For the uninitiated techie, Hyperloop is the name of a new high speed transportation system dreamt up by the man behind PayPal, SpaceX and Tesla.
Elon Musk is his name and his latest venture is a levitating train inside a vacum tube that can travel up to 1,200km/h to get commuters across long distances in short amounts of time. Think San Francisco to Los Angeles in as little as thirty minutes.
Knowing those few little details, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies have today showed off concept images of their interior which includes leather seating, faux augmented reality windows (real windows would be pointless since the whole trip is inside a loop) and what appears to be an aisle made just for skinny people. Of course being just concept designs, the sterile looking cabin is bound to change as further research progresses.
What is cool however is the latest announcement that sees Hyperloop using a new material called Vibranium on the outside and inside layers of its carriages. If Vibranium sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the rare (and made up) super metal used to make Captain America’s shield.
The Hyperloop version however isn’t metal and is actually a new carbon fibre composite made by Slovakian materials company c2i. The Vibranium will be embedded throughout the shell on the inside and outside whilst feeding information back to a command centre to evaluate data such as the carriage’s stability, temperature and integrity – very important factors when travelling at such speeds with people’s lives at stake.
If a pod is damaged, the command centre will know and the train will be removed from service for repair. According to c2i, their Vibranium is ten times stronger than steel and weighs five times less than alluminium.

We all know that keeping the kilos down isn’t helped by binging on beer, or any kind of booze for that matter. In fact, a single glass of white wine contains about 90 calories and even worse, a regular beer contains about 150, so when you’re smashing 3-5 at the pub, you may as well have eaten dinner, twice. If you aren’t willing to part ways with your drinking habits, at least make them slightly less damaging with these 6 alcoholic drinks that will keep you healthy during happy hour.
#1 Champagne Spritzer
According to Lori Zanini, spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, if you’re celebrating with some champers, make it a spritzer. By adding pomegranate juice and strawberries to your champagne you’re keeping portions in check and upping your antioxidant intake.
#3 Wine
Thought all wine did was give you a mind-numbing headache and stained teeth? Think again. Leslie Bonci of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center says, “I can have a glass or two, I get some health benefits from the phytonutrients like resveratrol in red, and I don’t feel deprived or inebriated.” Wine also only has about 300 calories, but that of course depends on whether you’re drinking from a magnificent goblet or standard glass.
#4 Neat On The Rocks
Vodka, gin, whisky and scotch are all healthiest served neat on the rocks. As far as hangovers go, it’s the clearer types of alcohol that go easier on the body and on calories. One serving of vodka contains only 97 calories and zero carbs, gin has about 110 calories and zero carbs. They’re also designed to be sipped, which means you’ll take your time before tucking into another drink.
#5 Dark Beer
Dark beer isn’t the lowest calorie drink on the menu but because they are notoriously rich, they take longer to consume which means you’ll be less likely to make multiple trips to the bar for refills. “Think of it like the difference between eating a big cheap chocolate bar or a smaller piece of high quality chocolate,” says Jenna Braddock, founder of Make Healthy Easy.
#6 Rum & Diet Coke
If you have a sweet tooth but want to avoid the calories then replace your full strength coke with a diet version. “It’s a great option for people who like a sweeter drink, but because you’re using diet soda there’s no extra calories besides what’s in the alcohol,” says Torey Armul, spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.[via Prevention & Medical Daily]

H&M’s creative advisor, Ann-Sofie Johansson, is looking forward to the new pairing saying, “we can’t wait to share with everyone the world of Kenzo x H&M with all of its creativity, fun and love of fashion.”

Australians love a photography competition, and why wouldn’t we when we’ve got such stunning landscapes worth capturing? Wiki Loves Earth, a nature photography competition organised by Wikipedia is open to Australians for the first time with some pretty stunning results.
The competition was first run in Ukraine in 2013 and has since spread globally, described as the “sister competition” to Wiki Loves Monuments which is recognised by Guinness Book of Records as the largest photo competition in the world.
The competition is running until the end of May and has already clocked up over 1,000 entries. The 10 best Australian photographers selected by the competition’s judges will win $100 each and be entered in the international competition, held this August.
The competition also serves as Wikipedia’s clever way of building the Wikimedia Commons website, a repository images and other digital media free to use for non-commercial purposes. “There are definitely places that we don’t have photographs of or articles on as of yet because people who contribute to Wikipedia haven’t been out there,” said committee member Steven Crossin. “This competition gives us that ability to capture places we haven’t before.”
If you’re keen to get stuck into some nature photography you can enter the competition for free via the WLE Australia Page until May 31.

To call Kanye West a loose canyon would be an understatement. From his uninhibited Twitter rants to his unforgettable Taylor Swift stage crash at the Grammys, Kanye has provided plenty of entertainment over the years and is showing no sign of slowing down with details of his crazy antics recently exposed by his former security guard.
Former New York cop Steve Stanulis worked as Kanye’s security guard for a measly two weeks, but even in that time his experiences with the rapper were…interesting to say the least.
Speaking to the British newspaper The Sun, Stanulis revealed that even on his first day he was stuck in a sticky situation with Kanye. “When we got into the elevator Kanye just stood there with his arms folded and said, ‘Aren’t you going to press the button?’. I told him, ‘I have never been here, I don’t know which floor.’ He flipped out, squealing that his time was precious and he couldn’t believe I hadn’t called ahead to find out which floor he worked on.”
If that wasn’t enough of a shitty start to your new job, Stanulis said it was almost impossible to predict what would set Kanye off.
“There was a new security guard and on his first day he wore red-coloured sneakers and Kanye didn’t like it at all. The guy also touched Kanye’s shoulder while guiding him through paparazzi into his car. Even though the bodyguard was just doing his job Kanye turned around and snapped, ‘Don’t you ever touch me.’
“Within two hours I got a call to say the guy had been sacked.” Ouch.
Apparently, Kanye gets particularly pissy with his security guards when it comes to paparazzi. “He got annoyed because I ‘got in his shot’ once when the paparazzi were taking pictures. He absolutely adores the attention,” Stanulis said. “On another occasion when we were in the studio, he walked past a couple of his other bodyguards as they were chatting, then turned and demanded, ‘Can you two not talk when I walk by you'”
Once Kanye stormed out of the studio after an argument with someone and Stanulis was sent to go and find him. “I discovered him walking down the side of a busy highway and went to pick him up.” But before getting in the car, Kanye insisted that dad-of-three Stanulis remove the child seats in the back so he could sit there. Stanulis refused, “and after a sulk he climbed in the front.”
Then there was the time Stanulis took a tipsy Kanye back to his hotel room. At 5am after directing Stanulis to what was clearly the wrong room actually occupied by a party of Italian dignitaries, Kanye started yelling and screaming, “Don’t you know who I am? I’m Mr. West!’ to which the guys looked blank and curtly replied, ‘No’
The last straw for Stanulis was the night of the recent Met Ball. West demanded to be driven there in a sports car rather than the booked limousine. “They were struggling to locate one on such short notice, so I went up to their floor to find out what was happening. I ran into Kim in the hallway but before I had a chance to say anything Kanye emerged. I said: “How are you doing today, Mr West?”
“He ignored me, walked into his room and shut the door abruptly,” he said. “After that they left for the ball without me. Shortly afterwards I was told my services were no longer required.”
Woh. Stanulis also said Kanye goes through a lot of guys and some don’t even last the first hour. “…working with Kanye is like sleeping with your crazy ex-girlfriend. You say you are never going to go there again and then you do.”
We would like to introduce to you ladies and gentlemen, the real Mr. Kanye West.

We enter the workforce with the idea of having a job that is truly satisfying – the kind of job that doesn’t feel like work at all. (That’s the dream, right?)
If you’ve found that job or dream career, run with it, enjoy it and savour it. I know from personal experience that it is truly possible to get job satisfaction from a practical career choice.
Yet for many, it’s just pure fantasy, because the cold hard facts are that their current job brings little meaning and fulfillment. In fact, their attempts to reach their career goals or dream career have brought nothing but stress, worry, and disappointment. Being stuck in a job that to put it frankly “sucks” is no fun, and for whatever reason you’ve made up in your mind you can’t or won’t leave, you feel despondent and destined to stay frustrated, embarrassed, unhappy. You’re convinced you will lose your mind.
What can you do if you don’t love your job? There are ways to make the best of a less than ideal situation. What you can do about it is to figure out first what you don’t like about your job and if there is anything you can do to fix it.
To make it easy for you, I’ve listed the top 6 reasons we can hate our jobs and how to make a bad job better.
Problem: ‘I’m not being paid enough.’
Reason: Every time you look at your bank balance you grumble. Job dissatisfaction can come from our perception of pay inequality and not the actual amount. Workers can feel that their pay does not reflect their level of skill, training, effort or dedication to their job.
Solution: Look to how you can be promoted to a higher paying job in the organisation. In order to do that, you need to spend less time focused on your paycheck and more time looking for ways to increase your performance and find satisfaction beyond remuneration. Some examples that can help you stand out in your current role are:
- Get an early win by identifying immediate contributions you could make to the team
- Implement something new that would increase efficiency
- Bring one big idea to the table
- Express curiosity by asking questions and being open and thoughtful
- Understand your company’s vision and ask questions about strategy and key performance
- Exhibit good time management skills and prioritise your work
Problem: ‘My boss drives me crazy.’
Reason: Your boss is incompetent or doesn’t recognise your efforts leaving you feeling resentful.
Solution: We’ve all complained about our boss from time to time. Good leadership challenges us, and we feel recognised for the good work we’ve done, but dealing with a truly incompetent boss is exhausting and frustrating. Some strategies for handing the situation are to create a personal boundary and know your psychological limits, so you don’t let the circumstances get you down.
The conflict between an incompetent boss and employer can be daunting so to handle these situations well; I’d suggest you never react to verbal abuse or harsh criticism with emotion. If your boss likes to intimidate or is a control freak, then the best way to deal with their behaviour is to remain calm and acknowledge their position. The key is to discuss rather than confront. Keep it professional and remember you don’t have to like your boss. Lastly, having empathy resists the temptation to demonise your boss and to be open to their perspective.
Problem: ‘My job is so boring.’
Reason: You lack motivation or feel underutilized in your current role seeking solace in surfing online shopping sites and updating your social media profiles.
Solution: Often, if you are bored at work it’s because you’ve been doing the same thing for too long, and you are not challenging yourself. Another reason is that your boss isn’t aware that you want to move up the ladder and happy to keep you in your job, so he’s not challenging you. Don’t just sit rotting away at your desk. You have to take initiative and let your boss know that you want to more opportunities to learn and demonstrate your skills.
Problem: ‘I hate my team.’
Reason: It could be that you are not a perfect fit for your organisation’s work culture and feel left out or scapegoated. Some people see the work as a competitive environment and it you’re not competitive, you are going to resent the person next to you who’s always trying to one up you to impress the boss.
Solution: Bullying and misbehaviour make it complex, but I’d suggest focusing on what ways you can make the environment less stressful such as requesting a desk change, take your lunch hour earlier, or as a last resort giving yourself a time limit that if you don’t get promoted, or your work environment gets better, you’ll look for a new job.
Problem: ‘The job has long hours.’
Reason: You could have poor time management skills or have difficulty saying no.
Solution: Talk to your superiors about ways you can be helped to prioritise better and organise your workload. What time management can you do to become more efficient, organised and productive e.g. prioritising getting those important tasks done so you have more family time, and leave the office at a reasonable hour. So if you want to be good at time management, love the to-do list, and there are many great smart phone apps like Wunderlist, Google Keep, Any.do or Todoist that can sync with your computer and other apps.
We can sometimes find ourselves dealing with unreasonable work requests i.e. short time frames, or requests outside our responsibilities or talents. Having good time management skills sometimes means saying no to work colleagues or the boss. We fear saying no because we don’t want to disappoint, displease or lose our job. However when you say something like, ‘I’m away from my desk right now, when I have my diary in front of me, can I let you know?’ can help bide some time. You could request priority from your boss by asking, ‘Which one do you think I need to focus on first?’ Or ‘If I do this, what would you like me to stop working on?’ All of the above can help you to reclaim your energy, confidence, and control over your day.
Problem: ‘This career is not for me.’
Reason: Monday morning swings around. You know you should feel excited to get to work and face the challenges ahead, but you don’t. You feel bored, unfulfilled and simply fed up.
Solution: Find fulfilment outside of the 9-5. Maybe you fell into your job from high school or picked jobs because of the prestige, ease or money. Maybe you wanted to please the family or were influenced by your peers. In my coaching session it’s not uncommon for me to hear clients say, ‘After all the training and degrees, I hate the work that I do’. What’s missing is that they haven’t connected with their true authentic self. It’s through a process of self-discovery where you meet your own expectations and not society or family. So to rediscover your passion again it consists of sequentially answering these three questions:
Who am I?
What is it I want to do?
How do I get that job?
Ask yourself honestly, what is the truth behind your dream today and how can you reconnect and incorporate that dream into your life? If you wanted to be an actor but your parents pushed you into marketing then join a local theatre group. If you wanted to work in social work but the pay convinced you to become a psychologist then volunteer as a crisis counsellor in a low-income neighbourhood. You can still focus on your dream.
When you are dissatisfied with your current job, this tends to play a major influence on your overall outlook on life. I hope these tips can help you make a bad job better and feel less dissatisfied about the situation you are in.

It may look like a desolate wasteland for old ships from Star Wars, but make no mistake, these were all war machines of the Kremlin’s past.
Danila Tkachenko is the man who photographed a series of stunning images for his series and book entitled Restricted Areas.
Amongst the 33 abandoned relics sitting at the Russian Air Force Museum is a Bartini Beriev VVA-14. The plane was left to rust after its prototype crashed and its designer died.
The eery reference to the cold war is both unnerving and beautifully captured, even relinquishing the fact that the time held a major threat for world annihilation.
Tkachenko however sees it all in a much different light. “My project is a metaphor [for] post-technology apocalypse,” he told Wired.

The book name itself borrows from the dozens of Russian “secret cities” which housed the government’s top secret information scientific programs. These particular secret cities were closed to everyone and could only be accessed by people who worked at the facilities.
Today those facilities still stand abandoned and frozen in time. To capture the degrading nature of the surroundings, Tkachenko spent three Winters on the sites whilst traversing through Russia, Kazakhstan and Bulgaria.
Tkachenko added that he “wanted to show the other side of progress and technology”.
“It’s not always leading us to better future, but can also be a failure or bring destruction.”
