New airplane seat designs are like a big talking Hinge match – exciting at first, but ultimately disappointing. That said: if this latest private suite concept can make itself financially viable; it will be a dream come true for the world’s germaphobes. The new seat comes from renowned UK design consultancy PriestmanGoode. The concept is called ‘Pure Skies,’ and the company has rejigged both business and economy class to improve both hygiene and personal space – something airlines are under increasing pressure to provide.PriestmanGoode took to Instagram on Wednesday to give followers a sneak peek.

“We’ve introduced UVC light and heat cleaning, in combination with photochromic and thermochromic inks in the materials and finishes,” the company wrote. “As the heat from cleaning reacts with the inks, a message of reassurance appears on seats, helping alleviate passenger anxiety about hygiene during boarding.”
“The pandemic will have a lasting impact on passenger expectations. Pure Skies is a complete review of both Economy and Business Class cabins.”
“Our vision takes into account development times, airline requirements for revenue streams, increased passenger concerns around hygiene and personal space and green recovery incentives,” PriestmanGoode added.

Simple Flying reports, “While modern business class concepts have begun to embrace things like privacy screens and doors, the PriestmanGoode concept takes things a step further, designing a space where passengers can retreat into a screened, protected area.”“Within the Pure Skies Rooms, each seat is fully enclosed with a floor to ceiling curtain separating the passenger from the rest of the cabin. Every passenger gets personal overhead storage and a personal wardrobe, along with everything they need within their own haven in the skies.”
“The seat itself has minimal split lines and welded fabric seams to minimize the places where dirt and viruses can hide. The fabric itself and other surfaces in the room are all antimicrobial, to make cleaning and disinfection easier and more effective.”
PriestmanGoode’s vision for ‘cattle class of the future’ isn’t so shabby either.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” It’s an adage we’ve all heard before, but rarely one that applies to cars.
The increasingly rapid pace of technological development means that cars that were released only 24 or even just 12 months ago are becoming superseded: autonomous driving and advanced driver aids like lane assist; ever-more efficient ICE engines and the rise of EVs; infotainment and device interconnectivity – even the humble license plate is changing, with stick-on vinyl plate wraps becoming legal in places like the UK and California.
It’s easy to get caught up in the unrelenting pace of change that’s sweeping the automotive industry and forget the essentials; the elegant simplicity of what makes a good car. A car doesn’t need to be the fastest or most technologically advanced in order to hold its own: good design and considered performance will always be relevant.
Despite developing EVs like the spectacular Taycan and having long abandoned air-cooled engines, Porsche hasn’t forgotten this. Just as comfortable celebrating their roots as they are trumpeting their latest innovations, the brand shared an interview with Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, who owns one of the classiest collections of classic Porsches in the known universe.
Best known as the groove master behind one of the world’s most famous rock bands, Berryman is also a gearhead, having studied mechanical engineering before committing to a musical career (a choice that’s panned out pretty well for him in the long run we think).
“My interest in cars fundamentally lies with the engineering and concepts behind them,” he says.
“All of the cars in my collection have something significant beneath the surface. I’m a great believer in the idea of form following function, and it’s something that works for me across a range of different fields. Whether its industrial design, clothing or cars, if you follow that mantra you always end up with real purity.”
Coldplay are easily one of the most successful bands of all time, having sold over 100 million records worldwide and won 9 BRIT Awards, 6 MTV Video Music Awards, 7 MTV Europe Music Awards and 7 Grammies over the last 24 years. That sort of success allows you to enjoy the finer things in life, which for Berryman means classic Porsches.
“I think there was a design language in the 1950s and 60s that had a very beautiful, sculptural quality to it as a result of things being drawn by hand,” he relates.
“Back in the 60s I think there was a real flamboyance, spirit and energy in automotive design that resulted in these very pure forms.”
‘Pure’ is the best way to describe some of the cars he owns, such as the immaculate 911S and 356 Zagato he showed off last week. He also has a 914/6 converted to GT specification, plus a totally original 1968 911 and 914 that both belonged to Porsche modifier and founder of Rennenhaus, Clay Grady.
Berryman’s not just your every-day Porsche enthusiast, however. The bass player founded his own car magazine and has an almost forensic dedication to restoring the cars in his possession.
“I go to great lengths to restore cars in a way that is true to how they would have left the factory – replicating materials, finishes and colours – often details you would never see, such as inside a panel or door. Anything that is found during disassembly has to be preserved or recreated when the car is put back together.”
While his 356 Zagato is an incredibly exquisite beast, his 911s have caught our eye in particular. The condition they’re in is truly mind-boggling and redefines the term ‘concours ready’. We can only imagine how much blood, sweat and tears (and $$$) has been spent on his Neunelfers.
The Porsche 911 is one of the most iconic and beautiful cars of all time. It’s why the fundamental design and layout of their most famous model has barely changed in almost 60 years. It’s a testament to the engineering brilliance of Porsche that even their oldest models can still hold their own from a performance and aesthetic standpoint even today: classic Porsches have maintained their relevance in a way that few other classic cars have.
When other brands talk about their classic models, it can feel like navel-gazing or a distraction tactic. Sure, the Citroën DS is a cool car, but it doesn’t make you want to buy a C4 Cactus. But when you see a 911, it reminds you of the unbroken lineage of excellence that Porsche has maintained for almost 90 years.
Berryman’s dedication and taste deserve applauding. His collection’s so good, it’s even got us forgetting how dreary Coldplay’s music is… But that’s another story.

Cocktails have long been a popular drink around the world, but their popularity – that of martinis in particular – has no doubt been helped by the famous phrase “shaken, not stirred”. Spoken by none other than everyone’s favourite British secret agent James Bond, the term is best associated with the vodka martini.
The phrase first appeared in the 1956 novel Diamonds Are Forever, but the MI6 agent didn’t say it himself until the sixth book Dr No. In film, Sean Connery’s Bond first uttered the words in Goldfinger. Since then, James Bond has become the guy all guys dream to be, aspiring to his life of tuxedos, cars, gadgets and women.
The pairing of James Bond and cocktails became more solid following the 2006 movie Casino Royale (although lovers of the books already understood the close bond, since the novel of the same name was released in 1953). In Casino Royale, James orders a Vesper martini, a drink much more specific than the vodka martini everyone knows him to be a fan of. But just because it’s so precise, doesn’t mean you can’t make your own and be like Bond.
Origin of the Vesper Martini
As we mentioned, the Vesper martini first came to prominence in the 1953 novel Casino Royale, although it likely would have gained more notoriety following the release of the film, the first to star blond Bond Daniel Craig. It’s named after his love interest, Vesper Lynd, portrayed by Eva Green in the 2006 movie.
The drink mentioned in the book was invented by Ivar Bryce, a friend of author Ian Fleming. Fleming is said to have written “For Ivar, who mixed the first Vesper and said the good word”, in the copy of the book given to Bryce.
If you want to be really technical, the Vesper martini is actually the first drink that Bond orders shaken not a vodka martini. However, the actual phrase used in the 1953 novel is “Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold…” The famous motif that gets said by every bar-going wanker today, didn’t appear, as we’ve mentioned, until 1956 and the Diamonds Are Forever novel.
When James first orders the cocktail, he didn’t actually have a name for it. When he is first introduced to her, he says: “I can’t drink the health of your new frock without knowing your Christian name.” A clever tactic employed by the secret agent to learn her name.
After telling him her name, Bond enquires about its origin, to which she replies, “I was born in the evening, on a very stormy evening…”
Deciding it to be the perfect name for his cocktail, he asks Vesper if he can use it, to which she agrees.
This differs from the movie version. James already has the name decided for his unique cocktail, to which she asks if it is named as such “because of the bitter aftertaste”. He replies he named it for her because, “once you have tasted it, you won’t drink anything else.”
Vesper Martini Ingredients
What makes the Vesper martini so unique is the precise measurements of spirits to go into it. It differs from a regular martini in that it comprises both gin and vodka, with Kina Lillet (a liqueur made from white wine and fruit liqueurs) instead of a more conventional dry vermouth and a lemon peel.
Kina Lillet was discontinued in 1986, so you’re not actually able to make the exact same drink James would have had in the fictional novel. The proof of Gordon’s gin has been lowered too (James ordered the drink with 94 proof gin, Gordon’s is now 75).
Another specific factor in the makeup of the drink was revealed in the novel, with Bond telling his bartender, “if you can get a vodka made with grain instead of potatoes, you will find it still better.”
We’ll get onto how you can best recreate the Vesper at home in a bit, for now, you’ll need the following ingredients.
- Gordon’s gin
- Vodka (Ideally you want 50%/100-proof, but this hard to come by. The next best is 40%/80-proof, such as Absolut, Grey Goose or 42 Below.)
- Lillet Blanc (or dry vermouth)
- Lemon peel
- Cocktail shaker
- Cocktail glass (For greater authenticity, use a champagne goblet)
If you want to get a more authentic flavour, you can substitute the now lower proof Gordon’s for Tanqueray, Bombay Sapphire or Beefeater gin.
Again, for authenticity, you’ll want to look out for vodka with 50% ABV (100-proof) and ideally, a grain vodka.
Lillet Blanc is a good substitute for Kina Lillet, although the latter included quinine, which the former doesn’t have. Many enthusiasts recommend using Cocchi Americano for a more bitter taste.
Classic Vesper Martini Cocktail Measurements
Despite the Vesper martini comprising both gin and vodka, the measurements differ. The following is how James Bond ordered it in the original novel.
- Three measures of Gin – 90ml/3oz
- One measure of Vodka – 30ml/1oz
- Half a measure of Kina Lillet (Lillet Blanc) – 15ml/0.5oz
Of course, these measures may be too boozy for some, so the modern-day ‘official’ recipe is as follows:
- 45ml/1.5oz Gin
- 15ml/0.5oz Vodka
- 7.5ml/0.25oz Lillet Blanc
How To Make The Vesper Martini
As with James’ vodka martinis, purists get sent into meltdown with his insistence on them being shaken and not stirred. Traditionally, spirit-only drinks should be stirred so as not to dilute them too far and to maintain their texture and a clear appearance – shaking a drink can inhibit a cloudy appearance.
At one point in the movie Casino Royale, James is asked if he wants his martini shaken or stirred, but considering he had just lost millions of dollars in a poker game, he replies “Do I look like I give a damn?!”.
Studies have shown that shaken martinis can contain more antioxidants than a stirred one. Besides, who would argue with the world’s greatest secret agent with a license to kill?
-
- Pour ice into a cocktail glass to chill
- Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker and add ice
- Shake well until cold
- Strain into the chilled cocktail glass
- Add a large twist of lemon peel (with as little white pith as possible)
Expert Twist On The Vesper Martini
The spirit-only nature of the Vesper will unsurprisingly not be to everyone’s tastes, so we called upon Proximo spirit specialist Hayley Dixon to provide a twist on the classic cocktail that will sing out to more tastebuds.
Hayley tells us, “The one thing that will always be debated by bartenders about a Vesper Martini is the shake Vs stir. In the book and film the cocktail is shaken but as a bartender, the concept of shaking a spirit-only cocktail seems a little wrong. You can’t control your temperature and dilution as well, and without citrus, you really don’t need to shake it. So for our twist, we will be stirring it down but keeping the flavours bright and floral.”
‘Peach Vesper’
Ingredients
- 30ml Boodles London Dry Gin
- 30ml Vodka
- 15ml Lillet Blanc
- 15ml Peach Liqueur
- Dash Absinthe
- Garnish Lemon Twist
Instructions
- If you have some large ice cube moulds make sure you get them in the freezer in advance, large ice is best for this one
- Get your Coupe Glass or Nick & Nora Glass and put it in the freezer. This cocktail will be served up with no ice so it is best to have your glassware as cold as possible
- Grab your Mixing Glass, Barspoon, Strainer and Jigger or other measuring device
- Measure all your ingredients in to a Mixing Glass, a large glass or into one half of a Cocktail Tin
- Cut your lemon twist, ensuring you remove as much pith as possible from the zest
- Add ice to your mixing glass and stir your cocktail down for approximately 45 seconds. Keep tasting as you go. The idea is to get your drink as cold as possible and to start introducing dilution. If you feel the cocktail still tastes a little ‘boozy’ keep on stirring
- Once your cocktail is nice and cold, get your glass out of the freezer and strain your cocktail into the glass straight away
- Garnish with your lemon twist by expressing the lemon oil from the peel over the top of the drink and then dropping the twist in
How To Drink A Vesper Martini Cocktail
Naturally, the only way to drink a Vesper martini is when you’re taking a break from killing henchman and over-entitled crime lords. It’s a drink for when you want to seduce a woman, hell, even name it after her if it will earn you brownie points. A tuxedo is obviously required, anything else and you won’t get the same taste.
Simply approach a classy cocktail bar, lean on it with one arm as you assess the room and let everyone know you’ve arrived. Speak your order to the bartender while you continue to avert your gaze to the crowd and in your most confident tone, turn to them and say “shaken, not stirred”. Cue smug smile.

Stock punting is either a game for mugs or savants: it appears there is no in-between. There are your seasoned investors who balance, gain footholds, cut losses, and create a varied portfolio that will rise with the market (generating wealth for themselves and their clients along the way), and then there are those that chuck a couple of grand at Tesla via their Robinhood account because ‘Dave Portnoy did it.’Why, then, you’d want to pull your money out of your super fund, which is already being managed by professionals, to invest it yourself, unless you were Warren Buffet (in which case you’re rich enough not to bother in the first place), is bizarre to say the least.A graphic recently posted to Twitter in response to a post by Motley Fool Chief Investment Officer Scott Phillips, sums up the absurdity of this situation perfectly – taking out your super to re-invest it yourself is a bit like playing roulette.
Maybe just the super you pulled from professional investors to have a punt. pic.twitter.com/5AsSfqBIb2

Earlier this year, DMARGE spoke to Fernando Prieto, CA at Solid Partners Accountants & Advisors, to understand the true implication of withdrawing $10,000 – or in some cases $20,000 – of your super early (something many Australians got the option to do over June and July, providing they met the eligibility requirements).“If you’re going to take out money, the superfund has to sell some asset to fund you redeeming part of your superannuation balance,” Fernando told us. “As the share market has tanked [as it had at the time], if you do this you’re sort of crystallising your losses and… you could find yourself in a situation where that $10,000 would have recovered and compounded and been hundreds of thousands of dollars by the time you retired [but instead it doesn’t, as you pulled it out early].”
“I wouldn’t be taking it out unless you really have to.”
In terms of specific numbers, for individuals, Fernando breaks it down like this:
“If we assume an individual had 30 years left before they retired, and if we also assume their superannuation grew at an average rate of 8% per annum, then $10,000 compounded for 30 years would be worth $100,626.56 in 30 years time.”
“If another individual only had 1 year left to retire then that $10,000 would only have grown to $10,800 if it also grew at the same rate of 8%.”“The impact is greater the number of years left to retirement and the higher the average rate of return over that same period.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not a subtle man. The professional promoter and undefeated boxing champion’s nickname is literally ‘Money’, and he lives up to that moniker: barely a week goes by without the 50-0 fighter posting some photo showing off expensive clothes, watches or bundles of cash. One of the richest athletes of all time and estimated to have made over 1.67 billion USD in revenue over his career, Mayweather spends his days promoting strip clubs, flaunting his wealth and generally showing off.The man’s known for his love of ultra-expensive timepieces, especially from the likes of Richard Mille – a relatively young Swiss watch brand that’s developed a reputation over the last two decades for its incredibly complex, opulent tonneau-shaped timepieces. So when we saw his latest Instagram post, it wasn’t the new Richard Mille on his wrist that we were surprised by. It’s the fact that he seems to have matched an entire outfit around it, wearing a white and pink ensemble (and what must have been kilos of bling)… Whilst still managing to look deeply unhappy about the whole affair.https://www.instagram.com/p/CDO24PMFxNw/?igshid=l0g7ryt5bpcsDon’t get it twisted: there’s nothing wrong with wearing pink. In fact, we’re advocates of it here at DMARGE. It’s just surprising to see Mayweather wearing so much of the colour, considering he’s built an image and career out of being an ultra-masculine (some might say close-minded) sort of guy.The watch is a custom Richard Mille RM 11 automatic winding flyback chronograph. There are lots of different derivations of the RM 11, such as the McLaren exclusive edition Lando Norris was spotted wearing earlier this month. If we had to guess, we’d say it’s an RM 11 Felipe Massa, but the piece is clearly bespoke: with a pink factory rubber bracelet and a sh*tton of diamonds embedded in the case, Mayweather must have spent well over the $250,000 average price of these bad boys.Mayweather’s watch isn’t the only thing that’s ‘iced out’: his chain and trinket bracelet are both also chock-full of precious gems. Oh yeah, and he’s on a private jet, just in case you thought there wasn’t any possible way he could further emphasise his wealth. Don’t know what would give him cause to be so despondent, considering the circumstances. The colour matching is a huge improvement over wearing a leather bag as a jacket, that’s for sure.

We’d wager that most guys have come to a point in their lives when they’ve looked in the mirror, or just tilted their head down, noticed their belly getting considerably more rotund and thought to hell with it, no amount of working out is ever going to change it.
Let’s be real: who really wants to admit that noticing any real major changes is going to take years of hard work in the gym and in the kitchen? Yes, summoning up the motivation to work out can be a hurdle faced by many a man (even if we know, in theory, it will benefit everything from our mental health to our relationships).
If you are someone who lacks the motivation to get the pipedream that is a six-pack or to put on muscle of any size, you’re certainly not alone. Don’t believe us? Check out this positive effect on mental health posted a couple of weeks ago, that has since garnered hundreds of comments from guys who lacked the motivation to hit the gym. However, the comments also reveal what it was that ‘clicked’ for them, in order to get them pursuing a more desirable figure.
A vast majority of the comments reveal that guys found the motivation they lacked simply by looking at other guys around them. Whether it be more muscular specimens walking down the street with an equally attractive lady in tow, or even a “guy named Steve”. Seeing what could be achieved (the dates) or what was in store if they did nothing about their weight (Steve) gave them the kick up the backside they needed.
There are also true words of wisdom, such as this comment from Ganceany, which reads: “Truth is, you are not gonna be motivated every workout, there are gonna be times you would like to sleep, or watch a movie, maybe you boss treated you wrong, your gf left you or whatever.”
“What really makes the difference is that in those low times, you keep moving, if you truly want it, you are going to get up and do it, you might hate it, you might want to go home halfway through, but you keep pushing.”
Others reveal they lacked motivation through a lack of education regarding training and dieting, “Once I understood how to plan my training and diet, and once I started to see solid results…something just clicked”, says silentimagehelp.
“Feeling in control and seeing progress deeply motivated me. I stopped seeing this as a chore and it became a game.”
However, there is a common theme among many of the comments, and it centres around mental health. Many of the guys admit they are, or at least were, depressed, either because they didn’t like the figure staring back at them, or they’d been through a breakup or some other situation they saw as embarrassing.
It’s certainly been proven that exercise can have a positive effect on mental health, as Australian mental health organisation The Black Dog Institute has told DMARGE before, “even just an hour of exercise a week has been proven to lower depression and anxiety.”
Adding to this, Dr Kathleen O’Moore told us, “If you’re a regular exerciser, you’re probably familiar with the endorphin rush and the subsequent improved mood you often experience after a workout.”
“That’s because exercise provides a wide range of mental health benefits, from building coping and resilience to distracting from negative thoughts and improving memory and sleep.”
We fully understanding summoning the motivation to don your gym gear can be tough, but if you can manage The Black Dog’s recommended one hour a week, you’ll soon start to reap the rewards and before you know it, you’ll have the summer bod you always dreamed of.

Investing is a tricky business. But many rookie investors fret about the wrong things. While there are innumerable mistakes fresh thumbed traders make, there is one in particular we need to overcome, one Australian investment guru claims. In response to “yet another free US brokerage mob” launching in Australia (which has come about after individual trading has seen a boon of late), Scott Phillips, Chief Investment Officer at The Motley Fool (a membership-based investment service) took to Twitter to say: “‘Free’ sells like nothing else. Makes otherwise sane people crazy.”
Yet another ‘free US brokerage’ mob launching in Australia.
What happens when you remove the ‘friction’ from transactions?People make more of them.Roll up, roll up. Spin the wheel. Buy. Sell. Buy. Sell. What do you have to lose?Oh, your life savings. I see…— Scott Phillips (@TMFScottP) July 22, 2020
So far so doom and gloom. But here’s where things get interesting. Instead of worrying about the brokerage fee of each trade, Phillips urges traders to think more carefully about the trade itself. Obvious? Sure. But one of the biggest mistakes rookie traders make is making lots of little bets, based on tip-offs they heard at (among other places) Ryan’s Bar, figuring there’s not much to lose in having a dabble (then six months later realising they’ve wasted their money on a bunch of highly speculative roulette spins).Investing with a brokerage fee (rather than on a free-trading app) will dissuade people from making this error, Phillips claims.
It’s true.When I buy $20,000 in a stock I pay $29.95
And I worry about the $29.95!Crazy!
But that’s human behaviour.— Mark (@MxJ61) July 22, 2020
“Behavioural psychology has a lot to say about ‘free,'” Phillips wrote in a separate tweet. “It’s a drug: Addictive and boundary lowering/reducing.”“You really think we should encourage people to trade more??? This will make a lot of people a lot poorer, because they’ll convince themselves they’re ‘investing’…”
Agreed.
Though on large enough trades, it’s a price I’m happy to pay to limit the damage to others.Maybe load the fees onto the sell orders?— Scott Phillips (@TMFScottP) July 22, 2020
Of course, one could argue, Phillips, being CIO of a membership-based investment service, has a dog in the fight. But, as comments made on a recent episode of The BIP Show illuminate, at least part of his point (don’t make lots of speculative trades) is solid advice. On a recent episode of The BIP Show podcast, James Whelan, Investment Manager at VFS Group in Sydney, explained why making lots of little punts, even if they are ‘free,’ isn’t necessarily the best idea: “You duck down to Ryan’s Bar, catch up with your mates, they say, ‘I’ve got a red hot tip for you Jimmy, you’ve got to get onto this one… they’re in Sierra Leone and they’re digging ants out of copper mines.”
“It’s just the biggest load of baloney… [but] you do a cursory look and purchase.”
“It’s the worst possible idea – you don’t know anything about it, you’re not that close to the company, it’s probably going to be a terrible idea anyway and there’s every likelihood that… on the other side of it someone is just selling into your buying.”
“The mistake overall I would say is that… if you’re not close to it, don’t even worry about it – at the small end of the scale.”
“It’s easy to keep up with what the HP’s are doing or CBA, Apple or Amazon because it’s in the news and it’s well disclosed. But the worst mistake you can make is to have a whole shoebox full of these [speculative] pieces.”

2020 has ~disappeared~ more of life’s little luxuries than 2007 and 2008 put together. Whether or not that’s an exaggeration, it’s certainly how many traveller feel, with the bulk of the world’s passports currently sitting in drawers. We’ve covered the changes business class passengers need to be ready for in 2021, which was was interesting, if mildly depressing, for the world’s hedonists. Now it’s time for the super pointy end of the plane to take their medicine: DMARGE recently interviewed Adele Eliseo, points hacker and publisher of The Champagne Mile, regarding she changes she sees coming to first class as we come out of these unprecedented times. Her predictions? Airlines will limit (or remove) passengers’ access to any first class onboard lounges and showers for the immediate future.“Once on the plane, personalised interaction will likely be limited, with cabin crew aiming to minimise exposure to passengers,” Adele relates.
“Onboard lounges and spaces such as the iconic business and first class bar onboard the Emirates A380 will likely be shuttered as airlines look to implement minimise interaction between passengers and crew.”
“With airlines looking to implement a range of new sanitation and hygiene measures, first class showers at 38,000 feet offered by the likes of Etihad and Emirates will likely be off the cards, too.”DMARGE has reached out to Emirates for comment but at the time of publishing is yet to hear back.RELATED: Airline Responds To ‘Naughty’ First Class Behaviour In Cruellest Way PossibleThis comes amid other changes to snacks and meals: “When it comes to onboard dining, many airlines are already taking steps to minimise food handling. This will see a move towards tray-based service, even in first class, where a premium is placed on presentation,” Adele told DMARGE.“The crippling effects of Covid-19 have also seen many airlines look to cut costs – at the pointy end of the plane, this might include cheaper wine, less illustrious ingredients and restricted meal service.”Maybe, for the next few years, it will be preferable to just live vicariously…

We’ve previously claimed that “the Beckham family is the most stylish celebrity clan in the world,” the three eldest Beckham boys Romeo, Brooklyn and of course David all enjoying just as much success modeling as they have as footballers (that’s not to undersell David’s GOAT status, however). Thanks in no small part to the discerning eye of fashion designer mum Victoria, the whole Beckham brood are consistently trailblazing fashion icons. Whether it’s Peaky Blinders-inspired heritage looks, bohemian suiting or effortless streetwear steez – the lads know how to scrub up.17-year-old Romeo’s latest outfit has once again made a splash, and may make many reconsider their stance on one of fashion’s most controversial topics: the rubber clog.On holiday with his girlfriend Mia Regan in Cornwall, Romeo posted a casual pic showing him chilling by a cliffside, wearing a casual ensemble with a Burberry hoodie and bright yellow Crocs.
The ‘sports mode’ Crocs immediately grab your attention, their iridescent glow in stark contrast to the muted English countryside scene. Rubber clogs, of which Crocs are the most infamous example, are an eternally divisive footwear choice. Ubiquitous, minimalist, and ugly to many, the humble rubber clog has experienced somewhat of a renaissance in 2020.Celebrities like Justin Bieber and Post Malone have been spotted rocking Crocs, and Kanye West made fashion news late last year with his Yeezy Foam RNNR – a futuristic clog partially made out of algae.Looks like the tide’s turning on these once-reviled shoes. Indeed, Romeo’s fans had nothing but praise for the bold footwear choice, many commenting that he’s made Crocs look cool. Others were far more interested in the man than their shoes, in any case.“You look like a younger Cristiano Ronaldo in this pic… like [a] 2008 version,” one commenter gushed.Something we can all agree on: opinions on Crocs may be changing, but the Avarca sandal is still a bit suss.
