‘This Might Be The Most Neglected Muscle In The Fitness World’
‘This Might Be The Most Neglected Muscle In The Fitness World’

Online fitness coach Karl Bratland reckons the Serratus Anterior and Scap are super neglected muscles. To stop overlooking them, he recommends you do “scap push ups.”

Does your back need bulking, or do your sides need sculpting? Fitness coach Karl Bratland has the solution for you. Taking to Instagram recently, he posted a video showing how you can work out your Serratus Anterior and your Scap with one simple – but often neglected – movement.

In the video, a caption reads: “The most neglected muscle during exercise, the serratus anterior protracts your scapula and helps shoulders maintain their proper position. Scap push ups can help scapula winging, improve presses and overhead lifts, improve posture and prevent shoulder and neck injuries.”

Karl added further information in the caption of the video, writing: “This might be the most neglected muscle in the fitness world – the Serratus Anterior and Scap push-ups.”

“This muscle not only looks good (it’s the feather like muscles you see on people’s ribs) but it is essential for shoulder and scapula health.”

Karl added: “Most of us just do the big movements for a variety of reasons. However, we need to specifically train our smaller, accessory muscles because they’re super important as well. Without solid foundations, all of your lifts and activities will suffer.”

He finished with a provocative question: “Are you neglecting your accessory work?” If you are struggling to break through a plateau, perhaps it’s time to answer it.

The Kia Picanto GT Is, Pound For Pound, The Best Sports Car In Australia
The Kia Picanto GT Is, Pound For Pound, The Best Sports Car In Australia

In a world where cars are getting bigger and more boring, the Kia Picanto GT is a very small and very fun car that, while not a true ‘hot hatch’, offers plenty of piquancy and practicality for the discerning (and budget-conscious) motorist.

City cars have never really taken off in Australia. Even though 85% of all Aussies live in urban areas, Australia is still a big country, and while our collective taste in cars isn’t quite as supersized as our American cousins’, we tend to like big vehicles, too.

It’s a shame because as our cities become more and more crowded and petrol prices continue to climb, there’s much to be said for small, space and fuel-efficient cars.

That said, most city cars that have been sold in this country over the last two decades have been rather boring. With the exception of a few standouts like the wildly successful Fiat 500 (and its Abarth derivatives) or the short-lived Volkswagen Up, most city cars offered here have been mind-numbingly boring.

The Kia Picanto GT is a notable exception, however. Indeed, it’s so fun that we’d argue that pound for pound, it’s the best sports car in Australia. We mean that literally, by the way – it has a kerb weight of only 1,031kg…

A major use case for the Picanto GT: ultra-tight inner-city parking spaces. Image: Jamie Weiss/DMARGE

Like with many cars, numbers don’t tell the full story when it comes to the Kia Picanto GT. Case in point: its 1.0L turbocharged inline-three engine ‘only’ makes 74kW/174Nm and does 0-100km/h in 13.7 seconds. On paper, those are not impressive figures. So it’s a warm hatch as opposed to a hot one.

RELATED: The Audi S3 Is The Swiss Army Knife Of Sports Cars

But consider this: the Kia Picanto GT has a better power-to-weight ratio than a Mazda MX-5, Subaru WRX or the new Toyota GR Yaris – three sports cars that can hardly be said to be slouches, or boring to drive.

One number that does tell a good story is its price tag. With pricing starting at a paltry AU$20,490, to say that it’s a good buy would be to make the understatement of the century. Indeed, it’s over $8,000 cheaper than the next most expensive car in the segment, the Suzuki Swift Sport.

And for your money, you not only get a whopping 7-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty but a car that boasts a fit and finish better than most luxury cars. Seriously. I drove one of these things for a week and I have to say, the quality of the interior in the Picanto GT looks, feels and is put together better than some cars five or ten times its price.

The Kia Picanto GT’s interior is positively premium. Image: Jamie Weiss/DMARGE

Despite being so titchy, it’s also a rather comfy and spacious place to be in; Kia has really nailed the packing with this one. The infotainment system is great with phones connecting to it quickly, the steering wheel is thin but solid-feeling, the seats are comfortable, even for a tall, stocky bastard like me… I also love the way it looks, with its nice smattering of red highlights and modern, angular design.

But what’s it like to drive, Jamie? I’m glad you asked.

Simply put, it’s a gem. Its boxy design with wheels on each corner of the car means it’s got go-kart-like handling, just like a classic Mini. Steering input is direct and smooth, and the 5-speed gearbox is notchy and effective, with a predictable and reassuring clutch bite point. The exhaust note is surprisingly buff – you can even get a bit of turbo flutter if you really punch it.

RELATED: Your Next Eco-Friendly Car Should Be A Mini

Is it perfect? No. From 0-50, it’s really fast and torquey, but then it quickly becomes a bit gutless at higher speeds – it’s not a natural highway cruiser. While it does have an upshift indicator, it’s entirely geared towards fuel economy and tells you to shift way too early. The fairly upright driving position will also be a bit of a headfake for drivers used to lower-slung, longer vehicles, too.

Masculine yet minuscule. The Picanto GT could just about fit in the tray of the 70 Series Toyota Land Cruiser next to it in this photo… Image: Jamie Weiss/DMARGE

But in the grand scheme of things, these issues aren’t dealbreakers. For a car this affordable and this small, you have to make some compromises somewhere. It’s just remarkable how few compromises you have to make with this car… I don’t know how Kia does it for the money.

In my opinion, the Kia Picanto GT is both a head and heart purchase, which is really what a hot hatch should be. It’s both highly practical as well as incredibly fun; a car that rewards enthusiasts and will challenge your expectations of what a city car can be. I had so much fun with this car, and I know you will too.

Who Is Justin Bieber? Teen Popstar To Global Megastar

Justin Bieber has been a household name since he blew up as a mop-haired youngster with the hit Baby, released in 201. Since then, he’s continued to make headlines (for good and bad reasons), but there’s a lot more to him than just news captions. Read on to find out everything you need to know about Justin Bieber.

Who Is Justin Bieber?

Justin Bieber is a Canadian singer and songwriter who took the world by storm when he was 16 after his hit single ‘Baby’ gathered interest and recognition all around the world. He’s now one of the most famous singers in the world and has set records for music continually over the last decade.

Justin Bieber Music

@justinbieber

Justin began playing music when he was young, teaching himself how to play drums, piano, guitar and trumpet. He then began competing in singing competitions, with his mother posting footage of the events on YouTube for friends and family to see.

These videos were found by music promoter and talent Scott Braun accidentally while he was trying to find another singer’s music. Braun then invited 13-year-old Bieber to record some demos with him, where he met Usher, who helped him sign a record contract in late 2008.

His debut album “My World” was a hit and earned Bieber the title of the first artist to have seven singles from a debut album on the Billboard Hot 100. From there, he’s managed to continuously chart in his music and has collaborated with musicians such as Drake, will.i.am, Skrillex, Diplo and Post Malone.

His US album and single sales are estimated to be north of 100 million and worldwide over 150 million, which makes him one of the best-selling artists in the world.

Justin Bieber Controversy

Bieber has been fairly controversial during his rise to fame. From scuffles and DUIs to saying he was going to quit music, he’s managed to ruffle a few feathers on his way.

Maybe most notably in 2014 when he was attacked by Orlando Bloom in an Ibiza nightclub. The conflict reportedly occurred after Bieber said, “She was good” about Bloom’s ex-wife Miranda Kerr.

He was also arrested the same year in Miami for DUI and resisting arrest (which led to more than 270 000 people signing a petition to the White House trying to get him deported) and later charged with vandalism after throwing eggs at his neighbour’s house.

Besides this, fans were left a little unsure how to feel after footage of him spitting toward his fans from a hotel roof, footage of him peeing in a mop bucket at a restaurant and a message he left in the Anne Frank House which read, “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully, she would have been a belieber.”

Justin Bieber Wife & Relationships

@justinbieber

Justin Bieber has been associated with a huge list of girls, so it’s hard to say who he has and hasn’t had relationships with in the past, but his most well-known supposed (or confirmed) relationships include Miranda Kerr, Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez.

However, he’s now a married man after tying the knot with Hailey Baldwin in September 2018. The pair first met back in 2009, introduced by the model’s father and actor Stephen Baldwin (brother of Alec).

What is Justin Bieber’s Net Worth?

Justin Bieber’s net worth is a cool $285 million (according to CelebrityNetWorth). With more than 150 million record sales worldwide, it’s not hard to imagine where his huge fortune has come from.

A documentary concert film of him called ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ made over $73 million – the most ever made for that kind of film.

With this wealth, Bieber has bought himself a home worth $25.8 million in Beverly Hills, with neighbours like Denzel Washington and Eddie Murphy, as well as a lakeside house in Ontario. He also bought Hailey Baldwin an engagement ring worth about half a million dollars.

Justin Bieber Tattoos

@justinbieber

Justin Bieber has in excess of 60 tattoos on his body, with his first coming when he was just 16 years old. The vast majority of Justin’s tattoos relate to religion, such as having a small cross near his right eye. Other tattoos on Bieber’s body mirror those of his wife, Hailey.

Justin has another larger cross in the centre of his chest to signify his faith in God. He also has a bear and a lion tattooed on each pec and a large eagle on his abdomen. Other tattoos include a depiction of Jesus Christ on his arm, some angel wings on the back of his neck, and a reading from Psalm 119:105 which reads, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

Bieber also has tattoos of the names of his albums on various places on his body.

Justin Bieber Cars

Some of Justin’s insane wealth is spent on a seriously enviable car collection, which includes such motors as a custom Rolls-Royce and a Lamborghini Urus SUV. Unfortunately for the pop singer, Ferrari has blacklisted him after he customised his 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia F1 Edition with a Liberty Walk body kit.

Justin Bieber Haircuts

As with a number of celebrities in the public eye, Justin Bieber has changed his hairstyle on numerous occasions. Beginning with an on-trend mop hairstyle when he burst onto the scene, Justin has opted for shorter haircuts throughout the rest of his career. You can find a full round-up of Justin Bieber’s haircuts, here.

Justin Bieber Australia Tour

Justin Bieber is coming to Australia in November and December 2022 for the Justice World Tour. The dates and venues are as follows:

Jimmy Carr Says Jokes Aren’t Punches, They’re Tickles
Jimmy Carr Says Jokes Aren’t Punches, They’re Tickles

Comedian Jimmy Carr recently suggested we rethink “what jokes are,” explaining, in his estimation, his jokes aren’t about punching, but instead about “tickling.”

Many people assume comedians like Jimmy Carr are void of a conscience. Empty vessels just there to entertain, humiliate, and trample. But during a recent appearance on the Betoota Advocate podcast, Carr said there’s more to him than that (though he does love a good old evisceration).

This insight came when Carr was asked about “dummy spits.” Specifically, the host of the podcast asked: “In these roast environments – in these live shows – I know a lot of your audience is thick-skinned… do you relish it? Do you think, when you hit that nerve, do you go ‘ok I’ve poked the bear and ok, I’m going to poke it again?’ How do you navigate that game?”

Carr replied: “It’s less combative than the question suggests. When you think about what jokes are – in my estimation they’re not ever punching; it’s tickling.” Carr continued: “If the person isn’t laughing, if they don’t get the joke… I mean fair enough, if there’s a drunk guy at a show or a drunk woman at a show it’s like you might just eviscerate that person and the rest of the audience can laugh and they’re not laughing and they get escorted from the building.”

“That occasionally happens and I won’t lie, it’s a lot of fun when it does, but more often than not it’s someone with the same sense of humour as you that would love to be on stage and they’re trying to say something funny.”

Jimmy Carr

“Sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t and it’s fun. It’s like a fun thing. People get it. So if someone has a sense of humour [failure?] at one of my shows I guess they’re getting kicked out.” He was then asked if he had any plans to retire any time soon, to which he replied: “You’re dreaming” and “the guy that attacked Dave Chappelle is going to have to do a better job on me.”

Further comments Carr made during the podcast included comparing political correctness in comedy to “health and safety at a rodeo” and making the observation that “the idea I would change my show, to please people who aren’t at the show” is absurd.

“You can laugh about anything, but not with anybody.”

Jimmy Carr

Illustrating this point, and making the point that (he hopes) game recognises game, Carr told The Betoota Advocate about the time he made a pretty heavy joke about Pete Davidson’s dad (which seemed to be received as a tickle, not a punch).

On top of that, Carr revealed he loves hecklers, because if they fail, it makes him look good, and if they succeed (and actually roast him), he still gets paid for their good work (“as long as people are laughing I don’t give a f*ck who said the funny thing”).

“I got 300 lines in and the audience got one.”

Jimmy Carr

He also said a lot of comedians don’t feel like they belong, and feel like they are an ‘other,’ which is why they became comedians, advising the Betoota crew, the next time they interview a comedian: “Ask them why they didn’t think they belong, because none of us think we belong.”

He also said: “Ask them which one of their parents was sick [because] it’s not universal but most comics… one of their parents had either a mental or physical problem and they had to make things ok within the house and then that becomes something your personality is built around – making people laugh and making people feel better.”

Carr, who calls himself the enemy of scalpers (due to how many shows he’s putting on) is touring Australia next year.

John Wick 4 Release Date Australia, Rumours, Cast & Trailer
John Wick 4 Release Date Australia, Rumours, Cast & Trailer

After three films that were all critically acclaimed and box-office successes, the fourth John Wick film is almost here. The release date for John Wick: Chapter 4 has finally been announced so here’s everything you need to know before it hits Australian theatres.

John Wick 4 Release Date

John Wick: Chapter 4 will be released in Australia, on the 24th of March 2023.

Trailer

We finally have our first look at what to expect from John Wick: Chapter 4, as the first official trailer (or rather, a “sneak peek”) was released on 24th July 2022, which you can check out below.

As expected, it’s full of fight scenes, including sword fights, gun fights and even an axe that appears to get thrown at some unfortunate soul. We hear someone in a voiceover telling John “even you can’t kill anybody,” so we suspect the premise of the film will see John Wick prove them wrong.

John Wick 4 Cast & Crew

Keanu Reeves is, of course, reprising the titular role, John Wick for the fourth time in John Wick: Chapter 4. Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne and Lance Reddick are also reprising their roles from previous John Wick films as Winston, the Manager of the Continental Hotel, The Bowery King, and Charon, the concierge at the Continental Hotel, respectively.

Director of the first three John Wick films, Chad Stahelski is also returning to direct the fourth John Wick, however, Derek Kolstad, who wrote the first three John Wick’s did not return to write the fourth film. Instead, John Wick: Chapter 4 has been written by Shay Hatten — who contributed to the screenplay for John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum — and Michael Finch.

There’s been no announcement of whether Halle Berry or Angelica Houston will reprise their roles from the third John Wick film but newcomers Hiroyuki Sanada, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Shamier Anderson, Scott Adkins and Clancy Brown have been confirmed as cast members for John Wick 4.

The Plot

Sadly, next to no details about John Wick: Chapter 4’s plot have been announced but if you’ve seen the third film, it seems quite clear what John Wick will do next.

[Warning: spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum ahead]

In the last film in the John Wick franchise, Winston, played by McShane, re-swears his loyalty to the High Table and shoots John, played by Reeves. The gunshots make John fall off the rooftop he’s on, but it’s revealed in the final moments that he was saved and then delivered to the Bowery King, played by Fishburne. The two agree to team up and take on the High Table.

Therefore, it seems pretty obvious that John Wick: Chapter 4 will focus on John and the Bowery King going after and killing all members of the High Table as well as, presumably, Winston after his betrayal.

One thing is for certain about John Wick 4’s plot: there won’t be a “happy ending”. Director Stahelski revealed to IndieWire in 2019 that no John Wick film will give the titular character a happily ever after, such as, retired at home with a pet dog, like at the beginning of the first John Wick — John will either die or always be on the run.

“John may survive all this shit, but at the end of it, there’s no happy ending. He’s got nowhere to go.”

What The Critics & Reviews Say

John Wick: Chapter 4 is still in post-production, so it’s not surprising that no one’s seen a final cut of the film yet; let alone had a chance to review it. However, fans on Twitter are desperate to see the fourth John Wick as soon as they can.

Dan Bilzerian Married? Internet Reacts To Secret French Wedding

Dan Bilzerian has social media users speculating wildly, after posting a photo of himself and a partner walking down the aisle in The French Riviera.

Dan Bilzerian has taken a break from promoting his weed brand and showing off his rig in the Maldives to send the rumour mill into overdrive.

How so? He just posted a photo of himself and a partner walking down the aisle at a wedding in the south of France. The photo, which lacked any context beyond a ‘French Riviera’ geotag and the caption: “I finally did it,” sees Bilzerian wearing a suit and bowtie, strolling down the aisle with a woman in a green dress and carrying a bouquet of flowers.

Theories are currently running rampant, and they range from the mundane (“you finally wore pants?”) to the conspiratorial (see: “no way,” “lies” and “ain’t no way bruh”). Other Instagram users made remarks like “thank god, less competition” and “congratulations on going to a wedding.”

Rumour mill in overdrive… Images via Instagram

My take? Bilzerian’s probably at someone else’s wedding but enjoying the opportunity to spectacularly troll his 32.9 million Instagram followers. C’est la vie, I guess.

Who Is Travers Beynon? The Australian Candyman
Who Is Travers Beynon? The Australian Candyman

Travers Beynon is an Australian businessman, husband, father and playboy who lives on the Gold Coast and could well be Australia’s best answer to Dan Bilzerian. He also lives in what he has dubbed “The Candy Shop Mansion,” with his wife, children and girlfriends and has earned himself the nickname “The Candy Man.”

So, who is Travers Beynon, what is his net worth, who is his wife and what exactly goes on in his house? Read on to find out.

Travers Beynon Quick Facts

Name: Travers Luke Beynon
Age: 50
DoB: 6 March 1972
Nationality: Australian
Height: 6 ft 0 in / 1.83m
Weight: 87kg (estimated)
Net Worth: $200 million (estimated)
Instagram: @traversbeynonofficial – 302k followers, @candyshopmansion – 790k followers

Who Is Travers Beynon?

Travers Beynon is an Australian businessman who was born in Melbourne, Australia to parents Trevor and Sandra Beynon on the 6th of March 1972. His parents founded Freechoice Australia, which is now the leading tobacconist franchise in Australia with 294 stores nationwide. Travers now runs the company as Managing Director.

Travers is said to have attended Clairvaux College in Brisbane and played AFL (Australian Rules Football), eventually joining the Southport Sharks Football Club on the Gold Coast. Travers was signed by the North Melbourne Kangaroos for the 1989 season, but a back injury saw him sit out the entire season. After a move to the Brisbane Lions, Travers decided to retire from AFL, due to his injury.

After a brief modelling career, Travers took over management of Freechoice and his lavish lifestyle took off in a big way.

The Candy Shop Mansion

Travis Beynon’s Candy Shop Mansion can be found at 36 River Cove Place, Helensvale, an exclusive gated community of 33 luxury homes. Travers bought the home in 2010 and at the time, it featured 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. He bought a neighbouring section in 2014 and set to work on a three-year renovation production.

The Candy Shop Mansion now features 15 bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, 4 kitchens, a ballroom, gym, gentlemen’s club, 15 seat cinema, pool, steam room and solarium.

According to Travers’ official website, The Candy Shop Mansion was named as such because “when you create a party palace and mega-mansion for your family that is all about entertaining and the sweeter things in life then why not call home “The Candy Shop Mansion” (“Candy” synonymous with the sweet things in life).”

The Candy Shop Mansion throws regular parties and is the permanent residence of Travers, his wife and family, and all his girlfriends, so there are girls in bikinis roaming the grounds on a regular basis.

Think of it as the Australian Playboy Mansion, if you will.

Travers Beynon Wife & Family

Image: @traversbeynonofficial

Travers Beynon is married to his wife Taesha Beynon and he is a father to four children. Two children he had from a previous marriage (and he now has sole custody) and his two youngest have Taesha as their mother.

Girlfriends

Travers also has a number of girlfriends that live in the Candy Shop Mansion with him, and he even has a contact form on his website for aspiring women to apply to be a live-in girlfriend (and who said chivalry was dead?).

Owing to the age we live in, Travers says “to become a girlfriend is not much different than a new courtship between any other 2 people. After submitting the application Travers will make initial contact via Instagram.” Because most people meet on social media these days, right?

There are strict criteria you must fulfil to become one of Travers’ girlfriends, which state that “not only must you be attractive to be considered as a girlfriend, but you must be fun, bubbly, out-going, spontaneous, adventurous and respectful to everyone.”

Image: @candyshopmansion

According to LadBible there are also strict rules Travers instils when living in the mansion, with the most important being that everyone gets along as a family,

“We have a compulsory family dinner on Sunday nights with everyone and we all sit down we fill two large tables and I take everyone’s mobile phones and put them in another room,” he says.

“We get takeaway because it’s our one night takeaway we all sit there – the young kids, the older kids, the girlfriends, the wife.”

And, owing up to his playboy lifestyle, Travers, his wife and his girlfriends all engage in various ‘bedroom antics’ together. He told LadBible, “She [his wife, Taesha] remembers one point where it just turned sexual and about 10 to 12 girls all jumped on me. And my wife told me that she couldn’t actually see me under the pile of girls, she said it was almost like I was being eaten alive.”

Travers Beynon Net Worth

Travers Beynon’s net worth is an estimated $200 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The majority of his wealth comes from the Freechoice tobacco franchise, which turns over revenue of around $250 million per year.

Travers Beynon Cars

Naturally, being a multi-millionaire means Travers owns a rather enviable car collection. His first car purchase was a Ferrari F430 and since then, he as added several more. Travers’ car collection includes:

  • Ferrari F430
  • Lamborghini Aventadorr
  • Bentley Continental Flying Spur
  • Rolls Royce Wraith
  • Mercedes AMG G63
  • Audi Q7

Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Mercedes and more Ferraris to his collection.

He also owns a cigarette boat with two 1,000hp engines, that received a complete refurbishment, including a brand new paint job and ‘The Candy Man’ emblazoned all over. You can watch a video of the refurbishment project, here.

The Best IWC Schaffhausen Watches To Buy In 2022
The Best IWC Schaffhausen Watches To Buy In 2022

The world of high-end watches is full of well-respected brands with illustrious histories. IWC (which stands for International Watch Company) is one such brand with a history that’s particularly worth looking into – as well as brand that produces some seriously high-quality watches.

The company was founded in the Swiss town of Schaffhausen in 1868 by an American watchmaker, Florentine Ariosto Jones. Jones wanted to combine Swiss traditional watchmaking knowledge and expertise with modern American manufacturing practices. It was thanks to a chance meeting with Johann Heinrich Moser – who not only supported Jones’ vision but had built his own hydropower plant in Schaffhausen – that Jones found the vital element needed to power the high-tech equipment he needed to use in order to produce his watches. Jones then moved to a new factory, still on the Rhine river, to accommodate the growing number of staff.

The brand started out making pocket watches, before expanding into wristwatches for men and women. During WWII, IWC made pilot’s observation watches, which they supplied to both Allied and Axis air forces.

These days, IWC is known for their innovative use of titanium and ceramics, but it wasn’t until 1974 when a huge rise in gold prices and a major drop in the value of the Swiss Franc against the US Dollar, that forced IWC to switch to using titanium as a material – a first in watchmaking – a practice it still continues to this day. Today, IWC makes a conscious effort to be as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible and was voted number one in a group of 15 Swiss-based watch manufacturers for its environmental rating.

IWC remains one of the most forward-thinking and desirable luxury watchmakers on the planet, thanks to their high level of craftsmanship, distinctive design and long history.

We’ve rounded up 11 of our favourite pieces to help you buy the perfect men’s IWC watch.

Big Pilot’s Watch 43

IWC Schaffhausen Big Pilot’s Watch 43 (ref. IW329301)

Reference Number: IW329301
Case Material: Stainless Steel
Price: AU$12,900

First introduced in 2022 and modelled after the observation watches IWC produced for multiple air forces during WWII, the Big Pilot is IWC’s most famous watch and a bona fide horological icon. In 2021, IWC overhauled the popular watch, introducing a new 43mm case size as well as the new EasX-CHANGE strap system, which enables wearers to quickly and easily change the strap and adapt the watch swiftly to different surroundings or activities. Powered by the 60-hour power reserve IWC calibre 82100 movement, it also boasts a sapphire crystal caseback and a distinctive conical crown, which is designed in such a way so that it is easy to use while wearing gloves.

Pilot’s Watch Automatic Spitfire

IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Automatic Spitfire (ref. IW326801)

Reference Number: IW326801
Case Material: Stainless Steel
Price: AU$7,750

This Pilot’s Watch Automatic Spitfire pays homage to the Pilot’s Watch Mark 11 released in 1948. That model essentially paved the way for how all pilot’s watches should look, and this modern-day Automatic Spitfire remains true to the design philosophy of a highly legible dial. Despite its historic roots and aesthetic, there’s nothing historic about the internal components, as this is the first watch to use IWC’s in-house 32110 calibre, which has a power reserve of three days. Add to that an inner iron-made case to protect it from magnetic interference and a green NATO strap that gives it oodles of military appeal.

Portugieser Automatic 40

IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser Automatic 40 (ref. IW358306)

Reference Number: IW358306
Case Material: 18ct 5N Red Gold
Price: AU$24,900

IWC created the Portugieser family in response to the request of two Portuguese merchants who asked IWC to make them a large and precise wristwatch in the 1930s. They wanted it to meet nautical chronometer standards, but for it to also be oversized, which meant IWC had to resort to using a pocket watch movement. The Portugieser was born, and while it may be smaller than some of IWC’s other models at 40mm, its thin bezel accentuates its size. Because of its nautical-led design, it features feuille hands, a railway track chapter ring for precise time reading and for this particular model, minutes and seconds chronograph dials.

One of the highlight releases of Watches & Wonders 2022, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Edition “Woodland” might be a bit of a mouthful but it’s perhaps the best green watch ever made. Not only is the Woodland’s case made out of 100% dark green ceramic, but its dial is also dark green, while its numerals and hour markers are printed in a lighter hue of green. It also has a matching green textile/rubber strap, whilst other hardware elements such as the chrono pushers, crown and back case are made out of matte black Ceratanium, IWC’s signature scratch-resistant, ultra-tough titanium/ceramic composite.

It’s this school that inspired the famous Tom Cruise film of the same name. TOPGUN’s job is all about staying ahead of the competition, and appropriately, the TOP GUN collection is home to IWC’s most innovative watches.

Portofino Chronograph

IWC Schaffhausen Portofino Chronograph (ref. IW391030)

Reference Number: IW391030
Case Material: Stainless Steel
Price: AU$10,500

And now for avery different style of chronograph… Named after the small Italian fishing village, IWC launched the Portofino in 1984, as a “pocket-watch-style wristwatch”. A dress watch through and through, the Portofino replaces Arabic numerals found on watches such as its Pilot family and replaces them with Roman numerals. The chronograph version uses IWC’s self-winding 75320 calibre with a 44-hour power reserve, and completing the luxurious and elegant look is a steel Milanese bracelet.

Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph TOP GUN Ceratanium

IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph TOP GUN Ceratanium (ref. IW371815)

Reference Number: IW371815
Case Material: Ceratanium
Price: AU$21,500

This Pilot’s Watch makes use of IWC’s proprietary Ceratanium material, which combines the lightness and rigidity of titanium with the wear-free and scratch-resistant properties of ceramic. One of the byproducts of the marriage is a matte black colour, which IWC has used not only for the case but for the push-buttons and pin buckle too. An additional split-seconds hand is what makes this a double chronograph, which allows the wearer to record intermediate times, or two separate actions simultaneously.

Pilot’s Watch Timezoner TOP GUN Ceratanium

IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Timezoner TOP GUN Ceratanium (ref. IW395505)

Reference Number: IW395505
Case Material: Ceratanium
Price: AU$26,500

The IWC Pilot’s Watch Timezoner TOP GUN Ceratanium is easily one of the most unique and interesting luxury timepieces on the planet. Also made out of Ceratanium, its Timezoner function is a radical take on the world timer formula. It works like this: first, push down on the bezel, rotate it to your home time zone, and set the time and date using the crown as per normal. Then, when you’re off travelling and you arrive in a new time zone, rotate the bezel to the corresponding city, and the time will adjust accordingly. It’s a really clever way of telling the time in multiple time zones without having to mess around with the crown and constantly setting the time.

Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Darwin”

IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Expedition Charles Darwin” (ref. IW379503)

Reference Number: IW379503
Case Material: Bronze
Price: AU$16,000

IWC made a deliberate design move when choosing the bronze material for this Aquatimer’s case, as pays homage to the HMS Beagle, the ship that Charles Darwin navigated to the Galapagos Islands. It’s also a material that patinas over time – an oxidised layer that naturally forms as a result of exposure to air, sun, salt and other pollutants – so each individual model will develop its own unique look. IWC has designed this version to be able to accompany you on various expeditions too, as it features a SafeDive ‘compressor’ system (whereby an outer bezel which rotates an inner bezel) as well as a water-resistant rating of 300 metres.

Da Vinci Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph

IWC Schaffhausen Da Vinci Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph (ref. IW393101)

Reference Number: IW393101
Case Material: 18ct 5N Red Gold
Price: AU$158,000

The Da Vinci collection is home to some of IWC’s most classical and ornate watches, and this model is among the collection’s most ornate. A large tourbillon takes pride of place at 6 o’clock, with a chronograph subdial at 12 o’clock and a retrograde date display at 9 o’clock. This display, which stretches along a gentle arc on the left-hand side of the dial, has a hand that jumps back automatically to the 1st of the month after the 31st of the previous month. This large red gold piece is a real statement.

Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph

IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph (ref. IW390507)

Reference Number: IW390507
Case Material: Stainless Steel
Price: AU$17,700

A sportier take on the Portugieser, there are four variations of the Yacht Club Chronograph (we really love the 18ct gold model) but this stainless steel and blue dial version is still incredibly alluring and more accessible thanks to its more affordable price tag. It makes use of IWC’s 89361 movement, which has a 68-hour power reserve and a flyback function, meaning you don’t need to stop the chronograph before resetting it. You can also use it to measure short and long stop times thanks to a quarter-second scale and an analogue sub-dial, respectively, while its luminescent hands and indices make their only appearance in the Portugieser family. To further enforce its sporting credentials, the Yacht Club Chronograph swaps out a leather strap for a rubberised version.

IWC Watches FAQ

How to spot a fake IWC watch?

One easy way to check if an IWC is fake is that genuine IWC watches have sapphire crystals guarding the face (and sometimes the caseback) of the watch. To check, smear a drop of water or two on the surface. If it is sapphire glass, water will pool together. If the water disperses unevenly, it is a knock-off made with plain glass.

How to care for your IWC watch?

To keep your IWC watch looking great, a microfibre cloth is probably all you'll need. For leather straps, apply a small amount of leather cream every so often to keep the leather supple. Make sure you regularly service your IWC watch with either IWC itself or with a reputable watchmaker.

Which IWC watch is the most popular?

The Big Pilot's Watch is IWC's most popular and famous watch family.

Who wears IWC watches?

IWC is a favourite of celebrities such as Bradley Cooper, Chris Evans, Guy Sebastian, Jamie Foxx and The Rock. Some of IWC's celebrity brand ambassadors include Emma McKeon, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and Tom Brady.

What does IWC stand for?

IWC stands for 'International Watch Company'. The company is based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

Jetstar ‘Barf Bag’ Hack For In-Flight Entertainment Goes Viral
Jetstar ‘Barf Bag’ Hack For In-Flight Entertainment Goes Viral

Various videos are doing the rounds on TikTok, showing you how to use a barf bag to get hours of free in-flight entertainment.

On some airlines, in-flight entertainment is a given. On others, it’s something you either pay for or is not an option at all. Unless, of course, you have savvy command of your phone case and a barf bag.

That’s right, as shown by TikTok user melissa.rae1, it’s possible to hang your phone horizontally from the seat in front of you, and use it as a makeshift TV, using an in-flight barf bag. This works in a similar fashion to the good old-fashioned ziplock bag hack, except – because you are using a paper bag, not a see-through one – you have to be a little smarter.

Melissa isn’t the only one showing the good citizens of the Internet how to do this. There is advice on how to make your own free in-flight entertainment on Reddit too.

WATCH: how to create your own ‘free’ in-flight entertainment system

As seen in the viral video by @melissa.rae1 (the video has, at the time of writing, been viewed 1.4 million times), the first step is to take the phone case off your phone. Next; put the top bit of the barf bag into the case. After this, put your phone back into the case, so that the top bit of the barf bag gets trapped. Finally, open your tray table, slide the bottom part of the barf bag down inside it, and shut it again, trapping the bottom part of the barf bag inside the tray table.

Even Jetstar Australia weighed in, promising this hack will not be necessary in the future (on some flights)… Image via TikTok

Mission complete – you now have your very own free in-flight entertainment system, limited only by your phone’s memory and battery. All you need to do now is learn how to avoid excess baggage fees with this genius pillow case hack, how to score free accommodation all around the world by being a pet sitter and how to sneak into the first class bathrooms ‘as an economy passenger…

The world’s your oyster.
