“I love gold! The look of it! The smell of it! The taste of it! The texture!” Gold has always been seen as a symbol of distinction, with flashes of its bright tones making any timepiece all the more recognisable.
The versatility of gold lends itself to classical, conservative pieces, which respect the traditions and codes of watchmaking, to statement pieces, which utilise the colour of gold to draw all eyes to its desirable lustre.
Naturally, watchmakers often choose gold to house their most fanciful mechanical creations – so many of the world’s most impressive and exclusive watches are gold watches.
Here, we present a few of our favourite gold watches that make a statement for all the right reasons.
In this best gold watches article…
- Glashütte Original PanoMaticCalendar
- Rolex Day-Date 40 ‘President’
- Hublot Big Bang MECA-10 King Gold
- Cartier Tank Louis Cartier
- Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222
- Grand Seiko Evolution 9 ‘Tree Rings’
- Chopard Alpine Eagle
- A. Lange & Söhne Triple Split
- OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Moonshine Gold
- Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold Double Balance Wheel Openworked
Glashütte Original PanoMaticCalendar

Let’s start things off with something a bit ornate – gold tends to suit high-end watches, funnily enough. The Glashütte Original PanoMaticCalendar is both highly traditional and somewhat avant-garde, combining classic high watchmaking mechanics with an original design.
This annual calendar watch features an offset time-telling dial with a panoramic date window, moonphase indicator and a unique, curvaceous month display, all housed in a lustrous pink gold case.
Retail Price: AU$43,500
Rolex Day-Date 40 ‘President’

No other watch screams ‘old money’ quite like the classic Rolex Day-Date ‘President’. The nickname specifically refers to the yellow gold version of this watch on a ‘President’ bracelet and refers to the fact that every US President from LBJ to Clinton wore one of these bad boys while in office.
As the name implies, it features a day and a date window, the former spelling out the day of the week in full. The Day-Date is only ever made in precious metals (primarily gold) and is available in 16 different languages. This year, Rolex even released a fully platinum version of the Day-Date – but the buttery, yellow gold President is a timeless classic.
Retail Price: AU$52,850
Hublot Big Bang MECA-10 King Gold

Gold in all its forms has been prized since ancient times – but Hublot has taken the metal and modernised it for the 21st century. The entire case of the Big Bang MECA-10 King Gold is made of Hublot’s proprietary blend of 18ct King Gold, which doesn’t just look impressive, it’s the composition of the gold itself and its new-found properties that really puts it ahead of the pack.
The Hublot Metallurgy Department successfully combined ceramic and gold to create the world’s first and only scratch-proof gold. The matte finishing of its case combined with its unique colour really set the watch apart. That’s before we start talking about its MECA-10 movement, which boasts a whopping 10-day power reserve and an eye-catching power reserve indicator.
Retail Price: AU$61,500
Cartier Tank Louis Cartier

The Cartier Tank is arguably the archetypal dress watch… There’s a solid argument to be made that no man’s wardrobe would be complete without a gold Tank. First created by Louis Cartier in 1917 and inspired by the new Renault tanks which saw use on the Western Front in WWI, the Tank is a perennially stylish choice and. oneof the best gold watches on the market.
This large manual-winding model is cased in rose gold and features a beaded crown set with a sapphire cabochon, a silvered beaded dial, blued-steel sword-shaped hands and a brown alligator strap. Talk about old-school cool.
Retail Price: AU$18,500
Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222

A recreation of the famous 222 luxury sports watch, the grandfather of the ever-popular Overseas, the Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222 has been one of the hottest watch releases of 2022. It’s remarkably faithful to the 70s original – right down to that awesome integrated bracelet and its absurdly heavy weight on the wrist – but with a few key differences.
The main difference is that unlike the original, the new 222 has a sapphire caseback, which lets you admire its Calibre 2455/2 movement and its ‘222’ engraved rotor. This thing is absolute grail material and is just what a gold watch should be: eye-catching, a bit outrageous, and extremely luxurious.
Retail Price: AU$102,000
Grand Seiko Evolution 9 ‘Tree Rings’

Grand Seiko is one of the most dressy and conservative luxury watchmakers on the planet, but surprisingly, they don’t make too many watches in gold. When they do, though, they’re real stunners, like this model which has been dubbed the ‘Tree Rings’ thanks to its evocative, textured brown dial, which pairs wonderfully with its warm rose gold case.
It’s powered by one of the brand’s desirable Spring Drive movements – a Seiko invention and something exclusive to the brand which combines all the accuracy of a quartz watch with the class and convenience of a traditional automatic mechanical movement. The result? A 5-day power reserve and impeccable accuracy.
Retail Price: AU$73,000
Chopard Alpine Eagle

Another luxury sports watch that absolutely shines in gold, the Chopard Alpine Eagle is one of the most underrated and luxurious gold watches a gentleman can strap to his wrist.
Not only does its integrated bracelet resemble a swathe of gold bullion dripping down your wrist, but the super-cool dial – modelled after an eagle’s iris – is mesmerising to look at. Crafted in ethical 18-carat rose gold, it beats to the rhythm of a chronometer-certified movement.
Retail Price: AU$59,000
A. Lange & Söhne Triple Split

A. Lange & Söhne is a highly prestigious firm that has a long history of producing some of the most refined, complicated and stylish timepieces in horological history. They’re also known for producing virtually all their models in precious metals – which usually means gold.
The Triple Split is the world’s first mechanical split-seconds chronograph that allows for multi-hour comparative time measurements – that is, the Triple Split can compare the times of two opponents in a race, time consecutively starting events or add the times of multi-hour events.
Retail Price: AU$238,575
OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Moonshine Gold

Speaking of cool gold chronographs, this new rendition of the famous OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch is an absolute killer. It’s crafted from OMEGA’s proprietary Moonshine Gold: an 18ct yellow gold alloy that has a distinctively paler hue than traditional 18ct yellow gold, and is much more resistant to the fading of colour and lustre over time.
Combine that lovely gold with that green PVD dial and bezel, and you’ve got a truly luxurious combination on your hands. Of course, green and gold are Australia’s signature sporting colours, so this new ‘Speedy’ represents perhaps the pinnacle of horological perfection for any patriotic Aussie.
Retail Price: AU$57,925
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold Double Balance Wheel Openworked

Let’s finish off this list by totally blinging out. Audemars Piguet makes dozens of different variants of their iconic Royal Oak but this very verbose, very gold model is easily one of their most decadent.
If the hammered frosted 18ct gold case, matching integrated bracelet and skeletonised movement weren’t enough for you, this AP also has a bezel set with a rainbow of baguette-cut multicoloured gemstones. Needless to say, this is one of the more expensive gold watches you can buy…
Retail Price: AU$1,000,000

Will those new sneakers fit your wardrobe? Which jeans are best for your body type? What workout brands are dominating the athleisure trend? Google’s new image search has the answers.
The search engine’s new tool, called “Style Ideas”, is designed to help shoppers see how potential purchases look in real-world situations. Think of it as a kind of virtual way to try before you buy.
When a user searches an item – a Zara jacket, let’s say – Google returns images of people sporting that exact product so you can see what it looks like in a more practical setting. The search engine displays these “inspirational lifestyle images and outfits that showcase how the product can be worn in real life” in a familiar, Pinterest-inspired grid.
Style Ideas also offers an expanded carousel for “similar items” while you’re searching, helping shoppers find other products that may suit their style or budget better. Google hopes the new features will help fashion-conscious users get sartorial inspiration and discover bargain alternatives that don’t sacrifice style.
Of course, they’re also hoping that expanded shopping options will help the company compete with other major online retailers, but we won’t begrudge them that as long as they dish out genuinely useful style guidance. Then again, we know where to find plenty of that…

‘Sarah Connor?’
‘…Yes?’
‘Thanks for shopping with us. Here’s your made-to-measure suit. Please visit your robotic tailor again soon.’
And that’s how the future of men’s suiting could manifest itself in a not-too-distant future. Whilst some argue that technology should never impede on an age-old tradition, there are pockets of people who tend to throw caution at the wind in pursuit of innovation and efficiency. Welcome to the Hugo Boss Technical Centre.
The German label has taken to the often conservative men’s fashion market with a revolutionary way of crafting their latest range of made-to-measure suits which all but eliminates the human element. You read right, precision engineered German robots programmed to produce made-to-measure suits. This radical concept was first introduced by Hugo Boss back in 2011 at the label’s Frankfurt and Zurich flagships stores and has since garnered global praise and attention amongst the modern discerning gent.
Designed to reflect the high calibre of Savile Row suiting standards, the robotic range of made-to-measure garments are personalisable whilst retaining the polished fit and finish of premium fabrics. The price for minimal human intervention doesn’t come cheap though with partially handcrafted suits starting from €1,700.
Even though that price tag puts it in the region of today’s man-made-to-measure suits, Hugo Boss shows no signs of slowing down as they continue to invest in their ‘technical centre’. The sort of technology this investment buys? The latest in laser and sewing robotics which can replicate the intricacies in every stage of handcrafted tailoring. And yes, they also come programmed with the knowledge of seamstresses in order to guarantee precise manufacturing without compromising on individuality.
As an example, one only needs to look at the gimp buttonhole of a Boss robotic made-to-measure suit. It’s been designed to appear handmade, but is actually created via a computer. Suits comprise of 180 individual pieces of fabric which have been cut by laser to allow patterns like pinstripe and Prince-of-Wales check to appear seamless when completed. The only human-made part of the suit is the lining which is still crafted by hand to ensure optimum levels of comfort.
Of course just like the other stages of Hugo Boss’ robotic-made suits, it should only be a matter of time before the Boss engineers have figured out a way to do that via a robot too.

Some dreams are blatantly unachievable. You will never get a six-pack on an ice cream diet or earn a PhD in quantum physics without cracking a book.
You fantasise about stepping off a plane looking as handsome as you did getting onto it, yet time and time again, you arrive at baggage claim feeling like the monster from a Stephen King movie.
The good news? It doesn’t have to be that way. This dream is actually achievable, and not just for genetically blessed celebrities getting papped in the airport.
If you’re ready to learn how to look good after a long flight, your crash course awaits below. Don’t let jet lag and recycled air win.
Create An In-Flight Skincare Regime
You’ve looked in your girlfriend’s bathroom and scoffed. Who could possibly need so many products? A person on a long-haul flight, that’s who. Airplanes are grimy and deeply dehydrating, neither of which are conducive to post-travel handsomeness. The right batch of products can do wonders for rehabbing your starved skin during and after a flight.
Consider packing a face wash or cleansing wipes to start with a clean canvas. Most importantly, moisturise regularly – slather on a layer of your preferred moisturiser (or even a mask if gender norms aren’t your jam) and repeat as often as necessary to keep your skin supple. Bring a lip balm to give your lips the same TLC. If you want to get more complicated, you could throw in a hand cream or an eye cream.
Hydrate
Hydrating topically is only half the battle. If you really want to fight dry eyes and skin in the ultra-low humidity environment of an aircraft, you have to start from the inside. Drink water. A lot of it. All the water you can handle. Not only will it keep your face looking fresh, it will also help lessen the effects of jet lag. You may also want to avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can increase dehydration.
Snooze
Fatigue looks good on no one. Sleep is essential for both your skin and your overall health, so do your best to get your snooze on (especially if it’s a red eye flight). If you struggle to sleep on planes, bring helpful accessories like ear plugs, noise-canceling headphones, an eye mask, and melatonin.
Pack Pick-Me-Ups In Your Carry-On
After your flight but before you’ve faced the real world, perform a quick pick-me-up. Brush your teeth or use mouthwash. Rinse the flight grime off your face. Spruce up your hair with a shot of dry shampoo or whatever sculpting product you prefer. Apply a last round of moisturiser and lip balm – or even a dash of male cosmetics if you’re into that type of thing.
Kick Back (And Up)
When you’ve arrived home or checked into your hotel, immediately kick back (and by “back” we mean “up”) and relax. Lay on your back with your feet elevated against a wall, headboard, or piece of furniture for 5-10 minutes. This will help reduce the swelling in your legs and ankles caused by the inactivity, pressure, and dehydration during a flight.
Stick To A Sleep Schedule
Getting adequate sleep (at the right hours) is key to recovering from a long-haul flight. Resist the urge to nap during broad daylight. Make yourself stay awake until a normal bedtime in your destination’s time zone, and don’t let yourself sleep in past a reasonable hour the next day. You may feel a little sluggish at first, but it will fast-track the process to resetting your internal clock and alleviating jet lag.
Breathe Deep
Say it with us one more time: cabin air is dry and dehydrating. Those lower oxygen levels play a major role in the fatigue you feel after a flight, so to wake up your brain and body, you need to give it an oxygen injection. Take a walk outside, even if it’s just a short jaunt around the block, to feel revived and energised.

Not long ago, we were introduced to Black Insomnia, the world’s strongest coffee. Before that, we met one of the world’s most colourfully named coffees. Now we’re meeting something even more unusual: the world’s first clear coffee.
CLR CFF packs all the qualities you love in your ultra-dark roast, minus any of the teeth-staining trouble. Though it looks like water, the taste is strong – reportedly like a ‘potent cold brew’ – and a single bottle should last all day. It can be sipped on its own or mixed into cocktails, and your pearly whites will still be pearly.
Two brothers came up with the idea for transparent coffee when their chompers started showing the signs of caffeine addiction.
“We are heavy coffee drinkers. Like many other people we struggled with the teeth stains caused by it. There was nothing on the market that would suit our needs so we decided to create our own recipe,” David Nagy told the The Evening Standard. “Because of the hectic lifestyle we lead we wanted to make a refreshing ready-to-drink coffee which provides the boost but is low in calories.”
The production process is a closely guarded secret. David and his brother Adam admit they use freshly roasted Arabica beans and a chemical-free physical process, and say it took three months of experimentation to nail the formula (which has no preservatives, stabilisers, or sweeteners).
At £5.99 for two 200-ml bottles, CLR CFF won’t be your cheapest habit, but at least it’ll save you the cost of a teeth whitening treatment at the dentist.

If we’ve learned nothing else from Salt Bae, we’ve learned this: the whole world loves a man who can cook.
You don’t need his meme-worthy seasoning skills to win hearts and tempt tastebuds, but every guy should have a basic understanding of how to manoeuver in a kitchen without embarrassing himself.
Take the first steps towards chef status (and maybe internet stardom, too) by learning the rookie cooking mistakes it’s time to stop making.
Not Reading The Full Recipe
Enthusiasm is great in the kitchen, but not at the expense of accuracy. Though your inner overachiever wants to dive right in and start sautéing, tell him to cool it until you’ve had a chance to read the entire recipe from start to finish. You don’t want to make it halfway through only to realise you’re missing an essential ingredient or piece of equipment.
Missing Your Mise
Mise en place is a French culinary term that refers to putting everything in its place. Chefs use it to describe their pre-cooking setup – the art of organisation and preparation that doesn’t just look great in Instagram photos, but also makes you a more efficient cook. Streamline the process by having all your ingredients prepped and portioned, and all necessary equipment laid out, before the real cooking begins. You’ll never accidentally salt twice or let something burn on the stove while you’re searching for the next ingredient.
Overcrowding The Pan
Think about how much you hate public transportation during rush hour. Don’t subject your food to the same crowded treatment. When you squeeze too much into a pan, the temperature is lower, there’s too much moisture, and you’ll wind up with uneven cooking. Invest in a larger pan, cook with two at once, or work in batches (especially if you’re cooking meat).
Using The Wrong Knife
Anthony Bourdain is adamant that knife sets are a waste of money, and we’re in no position to argue, but we will point out that so many different options exist for a reason. After all, every tool in your toolbox isn’t suited for every job, is it? Give yourself a crash course education in which knives are meant for which tasks, and edit your collection accordingly. There’s no reason to own all the knives, but there’s no reason not to own the ones you’ll actually use.
Adding Ingredients To A Cold Pan
In the kitchen, as in the bedroom, going in cold is a bad idea. You need to warm things up before diving in. There are a few exceptions to the rule, but on the whole, ingredients should never touch a cold pan. A hot pan is key to preventing food from sticking and to providing a nice sear, so get the stove lit before any oil or food gets involved.
Cooking Meat Straight From The Fridge
That warming up thing? It applies to meat and fish, too. Don’t cook with protein fresh from the fridge. Letting it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before cooking allows a piece of meat to cook more evenly. The icky alternative is a slab of protein that’s overcooked on the outside and undercooked, or raw, at the centre. We appreciate rare meat as much as the next guy, but that’s not the way to do it.
Forgetting To Sample
Not only are you allowed to sample your work as you go, you should taste it. An improperly seasoned dish will end up unbalanced – either tasteless and dull, or totally overpowering. The only way to know if you’re on the right track is to help yourself to a bite. And then another. And another. Don’t be afraid to taste again and again, lest you drop something unpalatable in front of important dinner guests.

Imagine an island paradise and you picture Tahiti.
The largest of French Polynesia’s 118 islands and atolls, Tahiti is the stuff of guidebook dreams: lush jungles, sparkling lagoons, jagged volcanic peaks, powder-soft sand, technicolor reefs, 5-star resorts, laid-back locals, world-class surfing, and all the rejuvenating ocean breeze your harried soul can handle.
Yet despite its considerable charms, travellers often pass over the island in favour of its flashier neighbour, Bora Bora, a favourite for celebrities and honeymooners hankering for luxe overwater bungalow life.
Those who buck the trend and opt for Tahiti holidays experience a different kind of magic: a not-so hidden gem that is somehow still sort of hidden.
Ready to start packing and planning? Here’s the one thing you have to do on your Tahiti holiday if…
You Want An Adventure
Hit the trails. Tahiti is more than beachy island life. Inland, its rugged landscape of mountains, valleys, and waterfalls beckons to explored. 4WD tours ferry visitors through the majestic Papenoo Valley, with stops at viewpoints, swimming holes, archeological sites, and Lake Vaihiria. Those who prefer to explore on foot can hike the Fautaua Valley trail or hire a guide to lead them through the mysterious Hitiaa lava tubes. Canyoneering, horseback riding, and quad bike tours are also available.
You’re Into Culture
Attend Heiva I Tahiti. Music and dance are deeply entwined with life on the island. Traditional Tahitian dance can be experienced at many schools in the capital of Papeete or hotel dinner shows, but the best way to immerse yourself in this vibrant culture is Heiva I Tahiti. The annual festival of traditional Polynesian culture takes place for a week each July and includes music, dancing, singing, and sports. Think of it as Tahiti’s answer to Rio’s Carnival or Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
You’re A Beach Bum
Hang ten. Surfing in Tahiti isn’t just good – it’s some of the best (and most treacherous) in the world. The island offers surf schools for beginners, but Tahiti is really an expert’s playground. The ultimate place to test your mettle is Teahupoʻo, a break so vicious it’s often called “the most dangerous wave in the world.” The swells often hit 2 to 3 m (6.6 to 9.8 ft), and sometimes stretch up to 7 m (23 ft), and are the site of the annual Billabong Pro Tahiti surf competition.
You Want To Live Like A Local
Get a tattoo. Tattooing has been practised in the Polynesian islands for centuries. In fact, the indigenous languages of the islands are the origin of the English word “tattoo.” Tattoos carried deep significance to ancient Polynesian peoples, often delineating social status, marking rites of passage, and honouring heroic acts. The art form was forced into decline when Western missionaries landed in the islands in the 19th century, but Polynesian tattoo artists reclaimed their status in the 20th century and today maintain their vital link to their culture’s history.
You Live For Luxury
Book at The Brando. If it was good enough for Marlon, it’s damn sure good enough for you. The Hollywood legend bought Tetiaroa, once a favoured retreat for Tahitian royalty, after falling in love with it while working on Mutiny on the Bounty in 1960. It’s now home to a fancy-pants resort of eco-friendly villas accessible only by private plane. Technically it’s not on the island of Tahiti itself, but we’ll give it a pass for overwhelming wow factor.
You’re A Foodie
Try poisson cru. Poisson cru (literally, “raw fish”) is the dish of the French Polynesian islands. Similar to Latin ceviche, it consists of raw fish marinated in citrus juice and coconut milk, then mixed with diced vegetables. Tahiti has also succumbed to the food truck craze. Here they are known as roulottes and serve up everything from Chinese cuisine to French fare. You’ll find them lining the docks and luring locals in Papeete.
You’re A Sightseer
Hit the exhibits. Tahiti is home to several museums for visitors who prefer traditional tourist pastimes. The Musée de Tahiti et des Îles is divided into four sections – geography and natural history, pre-European culture, the European era, outdoor exhibits – and is an ideal spot to educate yourself on Polynesian artifacts and cultural practices. Other options are the Robert Wan Pearl Museum, the Paul Gauguin Museum, and Le Lagoonarium.
You Want A Souvenir
Explore Le Marche. Papeete’s bustling local marketplace is in many ways the heart of the city. The ground floor is occupied by vendors hawking produce, scented soaps, monoi oil, baked goods, traditional costumes, fresh fish, flowers, and shell necklaces. Upstairs is dedicated to artisans who sell handicrafts like quilts, carvings, and woven baskets. If you’re willing to shell out, Tahiti’s most coveted souvenir is a unique and rare black pearl.
You’re Into History Lessons
Visit Point Venus. When James Cook arrived in Tahiti in 1769 to conduct astronomical observations, he promptly founded Fort Venus. The crew of the infamous Bounty also landed here in 1788, as did the first members of the London Missionary Society, who arrived in 1797. Today Point Venus is home to a picturesque Victorian-era lighthouse (the only one on the island) and a picnic-ready park with spectacular coastal views. The nearby beach is popular with low-key surfers who aren’t looking to defy death on Teahupoʻo.
