Breaking Bad Stars Aaron Paul And Bryan Cranston Are Closer Than Jesse & Walt In Real Life
Breaking Bad Stars Aaron Paul And Bryan Cranston Are Closer Than Jesse & Walt In Real Life

Fans of Breaking Bad will know that Walter White and Jesse Pinkman had a tumultuous relationship, to say the least.

But from Season 1 all the way through to Season 5, there was undeniable chemistry (pun intended) between the actors who played Walt and Jesse, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul.

And while the two are extremely excited to be reprising their respective roles in the latest season of Better Call Saul – a prequel series to Breaking Bad, starring Bob Odenkirk – they’ve also recently cemented themselves as true, close friends in real life.

Paul and his wife, actress Lauren Parsekian, have just had their second child together, a boy named Ryden and during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, – which you can watch below – Paul revealed he asked Cranston to be Ryden’s godfather.

“I asked Bryan on his birthday if he would be our baby’s godfather. Yeah.”

Paul then joked that Cranston said “no” but quickly clarified he, of course, said yes,

“[Cranston] was very excited; very honoured. I love the man to death. You know, he’s one of my best friend’s in the world and, um, so yeah, it was a no-brainer.”

It’s not super surprising that Paul offered Cranston the prestigious godfather title as the two have been close since Breaking Bad. The two got tattoos together on the last day of filming Breaking Bad and they also co-founded and own a mezcal company together, called Dos Hombres.

Nonetheless, it’s incredibly sweet that Cranston is now the godfather of Paul’s son and our Breaking Bad hearts are full.

Jonah Hill Doesn’t Give A Flying F*ck About Your Style Rules
Jonah Hill Doesn’t Give A Flying F*ck About Your Style Rules

Jonah Hill’s ongoing glow-up? You love to see it.

The 38-year-old comedian and actor is easily one of the most fashion-forward male celebrities on the planet right now, working with big-name brands like PalaceMarni and Adidas on campaigns, collaborations and exclusive collections respectively.

He’s developed quite a unique individual style: summery, surfy, very Californian. He’s not afraid to experiment with bold prints or bright colours – particularly the latter, as his latest outfit shows.

Earlier this week, Hill shared a selfie on Instagram of some very lairy orange pants and mules, which a day later, he paired with an orange Western shirt and dark blue Harrington jacket.

It’s an awesome outfit… But it’s also one that raises a middle finger to one of fashion’s most time-honoured, essential rules or concepts: the colour wheel. And it does it in style.

A simplified colour wheel that also shows the split between cool and warm colours. Image: Canva

Essentially, the idea goes that you shouldn’t wear colours that are opposite one another on the colour wheel, as they clash too much. For example, purple doesn’t work well with yellow. Similarly, orange typically doesn’t work well with blue, especially dark blues like Jonah’s jacket.

Typically this is gospel when it comes to style, particularly men’s style – but in this instance, we think it works really well. Then, factor in Jonah’s amazing tan and super 90s bleached hair, and you’ve got a seriously stylish gent right there.

Hill’s latest project? He’s been cast as Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia in an upcoming biopic about the legendary rock band for AppleTV+. Hill’s also producing the biopic and has even got Martin Scorsese to direct. Hill famously worked with Scorsese on The Wolf of Wall Street.

Best Bleached Hairstyles For Men 2022
Best Bleached Hairstyles For Men 2022

While you may think platinum or bleached hair is reserved for the fairer sex, some famous male faces have rocked it during their ever-changing hairstyle histories. Think Brad Pitt’s coveted surfer mane, Adam Levine’s golden do, Ryan Gosling’s short bleached hairstyle and all manner of other celebrities including Jared Leto and Justin Bieber, whose undercut do was something many guys should attempt to imitate.

But bleaching takes guts. Once the peroxide is on, shaving your head or cutting the bleached hair off is really the only way to return au naturel. And if you like your newfound fun as a platinum blonde? Terms such as ‘brassy’ and ‘roots’ could take you down – hard and fast.

To get you bleach-ready this season, we’ve curated several ice-cool ways to rock bleached hair, and included some easy tips and tricks to help you decide if you’re up for the challenge.

Simple Things To Consider

Skin Tone

Super fair skin tones look washed out with bleached hair and blonder hair will highlight things like acne and scars so if you’re pale or have facial blemishes that you’re insecure about, don’t bleach.

Hair Density

Bleach coats the hair follicle which subsequently makes it feel thicker, but if you’re something who has hair that is thinning out, bleach increases the chances of breakage and could lead to some hair falling out. Balding or trying to grow your hair out? No bleach, please.

Hair Colour

Dark brown or black will more likely need more than one bleach process, and you put yourself at greater risk of your hair turning orange or brassy instead of platinum. Natural blonds will naturally have an easier time with the bleach. Sorry guys who are rocking the afro.

Anti-Bleach Areas

You bleach hair, not your eyebrows or beard. Going bleached means going bold so there’s no need to conceal the fact that your hair is not natural, obvs. The contrast hair-to-brow colour will give an exotic edge too and add some light and shade to your face.

Seek Professionals

Once decided, hunt down a hair bleaching professional and research salons that do blond hair well (including blond hair for men). Not only will a hair colourist apply, tone and style bleached hair well, but the pros can also give guidance for maintaining your new blond locks.

Basic Blond Tools

Purple shampoo counteracts the hair’s ability to go orange or brassy so use in moderation with a normal men’s shampoo. Use a hair treatment conditioner after washing too, to replenish the moisture zapped out by the bleach – to reduce the risk of the hair looking fuzz and fried.

All Bleached Out

Not happy with the platinum look? Or seeking a change? A buzzcut is pretty much the only way to get rid of your newly bleached hair. We don’t recommend growing it out, sir ombré. So be certain you’re up for the distinct bleached look. Once it’s on, your natural hair colour is done for.

Final Word

Bleached hair is hard work. It’s hard to get right, and once you do have that perfect platinum shade, you’ll need to invest time in styling it – and some money in products – maintaining the white tone and moisturised health of the hair.

But – like most things that are hard to attain and uncommon (riches and abs) – you’ll stand out like a hair god. Platinum is a high-value metal in the jewellery market and now your hair can be the same.

Above all else? Seek professional help. There’s absolutely no shame in that.

Expert Opinion – Sam Overton

“Bleached hair on a dude? It’s a tough one to rock and you not only need to be confident to pull it off, you need to go to a good hairdresser! When bleaching your hair, the tone is so important. It should complement skin tone and eye colour, or be the total opposite for a  real statement.

Personally, I think this colour works best for short hair. Bleach adds texture to the hair and being shorter, it’s easy to style. Lastly, you need a good shampoo, conditioner and to apply a treatment at least once a week. When you bleach hair, you strip all the colour and hair can become dry. Replacing the lipid content in your hair is vital and reapplying moisture.

“This is important so not to damage your hair. Also, when getting to roots done again go to a good hairdresser. If the colour gets overlapped, you’ll end up with bland and uneven colour.”

What does bleaching do to your hair?

Bleach makes your hair light by breaking into your hair shafts and reacting with pigment molecules. In doing so, it also destroys the natural fatty acids of your hair, which may result to dryness and brittleness.

Will bleaching cause hair loss?

Not directly, but bleaching does make hair loss more likely to happen. If your hair is damaged due to bleaching, normal activities like brushing and sleeping will only make it worse.

How often should I use purple shampoo?

Purple shampoos will make your bleached hair looking bright, but they should not replace your regular shampoo. Using them once or twice a week should be enough.

Best French Crop Haircuts for Men
Best French Crop Haircuts for Men

Men who rock short hair may think they only have a limited number of options available to them when it comes to styling options. But in reality, the opposite couldn’t be more true. Short haircuts can encompass everything from a buzz cut to an Ivy League to a crew cut and, to an extent, the undercut. But there is one short hairstyle that is one of the more versatile options, suits practically everyone no matter their face shape or hair type, and is incredibly easy to achieve: the French crop.

Defined by its slight contrast in length between the hair on top and the hair on the sides and back of the head, coupled with a blunt cut fringe, the French crop is a wonderfully stylish haircut that can be styled in myriad ways. It is a very low maintenance hairstyle and one that can be worn no matter the hair type, whether it be curly, straight, wavy or even afro.

How To Ask Your Barber For A French Crop

Any good barber worth their salt should know how to cut a French crop if you ask him or her. But if you have a specific style or look in mind, the best thing to do is take a picture along to show them. You can also drop some barber jargon on them to not only impress them, but give them a clearer idea of the exact style you’re after.

You’ll first want to ask for a short back and sides. However, the length here is entirely down to personal preference. You can incorporate a fade if you wish, such as a low fade or a taper fade, or go a little more drastic and ask for an undercut. Alternatively, you could go down a more buzz cut or crew cut route and rock one length all around, such as a number 3 on the clippers.

In our opinion, a French crop looks particularly effective when it has plenty of texture to it, so if your hair is naturally quite thick, you’ll want to ask your barber to point cut it. Point cutting doesn’t serve to remove length, but rather to cause graduations into the ends, thereby creating texture and movement. If the textured hair camp isn’t for you, then you’ll likely fall into the other alternative, which is to have it blunt cut. A blunt cut refers to when the hair is the same length all the way around, or as is the case of the French crop, the same length all over on top of the head.

How To Style

The amount of styling required will be determined by the way you have it cut and the length to which you have it cut. However, as a general rule, you’ll want to apply some styling products to towel-dried hair. For a messy, ‘just got out of bed’ look, you’ll want to use a styling paste or clay and for a high-shine slicked-back look, pomade or wax will be your best friend.

Because, in general, you won’t have much length to play with, you shouldn’t need the assistance of a hairdryer to style your French crop – this isn’t a pompadour, after all – but you may need to call upon one if you opt for a longer variation (which we talk about more below).

Best French Crops For Men

So, now you know how to ask for a French crop and how to style one, allow us to bring you some extra inspiration with a selection of some of the best examples.

1. Classic

It’s always good to start with the original. The classic French crop is one that you’ve probably already rocked at some point in your life, you just didn’t know it. Exhibiting just a subtle contrast between the hair on top of the head and the hair on the sides and back, the classic French crop is one of the most low maintenance hairstyles out there, save for the buzz cut. The length of the hair is entirely at your discretion, and it can be styled with either a point cut fringe or a blunt cut fringe.

2. Long French crop

The long French crop simply sees the hair on top of the head left to grow to a longer length than traditionally expected. You’ll still want to keep the hair on the sides and back of the head kept relatively short – whether you go for something like an undercut is up to you – and this could mean regular visits to the barber.

Do so, however, and you’ll be rewarded with a highly versatile look since the longer hair on top will allow you to play around with incorporating other hairstyles such as side-parts and quiffs for some seriously stylish results.

3. French Crop Fade

We’ve already mentioned it a few times, but the French crop works in perfect harmony with a fade. No matter the length and positioning of the fade, whether it be a low fade, mid fade, high fade or a more foolproof taper fade, combining longer hair with much shorter hair on the sides of the head is a surefire way to a stylish look.

This not only makes for an even more low maintenance haircut, but by removing extra weight and length from the sides and back of the head, you naturally give more focus to the top of the head. This means you can style it as much or as little as you want, so even a blunt cut French crop fade with straight fringe and no styling product can look as good as a slightly longer version with styling product worked through it.

4. Disconnected French Crop

The disconnected French crop clearly separates the top of the head from the sides. No fade or blending of hair here, just a straight cut – just as a way of separating them, the undercut could introduce a slight fade, as opposed to drastic contrast. In a similar vein to the French crop with fade, employing a disconnected look puts the focus solely on the top of the head.

The length on top is entirely down to personal preference, with practically all options available to you. This French crop can even work for guys with curly or wavy hair, with the natural curls providing volume and texture for a head-turning look. It’s also an option that can work particularly well for black men with afro hair.

5. Short French Crop

The short French crop haircut doesn’t differ too much from the classic, however, the sides and back of the head are cut to a shorter length, and the hair on top is often cut a little shorter too. The short French crop is a natural pairing for the high and tight fade, leaving a small, short section of hair on top of head that requires little to no styling whatsoever.

For us, the short French crop haircut benefits greatly from having some texture cut into it if your hair is particularly thick. But if yours is naturally very straight, blunt cutting the fringe will give you a simple and stylish look that can work incredibly well in formal situations.

6. French Crop Undercut

Ok we know, we said a little earlier that the disconnected French crop was essentially the same as the French crop undercut, but there is a little bit to separate the two. The undercut section of this hairstyle can introduce a fade if you wish, or the defining line between the longer hair and the short hair on the sides and back of the head can occur at various points on the head. The disconnected French crop, however, will usually see the contrasting line around the temple of the head.

An undercut plays nicely with hair that can be styled, particularly if it can look messy. In this case, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of texture to the long hair on top of the head and style is with a matte effect product. Conversely, with that long hair on top, and using a pomade or wax, you can slick it back, allowing you to seamlessly switch between boardroom and bar.

7. Curly French Crop

We made a passing mention to it earlier, but yes, men with curly hair can also reap the benefits of the French crop. Because of the natural volume and texture afforded by curls, guys who wish to achieve a curly French crop will do well to have the sides and back cut as short as possible, or at least so that the curls are removed.

You don’t want to have a blunt cut fringe if you have curly hair, it just won’t look good. Instead, just ask your barber to make sure it’s kept neat and tidy – this may need some point cutting to remove some of the ends – so that the curly hair can be styled in an effortless way that will leave you looking sleek and sophisticated.

8. French Crop With Comb Over

Although the French crop is usually defined by the way the fringe is cut, it can also be paired with something like a comb-over on those days you need to look slightly more professional. However, in order to achieve an effective comb-over, you will need some good length on top of the head. You can once again choose to have the sides and back of the head cut to a shorter length, or in the case of the comb-over hairstyle, a similar length all over will work.

Combining a comb over with your French crop is also one of the few variations that can benefit from the use of a hairdryer, as it will allow you to style the hair over to one side of your head much easier, while also helping to lock it in place. Once dry, you’ll probably want to add some styling product to ensure it stays there all day long – this variation looks particularly great with a high shine finish – and adding a light spritz of hairspray will ensure a hair never falls out of place.

9. French Crop For Receding Hairline

It’s an unfortunate fact of life that some men will suffer from a receding hairline. Guys who experience this may feel like they have little to no options when it comes to finding a stylish hairstyle to help take attention away from it, but the French crop is a perfect remedy. Because it’s styled forward, the French crop can often serve to cover up the receding hairline to a point where you wouldn’t even realise.

For greater effect, try experimenting with a high fade, a high and tight fade or even a skin fade on the sides and back of the head to help create the illusion that you prefer the ‘no hair’ look. Then, with the rest of your hair being grown as long as possible, enlist the aid of a hairdryer to style it forwards, work some styling product into it and everyone you meet will be none the wiser.

10. Textured French Crop

The textured French crop is incredibly similar to some of the other hairstyles we’ve already listed, but takes the notion of texture and dials it up a notch. This is a variation that benefits greatly from naturally thick hair, so unfortunately for men with thin hair, you may need to look elsewhere.

However, for those with thick hair, have your barber work their magic with the scissors to not necessarily remove length, but just a little bit of weight throughout, so that you’re left with enough texture that doesn’t even need styling product to look good.

Australian ‘Hero’ Fined After Warning Motorists Of Hidden Speed Cameras
Australian ‘Hero’ Fined After Warning Motorists Of Hidden Speed Cameras

Driving in Australia is often quite an expensive exercise. Rego, green slips, tolls, Luxury Car Tax… It feels like the government’s always hitting you up for something – never mind how much fuel prices have risen lately.

But nothing stings quite as bad as getting a speeding ticket. According to Budget Direct, Australia has the world’s 17th highest fine: $2,530 ($1,847 USD), which you’ll cop for going 45 km/h over the limit in New South Wales. That’s less than the top fine in the United States, but much more than the top fine in Germany and New Zealand, for example.

NSW easily has the most expensive speeding fines in the country, as well as the country’s biggest fleet of speed camera operators. But there’s one young Aussie legend who’s trying to save his fellow motorists from getting speeding tickets – and has become a sort of modern-day Jesus in the process.

17-year-old Beau Jackson has made it his mission to alert motorists of sneaky hidden speed cameras, regularly parking his motorbike with a big sign warning ‘Speed Camera Ahead’ just ahead of unmarked speed camera operators – which is totally legal, if a bit cheeky.

@scamerasloveme Found one finally 🤣 #nsw #government #revenue #speedcamera #australia #fyp ♬ original sound – Speed Cameras Love Me

The Central Coast native, who documents his speed camera escapades on TikTok under the highly appropriate name ‘Speed Cameras Love Me’ (and has earned himself >35k followers for his efforts) is well-loved by locals. But suspiciously, just after Beau was the focus of an A Current Affair interview, he got handed a $250 fine for littering.

“I rang them and they said my sign and some drink cans were on the side of the road,” he told ACA in a follow-up interview, “but I pack up my sign and rubbish and take it home. I still have my sign, so I certainly didn’t leave it on the side of the road.”

“I rang and asked for proof of the rubbish and they said there was no photo… Clearly someone is upset with what I am doing, because I’m costing them revenue.”

We reckon he’s a motoring Jesus, copping fines for our sins! Beau intends to appeal his fine in court. Good luck mate – you’re doing the Lord’s work.

All The Films & Shows Netflix Has Cancelled This Year
All The Films & Shows Netflix Has Cancelled This Year

After recently announcing that for the first time in ten years they’d lost subscribers, Netflix could potentially lose its reign as the ‘best streaming platform’. This is because after the announcement, Netflix’s share price plummeted.

Plus, the streaming giant has projected they’ll lose another two million subscribers during the current quarter (April 2022 to June 2022); a projection that’ll most likely prove true as many are thinking of unsubscribing due to the possibility of Netflix globally introducing strict anti-password-sharing measures as well as commercials.

In what can be seen as an attempt to save some dollars after a staggering loss, Netflix has, according to The Wrap, fired Phil Rynda – who was essentially head of Original Animation at Netflix – as well as several of his staff members.

Not only this, Netflix has cancelled some upcoming original films and TV series that were in the middle of production as well as established Netflix Originals with a season or two already on the platform. Read on to see everything Netflix has cancelled this year.

Another Life

Set in the future, Another Life followed Niko Breckenridge and her crew as they embark on a dangerous mission in space to investigate a mysterious alien artifact. Another Life ran for two seasons before getting cancelled in February of this year. And while Netflix didn’t provide an explanation for Another Life’s cancellation, it’s most likely because the series received average reviews.

Archive 81

Archive 81 centred around Dan Turner, an archivist who was hired to restore damaged videotapes from 1994. As he works, Turner discovers the tapes are that of a filmmaker and document her investigation into a dangerous cult, and ultimately, Turner becomes fascinated… Archive 81 had one season that went to number one on Netflix US upon its release and received favourable reviews, and yet Netflix cancelled it in March of this year.

The Baby-Sitters Club

Based on the book series of the same name, The Baby-Sitters Club had two seasons that featured a modern retelling of the books – a young group of girls who start a babysitting service. The series was cancelled by Netflix in March this year, most likely due to low viewership in the US.

Bone

In 2019, Netflix confirmed it was adapting Jeff Smith’s beloved comic series Bone into either an animated film or series. There was no update on the project until this month when Netflix announced it has been cancelled.

Bright 2

Bright, the popular Netflix film starring Will Smith as a detective who pairs up with an Orc to find a magic wand, was supposed to be getting a sequel. However, Bright 2 has now been cancelled. Some reports suggest this is because of Smith’s infamous Oscars incident but it could also be a nice quick way for Netflix to save a few bucks.

Cooking With Paris

I’m going to be brutally honest here: I’m not surprised that Netflix cancelled Cooking With Paris. The series that followed Paris Hilton ‘cooking’, only went for one season and while it did appear in Australia’s Top Ten TV Shows during its debut on Netflix AU, viewership plummeted shortly after and reviews were rather negative.

Diablero

While Money Heist and Squid Game proved that foreign series can be well received by Western countries, unfortunately, the Mexican series, Diablero couldn’t attain the same kind of success that the other two series did. Diablero ran for two seasons and followed an unlikely trio joining forces to battle evil; it was cancelled by Netflix in March.

Fast & Loose

Another Netflix Original film that was supposed to star Will Smith, Fast & Loose has also been cancelled. The film would’ve followed Smith’s character waking up with memory loss and not being able to distinguish whether he was a crime kingpin or an undercover CIA agent. Again, Fast & Loose may have been cancelled because of Smith’s behaviour at the Oscars but Netflix hasn’t given an official explanation.

Gentefied

Following three Latino cousins as they try to save their grandfather’s taco shop from gentrification for two seasons, Gentefied was cancelled by Netflix in January. Again, no reasoning was given for the cancellation of this series; which received positive reviews and managed to crack the Top Ten TV shows on Netflix US upon its release.

On The Verge

On The Verge followed four female friends in their late 40s, who rather than having mid-life crises, decide to live life to the fullest. The series ran for one season before Netflix cancelled it this month.

Toil & Trouble

And finally, Toil & Trouble – an upcoming animated series from Lauren Faust, known for her work on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and The Iron Giant, which was mid-way through production – has now been cancelled. The show would’ve followed a witch named Smudge and her cat, Jinx.

Tourist Faces Deportation From Bali After Dancing Naked On Sacred Mountain
Tourist Faces Deportation From Bali After Dancing Naked On Sacred Mountain

A Canadian tourist has got himself into a pickle by dancing naked on a mountain in Bali.

The man, who describes himself on Instagram as a “joy expert” and a “mind body healer,” took to social media over the weekend to share footage of himself doing the haka naked on Mount Batur. Mount Batur is an active volcano in Bali, and one of the four sacred mountains on the island.

According to screenshots of the (now, it seems, deleted) Instagram reel, published by The Bali Times and Coconuts, the man wrote: “When you strip naked without shame and be seen. You become a fearless child of god.”

Instagram account @balinese.media wrote recently: “Following the alleged action of Caucasians dancing naked at the top of Mount Batur, the Immigration Office immediately took quick steps.”

Image via Coconuts

According to @balinese.media, the Denpasar Immigration Party have said they are investigating the “long-haired Caucasians who made a scene.”

According to Coconuts, a local media outlet, Immigration officials have identified the alleged culprit, and he has been “summoned for questioning at the Denpasar Immigration Office this morning.”

Coconuts reports: “Officials say JDC has been staying in Uluwatu, Badung regency.”

DMARGE has seen three recent videos on the man’s Instagram story, in which he says: “I would like to make this right and publically apologise from my heart. My goal is not to stay, it’s to make it right. Can someone help me?”

Comments on the Kuta Bali Info Facebook page

On Facebook, on the Kuta Bali Info page, opinion was split. Some people wondered what the big deal was, while others wrote comments like: I’ll pay his taxi fare to the airport.”

Another wrote: “We need tourist but we don’t need a trash !!!! There’s a norm and taboo in every place. You are a guest here so put some freaking respect for a local culture and religion!!!! Mt Batur is holy place for Balinese soooooo if he’s wanna get naked in his own country or at home please do we don’t freaking care but don’t put in public social media that’s called moron disrespect.”

More comments on the Kuta Bali Info Facebook page

According to media outlet Coconuts the man defended himself the other day (after the dance, but prior to today’s apology video, which is, at the time of writing, on his Instagram page), calling it true freedom of expression.

“However, his statement seemed to be more addressed towards accusations that he disrespected Maori culture by performing the traditional dance in a state of undress rather than for any offense he may have caused toward people in Bali,” Coconuts reported yesterday.

“My intention was simply to enjoy sound, expression, and movement and freedom from my whole being… I have that right, and so do you,” the man said, according to Coconuts.

“But the message I wanted to send was one of Jesus, and truly I tell you, until you become innocent children, you will not become fearless and you will not enter the kingdom of God. My question for you is, if that was a child on the mountain, innocently expressing themselves, would you criticize, ostracize, shame and reject and push them away?”

The dancing video, and the alleged defence of it, appear to have been removed, and there is now an apology, this time more to Bali, in its place, on the man’s Instagram story.

There have also been reports that the man’s passport has been confiscated.

The Head of the Regional Bali Office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry Jamaruli Manihuruk said in a press release: “The foreigner’s passport was immediately secured by the Denpasar Immigration Intelligence Section Team and asked the sponsor to contact the foreigner to cooperate with him in coming to the Denpasar Immigration Office on Monday 25th April.”

What Elon Musk Buying Twitter Means For Crypto
What Elon Musk Buying Twitter Means For Crypto

Everyone’s favourite unpredictable billionaire, Elon Musk is once again making international headlines after Twitter accepted his offer to buy the social media platform outright.

Musk, who is already Twitter’s largest investor (he owns 9% of the company) has officially announced that he will buy the platform for $44 billion ($61 billion AUD) and take the company private to unlock its “tremendous potential.”

Any investor who owns shares in Twitter (TWTR) will be paid around $54.20 ($75.40 AUD) per share, which is nearly 40% more than Twitter was worth on April 1st — the day that Musk first went public with his ownership decision.

While all of these headlines are super gripping, and as complex debates around free speech begin to heat up, some of us just want to know – what will this mean for the cryptocurrency market?

There will be some big changes

Ol’ Musky is no stranger to stuffing around with crypto. In the past he’s seen billions of dollars flow in and out of sh*tcoins like DOGE and SHIB just by posting memes on Twitter and he’s even sent shockwaves through the global financial market after announcing that Tesla would buy Bitcoin.

So, it’s pretty safe to assume that over the next few weeks we will see some more, ever-unpredictable announcements from Musk that will have some effect on crypto.

On the more concrete side, there are some definite things we know about what Elon wants to do with the platform and we can make some reasonable guesses about their flow-on effects in the world of crypto.

Over the past few months these are the main things that Musk has made public note of changing include:

  • Getting rid of spam bots
  • Human authentication
  • Making the algorithm open source
  • New features
  • Prioritizing free speech

The end of spam as we know it

Getting rid of crypto-related spam and bots would be an enormous win for the cryptocurrency market. As any #cryptotwitter user would know, the sheer volume of scams and fake information peddled by bots and nefarious actors on Twitter is practically inconceivable.

Kicking junk bots off the platform for good will reduce the number of scams, cut through the “noise” and help streamline focus on useful developments in the blockchain space — as well as making the overall user-experience of the platform much cleaner.

While all of this looks great on paper, getting rid of spam bots and “authenticating all humans” might prove to be a pretty major challenge, which could actually impact the crypto market negatively.

Balancing privacy & free speech

Anonymity and crypto tend to go hand in hand, with privacy being one of the main reasons Bitcoin was designed in the first place. It will be interesting to see how Musk balances requiring human authentication without taking away from the privacy that makes the Twitter platform unique from its competitors…

Secondly, his focus on free speech means that previously censored voices (*cough* Donald Trump) may have an opportunity to re-join the platform. While you might be thinking: ‘what on earth does unbanning Trump have to do with crypto?’ It’s worth remembering that much like Musk, Trump’s tweets also had the ability to move global markets

RELATED: Elon Musk, The Internet’s Biggest Troll, Buys Twitter For $44 Billion

Not only that but prioritizing free speech means less shadow-banning and other forms of censorship which could see even more volatility added to the crypto market as accounts with big followings are more free to speak their minds…

How this deal could change the market

Moving beyond the changes, Musk’s decision to buy Twitter could have bigger implications for the crypto and stock market in terms of overall price movement.

The crypto market has been struggling since November last year, and with so much bearish outlook — all it would take is one small spark to ignite some action on the charts. This deal has already caused significant moves in the market, with the S&P returning its highest gains of the past weeks on the very same day.

So, if anyone can deliver crypto from salvation it’s a reasonable bet that it will be “The Dogefather” himself.

There’s a lot to worry about in this day and age. There was the global pandemic that shut down the world for two years and took many lives. Not to mention climate change, increased cost of living, more and more people are developing mental health issues… the list goes on.

But there’s one more thing to add to your list of growing concerns in 2022. Elon Musk wants everyone to die… someday.

Okay, perhaps we’re being a tad melodramatic. But Musk does think that people shouldn’t aim to live for a super long time. Why? Because society would go stale.

Though this might seem surprising from the world’s most famous tech bro, it’s quite refreshing to hear (you’d normally think boffins like Musk would be the ones researching creepy life-extending technology, so it’s nice to hear him say he doesn’t think it’s the greatest idea).

The billionaire owner of Tesla and now Twitter said in an interview with WELT, that he believes that most people are incapable of changing their minds and so, in their old age are just prolonging stale ideas that don’t help society progress.

“I don’t think we should try to have people live for [a] very long time; for a really long time. That would cause ossification of society because the truth is, most people don’t change their mind. They just die. And so, if they don’t die, we’ll be stuck with old ideas and society won’t advance.”

As an example, Musk pointed out that in the United States, the president Joe Biden – currently aged 79 years old – and most of its past leaders have been much older than the majority of people that make up America’s population and therefore haven’t been able to truly connect with “the people.”

“The leaders of so many countries are extremely old. Look, I mean the US; it’s you know, very, very ancient leadership and it’s just impossible to stay in touch with the people if you are like, many generations older than them.

The founders in the US put minimum ages for political office but they did not put maximum ages because they did not expect that people will be living so long…”

Musk is ultimately saying that because technology and medicine have come so far, which has led to people living longer and age expectancies to increase, we are now stuck with old people in power who don’t know what the people want.

“In order for a democracy to function well, the leaders must be reasonably in touch with the bulk of the population and if you’re too young or too old, you can’t say you’ll be in touch.”

No matter your opinion on Musk, you have to admit he’s got a point.
