TAG Heuer’s Gold Carrera Is A Throwback To Motorsport’s Glory Days
TAG Heuer’s Gold Carrera Is A Throwback To Motorsport’s Glory Days

Watches have always been used to celebrate success – either as gifts to champions for impressive achievements or as gifts to oneself to mark that “you’ve made it”. TAG Heuer’s latest, most luxurious timepiece, however, might be the ultimate winner’s spoils.

There are few watchmakers more intimately connected to motorsports than TAG Heuer. Indeed, their most famous watch – the Carrera, a chronograph explicitly designed for the racetrack – is named after a famous road race, the Carrera Panamericana rally.

1970 saw the arrival of the first yellow gold automatic Carrera, the Heuer ref. 1158 CHN, which were then-CEO Jack Heuer’s personal favourite. Jack, a bit of a maverick and a canny salesman, was very fond of gifting these luxe Carreras to winning drivers, marking them out as must-have signals of success – a brilliant marketing strategy.

Those early gold Carreras are highly sought after and are a real grail for collectors. Thankfully, in 2022, TAG has brought back the gold Carrera, debuting a stylish new dial design and implementing a variety of quality-of-life updates, making these new gold Carreras more precious than ever.

As you might have guessed, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph (ref. CBN2044.FC8113) boasts an 18ct yellow gold case, hardware and a black alligator strap with a gold pin buckle. So far, so bougie.

Gilded details make this Carrera particularly luxe.

It’s the new dial design that’s particularly interesting: black with gold sundials. It’s actually the inverse of the 70s ref. 1158 CHN – but motorsports fans will immediately recognise it as the same colours of the famous John Player Special livery, which graced cars throughout multiple motorsports, from Formula 1 to V8 Supercars. Subtle, sumptuous and full of history, it’s a great design.

Under the hood beats the Calibre Heuer 02, TAG’s capable in-house chronograph movement. With an 80-hour power reserve and 100m of water resistance (not that you’re likely to go diving with such a watch), it’s just as capable as a race-winning car, too.

TAG Heuer has already had a pretty amazing year of releases: the insane Carrera Plasma, the tasty purple Monaco, Ryan Gosling rocking a Carrera ‘3 Hands’ in The Gray Man But they’re just going from strength to strength with this gold Carrera.

It’s a uniquely luxurious and classy piece that pays homage to the glory days of motorsport – big egos, fast and dangerous cars, the glamour of the jet set – while also not being overly ostentatious. Find out more about it here.

ASX Torches $250 Million Crypto Project After Damning Review
ASX Torches $250 Million Crypto Project After Damning Review

The ASX has decided to dump a blockchain project that they have invested $250 million in, after it all got a bit too hard.

ASX has waved ciao to the blockchain project that was supposed to replace its ageing CHESS settlement and clearing system. For those who don’t know, CHESS stands for Clearing House Electronic Sub-register System. The system exchanges cash for securities irrevocably.

According to the Australian Financial Review, a report from Accenture identified a range of problems with the new blockchain project “including uncertain timelines, communication issues with technology vendor Digital Asset and excessive complexity.”

As a result, they have decided to write the project off and go back to a more traditional clearing and settlement system (modernising it but also maintaining the legacy infrastructure).

“ASX will write off $245 million to $255 million pre-tax in costs associated with the project, which has dragged on for seven years,” The Australian Financial Review reports.

“In a harsh blow to the credibility of the exchange and to distributed ledger technology more broadly, the independent report by Accenture highlighted significant gaps and deficiencies with the design of the system and ASX’s ability to deliver it.”

Image: Reuters

The Sydney Morning Herald further reports that “the ASX had been investing in the technology project since 2017 and the go-live date had been pushed back due to a range of factors including COVID-19, complaints from the industry about lack of consultation and technological setbacks.”

Though the massive $250 million figure will undoubtedly be pointed to as a huge waste of time and resources, The ASX said “the writeoff does not prevent the ASX from using some of the technology developed,” the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

RELATED: Finance Expert Reveals How To Cut Your Losses Like A Pro

ASX chairman Damian Roche said: “On behalf of ASX, I apologise for the disruption experienced in relation to the CHESS replacement project over a number of years.”

Given the project was going to be, as Gizmodo puts it, “used globally as an example of the world’s first, actual industrial-scale blockchain use case,” this is yet another crushing blow to the crypto faithfuls of the world.

But given the wild ups and downs we’ve already seen in the world of crypto, perhaps we should just see this as par for the course?

Angela White is an Australian adult film star and director who works predominantly in the United States.

She is one of the industry’s biggest stars, alongside names such as Lana Rhoades, with a career spanning nearly two decades.

She was inducted into Adult Video News (AVN) Hall of Fame in 2018. She has also won the AVN Female Performer of the Year award three times in a row from 2018-2020, becoming the first person to achieve the feat.

XBIZ.com called Angela White, “Australia’s most well-known adult performer,” and The Daily Beast also referred to her as “The Meryl Streep of Porn.”

Early Life

Angela White was born in Sydney, Australia on 4 March 1985. She lived in Central Sydney until she was eight-year-old, before moving with her family to a farm in Victoria. She moved back to the East Coast for high school.

Whilst in high school Angela White was teased for her sexuality. She said, “I openly identified as bisexual in my teens, and in high school I was criticised for being a slut and a lesbian.”

“Basically, I wasn’t doing my sexuality right.”

She revealed that this motivated her to enter the adult film industry, where she saw pornography as a celebration.

She said, “ I saw people on the screen having sex with multiple people, like, different locations, different people, multiple genders, and it was celebrated.”

In 2003, aged 18 and still in high school, Angela White started doing nude modelling.

Education

Angela White began college in 2005, and soon enrolled at the University of Melbourne. She graduated in 2010 with first-class honours in Gender Studies.

For her honours thesis, she studied women’s experiences in the pornography industry. Her paper, ‘The Porn Performer: The Radical Potential of Pleasure in Pornography’ was published in The Routledge Companion to Media, Sex and Sexuality in 2017.

In 2014, Angela White revealed that she would like to go back and complete her PHD, expanding on her studies to include a broader cross-section of performers.

Angela White’s adult film career

Angela White began her adult film career in 2003, shortly after her 18th birthday. She became the first Australian to pose for Score Group in the U.S. within the year.

In 2013, she launched her own official website AngelaWhite.com, where she was able to produce and direct her own content. This allowed her “to truly explore my sexuality on [her] own terms.”

In 2014, Angela White secretly filmed herself for a scene in the library of Melbourne’s La Trobe University. She never meant to release the amateur video, to which the university said they were “shocked and appalled.”

In 2016, she revealed she had moved to the United States and had signed with pornographic talent agent Mark Spiegler. She began to shoot for companies such as Brazzers, Naughty America and other directors such as Jules Jordan. She would later go on to sign an exclusive deal with Brazzers in 2021.

Angela White has starred in over 150 adult films. Image: @Angela White

In January 2018, Angela White hosted the 35th Annual AVN Awards show in Las Vegas. That year she took home ‘Female Performer of the Year’, which she would win for the next two years running.

In 2022, she released ‘Sexually Rated Programming’, a short film set in a dystopian future, where she attempts to, “set free a submissive society brainwashed by anti-erotic propaganda.”

She has worked on over 150 adult movies since the start of her career and has been highly praised for her career; long-time filmmaker Mark Spiegler said:

“For this day and age, she’s the perfect storm of a porn star… she’s a master of all trades: she does the casting, the producing, the directing.”

He continued, “She even does the editing in her own movies, and not like slap together a scene either—she’ll spend a week or two editing one scene and painting with small brushes.”

She was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2018 and he XRCO Hall of fame in 2020.

She also started an Only Fans.

Other ventures

Angela White also regularly partakes in webcam modelling. Speaking to Buzzfeed, she said, “I see the porn industry moving towards more live streaming and interactivity, which is what I’m working to accomplish with my site.”

Her first feature in a mainstream television show was on poplar Australian comedy Pizza.

In 2010, she ran for Australian office in the Victorian state elections as a member of the Australian Sex Party to protect the rights of sex workers. She revealed she had no intention of winning, “My angle wasn’t necessarily to win. I wanted to make sure that Kathleen Maltzahn [a candidate who wanted to criminalise sex work] didn’t win.”

She also became known amongst Australians as she sent DVDs of her films to Attorney General Rob Hulls to reduce the regulation of hardcore pornographic movies.

She also runs her own production company, AGW Entertainment B.V.

Angela White’s relationships

Angela White tends to keep her relationships private.

She has been linked to fellow adult film stars Seth Gamble and Manuel Ferrara.

Angela White’s net worth

Angela White’s exact net worth is not known, but it is estimated to be anywhere between $1 million – $8 million.

Apple Founder Steve Jobs’ Birkenstocks Sell For $327,000 At Auction
Apple Founder Steve Jobs’ Birkenstocks Sell For $327,000 At Auction

Technology giant Apple is known for design, high prices and a community of fanboys that go gaga for anything it releases. Well, now one mega fanboy has paid top dollar for a pair of Birkenstock Arizona sandals worn by the late Steve Jobs himself.

According to ABC, the “well-used” Birkenstocks in question were recently sold at an auction in New York City for a huge AU$327,000. They’re claimed to have been worn by Steve Jobs during the 1970s in the “California home where he created the company.” Perhaps the new owner (who hasn’t been named) is hoping they contain mystical powers that will enable them to startup an Uber-successful company, too.

There’s no word of a certificate of authenticity, but the auction house is claimed to have said “The cork and jute footbed [of the Birkenstocks] retains the imprint of Steve Job’s feet, which had been shaped after years of use.” Mark Sheff, who managed Steve Jobs’ Albany, California estate in the 1980s, is said to be the man who listed them for auction, according to NPR.

Julien’s Auctions, the auction house responsible for selling the magic Birks, expected them to fetch a measly US$60,000/AU$89,570. But hell hath no fury like an Apple fanboy scorned, and so, determined to make sure they claimed the Birkenstocks – which were sold with an accompanying NFT image of the Birkenstocks – the winner forked out US$218,750/AU$326,541.

Fortunately, the buckles were included in the sale price.

It’s not the first time some Steve Jobs-related memorabilia has sold for incredible sums of money. The ABC also reported in March 2018 that a one-page job application filled out by the late Apple founder in 1973 – Steve Jobs passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2011 – was sold at auction for US$174,757/AU$226,548.

Porsche Confirms 911 Dakar Off-Roader Is Coming To Australia
Porsche Confirms 911 Dakar Off-Roader Is Coming To Australia

Porsche have just announced the arrival of the 911 Dakar, a variant of the supremely iconic two-door sports car, but with one major change. This one can go off-road.

Porsche has confirmed the 911 Dakar will be coming to Australia, although with only 2500 of them being made available worldwide, we imagine only a small number will make their way Down Under.

For those who do manage to get their hands on one when they arrive in Australia – delivered are expected in the second half of 2023 – you’ll have to pay $491,400, before on-road costs.

An optional Rally Design Package will be made available too, for an extra $54,730. This package gives the 911 Dakar a new two-tone white and blue paint job with red and gold stripes, paying homage to the 911 that won the Paris-Dakar in 1984.

Power is on par with the Carrera GTS, and is confirmed to come from a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six, producing 353kW of power and 570Nm of torque. Porsche claim the 911 Dakar will make it to 100km/h in 3.4-seconds.

Porsche’s new trail road chomper is named after the former Paris-Dakar Rally (now simply known as the Dakar Rally), which Porsche won for the first time in its history in 1984, with the Porsche 953 (a heavily modified version of the 911 built specifically for the rally event).

The Rallye Design Package gives the 911 Dakar a new two-tone white and blue paint job with red and gold stripes, paying homage to the 911 that won the Paris-Dakar in 1984.

That car was the first Porsche to receive an all-wheel-drive system, which eventually became a staple of Porsche’s for years to come.

Porsche says their latest creation is “the first two-door sports car to offer off-road capabilities,” and after seeing pictures of where it has been tested, it certainly seems capable.

According to Porsche, the 911 Dakar has been driven more than half a million kilometres during testing, with 10,000 kilometres of this specifically being off-road. Chief among its features that enable it to be used in more demanding conditions, the 911 Dakar sits 50mm taller than a regular Carrera by default, and can be raised a further 30mm if needed.

In a nice hark back, much of the testing occurred in the south of France at the Château de Lastours test track, where a number of rally teams test their car prior to the Dakar rally.

Wanting to understand how well the off-road trail chomper performed in the cold, Porsche also tested their car on snow and frozen lakes in Sweden as well as off of 50-metre-high dunes in the deserts of Dubai and Morocco.

Porsche works driver Romain Dumas had high praise for the vehicle, saying, “I knew what a 911 could do on the road, but I was absolutely stunned by how well the car performed here on the loose.”

While it’s certainly a sight to behold, a standard-looking Porsche 911 (albeit slightly raised) tearing up sand dunes and snow-covered roadways, Porsche actually seems to be a little late to the ‘Safari’ car trend that proved to be especially popular in Australia during the pandemic. ‘Safari-ing’ your car means to turn a car that was never designed to go off-road, into something that is more than at home tearing up some trails.

The 911 Dakar sits 50mm taller than a regular Carrera by default, and can be raised a further 30mm if needed.

Other features of the Dakar that tie-in with the Safari trend include a new rear wing red aluminium towing hooks, a wider body and an external 12V outlet on the roof for plugging in the headlights of the optional roof rack. The roof rack, by the way, can take up to 42kgs of weight, and there will even be an optional rooftop tent available to attach to it, so you can genuinely spend days away in the outback, all while in the comfort of a Porsche 911.

You’ll have to take just yourself and one other person, however, as there are no rear seats. Cars delivered to Australia will also get an air compressor and tyre sealant as standard.

Watch As KLM 747 Blows Crowd Into Ocean At ‘World’s Most Dangerous Airport’
Watch As KLM 747 Blows Crowd Into Ocean At ‘World’s Most Dangerous Airport’

A video showing a 747 blasting onlookers into the water at St Maarten has shocked the Internet, and showcased the power of a 747’s jets.

A video of a 747 taking off from the Caribbean island St Maarten, resurfaced by @ilove_aviation on Twitter, has shown what can happen if you are behind a jet engine during take off. In the clip, the plane can be seen taxiing around ominously, with the palm trees of Maho beach shaking in the breeze (a bit of unintentional foreshadowing for what was next).

Next, the jet turns its backside around, pivoting until the people standing next to it are nicely ensconced behind its wing (though, at least they are behind a fence). Finally, the jet takes off (some allege the pilots hold the brakes on for longer than usual on purpose, either to help them lift over the mountain ahead or to deliberately please the crowd), whipping up a Tatooine-like wind, sending many beachgoers and plane spotters running for cover into the water. Others try to fight the blast, holding onto the fence.

WATCH: 747 jet blows plane spotters into ocean

This iconic plane-spotting destination for 747s is no more, with the video being posted to Youtube in 2014. The location is still a favourite with aviation geeks, however (though the Boeing 747 no longer flies to the island, with the last 747 flight from this spot taking place in October of 2016).

As for the dangerous glory days, one Youtube commenter claims: “I’m a retired flight attendant. I flew there many times. The pilots saw this as a perk of the job. Plus…you have to take off hard and fast. Mountain in front of you.”

Another Youtube user wrote: “If it can take that massive thing into the air at 500+ mph, what could it do to your body? LETS STAND RIGHT BEHIND IT AND FIND OUT!!!”

Other bamboozled netizens wrote things like: “What has fascinated me is that after all those countless takeoffs that happened there, there’s still sand on that beach” and “I did this a few years ago, as the MD-80 was lining up to take off, the Co-pilot opened his window and cheered the crowed lined up on the fence!”

“The captain spooled the engines to full power and stood on the brakes for about 45 seconds, it lifted some of us off our feet like kites holding onto the fence…. what a ride!! Thank you thanks guys!!, btw, i’m a flight student!!”

Over on Twitter similar levels of shock and awe were recorded. One commenter wrote: “Why did they even think its okay to be that close to the jumbo?” while another responded: “You must not understand. The main reason why they booked at GetBlownAwayByA747 Holidays was to get blown away by a 747.”

Another said: “There are clear warning signs before you enter this beach. Its popular with both locals and tourists. There are even places to buy food and drink right next to it. It’s kind of like some people think the risk of mountain climbing is worth it, others not.”

A 57-year-old woman from New Zealand was killed by a jet engine blast at this location in 2017. She was standing behind a fence near the runway when a Boeing 737 took off. The blast reportedly pushed her backwards, and she hit her head on the concrete.

No one had died as a result of jet blasts at the airport before 2017. Various injuries had occurred though, such as an incident in 2012, when two tourists suffered a broken leg and a head injury in 2012.

According to The Guardian, the police at the time of the New Zealand woman’s tragic death in 2017 said: “The landing and taking-off of all types and size of aircraft at the international airport of St Maarten is well known worldwide as major tourist attraction.”

“Many tourists come to the island to experience the thrills of the landing of approaching aircraft flying low above their heads and the holding on to the airport fence and standing in the jet blast of large aircraft taking off.”

“Doing this is, however, extremely dangerous.”

61-Year-Old Billy Ray Cyrus Cures His Achy Breaky Heart With Engagement To 34-Year-Old Singer
61-Year-Old Billy Ray Cyrus Cures His Achy Breaky Heart With Engagement To 34-Year-Old Singer

61-year-old American country singer songwriter Billy Ray Cyrus has confirmed he’s now engaged to 34-year-old Australian singer Firerose.

Billy Ray Cyrus, father of Miley and multi-platinum selling country music artist, has confirmed he has become engaged to Australian singer Firerose, 27 years his junior. According to People Magazine, the couple met some 12 years ago on the set of Hannah Montana, where Billy Ray was filming alongside his daughter.

He claims it was his dog, Tex, that played cupid, after Firerose – a name her grandmother gave her in Australia and to which she legally changed it – was also on the studio lot and went over to say hi to Tex. Billy Ray says the moment he saw Firerose, he thought: “This girl’s a star.”

The pair remained friends over the years and worked with each other on music projects, even releasing a single together. At the time, however, Billy Ray was still married to his second wife, Tish Finley (mother of Miley). Once their divorce was finalised, after a third time of filing, and then being struck down with the pandemic, Billy Ray and Firerose became closer and took their relationship to the next level.

He said the pandemic presented: “A moment of so much change. And at the same time, Firerose, who had been such a light of positivity, such a best friend.”

“And then when we began sharing the music, it just evolved more into, as musical soulmates, to soulmates, happy, pure love that to me, I didn’t know could exist. Again, we’re musicians, first and foremost, both of us. And we found this harmony, and this rhythm, this melody to life.”

He then proposed to Firerose in the summer, although without a ring at the time. Firerose said yes and then designed her own engagement ring.

There will no doubt be some who have their opinion of the 27-year age gap shared between the two, but it’s far from the first time we’ve seen a high-profile couple born in separate generations come together. There is, of course, Leonardo DiCaprio, who doesn’t seem capable of dating anyone over the age of 25 – although he’s rumoured to have broken his rule by being connected with American model Gigi Hadid.

And then there’s Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren, who is engaged to 24-year-old Norwegian fitness expert Emma Krokdal.

Every man and his dog seems to find it “disgusting” when an older man becomes romantically involved with a much younger woman, but there’s usually a clear case of double standards. A younger man is often praised if he dates an older woman, but an older man dating a younger woman is labelled ‘creepy’.

But, for the most part, comments on Billy Ray and Firerose’s (cryptic) engagement announcement post, have been largely positive.

One user, quite rightly says, “She’s living every woman’s dream. Age is a number when ur consenting adults.” While many others are quick to offer their “congratulations.”

But, you still get some who don’t approve and who want to make their opinion known. There are still plenty of comments littering the post not in favour of the engagement, including “Ewww”, “Yuck”, and “Pervert.”

Seems like this age old debate is one that will never be settled.

Qatar 2022 Cost: The Most Expensive World Cup In History
Qatar 2022 Cost: The Most Expensive World Cup In History

Qatar have reportedly spent as much as $220 billion (AU $325.6 billion) on this year’s World Cup, making it the most expensive in history and almost 15 times higher than the next dearest.

From the minute Qatar bribed officials to be awarded the controversial 2022 FIFA World Cup, they were clearly willing to spend a significant amount of money on the tournament.

To put the $220 billion figure in perspective, that is enough to pay for Australia’s defence spending for the next six and a half years.

According to Front Office Sports, the next most expensive World Cup was Brazil in 2014, which cost $15 billion (AU $22.2 billion), followed by Russia in 2018 which cost 11.6 billion (AU $17.1 billion).

One would imagine the majority of the gargantuan figure would go towards building the seven new stadiums that were needed to accommodate the games, but this is not the case. Less than $10 billion is going towards this.

According to other sources, the rest of the money was spent on transportation, hospitality, telecommunications and security. $36 billion (AU $53.4 billion) was spent on a metro system for Doha and a new airport amongst other improvements.

Despite spending that much money, Qatar reportedly have still not manage to secure enough accommodation for the reported 1.2 million visitors arriving for the World Cup; that is, if the fans are even legitimate. Fans can expect to stay in pop-up shipping container-like rooms or tents amongst other rooms.

Dezeen's guide to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar stadium architecture
Constructing the stadiums needed for the World Cup cost the Qatari government less than $10 billion of the $220 billion total expendature. Image: @Dezeen

Even though the country’s population is only three million, Qatar’s GDP is approximately $180 billion (AU $276 billion) in 2022 thanks to its natural gas riches. This means that since they awarded the World Cup back in 2010, they have spent on average $18.3 billion (AU $27.2 billion) a year, or over 10% of their GDP.

But Qatar are not even expecting that much – in the grand scheme of things – in return for their huge investment. Sources say that the Middle Eastern country is ‘only’ anticipating adding $17 billion (AU $25.2 billion) to the country’s economy.

Perhaps, Qatar are hoping that by spending so much money on the tournament, it will elevate their status as a ‘bigger player’ in world geopolitics, or boost foreign trade and tourism in the long run.

Qatar has spent over roughly 10% of its GDP on the World Cup every year since 2010. Image: @go.qatar.2022

But, it will be tricky to forget a World Cup that has been mired in controversy since its inception, with the sweltering conditions forcing the tournament to be moved to winter, to the awful working conditions which migrant workers have been subjected to, something which the Qatari government refutes.

Maybe somewhere in that $220 billion, they can do the decent thing and find the money to compensate these workers. Although, this is probably wishful thinking.

Abandoned Playboy-Themed Mansion From 1972 ‘Has Definitely Seen Some Sh*t’

Photos of an abandoned mansion from 1972 have sent social media users’ neurons flying, with images of leopard chairs, rotting hot tubs and an old pool shocking and amazing the Internet.

Images of an abandoned playboy-themed mansion from 1972 have left the followers of Instagram account Pubity picking their eyeballs off the floor.

While some got all starry-eyed, others looked back on the era with mild disgust (“shine a blue light in there and it’s over”). One commenter wrote: “That place has definitely seen some shit” while another suggested: “You could literally snort the wallpaper and get zooted.”

Further remarks included: “I wonder how many hidden doors and rooms they have that no one knows about” and “How does a property that big just go to shit?”

Other observations centres around the chandeliers (how are them… still there?”) and whether “this is a secret level of Tony Hawk Pro Skater.”

Speaking to one of their followers, @abandoned_southeast wrote: “Last time I heard somebody went here the cops pulled them out at gun point and they spent the night in jail. Be safe!”

One theory of the property is that it’s an old swingers palace called The Tiki Palace. According to Abandoned Spaces, “The Tiki Palace was supposed to be a dream home for its owner, Bill Hull. He was the owner of two strip clubs, The Castaways Club and Lion’s Den, located next to each other. Hull had his eye on Mission Ridge, overlooking the city, as a perfect spot for his dream home and party venue.”

“In 1969, Bill Hull hired architect Ed Ball to design Tiki Palace. The architect spent two years planning the most fantastic house in Chattanooga. Construction took 14 months. Finally, when the house was ready in 1972, about 10,000 people attended its open day.”

However, in 1973, Hull was apparently “found guilty of paying his friend, Larry Parker, to shoot his wife’s lover as he was leaving a rival club,” Abandoned Spaces writes. “The court proceedings lasted four years and ended with Hull being sentenced to 20 years in prison.”

“In 1977, charges of corruption were brought against him, although they didn’t stick. Then, in the 1980s, Bill Hull was found guilty of evading taxes at his nightclubs and also tax evasion in relation to his grandmother’s fortune, which she had acquired through trading in contraband whiskey,” (Abandoned Spaces).
