Rolex Raise Their Prices Again In 2023… But It’s Not All Bad News
Rolex Raise Their Prices Again In 2023… But It’s Not All Bad News

Rolex quietly raised their prices just as we rolled over from 2022 to 2023, but compared to last year’s price increases, they haven’t been quite as aggressive.

Most watch brands subtly bump their prices up every few years (sometimes, every few months) but if there’s one watchmaker’s prices that fans particularly obsess over, it’s Rolex’s.

Last year, the average price increase across all Rolex models was around 3-4% from 2021 prices, but some models saw far greater price increases. Specifically, stainless steel models from Rolex’s “Professional” collection – which includes popular models like the Daytona, Explorer, GMT-Master and Submariner – saw average price increases of 10% or more.

Rolex also bumped up their prices a second time last year in Europe and the UK in September.

This year, the jump between 2022 and 2023 prices hasn’t been quite so severe. On average, prices have risen closer to an average of 2% – although, much like last year, the price rises aren’t uniform across different markets (which is largely a factor of currency valuations and inflation). Basically, it could be worse.

To demonstrate Rolex’s 2023 price increase, here are the new prices on three popular Rolex models.

Unlike Rolex’s last round of price increases, popular models like the Daytona and Submariner haven’t been singled out and have instead only received subtle price increases of around 1.98 and 2.21% respectively. Interestingly, despite only being launched in April last year, the left-handed GMT-Master II ‘Sprite’ has also seen a price increase of 2.26%.

“Investors are well-accustomed to price rises being a key feature of this attractive industry, but it is encouraging to see this continue given that we believe it will have no discernible impact on volumes,” Barclays analysts Richard Taylor and Pallav Mittal said in a recent note to clients. That is to say, the price increases aren’t reflective of a change in Rolex production numbers.

In essence, these price hikes might be good news for people who already own Rolexes, but it’s not good news for people trying to get their hands on a new one… As difficult as that is already considering the size of Rolex’s waitlists.

Watch our guide to the most expensive Rolex watches ever sold below.

The First Trailer For Break Point, Tennis’ Drive To Survive, Has Just Dropped
The First Trailer For Break Point, Tennis’ Drive To Survive, Has Just Dropped

Tennis has always been popular, but it finds itself at a crossroads in 2023. With many of the world’s most famous players on the brink of retirement and some already leaving the sport – think of Ash Barty and Roger Federer – tennis needs to find a way to make sure it stays relevant to a whole new generation of sports fans.

Many sports have been eyeing the success Formula 1 has been enjoying over the last few years, which is in no small part thanks to the blockbuster success of Netflix’s access-all-areas documentary series, F1: Drive to Survive. Now, tennis is getting in on the action.

RELATED: The ‘Drive To Survive Effect’: Why Other Sports Are Now Ripping Off Formula 1

Enter: Break Point. Made by the same team behind Drive to Survive, Break Point will be an access-all-areas, intimate look at the personal journeys of a select group of top tennis players both on and off the court as they compete in one of the world’s most high-pressure sports.

“From career-threatening injuries and emotional heartbreak to triumphant victories and personal moments off the court, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the pressure-tested lives of some of the best tennis players in the world,” Netflix promises.

Australian Release Date

Netflix has announced that the first half of the first season of Break Point will be released on the streaming platform in Australia on January 13th, 2023 at 7:00 PM AEDT.

Netflix is splitting the release of the first season into two parts, consisting of five episodes each. The first five episodes will be available in January, with an additional five episodes launching in June 2023.

Trailer

Who’s In It?

Break Point will follow the same winning formula Netflix hit on with Drive to Survive, and will follow the individual stories of a select few rising tennis stars (both male and female) during the 2022 ATP Tour.

Just as Drive to Survive’s first episode revolved around Australian driver and big personality Daniel Ricciardo, Break Point’s first episode will follow Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis at the 2022 Australian Open. It’s a funny parallel, isn’t it? It’s like Netflix said, “if we want this to work, we’ve got to start with an Aussie”.

Other tennis players who the series will follow in the first five episodes include Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime, Greece’s Maria Sakkari, Norway’s Casper Ruud, Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, Spain’s Paula Badosa, Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, the USA’s Taylor Fritz as well as another Aussie, Ajla Tomljanovic.

Naturally, we’ll also see stars like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams make appearances, too.

There’s no news yet on who will appear in the next five episodes, but from the trailer teases, we reckon Frances Tiafoe and Iga Świątek might also be the focus of some future storylines.

Our Take

We think Break Point is a brilliant idea. It’s the perfect sport for a documentary series like this: just as F1 only has 20 drivers and is largely an individual sport, tennis is the epitome of a high-profile, individual sport. Being able to follow individual players and their storylines is a no-brainer from a production perspective.

It’s also exactly what the sport needs to stay relevant in 2023.

One of the biggest criticisms of Drive to Survive is that a lot of the drama and storylines have been concocted or exaggerated. If Break Point can avoid that pitfall and stay true to real life, we could really have a winner on our hands.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Latest Look Further Evidence He Refuses To Age
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Latest Look Further Evidence He Refuses To Age

Zlatan doesn’t get older, he just gets bolder – with the 41-year-old debuting a rather youthful new look while on holiday in Miami.

The average retirement age of a professional football player is 35, but Zlatan isn’t your average footballer. Despite suffering from a few nasty injuries lately, the notoriously outspoken and talented Swede remains in top form – both in terms of fitness, as well as his ability to entertain.

Don’t believe us? Just look at these recent photos of him on holiday in Miami. Not only is he as jacked as he’s ever been – but he’s also rocking some truly heinous braids. He looks like a 12-year-old bogan on their first Bali holiday. We love it.

Fans online aren’t quite as in love with it though. Some choice comments have included “not [liking] the new hairstyle” and “buzz his head… Corn rows do not look good on anyone!” But we don’t think Zlatan cares.

Zlatan had a bit of a mixed 2022. While he helped AC Milan secure their first Serie A title for the first time in 11 years (having also been part of their last title in 2011), he’s been off for the last few months recovering from an ACL injury.

But he’s not done yet. Back in September, he told the Italian media he would be back “with violence” when he recovers from surgery and takes to the pitch in 2023.

“If I see a player stronger than me, I’ll stop. But I haven’t seen him yet,” he said. Classic Zlatan.

Australian Tourists Shocked As Giant Crocodile Turns Up At Bali Beach
Australian Tourists Shocked As Giant Crocodile Turns Up At Bali Beach

Bali isn’t normally known for dangerous wildlife, but recent footage of a huge crocodile being hauled off a popular tourist beach by locals has made some holidaymakers nervous.

One of the main reasons people say they don’t want to visit Australia (mostly Americans) is that they’re scared of the animals. To be fair, the Land Down Under is home to a fair few scary creatures, from the world’s most venomous spiders and snakes to huge sharks and yes, crocs – but it’s a bit of an overblown fear.

But it turns out that even on holidays overseas, Australians can’t escape the risk of being attacked by some deadly animal.

An Aussie tourist has made waves online after sharing footage of a huge crocodile turning up in the surf off Padma Beach in Legian, located between the tourist hotspots of Kuta and Seminyak to the popular Facebook group Bali Bogans.

WATCH a crocodile turn up on a Bali beach below.

Wollongong local Nicole Gonzales, who is on holiday with her husband and 12-year-old daughter, shared the clip (which has been making the rounds online) saying “First time for everything! Just saw a crocodile wash up on Legian Beach.”

Not only were Aussies on the ground shocked by the croc, but commenters online have also been taken aback, with one saying “new fear unlocked in Bali.” Locals have been more sanguine about it, with one joking “nature is healing”.

Thankfully, no one got hurt. As you can see from the video, lifeguards and other locals wasted no time restraining and carrying the huge reptile away from the beach.

The crocodile, which was reportedly around 3m long, was safely evacuated by the Denpasar Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), with a spokesman for the lifeguards suggesting that it had escaped from captivity, Coconuts Bali reports.

According to biologist and crocodile attack expert Brandon Sideleau, there are no established crocodile populations remaining in Bali, explaining that while the saltwater crocodile is native to Bali, it went extinct there at some point during the past 50 years.

“In recent years sightings of individual saltwater crocodiles have become more common in both Bali and Java, and there now appears to be a small resident population in southern Lombok and possibly southern Sumbawa. Unfortunately, there is not really enough habitat left in Bali to support anything more than a very small population,” he relates.

23 Best Jeans Brands For Men In 2023

If there is one piece of clothing that everyone really should own, it’s a pair of well-fitting jeans. From cowboys to hippies, indie rockers, to preppy jocks, jeans are that one designer item that has transcended time, gender, and many a fashion wardrobe.

But with such popularity, it means practically every clothing brand under the sun produces its own denim, making wading through the abundance of mid-wash, dark-wash, light-wash, and even black jeans to find the best brands that much tougher.

Buying a pair of jeans for yourself isn’t always as simple as going into a store, picking up a pair, and taking them home. In order to nail the perfect pair you need to understand fit and fabric, as what one brand considers to be a 32-inch waist, or a slim fit, for example, could be the polar opposite to another. And naturally, with anything in fashion, some brands are just more stylish than others.

Thankfully for you, we do know which jeans (whether you’re after skinny, slim fit, slim tapered, bootcut, straight leg, or relaxed) are worth your investment and have curated such a list to make it easier than ever to find a new pair of denim for any day of the week, any event, and any season.

Alex de Minaur Is On A Winning Streak – And He’s Wearing A Very Unique Watch
Alex de Minaur Is On A Winning Streak – And He’s Wearing A Very Unique Watch

Alex de Minaur just keeps on winning. His wrist game’s also pretty winning, too, as his latest watch demonstrates.

The 23-year-old Australian tennis phenom is on a bit of a tear right now. Not only did he just beat Rafael Nadal – the greatest tennis player of all time – at the United Cup, but that comes off the back of having beaten Daniil Medvedev at the Paris Masters as well as helping Team World secure the 2022 Laver Cup.

Needless to say, things look pretty good for de Minaur ahead of the 2023 Australian Open… But we’d say his biggest victory lately has been the classy new watch he picked up for himself.

Alex shared a photo of himself over the holidays looking rather dapper and cheery, enjoying Christmas in London with his girlfriend, British tennis player Katie Boulter – with a tasty pink gold Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classic Monoface (ref. Q2542540) perched on his wrist. Seems as if his wrist game’s on the up, too.

Images: @alexdeminaur / Jaeger-LeCoultre

What is there to say about the Reverso that hasn’t been said before? Simply put, it’s one of the most stylish watches a man can own from one of the most respected and prestigious watchmakers on the planet.

RELATED: Why Are Watches So Expensive? I Went To Switzerland To Find Out

Originally intended as a sports watch – its signature rotating case was designed to protect the watch from the rough and tumble of a polo match – these days the Reverso is prized as a dress watch, too, thanks to its elegant Art Deco aesthetic.

Alex’s Reverso is a highly traditional single-dial number crafted from 18ct pink gold and mounted on a comfy French-made alligator leather strap. He used to be a brand ambassador for TAG Heuer, and while TAG makes some superb watches, they don’t make dress watches like this.

Despite de Minaur’s victory over Nadal, Team Australia hasn’t advanced from the knock-out phase of this inaugural United Cup. We’ll have the chance to see de Minaur play next at the Tennis Plays for Peace charity spectacular at Rod Laver Arena next week alongside Nadal and other stars Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Maria Sakkari, Frances Tiafoe and Alexander Zverev – and, of course, at the 2023 Australian Open.

Cristiano Ronaldo Mistakes Saudi Arabia For South Africa On First Day
Cristiano Ronaldo Mistakes Saudi Arabia For South Africa On First Day

Cristiano Ronaldo is getting absolutely rinsed by fans after talking up his move to South Africa… When he meant Saudi Arabia.

At the very end of 2022 after the World Cup, the 37-year-old controversially announced that he would be leaving Manchester United – one of the best teams in the world – for Al Nassr, a little-known Saudi Arabian football club.

Plenty has been said about his decision to ditch the English Premier League for an uncompetitive, cushy Middle Eastern sojourn. What we’re here to talk about is the hilarious gaffe he made during his first press conference in front of Saudi Arabian media.

“The football is different, so for me, it’s not the end of my career to come to South Africa… This is why I want to change and to be honest, I’m really not worried about what people say,” the star accidentally said.

It begs the question: was this just a slip of the tongue, or did Ronaldo really think he was moving to South Africa instead of Saudi Arabia? He’ll be disappointed when he finds there are no boerewors to be had…

WATCH Cristiano Ronaldo’s gaffe below.

Naturally, fans and the media alike have had a field day clowning the Portuguese superstar – with the controversial nature of the move only fanning the flames.

“Blud doesn’t even know where he is,” one fan commented on Twitter, while another confirmed, “this is bad”. Another even tagged top South African Premier Division team Orlando Pirates FC saying “here’s a potential player”.

Ronaldo might be having the last laugh, though. His new contract at Al Nassr reportedly gives him the highest football salary in history, worth a juicy €200 million per year. He also got a sign-on bonus worth another €100 million.

“In Europe, my work is done,” he explained during the press conference, adding “I had many offers in Europe, many in Brazil, Australia, the US, even in Portugal… Many clubs tried to sign me but I gave my word to this club.”

Ken Block’s Instagram Reveals Tragic Last Hours Of Motorsport Legend

The world-famous professional rally driver and founder of Hoonigan’s sad passing is a huge loss for the world of motorsports – but his final hours, as catalogued on his Instagram, offer a small sense of comfort.

The 55-year-old passed away yesterday in a snowmobile accident near Woodland, Utah. In a statement, local law enforcement confirmed that Block had been riding a steep slope in the Mill Hollow area when his snowmobile upended and landed on top of him. Block was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

It’s a tragic accident, but fans can get some solace knowing that he passed away doing something he loves, as evidenced by his last few social media posts.

Block’s last Instagram Story posts show him arriving at his alpine ranch to some heavy powder – his snowmobiles and other vehicles blanketed in snow – with the thrillseeker expressing his excitement to get out and hit the snow.

His last few Instagram posts show how Block and his family spent their Christmas at the ranch, enjoying the heavy snow, snowboarding and staying cozy around the fire.

As one commenter put it: “The man went out doing what he loves, one of his many hobbies. Probably even had a smile on his face.”

Block has long been one of motorsport’s most interesting figures.  A co-founder of DC Shoes, he moved into the world of rally driving and quickly made a name for himself, developing the Hoonigan brand and creating the much-loved Gymkhana video series, Road & Track relates.

Block’s partnerships with Audi, Ford and Porsche – as well as his insane vehicular stunts – are the stuff of legends. An adrenaline junky and Utah native, he was also a passionate winter sports fan. RIP Ken.
