We’re all for aging ungracefully, but we have no intention of doing it sooner than we have to.So we arm ourselves with an arsenal of tricks and tools to cheat the clock. We moisturise and drink water. We exercise and eat right. We try to limit our vices and don’t leave the house without sunscreen.We’ll even try some of the weirder things science suggests. Going sockless? Sure. Ordering rare steak? Definitely. Getting a dog? Bring on Fido. Sex, wine, and naps? Duh.Add one more thing to that list. According to a recent study, if you want to delay the aging process, you also have to be responsible with money.Financial stress takes a serious toll on your appearance, says the study, published in the journal Research on Aging. Brandeis professor of psychology Margie Lachman and several colleagues discovered that people with the highest levels of financial stress appeared to have aged more over a decade than people with lower levels of financial stress.Over two hundred participants were asked to rate the severity of their money concerns. Photographs were taken of them in 1994-1995 and again in 2004-2005. The photos were then shown to a separate group of 19 reviewers, who were asked to judge how old the people in the pictures looked. The reviewers consistently assumed that those with greater financial struggles were older than those with more economic stability.“It may be that people who are under a lot of financial stress do not pay much attention to their appearance,” said Lachman in a press release. “Stress can also accelerate the aging process [at a cellular level].”Interestingly, subjects who said they were under financial stress did not see themselves as looking old for their age.“What did surprise us was that financial stress was related just to how old you looked to others,” continued Lachman. “It was not related to how old one feels or how old one thinks they look. So it showed up to others in one’s appearance, but not in terms of one’s own subjective views or perceptions of their age.”Other sources of stress – like work or home life – affected how old subjects felt, but had no effect on how old they looked to themselves or others. Latest iPhone Leak Reveals A Massive Upgrade On The Way

Apple may have won over the world with the iPhone X but one aspect of design which continues to dog smartphones has remained – battery performance.

Apple’s next power trip

After years of rummaging for the charger cable at the most inconvenient of times, Apple will apparently address the cries of its users by providing a class-leading battery life from next year’s model.

The welcome news comes via Nikkei, the world’s largest financial newspaper, who leaked the Cupertino tech giant’s latest plans. According to Forbes, Nikkei spoke to two sources who confirmed that Apple was in the process of creating an in-house power management chip which will be “the most advanced in the industry”.

Holistically, this will help the next generation iPhone excel in the areas of class leading power consumption monitoring and management. The Nikkei claims that users can “expect devices capable of delivering better performance on lower power consumption”.


“Based on Apple’s current plan, they are set to replace partially, or around half of its power management chips to go into iPhones by itself starting next year,” one Nikkei source claimed.

The second informant backed this up by claiming that Apple is “indeed developing its own power management chips for iPhones”.

The only downside? There’s no official confirmation of the project’s rollout date with the source saying it could even be delayed until 2019.

If it does come to fruition in the next two years, iPhone fans can expect to see thinner iPhone designs as smaller batteries with bigger capacities make their way into mass production. This flow on effect can also potentially free up internal storage space and reduce production costs.

Whether or not those savings make it to the end consumer is another issue altogether. With the iPhone X retailing for well over AU$1,500, we don’t expect to see a bargain anytime soon.

Their latest work can be seen in a series of bike designs which borrows the branding and aesthetics from manufacturers such as Husqvarna, Triumph and BMW. Whilst they look nothing like anything on the road today, the design exercise certainly gets the proportions right in a uniquely authentic way.


The backbone of the designs borrow from the sci-fi inspired looks of the Lotus C-01 as well as the white ‘ghost’ custom by smoked garage. It’s all tied together with a minimalist aesthetic which lets the intricate angles and clean curves do the talking.

The goal of these designs? To inspire manufacturers and designers to push the boundaries in order to create truly mesmerising motorcycles.

Forget about the debate between weights or cardio. There are benefits to mixing up your training with all forms of high intensity interval training, cardio and weights when it comes to your weekly workout.

The principle behind this is simple: it’s a good way to keep your body guessing and to utilise all three of the different energy systems in your body, that being ATP-PC, aerobic and anaerobic energy systems.

Today we’re going to run you through each one of them so that you can maximise the benefits of every gym session without wasting your time and energy.

HIIT Me Up


High Intensity Interval Training is a great way to get maximum benefit out of your average workout, especially if you are time poor.

It boosts your metabolism, burns tonnes of calories and helps to build endurance. Due to the work vs. resting periods, HIIT training is also great for teaching your body how to efficiently use it’s energy systems and you don’t necessarily need to use equipment. HIIT is also great for burning fat, but not necessarily muscle if you are refuelling correctly post workout.

How often you should be doing HIIT will vary from person to person, but if you are someone who is highly stressed and does not sleep as much as you should, I wouldn’t do it every day as it can spike your cortisol levels and cause too much stress on the body. If you don’t struggle with the above, then it should be good for you. It is a good workout to do around 3 time per week for the general person, be careful to use correct form with all of your exercises as when you are moving fast with poor form injuries can happen.

Cardio Fiend

Best type of training for beginners

A cardio workout is essentially when you get your heart rate up for a period of time. Steady State Cardio is when you train for a little longer at a lower heart rate, for example going for a light jog for an hour.

If someone is overweight, not used to training and significantly wanted to reduce their body fat %, then I would suggest that they should start by doing more cardio with only 1-2 heavy resistance sessions per week.

Although resistance training also burns fat, certain types of cardio may be more suitable in the beginning phases of training as it helps that person get used to building up a sweat, getting their heart rate up, getting comfortable with exercise and it generally does not require as much skill as weight training does so it is good for a beginner or someone who has not been into a gym in a while.


Examples of a cardio workout may include running, swimming, cycling, circuit training if you are doing higher intensity exercises.

Weight & Resistance Training

A necessary form of training as we get older

Resistance training is important for everyone because not only is it good for both toning and fat loss, but it is also important for bone health, especially as we start to get older.

If someone was lean and wanted to tone up, then I would suggest that they minimise the cardio and do more resistance training. In fact I would suggest some form of weight/ resistance training 3-4 days per week, but never more than 2 consecutive days in a row as you need to give your body a chance to recover. The reason I suggest this is because the majority of proven workouts base their training on this ratio.

Studies suggest that resistance training can help you burn fat for up to 38 hours post workout.

They checked in again with the same questions when participants returned home.The good vibes and wellness benefits of a vacay rapidly increased until peaking on the eighth day away, the researchers discovered. After that the benefits began to taper off, and within a week of returning to reality, the physical and mental well-being of almost all participants returned to pre-vacation levels.“[Health and wellness] increased quickly during vacation, peaked on the eighth vacation day and had rapidly returned to baseline level within the first week of work resumption,” reports the study.But don’t let the news discourage you from using every PTO day you can. The E-fan X hybrid-electric aircraft is set to take flight in 2020
The three major companies have been tinkering away on a flight demonstrator which will push hybrid-electric propulsion further into the commercial aircraft space than ever before. Deemed the ‘E-fan X’, the plane is slated for flight in 2020 alongside a robust ground test campaign.Some of these tests will involve switching out one of the aircraft’s four gas-turbine engines with a two megawatt electric motor before moving onto a second electric motor switch once compatibility has been achieved.The E-fan X program will see expertise and knowledge drawn from each of the company’s extensive experience in their respective fields.Airbus will have the biggest task as it tackles the overall integration of the technology from the control architecture to the hybrid-electric propulsion system and batteries alongside its integration with flight controls.Rolls-Royce will design and manufacture the turbo-shaft engine, two megawatt generator and power electronics, whilst Siemens will backup the pair with its two megawatt electric motors, power electronic control unit and power distribution system.The targets for this massive project are lofty to say the least with a trajectory to satisfy the EU technical environmental goals of the 2050 vision for aviation – a reduction in carbon dioxide by 75%, a reduction of nitrogen oxide by 90% and noise reduction by 65%.

Researcher says, "Baldness Should Be Considered A Risk Factor For Coronary Artery Disease”

Just when you thought balding and greying men didn’t already have enough to lament over, there’s new claims from scientists that they may also be at greater risk of heart disease.

The findings specifically target those men who suffer from premature balding and greying, with the study highlighting a five-fold increase in the risk of heart disease before the age of 40.

This sensational claim would make balding and greying an even bigger risk factor than obesity which currently warrants early heart disease by four times.


The study’s head researcher Dr Sachin Patil of the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in India said that the increase of heart disease in young men is evident.

“The incidence of coronary artery disease in young men is increasing but cannot be explained by traditional risk factors,” he said.

“Premature greying and androgenic alopecia (male-pattern baldness) correlate well with vascular age irrespective of chronological age and are plausible risk factors for coronary artery disease.”

To arrive at this conclusion, the study took on board 790 men currently suffering from heart disease under the age of 40. An additional 1,270 healthy men of the same age bracket were called upon.

These men were given scores based on the increasing levels of male pattern baldness and hair discolouration in the form of greying.

From here the researchers determined that the young men suffering from heart conditions were more likely to be those with greying or balding hair.

The study’s co-author Dr. Kamal Sharma of the same institute explained that, “baldness and premature greying should be considered risk factors for coronary artery disease”.

“These factors may indicate biological, rather than chronological, age which may be important in determining total cardiovascular risk.”

“Currently physicians use common sense to estimate biological age but a validated scale is needed.”


Whilst it may seem a little far-fetched, the results were still legitimate enough to be presented at the 69th Annual Conference of the Cardiological Society of India.
