Looks can be deceiving and that’s certainly the case for the newly unveiled 2018 BMW M5, the German marque’s fastest M-car to date.Extra power and an updated drivetrain marks the cornerstone of the sixth generation model with a big 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 448kW (600hp) and 780Nm of torque. That’s a substantial increase over the outgoing model but it’s the drivetrain that will cause a bit of controversy with the BMW purists. For the first time ever, the M5 is an AWD machine which uses a drivetrain called the M xDrive. The reason for stepping away from the brand’s heralded RWD platform is simply because the power and performance figures are getting too big (and fish tails out of the car park is often frowned upon). It’s not all bad news though. The new M5 starts up in AWD mode with traction control turned on. Once a driver gets going they can change the driving mode to their liking – including full RWD mode with traction control off.Whilst the extra weight of an AWD drivetrain might deter some, it may ultimately be the transmission which polarises the M-car fans. The 2018 M5 will only come with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with no plans for a manual version.Alas, what it does lack in driver involvement it makes up for in speed. Because of its latest tech advancements, the M5 can sprint from 0-100km/h in a staggering 3.2s, beating out the M4 CSL’s claimed 3.8s. Hold onto your seats, children.

International watch boutique Watches of Switzerland is celebrating its 20th anniversary in style with an exclusive version of their very own IWC Pilot’s Chronograph timepiece.
The relationship between IWC and Watches of Switzerland has been a long and illustrious one, having been the original distributor for IWC in Australia right up until Richemont took ownership of the brand in 2000.
For that very reason, Watches of Switzerland teamed up with IWC for 50 pieces of the iconic Pilot’s Chronograph. Set in a 43mm stainless steel case, the piece features a black dial with patina coloured Superluminova-coated hands and indices for a vintage aesthetic.
A small seconds counter sits at the 9 o’clock mark whilst a day and date window sits at the 3 o’clock mark. Two extra sub-dials at 12 and 6 o’clock act as 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters. Driving all of this is the proven IWC 79320 Calibre, a self-winding chronograph movement which boasts a power reserve of 44 hours.
On the caseback, there’s specially engraved markings which highlights the watch’s number in the limited series.
Rounding out the watch nicely is a brown calf leather strap expertly crafted by Italian leather house Santoni.
The Watches Of Switzerland IWC Pilot’s Chronograph timepiece is now available exclusively via Watches of Switzerland for AU$7,950.

Gather your collective distractions and bring them right over to our weekly hit of the world’s most pointless and awesome facts. From the truths of being a male sex worker to some of the weirdest fried chicken flavoured foods you’ll find, this is where peak procrastination parties in style.
Women Prefer The Smell Of Men Who Eat Fruit & Vegetables
Men, prepare your bananas and cucumbers – whoa there, it’s not what you think. A study from psychology researchers at Macquarie University has found that men who employ a diet of fruit and vegetables smell more attractive to women when compared to those who have a high-carb, high-fat diet.
That’s right, what you eat could have a direct correlation to your sexual attractiveness for the opposite sex. According to the study’s co-author, Dr Ian Stephen, it’s true and it makes total evolutionary sense.
“We’ve known eating fruit and vegetables makes you look more attractive,” says Stephen, who specialises in evolution, genetics and psychology. The secret lies in fruit and vegetables which contain yellow/red pigments and carotenoids which in turn supports the human immune system and reproductive system.
“They get deposited in the skin and give us a slightly golden colour that makes us look more attractive. We also knew that odour is important for attractiveness too. Especially women smelling men, odour seems to be particularly important,” added Stephen.
“People who have genes that are good for your immune system tend to be perceived as smelling better…in the literature there has been a whole load of thinking around whether these immune genes are particularly valuable for women, so it’s possible that women are particularly sensitive to the way men smell because of this reflection of genes.”
The team tested this very theory by taking 43 non-smoking caucasian men between 18 and 30 who had their dietary intake and skin pigmentation measured. The yellow components of a subject’s skin colour would be an indicator to what fruits and vegetables they’ve been eating. The men were then ordered to wear white T-shirts for 24-hours without deodorant and sent for a run before coming back with sweat patches. The underarm portions were then cut out and given to 10 brave females to smell and rate.
What they found was that men who ate more fruit and vegetables gave off a more pleasant floral smell than those who went for carb-heavy foods and emitted a musty smell. Oddly enough, the study also found that men who ate a lot of fish smelled less attractive to those who were on a diet of meat, eggs and tofu.
“Whatever you eat contributes to the chemicals that come out of your skin and the way you smell is essentially a product of the chemicals that come out of your skin through sweat and sebum,” explains Stephen.
“The bacteria that live on your skin then digest those chemicals – it’s essentially a metabolic output of the bacteria is what you smell and that is affected by what they eat.”
“Attractiveness is very closely related to health and if you want to improve how attractive you are there are things you can do about it and those are the same, boring things doctors always say which is eat some fruit and vegetables and do some exercise.”

There’s Now An App To Make Your Flatmates Pay On Time
No one really likes to be that guy who constantly nags a flatmate for their lay rent. Thankfully there’s now an app for that. Easyshare is a platform which automatically collects money and pays rent or bills on behalf of flatmates.
The app was created by John Bush, a man who experienced first hand what it was like to manage finances in a sharehouse.
“We saw an opportunity to simplify sharehouse living for millions of Australians by offering a smarter, safer and stress-free way to manage finances for housemates. Our pilot phase confirmed there was a real need for something like easyshare,” said Bush.
The process of Easyshare is rather straightforward. Sign up, invite housemates, add rent details and every housemate’s share along with their choice of payment. From there your only issue will be if your offending housemate doesn’t have money in their account. In such a case, the app will try to retrieve payments up to seven times with each one allowing the offender to switch payment accounts or cards. There’s also a group notification feature which lets all housemates know if a bill is overdue.

Truths & Facts Of Being A Male Sex Worker
Most of us have regular day jobs. For the remainder of us there are careers that involves getting paid for sex. The Sun went ahead and spoke to a few of these men about why they got into the industry and what are some of the little known truths about male sex workers.
Fact 1: “I was a uni student, he was married with kids. It lasted for three years and I easily made at least £600 every month. Paid off all my student loans and I’m now debt free!”
Fact 2: “The clients were usually wealthy, high-end women over 35 years of age. Oldest client I took on must have been around 55.”
Fact 3: “The most common requests would either be: Dinner at a fancy restaurant, followed by drinks in some VIP Lounge, followed by spending the night at her hotel room.”
Fact 4: “Being her date at an event, her showing you off to her friends, basically acting as her boyfriend for the night. Then spend the night at her hotel room.”
Fact 5: “Go directly to her hotel room, have sex, then leave. I didn’t have many weird requests, no pervy stuff.”
Fact 6: “I’m a male sex worker and porn performer in Australia that’s been doing this job full time for the past four-and-a-half years. I only see female clients. Looks wise, I see everyone. All ages, from 20 up until nearly 70. All body shapes and sizes. If you’re working as a sex worker and you’re discriminating based on looks you’re not going to be very successful.”
Why Everything Is Fried Chicken Flavoured
Everyone loves fried chicken (except vegos), but have you ever wondered why or when everything started becoming fried chicken flavoured? Self explanatory, really. Nonetheless, these are some of the craziest concoctions of fried chicken you can get to date. Think ice cream, beer and soda – all fried chicken flavour.
Fried chicken flavoured beer
Fried chicken afternoon tea
Fried chicken skin ice cream sandwich
Fried chicken ice cream
Buffalo wing soda
As for why fried chicken is riding the new hipster wave?
“Sometimes you’ve got to have fun: that’s the main reason we did it,” says Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø of Evil Twin Brewing. “But fried chicken is becoming a very cool thing to eat. Especially in the US: it’s so traditional that it’d be like people in the UK flavouring things with shepherd’s pies. That’s how exciting people find it.”

Unless you’re on The Biggest Loser, small changes are the secret to getting – and staying – fit.
Choosing modest adjustments over a total makeover makes healthy eating more manageable and sustainable over the long term, and cuts down on the feelings of deprivation that can thwart even the most dedicated diet.
That means you don’t have to give up your beloved gut bombs entirely if you’re trying to slim down and tone up, you just need a few ingenious hacks to make your meals delicious and nutritionally sound in equal measures. These 11 junk food alternatives are the secret to satisfying cravings while slashing calories.
Swap Greek Yoghurt For Sour Cream
Thick, rich, and tangy, Greek yoghurt is an excellent substitute for sour cream in dips, dressings, marinades, and baked goods, or as a healthier garnish for tacos, burritos, salmon, chili, and baked potatoes. A one-to-one swap can cut the fat in half while doubling your protein intake. Greek yoghurt is also packed with probiotics, calcium, potassium, vitamin D12.
Swap Cauliflower Rice For Rice
Some dishes necessitate a side of rice, but white rice is high-calorie and carbohydrate-dense, and has little nutritional value. Steal this swap from your Paleo and grain-free pals for a healthier alternative: cauliflower rice. Cauliflower rice is light, tender and fluffy, with just the right amount of rice-like chew. After pulsing cauliflower florets in a food processor (or grating them on a box grater), the “rice” can be used raw in salads or sautéed to accompany cooked dishes.
Swap Sparkling Water For Soda
From noble stalwarts San Pellegrino and Perrier, to hipster upstarts like Spindrift and La Croix, sparkling water is having a moment. Many of the most popular options contain no sugar or artificial ingredients, making them a smart swap for calorific soda when you’re craving carbonation. The extensive range of flavours available ensures your bubbles are never blah, even though they’re clocking in at 0 calories per can.
Swap Squash Noodles For Spaghetti
All carbs are not the enemy. It’s the ones in irresistible, nutrient-lacking packages you have to watch out for – which means pasta is on the shit list of almost everyone trying to lose weight. If Italian comfort food is your culinary weakness, you don’t have to nix the noodles altogether. Simply sub them for spaghetti squash or spiralised zucchini to create a low-carb, veg-heavy “pasta” dish that’s full of vitamins, minerals and filling fiber.
Swap Cacao Nibs For Chocolate Chips
Organic, raw cacao – the natural source chocolate – is a superfood containing a variety of unique phytonutrients and flavonoids with tonnes of health benefits. Unfortunately, the chocolates you pick up at the supermarket contain almost no cacao at all. Replace standard chocolate chips in desserts, granola, and trail mix with minimally processed cacao nibs to reap their fiber-packed, antioxidant-rich, sugar-free rewards.
Swap Mashed Cauliflower For Mashed Potatoes
It’s tough to beat a buttery bite of mashed potatoes when you’re in the mood for a hearty meal, but the good feels wear off quickly when it’s time to reckon with the day’s calorie intake. A better option is mashed cauliflower, a skinny starch that delivers a hefty dose of vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, pantothenic acid, and vitamin B6. Prepare it with almond milk instead of heavy cream, and season simply with grass-fed butter and sea salt.
Swap Veggie Crisps For Potato Crisps
Don’t turn up your nose at kale crisps just because they’re made from everyone’s favourite mockable health food. Kale is ultra low on calories and fat, but brimming with potassium, vitamin K, fiber, and iron. Bake the leaves in the oven to create a crispy, crunchy, flavourful, and good-for-you alternative to greasy potato crisps. Spinach and brussels sprouts can also be crispified, as well as sweet potatoes, chickpeas, zucchini, carrots, eggplant, and apples.
Swap Nuts For Croutons
A little crunch goes a long way in a salad, but the calories quickly add up when the crunch comes from croutons (and let’s not get started on the dried fruit, hunks of cheese, and pool of creamy dressing you’re adding). Croutons are bread without any of the fiber or whole grain goodness – just an easy way to add empty calories to your veggie plate. For a crunch that won’t derail your diet goals, try almonds or sunflower seeds.
Swap Baked Zucchini For Deep-Fried Chips
It’s hard to imagine a food pairing more iconic than a burger and chips, but the deep-fried finger food is doing you no favours. Instead, satisfy your salty cravings with a homemade veggie wedge of some kind. Oven-roasted sweet potato is a popular option, but for something more unexpected, coat zucchini strips in bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese and bake until golden and crisp.
Swap Cauliflower Crust For Pizza Crust
Versatile cauliflower is the true MVP of junk food alternatives. Not only is it a smart sub for rice and mashed potatoes, it’s also a low-calorie, gluten-free alternative to traditional white flour pizza crust. Break the cauliflower into florets and pulse in a food processor until fine. Cook your cauliflower “rice”, then wrap it in a clean dishtowel and squeeze until all excess moisture is gone. Make and shape the crust, bake, add toppings, bake again, and voila – you have the only pizza you won’t feel guilty telling your trainer about the next day.
Swap Greek Yoghurt For Cream Cheese
You won’t see cheesecake on any diet plans, but it’s possible to make this notoriously heavy treat into something slightly less likely to end in regret. Trade in some of the cream cheese for plain Greek yoghurt for a dessert that’s decadent but light (not to mention easier to make). Use honey and dates to sweeten slices in lieu of granulated sugar. You can even add a dash of protein powder to the crust to impress your musclehead mates.

If nothing makes your skin crawl like a cookie-cutter condo or a mass-produced McMansion, a new website is set to become your go-to for holiday rentals. Like Airbnb, PlansMatter offers a selection of homes available to rent. But unlike its famous predecessor, PlansMatter homes must pass one all-important test: they have to be extraordinary.Founded by a pair of architects, PlansMatter is a place for design enthusiasts and architecture lovers to find their next vacation destination. The duo explains their mission on the website:“When we plan our travel, we search for places to stay that are well designed and authentic. Places that will elevate our experience beyond keeping us warm and dry. Places that have architectural intention and a story to tell. Our goal is to make these places easily available for people to experience on their own.”The site features “architecturally significant” modern properties across the US, UK, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Austria, Denmark, Japan, and Germany. Each listing contains the expected info – like price, amenities, and number of bedrooms – along with features unique to PlansMatter. The profiles also provide floor plans, list any awards the home’s design has received, and include notes from the owners or architects about why and how the home was constructed.Should you wish to dive even deeper into your architecture enthusiasm, the site also boasts pages of architect bios with links to their properites available for rent.“Your experience of the architect completely changes if you’re allowed to stay in the architecture overnight,” says co-founder Scott Muellner. “It’s great to go to a museum or a public building designed by an architect you admire, but it’s a whole different experience to stay a week in that architect’s space. It’s not just taking a tour; instead of viewing art, it’s living with it.”Sound like your (expertly designed) cup of tea? The next generation BMW Z4 has been teasing punters for long enough and today it was leaked to the public ahead of its Concours d’Elegance Pebble Beach debut.
Given that the last Z4 model came out almost nine years ago, the anticipation for the Bavarian carmaker’s revamped roadster has been high – but not from those who you’d assume.
Whilst satisfying the design criteria for any performance-oriented German vehicle, the BMW Z4 G29 will play a wider role in forming part of the technical basis of Toyota’s fabled Supra badge, the Supra J29.
What you’re looking at here is the stunning result of a sportscar partnership between Germany’s BMW and Japan’s Toyota Motor Co due for arrival in 2018. The formula is simple – a long bonnet, a compact and focused cockpit, seating for two and a short rear section. All of this culminates in providing pure driving exhilaration for the lucky sod behind the wheel.
A closer look at the design reveals many striking features which hint at the car’s intention of speed and agility. There’s the mandatory fender vents which flow onto the side of the car’s heavily sculpted shoulders for a masculine stance.
There’s massive 20-inch wheels which likely won’t make it to production. There’s futuristic L-shaped tail lights which flow into the integrated spoiler and there’s a matte Frozen Energetic Orange hue which should attract the eyeballs at the launch event.
Even the cockpit of the Z4 Concept is a place of purpose and precision. Flat-bottom steering wheel complete with centre line indicator, paddle shifts, uncluttered controls, minimal distraction from electronics and a dedicated head-up display all play a part to ensure that a driver’s eyes can remain on the road.
It may be a concept for now but it’s certainly the best look yet at the next generation Supra under the skin of a BMW Z4.
Early reports have indicated that the vehicle will receive two engine options in the form of a turbo four-cylinder (B48) and a six-cylinder petrol engine (B58).
Looks like you’ve found your ten-second car.
