It’s no secret that guys lust after a luxury timepiece. Rolex, Omega, IWC, you name it, the modern man is going to want it. But when finances are tight, a more affordable brand has to suffice. For myself, affordable is, unfortunately, all I can aspire to, but luckily, there are plenty of brands to choose from that don’t scrimp on style or quality.
Traditionally more ‘affordable’ watches haven’t been all that fantastic when compared to their exotic swiss cousins, but today this is far from true. There is a myriad of brands that high quality, beautifully designed watches all for the tiniest of fractions of the price of their luxurious counterparts. At their core, they still perform the same function and do so almost as well as their expensive counterparts, but they do so without a ridiculous mark-up that a brand with the cache of Rolex can do.
For some time, those who had the funds to delve into the world of fine Swiss watchmaking would raise their nose at the thought or sight of the likes of a Seiko or Citizen. Again, those times have changed and so has the watch community. Ultimately what binds the watch world together is a love for a small mechanical device that sits upon one’s wrist and tells the time. Whether you wear a $500,000 Richard Mille or a $50 Swatch, you ultimately share a passion for the same thing, watches. In this day and age, the worlds watch community appreciates this passion more than ever.
Sure an affordable watch, won’t have the most accurate Swiss movements or be made from some exotic blend of carbon fibre and white gold, but as a daily timekeeper they still carry out their main function and you don’t have to worry as much if they succumb to the odd knock or scrape.

Women want to be with him, men want to be him. Not just content with being one of the best-looking men on the planet or having his own brand of gin, Ryan Reynolds also consistently brings his A-game when it comes to style. His casual attire frequently shows us how to own the weekend, but it’s his sartorial dress sense that has caught our eye today.
In fact, we’re rather jealous of the suit he rocked at a fundraising event hosted by The Michael J. Fox Foundation on November the 16th in New York City. Designed by Italian fashion label Brunello Cucinelli – a brand the Canadian actor has been seen wearing on previous occasions – the three-piece velvet maroon suit is a masterclass is luxurious tailoring. And given that his previous Brunello suits have been custom, we’d bet our lunch money this latest is too.
The undone button on his double-breasted waistcoat, pocket square and ankle-hugging pants with complementing socks are all subtle, but essential moves to ensure Reynolds looks more Deadpool than deadpan. We haven’t been able to track down where his Oxford dress shoes are from, but the chunky sole adds an adroit finishing touch.

Reynolds attended the event, titled A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson’s, without wife Blake Lively, but was snapped on the red carpet alongside Michael J. Fox and his wife Tracy Pollan. Other celebs in attendance included Julianne Moore, Sheryl Crow, and Joan Jett.
Ryan is set to appear in the upcoming Netflix movie 6 Underground, written by the team behind Deadpool and directed by Michael Bay.
Now, leave us alone while we stare at that suit for a little while longer…

The Virgin Australia Group has announced changes to its fleet and network as customer demands shift “in line with the political landscape.”This comes after a review, the recommendations of which the Virgin Australia Group says “will deliver at least a two per cent reduction in domestic capacity in the second half of the 2020 financial year compared to the same period last year.”This change reflects business (and leisure) passengers’ changing priorities, something which Virgin Australia Group CEO and Managing Director Paul Scurrah highlighted in a recent announcement.
“Our schedule continues to reflect demand from our business and leisure customers.”
“Some of today’s changes respond to shifting demand on some routes, and others are about refocussing Virgin Australia and Tigerair Australia on the destinations we feel they are best suited,” he continued.Virgin Australia will make several changes to its domestic and international network, the Group revealed in a press release, including the suspension of Melbourne-Hong Kong from the 11th of February 2020.That said, Virgin Australia will retain a daily service to Hong Kong from Sydney and, as per the release, “continue to improve [their] onward connections through [their] partners Hong Kong Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.”Of the change, Mr Scurrah said: “Demand for the Hong Kong route has declined in line with the political landscape and we feel this is now best serviced through a single daily Sydney-Hong Kong service.”
“The Airbus A330 currently operating the Melbourne-Hong Kong services will be re-deployed onto our daily Brisbane-Haneda flights commencing in March 2020, where we expect strong demand.”
As for the exact network and fleet changes: Virgin Australia will begin services between Brisbane and Tokyo (Haneda), Japan, from the 29th of March 2020, with Haneda flights timed to offer connecting services between major Australian and New Zealand points.Virgin Australia will also re-launch the popular Melbourne-Denpasar route from the 29th of March 20201. All up, Virgin Australia will cancel the following domestic and international routes:
- Canberra-Perth from the 6th of December 2019
- Gold Coast-Perth from the 19th of January 2020
- Hong Kong-Melbourne from the 11th of February 2020
- Sydney-Christchurch from the 29th of April 2020
Meanwhile, they will commence the following international routes:
- Brisbane-Haneda from the 29th of March 2020
- Melbourne-Denpasar from the 29th of March 2020
Virgin Australia will also make the following additional schedule changes:
- Reduce the Sydney-Tamworth route from double daily to six services per week
- Add four additional frequencies per week on Sydney-Port Macquarie
- Reduce Auckland-Sydney frequencies from up to 19 return services to 14 services per week
- Replace Tigerair’s Adelaide-Brisbane flights with five additional services per week
Additionally, following a review of Virgin Australia’s regional airline fleet strategy, three of its Fokker 100 (F100) aircraft will also be retired from the fleet by March 2020, the airline has announced.Virgin Australia subsidiary Tigerair Australia has made some network and fleet changes too, in a bid to increase its focus on the domestic leisure market, whilst retaining a competitive proposition on the triangle.“Tigerair Australia,” the Virgin Group says, “Will also continue to be focussed on transitioning to a single fleet type of Boeing 737s and will reduce its fleet by two aircraft with the removal of two Airbus A320 aircraft by mid-2020.”In terms of full changes, Tigerair Australia will withdraw the following domestic routes in addition to capacity reductions on existing routes:
- Brisbane-Darwin from the 3rd of February 2020
- Proserpine-Sydney from the 3rd of February 2020
- Adelaide-Brisbane from the 29th of March 2020

Keeping up with the latest health and fitness trends can be as irksome as Keeping Up With The Kardashians. How do you choose which is best for you? Which ones provide results and which are just fads?
Intermittent fasting is fast becoming a buzzword. What started out as a minor, almost religious cult is slowly but surely going mainstream.
But with great popularity comes great misconceptions – something nutrition coach and author of New York Times best-seller Genius Foods, Max Lugavere, has made a career out of exposing.
Enter: Max’s recent Instagram post, in which he reveals the truth about intermittent fasting to his followers, explaining that placing a focus on when you eat, rather than what you eat, can not only aid with weight-loss but can also benefit your mental wellbeing.
He also points out, though that it’s not all good, and delves into some of the common pitfalls of skipping breakfast intermittent fasting.
Intermittent fasting can, by definition, have various meanings. Max says it’s more of a “blanket term”, that can either mean “skipping early breakfasts and eating an earlier dinner”, for example, waiting a couple of hours to have breakfast after you wake up and having your last meal around three hours before you go to bed.
He adds the term can also “mean monthly consecutive low-calorie days deliberately and cautiously calibrated to prevent malnutrition.”
View this post on Instagram
He stresses that the diet isn’t a “magic” method for weight-loss, although of course, by restricting the amount of food you eat, you will soon see the pounds drop off. However, this can only be achieved by keeping an eye on the foods and the amount of food you eat during feeding times. There’s no point in not eating for 16 hours, only to gorge on burgers, chocolate and fizzy drinks in the eight hour feeding period, as wonderful as it sounds.

The 16-8 method is one of the more popular fasting models, whereby you eat during an 8-hour window and fast for 16 hours.

Aside from seeing more favourable numbers on the scales, Healthline adds that intermittent fasting can also positively affect your sleep (both longevity and quality) metabolism and, contrary to what you’d believe, can support muscle growth. There’s even research to suggest it can reduce your risk of getting, and potentially even prevent, cancer.
So, next time you head into the kitchen, consider grabbing yourself a glass of water and leave the food in the fridge. Your mind and body will thank you.

Forget the bright lights of business class; budget air travel is the future. As aviation analysts warned last week, this means more cancellations, more delays, more ‘bumped’ passengers, less luggage and less hot breakfasts. Worst of all; it’s our own fault. Live by the wallet, die by back pain.Of course, there are still quality airlines out there, but numerous studies have shown that despite being humiliated on every level, people book their flights based on price above all else. Hence the race to the bottom. On that note: while there are dodgier ways to bail on Australia than Jetstar (think: Tigerair, Malindo Air and Scoot), thanks to its market share, Jetstar is Australia’s most prolific screwer over (and facilitator) of budget holiday plans. So it was quite a shock when I, a self-proclaimed business class snob, came to appreciate the charms of The Budget Kangaroo.Over the course of a 14-hour return trip (7 hours there, 8 hours back), here’s how I realised Jetstar is Australia’s best airline, as well as its worst.
Flight Facts
Route: Sydney-Denpasar, returnPrice: $381Flight Number: JQ 38Aircraft: Boeing 787 DreamlinerFlight Time: 7 hours (Sydney-Denpasar), 8 hours (Denpasar-Sydney)Seat: 48G (Sydney-Denpasar), 31C (Denpasar-Sydney)
At the airport
I arm myself with a paperback in case a fight breaks out, or in case I need to swat a seat kicker, smack an armrest stealer or tap an unconscious aisle seat gargoyle. I also begin to drink a Peroni, only to rush it as the unheard-of happens: my Jetstar flight is on-time and boarding.
Getting on the plane
Staff as friendly as any Qantas flight I’ve been on, and despite my initial dismay at being seated down the back, my mood lifts as I discover I am in an aisle seat with the two seats next to me empty.
Disaster strikes
Just as I finish smugly snap-chatting my spare seats, a ‘boys trip’ advances down the aisle, Bintang singlets, Nikes, fuckboi haircuts, duty-free alcohol and blue Gatorade (#healthymix) on full display. Two squeeze past me into the middle and window seat, the other asks if I mind swapping to the other side of the plane, where he is stuck in a middle seat.
Regret
While I feel vindicated in saying no (“sorry mate, would have if it was an aisle seat”) I quickly regret my decision, as the guys beside me start treating this Boeing Dreamliner like the Oxford Art Factory. Fortunately, the flight attendant comes over and tells them they had better pack it in, or be arrested upon landing. Not sure if this is true, but it worked.
Discomfort
Forget your spine (that’s a guaranteed write off), the real discomfort on a Jetstar flight is other passengers. Case in point: my ‘mate’ who – halfway through the trip – decides to take his shoes off and cross his knees, providing my nostrils with an advance taste of Seminyak’s nightlife.
Self-flagellation
Just as I enter the depths of despair: the food cart. But hang on a minute, it’s not stopping, as I didn’t order online. And I’m not spending $20 on some limp re-heated meal anyway. I look on in envy as economy veterans chomp airport Subways and toasted chicken and avocado sandwiches.
Concession
After we land in Denpasar I get talking with my shoe-averse neighbours about phone data and holiday plans. I stop my moaning and realise: we’re all suckers for a cheap flight. And just because I’ve got used to flying Qantas (and have lost my thick skin), there’s no reason not to enjoy a Jetstar flight – especially one that cost $381 to the $700 that some of my friends shelled out to fly with a more ‘reputable’ airline.
The return flight
The flight is delayed by an hour, but the sense of solidarity as we all complain about not being allowed to take our duty-free water on board, our impending dehydration and the pain of trying to sleep in an upright position during an 11:30pm to 8:00am red eye is uplifting. As is people’s ingenuity: in stark contrast to the business class passenger I witness throwing a fit upstairs due to a mild lounge inconvenience, the economy passengers around me simply take their hard goods out of their bags, use them as pillows, chuck on some tunes, and doze.
The conclusion – we’re all suckers for a cheap flight
Sure: Jetstar is one of Australia’s worst airlines. But it’s also one of the best, as it achieves the lazy cliche politicians love to abuse, and which is actually quite a rare occurrence – it brings everyone together, from all walks of life, and gives them a shared experience.

We all have our favourite pair of jeans, they’ve probably been with you a while, fit just how you like and are the perfect colour. What’s this? Daniel Craig, the man who’s played the world’s most famous Secret Service Agent for the past 13 years, wearing a suit that’s neither single, nor-double breasted? It’s long been rumoured the British actor will hang up his Omega watches and find himself a new cocktail of choice following the release of Bond 25 ‘No Time To Die‘, and his latest fashion statement may just prove it.
Appearing at the LA premiere for Knives Out on Thursday the 14th November – Craig’s latest film, which sees him take on the role of a detective to solve a murder mystery – the blue-eyed blond was sporting a grey suit that’s very non-Bond. The suit in question – designed by Dior’s Kim Jones – employs a side-fastening button, causing the blazer to wrap around the body; a country mile away from the classic three-pieces we’ve seen the actor wear on previous occasions.
So often the master of sartorial dress, Craig’s latest look has certainly divided opinion, with users on Instagram commenting that “not even he can carry that off…I mean what a hideous design,” and “the blazer looks like a door.” Others meanwhile are in support of the unusual design, praising the choice of stylist Catherine Hayward.

It might not be what we’re used to seeing Daniel Craig wearing, but if he’s no longer going to be Bond, it’s something we’re just going to have to get used to.
Elsewhere the actor is as stylish as ever, teaming his suit with a pair Crockett & Jones Northcote boots and Omega Seamaster with nato strap. The iconic watch is one of the more affordable models in Omega’s repertoire, with prices starting at around AU$2,000.
Perhaps he isn’t ready to say bye-bye to Bond just yet.

Touched down in Sydney and want to shack up with a beach babe? Or maybe you crave an inner-city rave partner. Either way: before you get your budgie-smugglers in a twist, forget trying to seduce anyone with shrimp on a barbie; if you want to make waves in the city of gun barrel views (and killer bills), you need to follow the rules of a local sexpert. To that end: D’Marge called sexologist, relationship expert host of the podcast Sex & Life and Sydney local, Nikki Goldstein, to learn about her top tips for tourists looking to find love in the world’s third most liveable city, which also happens to be one of the trickiest locales in the world to find a (quality) date. With nightlife a constant source of controversy, a spread-out population and eye-watering cocktail prices, it’s little wonder many Sydney-siders spend more time tucked up in bed swiping than they do dancing on tabletops. There are also – despite its reputation for ‘having no culture’ – a few lifestyle quirks that you will need to get a grip of before taking a Sydneysider for a spin. So: whether you’re a Spanish surfer, a British backpacker, an American arts student or a Melbourne hipster up for the weekend, here’s what you need to know before hooking up in Sydney.
Anti-social is the new social
In a world where we’re constantly told to get off our phones and revert to actually talking to people face-to-face, Nikki says the secret to securing dates is actually in our hands. “I would say get on apps, Sydney is a metropolitan city but also an app city.”She says using dating apps is particularly useful if you find yourself solo in Sydney, “If you don’t have mutual friends it’s always really good to have a good profile on an app – let me stress the word good profile because you need to project yourself how you really are.” Ergo, remove any gym selfies right away.
Get cultured
Like most cities, Sydney has a diverse arts and culture scene. Nikki says the multitude of events are an ideal place to meet that special someone: “Look at going to something you’re interested in – whether it’s a music festival, a wine festival or a French food festival. We are a city of free events and a lot of entertainment.”
“Not only do you have the opportunity to explore the city, but also meet someone who has a common area of interest.”
Try meeting people during the day
The idea of going up to someone in a bar can be daunting for the modern man. Traditional pickup lines are becoming a thing of the past, with women wanting a guy with a certain je ne sais quoi. To this extent, Nikki says, “Take the opportunity to meet someone with similar interests to make it easier to start a conversation.”“Instead of walking up to someone in a bar, try a group paddleboarding class (if you’re a water person), where you can make a cheeky comment,” Nikki tells us.
“Or at a festival, when you’re lining up at the bar you can talk to a girl about the music, it takes the stress away and makes it easier to meet someone without using the standard stock pickup lines.”
Monogamy isn’t assumed in the early stages of dating
While you may be used to exclusivity where you’re from, Sydney is very open when it comes to modern dating. As Nikki tells us, “You have to assume the person you are talking to online or starting to date is either dating or talking to other people online.”If it’s a monogamous relationship you’re after rather than a casual fling, it’s fine, but Nikki says, “You actually need to address it because if not, it will be assumed that just because you go on a date, it won’t then mean they’re off the market. If you want to take things further after the second, third, fourth or even fifth encounter then you have to talk about it.”
“If not, you might get a shock when one goes, ‘hang on, I thought we were both seeing other people.'”
Expand your search radius
You’ll learn quickly about Sydney’s lockout laws when you first arrive, with many Sydneysiders telling you the nightlife scene isn’t what it once was. The laws have certainly affected the going out culture of the city, so Nikki says to take this into account when searching for a mate.
“You used to be able to go out to a bar and pick up, but a combination of lockout laws and nightlife districts being spread out have meant we’re not so much of an in-person dating city anymore.”
“That’s why I always say you’ve got to be on the apps or looking at going somewhere with that commonality because I’m not convinced that nightlife these days is what it used to be,” Nikki adds.
Don’t dismiss a quiet night in
So you’ve matched with a few people on dating apps; what next? Nikki says Sydney’s prices are causing more people to stay in. “When you’re in your late 20s or early 30s, you’re more conscious of money so getting an Uber or taxi and travelling halfway around the city and then paying for drinks is hard to do on a regular basis. Especially when you’re paying rent or a mortgage.”Our advice? Don’t immediately assume he or she’ll be seduced by a fancy restaurant or bar; invite them over for a homecooked meal and a bottle of wine. Or if you know of a house party, nab a plus one: the extra crowd will help relieve the pressure of one-on-one chat.Tackling the Sydney dating scene can be tricky for the uninitiated, but now you’ve had our help, we’re confident you can strut your stuff during your stay. If all else fails, you can always lie to friends when you get back home.
