Exercising May Not Be Key To Losing Weight, Study Suggests

They say you are what you eat. While that can elicit joke responses such as “I don’t remember eating an absolute legend,” it, for the most part, is most definitely true.If you find yourself on a diet comprised primarily of junk food: those with high sugar and fat contents, then you shouldn’t be surprised to find yourself tired and building a dad bod. For the most part, we’re told that the only way to reverse this is to start exercising. For many, it’s the first thing that comes to mind.Lifestyle guru Dave Asprey has recently weighed in on this argument, however, with a new study that suggests changing your diet is going to be more effective at helping you to lose weight than exercise.Citing research centre Springer Link, the study “enrolled adults with overweight or obesity to explore whether either low-carbohydrate diet (LCD) or exercise is more effective in metabolism improvement.”

A post shared by Dave Asprey (@dave.asprey)

Taking a sample size of 45 eligible adults, they were randomly divided into either a low carbohydrate diet group, who consumed “fewer than 50g of carbohydrates a day” or an exercise group, where they performed “moderate-to-vigorous exercise for three weeks.”Following the three week period, the researchers found “the LCD led to a larger weight loss than EX” and ultimately concluded “compared with exercise, LCD might be more effective for weight loss and glucose homeostasis in people with obesity.”Dave does add to his post, “Should you also exercise? Of course!”“Just don’t do what I once did: 90 minutes of exercise a day, six days a week, on a low-fat, high carb, low-calorie det. I was still fat at the end of it because I did not understand that what you eat is more important than how much you eat and also more important than how much you exercise.”Indeed, despite the whole spiel that suggests a low-calorie diet is a one-way ticket to weight loss, if those calories are still bad quality calories, then you’re not going to get the results you’re after.

There is an alternative method to reducing body fat, too, which you might like to learn about, that also increases muscle mass at the same time (if done right). The answer: eat more. Though counter-intuitive, it’s something this writer can attest to, having put myself through an incredibly high calorie diet akin to Chris Hemsworth, but it is also backed up by Dr Gabrielle Lyon. While adopting this method of a high-calorie diet and exercise, naturally, needs to include an effective weight-training program, it will ultimately result in you shedding fat, and looking better than ever. You also have to eat good foods for it to work.Dr Lyon has previously said how muscle is the largest organ in the body and should be properly looked after.

“You have to correct metabolic composition first, by correcting and making sure you have healthy muscle tissue, the weight will come off.”

“But by focusing on the weight loss, the quick fix, the fasting even, it’s not about the amount of weight you lose, it’s about the quality. So every time you lose weight for the most part you lose partially muscle tissue and partially fat tissue.”“But if you do it strategically, the majority of of the weight can just be fat.”There have also been claims that low-carb diets can actually be quite hard to follow and stick to, since they can be quite restrictive. So, by removing them from our diet, we could be at risk of actually eating more poor quality food, if we end up still feeling hungry.RELATED: The Satiating Diet Could Be Your Ticket To Burning Fat Faster Than Lebron JamesThe Satiating Diet – one comprising healthy foods that create feelings of fullness and satisfaction – could in fact be your best form of attack in the battle against weight loss. The diet you adopt will ultimately depend on your goals, but for many, removing carbs from your diet could be the easiest, most attainable option. Just find what works for you.

Timothée Chalamet Shines Bright Like A Diamond At Cannes Film Festival

The 74th Annual Cannes Film Festival is shaping up to be one of the most stylish in recent memory. The world’s most prestigious film festival was cancelled last year thanks to The Spicy Cough, and it seems attendees have really upped the ante sartorially to make up for missing 2020.First, we had Spike Lee, this year’s Cannes jury president, roll up in an amazing neon pink Louis Vuitton number. Then, French actor Nicolas Maury wowed the crowds in a gender-bending Lanvin pantsuit. And of course, there were plenty of dapper tuxedos from the likes of Adam Driver, Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson, just to name a few.But the outfit that really stole the show was Timothée Chalamet’s. The 25-year-old American actor, best known for his leading performances in Call Me By Your Name and Dune, rolled up to the red carpet on Monday wearing a remarkably lustrous silver Tom Ford suit that immediately caught the eyes of fellow attendees (and the world’s cameras).Chalamet paired the glittering suit with some white patent leather Chelsea boots, a mandarin-collared shirt and a pair of Celine sunglasses.

I Tried Greg Norman’s Most Radical Fitness Advice. It Blew My Mind
I Tried Greg Norman’s Most Radical Fitness Advice. It Blew My Mind

Every now and then, it’s good to deviate from the norm – whether it’s something on a smaller scale such as pairing a rich, heavy red with a light chicken salad (the audacity!) or something much larger such as supporting a sports team that isn’t of your home city (treason!).For myself, being someone who genuinely enjoys going to the gym, a place dedicated to all things fitness and bettering yourself – and most importantly, well-lit – I recently decided to follow some advice given by famed Australian golfing legend, Greg Norman. The Great White Shark is regarded as royalty within the world of golf, having won numerous tournaments, before becoming an equally successful entrepreneur. He also, for a man of his age, is still in remarkably great shape. At 66 years of age, Norman can still comfortably keep up with much of Instagram’s youth in the photogenic stakes, looking, dare I say, incredible. There’s a reason that beach photo went so viral, after all…So what’s the secret to his fitness success? According to one comment he made in June, it could be working out in the dark.

“Sometimes in the winter time, I’ll turn out all the lights and turn the music up loud and I’ll work out in the dark.”

Sure, there are more radical methods when it comes to anything fitness-related. Retired US Navy SEAL David Goggins is constantly one to promote the idea that you need to be pushing your body to its absolute limits if you really want to taste success, previously saying, “Sometimes your motivation needs to be that no one else wants to do it.”But as someone who regularly enjoys working out in the daytime, in lit conditions, could I be convinced working out in the dark is a far greater way to achieve my gains? The short answer. Yes, and no [watch me find out in the video below].

Greg, with his riches, has a full home gym within which he can work out in peace, telling readers of his website that he’ll often “do a complete body workout, a full two hours. I do a full 40 minutes of cardio, where I’m on an elliptical. Sometimes I’ll break that down to 30 minutes on an elliptical or 10 on a Versaclimber, or 15 minutes of sprinting on a Versa or climbing, 15 seconds of flat out and rest for 45 seconds; that’s how I start my routine.”“If I want to do a full-body workout with every machine, it takes close to 90 minutes. I do three sets of 12 to 24 depending upon the exercise. Sometimes I’ll do really heavy weights where I do three sets of 12 bicep curls of 55 or 60 pounds.”

“The next day I might take a 25 pound weight and do a static weight, where I do very slow motion, half curl up, half curl down, then half curl, then total curl. It takes a lot; it’s a different way of burning out your muscle.”

This already is more than I would put myself through at my gym. I’m not a cardio fan in the slightest, especially during my current training program, which is seeing me attempting to bulk up through a combination of strength and weight training, and a high-calorie diet.RELATED: ‘I Ate Like Chris Hemsworth For 4 Months. It Nearly Broke Me’So, for the purposes of this experiment, I armed myself with a 10kg dumbbell and a conveniently timed video posted by my Sydney-based PT Bronte Zeiher (because, as she says, “if you’ve got a dumbbell, then you’ve got a gym”). I then switched out the lights in my bedroom, turned up the music, and put myself to work.It should be noted that I have very forgiving housemates, who didn’t mind me turning the volume of the music up so I could workout in my own personal nightclub – something of a trend here in Australia. But if you are to try this workout yourself in the same conditions, it’s best you let those you live with know your plans, first.RELATED: ‘Gyms Are The New Nightclubs’: Pandemic Sparks Australian Exercise RevolutionPerforming this workout in the dark didn’t initially strike me as having any monumental effect compared to working out during the day. There are certainly cases to be made for working out in the morning/during the day, compared to the evening and vice versa. I’m definitely in the former camp, preferring to get my exercise done early to give me energy for the rest of the day – although, not quite as early as the 2 a.m. wake up for Mark Wahlberg and The Rock.RELATED: Fitness Coach Reveals The Real Difference Between Morning & Evening WorkoutsIt was a nice change to get my fitness fix once the sun had gone down, however, and to be able to work to a slightly slower pace. Not being confined to a one hour window before getting back to my desk meant I didn’t need to give it the full beans, and I could put even more focus into my form and reaping the full benefit of every single rep.I was also surprised to find I wasn’t overly energised once I put the dumbbells to rest, even with some decidedly Defcon-style music blaring out of my laptop. Perhaps the darkness outside was still enough of a trigger for my brain to say it’s getting close to bed time, causing my body to naturally wind down.It was also, rather surprisingly, nice to workout in the comfort of my own home. I’m someone who has become naturally confident in the gym, having previously felt intimidated by the usual influx of vainglorious workout warriors you see at every gym up and down the country. But to do things by myself where nobody could cast a potentially judgemental eye, was comforting. Also, in the current global climate, it was nice to not have to workout with a mask.So yes, I did see plenty of benefits to working out in the dark à la Mr Norman, but taking into account my personal circumstances, i.e. only a pair of dumbbells to play with, going full turkey on the Iron Paradise and ripping up my membership so I could workout in the dark at home, isn’t something I’m prepared to do just yet.If you have the luxury of your own home gym, however, then it’s definitely a tactic I wholeheartedly recommend you try. It might even blow your mind…

Italian Sommelier Resurrects Long Lost Method Of Wine Opening…Using $15,000 Bottle Of Pétrus
Italian Sommelier Resurrects Long Lost Method Of Wine Opening…Using $15,000 Bottle Of Pétrus

Opening a bottle of wine isn’t always as easy as diving straight in with a corkscrew and yanking with all your might. We’ve all been at a party where someone’s tried to open a bottle of sparkling and instead created a Formula One podium-esque geyser… Or straight-up dropped the bottle. But the stakes get even higher when you start talking about expensive vintages. They say you shouldn’t cry over spilt milk but if someone fumbled a bottle of Château Lafite Rothschild there’d be more than a few tears. That’s why many high-end restaurants and experienced sommeliers are reviving a rather effective – and dramatic – method of opening expensive bottles of wine that makes sabrage (i.e. opening a bottle with a sword) look like child’s play. Enter: port tongs, a.k.a. ‘the wine torture device’.Watch this sommelier at the three Michelin-starred Florentine restaurant Enoteca Pinchiorri open a bottle of 1961 Château Pétrus – a highly regarded Bordeaux worth around $15,000 – with port tongs.

Here’s how you open a $15,000 bottle of 1961 Pétrus

Why go to such lengths instead of just using a corkscrew? Simple: port tongs keep the cork intact. The problem with corks is that after a long period of time, they gradually disintegrate and rot – if you tried to open such an old bottle of wine, there’s a good chance the cork would crumble into the wine, spoiling it.RELATED: Australian Winemaker Creates Vintage Drop Even The Ancient Romans Would Be Impressed ByNeedless to say, it also looks really cool – and takes a fair amount of skill to do effectively. If the neck doesn’t break cleanly, you can end up with glass shards in your expensive wine, which is arguably even worse than crusty cork chunks.Port tongs were first invented by the Portuguese in the 18th century, and as the name implies, were developed in order to open bottles of port wine. The tongs are heated over an open flame and clamped against the neck of a bottle for 20–30 seconds. The neck is then cooled with a damp cloth or ice water, causing the glass to fracture – hence the saying, ‘crack a bottle open’.Speaking of cracking some wine open, ever considered cracking open a can of wine? We explore why Australia’s ‘no glass, no class’ attitude towards vino could be damaging our wine industry.

American Airlines’ Revealing Outfit ‘Ban’ Exposes Broader Industry Issue
American Airlines’ Revealing Outfit ‘Ban’ Exposes Broader Industry Issue

The War On Activewear continues to rage. Whether it’s furious business class passengers getting purple faced over shorts and leggings in Sydney’s Qantas lounge or influencers being banned from American Airlines flights for wearing a crop top and denim shorts, the chasm between those who fear midriffs and those who like to rock them doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon.Enter: Deniz Saypinar, a Turkish fitness model and Instagram influencer with 1 million followers, living in the US. Ms Saypinar says she was banned from boarding an American Airlines flight on the 8th of July because airport authorities found her outfit offensive [see video below].

The 26-year-old bodybuilder was supposed to fly from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Texas to Miami, but was forced to wait “until morning” after flight attendants found issue with her clothes.“You will never believe what happened to me at Texas Airport,” Ms Saypinar said on Instagram. She said she was told she was “naked” and her style “disturbed other families.”Ms Saypinar rejected this, saying: “I am not naked.”She took to Instagram to give her side of the story – and to give American Airlines a piece of her mind.“I am an athlete, and now I have to wait here until the morning,” she wrote.

“I like to wear feminine clothes that reveal my femininity, but I never dress in a way that will offend anyone. I’m mature and civilised enough to know what I can and cannot wear.”

“I don’t deserve to be treated like the worst person in the world for wearing denim shorts. What separates us from animals if humans can’t control even their most primitive impulses,” she added.Ms Saypinar also showed her fans her outfit – a brown crop top, denim shorts and trainers, as well as a white blouse tied around her waist.

“It is 2021, and there is still a dress code you have to follow to board a plane, of course, only if you are a woman. This is ridiculous,” a follower said in response to her post, Yahoo News reports. Also according to Yahoo News, another Instagram user wrote: “Teach society to respect women, rather than telling women what to wear or what to do.”A screenshot of an article published by The Independent, posted by Ms Saypinar on her Instagram story, states that American Airlines “don’t know their own policies” and that the policies are “deliberately vague.”

American Airlines, in a statement, has said: “On 8 July, American Airlines denied boarding for a customer travelling from Dallas-Fort Worth to Miami. As stated in the conditions of carriage, all customers must dress appropriately and offensive clothing isn’t permitted on board our flights.”

“The customer was advised of our policy and was rebooked on a subsequent flight. The customer has since arrived in Miami.”

Ms Saypinar has been working as a personal trainer for seven years and was the first non-US citizen to win the US National Bikini Fitness Competition in 2021, Yahoo News reports.Yahoo News also reports that Ms Saypinar recently moved to Los Angeles to advance her bodybuilder career and experience freedom.Maybe the US isn’t as free as it likes to think?

Formula One Star Lando Norris’ Richard Mille Watch Stolen At UEFA Euro 2020 Final
Formula One Star Lando Norris’ Richard Mille Watch Stolen At UEFA Euro 2020 Final

Many English football fans felt robbed after the UEFA Euro 2020 final yesterday. But for one Englishman, the game was an actual robbery.Lando Norris, Formula One driver for McLaren and currently fourth in the 2021 driver standings, was the victim of a mugging after the high-pressure match, the young racer having his Richard Mille watch stolen.McLaren released a statement a few hours ago confirming “that Lando Norris was involved in an incident, after the Euro 2020 final match at Wembley, during which the watch he was wearing was taken.”

“Thankfully, Lando was unharmed but he is understandably shaken. The team is supporting Lando and we are sure that racing fans will join us in wishing him all the best for the British Grand Prix this weekend.”

According to The Sun, ticketless fans who had stormed the stadium ambushed Norris as he was getting into his McLaren GT supercar: one held him down while he was behind the wheel whilst the other ripped the watch off his wrist.

McLaren didn’t provide further details about the watch, but our best guess is that it was probably the custom Richard Mille RM 67-02 Norris was spotted wearing during the Austrian Grand Prix just over a week ago. Norris shared a photo to Instagram after the match where you can just about glimpse the blue band of a Richard Mille watch. The RM 67-02 ‘Automatic Extra Flat’ is one of the thinnest timepieces the high-end Swiss watchmaker makes, with the brand creating different colourways of the watch to celebrate different athletes. Fellow F1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen have their own signature colourways, as well as Olympic alpine ski racer Alexis Pinturault and track and field sprinter Wayde van Niekerk.RELATED: Daniel Ricciardo Hits The Big Time With $1.2m Richard Mille WatchNorris’ seems to be an as-of-yet unreleased colourway, or perhaps it’s a one-off especially made for him, so it’s hard to put a price on the watch – but it would easily be worth over AU$100,000. Or even add another zero to that. Richard Mille is one of the McLaren F1 team’s major sponsors, and they even make a McLaren signature model, the RM 50-03.

Of course, it’s a shame that the watch got stolen, but our thoughts are with Norris. Being robbed in such a confronting way like that must have been scary, and we hope he’s not so shaken up that it will affect his performance at the upcoming British Grand Prix this weekend.RELATED: Tragedy Strikes At Historic Grand Prix In MonacoEnglish football fans have been lambasted for their poor behaviour both before, during and after the UEFA Euro 2020 final. UEFA fined England after fans booed the Danish national anthem and shone a laser pointer in Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s face during the semifinals, ABC News reports.Since Italy’s victory, some English fans have subjected the black members of their team to horrendous racist abuse online, blaming them for their loss, Reuters elaborates.

‘Superyacht Of The Savannah’: World First Luxury Concept Leaves The World Stunned
‘Superyacht Of The Savannah’: World First Luxury Concept Leaves The World Stunned

Italy has a lot of feathers in its cap: the leaning tower or Pisa, the Colosseum, St Marks Cathedral; pizza. France, likewise, has more tourist attractions than you can throw a Michelin star (or historical tour guide) at.

They may now both have another accolade to add to their resumes, however – ultra-refined long distance rail travel. Now: before you throw your pirated copy of Spectre at our heads and inform us trains were an antiquated form of getting around, think again.

A lot has changed since a few years ago.

We’ve seen a pandemic, and the Greta Thunberg Effect is in full swing, with many travellers now opting for closer-to-home holidays that commit less carbon to their footprint.

As CNN Travel reports, “Various new trains and routes are currently in the pipeline, including Italy’s ‘Dolce Vita train,’ set to run 10 routes through the country’s most well-known landscapes, and Midnight Trains, an upcoming network of overnight services from Paris to 12 different European destinations.”

On that note, French designer Thierry Gaugain wants to take things a step further. He “plans to take the rail travel experience to a completely new level with his latest concept, a private luxury train made to measure for one lucky, and very wealthy, owner,” (CNN Travel).

The superyacht of the savannah, if you will…

“Gaugain, who has worked with renowned designer Philippe Starck across countless projects, is known for his impressive yacht designs, including Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’ 80-meter vessel Venus, but this is his first attempt at conceptualizing a train,” CNN Travel explains.

“Described as a luxurious ‘palace on rails,’ the 400-meter long train will be made of 14 cars and glass so technologically advanced that it can switch from opaque to complete transparency,” CNN Travel reports.

Our take? It’s like a modern-day Versaille palace. But instead of Marie Antoinette, you have Big Tech Bros. The only thing it’s missing is a dog(e) drawn carriage for Elon Musk…

The train is envisaged at this stage for one specific owner. But if the trend took off, who’s to say it won’t be the next Sailing Yacht A for billionaires around the world?

The concept has split opinion on Twitter.

Underneath the heralding of the news on Twitter, some users saw the idea as positive (“a reminder that so many seem to have forgotten – the journey is the destination”) while others were more sassy (“Ah yes the old ‘we need trains to shuttle people to work and then a rich guy said ‘but what about me and my friends?'”).

One Twitter user channelled their inner revolutionary, writing: “Can’t have a peasant uprising on your Snowpiercer if there are no peasants allowed.”

Gaugain reportedly envisioned the billionaire Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, as a potential user of the train, when he came up with the idea.

For the time being though he has yet to find a customer and admitted to CNN Travel he may need to find “someone as crazy” as himself to buy the train, which will likely cost around $350 million. The project will take at least two and a half years to build, too, he has said.

According to CNN Travel, the train will fit around 18 overnight guests, will run at 160 kilometres per hour and will be adapted to run on railways across both the Americas and Europe. It will also have the ability to split in two so guests can see different attractions and meet up further down the track.

Investment Expert Reveals His Smartest Pick Of The Crypto Bunch
Investment Expert Reveals His Smartest Pick Of The Crypto Bunch

Cryptocurrencies have been around for a while now, but it’s really been the last twelve to eighteen months where we’ve seen crypto become mainstream – especially in Australia. Now, every man and his dog (or should that be doge?) is talking about cryptocurrencies (or grimacing as others do), even if they haven’t ever bought or transacted with one.Much of that can be chalked down to the bizarre economic conditions we find ourselves in. The Spicy Cough is still wreaking havoc on Australia thanks to our very slow vaccine rollout, and it’s been a slim year for many Aussies.Despite this, the Australian property market continues to go from strength to insane strength, and interest rates remain historically low. At the same time, the stock markets – particularly US markets – are as unpredictable and overheated as ever. No wonder investing in crypto’s become so big, then. While taking a punt on ‘shitcoins’ has become increasingly popular (and increasingly risky, as we recently discovered the hard way), the granddaddy of all cryptocurrencies – Bitcoin – is widely considered the go-to coin to invest in, especially for newcomers to crypto. But should Bitcoin be the first port of call for crypto investors? There’s a growing argument that Ethereum, the world’s second-most popular cryptocurrency, is the way of the future.

Ethereum founder and computing prodigy Vitaly Dmitriyevich “Vitalik” Buterin. Earlier in May, he donated $1 billion worth of the cryptocurrencies Shiba Inu and Ether to a COVID-19 relief fund in India. Image: Getty via CNN
But what is Ethereum? Strictly speaking, Ethereum is the name of the blockchain, and Ether is its native cryptocurrency. Generally speaking, people just use the name Ethereum to refer to Ether. First proposed in 2013 by Russian-Canadian programmer Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum went live on 30 July 2015, six years after Bitcoin first went live. The biggest difference between the two is that Ethereum is a software platform which is powered by Ether, whereas Bitcoin is purely a currency/store of value. As Investopedia relates, “Ether was intended to complement rather than compete with bitcoin, but it has nonetheless emerged as a competitor on cryptocurrency exchanges.”Buterin’s motivation behind creating Ethereum was his belief that Bitcoin and blockchain technology could be useful for more than just money. In 2021, the Ethereum blockchain powers everything from enterprise software to banking ledgers and, perhaps most topically, non-fungible tokens (NFTs).RELATED: ‘Is Kim Kardashian The New Picasso?’: How NFTs Will Change The World Of ArtEthereum’s not just a better horse to back because it has more applications than Bitcoin. One of the biggest problems with cryptocurrencies is that they’re not very good for the planet – but Ethereum has a solution on the horizon.
A wind farm off the coast of Fujian Province, China. Most of the world’s crypto mines are based in China, despite the government’s crackdown on the practice. China has invested heavily in renewables, but most of the country’s energy comes from coal-fired power plants. Image: CTG
Mining, storing and transacting with cryptocurrencies consumes an enormous amount of electricity, and the reality is that the vast majority of electricity generated globally comes from non-renewable sources. According to Digiconomist, a single Bitcoin transaction has the same carbon footprint as 1,140,542 Visa transactions or 85,767 hours of watching YouTube.“Ethereum, however, is making moves to make the technology more energy-efficient,” The Motley Fool’s Katie Brockman relates.

“Ethereum 2.0 is an updated version of the blockchain that’s set to roll out later this year or early next year, and it claims to use 99.95% less energy than the current technology. When Ethereum becomes more energy-efficient, it could acquire a competitive advantage in the crypto industry and a leg up over Bitcoin.”

Another big advantage of Ethereum is that it’s not as easily manipulated as Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, James Whelan, Investment Manager at VFS Group in Sydney tells DMARGE.“Elon Musk’s tweets are moving the market… if one guy’s Twitter account can shift an entire market, you probably don’t want to invest in that market… It’s frequent flyer points on crack.”

“If you want to be in the crypto market, and you want to be in a less manipulated market and you want to be in a market that isn’t constantly attempted to be shut down by by governments, I’d probably look at Ethereum.”

A quick reality check is needed, however. Ethereum, like Bitcoin and all cryptocurrencies, is still a highly volatile and unpredictable investment opportunity, now more than ever. Forbes‘ Billy Bambrough relates that Ethereum (and Bitcoin) could be “in danger” thanks to China’s crackdown on crypto miners, which is compelled many Chinese miners to dump their coins. But if you believe in the future of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology – or you’re just looking to invest in something other than Bitcoin or Dogecoin – Ethereum might just be what you’re looking for.

Post Malone Does The Unthinkable With $1 Million Rolls-Royce SUV
Post Malone Does The Unthinkable With $1 Million Rolls-Royce SUV

Post Malone’s got form when it comes to putting Rolls-Royces through the ringer. The music video for his break-out hit single, White Iverson (which currently boasts a healthy 915 million+ views on YouTube) notably featured a rented Rolls-Royce Ghost doing doughnuts in a dusty paddock. Now, it seems the rapper’s back up to his old tricks. On Friday, Post released a new track titled Motley Crew, his first single as lead artist since 2019. The song dropped alongside a lavish music video directed by Cole Bennett, which features guest appearances from fellow rappers such as Tyga, Ty Dolla $ign, Big Sean and French Montana, among others. The clip, shot at the Auto Club Speedway in California, sees Post race his customised Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge – reportedly worth over AU$1 million – against a fleet of NASCAR stock cars, the huge luxury SUV outfitted in NASCAR-style decals and Post himself wearing a NASCAR-style race suit.Doing doughnuts with a Ghost is one thing, but thrashing such a huge, expensive car around a NASCAR ring is a whole other level of extravagance. The Cullinan – like virtually every Rolls-Royce – is not a performance car per se. Rolls-Royce always describe the performance of their cars as ‘adequate’; luxury is the primary focus of a Rolls. That said, it’s interesting comparing the performance specs of a Cullinan versus your typical NASCAR stock car.RELATED: I Was Chauffeured To Work In The Latest Rolls-Royce & It’s Ruined Me For LifeRolls’ luxury SUV weighs 2,660kg and is powered by a 6.75L twin-turbo V12 making 420kW. Despite that hefty kerb weight, that’s actually fairly comparable to a NASCAR Cup Series Generation 6 car, which weighs around 1,500kg and is powered by a 5.86L naturally-aspirated V8 making between 410 and 559kW, depending on the track (longer tracks require the cars to be detuned). It’s impressive that a NASCAR car can wring so much power out of such an engine – but it’s equally impressive that the Cullinan can actually keep up.Post has owned his Cullinan since 2019, which features a black exterior and a blindingly neon yellow interior. Not quite as gaudy as Kylie Jenner’s, but pretty close.
