When is the best time to workout, morning or evening? It’s an argument you might have never put much thought into. You just find a time of day that works for you and keep at it. To weigh in on the argument, Instagram user @edgefitnessofficial has shared a post that gives an argument for choosing either.
View this post on Instagram
As the account says in the post, “Studies show that people who workout later in the evening are more likely to miss it,” and adds, “Personally, I prefer morning workouts.” But we’re now on hand to show you his reasoning for choosing one or the other, and you never know, it may make you rethink the way you workout forever.Early risers will likely agree that a morning workout is the best because it energises you for the day and helps to boost your metabolism. Another major upside to working out first thing is that iit gets it over and done with and you don’t have to worry about it later in the day. The idea of having to go through a full day at work and then summon the energy to spend an hour or so at the gym can be off-putting for many.Although, a downside could be that in the morning you’re more likely to have less food in you, thus less fuel, which is obviously an essential ingredient to a rigorous workout. The late-night gym junkies will no doubt agree that evening workouts can be a perfect destresser from the day. It’s certainly contradictory to the point about not wanting to workout after a long day at work, but conversely, it could be the best thing you do before heading home to wind down for the rest of the night. After a full day, you’re also going to have fed yourself well, so you should be able to lift more from the additional food in your system. You will also be able to afford extra time in bed in the morning, and hours in the bedroom should never be wasted if it can be avoided.Essentially, there’s no right or wrong answer. The point of the post is to potentially make you rethink about how you workout. It doesn’t have to apply solely to the gym either, as right now, working out at home can prove tricky no matter the time of day, as it can be hard to summon the motivation. With the help on offer here, making a start on those gains has been made that little bit easier.

Australia’s iconic Bondi beach has been shuttered for more than a month. Today it has finally re-opened for exercise, during weekdays, between the hours of 7am and 5pm, with “surf n’ go” lanes now lining the beach. The message? No hanging about. While residents (and international media) have been shocked to see the beach return to its former state of surreal glory, this is not the first time Bondi has been left to run wild.As The Anzac Memorial, an organisation dedicated to the remembrance of Australians who have served in military operations, pointed out yesterday, a similar scene (though very different circumstances) unfolded during WWII.

“With the threat of Covid-19, some of Sydney’s beaches are closed and others are only open for a few hours a day for exercise. But this is not the first time swimmers, surfers and sunbakers have been restricted access to the sand and the sea,” The Anzac Memorial wrote.
“During WWII, the possibility of invasion by the Imperial Japanese Navy alarmed Australia. The fall of Singapore and the bombing of Darwin in February 1942, attacks on ships off Australia’s east coast, and the invasion of Sydney Harbour by three Japanese midget submarines on 31 May 1942 only intensified these fears.”
“People living near the coast from Palm Beach to La Perouse had to adapt as their public spaces were taken over by the military. Many beaches and coastal golf courses were used as training camps and anti-aircraft searchlights were installed along the coast,” The Anzac Memorial continued.“Local residents were required to black out their windows at night, and car and streetlights were prohibited. All swimming and promenading after dark ceased. Yet the most significant change to the landscape was the installation of fortifications across Sydney’s beaches.”
“Iron stakes, concrete tank traps and thousands of kilometres of barbed concertina wire were strewn across the sands and promenades as a barrier to enemy invasion.”
“The transformation of the coastal landscape was starkly conspicuous, and for a while, it disrupted daily life. Numbers of Sydneysiders visiting the beach dropped dramatically and local businesses suffered. Yet swimming had not been barred and canny locals found ways through the barbed wire to reach the surf.”“In September 1943, Prime Minister, John Curtin, declared that ‘the danger of invasion has passed’ and the beach fortifications began to be dismantled – although Freshwater Beach was still covered in iron stakes and barbed wire as late as 1946.”It’s fair to say both Bondi…
… and Freshwater…
… look quite different now. It’s also fair to say, despite the different threat we face today, Sydneysiders are as creative about getting in the water as ever. Not convinced? If you didn’t hear the broadsheets blast beachgoers for laying bums up at Bondi (before the ban) and locals persisting surfing after, then we’ll leave you with the following video, which Eastern Suburbs lensman Bill Morris posted to Instagram a week and a half ago.

When you’re Hollywood royalty, you can usually get away with saying or doing whatever you want. The only consequence of that is that because you’re royalty, you’re also under the public microscope, susceptible to any criticism that may come your way.Stanely Tucci has taken the internet by storm in the past week with his at-home Negroni recipe. However, it’s not necessarily the ingredients he puts into said Negroni, but more the way he binds them together that has caused a divide among the world wide web.
View this post on Instagram
In a video – filmed by wife Felicity Blunt – posted to his Instagram account, the smooth-talking and smooth-headed American actor shows us how he makes the classic Negroni from his home bar. Caution should be taken from the get-go, however, as Stanley goes all James Bond by saying he’s going to make his “up” – read: shaken – as opposed to the traditional serving method of on the rocks. If you’re a cocktail fan or professional bartender, we imagine you would close the video immediately at this point.Nevertheless, Stanley’s a national treasure to many, so it’s worth hearing him out. He begins by loading his shaker with ice (what contagious pandemic) and then starts adding his spirits.Fortunately, he at least uses the right ingredients of gin, sweet vermouth and Campari. But again, Stanley can do what he wants, so he uses a double shot of both gin and sweet vermouth – which he adds should be a good one and not the ‘Martini’ branded one – followed by a single shot of Campari. Traditionalists would usually add a single 30ml shot of each.Note that Stanley says that if you’re not a fan of gin, you can substitute it for vodka and maybe add a dash of gin. This is another comment that we imagine would make bartenders baulk at the very idea. A Negroni is a gin-based cocktail and should remain so.He then shakes it up (literally and figuratively) and then pours it into a coupe glass. This is yet another area Stanley should be questioned, as a Negroni should be served in a rocks, or Old Fashioned, glass…and on the rocks. Finally, garnish with an orange slice or peel. At least Stanley knows what to do at this final stage. It doesn’t take much browsing through the comments to notice he divides opinion.“Tucci, my dude. This is now how you make a Negroni”, says one user.
“I love you but, HOW DARE YOU SHAKE A NEGRONI”, adds another.
We could go on with a whole list of similar comments. However, some users are simply appreciative of Stanley giving us how-to guides,“I just adore this and you! Share another cocktail please!”
“This is brilliant. I request a weekly cocktail hour with Stanley and Felicity.”
If you’re a Negroni fan it’s at least worth trying Stanley’s method before making your mind up. Just don’t be shocked if it doesn’t taste ‘right’.

As The Virus spreads, we’ve seen numerous cultural institutions fall. First it was toilet paper. Then it was Spain’s two kiss greeting. Then it was Bondi Beach’s sun cult. Now Singapore Airlines’ fleet of mighty A380s are being sent to a far-flung holiday home: Australia’s Alice Springs.Singapore Airlines is not alone in this. Airlines world-over are scrambling to relocate their jets (particularly the larger ones) as demand for air travel plummets and popular airports charge up to $400 an hour for plane storage. To put this in perspective, Bloomberg reports there are more than 16,000 passenger jets out of action right now, and, “the number of passenger jets in service is the lowest in 26 years.”
“Finding the right space and conditions for 62% of the world’s planes and keeping them airworthy have suddenly become priorities for 2020.”
That’s just the beginning of the problem. As a Qantas pilot recently told DMARGE, even if they wanted to, airlines will struggle to offload these expensive, depreciating assets: “I’m not sure there’s a market for used airliners at present given the financial stress most airlines are under. Airlines are more likely looking to return leased aircraft as opposed to selling owned aircraft.”
“Boeing and Airbus are both seeing large cancellations of commercial aircraft orders.”
Another pilot, using last year’s Boeing crisis to illustrate his point, told DMARGE, “I saw that the 737 MAX jets, if they ever fly again, require something like 100 maintenance hours, per aircraft, to ready them for service.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same for all the jets parked around the world.”
With that context in mind, let us turn to Simple Flying, who first picked up on Singapore Airlines’ decision to jettison their jets: “The Simple Flying team recently spotted the A380s heading towards Alice Springs via information available on FlightRadar24.com.”
View this post on Instagram
“Having departed roughly one hour apart from each other, the four superjumbos, their flight numbers, and registrations are as follows.”
- SQ8865 – 9V-SKT
- SQ8866 – 9V-SKW
- SQ8867 – 9V-SKY
- SQ8868 – 9V-SKZ
“Departing Singapore Changi (SIN), their destination is Alice Springs Airport (ASP),” Simple Flying reported yesterday. “The actual flight time for the aircraft was just over five hours. The aircraft range between just three and eight years of age.”

According to Mainly Miles, Singapore Airlines’ A380s will be joining three of Singapore Airlines’ Boeing 777-200ERs, which were already in Alice Springs, as well as two Scoot Airbus A320s and SilkAir’s fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. However, far from being forgotten like the aforementioned “boneyards” in the US, Alice Springs’ aircraft will see regular maintenance (and inspections), to ensure they are suitable to fly (or to be sold) when the time comes.

You’ve promised the boys that ditching their missus and/or night out on the town this weekend is a good idea but you’re yet to lock down any solid plans that don’t include shit tinnies by a fire in the bush.
Well, we’re here to service all your lazy bastard needs with a rundown of the most awesome getaways for guys in NSW. From taking a dip in blue waters of Byron Bay, channelling your inner DiCaprio on a luxury boat in Sydney harbour or even finding a little zen with some broga yoga in Bondi, these escapes are sure to win you a beer or two next time you see your mates.
#1 Surfing, Byron Bay
Is there a more iconic place to paddle out than NSW’s stunning Byron Bay? We think not. While Byron’s surf might not be pumping all year round, its right hand point breaks and winter swell make it a must-try for you and your bros.
Whether you’re riding waves on Belongil Beach, The Wreck, The Pass or keeping it chilled on Wategoes, Byron Bay is the perfect getaway for you and your mates to hang ten.
#2 Luxury Boat Hire, Sydney
Looking for a traditional way to party that’s not on land? Your band of brothers will thank you when you pull up to the wharf in an elegantly appointed 95ft motor yacht with classic exterior styling and a stunning interior decor to match.
Check out The Boat. It’s all about the Italian luxury on this multi-million dollar yacht which does its talking with 3 levels, 4 spacious cabins with ensuites and accommodation for up to 45 guests. Corey Worthington won’t know what hit him.
#3 Canyoning, Blue Mountains
If you and your bro squad are keen for a little less luxury and little more rugged adventure, then try a canyoning getaway in the Blue Mountains. Deep, dark, narrow and twisting, the canyons of the Blue Mountains are places forgotten by time, forsaken by light. Carved by water over many thousands of years, their sandstone walls and waterfalls make them a challenge to master.
With plenty of water jumps, exhilarating swims, waterslides and fantastic scenery on offer, you’ll all feel one step closer to Bear Grylls.
#4 Rent A Cave, Hatter’s Hideout
Don’t let your guy’s trip be confined to four conventional walls. Rent a man cave instead. Hatter’s Hideout in the Blue Mountains (which is actually listed on Airbnb) lets you and your dudes camp cave-dweller style and soak up the wilderness.
Situated on eight private acres, the cave is 20 metres high, wide and deep and boasts panoramic views of Mount Wilson and Wollemi National Park. The Airbnb lister compares the cave to “a smalls shell of the Sydney Opera House (with better acoustics)”. This holiday option means optimal havoc-wreaking and plenty of time to rough it with your crew in the presence of Mother Nature. Kumbaya singalongs are optional.
#5 Camping, Snowy Mountains
Convince your mates to take a road trip the Snowy Mountains and you’ll find yourself in Kosciusko National Park. Winter or summer, Kosciusko spoils you with snow sports and mountain biking, cave tours, hiking, history and horse riding, and most importantly, camping amongst Australia’s high alpine scenery.
The national park is huge and features the highest mountain in mainland Australia and all the ski resorts in NSW, so whether you’re just taking in the stunning natural landscape, or carving into the park’s pristine snowy hills, the Snowy Mountains is the perfect place to find your inner-adventurer.
#6 Hire A Treehouse, Blue Mountains
Live out your childhood fantasies and invite your crew to your very own treehouse. Nestled high in the tree-tops, The Blue Mountains offer plenty of treehouses available for hire if your boys want to ‘go bush’.
With spectacular views of bush-clad ranges and beautiful sunrises, a treehouse is the ideal place for you and your friends to rave, recuperate and distance yourselves from the ruckus of city life. Plus, it’s the only place where clothing is optional and Tarzan-style hollering is acceptable.
#7 Stay & Play, Bonville Golf Resort
Widely acknowledged as one of the world’s most beautiful golf courses, and consistently voted as the most beautiful in Australia, Bonville Golf Resort is the perfect getaway if you and your squad are a bunch of novice Tiger Woods.
Located halfway between Sydney and Brisbane on the picturesque Coffs Coast, Bonville Golf Resort is the perfect location for a group golfing experience that will stimulate and challenge your mates, no matter what level of skill they’re at.

If you don’t manage to keep money stashed away, then you’ve got yourself a spending addiction.

As we’ve said on several previous occasions, the lockdown we’re all currently succumbing to is having a huge effect on relationships, both those already formed and those that have yet to flourish. Without the ability to head out on the town to try and pull, the single ones among us have resorted to spending more time on apps in the hope that we’re one swipe away from meeting Mr or Mrs Right. But even though the lockdown could be the perfect time to find ‘the one’, that doesn’t necessarily mean we should. It’s something I’ve certainly thought about, as a nearly-28-year-old, still unbelievably single male. Should I be forcing myself to meet someone just because all my nearest and dearest are in long-term relationships?I’m from the UK and am in Australia on a working holiday visa, and admittedly, I did come over with the expectation that I would meet someone and have it be so amazing that I would be able to apply for partnership and live out the rest of my years down under. Two years have passed (incredibly quickly, I might add) and I’m still no closer to meeting someone than when I first touched down. Perhaps I should have tried an inventive move like Jeremy Cohen.Part of that, as I’ve said in a previous article, is because I’m a self-sabotager and useless when it comes to using apps. But also because in my mind, I’ve felt like there’s no real point trying to spark up a relationship right now, not only because we’re in lockdown so can’t really have a ‘proper’ date, but also because my visa expiry date is fast approaching. I don’t mind the idea of long-distance, but nearly 17,000km is a bit of a stretch.I reached out to Sydney-based relationship and sex therapist Heidi Gee, to get her professional opinion on if my thoughts regarding relationships were normal. I first asked her if I’d essentially missed the peak period of my youth to find someone, considering my closest friends have all been with their partners for at least five years. She told me, “If you’re happy with your life or current situation then why change it?”. That may, of course, sound obvious to many of you, but it’s reassuring hearing it from an expert. Especially as ultimately I’m the happiest I’ve ever felt in my life.Heidi continues, “Of course, if you want to date when iso is over then do so with an open mind and have fun with it.”“I think we all get to a point in our lives where people around us are in a different place in their lives, so we question whether we ‘should’ be doing xyz.”
“I think it’s important not to compare, we are all on different life paths and the most important thing is that you are happy within yourself.”
After reading this response I already started to feel a little less confused about the particular path life has in store for me.I was then curious to get Heidi’s opinion as to whether I should be making the most of lockdown to improve my chances of meeting someone who would be understanding of my situation, both in terms of age and visa.“Do what feels right and makes you happy, not what you feel like you ‘should’ be doing just because your friends are doing it, or ‘maybe it’s what I need to do.”
“Lockdown is actually a perfect time to slow down, work on yourself and catch up on the things you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time to do them.”
Home workouts for the win, it seems.“You want to get into a healthy state of mind, body and soul and obviously right now, you want to remain safe. If checking out dating apps feels right one day, then start swiping.”Not only did Heidi’s words confirm for myself that I’m perfectly normal to be unlucky in love at my age, but also that even some simple words can have a profound effect on my mental wellbeing.Besides, there’s plenty of opportunity out there and plenty of other countries to visit.

Panerai is not only known for producing some of the most recognised silhouettes in the watch industry, but it’s also renowned for the innovative materials thought up by the technical wizards at the Laboratorio de Idee. The latest material, Fibratech, has just been announced and the first model to adopt it is the 44mm Luminor Marina. As the name implies, Fibratech is made up of a series of incredibly thin layers of unidirectional mineral fibres, which are bound together when exposed to heat. When high temperatures are applied, the layers become malleable, allowing the Panerai team to mould the iconic case shape. When each individual case rolls off the production line, the textured matte finish is different each time, meaning no two Fibratech Luminir Marinas will be the same. It’s claimed to be 60 percent lighter than steel and “harder than a rock”, so despite its large 44mm size, we doubt you’ll barely be able to notice it on your wrist. It’s similar to another Panerai-developed material, Carbotech, which has also been applied to the Luminor Marina in the past. Carbotech features on this new model too, being the material of choice for the bezel, crown and crown bridge lever. The Italian watchmaker, which is celebrating 70 years since its first of the Luminor luminescent material, has once again opted for its in-house developed P.9010 calibre, which has a three-day power reserve and has been used in the vast majority of previous Luminor Marina timepieces, along with a handful of models in the Submersible family.Panerai has married the grey-on-grey case – water-resistant to 300 metres – with a dark blue dial (sporting a gradient finish) along with a woven rubberised blue strap. The result is yet another drop-dead gorgeous watch that, assuming you have the wrist to accommodate it, is one you would most definitely want to show off on a daily basis. The Luminor Marina Fibratech 44mm is available to order now for AU$23,800/US$16,000.

We all want Michelangelo abs and a beer barrel chest. But reality is usually sloppier. Enter: Lebron James, King of the NBA and, arguably (some say Jordan had more cultural significance), the greatest basketballer of all time, who just provided us with the inspiration – and a workout tool – to get our rigs in order.Lebron has as ~peak~ of a body a man can hope for. Though it’s fine-tuned for shooting hoops, most gym warriors would kill to look like The King. So Lebron must be training right. Before you put it all down to him spending two million dollars a year on his body, though, check out the workout clips Lebron posted to Instagram yesterday. The workouts prove King James trains like an absolute champion, as well as spending money like one. They also reveal a genius ab building technique, that will sting your lateral core like it’s never been stung before – and then have your muscle fibres return (hopefully) with a vengeance.
View this post on InstagramAll band and core work! Let’s work folks! Who with me??? #StriveforGreatness
Keen? Skip straight to clip four, which shows Lebron doing modified situps with what appears to be a 15-kilo dumbbell. Lebron starts off lying on his back on a towel. He then sets his arms up in a ‘dab’ type position (one hand with a dumbbell, the other without) and then pushes forwards and upwards, before gently coming back down. He does this four times (though we appear to be catching the end of a set, and would assume he had already done about 10).As Australian Commando and fitness expert Scotty Evennett once told DMARGE, core exercises like this, that involve pushing yourself beyond your limits, are perfect for building “insane core strength”. As are those that involve working your body unevenly, as they force you to use your stabilising muscles, which can help you overcome a plateau in growth in your more visible frontal abs.If you’re interested the rest of the workout is useful too, showing you some of what Lebron is doing at the moment to stay fit from home, involving band work, hype-up rap and a whole lot of sweat.
