17 Men’s T-Shirt Brands For Those Who Want To Be The King Of Casual Cool
17 Men’s T-Shirt Brands For Those Who Want To Be The King Of Casual Cool

No menswear item is arguably more essential than the men’s t-shirt. The versatility and relative affordability of the great t-shirts for men means they can be worn in countless ways, and in virtually any scenario, although the cocktail dress code may be a bit of a stretch.

With that said, the rules of how to wear t-shirts are rather simple. Start with the basic colours like white, black, grey and navy and you’ll have solid foundations for a versatile wardrobe, being able to pair them with just about anything from jackets to knitwear to hoodies to blazers to collared shirts. Once you’ve nailed that you can start playing around with prints, patterns, detailing and materials to really establish your own personal look.

When it comes to buying men’s t-shirts, however, it’s not just as simple as going into a store, picking some up and walking away. At least, not if you don’t want to have to keep making repeat trips due to your chosen best t-shirts not being of good quality, or the correct fit.

Finding the best t-shirts for men online

With most brands from budget right through to designer labels sourcing their men’s t-shirts – or at least, the cotton to make their t-shirts – from China and other major regions of clothing manufacture, determining the quality of your t-shirts isn’t always the easiest of tasks.

Fortunately, you have DMARGE on your side, and here are our top tips regarding what to look out for next time you go t-shirt shopping.

The Fabric

  • A men’s t-shirt’s softness will be indicated by the number of natural fibres used. This information can usually be found on the label. Obviously, you can just feel the t-shirt, but let it be known that a super soft t-shirt in-store may diminish after a few washes.
  • Those after quality should lookout for a 100% cotton tee, especially if you’re in the market for printed men’s t-shirts, as the prints will tend to display better on them.
  • A jersey t-shirt is also a fantastic option. You’ll guaranteed stretch and comfort, as well as breathability with a jersey t-shirt.
  • Blended synthetic tees (usually those on the more budget end of the scale) have the issue of ageing at a different rate to pure 100% materials, and this may tarnish the look slightly.
  • Full polyester t-shirts, on the other hand, will be terrible for moisture-wicking sweat from your body and breathability on the whole. They are, however, better for water resistance, so choose materials based on your requirements.
  • Bear in mind that a 100% cotton t-shirt doesn’t necessarily mean high quality as there is both low-end and high-end cotton; try to go for organic cotton, Supima cotton, cotton jersey, or slub cotton.

The Weave

A tighter weave will mean your t-shirt will last longer, being able to retain its quality following multiple wears and washes. One misconception of a tighter weave is that it will equate to a heavier t-shirt, yet this isn’t the case, as a t-shirt’s fabric density is independent of the t-shirt’s weight or thickness.

With regards to the weight of a t-shirt, this information should also be displayed on the label, and will most commonly be measured in ounces (Oz) or grams per square metre (GSM). The higher the number, the heavier the t-shirt, with the heaviest weight you can expect to find being around 300gsm, making it more suitable for colder months.

If it’s a short sleeve men’s t-shirt for Summer you’re after, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for t-shirts in the 130-150gsm range, as these fabrics will be lighter and cooler.

The Stitching Quality

Stitching quality is a tell-tale sign of a men’s t-shirt’s quality. Look out for any loose threads as a sign of poor construction. A higher stitch count also means the garment should be stronger and will last longer. Stitching at the seams is also an important factor to consider when it comes to the amount of stretch your t-shirt is able to undergo.

If you want a t-shirt to have some stretch to it so that it feels more comfortable during wear, then the stitching will also need to stretch with the fabric. You don’t want to be in a situation when you need to swing your arms, for example, and find that the stitching holding the sleeves to the main body prevent you from achieving your full range of movement.

Different Fits And Styles

There’s an array of fits and styles of men’s tees, but the most classic style is a slim fit crew neck t-shirt. However, you can get a relaxed fit if you want something super comfortable. You can get a regular fit if you’re uncomfortable with having a t-shirt cling to you like a slim fit, but you don’t want it to swamp you like a relaxed fit.

If you’re not fond of the crew neck t-shirt because it feels restrictive around your neck, you can go for a scoop neck or a v neck. You can also get a pocket tee if you like having a little extra storage for your everyday essentials. We recommend getting short sleeves but also at least one long sleeve tee, so you’re covered for cooler weather.

The best men’s t-shirt is what you feel comfortable in; so decide what style you like best in terms of both comfort and aesthetic. Whether you’re looking for a crewneck tee, v-neck tee, or scoop neck tee, long-sleeve t-shirt or short sleeve t-shirt, these are the brands for men to know if you want the best men’s t-shirts on the market, in your wardrobe.

Post Malone’s Secret To Looking Taller Is Back & It’s Wilder Than Ever
Post Malone’s Secret To Looking Taller Is Back & It’s Wilder Than Ever

He’s credited for championing the job-stopper face tattoo but for Post Malone, life has been a bit under the radar since the American rapper’s been focusing mainly on his music and gigs.

That all changed this week with the impending arrival of Malone’s upcoming album announcement. To mark this occasion the 24-year-old step into Jimmy Fallon and he did it with his usual penchant for a wildly eclectic wardrobe.

Spotted in New York en route to the show, Malone rocked a full matching short sleeved collared shirt and trousers with all-over Greek mythology print. The outfit resembled more of a jumpsuit for retired artists but on Malone it simply fitting of his personality.

And the issue of appearing taller? Well given that Malone is already 1.84m tall, we still wonder why he rocks Cuban heeled shoes, the footwear credited for making men appear taller (Tom Cruise does it all the time).

Malone paired his Greek mythology outfit with light brown suede Cuban heels which reveals exactly how much extra height is added. Men who want to appear taller don’t need to go this high on the Cuban heel since it’s all down to personal preference.

Once on the show Malone switched out his casual look for an all-out sartorial winner in the form of an immaculately tailored check navy suit. Pay attention to the sharp detailing like the collar bar, pocket square and rose gold watch. It appears there’s nothing Post Malone can’t do. Even looking taller. Take a bow, rock star.

James Bond’s Submarine Lotus Esprit Is On Sale In Australia For A Steal
James Bond’s Submarine Lotus Esprit Is On Sale In Australia For A Steal

Bond fans will blush at the unmistakable lines of this car which first graced the big screen in 1977’s ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ with the late Roger Moore behind the wheel. Back then it was loveably known as ‘Wet Nellie’, the Bond car in the shape of a Lotus Esprit S1 which could submerge at the press of a button. It also fired torpedos at helicopters but this particular example missed out on that dealer option.

It does however serve as the closest vehicle to the original Bond car in Australia right now. This 1978 Lotus Esprit S2 asking just AU$49,500 is the updated model of the film’s 1977 Lotus Esprit S1. The only differences include intake and cooling ducts added behind the rear quarter windows, taillights from the Rover SD1, and an integrated front spoiler. Other differences are mainly minor interior cosmetics. But enough about the walk down memory lane.

This 1978 Lotus Esprit with a five-speed manual transmission appears to be a true classic that’s been fairly well looked after over four decades. The seller notes that the car has received a full service alongside a complete overhaul with rego and a Queensland Safety Certificate pass.

Finished in a very slick Calypso Red with gold trim, the Esprit is powered by a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated in-line four engine which produces 160hp (around 120kW). It might not sound like much by today’s standards but bear in mind this car weighs just 900kg so the fun factor is definitely there for the taking.

For those still concerned about the car’s history, the seller has listed an impressive list of work conducted over the restoration. This includes:

  • Rebuilt engine with new pistons, rings and cylinder liners (engine has done less than 5,000km)
  • New Lotus head, valves and double-set springs
  • Refurbished brake callipers, new pistons, brake lines and discs
  • Incorporation of all Lotus service bulletins
  • Restored leather interior, new headlining, cockpit lining and new fitted carpets
  • Dashboard is original marcasite
  • Complete body restoration — fully stripped and painted with showroom quality two pack paint, new trim and new door seals
  • New timing belt, water pump and fuel pump
  • Workshop manual
  • Safety certificate

Work receipts are also included for the most meticulous of collectors. Sound like your piece of rare buy? Slide over to the Carsales link now to lock it in. Submersible function not included.

Or in his words, motivation for the haters.Don’t believe us? Just check out undefeated world boxing champion’s Instagram. Mayweather began innocently captioning his timepiece alongside a portrait of himself wearing the watch. First came the Richard Mille RM 59-01 Tourbillon Yohan Blake which retails for US$620,000.

And finally we reach the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore. The closest variant to this we could find online is the chronograph version which currently retails for US$1,345,000. Price is self explanatory on Mayweather’s version.

In another odd flex, Mayweather has also previously laid out his riches across the table alongside two stacks of cash he’s casually counting. Not the most subtle of wealthy men but easily the most outrageously entertaining. The watch he’s wearing in this last clip is one we reported on last year which costs US$18 million.

Now the only question remains: If you had this man’s wealth would you actually buy any of those watches he owns? We’ll leave that to the internet’s armchair jury and watch aficionados to decide.

13 Puffer Vest Brands That Will Get You Through The Cold With Insane Style
13 Puffer Vest Brands That Will Get You Through The Cold With Insane Style

With the seasonal chill fast approaching, it’s likely that most guys are desperately rummaging through the back of their wardrobe in the hopes that their winter kit hasn’t been devoured by moths or accidentally dumped in a charity bin.If the worst has happened, then it might be time to hit the shops. Men’s puffer vests sit in the middle territory between autumn and winter, where it’s not cold enough to re-introduce your sentimental anorak, but a lightweight cardi just doesn’t bring the heat. These winter wonders have quite a history. Washingtonian outdoorsman and all-around tough guy Eddie Bauer revolutionised the puffer vest in the closing days of the 1930s. He had spent enough time in the unforgiving cold of Washington State to know that you needed as much thermal firepower as you could get if you wanted to survive a frosty night out. After a risky weekend in the snow that nearly ended his adventurous life, Bauer put his inventor hat on and got cracking. He stuffed a quilted jacket full of down feathers (ensuring they were proportionately deployed inside the jacket for optimal insulation). The puffer jacket, and by extension men’s puffer vest, was born.Men’s puffer vests and their jacket siblings became popular among outdoorsmen, athletes, and soldiers who had to hike, climb, and machine-gun their way through relentless arctic conditions and come out the other side hypothermia free. While it’s likely you’re not heading to the DMZ in Korea or the coldest fringes of Oregon this weekend, a puffer vest is a sensible addition to your wardrobe for those encroaching nippy mornings. These vests both fit right into a smart casual corporate look and won’t land you at the bottom of the style bin over the weekend.

How To Wear A Puffer Vest (A.K.A Gilet Vest)

Like most active, outdoor, or sports pieces, the men’s puffer vest which is formally known as the gilet vest, has very much evolved over the last 15 years. While it’s still designed to keep you warm, the gilet is no longer just oversized and puffy — it’s slimmed down quite a bit. Add to that an increase in more fashionable gilet colours and patterns — and a shift from glossy quilting to matte shells — and the gilet is a go-to fashion piece for men this season. If you need some extra pointers, we’ve compiled a comprehensive guide on how to wear a gilet vest with absolute style and class for any occasion.

‘Houseplanting’ Is The Rudest New Hook Up Trend That’s Also Irresistible
‘Houseplanting’ Is The Rudest New Hook Up Trend That’s Also Irresistible

Is it immoral to play the field when you are single, or a reality of life? This dating trend has people confused.

If you haven’t spent much time dating; it’s unlikely you’ll be very confident at it. But never fear: there are a host of wild and wonderful dating trends out there just to make sure your search for love isn’t boring.

Enter: houseplanting. And — unlike paperclipping or ghosting — houseplanting could actually help you find a serious relationship (apparantly).

A post shared by Samantha Rothenberg (@violetclair) on

Coined in the comments of New York social illustrator Violet Clair’s above Instagram post, housplanting sparked debate among her 128k followers about what it’s like to date in a world of “fuck bois” and omnipresent dating apps.

While some maintained that houseplanting is a violent enough infraction against politeness to earn the houseplanter a “boi bye” from the houseplantee (as seen by the various comments in which these kind of men are referred to as “limp noodles”), evidence from Reddit’s r/dating advice forum suggests there are more benefits to houseplanting (otherwise known as playing it cool) than meets the eye.

Posted in response to the oft-repeated claim that, “if you’re seeing multiple people at the same time, do not be an asshole and then justify your behaviour as, ‘But I’m single'”, one savvy commenter shed some much-needed light on the matter.

“Okay so my two cents…when I started dating on Tinder and Bumble, etc, over a year ago, I found literally every single guy I went on dates with, even if it led to second, third and 4th dates, were still seeing other girls or actively messaging other girls on the app while I was only talking to them, giving them all of my attention, and I was constantly getting hurt over and over again.”

“So eventually I tried what they were doing,” she continued, “and I started ‘playing the field’ and I’d schedule a couple dates a week with two different people.”

“I found while I was doing this that I came off as less needy in the beginning because I had 2 guys to talk to and I wasn’t focusing all of my attention on one person. Now, I’m different in the sense where when I get to the 3rd date with someone, maybe the 4th or 5th, is kind of when I want to start being exclusive, because I find if you’re not, are you really giving them a fair chance?”

Moral of the story? If you want as many dates as possible giving you a chance, then seeing multiple people at once (which may involve a little bit of houseplanting) may help you achieve that (by not only helping you come across as less desperate, but also making you feel less desperate).

Of course, there is a grey area where you have to decide whether you are going to take one of your connections to the next level — a moment many people believe you should become exclusive, even if it hasn’t been spoken about, in order to give that potential relationship the most fertile soil possible.

If you are yet to reach this stage, however, and are simply looking to accumulate as many suitors as you can, here are five (relatively) foolproof ways to find the balance between playing it cool and being communicative (i.e. not going full houseplant).

Be Upfront

As Elite Daily suggests: “there are plenty of things to do on a first date to improve [your] chances…and it starts with making certain that the two of you are on the same page.”

“Just message your match, and tell them you’re looking for a good time. Ask them if they’re up for a drink. Say you’re not looking for anything serious. Most likely, they’ll be refreshed by your honesty.”

Drop Hints

Elite Daily also suggested you pay your date compliments throughout the night: an important yet often overlooked (or awkwardly done) aspect of social interaction.

“Compliment them on the way they look; let them know that you’re attracted to them. Be unabashed about paying attention to them, because really, what do you have to lose? The worst case scenario is you’ll never see them again.”

Talk About Sex

We’ll let Elite Daily explain this one:

“Talk about what you like. Share funny sex stories. Be respectful about past partners and their privacy, but don’t be shy. When you talk about sex, you and the other person are basically imagining one another having sex. If they’re as into it as you are, then that’s a great sign,” (Elite Daily)

Put The Effort In

If you neglect your relationships, much like a houseplant, they’ll wither and die.

Michael B. Jordan’s Simple Black Suit Is Your Master Class In Smart Casual Style
Michael B. Jordan’s Simple Black Suit Is Your Master Class In Smart Casual Style

If you ever needed evidence of the effectiveness of a simple black suit then this is it. With just three simple menswear pieces, Michael B. Jordan was able to pull off an absolute master class in smart casual suiting. And now you’re also in on the secret.

Stepping out on the red carpet premiere of ‘David Makes A Man’ in Hollywood, Jordan cut an insanely sharp figure with the help of a fully tailored suit from the latest Berluti collection by designer Kris Van Assche.

It sounds fancy but all it is is a double breasted blazer, tee, trousers and polished black dress shoes. The secret lies in the suit’s striking use of textures with the blazer featuring a light crumpled/crocodile skin finish. The t-shirt is also a premium item based on the finish, but the style itself is just a relaxed crew neck. The trousers are just fitted to perfection.

Our point? Fitment in any smart casual look is king. Pull this off and people won’t even notice that there’s no collared shirt or fancy add-ons like a tie or pocket square.

There’s probably one fancy item you can tack on though and that’s a timepiece. Jordan did that with his Piaget Altiplano set in 18K white gold. It was the same ultra-thin timepiece that he rocked earlier in the month which retails for around $36,000.

Again, you don’t need a $36,000 timepiece just to pull off this insanely simple look. Find yourself a fitted black blazer, fitted black trousers, fitted black t-shirt, clean black dress shoes and a nice dress watch and you have 80 percent of Jordan’s look. The remaining 20 percent is purely luxury brand hype.

Michael B. Jordan definitely has the throne. But there’s a bit room to share on it.
