Zenith Gets Extreme With ‘Kaleidoscopic’ New Watch Releases

If there’s been one runaway theme this year at Watches & Wonders, it’s been colour. The watchmaking industry’s most important trade show has seen over 40 brands (both in and out of the event) unveil literally hundreds of watches of all shapes and sizes, but some of the most exciting releases have also been the most colourful: take Cartier’s Tank Must collection, Hublot’s eye-catching ceramic Big Bang or Piaget’s verdant take on their thinnest watch ever. But Zenith’s contributions might just have the most polychromatic of all. The 156-year-old Le Locle brand unveiled ten new models this year, all of which are not only particularly colourful but represent some of Zenith’s most exciting technical innovations yet.The Defy 21 Spectrum collection stands out as the most glamorous of Zenith’s 2021 releases. Consists of five models that take on different frequencies of visible light (hence the moniker), the Spectrum collection takes the already eye-catching Defy 21 chronograph and adds 288 brilliant-cut diamonds as well as some seriously dramatic colours. If that wasn’t enough, the bezels are also adorned with colour-matched precious stones for an added level of luxe. These five references take ‘wrist candy’ to the next level, and each colour is limited to only 10 examples – so 50 total. Speaking of limited editions…

L-R: the Defy 21 ‘Felipe Pantone’ (ref. 49.9008.9004/49.R782) and the Defy 21 ‘Ultrablue’ (ref. 97.9001.9004/81.R946).
Another colourful limited edition unveiled at W&W was the Defy 21 ‘Felipe Pantone’. Produced in collaboration with the popular Argentine-Spanish contemporary artist that lends his name to the watch, the Felipe Pantone’s black ceramic case frames a design evocative of the colour wheel function within Photoshop or a draughtsman’s workbench, with grid lines and chromatic tones dancing across the dial. Its most striking feature of the 100-piece limited edition is the deliberately distorted hour and minute hands, which look almost pixelated; like they’ve turned anti-aliasing off on the watch. A grid-like design on the rubber strap complements the watch’s design.RELATED: IWC Schaffhausen Unveil Biggest Change Yet To Their Most Iconic WatchSomewhat more restrained than the Felipe Pantone or the Spectrums is the Defy 21 ‘Ultrablue’. A follow-up from 2020’s Defy 21 ‘Ultraviolet’, the Ultrablue features a super-clean design that lets the Defy 21’s signature open-worked movement pop, with key movement parts decked out in deep indigo. A comfortable ‘Cordura effect’ rubber strap complements the stylish timepiece.
On wrist: the Defy Extreme in matte titanium with rose gold highlights (ref. 87.9100.9004/03.I001).
Perhaps the most impressive reveal Zenith had in store for W&W was an entirely new collection. Taking design cues from 70s Zenith references with its highly faceted, angular case, the Defy Extreme is bold, masculine and a worthy addition to Zenith’s stable of timekeeping delights.Constructed from micro-blasted titanium and featuring a somewhat less busy dial and chunkier hands than some of its fellow Defy models, the Extreme launches with three different variants: a brushed titanium model with blue highlights, a matte titanium model with black highlights, and another matte model with rose gold highlights. Each are available with a matching titanium bracelet as well as a rubber strap and Velcro strap. All three Extreme references – indeed, all the Defy watches unveiled at W&W – feature Zenith’s truly impressive high-frequency El Primero 9004 movement. Zenith has long been a leader in high-frequency movements and this movement is a particularly exciting one. Accurate to up to one-hundredth of a second, the central chronograph seconds hand is capable of making a single rotation around the dial every second. That’s bloody fast and fun as hell to watch, too.So speed on into Zenith’s online boutique to have a squiz before they all race out of there. Go on, we’ll time you.

Live Auction Video Sums Up Australia’s ‘Insane’ Attitude To Property
Live Auction Video Sums Up Australia’s ‘Insane’ Attitude To Property

Aussies only want one thing… and it’s a f*ck off mansion. Not only that but we’ll pay (arguably) mansion-worthy prices for dilapidated inner-city houses filled with junk.In case we didn’t make our point… While Americans have NASDAQ and the S&P, Australians have their houses. While America has Robinhood and Wall Street, Australia has Vaucluse and Toorak.Though CommSec and co. are certainly burrowing into Australian psyche (and while, obviously, Australia has investment bankers too), when it comes to investment goals, in a climate where some houses are making more money than their owners, it’s generally agreed if you’re not getting in on the property market, you’re missing out. Why? As the ABC reported this morning (in an analysis piece), “in Australia housing is two things: accommodation and a form of speculation.”The gist? Australian house prices keep breaking records not because there aren’t enough homes (“The 2016 census found we had 12 per cent more dwellings than households, up from 10 per cent in 2001”) but because there are an increasing number of people buying property as an investment.Enter: the following video. Though we can’t assume to know whether the bidders in it were attempting to buy the home to live in it or to rent it out, the clip shows how hot the property market is right now.Posted to Youtube by Tom Panos Real Estate Training, the video shows a house in Sydney’s Earlwood – a suburb with a median sale price of 1.4 million – go under the hammer for $2.3 million (the sort of price you might normally associate with the Northern Beaches or Eastern Suburbs).

Its price may not be as crazy as it seems though. According to Smart Property Investment, “Earlwood ranks 1157th in NSW when it comes to estimated capital gains experienced by property investors over the past three years.”

“The suburb’s capital gain of 3.12% for the past year is higher than average compared to its 12.4% growth within a five-year period.”

“These figures put the ATC suburb in the ranks of the best performing suburbs in Australia in terms of capital gains.”Many have taken to Twitter to debate the merits (and pitfalls) of Australia’s increasing property prices over the years.

As the ABC reports: “Twenty years ago only one in 15 of us were landlords. It’s now one in 10 – more than two million of us.”

“To get those properties (other than where they’ve built them) they’ve had to outbid at auction the people who would have bought them to live in.”

“What appeared to set things off,” ABC reports, “was a decision by prime minister John Howard in 1999 to halve the headline rate of capital gains tax.”Though the intention was to encourage greater investment in cutting edge corporations, “rather than buy shares in innovative companies, Australians bought rental properties like they never had before,” the ABC reports.RELATED: Australia’s ‘House Porn’ Trend May Have A Lot To Answer For“If they bid enough,” the ABC continues, “they could borrow enough to negatively gear; to make sure their interest charges exceeded their income from rent, giving them annual losses they could offset against wages that would otherwise be taxed at high rates.”“There was nothing new about negative gearing. It had been permitted from the beginning. What was new was the opportunity to later sell the property at a profit, knowing only half of the profit would be taxed.”

“Investors could offset all of their losses and be taxed only half their eventual gain.”

The upshot? Australians have capitalised on buying investment properties in areas with limited supply, driving prices (seemingly) to absurd levels.

As the ABC puts it: “Houses in general mightn’t be a good investment (there being a regularly increasing supply) but houses in prime positions were in fixed supply, there being only so many good locations.”The article then cites father of modern economics John Maynard Keynes who said “we devote our intelligences to anticipating what average opinion expects the average opinion to be.”Now, the ABC writes, “It’s happening again.”“With mortgage rates at new extreme lows and wealthier Australians having come out of the crisis with their wealth intact, it makes sense to do what others are doing and push up prices to buy before others push them up further.”

“It’s nothing to do with a shortage of housing, but for many it will push home prices further out of reach.”

Hublot’s Colourful Watches & Wonders Reveal Has Fans Wanting More
Hublot’s Colourful Watches & Wonders Reveal Has Fans Wanting More

If you’re a watch fan (like me), Watches & Wonders is like Christmas come early. The week-long trade expo, the most important for the watch industry and one of the most elaborate trade shows in the world, is a veritable smorgasbord of horological delights. This year, the show was a mostly online affair, but if anything that raised the stakes even higher, with the world’s most prestigious brands furiously fighting it out for our attention. It’s been a wild ride. One watchmaker that stood out as having particularly unique products this year was Hublot. A relatively young brand compared to the centuries-old titans of the Swiss watch industry, Hublot has always prided itself on its iconoclastic, colourful character. And colourful is certainly the name of the game when it comes to their 2021 novelties. The most immediately eye-catching novelty they unveiled this year was the Big Bang Unico ‘Yellow Magic’ (ref. 441.CY.471Y.RX) – the world’s first bright yellow ceramic watch. Yellow is a particularly difficult colour to reproduce in a material such as ceramic, so it’s a real testament to Hublot’s R&D that they’ve been able to pull it off, and in such style, too.The 42mm super-sunny beauty isn’t all whoa and no go, either. A 72-hour power reserve, 100m water resistance, flyback chronograph functionality and a subtly introduced date window make this a thoroughly capable watch – and the beauty of that yellow ceramic is that it’s scratch-resistant, too. It’s the horological equivalent of a supercar.Indeed, one Instagram comment that stands out amongst the lavishing of praise Hublot’s received for the watch online reflects just that: “Wow… most people want to buy a Ferrari, I want to buy this.” Says it all, really.

L-R: the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire (ref. 455.JX.0120.JX) and the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon High Jewellery (ref. 455.WX.9000.WX.9904).
From colour to a total lack of it: another impressive watch Hublot unveiled at W&W 2021 was the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire (ref. 455.JX.0120.JX), which as the name implies, is totally made out of crystal sapphire (except for the movement).Previously, Hublot’s sapphire-cased models have come with matching translucent rubber straps, which certainly maintain that overall transparent theme, but arguably undermine the technical brilliance of their sapphire cases. Many unflattering (and somewhat unfair) comparisons to Casio G-Shocks or jelly sandals have been made about those straps before. But this new watch puts those snickers to rest, as its bracelet, as well as its case, is made out of sapphire. It’s hard to overstate just how impressive the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire. Even parts of the movement are made out of sapphire. Oh, and it has a tourbillon, in case all that crystal wasn’t enough of a flex. This is visual drama writ large.RELATED: TAG Heuer Make A Splash With New Aquaracer Collection At Watches & WondersA similarly luxe release emerged in the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon High Jewellery (ref. 455.WX.9000.WX.9904), which swaps sapphire crystal for hundreds of diamonds and white gold – an altogether different sort of shimmer. It features the same HUB6035 Manufacture Automatic Tourbillon movement its sapphire sibling does, but somehow manages to be even more visually impressive thanks to its sparkling cavalcade of precious gems. Not a watch for the faint of heart (or weak of wallet).
L-R: the Big Bang Sang Bleu II in blue ceramic (ref. 418.EX.5107.RX.MXM21), white ceramic (ref. 418.HX.2001.RX.MXM21) and grey ceramic (ref. 418.FX.8007.RX.MXM21).
Hublot also unveiled a new trio of new Big Bang Sang Bleu II models for all the design nerds in the audience. Sang Bleu is a multi-disciplinary creative agency based in London quite unlike anything else in the art world: tattoo art, industrial design, print media and typography are just some of the fields they’re involved in, and have enjoyed a fertile partnership with Hublot since 2016.Featuring distinctive, geometric designs – a theme that defines Sang Bleu founder Maxime Plescia-Büchi’s artistic practice – these are some seriously futuristic watches. Available in blue ceramic (ref. 418.EX.5107.RX.MXM21), white ceramic (ref. 418.HX.2001.RX.MXM21) and grey ceramic (ref. 418.FX.8007.RX.MXM21), these 45mm chronographs are true statement pieces. Very sci-fi.RELATED: A. Lange & Söhne’s ‘Ultimate Chronograph’ Now The Ultimate Statement PieceIn summary? Hublot continues to reaffirm its position as one of the most avant-garde and intriguing watch manufacturers coming out of Switzerland – or anywhere, really. Full of fun yet technically impressive, 2021’s novelties will have watch fans talking for ages… And demanding more, no doubt.

Redditors Reveal What It’s Like To Settle For A Partner Who Isn’t ‘The One’
Redditors Reveal What It’s Like To Settle For A Partner Who Isn’t ‘The One’

The world of dating revolves around the elusive ‘one’. The one person on the planet who ticks all of our boxes, meets our needs and whom we ever wondered how we managed life without. Some people don’t believe in the concept, instead going with the notion that there could, in fact, be several people ‘out there’ who we could enjoy a fruitful life with. After all, there are more than 7.5 billion people on planet Earth.Navigating such a populated minefield is hard at times, and near impossible at others, although the global lockdown brought about the idea ‘the one’ could have been right under our nose the whole time and it just took us not being able to leave the house to find them. Then there’s the possibility that dating apps want us to stay single forever, so making finding the one that little bit more difficult, or it could just be your attachment type plays a much greater role in determining if you have a successful relationship than you realised. For others, they do believe their soulmate exists and when they believe they’ve found them, they put a ring on them and tie them down until death do them part. Then, as one now-viral Reddit thread reveals, some people simply – and in many cases knowingly – settle down with someone they don’t feel like is ‘the one’ but rather ‘one that will do.’Posted just 8 days ago at the time of writing (and brought to our attention by the Daily Mail), the thread, which asks “Women who settled for someone that you knew wasn’t the one but was otherwise a good person, how is it going?”, has received over 700 comments from women regaling their relationship woes. Here are their stories. The vast majority of comments relate to women who ended it with their partners after realising they weren’t the same person they originally fell in love with:“Finally ended it just under three years ago, after a decade of on and off. Now living a happy life with someone, who is definitely the one.”

“Similar situation. Spent many years in a meh relationship, on and off. Finally ended it and now I am very much in love in a healthy relationship. Ladies, don’t settle! On the long run is better to change.”

“My dad settled for my mom. Divorced 15-20 years in, idk exactly. He’s much much much happier now. Living his best life in a different state with a new wife that he is desperately in love with. You’ll find the right one.”He turned out not to be a good person and I left him.”

Others talk to the subject of their boyfriend or husband simply wanting to find and marry a woman as a status symbol, or because they felt like it was something they had to do (to get a girlfriend) because it’s what society dictates.

“It became clear after 8 months in that he never wanted a relationship, just a girlfriend as a sign of successful “adulting” and to not show up at family functions alone anymore. All the time, I was completely committed to the relationship even though I knew he wasn’t the one from the get-go.”

“My dad married my mom for the same reason – he was insecure and just wanted to show off to the world that he could “score” a smart and beautiful woman. After they got married and had three kids together, my dad became increasingly controlling and abusive until my parents got divorced 15 years later.”And then there are stories from women who settled and are still in those settled relationships because it feels like the easiest thing to do (or because it actually ended up working out)…“Ups and downs for six years now. He works long hours and I love spending time on my own! It’s harder when we have his kids as I have no desire to be a mother, but I’m better at organizing than him, so take on a child minder role anyway. Hoping for the world to open up soon, as one of the things we enjoy is a romantic get-away. I love him, but I’m not in love with him. But that’s enough for me, as he is one of three men I have ever been interested in. I don’t(and have never) get crushes. I think I’m a bit asexual. Oh and even greater now as we found a rental house instead of a flat and I have gotten cats!!!”…to those from women who dismiss the idea of ‘the one’ entirely,

“Married for 28 years! We have had our ups and downs, but to be honest he was the one, I just didn’t know it at the time. Sometimes “the one” is an ideal based on youthful priorities, but with maturity, you realize some of those qualities aren’t as important anymore. My husband is my best friend, but whether you marry “the one” or someone else, a good relationship requires hard work and give and take. We have been through many events together, and we grew closer as a result. We are a team!”

“Seeing all of these comments, I’m really wary of people believing they need to find “the one”. No relationship is perfect and takes absolutely no work, and oftentimes, you can cultivate a relationship that is fulfilling and adds a richness to life for both parties. The expectations we put on finding a life partner are honestly ridiculous and downright damaging.”

This Stunning European Holiday Destination Will Pay You To Visit From June

Buy some sunscreen and break out the champagne – Malta will pay you to visit its shores this summer (if you can get there). The European island nation, sitting pretty in the Mediterranean Sea, is looking to jolt its tourism economy into action by helping cover the cost of hotels for travellers arriving from June. The scheme was unveiled last Friday, and is the brainchild of the Malta Tourism Authority.“Visitors who book a three-night stay in select hotels will receive compensation on a scaled basis and the amounts will be matched by hotels,” Yahoo! News reports.“For example, those who book into one of the select five star hotels will receive €100 [AUD $156] from Malta Tourism Authority and €100 [AUD $156] from the hotel for a total of €200 [AUD $312] per person, per booking.”Meanwhile, those at the four-star hotels included in the program will get €150 (AUD $234) per person, per booking and those at three-star hotels included in the program will get €100 (AUD $156) per person, per booking.“Those who stay on Malta’s smaller island of Gozo will also receive an additional 10% on top of their compensation,” (Yahoo! News).RELATED: Portugal Lures Travellers With Little Known ‘Amalfi Coast Alternative’Malta has always held an allure, but in recent years has been gently elbowed out of the limelight as an ‘on-trend’ holiday destination by the likes of Positano, The Amalfi Coast, Mykonos, Santorini, Ibiza, Sardinia, etc.In an age where tourists are reportedly sick of other tourists, perhaps this adds to Malta’s mysterious (and subsidized) new pull?

From windy streets to clifftop views reminiscent of Capri or Alicudi, Malta has more attractions than you can throw a scuba mask or architectural site map at.RELATED: ‘At Alicudi We Bite’: Italian Island Locals Don’t Want You To VisitAccording to the OECD, “Tourism is an important contributor to Malta’s economy, directly supporting 33 180 jobs and 14.9% of total employment in 2018. The contribution of tourism to Malta’s GDP in 2018 was 12.8%, making tourism one of the top five contributors to the economy.”Malta Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo said in a statement: “The scheme is aimed at putting Malta’s hotels in a very competitive position as international tourism restarts.”

French Lawmakers Vote To Ban Short Domestic Flights
French Lawmakers Vote To Ban Short Domestic Flights

French lawmakers have voted to ban short-haul internal flights where passengers could otherwise go by train. This comes in an attempt to reduce carbon emissions. The vote took place over the weekend. As the BBC reports, “lawmakers voted in favour of a bill to end routes where the same journey could be made by train in under two-and-a-half hours.”The move is also not yet law – the proposal faces a further vote in the Senate before that happens. As for specific cities likely to be affected, “The measures could affect travel between Paris and cities including Nantes, Lyon and Bordeaux,” the BBC reports. This isn’t the first time a proposal of this kind has been put forward. France’s Citizens’ Convention on Climate, a group created in 2019, had suggested scrapping plane journeys that replaced train journeys of under four hours. The World Economic Forum reports that this move is part of the government’s climate bill, which aims to cut French carbon emissions by 40% in 2030 from 1990 levels.

It also reports, “before this bill was passed the state also said it would contribute to a 4 billion euro ($4.76 billion) recapitalisation of Air France, to help its recovery from COVID-19.”Industry Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher has denied there is a contradiction between the bailout and the climate bill.“We know that aviation is a contributor of carbon dioxide and that because of climate change we must reduce emissions,” she told Europe 1 radio. “Equally, we must support our companies and not let them fall by the wayside.”This comes at a time where the aviation industry has been decimated by coronavirus, with plane boneyards around the world showing the state the industry is truly in, and with “billions of dollars worth of passenger jets… waiting out the pandemic.”Though European train prices have a reputation for being expensive (hence the historic success of Ryanair and EasyJet), train tickets appear to currently be quite reasonable (perhaps due to the lack of demand). A return trip right now with Renfe from Bordeaux to Biarritz, for instance, will cost you 52 euros.A return flight from Bordeaux to Biarritz, in contrast, will set you back $500 or so dollars (300 odd euros).Maybe the train isn’t such a bad option after all. The environment will even thank you for it.

Rapper French Montana Wears The Menswear Brand Everyone Should Be Rocking This Summer
Rapper French Montana Wears The Menswear Brand Everyone Should Be Rocking This Summer

French Montana is one of the most quietly successful members of the modern hip-hop fraternity.Known for his collaborations with artists like A$AP Rocky, Jennifer Lopez and Rick Ross, the 36-year-old’s woozy, self-aggrandising music set the blueprint for much of rap’s current direction. More crucially, however, French Montana ‘s known for dressing remarkably well. Hell, he even has a single with Drake called No Stylist, where they brag about – you guessed it – not needing someone to help them dress. An odd boast, but a catchy one.Seems as if it’s a boast French Montana can back up, too. Teasing yet another upcoming musical collaboration with the Canadian superstar, Montana shared a photo of the pair last week, both men showing off some seriously expensive watches: Drake with his custom 1017 ALYX 9SMAudemars Piguet Royal Oak and Montana with an iced-out Rolex Day-Date.But it’s not the watches that impressed us, it was French Montana ‘s stylish-looking shirt. A silk number from rising luxury fashion label Casablanca Paris, it’s a delightfully retro look and underscores just how wildly successful (and increasingly essential) the brand, which has been dubbed “the Hermès of Generation Z”, has become.

Founded by French-Moroccan fashion heavyweight Charaf Tajer (co-founder of cult Parisian basketball brand Pigalle and previously a consultant for Louis Vuitton creative director Virgil Abloh), Casablanca Paris is known for its luxurious materials and irreverent designs, featuring an aesthetic that’s somewhat similar to Gucci’s current design language under Alessandro Michele but less severe; less kitschy.Their silk shirts are a particular highlight. Elaborate retro prints with an unmistakable joie de vivre characterise the collection. It’s high fashion, but fun – something that we all need a bit of in 2021.French Montana (real name Karim Kharbouch) actually shares a surprising connection with Casablanca Paris: he was actually born in Casablanca (the city, not the clothes). He emigrated from Morocco to the United States at the age of 13, learning how to speak English and then rap on the streets of New York.It makes sense, then, that he’d choose a brand that shares his Moroccan heritage, French influences and summery American aesthetic. We love a melding of worlds.

A. Lange & Söhne’s ‘Ultimate Chronograph’ Now The Ultimate Statement Piece
A. Lange & Söhne’s ‘Ultimate Chronograph’ Now The Ultimate Statement Piece

A. Lange & Söhne is one of the most unique watchmakers on the planet. Founded by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Germany in 1845, the highly prestigious firm has a long history of producing some of the most refined, complicated and stylish timepieces in horological history.Watches & Wonders, the industry’s most important trade show, used to be quite a monumental affair for the brand – quite literally. Lange would construct an almost 5m tall model of a single watch right in the middle of their booth as an emphatic and dramatic way of unveiling new models. W&W 2021 might have been a mostly virtual affair this year, but that didn’t stop Lange from making some monumental releases. Not at all.The key Lange release from this year’s show was a new version of their groundbreaking Triple Split chronograph. First released back in 2018, the Triple Split was the world’s first mechanical split-seconds chronograph that allowed for multi-hour comparative time measurements. What does that mean? As way of an example, the Triple Split can compare the times of two opponents in a race, time consecutively starting events or add the times of multi-hour events. So it might look very fancy (and it is) but it’s also a truly innovative tool: a deeply impressive example of haute horlogerie from a watchmaker where high complications are the norm. No wonder they call it “the ultimate chronograph”.

L-R: the Triple Split, pink gold with dial in blue (ref. 424.037) and the Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar, pink gold with dial in grey (ref. 345.033).
A very technical yet remarkably elegant watch – Lange’s bread and butter, really – it remains an impressive and desirable watch. 2021’s model (ref. 424.037), a limited edition of only 100 pieces, turns things up to 11 with its pink gold and deep blue construction: a truly regal combination that suits the timepiece perfectly. If having a Lange rattrapante wasn’t already a huge statement, having one in blue and gold certainly is.RELATED: Piaget Make The Competition ‘Green With Envy’ With World’s Thinnest WatchFor the real purists, Lange also unveiled a new iteration of their flagship model, the Lange 1: the Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar. It’s a case of less is more, because it’s actually the first Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar that doesn’t come paired with other high complications. We’d say it’s a case of ‘less is more’ but there’s still plenty going on with this model.Fully focused on its eponymous complication, key features include the iconic Lange outsize date, an innovative ring for the month indication at the periphery of the dial, and a moon-phase display that points out whether it is day or night. It’s also a smidge under 42mm in case diameter – a fairly standard size in today’s watch world but a rather small size for Lange (we’re not complaining, however). It’s available in pink gold with a grey dial, a pretty classic Lange combination (ref. 345.033) or – in a limited edition of 150 watches – in white gold with a solid pink-gold dial (ref. 345.056).
L-R: the Little Lange 1 Moon Phase, white gold with gold-flux-coated dial in dark-blue (ref. 182.086) and the same with a diamond-set bezel (ref. 182.886).
Lange’s first two W&W releases are impressive because of their technical wizardry, but the last one is impressive because of its beauty. Lange also unveiled a new take on their Little Lange 1 range: two new Moon Phase models with a truly impressive dial finish. It’s called ‘gold flux’: a solid silver base coated with a transparent medium, through which particles of gold and rhodium are scattered, resembling the night sky and giving the dial a remarkable depth. It’s a stunning effect that Lange have only previously used on much less complicated models, so to see it here on the Little Lange 1 Moon Phase (ref. 182.086) is a real treat. If a 37mm moon phase piece from Lange with a uniquely beautiful dial wasn’t already enough to have you reach for your wallet, Lange has also released a variant with a diamond-set bezel (ref. 182.886). The 56 brilliant-cut diamonds paired with the deep blue gold flux dial make this more sparkly than the Milky Way on Earth Day.But which of Lange’s 2021 models to pick? That’s a decision we’ll leave to you…

Secret ‘Melbourne’ Sunrise Spot Few Australians Know About
Secret ‘Melbourne’ Sunrise Spot Few Australians Know About

Australia is full of surprises. From Maldives-looking beaches hanging off South Australia to Greek Island alternatives cruising off Port Stephens, the last 12 months have shown that we can be almost as intrepid as we are imaginative. But just as we thought we were done having our minds opened to new nooks, last week Melbourne Creative Director/Entrepreneur Peter Yan took to Instagram with a video of a Melbourne-adjacent clifftop vantage point we had never seen before.Enter: Point Addis.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Peter Yan (@yantastic)

“If you’re in Melbourne you need to check out this breathtaking sunrise spot – Point Addis. I would’ve walked to the ‘point’ but I’m afraid of heights,” Peter captioned the video. The video shows Peter’s point of view – strolling across the point – before turning back (and giving the viewer glimpses of either side of the lookout along the way).Interest piqued? Point Addis is on the Great Ocean Road and – according to Walking Maps, is, “a beautiful walk with clifftop views and long sandy beaches on part of Victoria’s premier coastline” as well as “a year round favourite with so much to see and even swim in the warmer months too.”

There can also be nice waves (see above).Point Addis is a protected marine national park located near Anglesea in Victoria, and is about a 2 hour drive from Melbourne (and a cool 10 and a half hours from Sydney).

Image: Google Maps
Despite our ignorance of the spot (we’re not the only ones – DMARGE correspondents who have lived in Melbourne their whole lives have confirmed they had no idea it existed) this is not the first time the vantage point has appeared in the highlights reel of a travel blogger or creative.Lucy Adamopoulos, whose picture appears at the top of this article, told DMARGE, “I found out about the spot from my cousin. She got married and had a few photos taken on the point (recommended by their photographer). I think it’s a known spot to locals but not widely exposed outside of the community.”

“We entered via a dirt path just up the road from the main walking path. We found the path on Google Maps.”

“It took us less than 5 mins to get to the point; extremely easy and quick to find.”“It was completely empty, no one around. In saying that there isn’t much room to ‘hang out.’”From Adventure Travel and Documentary Filmmaker Bryan Hynes to explorer Jacob Heston, the place has cropped up numerous times under the ‘Point Addis’ Instagram geotag.
