for inspiration for your new look.

French Crop Haircut

The French Crop has recently been made famous by UK DJ Michael Bibi

Stylish and timeless, the French crop haircut has managed to hold its position as one of the most popular haircuts for men. Featuring a cropped fringe and being a prime candidate for pairing with a range of fade hairstyles, such as the taper fade or skin fade, this style offers an excellent option for guys who want to look elegant but don’t have the time to commit to hairstyling and maintenance. The French crop haircut has become such a popular haircut for men due to its versatility, as it can work for virtually everyone, regardless of face shape.

It is also a men’s hairstyle that can work with a variety of hair types, including thick hair and curly hair – it can look the absolute business with wavy hair – and while the French crop haircut will work without any product or styling applied, you can work in a matte paste or some wax to give it a little bit of movement.

Quiff Haircut

Probably the most fashionable and sleek hairstyle choice for the style-savvy guy, the quiff haircut requires extra length for the hair on top, combined with a fade haircut on the sides and back of the head. The only challenge with this hairstyle comes with styling, which can require a little more time and patience. That’s not to say it needs to look super preened and proper, as the quiff haircut benefits from looking messy, but you will still need to spend some time in front of the mirror to achieve the desired look.

The quiff haircut for men is one that can work for both thin hair and thick hair, but guys in the latter camp may find they need to spare a little more time in the morning to get the styling right. So, if you are the guy with time on your hands, you’ll need a hairdryer and some styling products, such as pomade, wax, putty, or mousse. However, if you have curly hair or wavy hair, you’ll soon realise the natural volume provided can make working it into a quiff hairstyle a walk in the park.

First, use your hairdryer to dry and provide some basic shape to the quiff, using a brush if you need help getting some height. Next, work some styling paste or wax into your hands and run them through the hair to help lock the quiff in place. Finally, finish with a light spray of hairspray to ensure your quiff holds its shape all day long.

Pompadour Haircut

The popadour haircut has been one of David Beckham’s go-to hairstyles for decades.

With traditionally short sides and plenty of hair on top, the pompadour haircut is the quiff’s sleeker yet more voluminous cousin – and a favourite of David Beckham. However, the large volume of hair at the top (the pomp) makes it unique. Versatile and fashionable, the pompadour haircut for men can come in many forms, and can be paired with a range of fade haircut styles and various lengths of hair on top.

And, despite the images you may see of David Beckham rocking a faultless pompadour haircut with straight hair, the pompadour is a men’s haircut that can be enjoyed by guys with curly hair or wavy hair too. The end result will differ, of course, but curly hair can still be tamed into a high, voluminous hairstyle.

To style your pomp, you will need to apply your wax or pomade on damp hair, then comb all your hair back, gradually setting some volume at the top. Once you have your pomp, use a hairdryer it to keep it in shape and finish off with some hairspray.

Faux Hawk Haircut

Another haircut that has made it to the new year as one of the most popular hairstyles for men is the faux hawk hairstyle. Closely related to the mohawk, the faux hawk (aka fohawk) offers the mohawk’s edgy and trendy aspects without all the drama. Unlike the mohawk haircut, which features shaved sides and a dramatic strip of hair that runs down the middle of the head from front to the back, the fohawk has a more gradual transition between the long hair and the faded sides. A faux hawk haircut is an excellent option for the fashion-forward man who wants to play up the punk weekends and look professional in the office.

Comb Over Haircut

Justin Timberlake has long been the comb-over guy. It works well with thick or fine hair.

Simple and infinitely versatile, the comb over haircut just had to make it to this list of popular men’s haircuts in 2022. Contrary to what you’d think about the comb over (maybe due to guys like Donald Trump), this is one of the coolest men’s hairstyles and one that is sophisticated and easy to achieve. The comb over haircut is one of those men’s haircuts that has a deserved place in both formal and casual settings, and will comfortably carry you from boardroom to bar on a Friday evening.

It also offers up more than a thousand ways to wear it, whether you want a side part, a comb over undercut, or a comb over fade, the comb-over haircut is one of the most flexible hairstyles going. The haircut works with virtually any hair type, whether you’re sporting thick hair or thin hair, and even men with curly hair can have a crack at it. If it works for Justin Timberlake, it can work for you.

Ivy League Haircut

Ryan Gosling like the Ivy League haircut

If you are thinking, “All these hairstyles are great and all, but I just need something simple.” Well, how about the Ivy League haircut? Simple, straightforward, and polished, the Ivy League – named after the Ivy League universities in the US, renowned for their preppiness – works best with a fade haircut on the sides – if you don’t want a high fade, then a taper fade is your best bet – with a bit of length at the front, which you can part to one side.

The Ivy League men’s haircut is incredibly simple to style, as it only requires a small amount of product applied to towel-dried hair and, as long as you have the length of the hair on top right, there’s really no right and wrong when it comes to the final look.

Angular Fringe Hairstyle

Machine Gun Kelly is a big fan of the angular fringe.

The angular fringe is quickly gaining momentum as one of the most popular men’s hairstyles for guys who want a youthful and stylish look. The haircut still borrows the “long top, short sides” concept, but the fringe is left hanging over the forehead, and it is cut at an angle to give texture. The haircut is ideal for guys with round faces and is also a great look to show off highlights.

Buzz Cut Fade Haircut

Zayn Malik wears the buzz cut incredibly well.

Hailing from military days, the buzz cut is the shortest and most drastic men’s haircut anyone can get. Back in those military days, the buzz cut – also called the induction cut – was given to new recruits to essentially remove their individuality and to act as a sort of uniform, as well as not giving enemy soldiers something to grab on to during battle.

This popular men’s haircut doesn’t require much explanation when sitting in the barber’s chair, as its notoriety will mean any barber will quickly whip out their hair clippers, remove the guard – or at least set it to a number 1 – and remove all your hair. You can’t get much more low maintenance than that.

If you want to introduce a little extra flair, you can combine your buzz cut with faded sides by way of having a number 2 on top, with the hair on the sides and back of the head gradually cut down to a skin fade. What you will find with the buzz cut haircut, however, is that you’ll need to make regular visits to the barber to keep it looking its absolute best.

Skin Fade Crop

Trent Pridmore, Founder & CEO of The Emporium Barber, which has three shops in Brisbane and one in Bondi Beach, has noticed some slightly differing trends from his customers. One of the most popular men’s haircuts he’s seen is the skin fade crop, a modern haircut if ever there was one.

The skin faded crop, as the name suggests, is one that exposes a fair amount of skin on the side of the head, with just a short hairstyle – the crop – on top of the head. If you want to imitate this cut yourself, Trent says to ask: “for a skin fade as short as you can go on the sides, blended up into a 1, and with a textured crop on the top.”

The Gentleman’s Cut

Manners maketh the man

A slick, suave haircut, the Gentleman’s Cut, as it is known, is one we suspect many inner-city workers will likely want to adopt for its sophistication yet stylish nature, which can carry you from boardroom to bar.

For this cut, Trent says to ask for a “fade from a 1 on the back and sides, blended up into a side part. Push it up and to the back and side on the top.”

“We like to taper the hairlines [in the shop] rather than leaving boxy, heavy lines so they grow out more naturally.”

“To style at home, use a matte cream of pomade on towel dried hair and comb it into your desired place.”

Slicked Back

Jonah Hill is a recent slicked-back specialist and your everyday man

Another hairstyle favoured by young professionals is the slick back. A high shine hairstyle, it too has its place in the corporate workspace as well as in more casual settings. You’ll need some good hair length to achieve a truly successful slick back hairstyle, so make sure you have the patience to grow it out if it’s one that’s new to you.

RELATED: Best Slick & Shiny Men’s Hairstyle Ideas That Will Get Heads Turning

When at the barbershop, Trent says to ask for “short back and sides and pushed back on the top.” And to style at home, apply your favourite pomade to towel dried hair and comb into place, but for a more natural look, use your fingers instead.

Truefitt & Hill have also seen an uptake in slicked back styles, with in-store barber Aras telling DMARGE a middle length 1940’s slicked back has been particularly popular. “Similar to the classic 1950’s side part, but without the side part. This hairstyle is for those who like more texture and volume in their hairstyle. A more modern take on this style is to fade the sides.”

“You would need a product that provides that shiny slick look and a pomade is the best for this for a high shine look. Alternatively, you could use a paste for a more medium shine whilst still achieving the slicked back look.”

For a slightly more modern alternative, Aras says a low taper push back has been asked for numerous times in the shop. “This is a modern variation of the slicked back look. It could be done with different lengths of fade on the sides, usually with medium to longer length on top.”

Classic Scissor Cut

Chris Hemsworth wearing a classic scissor cut

They’re called classic for a reason. A scissor cut is oh so timeless as it requires the barber to go back to the basics, before hair clippers were invented, and to simply wield a pair of scissors to work their magic.

Trent adds a classic scissor cut is “similar to the gentleman’s cut, but is kept a bit longer and one that uses scissors for a longer and more textured look that appears more natural and softer. Tapering the hairlines here definitely makes a difference for the better.”

“To style at home, apply a grooming cream to towel-dried hair, or you can first apply a texture spray, lightly dry your hair and then apply the cream. Then simply style with your hands until you’re happy with the result.”

Nathan Jancuaskas, founder of Men’s Biz adds he and his team have also noticed “a lot more emphasis on scissor work rather than just skin fades,” with some classic short hairstyles proving particularly popular, including “French crops and Caesar cuts.”

Mohawk Mullet

Dan Bilzerian loves the aggressive mullet.

Lastly, this is Australia after all, so it should come as no surprise that a mullet features on a list of most popular haircuts. For Trent and his team, he says “we like trying to keep them a bit more high class rather than full bogan, so ask for a 4/5 on the top and sides, with a tight burst fade on the sides.”

“For a tidier look, ask for the back to tapered out.”

As for styling, Trent asks us, “does this really matter for the mullet aficionado?”

“In all seriousness, if you’re seeing your mum for a Sunday roast then use some texture powder in dry hair and style using your hands so it at least looks like you’ve made an effort.”

Jacob has also seen a preference for mullet haircuts from the guys walking through his shop doors, “this has gained huge traction with Aussies and expats alike wanting the iconic Aussie cut – with so many prominent Aussie sports stars donning one it’s easy to see why!”

Nathan adds Men’s Biz has also been “seeing a preference for longer styles with guys coming out of lockdown or not being able to get haircuts the last year, and taking advantage of the extra length.” This is something Jacob has noticed too, “During the winter months we also see chaps experimenting with growing hair out this was even more popularised with lockdown cuts. Loads of texture easy to maintain for that Manly surfer vibe.”

These longer haircuts include “mullet-inspired looks, curtain haircuts, faux hawks, pompadours and quiffs.

For the guys at Truefitt & Hill, they’ve seen a preference for the faux hawk, as opposed to full on mullets – perhaps that speaks to the city’s political background? – “for those looking for something slightly more dramatic, this hairstyle if for them. Short on the sides with more length on top, it is edgy yet stylish.”

“You would usually style this hairstyle with a matte finish product like texture clay or for a more natural shine use a fiber hair management product.”

‘Squid Game’ Director Says Leonardo DiCaprio Is Welcome To Join The Cast
‘Squid Game’ Director Says Leonardo DiCaprio Is Welcome To Join The Cast

Hwang Dong-hyuk – the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed and hugely popular series, Squid Game – has revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio could potentially appear in future seasons of the show.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been making headlines non-stop for the last few weeks. First, he split from his girlfriend of four years, Camila Morrone – a break-up that led us to discover DiCaprio has never dated anyone older than 25.

Shortly after making this discovery, it was reported that DiCaprio is supposedly interested in dating 27-year-old model, Gigi Hadid. Then, just days ago, Timothée Chalamet revealed that DiCaprio has two strict ‘career rules’ that he lives by (“No hard drugs and no superhero movies”).

And now, it looks like DiCaprio may have a shot at appearing in Netflix’s most-streamed series of all time: Squid Game. This is because DiCaprio is apparently a huge fan of Squid Game – which just won six Primetime Emmys at this year’s ceremony.

According to Deadline, Hwang Dong-hyuk (who wrote and directed Squid Game) said during a recent Emmys press conference:

“[DiCaprio] said he is a big fan [of Squid Game], many times.”

Hwang went on to say that he was very open to having DiCaprio appear in a future season of Squid Game.

“Maybe, if time allows and if chances allow, we should ask [DiCaprio] to join the game.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk

The second season of Squid Game is set to start production next year and will hit Netflix in 2024. However, Hwang said DiCaprio, as well as other huge Hollywood actors, were not in his current “plan” for Season 2, as it will be set in Korea – just like the first season was.

This means if DiCaprio is to appear in Squid Game, it likely won’t happen until at least Season 3… But we definitely think the wait will be worth it because if DiCaprio – one of the best actors of all time – showed up in Squid Game – one of the best series of all time – it would be next-level iconic.

‘Correct’ Way To Store Your Carry-On Luggage Is Not What You Think
‘Correct’ Way To Store Your Carry-On Luggage Is Not What You Think

Think you know how to stow your carry-on? Think again. There is a much more efficient way of doing it – one that airlines would really like you to know about...

It’s easy to get blasé about travel. From the safety demonstration (I’d rather die) to the directive to “keep your seatbelt fastened until the sign goes off” on landing there are many things we switch off too.

But stowing your luggage in the overhead bins is pretty simple. Something you can’t really get wrong, you might think. Well, apparently you think wrong because United Airlines has come out with a viral video that shows you the right way to do it. And if all airlines have the same sized bins as United does in this video, then I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time.

WATCH: The ‘Correct’ Way To Store Carry-On Suitcases In The Overhead Bins

Enter: the video. Lip synched (as is TikTok’s wont) to a bizarre soundtrack talking about moving side to side vs. up and down, the clip shows you how you should be putting your suitcases in the overhead locker. And how is that? With the narrow side down and with the wheels first. It also shows a sign inside the bins showing you how to place your case.

“Pov: you’re on one of our new planes with larger overhead bins.”

United Airlines

This is also only possible, it should be noted, with certain sized bins. Something various social media users noted. The TikTok Brigade also pointed out that if you’re short, you probably don’t care how you put your bag in the overhead locker (so long as you can get it up there) and you won’t be able to see the sign anyway.

Image Credit: Paddle Your Own Kanoo

“POV…. You’re not tall enough to see the sign.”

TikTok user Casey Escamilla

One wrote: “Some of us are too short to see that.” Another added: “Respectfully I am 4’11. If I throw the bag up and it lands in the bin and not my head that’s a win for me. I’m sitting down.”

RELATED: The ‘Neck Pillow’ Travel Hack Everyone Should Know

One short person praised the video, however, writing: “As a short person I’m glad I saw this bc I never can see inside those to where that instruction sticker is.”

As for planes with smaller overhead bins, you should still never put your suitcase in lengthways, but you will probably have to put it in flat rather than on its side.

As Heather Poole, a longtime flight attendant, once told Travel & Leisure: “Large carry-on items go in the overhead bin wheels first. Jackets and coats go on top of the bag. Smaller bags go under the seat.”

“If you’re lucky enough to find yourself on a plane with the newer, taller bins, you can put them in wheels first, but on their side.”

It’s About To Become Much Easier To Get An Audemars Piguet Watch

Audemars Piguet is one of the world’s most famous and coveted watchmakers… In no small part thanks to the low production numbers and exclusivity of its products. Yet the 147-year-old brand has just unveiled plans to radically step up production, meaning it might become a bit easier to get your hands on one of their watches.

In a recent interview with Swiss publication Luxury Tribune, Audemars Piguet’s maverick CEO François-Henry Bennahmias confirmed that while AP will make at least 50,000 watches in 2022, the family-owned company is currently investing “hundreds of millions” in beefing up its production capacity. He explained:

“The industrial structure that we are currently building could bring us to 70,000 watches per year, long term. In 2022, we will certainly reach 50,000 watches, and in 2023 we may increase by 5%, but we are not in a rush.”

François-Henry Bennahmias

These figures are fascinating as they lift the veil on what’s often a closely-guarded secret in the watch industry – that is, just how many watches a brand makes a year – but also represent a radical expansion for one of the most storied and prestigious watchmakers on the planet.

Audemars Piguet’s stunning Musée Atelier and manufacture in Le Brassus, Switzerland.

An extra 20,000 watches a year (i.e. 40% more) going forward sounds like a godsend for watch fans who’ve spent years languishing on long waiting lists for Royal Oaks… Combine that with the fact that much of the heat and insane speculation that’s affected aftermarket AP prices over the last two years is starting to wear off and things are starting to look pretty good for RO hopefuls.

RELATED: The World’s Most Desirable Watch Brands Are Finally Coming Down In Price

50,000 watches a year already sounds like a lot but for a globally-recognised brand like AP, it’s surprisingly not that much.

For comparison, AP’s biggest rival, Patek Philippe, currently makes around 60,200 watches a year, and Rolex reportedly makes around 800,000 to 1 million watches a year. Yet it’s still almost impossible getting a Submariner at retail…

Prince William Has Been Wearing The Same Watch For 30 Years
Prince William Has Been Wearing The Same Watch For 30 Years

There’s been a lot to take in over the last few days with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II… And there’s a subtle habit that her grandson Prince William does that you may have missed.

William, who was the Duke of Cambridge and is now officially Prince William of Wales now that his father Charles is King Charles III, has been every bit the perfect royal in the aftermath of the Queen’s death, the 40-year-old providing a sense of calm and solemnity to the occasion with his demeanour.

You might have noticed him reaching out to shake hands and receive gifts from the public during the Long Walk at Windsor Castle on Sunday – but you may not have noticed what was on his wrist: an OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M watch.

Images: Getty / OMEGA

It’s a nice watch but what’s even nicer is that William has actually been wearing the same watch for almost three decades – and there’s a touching reason why which makes it a particularly lovely choice. Namely, the watch was a gift to him from his late mother, Princess Diana.

William was gifted the watch from Diana when he was still a kid, and he’s been wearing it ever since to remember his mum. When Diana died in a shock car crash in 1997, William was only 15.

It’s a midsize quartz model – hardly the sort of thing most collectors or most men of his stature would bother wearing – but it’s a touching tribute to his mum that he continues to wear it. In that sense, it’s rather symbolic that he’s wearing it while mourning his grandma, too.

William wearing his OMEGA in the early 2000s whilst being whisked away from paparazzi with Kate in tow.

William is now the next in line to the throne now that his father has become the sovereign. The Queen’s passing has proven to be a moment of unity for the royal family, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle joining William and Kate (now Catherine, Princess of Wales) in recent public appearances – significant considering the rift between the two brothers.

Stewardess Reveals Most Traumatic Part Of Working On A Superyacht
Stewardess Reveals Most Traumatic Part Of Working On A Superyacht

A stewardess currently working on a billionaire’s superyacht has shared a few industry secrets – that suggest it’s not always that glamourous working as a superyacht crew member…

Thanks to the popular reality show Below Deck and its spinoffs – Below Deck Mediterranean and Below Deck Down Under – more and more people are seriously considering quitting their jobs and running off to join a superyacht crew.

It’s a tempting daydream; especially because superyacht crew members get paid an absolute mint. But before you go and give your boss two weeks’ notice, beware: there’s a not-so-glamorous side to working on a superyacht.

For instance, a Below Deck star once revealed that on private yachts, there is sometimes an attitude of anything goes – and we mean anything; even awful things. And now a superyacht stewardess, who wishes to stay anonymous, has shared more not-so-sunny secrets about the industry.

Speaking to Express, the stewardess, who has worked on multiple yachts for over two years said that newbies always get given the “worst” tasks – meaning they’re stuck on the lower decks for long periods of time.

If a client is still onboard when it’s the crew members’ break time, they have to spend their entire break in their cabin. Image Credit: Burgess

“When you start, they give you the worst jobs which are cleaning and laundry, basically. I didn’t see the sunlight in a very long time.”

Luxury superyacht stewardess

The stewardess then further elaborated on what exactly new superyacht crew members are expected to clean and said one of those tasks was ‘traumatic’ for her.

“You mainly clean the cabins, toilets, and dry showers the whole day… and this is actually my biggest trauma: drying a shower.”

“On the yacht, the bathrooms and showers are made of marble and marble gets damaged with water, so our job is to make sure the shower is dry at all times. We have to use towels to do this, cloths or squeegees every time they take a shower.”

Currently, the stewardess is working on a billionaire’s private yacht and admitted the hours are long; roughly 14 to 16 hours per day. She also said that while she and her fellow crew members do get two-hour breaks, they’re not always that enjoyable.

“Depending on the yacht, your time off can be better or worse. Sometimes we can be at St Tropez’ port and I can go for a walk during my break, but if the clients are on board we have to stay in our cabins the whole time.”

Luxury superyacht stewardess
According to the stewardess, making sure everything is strapped down before a helicopter takes off from a yacht can be tedious. Image Credit: Imenco

And finally, the stewardess also divulged that “the most annoying part” of her job was when clients have unreasonable requests that somehow have to get done. The example she gave involved a helicopter and her current billionaire client.

“Every time he wants to take the helicopter, we need to secure everything because the wind that the helicopter generates is crazy. [But] sometimes he says, ‘I want to eat at 3pm but at 2:50pm I’m going to take the helicopter to go for a ride, and then I’ll be back at 2:55pm’.”

“And we are like, ‘How can we set the table in five minutes, with six-piece cutlery place setting, all the glasses etc. It’s impossible!’”

After hearing all these less-than-perfect tales, we may abandon our fantasy of working on a superyacht Below Deck-style and instead focus on somehow getting enough money to buy a superyacht of our own…

The World’s Most Eco-Friendly Sneakers Have Just Been Revealed
The World’s Most Eco-Friendly Sneakers Have Just Been Revealed

Sneaker brands are currently in the middle of an arms race to make the world’s most eco-friendly sneakers – and Japanese sportswear giant ASICS has just upped the ante significantly.

Meet the ASICS GEL-LYTE III CM 1.95: the world’s lowest CO2-emitting sneakers. Emitting just 1.95kg of CO2 emissions (CO2e) across its life cycle – significantly lighter than the lowest CO2e sneakers currently available on the market – they represent a huge leap forward in sustainable manufacturing.

1.95kg of CO2 emissions can seem like a rather abstract figure, but for comparison, creating a stack of A4 paper emits 2.34kg CO2e and a typical pair of running shoes generates approximately 13.6kg… Making the GEL-LYTE III CM 1.95s impressively easy on the planet.

Among the sneaker’s series of innovations is a new carbon-negative foam – made from a fusion of bio-based polymers derived partly from sugarcane – as well as the use of recycled and solution-dyed polyester, as well as a new structure utilizing tape that enables less material usage. Additionally, 100% renewable energy is used throughout the manufacturing phase.

The x uses carbon-negative foam in its midsole and sock liner, and recycled polyester for the uppers.

That’s all very impressive, but we think the greatest triumph of ASICS’ new sneakers is that they actually look like something you’d want to wear. A common trap ‘eco-sneakers’ fall into is that they’re often quite austere when it comes to their aesthetics. It’s no good making a pair of sneakers that are better for the planet if no one will buy them.

RELATED: Sustainable Sneaker Brands Perfect For The Eco-Conscious Man

Case in point: Adidas and Allbird’s FUTURECRAFT.FOOTPRINT collaboration, the next-lowest emitting sneakers, (which emit 2.94kg CO2e, by the way). They’re certainly worthy, but they just look a bit ugly, and therefore their mission falls flat.

RELATED: Adidas & Allbirds Sneaker Collaboration Reveals Ugly Truth About Sustainable Fashion

In comparison, the GEL-LYTE III CM 1.95s not only emit less CO2, but also look way cooler. They look much more like a standard pair of GEL-LYTE IIIs (one of the most popular sneakers in ASICS’ range as well as among sneakerheads and casual shoppers alike), which is a big plus.

The only thing you’ll be emitting is stylish vibes.

All in all, we think ASICS have a winner on their hands – and should be commended for pushing sustainable fashion in an exciting, substantive new direction.

The ASICS GEL-LYTE III CM 1.95 sneakers will hit shelves in 2023. ASICS haven’t released pricing details yet, but they’re likely to retail for around AU$250-300. Find out more at ASICS’ online storefront here.

Dubai Restaurant’s $1,000 Gold Steak Is Even More Ridiculous Than Salt Bae’s
Dubai Restaurant’s $1,000 Gold Steak Is Even More Ridiculous Than Salt Bae’s

There is a restaurant in Dubai that will serve you a $1,000 gold steak, which is even more outlandish in presentation than Salt Bae’s famous gold-covered tomahawk.

You may think Salt Bae has a monopoly on ridiculous rumps, but you’d be wrong. There are plenty of restaurants in the world willing to charge you a premium for steak. Enter: Rhain. Rhain is a Dubai steakhouse with an open kitchen, a charcoal grill a wide meat display and a walk in wine cellar. It’s one of the newest and best steakhouses in the last of desert and skyscrapers. It served a huge selection of wet and dry aged meats from all over the world, including Wagyu beef and A5 Kobe beef.

It also has fresh seafood and highly indulgent sides. Speaking of indulgence, it also has a certain steak offering that is currently blowing minds all over the world. This particular experience is currently doing the rounds on social media, with sportsperson Trevaun Alexander John’s clip having been reposted by comedy and culture account @memezar, where it has now been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

The video shows a steak covered in edible gold leaf being brought out to diners by staff in army uniforms (pointing their guns around the restaurant as they go), inside a case with a black exterior and a gold-coloured interior. The case is then opened with a great huff of smoke by a man with an apron and a white shirt with rolled-up sleeves.

Despite the drama (or perhaps because of it), many Instagram users were unimpressed. Social media user @toyiins wrote: “That steak better be tap dancing on the table for that price.”

Instagram user @gracee_michellee said: “It’s more funny than luxurious.”

Others, like @sparkfeast_in, accused those ordering of “Only [doing so] for social media validation.”

“For $1000 I want the voice actor of Captain Price to come out and say, ‘enjoy your meal mate,'” said Instagram user @__kai23___.

“Steak 30$ and gold 30$ = 60$ Yes, it worth it,” said @zarkotox, sarcastically. Though unconfirmed, one Reddit commenter wrote: “The edible gold is under a dollar for a sheet.”

@floss1e._ wasted fewer words, writing: “That’s so embarrassing.” Further remarks from the commentariat included: “what in the call of [sic] dutry is going on,” “f*cking cringe” and “when your entire existence is for the gram.”

Some Internet souls did come to the defence of the steak (and those who order it). “I guess they’re lucky enough to get at least a show,” @menii_0390 wrote. “In other places you pay the same or more and get nothing interesting, I’m not justifying the price, but those are rich people restaurants. For us normal people its never going to make sense if it costs more than 50$.”

Not everyone agreed with this though, with @moritz_dunker writing: “that‘s not a rich people restaurant… This is a restaurant to feel rich.”

“This is embarassing and if you except [sic] a whole show for eating expensive then you‘re a kid that wants to be entertained while eating. If i go to good places i want to be left alone to enjoy my meal that an exellent cook prepared for me! You‘ll never see these kind of shows in michelin star restaurants.”

There you have it. The people of Instagram have spoken. Probably wildly overpriced, but then again, that’s kind of the whole point…
