Fitness Coach Reveals The Real Reason You Shouldn’t Let Yourself Go Too Far
Fitness Coach Reveals The Real Reason You Shouldn’t Let Yourself Go Too Far

If you have found yourself working out a lot less during the lockdown and heading to the fridge and pantry a lot more, chances are you’re going to hope there’s a ‘quick fix’ solution to lose the pounds and get back to your former, fitter self, once the lockdown period is fully lifted.Whether it’s using any home gym equipment you may have or you’re prepared to wait out the next few weeks until gyms can finally reopen again (albeit with strict hygiene rules in place) getting back into the swing of fitness things can’t come soon enough. There will no doubt be a plethora of health and fitness clubs advertising the quick-fix solutions you’re longing for, in the hope you sign up. The ones that advertise the fact you can lose X amount of weight in a relatively short space of time or tell you you will see huge results in 30 days. But just how realistic are their claims?Online “body transformation coach” James Kew has weighed in to put that argument to bed. He says in a recent Instagram post that 90-day challenges are “total bullsh*t [90% of the time].” Why? It’s not because achieving goals in 90-days isn’t possible at all, but more because “the marketing behind most challenges” can be misleading.

A post shared by James Kew (@jameskewfitness) on

James continues by saying “if you’re already lean, or just have 10-15 pounds of fat to lose, 90 days can be a realistic amount of time to see results.”But for the larger guys out there, you’ll need to rethink your goals and the amount of time you’ve chosen to reach them. We here at DMARGE regularly converse about the fact we’re noticing the number on the scales steadily increase, and considering we’re not working out as much as did before lockdown, we know it’s not muscle weight.“If you’re hoping to lose 40+ pounds, or go from ‘fat to fit’ in a mere 12 weeks, you’re only setting yourself up for failure”, says James.Several users agree:

“Been working hard and gained a bit of muscle and lost some fat. It’s been 6 months and I am still far from where I would like to be but this post is real. Persistence. Perseverance. Patience”

“Thank you for this! I’m nearing year 2 of losing weight and working on the last 10lbs. It’s been a heck of a journey!”That’s not to say you can’t aim for great changes in a 90-day period, as “you can make some awesome progress towards it”, but James adds you just need to be realistic and to make sure you keep “this whole health & fitness thing an enjoyable lifestyle.”Be realistic and accept your personal ‘transformation’ isn’t going to happen overnight – and make sure your nutrition is on point too – and you’ll have a more fruitful relationship with fitness.

This 1956 Fiat 600 Could Be The Coolest Car For Sale In Australia Right Now
This 1956 Fiat 600 Could Be The Coolest Car For Sale In Australia Right Now

The term ‘cool’ is bandied around far too commonly these days. It’s the easy fallback word to describe something someone likes, or to quickly shut down a conversation you’re not interested in. “I went and saw so and so last night”, “cool”.But we think we’re well in our rights to use the term to describe this 1956 Fiat 600 Multipla on Carsales, because just look at it. It’s so frickin’ cool!

Suicide doors *drool*.
We’ll be straight up, we never even knew this car existed until we saw it while scrolling through the latest listing on the automotive resale site. But just one look was all it took to know it just had to be featured on the DMARGE website. The Fiat 600 as a series – it was available as a two-door ‘Fastback’ or this four-door MPV – was produced from 1955 to 1969. The Fastback measured 10ft 5in, while the MPV was only around a foot longer (and only four foot longer than Chinese NBA giant Yao Ming). The Multipla version was more of a hybrid of both the Fastback 600 and the Fiat 1100 (a small family car produced in the same period), borrowing elements of the drivetrain and suspension, respectively. It employed the same two-metre wheelbase as its smaller sibling however, a feat achieved by moving the driver’s seat over the front axle and essentially leaving zero crumple zone in the process. It also meant boot space was effectively omitted entirely (more on the solutions a little later).
Roof rack included for those weekend getaways.
Fiat produced three variations of the 600 Multipla, with each getting a different seating configuration: it was available with 4/5 seats, 6 seats and eventually a Taxi version which rocked an individual driver’s seat. The model on sale here is claimed to be the six-seater version, although it looks as though it has a bench-style seat in the back (the six-seater variant had four individual rear seats arranged in two rows) which would mean it’s the 4/5 seater version instead.Regardless, the rear bench can be folded down to open up the rear, allowing it gobble up whatever luggage you need for a weekend road trip.
The passenger gets the spare wheel for company.
Of course, you won’t be getting to your destination in a hurry – something you’ll want to account for – as the 600 Multipla Series I (such as this) has a 633cc engine installed, with a power output of 15.8kW/21.2hp, resulting in a top speed of 90km/h (56mph). British motoring magazine The Motor recorded a 0-50mph for the Multipla of 43-seconds. Coolest car in Australia yes. Slowest car in Australia? Quite possibly. More time for onlookers to gawk in amazement, however. The Fiat 600 Multipla is often regarded as being the first MPV, or at least the inspiration for the people movers that are common on our roads today. The bad news however is it also spawned the ‘new’ Fiat Multipla launched in 1998. The less said about that car, the better. So, let’s focus more on this particular model for sale. It received a full restoration in 2016/17, which saw the body panels sanded down so that body panels could be fitted to a “better than factory standard”. The engine and gearbox have been rebuilt too, as the floor mat set is completely original.
Beast.
It comes supplied with the original log book it would have received when it rolled off the production line in Italy. Just under 130,000 Fiat 600 Multiplas were ever produced – although that factors in both the Series I and Series II (which received a larger engine) – but the owner of this vehicle claims the left-hand drive Series I is now “incredibly scarce and a collector’s favourite.”It may not be the fanciest or the fastest car to ever adorn our cars section (which we admit makes its $89,500 price tag a little tough to swallow) but we’re going to stick to the fact it’s one of the coolest. Head to the Carsales page now to enquire and make an offer.

‘Airline Aftermarket’ Could Be The Cheapest Way To Experience First Class
‘Airline Aftermarket’ Could Be The Cheapest Way To Experience First Class

The travel industry recently found itself hurtling down the world’s steepest street. But even as the road flattens out, it’s still going to be a long time – and a hard slog upwards – until we find ourselves back in the clouds.Suffice to say, it will likely be a while before you fly business or first class. However, if you’re privy to the following internet goldmine, which DMARGE recently discovered, you might still be able to get your pointy end kicks – without even leaving the house. That goldmine? The world of airplane seat auctions. That’s right: there are websites out there dedicated to connecting buyers and sellers of seats stripped from retired jets – also known as the airline aftermarket.Foremost among them are aviationgate.com and aviAUCTION (think: Gumtree but for plane seats) as well as Skyart.com, a global supplier of aviation-themed designer furniture.Salivating? Here are a few of our favourites.

SkyLine Full Flat Electronic First Class Seat – Double Fabric

Seat yourself.
One of SkyArt® Collection’s most comfortable seating products, the SkyLine First Class Aircraft Passenger Seat is manufactured by Sicma, an Italian aircraft furniture company, for Airbus 310 and 340 range as Business and First Class seating solutions. The back rest and the leg support are controlled electronically for ease of use.

SkyLine Recaro Electronic First Class Seat – Single

No TV buddy? No worries.
SkyLine First Class Aircraft Passenger Seat is another one of SkyArt® Collection’s most comfortable seating products.Manufactured by Recaro, the world-famous German seat manufacturer, for Airbus 320 aircraft, this first class seat’s back rest and the leg support are controlled electronically for ease of use. Just for good measure, there is also a motor-driven inflatable lower back cushion. The parts used in SkyArt designs are genuine aircraft parts with millions of miles of history, which makes each one of their products unique. As SkyArt.com explains: “Many aircraft have come back to life in our designs.”

B777 B/E Aerospace First Class Suites

New living room, who dis?
Heading over to aviAUCTION, one has the B777 B/E Aerospace First Class Suites which, at the time of writing, are set at $104,000.You have a little under two weeks to bid on these suites which, according to luxury travel experts (aviAUCTION claims) are part of the top ten best first class suites in the sky.As for their condition, the site claims they are well maintained and “as removed.”

Airbus A330/A340 Solar Eclipse

This could either be the best or worst purchase of your life…
Finally, we’ve got aviationgate.com’s Airbus A330/A340 Solar Eclipse first-class seat, manufactured by Contour, in factory new condition (made in 2007) and located in Germany. Though you have to request a quote to learn the price (for the seat and for delivery), we’d imagine, being factory new, they’d cost more than the aforementioned Aerospace Suite.Score yourself one of these, whack in some purple mood lighting (the Philips Hue, to be precise) and bung a few specialist airplane window stickers on the wall and you’ve got yourself a (home) pointy end party. All that remains is for your partner to don his/her flight attendant’s outfit and cook you a Michelin worthy meal.Tempted? A Brave New Lounge awaits.

Architectural Masterpiece Hits The Bondi Market… & It’s An Entertainer’s Dream
Architectural Masterpiece Hits The Bondi Market… & It’s An Entertainer’s Dream

We promised we’d feature more uber-cool properties here at DMARGE and so we’re happy to bring you details of this jaw-dropping home in Bondi, NSW. It might not have the living room plunge pool wow-factor of this man-pad in Clovelly, but it’s most-definitely an architect’s wet dream. It may not have the sea-views you’d want or expect, from a lush Bondi home, but being situated “moments from Bondi Beach” and on a “tree-lined street”, you won’t be left wanting. Besides, this four-bedroom home could provide you with the perfect setting to entertain your friends, so a seascape view wouldn’t be at the top of your list of priorities anyway. With NSW restrictions being eased again in June to allow more people over to your pad, now is the perfect time to invest and get it ready for a post-lockdown bash.So what exactly does this home offer once you enter through the front door? A large open-plan living, dining, kitchen area is what, with pools of natural light coming through what is seemingly an endless array of skylights. We’re all aware that home listing images don’t always tell the full story, but we’re confident the rooms will indeed be as bright as they appear. It’s certainly a modern home, and estate agent Ray White says it has been “architecturally designed”, evident in the way the rooms flow into one another, and how you get exposed concrete juxtaposed against acres of white plasterboard and excessive use of wooden detailing. Those beams primarily surround the top floor, which houses the master’s quarters, complete with its own reception room and walk-in wardrobe. The ensuite is particularly noteworthy due to its wacky marble décor, which may induce weird feelings once a party has got into full swing. On the ground floor, you’ll find the three remaining bedrooms and the feature no high-class mansion would be complete without: a wine cellar. Outside you’ll find a pool, although admittingly, you’re not going to get many inflatables on it. But you’ll certainly make full use of the pool house with its adjoining gym and instant access to a full entertaining-centric courtyard space. You may want to recommend your guests get rideshare cabs when coming round for a party though, as there’s only space for two cars out front, which is where we presume you’ll park his and hers motors. This Bondi home is taking expressions of interest now through estate agent Ray White – we reached out for more details but in true real estate agent fashion, we got added to the mailing list and heard nothing back. Property closes in a few weeks on the 8th of June.

These Unexpected Habits Could Be Your Ticket To Improved Mental Health
These Unexpected Habits Could Be Your Ticket To Improved Mental Health

Yoga, meditation and getting the right amount of sleep at night are the usual habits we’d be expected to practise if we wanted to improve our overall mental wellbeing. Taking the stress out of our daily routines and stepping back to reflect on what it is that makes us happy or otherwise can also contribute to a healthier life. But what if you’ve tried yoga and found you’re just not destined to be flexible, or you don’t have the patience for meditation, what are some habits you can adopt that will deliver similar results? We’ve already heard from a leading mental health institute about how you can look after yourself during the lockdown, but once the rules are lifted, you’ll do well to adopt some new habits (or improve upon some current ones) that will do wonders for your mental wellbeing.Business Insider thinks it has the answer, as it has compiled a list of habits from users on Quorathat you would probably rather not do owing to the fact they can be pretty uncomfortable. But the users who posted them swear by them and claim their lives are far better for it.Some of the simplest changes you can make to your usual routine can include waking up earlier, and by that, we mean before the sun even rises. We’re well aware that the very idea of getting out bed while it’s still dark outside can be enough to make even the most zen of people shudder, however, being able to take a (very) early morning walk or a quick workout while it’s eerily quiet can help your body wake up, putting you in a better mood for the rest of the day.The mention of a quick workout segues nicely onto another habit you would do well to adopt, not just for your mental health, but your overall health and fitness, too. Exercise. We’ve previously discussed and deliberated the pros and cons of working out in the morning compared to the evening, and while there may not be a right or wrong answer, the benefits of getting your fitness fix first thing are certainly attractive.Other users, such as Ryan Brown, suggest being more honest in your approach to friends and family by writing letters regaling your thoughts and opinions about them, regardless of whether they’re good or bad. “If you’re being really honest, each letter you write should make you quite emotional as you are writing it,”

“That is how you know you have tapped into your actual emotions and feelings – that it actually means something to you.”

One habit you may think would do more mental harm than good is to take cold showers. There will definitely be people out there who already stand under cold water in the name of hygiene. But for those that don’t, not only will you still reap the benefits of a clean body, but you will also have taken yourself out of your comfort zone. The bonus being you’re in the safety of your own home, with nobody watching, so what could possibly go wrong?Where it’s fair to say stepping out of your comfort zone can be a daunting prospect is in the world of dating. It’s far easier said than done to just go up to someone and start talking to them, as there’s always going to be the possibility of rejection. But next time you catch the eye of someone across the room – or as is the case right now, you match with someone on a dating app – put yourself out there. Worst case you’re rejected, but as Mark Toole says, this can be spun into a hilarious story to tell your friends. However, best-case scenario, you score yourself a date. It’s a win-win.

Expert Reveals The Risks Of Buying A Second-Hand Car Interstate Right Now
Expert Reveals The Risks Of Buying A Second-Hand Car Interstate Right Now

Buying a car right now may, to many at least, be way, way down on a list of priorities. It’s fair enough, an awful lot of Australians are out of work right now – so forking out for a new (or used) motor may not be feasible. But on the contrary, used car expert and owner of Melbourne’s MOTORbiz Luke Lalor says “it’s a great time to buy a car right now” because dealers will be wanting to offload stock and so will be reducing the price of cars to reflect it. You shouldn’t, however, try and haggle when you get to the showroom because you’ll likely be shown the door.Another thing you should really try and avoid, according to Luke, is buying a car from another state. We can understand why you may want to look further afield than the suburbs near your home. You may be able to find unobtainable models, or you’ll see something more affordable or in the colour, you’ve longed for.But Luke’s advice, “Don’t go interstate if you can avoid it.”Why? “There will always be cheaper cars if you look to other states, of course there will. The car you’ve been looking for maybe $5k cheaper for example.”

“But once you factor in getting there, the rego costs, the freight costs and making it roadworthy, you’re going to spend more than if you looked closer to home.”

To expand on Luke’s words, and for the uninitiated, when you buy a car from another state, you will then need to pay to have the registration transferred over to your home state. Not to mention the cost of simply transferring the vehicle into your name. And if you’re transferring a vehicle from any state into NSW, you’ll need to pay for compulsory green slip insurance before you can even think about registering the vehicle. The cost of compulsory insurance will vary depending on the vehicle you’re looking to insure. Add to that a truckload of paperwork and unnecessary hassle and you may soon start to regret that long-distance purchase. There can, however, according to Luke at least, be instances where buying interstate can be acceptable.“Unless you’re buying something exotic where you could be saving somewhere in the region of $10k, compared to a similar model closer to home, once you add on the costs involved in getting it back, you’ll still end up with a deal.”Given his opposing stance to buying interstate, we asked Luke what he believes to be the benefits of sourcing a new car closer to home.“You know, or can at least find out, its local history and dealers should even give you some sort of warranty should anything go wrong.”

“If you buy from another state this won’t be such a viable option as you’re not going to drive it several thousand kilometres just to get something fixed under warranty.”

So next time you decide to visit Carsales, unless you’re looking for something particularly noteworthy or rare, stick to your home turf. You’ll save yourself a fortune.

New Qatar Airways Policy Takes In-Flight Hygiene To New Heights
New Qatar Airways Policy Takes In-Flight Hygiene To New Heights

As the world’s airlines adapt to These Tumbleweed Times, Qatar Airways has pushed above the rest with an in-flight hygiene policy that puts even Naomie Campbell to shame.

On the 18th of May, Qatar Airways announced the change, which involves endowing cabin crew with disposable full-body protective gear during flights.

This comes alongside a series of other moves designed to step up security measures onboard, including a modified service that reduces interactions between the passengers and crew inflight.

Though cabin crew have already been wearing PPE during flights for a number of weeks (including gloves and face masks) they will now wear the PPE suit over their uniforms in addition to safety goggles, gloves and a mask to provide even greater reassurance to passengers.

The airline will also require passengers from Monday, May 25, to wear face coverings inflight and recommends people bring their own for fit and comfort purposes (though, if you want to go full Naomie Campbell, we doubt anyone will mind if you don your own suit too).

In addition, Business Class meals will be served on a tray instead of a table set up, and a cutlery wrap will be offered to passengers as an alternative to individual cutlery service, in an effort to reduce contact between the crew and the passengers.

“Passengers flying Business Class can avail of the enhanced privacy the Qsuite provides include sliding privacy partitions and fully closing doors creating a private sanctuary. Passengers can also opt to the ‘Do Not Disturb (DND)’ indicator in their private suite, if they wish to limit their interactions with the cabin crew.”

As for cattle class, all meals and cutlery are served sealed as usual, while large bottles of hand sanitiser will be placed in the galleys and made available for both cabin crew and passengers. On top of that, “all social areas onboard the aircraft have also been closed to observe social distancing measures,” Qatar Airways announced.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “At Qatar Airways, we have introduced these additional safety measures onboard our flights to ensure the continued health and wellbeing of our passengers and cabin crew, and to limit the spread of coronavirus. As an airline, we maintain the highest possible hygiene standards to ensure that we can fly people home safely during this time and provide even greater reassurance that safety is our number one priority.”

“Seeing as we are still flying the world’s largest international network by operating flights to more than 30 destinations around the world, and aiming to grow our network again in the coming months, these onboard safety measures will assist us in achieving our goals.”

Qatar Airways’ aircraft also continue to be regularly disinfected using cleaning products recommended by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Its home airport, Hamad International Airport, has also invested in deploying disinfectant robots, fully autonomous mobile emitting concentrated UV-C light known to be effective in eliminating majority of infectious microorganisms.

Qatar Airways’ aircraft also continue to feature cutting edge air filtration systems, with industrial filters that remove 99.97% of viral and bacterial contaminants from re-circulated air, providing the most effective protection against infection. Likewise, all the airline’s onboard linen and blankets are still being washed, dried and pressed at microbial lethal temperatures, while its headsets are removed of ear foams and rigorously sanitized after each flight.

More broadly speaking, Qatar Airways has recently made headlines for their tantalising business class deals, with savvy frequent fliers scooping up $700 return flights to Europe, “Made possible by Qatar Airways’ flexible new booking policies and 5,000-mile radius rule (which enables you to change your destination city free of charge as long as it’s within 5,000 miles from the original destination).

As other airlines follow suit (and as Qatar Airways gradually starts flying more routes), these measures help provide a crucial barrier in curbing the pandemic, as lockdown restrictions around the globe slowly ease.

Daniel Ricciardo’s “Reaction Training” Is The Perfect Way To Switch Up Your Boring Iso Workout
Daniel Ricciardo’s “Reaction Training” Is The Perfect Way To Switch Up Your Boring Iso Workout

We’re sure you’ve either secured yourself a workout routine to follow by now, or you’re well aware that during isolation you’re going to be spending a lot more time on the couch, but plan to get back into the swing of things when lockdown lifts. But regular weights and cardio regimes can get a little stagnant. Enter: Australian Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo who may have just the thing to help you switch things up: reaction training. Reaction training has numerous benefits outside of just the sporting world. Obviously it has its merits in places such as football, boxing, tennis and of course, Formula One, but as a general skill, it’s certainly one you’d want to improve.

In Daniel’s example, he’s competing against a friend (he’s an F1 driver after all, so that has to be some sort of competition involved), bent over a tennis ball. A third friend calls out instructions for the guys to put their hands on various parts of their bodies: head, hips, knees, ankles, toes etc, before grabbing the ball to determine the winner.Daniel proves victorious in the battle, but for a man of his driving calibre, you’d probably expect it.So what actually is reaction training and how do you improve it? Freeletics explains our reaction times are “determined and controlled by our nervous systems.”When we receive an action to react to – in Daniel’s case, being told where to put his hands – the sensor responsible (eyes, ears etc) sends a signal to the brain. The brain analyses the signal via “the efferent motoric neurons.”It then gets passed on “to the muscles, which then execute the instruction. All of this happens almost instantly.”There myriad ways you can improve your reaction times, most of which involve some form of exercise, so double the benefits, right? Freeletics adds these can include running on uneven terrain to help train your brain to avoid various obstacles and to stay more alert; or you can run through exercise drills slowly to help your body learn a routine, so when you’re asked to perform it at a quicker speed, your brain will know what to do.Remember, reaction times are different to reflexes. Put your arms out to protect you when you fall, or catch a glass before it topples over? They’re reflexes. The difference? Freeletics chimes in by saying reflexes are your body’s way of protecting you from harm, and because this usually requires an even faster reaction than a reaction, the signals actually skip your brain and instead immediately go through the spinal cord. So, if you want to improve your reaction times, no amount of forcing yourself to trip over is going to help.

2020 Could Be Australia’s Best Ski Season In Years, Meteorologist Claims
2020 Could Be Australia’s Best Ski Season In Years, Meteorologist Claims

Dig up your thermals and pour some schnapps – Australia’s ski season just got thrown a lifeline. Better yet: 2020 could be the best season in years.

But first: context. A NSW government announcement yesterday gave ski resorts the green light to open.

The media release stated: “NSW citizens will be able take recreational trips across NSW, as long as they maintain social distancing and good hygiene.”

“Very pleased to share that this means we will have a ski season this year,” Deputy Premier John Baliaro said.

On top of that, this could be the best snow season Australia’s had since Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were an item. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, though resorts are opening, they will do so with certain conditions, which may see the slopes less crowded than usual.

Secondly, and most importantly, El Niño drought “factors” that have plagued us of late have now switched off, leading experts to say this year’s snow season could be the best we’ve had in years.

As meteorologist Nate Byrne explains, writing for the ABC, “Waters have finally warmed off the north-west, providing a good source of moisture to be dragged across to the east by cold fronts that are once again skimming through southern Australia.”

“The increased moisture means that the long-range outlook for winter so far is a lot wetter than we’ve seen for years.”

“Add in cold air from Antarctic waters making it up to Australia’s south-east, and all of the ingredients are right for bumper snow falls this season.”

As for the crowds – or the potential reduction thereof – here at DMARGE we’re drawing hope from a recent report by The Australian Financial Review. As reported by the AFR, Australian Ski Areas Association chief executive Colin Hackworth said winter 2020 will look quite different to years past.

“Social distancing is going to be with us for some time to come, certainly longer than by the end of this ski season,” he said.

“In ski lift queues, for example, tip to tail with your skis plus horizontal spacing. Riding on ski lifts, you ride with your family or co-habitating members or you ride alone.”

“With equipment rental, it may be that helmets and clothing are not rented out this year unless the resorts can guarantee that it is safe to do so.”

While these changes could also make for a more frustrating experience if the same number of people (2.5 million) hit the snow in 2020, if the threat of them (and The Pandemic they’re designed to curb) keeps enough people away, who knows, maybe you’ll be able to complete a Green Run this year without being knee-capped by an errant snowboarder?

The powder awaits.
