Boost Your Golf Game With TAG Heuer’s Newest Smartwatch

The following article was produced in partnership with TAG Heuer.

Golf is experiencing an unprecedented boom in Australia right now. It’s not hard to see why, either: after years of being cooped up at home, Australians have found the fresh air and wide-open spaces of the golf course – plus its social and sporting virtues – particularly exciting.

Indeed, there’s never been a better time to get into golf than now in 2022. But at a time where Aussies across the country are working on their swings and religiously pouring over the stats of their last eighteen holes, what’s the best way to keep up and maximise your golf game?

Enter the new TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition: the latest and greatest incarnation of the world’s most popular luxury smartwatch that’s filled with golf-focused features that’ll make you the next Arnold Palmer.

Or, at least, as stylish as him…

You can customise your Connected Golf Edition with a number of exclusive, golf-inspired watch faces.

TAG Heuer has long been the undisputed leader in the golf luxury smartwatch sector, and their newest Connected continues that tradition of excellence. It’s based on the latest version of the Connected, the Calibre E4, which was introduced just months ago and features a whole suite of improvements, like a new guided workout feature as well as updates to its acclaimed running, cycling and swimming apps.

The Calibre E4 is already the ultimate fitness watch but the Golf Edition adds amazing golf features into the mix. For example, it can automatically detect golf swings to allow users to track their performance in the app without having to activate the function by hand, thanks to its accelerometer and gyroscope, so you don’t have to remember to track your drive.

On top of that, its Driving Range feature offers a ‘heat map’ for every hole, which shows where shots landed on previous rounds, which can help you pick the perfect club and route to each hole. No need for a caddy.

It can also track hazards and distances on 40,000 golf courses around the world, as well as show distances, club information, scores and hole numbers as you play in real-time. Oh yeah, and now the watch’s new 3D maps technology can generate a cool video you can share with your friends with the help of its iOS map. Perfect if you need to prove your doubting mates wrong about the quality of your form.

A rubberised crown, sleek mechanical pushers and a responsive touch screen make the Connected Golf Edition a breeze to use.
Pair up your Connected Golf Edition with the TAG Heuer Golf app for additional functionality.

Form follows function with the Connected Golf Edition: it’s easily distinguishable from the standard Connected thanks to its ceramic bezel which proclaims its golfing focus, its white and green colour-scheme as well as its cool dimpled strap, just like a golf ball. They’re nice touches that aren’t too on the nose.

These aesthetic touches aren’t just a gimmick though. That strap? It features an integrated magnetic golf ball marker. The bezel, instead of featuring a tachymetric scale or minute markers as you might see on other watches, has markers for 18 holes – an easy-to-read, ever-present scorecard. Great for forgetful putters like me…

There’s plenty of fitness trackers, smartwatches and golf watches on the market but it’s features like these that really make the TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition stand out from the pack.

In essence, it’s the ultimate golf companion, both on and off the green. Good-looking, hard-working, easy to use and incredibly versatile, it’s the perfect watch for seasoned pros and green graduates alike.

Sydney’s King Of Crypto Is Renting Out His $17 Million House On Airbnb
Sydney’s King Of Crypto Is Renting Out His $17 Million House On Airbnb

Cryptocurrency has made beggars out of some people (just check the fanpages of dying altcoins) and kings out of others.

Speaking of which: tech tycoon Fred Schebesta‘s South Coogee ‘castle’, which he bought for $16.85 million last year, is currently available to rent out on Airbnb.

Though it is not public knowledge exactly how much money the comparison website Finder co-founder has invested in Bitcoin, Schebesta invested in Bitcoin in 2017 – when it was just $4,000.

Got a spare $26,917? Got yourself this Coogee Airbnb.

Schebesta, who has an estimated net worth of $214million, told social media content creator @fonziegomez after buying his house: “this is the house of crypto” and “crypto built this house.”

We’ll leave the pros and cons of crypto for another day though; today is about sharing the fact you can spend a night at the father of one’s, as it is described on Airbnb, “crypto castle” for a casual $52,911 a night.

It only has two reviews, both from December 2021 (and both positive).

Left: the crypto castle’s pool (via Airbnb). Right: reviews from guests.

Notable features of the crypto castle include a chef grade kitchen, Gaggenau appliances, a butlers pantry, two wet bars, a gym, an infinity pool, sheltered alfresco areas, designer bathrooms, designed powder rooms, a home office, an integrated sound system and a four car garage.

According to realestate.com.au, the incredible house was designed “with no expense spared by Renato D’Ettorre in the 1990s.”

The crypto castle, which is located on Bunya Parade, has five bedrooms and five bathrooms. It’s made out of sandstone, concrete, steel and glass.

Images via Airbnb.

One of the coolest aspects is that all of the crypto castle’s rooms face away from the street towards the sea, making it one of the most private feeling pads in the eastern suburbs.

Photos on Airbnb show off the place’s incredible views and outstanding amenities, which you can have access to, if you book it. The only slight snag is the price: when we searched for a booking we were given the price of just under $27,000 for one night.

That’s a costly (half) weekend away. Just imagine the price for booking it for both Friday and Saturday nights (actually, don’t; it was up around $53,000).

If the crypto castle was rented out on Airbnb every night of the year, for $26,000, it would bring in $9,855,000 anually. Even if it was only rented out one night a week for that price, it would bring in a cool $1,404,000 a year.

And we thought these Byron Bay Airbnbs were expensive…

The Most Ridiculous First Class Complaints Of All Time
The Most Ridiculous First Class Complaints Of All Time

If economy is Guantanamo Bay, first class is a white-collar prison. Despite this, pointy end passengers still have their fair share of complaints.

Randy Pegler, a former Pilot at Northwest & Delta Airlines from 1996 to 2015, once pointed out that the law of averages means the bulk of complaints come from economy. But when first class passengers complain, the sheer audacity of some of their complaints, one might argue, makes up for their rarity.

On that note: here are some of the wildest first class complaints ever.

First off the blocks we have ‘Nutgate’ – an incident that went so viral it now has its own Wikipedia page. This incident took place on Korean Air Flight 086 and involved the airline’s then-vice president Heather Cho (Korean name: Cho Hyun-ah).

The problem? She was pissed off that the flight attendants were serving nuts in their original packaging, rather than on a plate (as she believed they should have been, for first class). She was enraged to the point she ordered the aircraft to return to the gate before takeoff.

After a heated confrontation with the cabin crew chief, Cho assaulted him and told him to get off the plane. This meant the plane had to return to the gate and caused a delay of 20 minutes.

It came out after the incident that serving the nuts on plates was not even part of the airline’s procedures. When the incident made headlines around the world both Cho and Korean air came under heavy criticism and Cho resigned from one of her executive positions (she held several) at Korean Air.

She was later tried in a South Korean court for obstructing aviation safety. She was found guilty and given a twelve-month prison sentence. She served five months. The flight attendant and cabin crew chief eventually returned to their positions.

Another amazing first class complaint from the annals of history is the time two Qantas first class passengers, due to fly from Los Angeles to Melbourne, refused to fly once they realised the airline didn’t have pyjamas in an XL size.

The duo refused a pair of business class pyjamas and insisted they must be given a first class type, in XL. The issue couldn’t be worked out before the aircraft took off, so the angry couple demanded to leave the plane.

The aircraft crew, unable to source first-class pyjamas in that size in time, eventually agreed, and the aggrieved pair walked back into the terminal.

This meant the A380 was delayed for 30 minutes before beginning its 15-hour flight to Australia.

Rather than feeling angry about this, some other passengers on board told Australian media outlets that they laughed their heads off when the captain announced the reason for the delay.

A business class passenger said the captain had no qualms revealing what had happened.

“He said: ‘Just to inform you all, the reason we’ve had the delay is because two of our first class passengers refused to fly on this plane as there were no extra large pyjamas on board for them,'” one passenger said.

The same passenger also claimed that “the pyjama guy” wanted the crew to tell everyone why the plane was late.

“In his mind, he thought everyone sympathised with him…If you didn’t laugh, you would have cried. It was unbelievable.”

Another wild incident is the time a Delta Air Lines flight attendant smashed a bottle of red wine over a first class passengers’ head during a Chicago to Beijing flight. The first class passenger was trying to open the emergency exit at the time.

The passenger is said to have made for the door an hour into the flight and then punched a flight attendant who tried to stop him.

The crew allegedly smashed a bottle of vino over the passenger’s head, before restraining him with the help of other passengers.

According to The Telegraph, “As the scuffle unfolded, the pilot was forced to return to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport where, according to Delta, [the passenger] was taken away by law enforcement officers.”

Another wild ‘complaining’ story comes from Reddit. In a 2016 thread, one Reddit user, who claims to be a first class flight attendant, said that on a flight to Los Vegas a drunk woman spilt her water on a sandwich she bought and came up to the first class cabin to whinge and demand to talk to the captain about it.

“She demanded we compensate her with 5 vodkas and 10 blankets.”

The first class flight attendant said: “As my colleague goes over to wipe the tray table down with some napkins she starts screaming: ‘She punched me, this fucking bitch punched me!’ At that point you are for sure going to be getting a warning card.”

“Three days later this same woman tries to board the plane in Vegas and what do you know 4 of us that were working the original flight are now working this flight and recognise her so she was kicked off immediately for disturbance to flight crew.”

In the same thread Reddit user Balteuss says their godmother was an air hostess who was once asked by a passenger if she wanted to join him in the bathroom.

“She reported this to her very male, very gay, cabin supervisor who proceeded to grab the man by the arm and very loudly offer his services if the man really wanted a cabin crew member. He declined for some reason.”

Another memorable complaint comes from a blogger who was not happy with his first-class seats on British Airways. He was unimpressed with the “scuffed up seat,” leaky air conditioning and – the ultimate insult – “half a hotdog.”

Another blogger, in March 2022, called the staff on his Emirates first class flight “underwhelming.”

Finally, though the following story is business class, not first class, it deserves an honourable mention: the Singapore Airlines business class passenger who griped about the lack of champagne (and not the commensurable decrease in ticket price) during COVID.

“Singapore Airlines should be ashamed of itself for charging so much for a flight that was worth very little. Just like all restaurants which were forced to do take out service at a discount during phase 1, SQ should be charging 30% less for its business flights,” the disgruntled passenger posted on Facebook.

“Singapore Airlines should be ashamed of itself for charging so much for a flight that was worth very little. Just like all restaurants which were forced to do take out service at a discount during phase 1, SQ should be charging 30% less for its business flights.”

“Why?” he then asks, before listing all his complaints.

“No champagne aboard business cabin. How then is my cabin different from economy? You have one red wine, one white wine, tiger beer onboard for business flights. I suppose this is what is also available for economy flights.”

“I don’t understand how having champagne would endanger safe distancing in the cabin.”

He then goes on to list a bunch more grievances, of which we’ll spare you the details.

At least he didn’t become unruly during the flight. As we learnt the other day, you can get fined up to US$81,950 (AU$109,821) for being a dickhead on a flight.

The World’s Most Desirable Watches Are Finally Coming Down In Price
The World’s Most Desirable Watches Are Finally Coming Down In Price

Luxury watches have never been more a part of the zeitgeist than they are right now in 2022. From song lyrics to social media and even your local pub – more people are talking about high-end timepieces than ever before.

Some brands and models get more love than others, though. Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Rolex… It’s brands like these that have captured peoples’ imaginations – and wallets. In-demand stainless steel luxury sports watches like the Royal Oak, Nautilus and Daytona respectively have become some of the hardest watches to acquire on the planet.

Prices on the aftermarket for these models have long reflected that, too. We’re talking 200%, sometimes even 300% markups in some instances, with prices having steadily climbed over the last 3 years. Until now, at least. Italian watch expert @watchanalytics has observed that recent market moves suggest we’ve hit the peak of watch speculation for these popular models – and now things are going to swing the other way.

“In the last month, the [upwards price] trend of the most sought after watches on the market has reversed its direction for the first time,” they say, explaining that we’re currently witnessing a substantial market correction.

“Just as the growth of these watches has been motivated by low production and [low] availability, this phase is also motivated by the contraction in demand due to too high prices.”

They point to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus specifically, sharing that on average prices for these two models have fallen by 7.3% since the beginning of March. It’s one hell of a correction, considering how ascendant prices for these two ‘Holy Trinity’ sports watches have been in recent memory.

@watchanalytics interprets this market shift like so: “as soon as owners observed a decline in the prices they flocked to the market to sell and this led to an oversupply which in turn caused an even greater drop in prices.
This phenomenon can also be clearly observed from the rather important differences in the graph between the listing prices (the offer prices) and the real market prices.”

They caution, however, that “at the moment it is not a market crash situation but a period of price adjustment. These are phases that alternate in all markets… [watches are] no exception.”

Indeed, one only has to look at the direction Rolex watch prices are moving in to see that what’s happening with APs and Pateks might not be indicative of the market as a whole. Prices for popular Rollies like the Submariner, Daytona and GMT-Master II haven’t weakened one bit.

Indeed, prices for the latter have seen particularly sharp price increases, perhaps in part to the hype surrounding Rolex’s unveiling of a new GMT-Master II at Watches & Wonders 2022.

Again, whether we’re talking about Royal Oaks or Rolexes, it’s worth pointing out that ask prices almost never equal market prices – so just because some chancer wants $100,000 for their beat-up old Rolex Air-King doesn’t mean it’ll ever sell for something even close to that figure.

Still, fingers crossed that what’s happening with Nautiluses (or is that Nautili?) and Royal Oaks is indicative of a forthcoming, broader market shift that’ll see prices get less silly for some of the world’s most popular watches.

Films Like The Hangover Have Given ‘Boys Trips’ An Unfair Reputation
Films Like The Hangover Have Given ‘Boys Trips’ An Unfair Reputation

Admit it, in our youth we all saw The Hangover and wished that one day we’d have a raunchy and ridiculously exciting trip to Vegas with our mates.

But over the years – and thanks to many, many movies – a stereotype has formed. And that stereotype is that every time men go away on a ‘boys’ trip’, the trip will solely revolve around booze, drugs and strippers.

Sure, there are some vacations that involve aspects of heavy drinking, crazy scenarios and debauchery, à la The Hangover, Hot Time Time Machine, EuroTrip and Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle, – although I don’t know anyone who’s ever had a trip as wild as the ones featured in those fictional films – but for the most part, boys’ trips simply involve healthy male bonding.

Think camping in a serene place where you spend the day fishing or surfing or four-wheel driving and then, at night, you enjoy a few beers over a campfire while chatting with your mates.

Therefore, there’s no need for society to make men feel guilty for going on boys’ trips or like they need to convince their partners that nothing nefarious will happen. Instead, we should encourage men to take trips away with their mates; especially as it’s good for their mental and physical health.

Multiple studies, including one done by Harvard University, show that by spending more time with friends – especially when on a vacation – men can improve their life satisfaction, reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, increase their life expectancy and cut the risk of heart disease.

Plus, as Mitch Adams, the co-founder and Transformation Coach at The Gentlemen’s Club – an immersive six-month program designed to take men on a journey to discover all things health and well-being, which includes a three-day ‘survival’ camp – advises, going on relaxing trips with friends can also help men focus on what’s important.

“[Trips away are] a much-needed reset for us. It enables us to strip away the facade that modern-day society has forced us to construct to communicate. It creates a connection back to self, our brothers and nature, giving us the chance to tap into what we really need and desire.

“This time together allows us to discover a new found purpose and energy. We then return home to our families and achieve new levels of elevation in the world.”

Mitch Adams

In my opinion, we as a society need to break the boys’ trip stereotype and support men when they take vacations with their mates, as they’ll definitely be better for it. Plus, the chances of them waking up with a missing tooth and a tiger in their bathroom are slim to none…

Men’s Shaved Hairstyles: Tips & Tricks

Shaved hair seems like pretty simple style to achieve, right? If you’re keen to make your shaved or fade hairstyle look it’s best, check out these simple tips and tricks.

  1. Using a water-based high-hold pomade, slick back the sides of the hair.
  2. Take a blow dryer and set to high heat.
  3. Using a round brush, start at the back of the head and roll the brush backwards while pushing the hair forward and upward. Proceed section by section, blow drying the brushed hair at the same time.
  4. Continue up to the hairline, brushing the hair forward and up while blow drying, then spend some extra time at the very front for extra volume. The hair should be pointed upwards at about a 60-degree angle.
  5. Take a quarter sized amount of the same water-based pomade and work it through the top of the hair, maintaining the height and shape from the blow dryer.
  6. Finish off with a blast of hairspray, applied about 10 inches from the head.

MEN’S SHAVED HAIRSTYLES EXPERT TIP – Phoenix Thompson, lead hairstylist, American CREW AustraliaWe are welcoming the change in style at the moment. But never fear, the high taper shaved look is still in, guys are just not wearing it quite as slick and groomed, embracing some more height and texture on top.Ask your barber or hairdresser for a high taper with scalp exposure. It can be worn neatly styled for work, and a change in finish for the weekend is only a product choice away.Dry in American CREW Firm Hold Gel for the foundation of this style, followed by American CREW Grooming Cream for a high shine finish, or American CREW Defining Paste for a more matte effect with texture.Follow the author – D’Marge Editor & Founder, Luc Wiesman on Instagram @lucwiesman

Men’s Hairstyle FAQ

What are the most popular shaved hairstyles for men?

For the shaved hairstyles, the most popular are the modern comb over, the slicked back, the pompadour and the man bun. The buzz cut and crew cut are also well-liked by men.

Do you use pomade on wet or dry hair?

It depends on the product you are using. For most pomades, you should apply it on damp hair. Too much water dilutes the product, while too dry makes even distribution difficult.

Does shaving kill hair follicles?

No. Shaving does not damage your hair follicles. There is also no way it can affect your strand thickness, color or rate of hair growth.

Why Every New House In Sydney Looks Like This
Why Every New House In Sydney Looks Like This

As anyone who’s interested in real estate can attest, house styles have drastically changed over the years. From Victorians to Columbians to Bungalows to McMansions, Sydney has a good mix of traditional and modern homes throughout its many suburbs.

However, as a recent Tweet pointed out, many ultra-modern “cookie cutter” houses have popped up in Sydney, especially in Five Dock.

Many Twitter users responded; with most agreeing that this style of home is “ugly” and “hideous”. One user wrote, “No character. Not a fan,” while another said, “That’s not architecture. That’s just mass materials arranged with no imagination.”

Some Twitter users questioned why this house style is suddenly so popular and many replied with their various opinions, such as, “Cheap and easy for unimaginative cut and paste ‘architects’ and [sic] Selleys no skills tradies to build: a plague of bland” and “It’s from the generation of architects who grew up playing Minecraft.”

We spoke to Christian Leung, a licensed real estate agent and Director of Stone Real Estate Five Dock, and he gave his professional opinion as to why Sydney – especially Five Dock, located in the City of Canada Bay – is slowly becoming filled with these ultra-modern styles of houses. He says it’s simply because they’re fresh and contemporary.

“Specifically within [the] Canada Bay Council [area], when owners go to the extent of building a new home, they aim for a modern build to create something special for themselves where they can get clever with design space, flow and natural light.

They build a home that suits the modern family both inside and out; a natural evolution of architecture and aesthetics. [Plus,] it’s also often, these modern homes that set new sale record prices for the suburb.”

Leung also said that building this style of home from scratch can be much cheaper than trying to maintain a ‘traditional’ house.

“A portion of buyers who purchase a character home, try to keep the charm and characteristics of a gone-by era. They do an extensive renovation [but this] can often be as expensive, if not more expensive, than a complete knockdown rebuild.”

It seems that the majority of Twitter users must have different tastes than the many people opting to build this style of home; why else would there suddenly be so many? And as Leung pointed out, why else would they sell at record prices? Hmmm, perhaps this mystery will never be solved…

Breitling’s Legendary Navitimer Gets A Makeover For Its 70th Anniversary
Breitling’s Legendary Navitimer Gets A Makeover For Its 70th Anniversary

While the rest of the watch world was getting ready to knock back flutes of champagne and swan around Geneva at Watches & Wonders 2022 – the industry’s biggest trade show – Breitling had other ideas.

Instead, the independent Swiss brand held their own ‘do in Zürich: taking over a corner of Kloten Airport and cheekily chartering a few Swiss Airlines jumbo jets to fly journalists to Geneva while presenting their new Navitimer collection in the air a day before W&W ’22, stealing a bit of the fair’s thunder in the process. Genius stuff.

Even more genius is the watch collection itself. Breitling has always been connected to the world of aviation and that’s not changing any time soon, but with this latest incarnation of their most famous watch, Breitling has reminded us that they’re no one-trick pony – and that the Navitimer’s much more than a utilitarian pilot’s instrument, especially in 2022.

Check out the new Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph collection below.

The first thing worth pointing out with the new Navitimer is that Breitling hasn’t thrown the baby out with the bathwater. All the classic Navitimer design features are still intact, like its famous slide rule, notched bezel and piston-shaped chronograph pushers. It’s still unmistakably a Navitimer.

Yet Breitling has introduced a bunch of quality-of-life improvements in this 2022 model that make the Navitimer more beautiful and wearable than ever before. For example, the chronograph subdials are now larger, and the date window is elegantly integrated into the 12-hour totaliser subdial at 6 o’clock. A more flattened slide rule and a subtly domed crystal make the new Navitimer feel more compact.

RELATED: Breitling Continues Their ‘Revhead Revolution’ With New Motorbike-Inspired Watch

Breitling fanboys will be particularly pleased to see that Breitling has brought back the iconic Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) wing logo in place of the Breitling ‘B’ logo Navitimers have rocked in recent years. AOPA, the largest aviators’ club in the world, made the Navitimer their official watch in 1954, and the AOPA logo long adorned classic Navitimer references. It’s a nice vintage touch that really elevates the 2022 Navitimer.

The stainless steel Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43s. L-R: ice blue (ref. AB0138241C1P1), mint green (ref. AB0138241L1P1), copper (ref. AB0138241K1P1), reverse panda (ref. AB0138211B1P1) and silver (ref. AB0138241G1P1).

The new Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph comes in a range of sizes (41, 43, or 46mm for particularly big boys), two case materials (stainless steel or 18ct red gold) and a choice of straps (semi-shiny alligator or Breitling’s signature seven-row metal bracelet).

Like some of the last few collections we’ve seen from the brand, Breitling has also brought some rather interesting dial colours to the table with the new Navitimer, too – including ice blue, mint green and a salmon-esque copper dial option.

In short, there’s a new Navitimer for every watch lover, and the Navitimer’s better than ever. What a great way to celebrate the watch’s 70th anniversary. Discover the entire 2022 Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph at Breitling’s online boutique here.
