Guys and gals usually have different definitions of great grooming. This is the definition of shit beards, goatees and chin straps.
While you may crave the manliness of a full burly beard, she’ll probably equate you to a homeless wizard. Similarly, your so-called “trendy” moustache, your idea of a macho experiment, may quickly lend you the title of a creepy sleazeball.
Ultimately, no matter how awesome certain types of facial hair seem to you, realistically, the battle for acceptable grooming is one you’ll never win. The final verdict always goes to the fairer sex.
To make sure you’re never treading along turn-off territory, here’s the top facial hair styles women hate the most (but will never tell you).
In this bad facial hair story…
The Rough Scruff

Unless you’re a make out masochist, rough scruff is a no-go. With those sharp, needle-like hairs, your face is a coarse nightmare for any lady in your life.
Plus, it’s considered one of the laziest grooming habits. Nevertheless, if you’re seriously intent on rocking some scruff, use an oil treatment to keep the hairs smooth and moist. Otherwise, you’re not that handsomely grizzly guy; you’re just sandpaper face guy – not appealing.
Another drawback is when rough scruff leads to itching and irritation, making you fidget and scratch your face like a primate with the ticks. Surely, you can take better care of yourself. Remember, soft scruff is sexy scruff. Good lad.
The Chinstrap

According to most women, there’s something innately eerie about the chinstrap.
Worn by Abraham Lincoln, sketchballs, magicians and pretty much every 90’s douchebag, the chinstrap is one of those enigmas that had somehow, along the course of history, poked its way through as a trend.
Today, it has a reputation for being super weird, and for most self-respecting females, an enormous turnoff. Better yet, it gets you an automatic swipe left. Keep in mind, however, that it’s okay to have some outgrown hairs hanging around your jawline.
But a fully defined chin strap, a cringe-breeding band bordering your face, means you’re just asking to be dateless.
The Patchy Beard

Not everyone is blessed with even growth. No problem.
Here’s the solution: if you’re not sprouting hairs uniformly, give up on your delusions of beard grandeur and try something else.
No beard is better than one that’s scattered and clumsy. Otherwise, you’ll merely draw more attention to the fact that you can’t grow a proper beard – is that really something you want to advertise?
Leave the patchy beard to the clueless prepubescents who are still figuring it out.
The Beard For The Sake Of A Beard

Do you crave the he-man status of a big beard? While it can be cool to invoke your inner mountaineer, women don’t quite feel aroused by a haggard slump of pubic-like facial hair – at all!
To truly pull off a great beard, you have to have epic bone structure. We’re talking about those chiseled, modelesque features that’ll let you carry off that huge hulking beard and make it look handsome.
More or less, only 3% of the population can actually make this type of facial hair look flattering, so unless you’re among these rare few, you’re seriously gambling with your attractiveness level. And really, is a big beard worth a round of kudos from your bored buds? We think not.
The Classic Goatee

There are some blokes in this world who love some feathery fluff flying under their chin. Ugh – even its very description sends shudders down a woman’s spine.
We call this heap of hopelessness the goatee. The only men who grow one are those special “unicorns” who get off on amusing themselves, while genuinely not giving AF about a woman’s approval. Yet, objectively speaking, whether you’re a man or woman, there’s nothing strong or strapping about this look.
It’s a gross, lint-filled chin duster. It’s creepiness at its finest. There’s really only one word for it: sheepish. Besides, why would you ever want to rock facial hair inspired by a goat? Enough said…
The Wiley Moustache

The only real reason to grow a moustache is to prove you can (case in point). The only exception is when it had risen to popularity in the 1920’s.
Back then, it was considered distinguished and classy – go figure. If you can picture John Dillinger in a suit and bowler hat, you’ve got the idea. Then move forward a few decades to the 1970’s when the moustache and afro became the go-to facial hair.
Fast-forward to today, it’s now considered weird and synonymous with sketchy male pornstars. You can be sure she won’t be feeling your Saturday night fever.
Facial hair experimentation can always be fun, but usually at the expense of your own powers of seduction. Don’t cripple your mojo by turning your facial hair into a visual and physical buzzkill. And if you’re the stubborn type, then well, it may offer one bonus: a way to punish wifey (sorry not sorry).
The Solution…

Need some news to brighten your day? Apparently, it’s healthier for you to eat two burgers than it is to eat a single burger with a side of fries (sorry, fry lovers…).
That’s according to Emily Field, a registered dietician from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who says you can ultimately reduce your overall daily calorie intake by swapping fries for an additional burger, whilst also increasing your intake of protein.
According to Business Insider, Emily says that ultimately, we need to balance our intake of protein, carbohydrates and fats, in order to keep ourselves feeling fuller for longer.
View this post on Instagram
As Business Insider says, “when you eat a meal that’s high in carbs and low in protein, such as a bowl of cereal, you’re more like to see rapid spikes and falls in blood sugar.” Ensuring our blood sugar levels stay balanced is vital, because our cells distribute the energy provided throughout the body after having a meal.
Field adds that this logic can be applied to fast food, with burgers in particular being put under the microscope. “A typical fast-food burger comprises two small pieces of bread plus a slab of meat.”
“Without cheese or sauce, most burgers have about 300 to 400 calories, which come from carbs in the bread, protein in the meat and fat.”
“An order of fries, on the other hand, is just a tray of fried potato. It has a lot of fat and carbs but very little protein.”
“By swapping the fries for the second burger, then, you’re nearly doubling your protein intake while reducing the amount of fat and carbs you’re eating.”
“This simple switch could help steady your blood sugar levels.”
While others – like nutritionist Michael Pollan, who says “the standard American diet kills us” – might have us throw both the burger and the fries on the scrap heap, his message (avoid fried food) is actually intertwined with Emily’s.
We’re confident she’s not saying you can effectively replace your entire diet with one of burgers because they provide the nutrients we need, but the message of ditching the fries could be beneficial.
Dr David Sinclair takes things up yet another notch, speaking to Joe Rogan about how we should only eat one meal a day if we want to live longer.
He claims that our ancestors used to eat more like this, and in doing so, deprivation helped their bodies to build up a natural resilience, producing a so called “longevity gene.”
This gene helps the body to fight ageing and diseases, he claimed. He reckons the messages provided by standard nutritionists: three meals a day plus snacks, never be hungry, is in need of a re-think.
While David’s claims may be backed up by considerable research, getting modern-day humans to drastically change their comfortable and convenient ways of eating will be an arduous task.
Perhaps it’s just easier to order two burgers, rather than one with fries?

If anyone is qualified to speak about 2021’s hottest haircut for men; it’s me.I have a catalogue of hairstyle sins littering my past. In 2019 I tried to copy Chris Hemsworth’s ‘curtain’ haircut. In 2017 I proudly rocked the weirdest undercut anyone has ever seen.I’ve also insulted the memory of various other celebrity haircuts over the years – from Johnny Depp’s triangular fringe to the eponymous f*ckboi haircut of 2018.I’ve also sported a Henry Caville style moustache for a month and imitated Chris Hemsworth’s isolation beard. That’s just the beginning. What really sets me apart is that, between trying weird and wonderful ‘dos for science, I am usually lazy with my hair, rocking a dishevelled, fall-as-it-may, New Romantic, medium-length mess.
“Grealish wears his with big banker energy: it’s full bodied and looks lion mane-esque (he even wears it with a Beckham-ish headband). Last week he revealed his surprisingly involved routine: Argan oil, Hairbond wax and Got2B hairspray on still-damp-from-the-shower hair. Not exactly wash and go.”
Grealish is the closest thing England have to Messi or Isco… so he can do what he wants. But as for me? I’ll take “wash and go” any day.

The Mini – both the classic 60s design and its modern reincarnation – is one of the most prominent and successful examples of industrial design of all time. It’s quintessential British chic: small, practical, sporty, idiosyncratic and not entirely full of itself. One thing Minis aren’t, however, are good for the environment. Sure, they’re much more fuel-efficient than the vast majority of cars on the market, and the modern MINI marque has made great headway with electrified drivetrains (check out our review of the MINI Countryman Hybrid), but MINI, like the rest of the automotive industry and industry more broadly, has a long way to go when it comes to producing truly sustainable, eco-friendly goods. This is why MINI’s latest concept car is so exciting. Produced in collaboration with acclaimed British designer Paul Smith, the recently-unveiled ‘MINI STRIP’ concept is an absolute triumph, which combines the ‘best of British’ design flair that’s so crucial to the Mini’s character with a truly forward-thinking approach to sustainability and eco-conscious materials.Externally, the MINI STRIP resembles a normal MINI One, just with no paint and a more aggressive front end. It’s like some sort of stripped-down racer or demolition derby car – hence the name ‘STRIP’. But it’s when you step inside the car and again, strip it down to its bare materials, that the true genius of the MINI STRIP is revealed.
View this post on Instagram
Firstly, the MINI Strip is an electric car, with the same mechanical underpinnings as the MINI One Electric. An electric drivetrain perfectly complements the car’s much-touted ‘go-kart-like handling’; the instant torque and linear powerband that all EVs share making the already great driving experience even greater. The MINI STRIP’s radical weight loss would make its driving dynamics wilder still. But the real party trick of the MINI STRIP is its eco-friendly bona-fides. The key conceit of Smith’s design is that they’ve peeled back all the extraneous elements of the car, and replaced the essentials with recycled or sustainable products. For example, the panoramic sunroof, grille and wheels are made from recycled Perspex. The floor mats are made from recycled rubber. The dashboard topper pad, door shoulders and parcel shelf are made from recycled cork. Much of the bodywork and interior is made from aluminium; the seats and door handles are textile; even the front and rear apron inserts were 3D printed, in order to reduce waste. You get the picture.Inspired by Smith’s love of pushbikes, visible and accessible screws are a notable aesthetic and functional touch throughout the MINI STRIP, which show how simple dismantling would be and how easily the vehicle could be reincorporated into the raw-material cycle at the end of its service life.

Concept cars are often a bit of a wank, but the MINI STRIP is truly brilliant. It shows that incorporating sustainable materials and practices in auto manufacturing isn’t just good for the planet, but can actually be a stylistic drawcard in of itself. The stripped-down aesthetic not only cleverly pays to MINI’s rallying heritage (as well as reflecting Smith’s trademark minimalism) but also brings into focus the inherent beauty of recycled products, and encourages drivers to think more carefully about where the things we consume come from, and how we dispose of them.In short, it gets you thinking and inspires you – which is what a concept car should do – and provides a bright, exciting glimpse at the future of motoring.Sadly, the MINI STRIP is a one-off and isn’t designed for normal road-going. Which is a shame, because we’d snap one up in an instant. Wonder if Mr. Smith would throw in a bunch of blazers as well…

Indonesian authorities are ploughing on with a Jurassic Park-esque experiment despite the fury of some environmentalists. It’s not just environmentalists who are worried about it either: UNESCO recently released a report expressing its concerns with what was going on over at Komodo Island. But let’s back up for a second. What is Komodo Island? Komodo Island is one of Indonesia’s most lusted after archipelagos. It’s home to one of only seven pink-sand beaches in the world. It’s also home to a rare endangered species: Komodo Dragons, which are dwindling and have faced, among other things, poaching problems. It’s estimated there are only 5,700 wild Komodo dragons left in the wild.Komodo Dragons can grow up to 10 feet long, and weigh up to 150 kilograms, and are apex predators, notorious for their sharp teeth and venom which stops your blood from clotting. They have lived in harmony with the local population on the islands for many years.

Indonesian authorities have tossed up a number of management strategies over the years, from banning tourists completely, to charging them a heavy cover charge for entry (this actually got implemented), in order to strike a balance between looking after the island and covering their costs. Now they are planning to develop a premium tourism attraction, which, naturally, the social media is speculating could end up like something out of a Mathew Rielly novel or a Michael Crichton science-fiction thriller…The Indonesian environment ministry said earlier this month that it would continue developing a number of projects on Komodo National Park, which started last year, despite UNESCO recently voicing concerns. The project first drew criticism in 2020 after a photo of a Komodo dragon facing down a truck went viral.
Sedih!
Masih adakah yg peduli dg konservasi?(Photo supplied) pic.twitter.com/ph7Ulj7lnA— Kawan Baik Komodo (@KawanBaikKomodo) October 23, 2020
“This is the first time Komodos are hearing the roar of engines and the smell of smoke,” conservation group Save Komodo Now wrote on Twitter last year. The group claimed the photo was taken on Rinca Island, inside Komodo National Park.
“What will the future impact of these projects be? Does anyone still care about conservation?”
According to Insider, in June 2021, UNESCO asked for the tourism projects to be stopped while it reassesses the environmental impact on the Komodo dragons.
“Although an Indonesian government representative did tell Reuters that a new assessment was in the works, apparently nobody let UNESCO know.”
“One reason officials – as well as so many others – are concerned is that the exact details of the project are still unknown,” (iflscience.com).The 700-square mile park was established in 1980 to protect the Komodo Dragons. Hopefully it keeps on doing so after these changes.

A continuous diet of deep-fried, fatty foods will cause greater harm to the human body than a balanced diet of good-quality protein, fibre, carbohydrates and healthy fats. This won’t come as a shock to many, admittedly, but in the current global climate, it’s a sentence that needs to be taken far more seriously. At least, that’s the message we took from nutritionist Michael Pollan. Michael sat down with New York Times journalist Kara Swisher recently for an episode of the Sway podcast. In it, Kara recites back to Michael some statistics he reported in a previous book, that “49% of the people hospitalized with Covid-19 had pre-existing hypertension. 48% were obese. 28% had diabetes.”To this, he said, “the predictors of a Covid death, a death from Covid, are essentially bad diet and an inflamed body. It’s all about inflammation”, going on to add:
“The standard American diet kills slowly in normal times and quickly in COVID times.”
To back this up, he added, “if you are already inflamed by a Western diet — and that is what this diet does to us, a diet of lots of processed food, lots of meat, lots of sugar — it screws with your microbiome and leaves your body inflamed.”
“If you want to predict someone’s likelihood of cancer, cardiovascular disease, look at their diet.”
Of course, Michael isn’t necessarily saying that if you change your diet to a healthier one, you won’t catch Covid or worse, die from it, but it could be a worthwhile change not just during the pandemic, but for your future too. This relates to a claim bio-hacker Dave Asprey recently shared, that a cigarette is effectively healthier for us than deep-fried food because the inflammation caused in our body by the latter, last longer than the inflammation caused by the former.Granted, smoking brings with it a heap of other health-related diseases (lung cancer, for instance), which make it still, overall, worse, but the point he was making – that the effects of inflammation on the body is greatly undervalued – is an important one, and one which nutritionist Madeline Calfas makes too.Calfas recently told DMARGE: “The effects of inflammation on the body are greatly undervalued, and I don’t think that people really grasp how serious the effects of chronic inflammation can be.”Back to nutritionist Michael Pollan – Michael goes on to say during the Sway podcast that he’s noticing a shift in food products, honing in on the fact many of us are ditching cow’s milk in favour of synthetic alternatives such as oat milk, almond milk and soy milk, and believes “this could happen to meat also.”This alone could be seen as a contentious subject as, while it may be true that the sheer extent of the meat industry is having a negative effect on the planet, there is much to be said of good-quality meats and how they play an important role in our diet.Yes, it has been proven we can be healthy and even get ripped on a plant-based diet, but then again, studies have also shown that plant-based meat isn’t nutritionally equal to its animal-based brethren. The whole topic of diets is one that will continue to be argued and debated until the end of time. But one thing is for sure, cutting out inflammation-causing fried foods and switching them out for healthier, whole-food alternatives (whether you are a vegan or a carnivore, or somewhere in between), will do your body a whole world of good.

Justin Bieber in the summer is an absolute revelation. The 27-year-old Canadian pop superstar has a tendency to get a little sloppy in the style department during the cooler months, with a proclivity for wearing baggy tracksuits and Crocs out in public. But the last few outfits he’s shared with the world over this summer have been as refreshing as a minty Mojito – especially when it comes to his shirts. Loud numbers in Mykonos, a Cuban-inspired guayabera in California, a classic marinière in Paris… Not only is he trotting the globe (must be nice) but he’s becoming a world champion summer style icon. His latest outfit is yet another win. Posing at the lobby of the famous Beverly Hills Hotel in – you guessed it – Beverly Hills, on Wednesday, Bieber looked positively radiant in a short-sleeve egg yolk-coloured cardigan that immediately brings to mind your grandma cooking up a fried breakfast.

Bieber rounded off the look with some exceptionally crisp khakis, clean white Nike Air Force 1s, squared-off sunglasses and a big gold beaded necklace. It’s a decidedly retro look that on paper really shouldn’t work but actually works a treat.RELATED: Orlando Bloom Pairs 19th Century Accessory With 21st Century SneakersIt seems Bieber’s taking a bit of style inspiration from fellow musician, friend and LA native Tyler, the Creator, who’s known for his penchant for remixing previously kitsch items like cardigans and pearl necklaces with classic streetwear nous and luxurious touches.Bieber’s been enjoying an extended summer holiday, flitting between Europe and the US along with a huge entourage including his supermodel wife Hailey, manager Scooter Braun and rising Australian hip-hop star The Kid Laroi.Laroi’s latest single Stay, which features Bieber as a guest vocalist, has been sitting on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 4 weeks now. Musical success like that would give anyone a sunny disposition.

There is a long and storied history of passengers making unreasonable demands on planes. From Korean Air’s infamous ‘nutgate’ incident to the woman who thought it would be cool to take a stroll out onto the wing of a UIA flight, the anecdotes are endless. But the internet always demands more. And boy has it this week delivered. As Fox News reported on Wednesday, a mother and daughter appeared to get kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight last month for – in our opinion – quite a bizarre reason.Their crime? Yelling at passengers to give them an aisle seat. Really? Who does that? We ask this for two reasons. Firstly: if you’re going to fight over anything it should really be a window seat. Secondly: ona domestic flight, does it really matter where you sit? To the point of yelling about it?In any case, this is what happened – as explained by TikTok user official_norcal_mom.
Watch the video of Karen and ‘Karen 2.0’ getting kicked off the flight below
The video is captioned: “Flight from Sacramento to San Diego was already 2 hours delayed. They came onto a full flight right before the doors closed. Karen and Karen 2.0 thought everyone should move so they could have an aisle seat.”“The flight attendant politely told them that they could not ask a full plane of people to move seats (it’s first come first serve).”
“Karen 2.0 decided to scream into the plane full of passengers and ask someone to give up their seat. The flight attendant had just told her they couldn’t do that.”
“They were asked to go into the jetway, and then they made a bunch of concerning comments: ‘she’s going to scream and cry and grab onto people.'”“They [sic] flight attendants felt like the passengers weren’t safe with that behaviour. They removed them both. They will likely not be able to fly on SWA again. We were delayed another hour because of them.”
“The whole plane applauded when they were removed.”
“Thank you SWA for removing the Karens from our flight!!!” the video ended. This is far from the first instance of unruly behaviour in the skies as of late. Just two days ago we reported on a provocative act that threatened to see a battle between a man and a woman on another US airline (and which sparked an etiquette debate in the process).Maybe it’s lucky flight attendants are now being trained to kick your sorry ass?

Here in Australia we’re used to being used and abused by our aviation overlords.Want to fly to Bali? Here’s a cramped seat, no hold luggage (unless you pay extra), and 7kg of carry on, which will be inspected with extreme prejudice at the gate.Oh and water? Forget it. Even if you buy it after going through security, then the staff at Denpasar airport will force you to bin it before boarding (on your flight home).Oh, the joys of Jetstar. But we can’t complain too much – we’re suckers for a deal. There’s a reason our masochistic relationship exists. Money saved for Bintangs etc. However, given the new climate of airlines coaxing travellers back into the air after a disastrous couple of years for the travel industry, we thought we’d see some olive branches – hell, even some perks – extended to Australian travellers. But while overseas we’ve been seeing innovation (German airline Lufthansa, for instance, has made the most of the lower volume of passengers to introduce the much-anticipated sleepers row), in Australia things appear to be continuing as usual (see: Airline’s ‘Un-Australian Act Leaves Passengers Fuming During Lockdown).Arguably rubbing salt into this wound, Emirates this week announced a generous new baggage policy. From the 9th of August 2021, Emirates will allow travellers to take more baggage when travelling to and from Africa.
View this post on Instagram
“Pack more into your trip to and from Africa and beyond with up to 64kg complimentary checked-in baggage allowance (two 32kg bags) in First Class and Business Class, and up to 46kg (two 23kg bags) in Economy Class,” Emirates announced.
“From business and home essentials, to gifts and souvenirs, you now have room for it all on your travels to and from Africa.”
Virgin Australia (which is owned by US private equity firm Bain Capital), offers business class travellers two checked bags of 32kg for international short-haul flights (the same amount Emirates is now permitting those travelling to and from Africa).Qantas offers business class passengers an allowance of 40kg checked luggage for international flights (excluding ones to the Americas).Though it should be noted that Qantas allows economy travellers to check in two 23kg bags when travelling to and from the Americas (for all other International Qantas flights economy ticket holders get a limit of 30kg), the point remains: international airlines seem to be waving more carrots at their customers right now than Australian airlines are.Jetstar, which is a Qantas subsidiary, currently offers “no checked baggage allowance” for international flights, while its business class fare includes 30kg of checked baggage (though this is like comparing apples and oranges, it does help add zest to the comparison…).This lack of carrots and abundance of sticks may change when Australia’s international borders open (something slated to happen late next year). But just in case…we thought we’d pile a bit of pressure on.Who knows? Maybe if we whinge enough, in 2023 we’ll be treated to Krug in cattle class?Either that or a good old fashioned “ass whooping” as US airlines’ flight attendants are now being trained to dish out (if necessary)…
