10 Best Beard Oils In 2022
10 Best Beard Oils In 2022

If you want to grow a fully, healthy beard, then you need to invest in some quality beard oil to help keep it looking its best. A beard is something a man can – and should – take great pride in. Being able to sprout a thick mane of facial hair (and keeping it tidy!) can not only completely transform a man’s look, but it can become somewhat of a hobby. The key to a good beard is regular maintenance. Now, we understand if guys feel a little too metrosexual investing in skincare products designed specifically for a beard, such as beard oil, but they really are essential! Beard oils are absolutely key in keeping your beloved facial hair in check, and more importantly, healthy, should you decide to have a proper crack at growing a beard. But what exactly are beard oils, what do they do and which are the best to buy? Allow us to explain all.

What is beard oil?

beardoilYou’ve almost certainly heard of beard oil before but you might not know exactly what it is, what it does, or why you need it. Well, let us enlighten you.Beard oils essentially act as a leave-in conditioner for your beard, moustache, and the skin underneath your facial hair as well. Most beard oils are made from natural oils that have long been used for moisturising and conditioning purposes, such as jojoba oil, argan oil, grape seed oil, and coconut oil, which are used to essentially replicate the natural oils your skin produces. They’re also occasionally given a masculine scent (unscented versions are available too) and can effectively replace an aftershave or cologne.

What do beard oils do?

whyoil“A beard oil is just the same as a moisturiser then?” you may be thinking, and in a way, yes a beard oil does act in a similar fashion. However, if you’re serious about growing a damn fine burly beard, we strongly recommend you look into beard oils as they have myriad benefits when compared to a run of the mill moisturiser.Beard hairs are thinner and wispier than the hairs on your head, making them much more prone to dryness and damage from day-to-day exposure to the elements (especially in cold winters). Beard oil helps to combat such factors by nourishing your facial fuzz in the same way conditioner does your hair. Not only does this help to keep it feeling softer to the touch, but it will also have your beard looking more full, healthy, and luscious.Another reason to invest in a beard oil is, as anyone who’s tried to grow a beard will passionately tell you, beards can get bloody irritating after a while. Beards and moustaches tend to suck the moisture out of your face like nothing else, and once you go past a certain length, no amount of moisturiser will help the inevitable itch that every avid beardsman must endure.Beard oil can help this, not only softening the hairs meeting your face, but leaving a moisturising layer of oil on the skin below to soothe it. They’ll make the inevitable itchy phase a whole lot more endurable. And don’t think it’s just the guys who are sporting full beard manes that need to use beard oil, as guys who choose to rock some stubble and a 5 o’clock shadows can benefit from it as well because the oil will still work to keep the skin underneath the stubble moisturised.Beard oil also generally smells awesome, making it a great, subtle alternative to cologne if you don’t want to get Eau de Parfum all up in your whiskers.

20 Best Trucker Jackets For Men
20 Best Trucker Jackets For Men

Schwarzenegger once famously entered a roadside diner and demanded a man’s clothes, boots, and motorcycle. He wasn’t trying to save the world. He was just after the man’s trucker jacket. As a staple piece in every modern luxury label today, we’re giving you some insight into the origins of the trucker jacket, what makes a good one, and who’s doing it right in the current menswear scene.

History of the trucker jacket

Partly a piece of Americana, partly utility wear, the trucker jacket has evolved from gritty working-class outerwear to an insider high-street staple. The origins of the trucker are hotly contested; although most armchair historians will tell you Levi’s started the party. Flash forward to today, and the trucker jacket is an iconic piece of American outerwear that every man should own.

Trucker Jacket FAQs

What's the difference between a trucker jacket and a denim jacket?

Trucker jackets are made with sturdy materials (which can be denim but doesn’t have to be exclusively denim; trucker jackets are also commonly made from corduroy or suede), a spread collar, and external flap chest pockets. A denim jacket differs because, as the name suggests, it’s always crafted with denim, and doesn’t have to feature the spread collar or chest pockets.

How do I style a trucker jacket?

Trucker jackets do tend to be on the casual side of men’s fashion, but they can be worn to smart-casual affairs depending on the trucker jacket itself. Trucker denim jackets should be worn with chinos in a neutral colour and a plain tee for a cool laid-back style, whereas trucker jackets made with corduroy or suede can be paired with pretty much anything - denim jeans, chinos, tees, shirts, etc.

TAG Heuer’s Most Expensive Watch Ever Is Also Its Most Avant-Garde
TAG Heuer’s Most Expensive Watch Ever Is Also Its Most Avant-Garde

Watches & Wonders 2022 is in full swing, and we’ve already seen some monumental releases: Grand Seiko’s mental constant-force tourbillon, Montblanc’s first-ever dive watch, a new Rolex GMT-Master II… But it’s TAG Heuer that’s had perhaps the biggest surprise of the show thus far.

The 162-year-old firm has unveiled a bevy of truly impressive releases: a return to ultra-capable dive watches with the Aquaracer Superdiver, their first-ever solar-powered watch in the Aquaracer Solargraph and a 2nd Carrera x Porsche, just to name a few. But it’s what they saved to last that has got the world talking.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma Tourbillon Nanograph is the most expensive watch the brand has ever released, retailing for a rather punchy AU$518,900. That’s a lot of money for a TAG – but considering just how unique and advanced this piece of horological art is, it’s actually quite a bargain.

Why a bargain? Because this watch is filled to the brim with diamonds, created and used in ways that have never been seen before in watchmaking. This is thanks to TAG’s innovative use of lab-grown diamonds. For example, see that dial? That’s not some finish or glass particles or something. That dial is completely made out of polycrystalline lab-grown diamonds. The crown? It’s one whole diamond. Those flecks on the case? You see where we’re going…

We’ve never seen diamonds used in this way before, and it’s completely captivating. Pictures don’t do it justice: this might just be the most eye-catching watch on the market right now.

This is some truly radical stuff that won’t just shift the perception of TAG as a brand, but lab-grown diamonds more broadly. Previously, lab-grown diamonds have been somewhat of a dirty word – despite the fact they’re far more ethical and often far more beautiful than natural diamonds…

But as the Carrera Plasma demonstrates, the real beauty of lab-grown diamonds is that they can be formed in shapes that would never occur in nature, creating something entirely new; unexpected; avant-garde.

“Lab-grown diamonds allow us to innovate and experiment with this exceptional material, and this opens up a new realm of possibilities for designers, watchmakers and engineers,” says TAG Heuer Chief Innovation Officer Edouard Mignon.

If all those diamonds weren’t luxurious enough, the Carrera Plasma also features TAG Heuer’s in-house Heuer 02 automatic tourbillon chronograph movement, which boasts a 65-hour power reserve and COSC certification. It’s also rather light on the wrist, thanks to its milled aluminium case and ceramic bezel.

There’s currently only one of these watches in existence – perched in the middle of the TAG Heuer booth at Watches & Wonders – but according to TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault, “more than one, but less than a dozen” will eventually be made. Better buy a lottery ticket…

Why Blokes Like Shane Warne & Steve Irwin Were So Damn Likeable
Why Blokes Like Shane Warne & Steve Irwin Were So Damn Likeable

It’s no secret that the recent and sudden death of Shane Warne left Australians, as well as people all around the globe, – including celebrities like Robbie Williams, Elizabeth Hurley and Ed Sheeran – absolutely devastated.

It was weirdly nostalgic – in the worst way possible – of when the news broke that Steve Irwin had passed away. The world, just for a moment, stood still in 2006 when it learned that Irwin had died from a stingray barb to the chest, and it did so again just a few weeks ago when Warnie suffered a fatal heart attack.

Obviously, this is because both Irwin and Warne were legends in their own right; Irwin was a famed zookeeper and TV personality who taught us that even the scariest of animals still deserve proper care and love, and Warne was a cricketing legend and is considered one of the greatest bowlers in history.

But, I’d argue, the public was also saddened by their deaths because the two Aussie blokes were just so damn likeable. Both possessed a certain charm that made them seem approachable and down to earth, despite their respective accolades.

Both Irwin and Warne were classic Larrikins; friendly, passionate about their work, happy to have a laugh and crack open a beer, authentically themselves (i.e. they clearly didn’t put on a ‘persona’ for the public) and a tad mischievous/cheeky.

They were both incredible fathers; so much so, that we – the public – are now invested in the lives of Bindi & Robert Irwin and Brooke, Summer & Jackson Warne.

They also loved their down to earth hobbies; Jackson Warne shared in a tribute to his late father that Warne loved playing poker and golf as well as watching football while eating pizza. Whereas, Irwin was purely fearless; he wrestled crocs and happily petted venomous snakes with a huge grin on his face.

Though they are both gone, neither will be forgotten not because of their impressive achievements (although, they’re certainly contributing factors) but mainly because of Irwin and Warne’s similar personality traits that made them both likeable – hell, lovable – not just in Australia, but around the world.

IWC Schaffhausen Has Made The Ultimate Green Watch
IWC Schaffhausen Has Made The Ultimate Green Watch

One of the biggest watch trends of the last 24 months has been green dials. Green is the colour of the moment in watches, and all the big players have been coming out with exciting, verdant takes on their most popular models: the OMEGA Speedmaster, the Panerai Luminor, the Patek Philippe Nautilus…

But now, at Watches & Wonders 2022, IWC Schaffhausen has released a timepiece that we reckon is the final word in green watches. It’s called the IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Edition “Woodland” – and while that might be a bit of a mouthful, it’s perhaps the best green watch ever made.

Not only is the Woodland Chrono’s case made out of 100% dark green ceramic, but its dial is also dark green, while its numerals and hour markers are printed in a lighter hue of green. It also has a matching green textile/rubber strap, whilst other hardware elements such as the chrono pushers, crown and back case are made out of matte black Ceratanium, IWC’s signature scratch-resistant, ultra-tough titanium/ceramic composite.

This is how you execute a green watch, people. Using a lighter shade of green for the indices as well as exercising restraint with some of the hardware… IWC are true artisans.

Indeed, their dedication to colour has seen the enterprising Swiss firm team up with Pantone to officially register ‘IWC Woodland’ as its own unique Pantone colour, a move they’ve also done with some of their other ceramic colours and Ceratanium.

Accompanying the show-stopping Woodland is another colourful ceramic chrono, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Edition “Lake Tahoe”. The Lake Tahoe – which IWC CEO Christoph Grainger-Herr jokingly dubbed ‘The Stormtrooper’ yesterday at Watches & Wonders – features a stark white ceramic case, matching strap, a black dial and steel hardware. Both the Woodland and the Lake Tahoe are limited editions of 1,000 pieces each.

“These new chronographs not only underscore IWC’s longstanding and extensive experience in the fields of in-house chronographs and advanced materials.  The white and green ceramic used for the cases also illustrates the current evolution of TOP GUN from a collection primarily focused on performance to a bold style statement and an expression of a distinct way of life,” Grainger-Herr elaborates.

They truly are style statements. It’s hard to overemphasise how innovative and simply different these two new watches are. In an industry dominated by increasingly vibrant colours and radical materials, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Edition “Woodland” and “Lake Tahoe” stand out from the pack.

We’re resisting the urge to make a joke about being green with envy…

NSW Bus Driver Arrested After Allegedly Letting A 16-Year-Old Boy Drive

A NSW bus driver has been busted after allegedly letting a 16-year-old boy drive his bus. The Daily Mail reports it happened three times, while 9 News says it happened “on and off” for two weeks. The Leader reports it happened on “several occasions.”

Police from Campsie, a suburb in Sydney’s south-west, had their suspicions raised after receiving reports the bus driver was letting the teenager drive while there were passengers on the bus. This happened a number of times between March the 10th and March the 27th, police reportedly allege.

According to 9 News, police visited a home in Menai at about 2pm yesterday, “where they arrested the 25-year-old bus driver.”

“He was taken to Sutherland Police station and charged with negligently moving/driving a vehicle and subjecting persons to risk,” 9 News reports. He has reportedly been given conditional bail and is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on April the 28th.

Cathay Pacific Poised To Break Record For World’s Longest Flight
Cathay Pacific Poised To Break Record For World’s Longest Flight

Cathay Pacific is preparing to launch the world’s longest flight. The Hong Kong based airline is re-routing its New York to Hong Kong service to avoid Russia (meaning it will now swing out over the Atlantic then swing back in). This blows out the distance travelled to 16,668km, which it plans to complete in 16 to 17 hours.

The news broke after Bloomberg reported on a memo sent to Cathay Pacific staff. A spokesperson for the airline has said Airbus SE’s A350-1000 can handle the journey.

At the time of writing, the world’s longest flight is Singapore to New York, which is run by Singapore Airlines, and is a distance of 15,349kms (though this one’s shorter in distance than the proposed Cathay Pacific flight, it is actually longer in time, taking, on average 17 hours and 31 minutes).

In any case, on Tuesday evening, Cathay Pacific listed its soon-to-be flight on its website for the 3rd of April.

Cathay Pacific is yet to comment on why they are changing the route now, having previously been flying over Russian airspace.

Cathay Pacific isn’t the only airline giving Russia a wide berth. Having to reroute flights is hurting a number of airlines’ bottom lines, including Finnair’s.

Before The Spicy cough took over the world in 2020, Cathay Pacific operated three return trips between New York and Hong Kong every day.

Demand is much lower now, with flights being cancelled all the time.

Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that Cathay Pacific was still in the process of “seeking overflight permits to operate the service, which it said was normal for a new route.”
