David Goggins is a man who knows how to deal with adversity and to constantly maintain motivation, previously calling out those who only do the “bare minimum.” But there could well come a time in your training journey that you will become injured. In this instance, how do you overcome and come back stronger?
Once again, David can speak from experience. In November 2021, Goggins posted a video to his Instagram showing edema on his leg. He finally elected to have surgery to fix it and, instead of taking the time off to rest, he switched up his usual running and cardio training for strength training. This not only helped him improve his strength, but it kept him in a good state mentally (plus, strength training can still help you lose fat).
Now, just yesterday (at the time of publishing) David Goggins shared another video on his Instagram account of him back outside running. Alongside the video, he added a caption claiming to overcome his leg injury was his toughest challenge yet…remember, he used to be a Navy SEAL, so it’s fair to say that his edema was no joke.
“This was probably the hardest rehab of my entire life. I truly didn’t think I would ever run again,” Goggins claimed.
But, while hitting the weights instead of the tarmac helped keep him sane and busy, just how did he come back from having some major surgery on his leg? His answer, become fuelled by the hate received.
“About halfway through my journey, I had a lot of bad days so I went onto social media and into the email account filled with countless comments and emails from the haters and read some of the worst shit about me I have ever seen.”
“People hoping I would never run again, saying it was the result of my stupidity and that I deserved it and worse. I never thought I would discover so much gold.”
“I never waste these comments and emails. While I may block and delete your asses, I screenshot all of them and used them to make a Goggins remix, one of my new mental tactics. I read some of the worst shit into a recorder to create my own playlist.”
Unless these comments of hate are well-buried within the comments section on the original video, there’s a good chance they’ve been deleted.
“I found what puts me to sleep like a baby is listening to all that shit talking. It truly refreshes me. I have very vivid dreams about the anger you will feel when I am back out there doing what I do,” David continues.
“Well, today I felt so good that I woke up and ran an easy 8 and then went back out for another 15 miles with my girl.”
“Never waste that good hate out there! Archive it and put that shit to good use!”
The takeaway? No matter how tough you may find a situation (it doesn’t even have to be an injury), there will always be a path to take to help you overcome it. You may need to think outside the box a little bit (apologies for the cliche) but giving up or giving in shouldn’t be an option.

The NSW government is splashing some cash on shark mitigation. This was announced on Saturday. In the short term, a record $4.4 million is going into immediate mitigation methods, and in the longer term, the NSW government has promised ongoing funding of more than $85 million to continue the strategy until 2026.
Minister for Agriculture Dugald Saunders has said shark interactions are always possible, no matter what technologies are deployed, however, it is important for the NSW Government to do everything they can to reduce that risk.

This is particularly poignant in the wake of the tragic shark attack that occurred at Little Bay earlier this year.
“The tragic event that happened at Little Bay earlier this year was a tough reminder that whilst we’ve been able to coexist for decades relatively safely, sharks do exist and they can pose a significant risk to humans,” Mr Saunders said.

The primary immediate measures being taken are SMART drumlines, SMART listening stations and Rapid Response Vehicles.
SMART drumlines already exist along much of the NSW coastline, and judging by SharkSmart’s maps that are currently on its website, it appears only one new location – Eurobodalla – is being added (that said, Mr Saunders says 60 extra SMART Drumlines are being added. It remains unclear as to exactly where, but we’d guess they are being added to exiting locations on the map, which already have some SMART drumlines. Either that or this is an old map from SharkSmart).
A slew of new listening station locations are due to be added though, with proposed listening station locations being added to SharkSmart’s map in Tweed, Byron, Ballina, Richmond Valley, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Mid Coast, Lake Macquarie, Waverly, Kiama, Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley.
You can use the SharkSmart app to see the latest updates and information gathered.
“We are not only announcing immediate additional response capabilities, including more Shark Listening Stations, SMART Drumlines and Rapid Response Vehicles, but we’re also committing to ongoing funding for future mitigation to protect our beachgoers for years to come,” Mr Saunders said.
The immediate additional response package, according to the NSW Government, includes 10 additional VR4G Listening Stations, 60 extra SMART drumlines, 500 more shark tags to trace sharks caught on expanded drumline roll out, funding for four more Rapid Response Vessels, Long Range Drone Trials in partnership with Surf Life Saving NSW, additional Surf Life Saving resources to increase their presence at beaches; and applied research into wetsuit materials to reduce the impact of shark attacks.
The $85.6 million 2022-2026 Shark Mitigation Program will include the extension of the 51 nets as part of the Shark Meshing Program deployed seasonally, the continuity and expansion of the SMART drumline program, the establishment of a First Responder Team based across NSW to coordinate the government’s response to shark incidents, keeping the NSW Government’s 37 shark listening stations across the coast, more funding to Surf Life Saving NSW to continue and expand aerial surveillance using drones across the state’s coastline, funding to continue to enable Surfing NSW to provide shark mitigation supports and services such as trauma kits during riding competitions and surf schools, a NSW government media release reads.
There will also be research funding for new tools, technologies and further insights into shark behaviour and an annual survey of community confidence and sentiment in NSW Government shark mitigation efforts.
Mr Saunders pointed out the investment builds on previous investment and initiatives: “This summer alone, the NSW Government committed $21.4 million to implement a number of extra mitigation tools, including SMART drumlines, drone technology, 16 additional shark listening stations, 51 shark nets, the Shark Smart app and community awareness campaigns, so today’s funding will be a welcome boost to further these initiatives.”
“We know sharks can be extremely dangerous and aggressive, however, they’re also part of what makes NSW’s marine life so beautiful, so we need to make sure we continue to have state-of-the-art technology in place to allow them and beachgoers to coexist.”
Minister for Agriculture, Dugald Saunders
“There is no other jurisdiction in Australia or across the globe which has done as much testing and trialling of technology and approaches to mitigate shark interactions, and our shark program is now the largest and most comprehensive in the world.”
Advocates of SMART Drumlines reckon its madness to do nothing in the face of increasing “encounters” regardless of whether these encounters are due to sharks really being more plentiful (or simply due to warming waters bringing them closer to shore, despite their numbers being in decline) arguing SMART Drumlines are at least more targeted than nets, and point to the emotional distress shark attacks have caused on those regions affected.
Detractors argue we shouldn’t be putting hooks through any living creature’s mouth, whatever the reason (and claim SMART drumlines are ineffective). One Instagram user in the anti SMART drumline camp, @clarewerby, wrote on Instagram: “Drum-lines do nothing except harm marine life, attract bigger sharks and give the public a FALSE sense of safety.”
“There are plenty of other options that do not cause marine life harm. One example is the use of drones. Time to change and get with the times.”
@clarewerby
nsw_sharksmart responded: “Our @nsw_dpi scientists led the trials to test drones for shark surveillance. Following these trials, we partnered with @slsnsw to put drones in the hands of our lifeguards and lifesavers and now have drones on 54 beaches in NSW, one of the largest drone programs in the world.”
“SMART (Shark Management Alert in Real Time) drumlines allow White, Bull and Tiger sharks to be intercepted beyond the surf break; once caught, they are tagged and released 1km offshore and can then be detected on the network of shark listening stations.”
Others made hopeful suggestions like “any chance of rebates for personal devices.”
We’ll keep our ears peeled on that one.

The scene in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off where the two carpark attendants get mad air during their joyride of Cameron’s father’s prized 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder is one of the most iconic car moments in film. Every revhead’s probably dreamed of doing something similar.
Well, one Californian man has turned his Ferris Bueller dreams into reality… And now the cops are after him.
Social media has been ablaze in recent days with a clip of someone jumping a rented 2018 Tesla Model S across an intersection at the top of a hill in Echo Park, near Downtown LA. The insane clip must be seen to be believed – we knew Teslas were fast, but that’s some Tony Hawk-style air. Watch below.
The Los Angeles Police Department is offering a $1,000 reward for anyone who tracks down the dangerous driver, but so far they haven’t got their man.
Luckily, no-one was hurt during the stunt, but some cars on the street were damaged by the out-of-control Tesla.
YouTuber Alex Choi, who captured much of the footage of the stunt (and subsequently went viral) has already donated $2,000 to the owner of a Subaru Forester damaged by the stunt, and has demonetised his videos of the event, as not to profit from property damage.
Choi has said he knows who did the stunt but has so far kept quiet about the driver’s identity.
Whether you want to buy the driver a beer or dob him in for the $1k reward, we reckon our mystery stuntman should give Elon Musk a call – they could have a career as a SpaceX test pilot…

Joe Rogan has just said that he wants to be “very apolitical” in terms of which politicians he interviews. His (apparent) solution to that? Don’t interview them at all. He said this while talking to former CIA covert operations officer and current CEO of Portman Square Group, Mike Baker, on episode 1793 of his show.
“I am very apolitical,” Rogan said. “When it comes to the future and political candidates, I don’t want to have that kind of influence. I want to be someone who can watch and observe. I don’t wanna be someone who’s actually affecting this.”
This remark came off the back of a fake Trump Twitter account claiming Trump would be appearing on Rogan’s podcast.
Rogan said of this: “People love to make up a completely fake story and see if that makes it into the news – a hundred people at least have texted me and sent me emails and contacted friends because they heard Trump was coming on my podcast – the source of it is a fake Trump account on Twitter.”
“It’s not the case.”
While Rogan admitted “There’s a certain amount I’m affecting no matter what I do,” he also said he wants to reduce that (political) impact.
“I have decided I am very apolitical when it comes to the future and political candidates,” Rogan said. “What I’m actually interested in is talking to people. I’m not nearly as interested in affecting things.”
“Unfortunately because there are so many f**king people paying attention, I’m doing it the same way I’ve always done it, but now there ate more people paying attention.”
CNN has previously described Rogan as “libertarian-leaning.” Rogan has said that he holds a broad range of political views.
The top-rated answer on Quora for the question of Roga’s politics is: “He has no political affiliations, he is smart and doesn’t blindly follow a political party no matter the candidate.”
“Almost all his views are liberal, with a couple views being libertarian and republican leaning.”
“Last election he was a Bernie supporter but refused to support Hilary once Bernie was out. He seems like he will be hoping for Bernie again.”
According to JRE library, Rogan has previously hosted 11 politicians on his show (although only one of them – Bernie Sanders – is a really high profile one). He didn’t say it outright, but reading between the lines, his recent remarks would suggest that to avoid unduly influencing politics he has now decided not to interview high profile political candidates from here on out.
Some Twitter users said they thought Spotify had forced Rogan to take this stance. Others claimed that “even before Spotify, he said that he didn’t like having politicians on, except for those he liked personally.”
Another social media commenter, on Youtube, wrote: “Rogan can be wishy washy on alot of things. He prolly doesnt want to seem to be a ‘trump supplrter’ bad for his image…guaranteed he will have others in his show to talk about politics…just not Trump.”
Back to the recent podcast: Rogan then went on to say that he does see where people are coming from regarding the recent criticisms of him (though in the same breath he suggests he thinks they are being overzealous).
Rogan said: “The idea that one person can have that much influence is disturbing to a lot of folks who would like these giant corporations, which are controlled by the pharmaceutical companies and whoever the f**k else is paying their advertising, to decide what can and can’t be talked about and not said or not discussed and what’s misinformation and whats real information.”
This comes about a month and a half after Rogan posted a video on Instagram saying he wanted to take more accountability for the guests he had on his show and the information they share.
“One of the things Spotify wants to do is that at the beginning of these controversial podcasts, especially these ones about COVID is to put a disclaimer and say that you should speak to your physician and [warn people] ‘these people the opinions they express are contrary to the opinion of the consensus of experts,’ which I think is very important and I’m happy with that,” Rogan said.
“These podcasts are very strange because they’re just conversations. Oftentimes, I have no idea what I’m going to talk about until I sit down and talk with people. That’s why some of my ideas are not that prepared or fleshed out because I’m literally having them in real-time – that’s also the appeal of the show.”
That video came a month after 270 medicine and science experts signed an open letter asking Spotify to remove a December episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, which featured Dr Robert Malone, an infectious diseases specialist (and vaccine sceptic), who, according to PolitiFact, was banned from Twitter for violating the platform’s COVID-19 misinformation policies.

Tom Brady, NFL GOAT, legendary quarterback, and the Buccaneers’ latest “game changing signing” seems to be as big of a fan of cardio as he is of retirement.
After Brady came out of retirement earlier this month (just six weeks after announcing he would be giving up the game), saying: “These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” Brady has now taken to Twitter with a “cardio workout” which, to our eyes, looks like a joke.
“Still the best way to get some cardio in…” Brady wrote on Twitter, posting the below video, and tagging Julian Edelman.
He credited the video to creators @ari_fararooy and @ShadowLion.
First up: a clarification. This isn’t recent footage. As NESN’s Zack Cox points out, Edelman is edited into a video that was made by Ari Fararooy after a Brady throwing session in July 2021. So it’s a bit cheeky to begin with.
FYI on the the Julian Edelman video Tom Brady just posted: It’s not from a new workout. Videos from the same day were shared last summer. pic.twitter.com/PvI475WEd9
— Zack Cox (@ZackCoxNESN) March 21, 2022
This hasn’t stopped some rampant speculation over whether Brady is trying to tempt Edelman out of retirement though. Retired wideout Edelman simply responded to Brady: “How’s the knee look?”
How’s the knee look?
— Julian Edelman (@Edelman11) March 21, 2022https://t.co/LYJ3YAp5Sd
Our point about the cardio still stands, too: it might be a lung-busting workout for Edelman (superimposed or overwise), who gets run ragged all over the field receiving, but for Brady, it looks pretty light on…
He is the GOAT though, so we’ll just shut up and watch.

Pete Davidson has had quite an impressive career; he was one of the youngest SNL cast members ever, went on tour with comedy legend John Mulaney, made Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in 2016, has performed two stand-up TV specials and has been involved with numerous comedy shows and films, like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The King of Staten Island.
Not only has Davidson become an accomplished stand-up, television and film comedian, he’s also got quite the dating CV. Davidson is currently dating Kim Kardashian, but prior to that Davidson dated actress Kate Beckinsale, model Kaia Gerber, Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor and was even engaged to pop star, Ariana Grande.
Speaking of which: a short clip of Davidson, which has not been seen for some time, is now doing the rounds on social media.
The clip shows a seventeen-year-old Davidson (he’s now 28) performing part of a stand-up routine, long before he ‘made it.’ The clip shows Davidson has always had a bit of a joking ‘Mr steal yo’ girl’ vibe about him (our words, not his) – or, as we like to call it, the ‘kavorka’ – a lure irresistible to women that Seinfeld’s Kramer famously had.
In the video, Davidson jokes that “unfortunately” the ladies can’t date him without going to jail as he’s only seventeen and a minor. He then quips that he can, however, “hit on” men’s girlfriends without fear of retaliation because, of course, if they hit him they’ll also go to jail because he’s still only seventeen and a minor.
He also jokes about being into cougars, and Santa Claus “banging” his mum.
If anything, the clip – which you can watch below – proves Davidson has always had a knack for comedy.

Putting diesel in a petrol car isn’t just a rookie mistake, but a pretty dire one to make. It’s also pretty hard to do these days, as both cars and petrol pumps make it intentionally quite difficult for you to put the wrong type of fuel in your car.
It’s a particularly bad mistake to make if you’re actually in the oil business… And if you’re filling up a super-rare $15 million supercar. But one man has defied the odds and done exactly that.
François Perrodo, chairman of Anglo-French oil company Perenco and an accomplished endurance car racer, came clean on social media last week about how he accidentally filled up his road-legal McLaren F1 GTR with diesel, necessitating an emergency rescue from a team of motoring specialists. How embarrassing.
Thankfully the car’s okay, with only Perrodo’s ego left damaged. He’s had a good sense of humour about the whole ordeal though, as have his mates, who’ve added a sticker to his car’s fuel door saying ‘François No Diesel!’

“After 25 years of dedicated petrolhead life, I did the mother of all fuck ups,” Perrodo shared on Instagram. He does offer a justification for the mistake, though:
“Firstly, had it been a modern car, the nozzle would not have fit in the hole but the GTR is a race car with a large aperture! Secondly, had we been in France, the diesel nozzle would have been disgusting and smelly but this was [London] and it was as clean and dry as a petrol nozzle!”
Perrodo has joked that “even the f*cking dog laughs at me when I come home” and that he’s “been condemned to drive electric cars (and diesel) til the day I die.” Ah well. You gotta laugh.
RELATED: American RV Owner’s Petrol Pumping Video Shows Insane Cost Of Road Tripping Right Now
Putting diesel in a petrol car isn’t as bad as putting petrol in a diesel car, but it’s still less than ideal (especially if your car is a finely-tuned exotic race car). Diesel is thicker than petrol and will clog up your car’s spark plugs and fuel systems, meaning your car just won’t start.

The McLaren F1 GTR is the racing variant of the iconic McLaren F1 sports car and is widely regarded as one of the best race cars of the 1990s. Powered by a naturally aspirated BMW 6.1L V12, it makes around 441kW: 20kW less than the road-going F1, but in a much lighter car.
Only 28 were ever made, making these exceptionally rare and desirable vehicles. Perrodo’s is particularly desirable as it’s one of only a handful of GTRs that were officially modified by McLaren to be street-legal. These modified GTRs don’t have the same air restrictor that race-spec GTRs have, so they’re actually much more powerful and are therefore the ultimate versions of the coveted McLaren F1.
Examples of the McLaren F1 GTR have previously sold at auction for prices between US$15-20 million.

The deadlift is one of the best lifts anyone can do to help strengthen virtually all muscles in the body, along with the posterior chain. It is also, however, a lift that has the potential to cause injury if not performed correctly.
We’ve previously discussed the best deadlift you’ve never done as one that can help to minimise the risk of injury, but it will take a little bit of time to adapt to. A far easier and more common deadlift variation that is incredibly effective and one that helps to reduce the risk of injury is the trap bar deadlift. If you’ve not seen or heard of the trap bar deadlift before, then allow Conor McGregor to show you how it’s done.
Taking to Instagram recently to perform a “post paddy’s day workout” in his “ma’s kitchen,” Conor can be seen performing the trap bar deadlift, followed by an incline dumbbell chest press and some barbell bicep curls. While those second two movements are great for building the chest, shoulders and biceps, we’re focusing on the trap bar deadlift.
What is a trap bar deadlift?
The trap bar deadlift is a deadlift variation that commonly uses a hexagonal bar that the lifter stands inside. There is a handle on either side of the trap bar, which you grip with a neutral grip (palms facing inwards). You then lift in a very similar fashion to a barbell deadlift, i.e. hinge at the hips, bend the knees slightly, lock down your shoulders and push up through your feet.
According to Mirafit, the trap bar deadlift is just as good as the conventional barbell deadlift at strengthening your posterior chain. However, because the weight is more centred, due to your positioning standing inside the bar, it reduces the strain on your lower back and can actually place greater emphasis on your quad muscles.
If you’re already experienced with performing both trap bar deadlifts and barbell deadlifts, you would have likely found you can lift a heavier load with the trap bar than the barbell, highlighting the fact your quads play a bigger role in the lift.
How to perform a trap bar deadlift
There are a few different trap bar deadlift variations, which are determined by the type of trap bar you use. The most common is the conventional hex bar, which you’ll likely find in most gyms. Conor McGregor, however, is using an open-back trap bar. This will likely have a heavier starting weight (before you add any plate weights) and can be used to perform a range of other exercises, such as Romanian Deadlifts.
Whichever trap bar type you use, the lifting technique will be the same. To perform a trap bar deadlift, stand inside your trap bar of choice with your feet hip-width apart. Bend your knees and squat down to grab the trap bar handles (this part of the movement is similar to a squat, in that you want to imagine you’re sitting down on a chair, aiming to prevent your knees from going too far over your toes).
Raise your chest and look out in front of you. Lock down your shoulders and keep your back flat, before pushing up through your feet to lift the trap bar off the floor. Lift until you’re standing straight and squeeze your glutes when you reach the top of the movement.
Lower the trap bar back down slowly in an exact reverse, i.e. maintaining your forward gaze and squatting back down. As Conor McGregor shows in his video, he doesn’t allow the trap bar to touch the floor before lifting again. You can let it touch the floor if you wish, although getting it close to the floor, without letting it touch, will increase the tension on your quads and hamstrings.
The trap bar deadlift is a perfect variation for those who have long wanted to try the conventional barbell deadlift but have been worried about injury. As is the case for most lifting exercises, it’s also always good to start off with a lighter weight so that you can get the technique right, before attempting to increase the weight.
Try the trap bar deadlift next time you’re in the gym and feel the burn in your legs the next day.

Whether you’re naturally fat big-boned, have an under-active thyroid or experience a little self-induced largeness due to the fact you enjoy consuming several meat pies at once, the overweight guy shouldn’t be exempt from looking like a star.
Here’s your guide to fashion for the larger gent.
In this story…

It’s Not All Bad News In The Wardrobe
Even if you’re already en route to weight loss, you still need to learn how to dress for your current body type. We’re not saying you have to lose weight in order to look good.
What’s more important when it comes to fashion for the larger gent, the acceptance that most ready-to-wear fashion brands are not your friend, nor are the magazines and the fashion lads that parade their clothes. So turn over that glossy page for good. We’re here to help you suck up that gut, puff out that barrel chest and throw your style weight around a bit.
Because looking good is all about confidence, capped off with some simple fashion tips. We’ll have you going – from the fat man, to the big man – in no time.
Employ Visual Trickery

The key to looking sharper and slimmer is using visual trickery. Firstly, minimise surface area. This means always tucking dress shirts into trousers and with a belt to break up the belly from the crotch, even if it tends to hang further down than it should. Create a vertical line – with a v-neck or a row of buttons – drawing the onlooker’s focus to the centre of the body, not your gut.
Darken out the big places – belly, butt or thighs – that you don’t want to emphasise, and wear lighter tones over your slimmer areas. We all have our not-bad-to-better assets, so understand yours and make them work for you.
Solid Neutrals & Classic Prints

To prevent yourself from looking like a giant piece of fruit, avoid blocked bright hues such as red, purple, green, yellow and pink, on shirts and tops. Coloured pants are fine but solid neutral colours are where you shine: navy, chocolate, olive, black and grey. These broad, block spaces in dark shades help complement your shape, perfect for tees, jackets and knits.
Look to standard patterns like checks and stripes on button shirts, as they have a distractive element and spice up a boring work look. Try working checks into shirts on dark hues and subtle stripes on blazers in muted tones. It’s all about light textures with prints rather than anything with busy graphics or patterns.
Terrifically Tailored

Every man needs a tailor, and with fashion for the larger gent it is no exception. Because you’re beyond normal proportions and most likely can’t buy a suit off the retail rack, skip the boutique straightaway and see the man with the tape measure and thread. Made-to-measure suiting or bespoke, where you can select everything from button colour to lapel width, will cost more than an in store suit but it will fit you like glove.
And a quality fabric in a timeless hue will last you through the ages. For trousers, opt for full break on my pants, with the pant skimming heel or slightly shorter. Jacket should cut the shoulder sharply and when fastened should sit flat with no pulling, obscuring nicely the belly or ‘frum’.
Fervently Fabric

Light yet sturdy fabrics should make up your wardrobe. Too thick, and the materials will add bulk to your frame; too thin and you’ll be exposing your lumps and bumps. For suits, separates, coats and knits, go for wool, cashmere and silk, avoiding polyester. Heavy, cheap fabrics retain heat and lead to increased sweating.
Cotton is key for shirts, tees and chinos but all need a small amount of polyester (so read the label in the seam of the garment). The synthetic fiber can add durability and sturdiness, as well as offering shape and less crinkles. In summary, go for smooth, natural fabrics (with a touch of polyester) that hang close to the body without looking chunky. Selvedge denim is key for jeans, and will mould to your shape for a customised fit. But push through the first uncomfortable months, where the denim can be a little stiff.
When it comes to other pant styles, and a important rule with fashion for the larger gent, natural fabrics will keep you cool, and made of a sturdy fabric, will create a clean line from the waist to the ground.
Structural & Simple

Simplicity is your fashion friend. Search for clothes that are clean and shaped to the body. The key is structural suits, jackets and blazers that add a nice ‘squaring’ from the shoulders down and give shape automatically. Then, as the coat drapes, the body becomes naturally framed and contained within the garment. Again, structure is key for bottoms too.
Trousers are the silhouette you want, as opposed to track pants and athletic gear, which can offer sloppiness – unless you’re working out. Separates provide a nice flat front but ensure they are clean, without pleats. If the occasion is more casual, chinos are the big guy’s off duty go-to as well. Other simplicity tips: eliminate chunky wallets and keys from pockets by investment in a document holder, briefcase or back pack for a more streamline stride.
Key Large Gent Fashion Items
Suits
Get your suit custom-made. Go for low-rise trousers, with a short-break and cuffed leg length. The jacket needs to be sharp on the shoulder and avoid double-breasted; single button is great for creating a focal point that streamlines.
Jackets/Coats
A cropped bomber or leather biker jacket provide a cool, lean silhouette. In warmer weather, an open shirt over a V-neck works too. In colder weather a long overcoat is a great way to make a solid impression with your whole body. Opt for traditional brands like Hackett or Burberry.
Knits
Sweaters need to be wool or cashmere in slim fit. This helps flatten the front over the belly too, but only if close and without bulge. And opt for v-neck, to create the vertical line. Knits can be chunky, but fitted and cardigans are key wardrobe necessities. Opt for one with a collar, like the shawl type, for the appearance of tailoring while being casual.
Shirts
V-neck tees and Henleys should be your staples due to their slimming neckline and vertical focal points. And striped business shirts, too – just remember to tuck that thing in. Solid brands include Ralph Lauren, Saturdays NYC and Perry Ellis.
RELATED: Big & Tall Polo Shirts
Bottoms
Shorts aren’t kind to you, so opt for knee-length ones if the summer weather beckons, avoiding cargos with bulky pockets. Opt for low-rise (a shorter distance between the top of the waistband and the crotch) chinos or pants and don’t sit trousers under your belly as this lengthens your torso to appear short-legged and stumpy. Check out short and trouser brands, Nautica and Maine New England – made for larger lads.
Jeans
Perfect big-guy brands for jeans include Wrangler’s Texas fit, Lee’s Brooklyn Big & Tall, and J by Jasper Conran. Nudie Jeans and 3Sixteen do a great selvage denim, too.

Accessories
Suspenders are key, under a blazer or suit jacket, in ensuring your trousers don’t slip below the belly. And pocket squares, lapel pins and ties are where you can add extra colour, texture and patterns into your look.
Men’s Fashion FAQ
Turtlenecks can make you look even bigger because they make your neck disappear. For sweaters, find one with a V-neck because it creates an illusion of slimmer neckline. Wear pants at your waist instead of around your hips. This will help hide those love handles and make you look slimmer overall. Tuck in your shirts. Wear shirts with fabrics that are thicker and drape better, like Oxford cloth shirts, twill dress shirts and flannels.
