UFC Looked Very Different In 1993…

The UFC today is a global powerhouse in the world of MMA, with a valuation close to $2 billion. But, a recently unearthed video shows how different it looked when the first ever UFC fight took place.

The video in question was shared on Instagram by user @pierremma_ and depicts the first ever UFC fight to take place at the first ever UFC event, UFC 1, way back in 1993. The very first fight was between Gerard Gordeau from the Netherlands and Tella Tuli from America.

WATCH: The first ever UFC fight takes place in 1993

Gordeau managed to progress to the final (UFC 1 was a tournament-style event) but ultimately lost out to Royce Grace of the Gracie family fame, which created the Gracie style of jiu-jitsu.

When was UFC 1?

UFC 1 was held at the former McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado on November 12 1993 but less than half of the arena’s 16,000 total capacity was filled with spectators. However, nearly 90,000 live pay-per-view buys were recorded by people wanting to watch the spectacle at home.

Nearly 57,000 people packed into Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium for UFC 193 in 2015. A stark contrast to the estimated 7,800 attendance of UFC 1.

In stark contrast, UFC pay-per-view events that feature the likes of Conor McGregor, retired fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov or rising talent such as Paddy Pimblett, are held in huge stadiums and arenas that sell out in record time.

McGregor’s most recent UFC event, UFC 264, for example, was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada with an attendance of just over 20,000 people.

The video of UFC 1 also highlights how much the clothing the fighters wear has changed, too. Today, UFC fighters are contractually obliged to wear clothing provided by French brand Venum, which specialises in clothing for combat sports such as MMA. Venum replaced Reebok as the official outfitting partner of the UFC in 2020.

In the video of UFC 1, however, the fighters appear to be wearing whatever they feel comfortable in, with Gerard Gordeau wearing a pair of grey sweatpants.

UFC 1 History

The promotional poster for UFC 1. Image: IMDb

UFC 1 was the event responsible for implementing many of the traits we associate with the UFC today. Primarily, UFC 1 introduced the octagonal cage, which was chosen to help the fights appear to be more brutal when broadcast on television. It was originally proposed to top the cage with razor wire, but this was ultimately dismissed.

The McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado was also chosen deliberately because at the time, Colorado has no athletic commission, so the team behind UFC 1 – Rorion Gracie and Art Davie – didn’t need to seek government approval for bare-knuckle fighting.

Unlike the UFC as we know it today, UFC 1 didn’t split fighters by weight class, fights didn’t have rounds – UFC fights today last for a maximum of five rounds, which last up to 5-minutes each – and there were no judges to award points.

In short, UFC 1 certainly paved the way for a new style of sports entertainment that has been adopted by hundreds of thousands of fans with each passing year. Because of its popularity, the UFC’s biggest stars, such as McGregor, can now earn some serious money. Conor McGregor, for example, is said to have earned an estimated $25.3 million through prize money winnings just from UFC fights.

Michael B. Jordan Proves Yet Again Why He Is The ‘Sexiest Man Alive’
Michael B. Jordan Proves Yet Again Why He Is The ‘Sexiest Man Alive’

The days of wearing a tux on the red carpet are over – these days, it’s all about showing some skin and flaunting what you’ve got, as Michael B. Jordan demonstrates.

The 35-year-old actor, who was crowned People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” back in 2020, wore a rather inspired outfit to the red carpet premiere of Amazon Prime Video’s latest big-budget series, The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power that’s had men around the world feel extremely inadequate.

Obviously, that Chanel knitted sleeveless vest is the real show-stopper – who knew knitted vests could be cool? It also shows off his impressive build. But the rest of his outfit is similarly luxurious and is an interesting mix between haute couture and relaxed summer vibes.

His high-waisted, pleated trousers come courtesy of The Row (the cult high-end menswear brand founded by the Olsen twins) and his white loafers are Tod’s numbers.

Being a Piaget ambassador, Jordan also rocked some seriously impressive bling courtesy of the high-end Swiss jeweller: a Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Automatic watch in 18ct white gold (ref. G0A45123) as well as a diamond-filled chain around his neck.

The jewels, the clothes, the rig… It’s a bit unfair, really.

Jordan is set to reprise his role as Adonis “Donnie” Creed in Creed III, the third film in the Creed series and the ninth film in the Rocky series, which is out later this year and is probably why he’s in such good shape.

It’ll be the first film in the franchise without Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa – though Sly is still involved as a producer under his Balboa Productions banner.

Luxury Yacht Used By Princess Diana In 1997 To Go Up For Sale
Luxury Yacht Used By Princess Diana In 1997 To Go Up For Sale

The luxury yacht that Princess Diana spent her final holiday in 1997 on is about to go up for sale. At the time Diana holidayed in St Tropez on it, the superyacht was named Jonikal. It has since been bought and sold a few times and is currently known as Bash. Its most recent owner bought it in June last year, but now reportedly wants to upgrade to a bigger boat.

The yacht was owned by Mohamed Al-Fayed, who tried to sell the superyacht various times after his son Dodi (Diana’s partner at the time) and the Princess of Wales were killed in a car accident in Paris in 1997.

Al-Fayed, who used to own Fulham FC and Harrods, eventually sold the 63-metre vessel in 2014. It has changed hands a couple of times since then, going by such names as Sokar and Bash.

The yacht was most recently owned by a rich businessman called Bassim Haidar, who purchased the superyacht last year and now reportedly wants to trade it in for a bigger vessel.

House & Garden UK reports that the boat is currently being refitted “with plans to launch it for sale next month.” The luxury yacht was designed by navel architect Vincenzo Ruggiero in the 1980s, and was first launched in 1990. It reportedly has nine staterooms capable of accommodating up to 18 guests and 26 crew.

The yacht also has a jacuzzi, a swim platform, a sun deck, a formal dining room, a bar, and office space. Though there is no official asking price yet for this September’s imminent sale, it was previously listed for $10,000,000 (and it last sold for around $14 million).

The yacht will be listed for sale through Seawood Yachts next month, with director John Wood telling House & Garden: “She is in the yard being refitted, and will be launched for sale in September.”

Princess Diana holidayed on the yacht in July 1997 in St Tropez, cruising in the Mediterranean for about four weeks. It was during this time the iconic shot of her sitting on a diving board was taken. Prince William and Prince Harry joined Princess Diana for part of the trip – before she continued on to Paris with her partner at the time Dodi Al-Fayed.

American Man’s Crazy ‘Couch Workout’ Is As Ridiculous As It Is Impressive
American Man’s Crazy ‘Couch Workout’ Is As Ridiculous As It Is Impressive

Whenever any of us step foot into the gym, we expect to find a range of equipment, such as dumbbells, barbells and kettlebells for us to complete our workout. But one man appears to have exhausted all those avenues and has instead turned to home furnishings.

Matthias Mckinnon is a man who appears to know no bounds when it comes to finding ways to push his body further and further. Just one look at either his Instagram or TikTok accounts and you’ll immediately see the crazy feats he regularly completes, all in the name of fitness.

One particular video that caught our eye shows Matthias performing a Turkish get-up using a 3-seater leather couch. The average weight of a 3-seater couch is 280 pounds, or 127kg, which is an astronomical amount of weight not just to lift in general, but is especially the case for the Turkish get-up.

WATCH: Matthias McKinnon Perform A Turkish Get-Up With A 3-Seater Couch

If you’re already aware of the Turkish get-up as an exercise, you’ll know just how hard, and therefore how impressive, Matthias’ strength really is.

What is a Turkish get-up?

A Turkish get-up is a full body exercise and an extension of a Turkish sit-up. At its most basic level, a Turkish get-up requires you to get up off of the ground whilst holding a weight in one hand. But, while that may seem pretty simple, the heavier you go with the weight, the higher the difficulty level.

The Turkish get-up is recommended to virtually everyone, but it’s a particularly effective exercise for athletes and those going through a rehab program after injury. And, if you want to increase the strength of your shoulders, there aren’t many exercises out there that can compete with the effectiveness of the Turkish get-up.

How to perform a Turkish get-up?

As we mentioned, the Turkish get-up ultimately requires you to get up off of the ground. But, rather than just stand up as you normally would, there is a set list of smaller movements you need to complete in order for you to reap the full benefit.

And, while we certainly don’t recommend you attempt Matthia’s method, using a damn couch to lift above your head, we have to say, his technique in performing the lift is pretty spot on. Here’s how to do it yourself.

  • Take a dumbbell or a kettlebell in one hand. It’s recommended that you use an incredibly light weight if you’re attempting the Turkish get-up for the first time, this would be around 2 – 4kg.
  • Lay down on the ground and press whichever weight you have out in front of you, so that your arm is perpendicular to the floor.
  • Bend the knee of the same side of the body that’s holding the weight and, with your other arm, lay it out on the floor around 45-degrees to your body.
  • From this position, you want to take a deep breath and push yourself up onto the elbow of the trailing arm. You need to keep the weight in your other hand held up above you, and you need to stay looking at it, throughout the duration of the movement.
  • Once onto your elbow, exhale and then roll up and onto the hand of the trailing arm.
  • From here, driving through the trailing hand and the foot on the working side, drive your hips up so you almost perform a bridge. You need to drive yourself up high enough so that you can then bring your trailing leg back under your body.
  • Sweep the straight, trailing leg under your body and place it behind you. You should end up in a position where the knee of the trailing leg is point the hand on the ground, and the knee of the working leg is pointing forward.
  • Once in this position, remove the hand that’s touching the floor and move your body into a lunge position, with your working leg at 90-degrees and the trailing leg kneeling on the floor.
  • Drive through the back foot to get yourself to stand up.
  • The first part of the Turkish get-up is now complete. From here, you need to move yourself back to the starting position, completing the steps you just performed but in reverse order. Again, you need to make sure you keep the weight held above your head throughout.
  • Repeat this entire sequence 6 – 8 times on body sides of the body

As Bodybuilding.com says, make sure you keep the elbow off the arm holding the weight locked out during the entire movement. If you allow it to bend, you’re placing the weight just onto your tricep muscles and you destabilise the shoulder in the process.

This is especially important if you’re holding an incredibly heavy weight. Or, in Matthia’s case, a friggin’ 3-seater couch.

How To Ask Your Boss For A Mental Health Day
How To Ask Your Boss For A Mental Health Day

Men’s Performance Coach, Mike Campbell revealed exclusively to DMARGE how to take a day off from work for your mental health, even if don’t think you can afford to do so financially.

Taking a day or two off from work because you’re sick is seriously essential – especially in the wake of the COVID pandemic. However, taking a day off because your mental health isn’t feeling too crash hot (this includes feeling flat, burnt out or just feeling like you need a day to reset) is just as important.

Of course, not everyone has the luxury of taking time off work. Some men work casually or on a freelance basis and a day off, even if it’s classified as sick leave, means no pay cheque. And for many men, especially considering the crazy current state of the economy, every single pay cheque is extremely necessary.

Never fear if this is hitting a little too close to home… DMARGE exclusively spoke to Mike Campbell, Men’s Performance Coach, and asked for his professional advice on how to take a sick day for your mental health when you literally can’t afford to.

Essentially, Mike highly recommends having an open discussion with your boss or superiors. Just be honest, and admit that you would like a day (or two) off because of your mental health needs and would spend the day ensuring you return to work feeling fresh and restored.

“[Taking a day off for mental health] can be extremely challenging, especially when financial security isn’t guaranteed. However, if you are someone needing time, then the first and often simplest step is to speak with whoever pays your wages and ask if they are open to a discussion about your wellbeing.”

Mike Campbell

“Share that you greatly value your employment and you are feeling the need for a day for mental health and while you are casual etc, would they be open to supporting you by giving you the grace of a day off. Express your commitment to honouring the day and using it when essential. This might receive a no, but you will never know if you don’t ask.”

Try openly chatting to your boss about a paid mental health sick day if you’re not already entitled to them. Image Credit: Getty Images

Of course, some workplaces won’t be able to provide you with a paid sick day if that’s not in your employment contract. But, as Mike says, there’s seriously no harm in asking and your workplace could help in other ways once they’re aware that you’re struggling with your mental health – for example, they could lighten your workload or allow you to leave earlier.

If you follow Mike’s advice and are successful, you don’t want to waste your paid mental health day though. You should make sure you use it to your advantage and actually try to improve your mental health.

“Don’t spend the day on your phone or device consuming information and content. Give yourself a break. Most men tend to have very little time simply being; sitting alone with themselves and their thoughts and feelings when they aren’t busy doing something. For some men, their mental and emotional well-being needs more time at rest.”

Mike Campbell

“However, for some men that is so wildly removed from what is normal and comfortable that it is terrifying to face what comes up there, so initially… they might be too challenged by this. So, perhaps they need good company, some exercise, and some time in nature. Find what will work for you that is restorative and nourishing and doesn’t just fill more time and space until the pressure builds again.”

If you ask for a paid mental health day and your workplace isn’t able to oblige, Mike’s tips are still useful; just prioritise ditching your phone and either resting alone or getting some exercise with good company and out in nature on the days you do have off if your mental health isn’t one hundred per cent.

USA Keeps Australia On Its Toes With 2022 Mullet Championships
USA Keeps Australia On Its Toes With 2022 Mullet Championships

Think Australia is the global capital of mullets, with no competition? Think again. The USA has a mullet competition of its own, and this year’s seen some real doozies.

There’s no competition like a mullet competition. But Australia is no longer alone in celebrating the cut: the mullet (a hairstyle described as “business at the front” and “party at the back”) appears to have been picking up steam in America. Not only have we seen Matt Damon rocking the iconic Australian cut but now it appears there is a USA Mullet Championship, which started in 2020, and which pits kids’ mullets against each other until the true mullet king is chosen (voting closes on Friday and the winner will be chosen this week).

Owner Kevin Begola first launched the mullet championship contest in his local town of Fenton, and after it proved popular there, he made it into a national event. According to the Mullet Championships website, some historians claim “the mullet has been around since at least Ancient Greece, where the style was as much for function as it was for fashion.”

Mullet Championships reckons: “Cropped hair around the face with longer locks in the back allowed for both visibility and a protective layer of hair for your neck,” even going as far as to cite “a haircut that sounds eerily familiar” in The Iliad (“their forelocks cropped, hair grown long at the backs”) in an effort to explain the majestic (though often mocked and unfairly maligned) hairstyle to curious readers.

“The relative ease of maintaining it makes it possible to keep up even without the existence of barbershops and hair salons.”

Mullet Championships

This year, there are 25 magic manes to choose from (all up 600 or so entered, but the above 25 are the remaining contestants). Wisconsin entrant Emmitt Bailey, whose family and friends call him “Mullet Boy” said he is excited to be in the top 25 after missing last year’s cut off (which appears to have given him even more time to grow an epic mullet).

“It’s extremely fun to watch the votes,” Emmitt’s father, Eric, told American TV station WEAU. “Then they went to 100 and then all of the sudden we were watching the votes and he kept climbing, and climbing, and climbing, and then it went to the 25.”

He also explained that Emmitt’s $10 entry fee will go to a good cause (the Michigan Wig Foundation for kids). It’s also not just kids getting in on the fun – this year there was also a teen’s division and an open division. Though Emmitt’s mullet looks pretty sick, having looked at the competition we reckon it’s going to be tricky to pick a winner.

His biggest competition, in our opinion, will come from William (whose DGAF style mullet looks hard to beat) and Rowan (who looks like he’s been growing his mullet since before this competition was even a thing). Head on over to USA Mullet Championships to vote, before it’s too late.

Daniel Ricciardo Net Worth, Tattoos, Girlfriend, Age, Height & Fast Facts
Daniel Ricciardo Net Worth, Tattoos, Girlfriend, Age, Height & Fast Facts

Daniel Ricciardo flies the flag for Australia in Formula One. While it would be fair to say he hasn’t had the most successful career in Formula One, his winning smile and nice-guy and carefree persona have made him one of the most popular drivers on the grid (although, his laid-back attitude could also be a seen as a sign of weakness) which, coupled with his fierce attitude on track, have earned him the nickname “The Honey badger.”

Ricciardo is just as popular away from the track, too, often seen appearing on various talk shows, rocking some incredible watches in the process – such as the Patek Philippe he wore during his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show – and he also commits a fair amount of his time to train.

So, who is Daniel Ricciardo, what’s his McLaren salary and who, if anyone, is he dating? Read on to find out.

Daniel Ricciardo Quick Facts

Name: Daniel Joseph Ricciardo
Age: 33
DoB: 1 July 1989
Nationality: Italian-Australian
Height: 6ft / 1.8m
Weight: 66kg
Girlfriend: Heidi Berger
Net Worth: $50 million
Instagram: @danielricciardo – 7m followers

Who Is Daniel Ricciardo?

Daniel Ricciardo is an Italian-Australian racing driver who was born in Perth, Western Australia on 1 July 1989. His parents are Giuseppe “Joe” Ricciardo – who was born in Ficarra, Sicily – and his mother, Grace, who was born in Australia, although also has Italian heritage. Daniel also has a sister, Michelle.

Daniel Ricciardo grew up in the Perth suburb of Duncraig and from a young age, he showed an interest in motorsport, thanks in no small part to the fact his father also competed.

Racing Career

@danielricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo began competing in go-karts from the age of 9 and he entered various championships in his mid-teens. However, at the time, the go-karts he was racing were pretty old, so Ricciardo wasn’t able to compete at a particularly high level, so he finished the seasons a fair way down the running order.

Nevertheless, Daniel Ricciardo moved up to the Formula Three championship during the 2008 season, with his first race coming at the notorious Nüburgring. Daniel showed a lot of promise and talent now he was in a competitive car. Just one year later, Ricciardo found himself behind the wheel of a Formula One car, when he was called up for testing with Red Bull Racing.

Formula One

Following positions as both a Red Bull Racing test driver and a loan spell with HRT (which saw him make his F1 debut at the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone), Daniel was signed to Toro Rosso (Red Bull Racing’s sister team) for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Red Bull

Following his impressive performance for Toro Rosso, Daniel Ricciardo was promoted to Red Bull for the 2014 season, taking over driving duties from fellow Australia racing driver, Mark Webber. Riccardo’s first season with the team was a stellar one, as he managed to finish third in the World Driver’s Championship.

Image: @danielricciardo

During the 2016 season with Red Bull, Daniel Ricciardo introduced the shoey to the world of Formula One, following his second-place finish at the German Grand Prix. Ricciardo has since performed a shoey at various other races where he finished on the podium and encouraged other drivers to perform them too.

Renault

Daniel Ricciardo moved to Renault before the start of the 2019 season, where he remained for two seasons. It’s fair to say his performance across the two seasons wasn’t what was expected of him, finishing 9th and 5th in the final standings, respectively. But, it could be argued his car wasn’t the most competitive on the grid.

McLaren

Image: @danielricciardo

Daniel felt his fortunes had turned around for the 2021 season when he was signed to race for McLaren to race alongside Britain’s Lando Norris. Unfortunately, once again, Daniel’s performances haven’t been what you could call outstanding. This has led some to speculate his time at McLaren is coming to an end and others, such as Damon Hill, to speculate his lack of performance is due to him not spending time playing video games.

Daniel Ricciardo Career Stats

Wins

During his Formula 1 career, Daniel has only recorded 8 wins. This isn’t a reflection of his lack of talent of course, but rather, he may have just not had a competitive car and obviously, has been up against some stiff competition in the form of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastien Vettel.

Daniel’s first Formula 1 win didn’t come until 2014 when he was racing for Red Bull. During 2014, he managed a total of 3 wins, and has been his most successful season to date taking wins into account. However, he also managed to finish third in the Driver’s Championship not only in 2014 but in 2016 too.

Ricciardo’s other wins in Formula 1 have come in 2016 (1); 2017 (1); 2018 (2) and 2021 (1).

Who Is Daniel Ricciardo’s Girlfriend?

Daniel Ricciardo & Heidi Berger

Daniel Ricciardo is a man who manages to keep his personal life pretty private, which includes his love life. However, it is widely agreed that Daniel is currently dating actress Heidi Berger.

Ricciardo was in a relationship with high-school sweetheart Jemma Boskovic, whom he met in year 12 at school. It was reported the couple even moved in together in Monaco, but they split in 2016.

Since then, Daniel Ricciardo has been linked with a number of women, but no official relationships have ever been confirmed. Rumoured partners have included Red Bull colleague Annemarie Horbass, American actress Heidi Berger and Australian model Jessica Gomes.

Daniel Ricciardo Merch

Image: @danielricciardo

Unlike some other drivers on the Formula One grid, Daniel Ricciardo has his own website and range of merchandise. His Ric3 clothing label offers a range of hoodies, t-shirts, shorts and caps and other accessories. It’s perhaps no surprise that Daniel has entered the fashion world, as he evidently attempts to remain on-trend with his clothing choices when he’s not racing (although, the less said about his 2021 US Grand Prix cowboy outfit, the better).

Daniel Ricciardo Training

One thing you can’t deny is how committed Daniel is to training and keeping his physical and mental health in tip-top shape, despite being one of the older drivers on the grid. He occasionally posts workouts to his social media accounts, such as this circuit workout and this reaction training exercise.

Daniel Ricciardo Salary

Daniel Ricciardo’s salary whilst at McLaren is an estimated $15 million per year, according to Racing News 365. His earnings at McLaren combined with his salary earnings from previous Formula One teams have given Daniel Ricciardo an estimated net worth of $50 million.

Daniel Ricciardo Tattoos

Daniel Ricciardo not only has a love for racing, but he also has an apparent love for tattoos. So much so, that he even convinced his former boss at Renault, Cyril Abiteboul, to accept a bet that would see the Team Principal agree to get a tattoo if Daniel scored a podium finish. Well, Daniel did, and Cyril delivered on his promise.

However, Daniel has previously, many years ago, said he didn’t like the idea of getting tattoos because he didn’t like needles. That all changed, it seems, and in 2013, Daniel got his first tattoo, just before his call-up to the Red Bull F1 team.

Daniel Ricciardo’s first tattoo depicts a ship sailing around the world, with a lighthouse, which he says “represents home.”

Daniel now has at least 20 tattoos on his arms, legs, feet and hands.

One of Daniel’s favourite tattoos is on his thigh, which has the words ‘Mama’ and ‘Papa’ surrounded by some hearts. He is quoted as saying the meaning behind the tattoo is, “Growing up, you are very close to your parents, then you get to the age where you want to move away from home and start being with your friends but then it comes back.”
Image: @danielricciardo

“You get to another age and you start to want to spend more time with them. I am at the point where I don’t see my parents that much but every time I see them, I love spending time with them and I wanted to get something for them. They don’t like all of my tattoos but this one they have to like!”

How tall is Daniel Ricciardo?

Daniel Ricciardo is 6ft - 185cm

How old is Daniel Ricciardo?

Daniel Ricciardo is currently 33 years old. His birthday is 1 July 1989.

How much does Daniel Ricciardo earn?

Daniel Ricciardo's current salary with McLaren is worth an estimated $15 million per year.

Joe Rogan Reveals How To Escape A Life Of ‘Quiet Desperation’
Joe Rogan Reveals How To Escape A Life Of ‘Quiet Desperation’

During episode 1299 of the Joe Rogan Experience, the UF commentator, comedian and podcast host shared his take on how men get stuck living lives of “quiet desperation” and how – in his opinion – you can break out of such a life.

While speaking to Annie Jacobsen – an investigative journalist, author, and a 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalist – Joe Rogan made a point during episode 1299 of the Joe Rogan Experience that resonates today more than ever. Speaking about the famous quote “men lead lives of quiet desperation,” which may have come from either Pink Floyd or Henry David Thoreau (depending on where you get your moral philosophy), Rogan said it’s “one of my favourite quotes ever, because it’s true and I’ve been that guy.”

“You’re just in this world where you just can’t wait to run away.”

Joe Rogan

Rogan reckons people get stuck there because of “bills and commitment,” adding: “You have an apartment you have to pay for. You have a car you leased. You have a wife… you have a child you have to raise… you have your mortgage, you have your this you have your that – that’s where it all comes from. When you’re young and you don’t have any responsibility, that’s when you have your options.”

Rogan added: “Your options are severly limited the moment you gather responsibilities. If I had to, as a 51-year-old father of 3 – [a] married man who pays taxes, has a house, a mortgage and a business – if I had to quit everything now and struggle the way I struggled as a stand-up comedian it would never work. The only way I could be this person now is if I took that chance when I was 21, when I was dead broke and had my cars repossessed and all that stuff – that’s the only way you get where you want to go.”

To avoid living a life of quiet desperation, Rogan said: “You have to take a path that’s dangerous and most people want to take the safe path and the safe path leaves you stuck in quiet desperation – almost every time. It’s hell: you’re selling insurance or some other shit that you care zero about.”

RELATED: Why Men Trust Joe Rogan: ‘The Multi-Million Dollar Regular Guy’

“The way you can change, you have to plan it out… You have to put aside enough money to give yourself a window; you have to spend all your waking hours outside of whatever sh*t job you do planning your escape and you have to come to the realisation very clearly that you fucked up.”

“You got yourself stuck, so whatever you’re doing, you have to do it like your life depends on it – whether you’re trying to be an author and you’re working 8 hours a day plus commuting (plus family responsibilities) or whatever else, in whatever time you have you [have got to] attack like you’re trying to save the world.”

“You don’t want to drown. The one and a half hours a day you’ve got to write, you have got to be caffeinated and motivated. You have got to get after it; you got to have discipline. Most people don’t have those things. Most people don’t know what it’s like to really go for something and… the consequences of not doing that are horrific.”

Rogan also reckons this concept of quiet desperation is why so many men follow guys like Dan Bilzerian. Rogan spoke about this on another podcast episode, saying: “there’s a lot of people out there stuck in cubicles, stuck in jobs, they’re tired all the time… there’s not a lot of joy and then they go on your Instagram and you’re f*cking jet skiing… and shooting guns in your underwear.”

Food for thought for your Thursday. And maybe time to get that nest egg building…

Afterpay Day is a biannual shopping sales event held in Australia by the Australian buy-now pay-later service, Afterpay. Afterpay is one of the best-known buy-now pay-later services, that lets you pay for products in instalments, spread out over a 6-week period, with zero interest.

And, continuing on from the first Afterpay Day in March 2022, Afterpay is still supporting Australians affected by the floods, by inviting customers to donate $2 to Thread Together, a charitable organisation that delivers clothing to those who need it most. Your $2 donation gets subtracted from your first payment instalment.

When is Afterpay Day 2022?

The second official Afterpay Day sale kicks off at 8 am AEST on Thursday 18th of August 2022 and ends at midnight on Sunday 21st August (the first took place in March 2022). Afterpay Day deals will be available both online and in-store.

However, as has become custom in Australia, many retailers have begun their Afterpay Day sales early, so there has never been a better time to shop, whether it’s a last-minute Father’s Day gift, you want to get your Christmas gift shopping done early, or you just want to treat yourself.

How does Afterpay Day work?

Afterpay Day works just like any other promotional sale, in that there are big discounts to be taken advantage of across a range of product categories. And, while it is directly affiliated with Afterpay, you don’t need to pay with Afterpay in order to take advantage of the discounts.

Afterpay Day is more of a promotional event for the Afterpay service, with the appeal being that you can buy even more (because items are on sale) and then split the total payment into more manageable chunks.

You have a number of ways to save on Afterpay Day too. You can either go directly to the online stores of your favourite brands and navigate to their Afterpay Day section, or you can shop directly within the Afterpay app for iOS and Android.
