The Rock Wears IWC’s Most Famous ‘Big’ Watch To NFL Opener
The Rock Wears IWC’s Most Famous ‘Big’ Watch To NFL Opener

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is one of the biggest units on the planet… As well as one of Hollywood’s biggest watch collectors.

The 50-year-old actor, former professional wrestler and tequila entrepreneur puts a sizeable chunk of his $800 million net worth towards fine timepieces and has been spotted wearing brands as diverse as Breitling, Hamilton, Oris, Panerai and Rolex.

His taste tends to err on the bigger side (I mean, he’s a big guy, so it makes sense), but he’s easily got one of the most mature and complex watch collections in Hollywood. His latest watch purchase, however, might be the most famous ‘big’ watch on the planet.

The Rock was on announcer duty for the NFL season opener between the Los Angeles Rams vs. Buffalo Bills (something he’s done before, notably for last year’s Super Bowl) and wore nothing but a black tank top and an IWC Schaffhausen Big Pilot’s Watch (ref. IW501015) for the occasion. Guess he wanted to let the watch stand out.

Image: ESPN / IWC Schaffhausen

The Big Pilot is one of the most iconic watches of all time and IWC’s most famous creation. Officially introduced in 2002, the Big Pilot is modelled after the oversized “B-Uhr” observation watches IWC created in the 1940s for multiple air forces during WWII.

Since then, the Big Pilot has been the focus of a wide range of complications and design iterations – with IWC notably revamping the Big Pilot range in 2021 by slimming its case size down to 43mm (which is still rather large).

RELATED: IWC Schaffhausen Unveil Biggest Change Yet To Their Most Iconic Watch

The Rock’s Big Pilot is a slightly older model though, with a more familiar 46mm case diameter. Most men with smaller wrists can’t pull off a Big Pilot, but The Rock actually makes the watch look small…

Boasting a whopping 7-day power reserve (with an indicator at 3 o’clock) plus a date window at 6 o’clock, this is a classic Big Pilot for a man who’s quickly becoming a classic himself – in the best way possible.

Check out the rest of The Rock’s sizeable watch collection below.

One Kind Of Business Class That’s Almost Never Worth It
One Kind Of Business Class That’s Almost Never Worth It

Everyone thinks the pointy end is the best way to travel. But there is one type of business class that – in my opinion – you should never book: business class on domestic or short-haul international flights. This is because the main benefit of business class (sleep) is typically redundant on these flights, whilst all the main drawbacks of business class are still gnawing at your conscience.

Business class is a hallowed hall you scrimp and save for. But there is one type of business class that is never worth it: domestic or short haul.

I realised this during a recent short-haul flight. Though I have flown business class before on a bigger aircraft (an experience which ruined me for life) and loved it, this time I felt quite uncomfortable while sitting in my seat waiting for the plane to take off.

Image: Getty

Whether it had to do with the fact that I hadn’t realised I was flying business class until I got to the check-in counter (and so was dressed in tracksuit pants, Birkenstocks, a white tee-shirt and an Akubra), or whether it was just my imagination, I’ve never felt the stares of the Economy Brigade come down on me harder.

Worse: there were only 5 of us in business class. Though I’m probably projecting (when I’m flying cattle class, I’m the first one to judge business class passengers or look longingly at their seats as I trudge on through), it made the stares from economy class passengers feel even more targeted, as I shifted uncomfortably in my loungewear, and tried not to appear to be enjoying my Champagne too much.

RELATED: Woman’s ‘Selfish’ Business Class Move Sparks Age-Old Debate

Making things even worse still, my partner decided, as a whole group of people were walking past, to ask whether I thought it would be cool if she used the hot towel provided to clean her feet. It was at this point I decided to hide my blushes, throw on my noise-proof headphones, and stare out the window.

Before you get out the world’s teeniest violin, hear me out. There are serious reasons why you should avoid flying short haul business class (beyond my neuroticism). The first of which is this: you are stuck between a rock and a comfortable place.

Is business class always worth it? Not necessarily…

What do I mean by this? Take this by way of example. On a short business class flight, you have two options. One: have a proper sleep, but miss out on all of the fancy food and drink. Two: enjoy the food and drink, but don’t have a proper sleep. A real hardship, I know, but an important thing to factor into your booking preferences.

RELATED: Hedonistic New Trend Sparks Business Class Etiquette Debate

Another reason to perhaps save your dough (and instead use it to upgrade to business class only on long haul flights) is because often, on short business class flights, the business class seats do not recline to the point where you are lying flat (so it’s more like premium economy, really). On top of that is the environmental concern about flying business class, which may gnaw at your conscience more on short haul flights than long haul ones, because you are actually conscious during the trip (rather than fast asleep behind your sliding doors).

That may all sound excessive and grouchy. But still: consider yourself warned…

Who is Lana Rhoades?

Lana Rhoades is an American model, podcast host, social media influencer and entrepreneur. However, she is best known for her work as an adult film actress, where she was one of the industry’s biggest stars.

She has a huge social media following, with over 16.6 million followers on Instagram and 1 million followers on YouTube.

Lana Rhoades’ early life

Lana Rhoades was born in Chicago, Illinois on 6 September 1996.

On the Tap In w/ Harry Jowsey podcast, she revealed that she spent a year in prison aged 16. She said that her boyfriend at the time was the one that got her in trouble.

“They were just robbing houses, stealing things and I was just along for the ride.”

Although issued with a five-year sentence, she was releaseafter only one year for good behaviour.

Prior to her career in the adult entertainment industry, Lana Rhoades worked in a pub in Illinois, named ‘Tilted Kilt’, acompetitor to ‘Hooters’.

She briefly attended Oakton Community College in Illinois, before dropping out, age 18, and moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an adult film actress.

Lana Rhoades’ adult film career

In Los Angeles, she began with a photoshoot for Playboy Cyber Girls before shooting her first film in 2017.

She quickly rose to become one of the most popular adult entertainment actresses on the internet. According to Pornhub, from 2019 – 2021, Lana Rhoades was the most searched name on the platform.

She was also nominated for multiple adult entertainment awards during her time in the industry.

Does Lana Rhoades still do adult films?

Lana Rhoades quit the adult entertainment industry in 2018 but remained the most searched actress. Image: LanaRhoades/Facebook

The short answer is no. Lana Rhoades decided to leave the adult film industry in 2018, to focus on other personal endeavours.

Since leaving, she has been critical of the adult film industry, due to the treatment of actresses during shooting.

“It gets really extreme and abusive…some of my experiences are really humiliating for me and I wish that they never happened.”

In 2020, she was briefly scheduled to make a return to the sector, after signing a contract to work with popularproduction company Brazzers. However, on YouTuber Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, she disclosed that the deal fell through, as she no longer wanted to “have sex with a bunch of random people.”

Calls to make porn illegal

Since exiting the porn industry, Lana Rhoades has called out the porn industry for being too scarring. She has come out to say on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast that “I just don’t think [the porn industry] is good for anyone. They should make it illegal.”

Speaking of her experience during her days as an adult performer, Lana added, “It’s like circus acts. As a performer, when I was doing it, it was like, ‘What face can I make?’ ‘What sound can I make?’ ‘What can I do in this movie to make it the best one?’”

What does Lana Rhoades do now?

Although no longer making pornographic films, Lana Rhoades has admitted that she is more successful financially than when she was in the industry.

Speaking on YouTube Channel BFFs: she said, “I probably had $100,000 (153,200 AUD) in my bank account when I quit shooting porn and now I’m a multi-millionaire.”

The former adult star has a successful podcast called 3 Girls 1 Kitchen and says she posts infrequently on her OnlyFansaccount.

She has also featured in Playboy Magazine and has released her lingerie collection.

Lana Rhoades’ relationships

Lana Rhoades was previously married to a man nine years older than her, only known to the internet as Jon – he goes by @BigDad_87 on Instagram. The pair were married for five years, but little is known about their divorce.

In 2020, she started dating popular YouTuber and author Mike Majlak, after being introduced through mutual friend Logan Paul. The couple announced their separation in February 2021.

Who is Lana Rhoades’ baby daddy?

In January 2022, Lana Rhoades gave birth to a baby boy, who she named Milo.

The birth father is not known, which led many to speculate that the child’s father was Rhoades’ ex-boyfriend Mike Majlak.

Majlak squashed these rumours on the Impaulsive podcast, when he revealed that the baby’s father was an NBA player.

Lana Rhoades confirmed these rumours, stating that father played in the NBA and for the Brooklyn Nets basketball team.

She also mentioned that the player is a Libra, leading some twitter users to speculate that the father is NBA superstar Kevin Durant – the only Libra-born player on the team.

Other players linked to the pregnancy include Tristan Thompson and former Brooklyn Nets player Blake Griffin.

New evidence?

In late September 2022, Lana Rhoades posted a video to her YouTube channel, where her and her son Milo can be seen buying shoes together.

Social media was quick to point out the likeness to one of the players thought to be the father, Blake Griffin.

Whether he is the father or not, Rhoades had a sly dig at her son’s dad, saying, “Don’t have kids with NBA players.”

What is Lana Rhoades’ tattoo?

Lana Rhoades’ most well-known tattoo is two small red hearts on her butt with the name ‘Jon’. This is in reference to her previous marriage, with ‘Jon’ being immortalised on Lana’s rear end.

Lana also has a dragon tattoo finished in red in on her left shoulder blade and some wording in Arabic on her left thigh.

What is Lana Rhoades’ net worth?

According to Techie & Gamers, Lana Rhoades has a personal net worth or around $24 million as of 2022. As mentioned previously, Lana says the majority of her wealth has come since she quit the porn industry. In January 2022, she released her own NFT collection, which earned her some serious money, although the collection received some backlash online.

How To Get More Than One Free Drink While Flying
How To Get More Than One Free Drink While Flying

Most US domestic flights – no matter the airline – give passengers one free drink during the trip. However, a TikTok influencer has shared a hack that will get you more than one drink for free…

Whenever flying in economy class – which most of us do, as it’s the only option us peasants can afford – flight attendants can be pretty stingy with drinks. In fact, most airlines, when flying domestically in the US, only give out one free beverage to each passenger.

But TikTok has provided travellers everywhere with a brilliant ploy that’ll get you more than one (for free, of course) during a single flight… YouTuber and TikTok influencer Ali Spagnola posted a video on the social media platform and captioned it with, “Giving away my mile high hack.”

WATCH: Ali’s “hack” that gets you more than one drink during a flight…

And in the video, Ali explains her hack: “Here’s a hack to get three drinks on an airplane when they only usually serve one. Order just one Irish coffee. That’s Baileys, whiskey and coffee. Cheers.”

The footage shows Ali pouring a tiny airplane-sized bottle of Baileys and whiskey into a cup of coffee before cutting to her smiling. Clearly, Ali is pleased with herself for cheating the system and getting two alcoholic drinks plus another non-alcoholic drink for free during her flight.

Many were amazed by Ali’s trick, with one TikTok user commenting, “This is the best airplane hack ever.”

However, many were disgusted that Ali got a cup of coffee as seasoned travellers all know that the water tanks planes use to make coffee are rarely cleaned. One TikTok user wrote, “You’re drinking coffee on an airplane. I’m an airline mechanic and would never ever do that. That’s so fucking gross. That water is nasty,” while another commented, “NOT THE PLANE WATER”.

TikTok user @McClintToker offered an alternative method to get more than one free drink during a flight in the comment section on Ali’s video though. They wrote, “Just tip them well the first time and behave…they will bring you anything!”

Presumably, “them” means the flight attendants, right? We feel like Jerry Seinfeld – who regularly throughout the beloved sitcom doesn’t know who and how much to tip different people – at this revelation. You can tip flight attendants; who knew?

‘Private Jet Boneyard’ In Bangkok Now A Morbid Tourist Attraction
‘Private Jet Boneyard’ In Bangkok Now A Morbid Tourist Attraction

A morbid-looking aircraft boneyard in Thailand is drawing visitors and sparking speculation.

Thailand’s winding side streets hold many mysteries. So maybe we shouldn’t be so surprised by the latest revelation from the city of sois: the creepy-looking storage site for aircraft, where two private jets with a combined value of AU$122.8 million were dumped.

The jet graveyard has now turned into a tourist attraction, with hundreds of visitors reportedly being keen to pay 300 baht ($12 AUD) to go and see the rotting planes.

The two planes were formerly operated by Orient Thai Airlines, and after being dumped, a businessman intended to turn them into outdoor bars. The plan was scrapped after he ran out of funds.

Photographer Dax Ward, who visited the site previously, told The Sun, “The project was a fiasco and the foreign investor left the site as it is.”

“As far as I know, there are currently no plans to move them, although the land upon which they rest is quite expensive.”

He added: “It is very eerie in the graveyard.”

The planes appear to have been there for some time. Coconuts reported in 2014: “Today the interiors of the planes have been stripped, but the carpeting, overhead bins, and bathrooms are still intact. Oxygen masks, safety manuals and other bits are scattered around the area, almost as if the planes had crashed there.”

Also according to Coconuts, it used to be a third of the price to go see them: “To catch a glimpse of this unexpected sight, head to Ramkhamhaeng Road Soi 101 and continue for roughly 100 meters,” Coconuts wrote in 2014. “The lot is on the left, next to an auto body repair shop.”

“It is private property, but here’s a Coconuts pro tip: the security guard accepts 100THB (AU $4) as the price of admission.”

Coconuts

Coconuts also reports that these weren’t the first planes to appear in this boneyard, alleging that around 2010 “a pair of two Boeing 747 nose sections sat waiting to be dismantled [there].”

“Seeing these massive sections from a jumbo jet once known as the ‘Queen of the Skies’ begs the question: How did they get there? Only one 747 nose remains, accompanied by the MD-82s.”

Coconuts

Coconuts added: “The McDonnell Douglas-built MD-82 was a commercial jetliner which entered service in 1981. Since the registration numbers of the two sitting inside the Ramkamhaeng boneyard have been painted over, it’s hard to tell when these planes were operated or retired.”

“Even more mysterious is how their big bodies – the MD-82 fuselage stretches more than 40 meters long – ended up here along with so many other airplane components so far away from an airstrip.”

Coconuts

“Interestingly the same model of plane, operated by the same airline, was involved in a deadly accident some years back,” Coconuts added.

This isn’t the only mysterious boneyard in the world. There is also one in Arizona, USA, where abandoned miltary jets have sparked much speculation. On top of that, there is one in southern Bali, where Atlas Obscura reports, an abandoned Boeing 737 lays at rest.

When Did Hollywood Get So… Hairy?
When Did Hollywood Get So… Hairy?

Thinking about growing a beard? Take this as a sign to do so, because a ton of male celebrities are embracing their facial hair, making it the grooming trend of 2022…

It’s almost been a week since the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony took place but we’re still marvelling over all the incredible style that was on full display by the men who attended.

But upon closer inspection, we’ve discovered a new trend among Hollywood actors. That trend? Facial hair. And lots of it.

Bob Odenkirk showed off his new beard at the 2022 Emmys. Image Credit: Getty Images

Andrew Garfield, Oscar Issac and Bob Odenkirk were all rocking shaggy beards at the Emmys this year – surprising, as all three men usually sport more clean-shaven looks. And these three aren’t the only ones who have swapped bare chins for hairy ones.

Just a few months ago, Bryan Cranston – best known for his role as Walter White in Breaking Bad – debuted a wild, bushy beard and long, unkempt hair; although Cranston has admitted his new look is because of a ‘secret role’ he’s undertaken.

Of course, facial hair is nothing new but looking at how many men in Hollywood now have beards, – Jake Gyllenhaal, Bradley Cooper and Jonah Hill; just to name a few – it’s clear that beards will soon be a necessity for gentlemen who want to stay ‘on trend’.

If you’re wanting to try out the latest craze that all Hollywood men seem to be backing, here’s our ultimate guide to growing a beard. And good luck to our brothers out there who struggle with growing facial hair and end up looking like Michael Cera whenever they try…

Singapore Hotel Prices Soar To $2,000 A Night Thanks To Formula 1
Singapore Hotel Prices Soar To $2,000 A Night Thanks To Formula 1

Singapore has never been the cheapest city to spend a night in, let alone the cheapest city to watch a Formula 1 race in – but hotel prices are reaching silly levels as bankers, the jet-set and revheads are flocking to the city ahead of the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix.

Since its addition to the F1 calendar in 2018, the Singapore Grand Prix has carved out a dedicated following. The Marina Bay Street Circuit, the first-ever night race in F1, is widely considered to be one of the most challenging and unique tracks in the world, and regularly draws huge crowds thanks to its host city’s nature as an international travel hub.

The Singapore Grand Prix was cancelled in both 2020 and 2021 due to COVID, and is set to return to the Formula 1 World Championship this year – and fans are absolutely champing at the bit to go watch the race, driving hotel prices sky-high.

According to Bloomberg, rooms at top-flight venues including the iconic Marina Bay Sands or the storied Raffles Hotel have been sold out for much of the coming month – many at upwards of $2,000 a pop – although even before that surge, accommodation costs in Singapore had reached their highest in a decade, they explain.

The view from the top of the Marina Bay Sands. Image: Nothing Familiar

It’s not just the F1 that’s drawing people to The Garden City, though. A number of big investment conferences are also being held in the city over September and October, including SuperReturn Asia, the Milken Institute Asia Summit, the Forbes Global CEO Conference and several crypto-related events.

Singapore’s insane hotel room demand and packed event schedule lie in stark contrast to rival Asian financial hub Hong Kong’s barren events calendar. The Chinese city has been reluctant to lift strict COVID guidelines, which are crippling the city’s attractiveness as a tourist destination as the rest of the world returns to ‘business as usual’.

RELATED: Forget COVID-19: This Is What Scares Australians About Travel

Indeed, two major Hong Kong marathon events were just cancelled at the last minute, with organisers explaining the government had taken too long to give them certainty around permission and citing COVID transmission concerns, South China Morning Post reports.

The 2022 Singapore Grand Prix will run from the 30th of September to the 2nd of October, with lights out on the 2nd scheduled for 11pm AEDT (states that observe daylight savings will switch over to daylight savings time on the morning of the 2nd so don’t get caught out).

The Best Panerai Watches To Buy & Invest In
The Best Panerai Watches To Buy & Invest In

Officine Panerai makes some of the most recognisable watches on the market today. Not one to cram its dials with over-complicated design flourishes, the Italian watchmaker prefers to take a more minimalist approach to design – instead, relying on its impressive nautical history and a signature design language that’s immediately recognisable.

Panerai was founded in Florence, Italy in 1860 by then-35-year-old Giovanni Panerai. The original shop was located at the iconic Ponte Alle Grazie bridge, but when his grandson Guido took over the business just 30 years later, it was relocated to Piazza San Giovanni, one of the main public squares in the city.

It was Guido who was responsible for developing Panerai’s famous Radiomir luminous material (and subsequent nomenclature) in 1915 and shortly after, Panerai was commissioned to make diver’s watches for the Italian navy. These watches were made in collaboration with Rolex and were huge, coming in at 47mm – a uniquely large watch diameter Panerai still offers today.

These days, Panerai produces a majority of its movements in-house and is well-known for its material innovations, such as its proprietary Carbotech and Fibratech compounds. Their Radiomir and Luminor luminescent compounds have since been phased out in favour of Super-LumiNova in recent years, due to their radioactive properties.

Panerai watches have secured a special place in the world of horology due to their hefty construction, use of innovative materials and their general aesthetic. They’re a true icon. We’ve rounded up some of the best Panerai watches currently available, although making such a shortlist was no easy task…

Panerai Luminor Marina Quaranta

Reference Number: PAM01270
Case Material: AISI 316L Polished Steel
Size: 40mm
Price: AU$11,100

The Luminor Marina Quaranta is arguably the best starting point for anyone trying to get into the brand. Panerai is known for its large case sizes, but this new model is a rather manageable 40mm: the smallest Luminor Marina in production, in fact. The sizing might be non-traditional but otherwise, it’s pure, traditional Panerai: a ‘sandwich dial’ (where the watch’s lume is recessed under the dial, creating a sandwiched appearance); small seconds and a date window at 9 and 3 o’clock respectively, plus that famous Panerai crown guard.

Buy Now

Panerai Luminor Chrono

Reference Number: PAM01110
Case Material: AISI 316L Polished Steel
Size: 44mm
Price: AU$15,300

Watch brands love to make chronograph versions of their popular dive watches, but often it can completely ruin the model’s aesthetic (and even functionality). That’s not the case here with the Luminor Chrono thanks to its elegant execution. Somewhat atypically, its chronograph pushers are mounted on the left-hand side of the case – as not to interfere with the Luminor’s classic crown guard. This chrono really is the best of both worlds. Another unique feature? It’s mounted on a hefty integrated steel bracelet, with a cool link motif that reflects the Luminor’s signature case design.

Buy Now

Reference Number: PAM01084
Case Material: AISI 316L Polished Steel
Size: 44mm
Price: AU$8,600

Want a more traditional (read: bigger) case size than the Quaranta but don’t want to break the bank? The Luminor Logo represents the entry-level point into the world of Panerai. It’s a pure, focused timepiece: hand-wound, time only, with a small seconds counter a 9 o’clock and the nifty Panerai arrow logo at 6 o’clock. You don’t get the ‘sandwich dial’ design common on more expensive models and as a result, the luminous material is painted onto the hands and markers instead – this may be a dealbreaker for some Panerai fanatics. For others, however, a 44m Panerai watch for a smidge under $8,000 is shockingly good value.

Buy Now

Panerai Submersible Goldtech

Reference Number: PAM01164
Case Material: Goldtech
Size: 42mm
Price: AU$42,200

Panerai’s Submersible collection used to be a sub-collection within the Luminor family, but in 2019 it broke out into its own, fully-fledged model line. A slightly more modern, utilitarian take on the Panerai formula, the Submersible is one tough cookie… But this one is both tough and luxurious. Panerai’s Goldtech is a unique alloy of gold, copper, and platinum that boasts a lustrous bronze-like red hue while being resistant to any oxidisation and corrosion when exposed to sweat or seawater – perfectly suited for aquatic adventures.

Panerai Radiomir GMT

Reference Number: PAM01144
Case Material: AISI 316L Polished Steel
Size: 42mm
Price: AU$11,800

For yet another take on the Panerai formula, why not try a Radiomir. Named after Panerai’s groundbreaking pre-WWII lume technology and featuring a case design that pays homage to the very first Panerais produced for European militaries, the Radiomir is a very retro watch perfect for stylish gents. Unlike many Panerais, this reference features a transparent caseback. Peering through the back and having a look at the movement is a joy that never gets old.

Panerai Luminor Due

Reference Number: PAM01042
Case Material: Polished Goldtech
Size: 42mm
Price: AU$28,600

Panerais are bold and brassy, and there’s no such thing as a ‘small’ Panerai – but the Luminor Due comes close. Yes, it might still be 42mm wide, but it’s only 4.2mm thin – tiny by Panerai’s normal standards. It’s the closet Panerai gets to a dress watch. While you can get it with a black dial, we’ve chosen to highlight the white-dial model as we feel it better complements the Goldtech case material. It’s got an air of sprezzatura that’s really quite compelling.

Panerai Luminor Chrono Goldtech Blu Notte

Reference Number: PAM01111
Case Material: Polished Goldtech
Size: 44mm
Price: AU$41,700

Speaking of Goldtech… Like the Luminor Chrono above but think it needs a little more pizazz? The Panerai Luminor Chrono Goldtech Blu Notte is the timepiece for you. Blu Notte is Italian for ‘night blue’ and true to form, this watch has a mesmerising, sun-brushed, deep blue dial. It’s quite royal, really. Instead of an integrated steel bracelet, this bad boy comes with a Blu Notte alligator strap for added luxury. This is one classy chrono.

Panerai Luminor Marina eSteel Verde Smeraldo

Reference Number: PAM01356
Case Material: Polished eSteel
Size: 44mm
Price: AU$13,400

At first glance, this Luminor Marina eSteel appears to be a normal Luminor… But appearances can be deceiving. 58.4% (or 89g) of its total weight is constructed from recycled-based materials. The Luminor Marina eSteel’s case and dial, as the name implies, is made from Panerai’s new eSteel, a stainless steel alloy that incorporates recycled materials. On top of that, the watches’ straps are made from recycled PET plastic, a common contributor to ocean pollution. It looks good while being good for the planet, while not compromising on performance, either.

Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel Grigio Roccia

Reference Number: PAM01288
Case Material: Polished eSteel
Size: 44mm
Price: AU$16,400

Here’s another eco-friendly eSteel Panerai – this time, it’s a Submersible. This model features an attractive grey colour scheme and a cool dégradé dial that gets darker towards the bottom, a reference to how light gets more scarce the deeper you dive, as well as a high-gloss polished ceramic bezel – a first for Panerai. It’s also part of the new Submersible QuarantaQuattro range, which as the name implies, features a ‘Goldilocks’ case size of 44mm.

Panerai Luminor Marina Carbotech

Reference Number: PAM01661
Case Material: Carbotech
Size: 44mm
Price: $21,100

Another model here that utilises a proprietary material – this time, Carbotech. Formed by binding together several thin layers of carbon fibre, the resultant product is stronger and lighter than both ceramic and titanium. It also, combined with the blue accents, gives this Luminor Marina a stealthy appearance not many other watches can match. The P.9010 calibre allows for independent hour-hand adjustment – leaving the minute hand stationary – along with a small seconds counter and date window.

Panerai Luminor Chrono Flyback Ceramica

Reference Number: PAM01298
Case Material: Black Ceramic
Size: 44mm
Price: AU$23,200

Ceramic might seem like a strange material to make a watch out of, but it actually makes a lot of sense: it’s light, tough, scratch-resistant and highly biocompatible. It also looks sick, which is exactly how we’d describe the Luminor Chrono Flyback Ceramica. It’s not just a pretty face, either. As the name implies, it’s a flyback chronograph, meaning you don’t have to stop the chronograph function to reset it – it’s capable of timing two things at once. Interestingly, the dial features calibrations for nautical miles, in line with Panerai’s nautical focus. On that note, it also features 100m of water resistance.

Panerai Radiomir 8 Days

Reference Number: PAM00992
Case Material: Patina Steel
Size: 45mm
Price: AU$12,900

The Radiomir 8 Days really dials the retro up to 11 with its rugged calf leather strap, onion crown and the use of an older typeface on the dial – but it’s actually a rather impressive watch by any modern standards. Its hand-wound P.5000 calibre, as the name implies, has a whopping 8-day power reserve. That’s more than just about any other luxury watch on the market (particularly at this price point) and means that you can go without wearing it all week and still have it keeping perfect time. That’s pretty cool.

Best Panerai Watches FAQs

Are Panerai watches a good investment?

Yes. Panerai watches are built to last and are widely considered a good investment. The company only uses high-quality materials and it shows in their products, making them a must-have for watch collectors. Panerai collectors, known as 'Paneristi', are a dedicated bunch – and will pay a hefty premium for particularly special models.

How long is Panerai warranty?

Panerai watches are guaranteed against manufacturing defects for 8 years starting from the date you purchased it. This does not cover wear and tear or damage by inappropriate handling.

How to spot fake Panerai watches?

One usual difference between an original and a fake Panerai watch is the GMT hand. On original Panerai watches, the GMT hand reaches the outer edge of the dial, while the counterfeit is much shorter. The steel quality of a real Panerai watch is also shiny and bright compared to fakeries.

‘Blade Runner’ Sequel Series Officially In The Works
‘Blade Runner’ Sequel Series Officially In The Works

Amazon Studios has officially given the green light to Blade Runner 2099a new live-action series that’ll be executively produced by Ridley Scott – and it’s understood that the series will act as a sequel to both Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049.

Blade Runner, starring iconic actor Harrison Ford, is considered one of the best and most influential sci-fi films of all time. However, the film wasn’t appreciated at the time of its release back in 1982; in fact, Blade Runner bombed at the box office.

Obviously, over the years, Blade Runner has become a beloved cult classic. So much so, that in 2017, a sequel was released. The sequel, called Blade Runner 2049, was set thirty years after the events of the first movie and received critical acclaim.

But hold on to your hats (or rather, your origami unicorns), as it’s just been announced that another instalment in the Blade Runner franchise is officially on the way. According to Variety, Amazon Studios – who’s responsible for the hit television series The Boys and The Rings of Power – has greenlit a live-action limited series which will be called, Blade Runner 2099.

No plot details about Blade Runner 2099 have been released yet, but the title of the upcoming series suggests that it will be set fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. Sadly, no casting details have been announced yet either, but considering Ford appeared in the original Blade Runner and its sequel, it’s possible he could appear in this new series.

It’s also possible that Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas – who starred in Blade Runner 2049 – could also appear in Blade Runner 2099. Only time will tell… But we’re certainly keeping our fingers crossed that all three make at least cameos.

At this stage, we do know that Ridley Scott, who directed the first Blade Runner film, will executively produce Blade Runner 2099 as will Michael Green, who co-wrote the Blade Runner sequel. Silka Luisa, known for producing the Halo series, will act as the showrunner of Blade Runner 2099.

Again, there’s no word on when the new Blade Runner series will start filming or will be released on Amazon Prime Video – but as it’s in such early stages of production, we’re guessing our screens won’t be graced with Blade Runner 2099 for at least a few years. Watch this space.
