Nick Kyrgios’ ‘Tennis Inspired’ Tesla Will Hurt Your Eyeballs
Nick Kyrgios’ ‘Tennis Inspired’ Tesla Will Hurt Your Eyeballs

Subtlety isn’t really in Nick Kyrgios‘ vocabulary.

The 27-year-old tennis champ, who made headlines around the globe for his winning doubles performance (and bringing Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘siuuu’ chant to the stuffy world of tennis) at the Australian Open earlier this year, is brash, bold, and not afraid of attention.

So it’s probably not surprising that a dude who basically cuts his hair to look like a damn tennis ball would be inspired by his sport of choice when it comes to his car. Last weekend, King Kyrgios turned heads as he arrived at a charity basketball game at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena in a bright green Tesla Model X.

Honestly, we couldn’t think of a more Kyrgios car. Gull-wing doors, a staunch stance, and most importantly, an eyeball-searing wrap that reminds of Astroturf? It hurts our eyes but we love it.

Kyrgios is actually quite a revhead. According to The Canberra Times, Nick and older brother Christos were both “massive car enthusiasts” growing up, and dreamed of one day owning a collection of powerful sports and muscle cars.

Other cars in Nick’s collection include a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon – one of the only Demons in Australia, actually – as well as an R35 Nissan GT-R. It’s interesting he’d go from something as unabashedly petrol-thirsty as a Dodge Demon to a Tesla. We respect it.

Kyrgios was last in action at the Houston Open in April where he lost in the semi-finals to the US’ Reilly Opelka. He’s reportedly taking some time to rest and recuperate back home Down Under before the French Open at the end of May.

Australia’s Most Mental BMW Ever Goes Up For Sale
Australia’s Most Mental BMW Ever Goes Up For Sale

Few vehicles have been the focus of more acclaim online than the venerable BMW E46 M3. Passionate revheads across the globe have spent countless hours; typed thousands of words; embarrassed themselves singing this amazing car’s praises.

But this E46 M3 has received more attention than most. Indeed, it might just be the most famous BMW in Australia – or, at the very least, the most mental. Why? Well, just pop the bonnet…

The 3.2L inline-six that would have originally powered this 2001 Phoenix Yellow beaut has instead been replaced by the 5.0L naturally aspirated V10 from the E60 M5, mated to a manual transmission from an E92 M3. E60 M5s in Australia never got a proper manual, which makes this combo alone pretty special, let alone the fact it’s now in a bloody E46.

We probably don’t have to spell out how bonkers – and hard to pull off – a conversion like this is. We’ve seen a lot of crazy cars here at DMARGE but this one might just take the cake.

Image: Chrome Temple

The conversion was done by BMW specialists Brintech Customs, who you might know as the mad lads behind popular Australian automotive YouTube channel Mighty Car Mods’ V8-powered E30.

RELATED: The Secret To Finding ‘Diamond In The Rough’ Classic & Second Hand Cars In Australia

This E46 required reinforcing the vehicle’s subframe and mounting points for the larger and significantly more powerful engine; enhanced engine management and electrical systems including an M5 ECU and dash; a beefed-up and rebuilt diff, and larger CSL-style wheels.

Those bonnet vents aren’t just for visual effect, either: they’re an entirely necessary modification that’s needed to help cool down the huge donk that now powers this compact sports car. When PerformanceDrive wrote about this car back in 2019, they said it makes 310kW at the wheels – which is a lot more than the official stock figure of 252kW.

“[All in all], this V10 M3 is like nothing else on the road in Australia. Completely engineered and registered in New South Wales, this is one M3 that even Top Gear couldn’t get their hands on – but you can,” says sellers Chrome Temple. Hell of a sales pitch, we say. They want $95,000 (pretty reasonable) and you can check it out here.

Terra Price Prediction 2022: What Price Can LUNA Reach This Year?
Terra Price Prediction 2022: What Price Can LUNA Reach This Year?
  • LUNA is the native token of the Terra ecosystem, a blockchain platform designed to make cryptocurrency more usable in the real-world by bringing Decentralized Finance (DeFi) to the public.
  • LUNA is currently trading for $96 ($132 AUD) per token, and is up just over 5% year-to-date.
  • LUNA has grown an incredible 86,000% from its all-time low of $0.12 ($0.17 AUD) in March 2020, making it one of the best performing tokens of the past two years.
  • Experts are mostly bullish on the future of LUNA, with some analysts predicting a $900+ valuation in the coming years.

2022 hasn’t been a fantastic year for cryptocurrency investors, however, holders of the LUNA token would be fairly pleased themselves as the crypto continues to provide market-beating performance. While the overall crypto market remains down 18.7% year-to-date LUNA has considerably outperformed the general market, currently up 5% year-to-date.

This may not seem all that impressive but considering that all other major cryptocurrencies are down anywhere between 15 and 40% — LUNA’s performance this year can be considered quite strong. As of today, LUNA is ranked as the 8th largest cryptocurrency by market cap and trades for $96 ($132 AUD) per token.

Terra (LUNA) 1 Year Price Chart: CoinMarketCap

What is Terra (LUNA)?

To keep it very simple, LUNA is the token that runs the Terra ecosystem, and powers the increasingly popular US dollar-pegged stablecoin: TerraUSD (UST) as well as a bunch of other different currency-denominated stablecoins.

Terra was originally founded in January 2018 by Korean founders Daniel Shin and Do Kwon. The two wanted to help drive the adoption of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency by focusing on real-world use cases that offered solid, long-term rewards for crypto users.

The Anchor Protocol, a decentralized finance application on the Terra blockchain, offers users a 19.5% interest rate on all TerraUSD deposits. This rate is considerably higher than any interest being offered by conventional banks, and is one of the most attractive elements of the Terra ecosystem.

LUNA Tokenomics

Without getting too complicated, LUNA is considered to be attractive by crypto investors because it’s a deflationary asset, which means that the total number of available LUNA tokens is always decreasing.

This works in the following way: whenever someone “mints” new Terra-based stablecoins, they have to “burn” the dollar equivalent in LUNA tokens. So if more people choose to use UST and other Terra stablecoins, the value of LUNA will rise by default.

LUNA Short-Term Price Prediction (1 Month)

According to analysts from CoinDesk, LUNA looks set to grow over the coming month, and could reach a high of $120 ($166 AUD) in the next week. Because the Luna Foundation Guard (LFG) — a subsidiary company of Terra — has been purchasing large sums of Bitcoin (BTC) and Avalanche (AVAX) as reserves, sentiment towards LUNA is trending positive. This supports the bullish thesis for LUNA.

LUNA 1-Year Price Prediction (2022)

According to a mixture of automated and expert forecasting from GovCapital, LUNA looks set to reach the $120 ($166 AUD) mark by the beginning of this July. Their analysts expect LUNA’s lowest price by the end of the year to be $142 ($196 AUD), and expect that if everything goes well it could even reach the $165 ($229 AUD) mark.

The analysts at CoinQuora are also quite bullish on LUNA and predict that the token could reach a new all time high of $150 ($210 AUD) by the end of the year.

UNI 3-Year Price Prediction (2024)

Continuing the extremely bullish thesis, the analysts from CoinQuora predict that the price of LUNA will reach somewhere around $350 ($490 AUD) by the end of 2024.

On a slightly less bullish note, the automated technical analysis from WalletInvestor predicts that LUNA will only grow to approximately $200 ($280 AUD) per token by the end of 2024.

UNI 5-Year Price Prediction (2026)

Analysts at CoinQuora predict that as crypto continues on its adoption trend, the Terra ecosystem will grow alongside it leading the LUNA token to be worth an impressive $900 ($1262 AUD) by the end of 2026, a cool 900% increase from today’s price.

Analysis from WalletInvestor is less bullish, predicting that LUNA will end 2026 at $555 ($778 AUD).

GovCapital maintains its bullish outlook, claiming that LUNA will be worth a hefty $687 ($963 AUD) in roughly 5 years time.

When looking at all of the above forecasts, bear in mind that analysts’ and algorithm-based predictions can be wrong. These LUNA projections are based on fundamental and technical studies of past performance and unfortunately this doesn’t guarantee future results.

LUNA Price Prediction Conclusion

  • LUNA token has an extremely solid & sustainable foundation for growth and strong performance in the wider crypto market. Because LUNA is a deflationary utility token with a host of real use cases, it is arguably one of the more growth-oriented crypto assets to invest in. As the native token of the Terra ecosystem, which is posing serious competition to competitors like Binance and Ethereum, LUNA is a strong contender for platform-based market dominance.
  • Owing to its current status as the 8th largest cryptocurrency, flexing a substantial market cap of US$30 billion ($42 billion AUD), it is unlikely that you’ll ever 100X your money with LUNA.
  • While LUNA may not ever “moon” from here, it has all the necessary fundamentals to grow sustainably into the future. Investors should keep a watchful eye on all updates regarding regulation of stablecoins, as the price of LUNA is particularly vulnerable to events that disrupt the performance of stablecoin related DeFi.

Porsche Unveils Bold Plan To Save The Petrol-Powered Car
Porsche Unveils Bold Plan To Save The Petrol-Powered Car

You don’t often see ‘exotic car brand’ and ‘eco-friendly’ in the same sentence together. Well, you didn’t, until Porsche came along.

The German performance car brand was of the first high-end carmakers to invest in electric vehicles, offering hybrids as early as 2010 with the Cayenne and shocking the world (pun intended) with their monstrous all-electric Taycan in 2019 – which now outsells the iconic 911.

Porsche’s march towards electrification continues, with the next-generation Macan planned to be totally electric. They even have aspirations to make a hybrid 911.

But Porsche also realises there’s a big chunk of their customer base who finds anything electric to be a total anathema… Which is why they’ve invested in a truly interesting enterprise that might just save the internal combustion-engined car as we know it.

Earlier this month, Porsche announced they’ve invested US$750 million and acquired a long-term stake in HIF Global, a Chilean company that develops synthetic climate-neutral fuel (eFuel) production facilities. Its most notable project is a pilot eFuel plant in Chile, which will produce eFuels from hydrogen and CO2 using wind energy, starting in mid-2022.

HIF Global’s pilot eFuel plant in Punta Arenas, Chile. Image: Porsche

If successful, it’ll be the world’s first integrated, commercial, industrial-scale plant for making eFuel. Which is good news for ICEs.

The process works like this: to generate green hydrogen, electrolyzers use wind power (of which windswept Chile has plenty) to dissociate water into its two components, oxygen and hydrogen. Then, you filter CO2 out of the air and then combine it with the green hydrogen to form synthetic methanol.

The result is e-methanol, which can be converted into climate-friendly fuel or used in a myriad of applications, such as in the chemical industry, where it can replace raw materials of fossil origin. But we care more about the former. Essentially, these electricity-based synthetic fuels enable nearly-CO2-neutral operation of combustion engines. Guilt-free motoring, baby!

RELATED: Porsche Introduces New ‘Supercar For A Day’ Service In Australia

Because the elephant in the room is this: even if everyone starts buying only EVs tomorrow, we’re still going to have a lot of ICEs on the roads for a long time to come. eFuels will allow us to have a smoother transition to total electrification – and supports vehicles that are as of yet infeasible to electrify with current technology.

And as much as we love seeing classic cars get a new lease on life through EV conversions, eFuel would allow classic car owners to preserve the purity of their pride and joys.

Fill ‘er up. Image: Porsche

Porsche and HIF Global also plan to develop further industrial eFuel facilities in Chile, the US and Australia, which all have large supplies of renewable energy.

RELATED: Australia’s New Electric Car Strategy Is Embarrassingly Bad

Porsche initially plans to use the eFuel from Chile in motorsport flagship projects – for example, Porsche entered a pair of new 718 Cayman GT4 RSes powered by synthetic fuel into the recent GP Ice Race in Zell am See, Austria. Porsche has also suggested that they could use eFuel to fuel the company’s own vehicles with combustion engines during initial fuelling at the factory.

We’re probably a long way away from seeing eFuels pumped at bowsers alongside or instead of fossil fuels. Still, it’s an exciting prospect.

In-Flight Robots Are Coming To Spy On Passengers’ Every Move… Probably
In-Flight Robots Are Coming To Spy On Passengers’ Every Move… Probably

We’ve made leaps and bounds in the in-flight space over the last three decades. You no longer have to breathe in cigarette smoke. You can now watch thousands of hours of entertainment at the click of a button. You have (admittedly, still pretty slow and expensive), wifi. You can even cancel out the noise of crying babies with soundproof headphones. Oh, and you can check in online.

But despite all this, we are still stuck in the dark ages with certain things. We still have pissed off passengers opening the doors and sliding down the inflatable slide. We still have flight attendants wrestling drunken passengers. We still have people doing chin-ups on the overhead lockers. And we still spend 5 minutes awkwardly hunched over at the end of the flight waiting for the doors to open, fearful someone in a row behind us might overtake us if we were to sit down.

We still have to queue to use the toilet, even. On some crowded long haul flights, this can require passengers to undergo some quite strategic planning as to when they are going to use the bathroom, so as to avoid an awkward 20 minutes standing in the aisle, pretending to stretch, while actually busting for the toilet. Or worse: a standoff with another desperate loo user who arrives at the same moment as you do.

Given how advanced technology is, it seems a bit ridiculous we are yet to find a smooth solution to this. But fear not: a solution is “likely” in the works, Anthony Harcup, senior director at design house Teague recently told DMARGE.

Harcup said that just like how rideshare apps are able to use data to streamline the user experience, airlines will eventually be able to do the same with meal deliveries and toilet usage.

“In the same way that ridesharing services have used GPS, Smart Devices and AI driven system design to increase the utilization and efficiency of cars and drivers on the ground, the digitization of the airline industry will increase the efficiency of passenger management and de-congest the passenger experience,” Harcup told DMARGE.

“This will likely extend to the use of bathrooms on-board and the delivery of meal service too. Already some airlines are implementing smart systems of boarding (this was rapidly accelerated by the social-distancing requirements throughout the pandemic).”

Anthony Harcup

It’s not just this part of the travel experience artificial intelligence is due to disrupt. Speaking about robots being tested at Heathrow (to guide passengers around), Andrei Danescu, co-founder and CEO of BotsAndUs told CNBC in 2020: “Automation has already significantly changed how airports function, across all areas of operation — from passenger services to luggage maneuvering, security and many more.”

“What we see as a key next step is actually bringing all these together so they can communicate and collaborate with each other, offering a seamless and safe experience from the car park to boarding the flight.”

Andrei Danescu

Even at the time of writing, robots (though you might not think of them as robots, but rather computers) are ‘working’ at airports all around the globe, checking people in, scanning bags and providing concierge services.

CNBC reported in 2020: “Nearly half of the world’s airlines and 32% of its airports are seeking a partner to further investigate robotics and automated vehicles in the next three years, according to the 2018 Air Transport IT Insights survey.”

“By 2030 robots are expected to have replaced check-in processes, according to a report published… by UK-based inventory management company Vero Solutions.”

CNBC

Flashpack also predicts there will be robot hotels, driverless everything, AI travel agents, no more passports and cleaner, more efficient travel in the future, all thanks to robots.

Let the revolution begin.

Why We Cry On Planes, According To Science
Why We Cry On Planes, According To Science

Crying on planes is surprisingly common. It’s such a thing, in fact, that Virgin Atlantic added a “tear jerker” warning to films in 2011, after a survey found people were in prime emotional position for a breakdown during flights.

The Guardian reports that in the survey (which was conducted on Virgin Atlantic’s Facebook page), “41% of men said they had buried themselves in blankets to disguise their tears from other passengers” while women “were more likely to pretend they had something in their eye.”

“Overall, a 55% said they had experienced heightened emotions while flying, with travellers from Wolverhampton the most likely to join the ‘mile high blub club.”‘

If you, too, are a part of this club, and you too have ever wondered why you are prone to bawling your eyes out at 40,000ft, today is your lucky day. Science might have the answer.

That’s right: your at altitude crying sessions could be explained by physiology.

There are numerous reasons, but let’s start off with biology. Namely: dehydration. You see, dry air affects more than just your taste buds. Dehydration (caused by high altitude and cabin pressure, which reduce oxygen in the cabin) is linked with both mood disturbances and fatigue. Both these states can make you more liable to break down at the drop of a hat (or a sad moment in Toy Story 3).

Physical discomfort can also add to this – the stress of worrying about developing stress fractures in your knees due to your battery cage like conditions, or the irritation caused by the person behind you kicking your seat can also undermine your usual stoic facade.

Speaking of stress, Jodi De Luca, a Colorado-based psychologist who studies the impact of high altitudes on emotions, told Time in 2018: “We have little control over our environment while we are travelling by plane.”

“Although we may not be consciously aware of our emotional vulnerability, our emotional brain is working overtime.”

Jodi De Luca

Sleep deprivation is another culprit: when you are flying long haul, often this means you are either returning from somewhere (and so already jet lagged) or on your way somewhere, having had your usual sleep routine disrupted by something like an early morning flight.

As we all know, sleep deprivation can leave you on edge. This, coupled with the fact that long haul flights often mean you are either leaving family and friends behind, or are on your way to see them, means you are more liable to cry.

Add feeling lonely (if you’re travelling alone) and insecure (you’re in an unfamiliar environment) to the mix and you are in a prime position to turn on the waterworks.

Regarding loneliness: an article on crying on planes by The Atlantic makes the claim that crying in air often follows a specific set of triggers. And loneliness is one of them.

The article cites a study published in 2000 by Ad Vingerhoets – one of the world’s leading experts in crying.

According to The Atlantic, Vingerhoets’ team found that, among study participants, feelings of “separation” or “rejection” were overwhelmingly what made people cry, more so than “pain and injury” and “criticism.” They also found that of those who answered “rejection,” the most common subcategory selected was “loneliness.”

“The prototypical situations that induce crying are always related to loss or separation, and/or powerlessness,” the study found. Sound familiar?

Studies have also been done on grief, and how people often avoid grieving until they are alone and driving, because there are no distractions and they have the time and freedom for emotional processing and relief.

The Atlantic article suggests the same thing happens “when you finally sit down in your seat on an airplane.”

The idea being? After the hustle and bustle of life, or the emotional rollercoaster of seeing friends and family overseas (or the anticipation of organising your trip to go and see them), you’ve finally reached a moment of peace and relaxation, which could have been days, weeks, months or even years in the making.

What better to do than to have a big old cry?

How To Build Broad Shoulders, When You’re Skinny AF
How To Build Broad Shoulders, When You’re Skinny AF

If you really want to perfect the V-shaped upper body look and fill out your t-shirts, you need to be performing shoulder workouts, and one of the best has to be the lateral raise. On paper, performing lateral raises seems incredibly simple: just lift some weights up to your sides, and lower them again.

However, the lateral raise is one such shoulder exercise that many fall foul to, most commonly because of ego. Performing multiple sets and reps of lateral raises will cause your shoulders to fatigue incredibly quickly (and then cause you to use the wrong muscles to lift them).

This can lead to injury (and to your shoulders remaining stubbornly the same size). Suffice to say: lateral raises are an exercise where lifting lighter weights is not only accepted, it’s actively encouraged.

Lateral raises are also an exercise where you can fall foul to various opinions as to the best way to perform them. It’s with this in mind that you need to be careful about who, or where, you get your fitness advice.

British fitness coach Mike Thurston is one such man whom we deem to be a reliable source of information. His video content is clear and concise and, while it’s certainly true you shouldn’t necessarily just follow someone’s advice because they’re ridiculously jacked, Mike’s rig more than speaks for itself.

Taking to TikTok, Mike explains some common pitfalls when performing the lateral raise and how to correct them. He first confirms that “some form of lateral raise, whether it be cables, dumbbells etc, is one of the best exercises for developing broader, wider shoulders.”

While performing a seated dumbbell lateral raise (his comments are also applicable to a standing lateral raise), Mike says a lot of people “lean back and point their thumbs up. When they do this, they place a lot of tension on the front delt.” The front delt muscle is part of the overall shoulder muscle group, so will still strengthen the shoulders, but if you’re looking to create a broader figure, you need to be working the side of the shoulder muscle instead.

“In order to target the focus area,” Mike continues, “you need to lean forward, keep your arms straight and then lift the weight up, ensuring your hands are flat at the top. If you lean forward and do this, you’ll notice that the tension is now placed on the mid-delt.”

“If you do lots of reps, lots of sets, lots of volumes, it’s going to be a really good way to build your shoulder and give you that 3D look.”

Fellow British personal trainer Tom Bailey also has some top tips when performing dumbbell lateral raises, and he too has taken to TikTok to share them. One of his tips says to make sure you stop lifting the dumbbell when it reaches shoulder height.

The reason? “The higher the upper arm goes, the more the upper traps will contract.” In doing so, you remove the tension being placed on the shoulder muscles, effectively rendering the lateral raise pointless.

Tom further adds you shouldn’t lock down your shoulder blades when performing lateral raises. This could be something new to many since we’re often told we should lock down our shoulder blades in order to help generate stability and to prevent injury. However, in the case of the lateral raise, Tom says, you shouldn’t “lock down your shoulder blades to prevent your upper traps from working.”

“As your arms come up to the sides, the upper traps do have to work as they’re forced to stabilise. So feeling your upper traps work is normal for the exercise.” He adds, “If the upper traps are the only place you feel it, then they’re probably weak and will need strengthening.”

If you search ‘lateral raises’ online or on platforms such as Instagram, you will find a plethora of videos of ‘fitness experts’ telling you how to best perform them, but you’ll also quickly find a lot of videos may contradict each other. This is why it’s important to find accounts that provide information backed up by genuine experience or evidence.

Another fitness expert, Davis Diley, who has previously taught us how to perform a deadlift, has also weighed in on how to perform lateral raises. In his Instagram video, he says you should shift your arms forward by around 30-degrees, instead of lifting the weight out to your side. Doing so will place the “lateral deltoid in an advantageous position to be trained in the scapula plane, known as scaption.”

He then agrees with Mike’s comments, that you should lean forward slightly and “imagine that you’re pushing the weight away from you and out to the walls,” to help build wider shoulders.

See, we told you lateral raises weren’t so easy.
