100-year-old marathon runner, Mike Fremont, set the fastest time for a marathon ever finished by a 91-year-old. He recently shared what he believes to be his secret to longevity in a podcast with Rich Roll.
“These, believe it or not, are the best years of my life.” You might not expect to hear that phrase out of the mouth of a centenarian, but that’s exactly what marathon runner Mike Fremont recently told author and podcaster Rich Roll.
Fremont, who was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at the age of 69, and reportedly given three months to live, turned to a plant-based diet in an attempt to help shrink the cancer. According to Runner’s World, Fremont reckons he shrunk the tumour with his new diet, before having surgery in 1994 to remove what was left of it.
“The tumor shrank over the next two years and finally I killed it by diet alone,” Fremont said, according to Runner’s World.
WATCH: Mike Fremont Explains His Secret To Longevity
Speaking to Rich Roll in a video recently posted to Instagram, Fremont says: “No question in my mind – it is diet that has determined my existence, my continual existence and my beautiful health.”
He added: “I don’t think I ever became competitive until I was 88. For my age, I’m practically number 1.”
Fremont’s elite ultramarathoner buddy Harvey Lewis has also posted about the amazing 100-year-old recently, sharing some interesting insights. He posted a photo of Fremont doing pull ups with the caption: “5 miles with my 100 year young friend Mike Fremont. Mike also did 10 pull-ups at one go!”
“Mike’s mindset is strong. He fell this past spring in Florida and hurt his hip. He was reduced to a wheel chair for a month. That was really tough especially for Mike whose always on the go. When he restarted he could only do 1 pull up. Mike credited his Plant Based nutrition with his speedy recovery even as a centenarian in getting back his distance and reps of pull-ups.”
“We finished our exercises and I asked Mike if he was done for the day. He said, I’ll probably do some more pull ups later at home.”
Harvey Lewis
What does Fremont’s diet look like? As he once claimed, according to Runner’s World in 2013: “No meat, no dairy products, no toxins.” Fremont’s diet mainly comprises veggies, fruit, whole grains, nuts and soups, plus a bit of vitamin D in winter. In that same 2013 article, Fremont said since he started eating this way he hasn’t had a cold and maintains the same weight as his university wrestling years.
Now that’s food for thought. Check out the full podcast with Fremont here.

A video doing the rounds on Instagram is the ultimate proof that you shouldn’t attempt to learn to ride a scooter in Bali, despite it being the best way to get around.
Bali isn’t necessarily the stress-free land of Bintangs, beautiful beaches and beach club resorts you’ve been led to believe. It’s a country with a thriving population whose primary mode of transportation is the humble scooter. Bali is a small country, with small roads, at least, once you get into the main populous areas such as Canggu. It’s in places like this where driving a car doesn’t make sense: they’re too big and you just end up getting stuck behind an army of scooters.
So, while it would likely be common knowledge for anyone travelling to Bali – although, to be honest, it wasn’t common knowledge to me before I went for the first time – a scooter is the only way to go. But, as one video posted by Instagram account The Canggu Pole shows, it’s probably wise that you have some idea of how to ride a scooter before you hand over some cash to rent one for the duration of your stay.
WATCH: Man’s Scooter Prang Shows Why You Shouldn’t Learn To Ride One In Bali
The video in question shows an inexperienced scooter rider setting off, only to lose control and crash into a car just seconds later. The caption for the video reads, “I’ll never get enough of this man Why would you try to learn ride a bike here in Bali?? Do people think the road is soft here or something.”
The majority of the comments were in agreement with the caption and in amazement at what the rider recorded in the video was doing. Even world champion surfer Kelly Slater commented (although they were more words of encouragement for people not having a clue what they’re doing when riding in Bali): “If these people didn’t ride scooters we’d never have these clips to watch,” he said.
One user spoke to the seriousness of inexperience “Literally everyone you meet here will try to convince you that it’s ‘super easy’ and ‘part of the experience’ to drive a scooter here. If you try to state facts like how many accidents happen every day, you’re just uncool or paranoid. This video should be played at immigration.”
I can personally sympathise with the scooter rider in the video. I’d never ridden a scooter before going to Bali (unless you count a fear-induced 500-metres in Ibiza in 2012) so admittedly, I was hesitant about getting on one again. But, as mentioned earlier, a scooter is the best way to get around Bali and so I decided to strap on a helmet and find out how hard it could be.

I did prefer going on the back and letting one of my friends ride, and I used the rather long path down to my villa for practice runs before getting out on the open road. The majority of the time I was ok, although on the odd occasion I was riding and one of my friends was at the back, I definitely felt a greater sense of fear. More so because I didn’t want to injure them and face ridicule on the plane journey home.
I did have an unfortunate meeting of my scooter and another one parked up outside a breakfast cafe, and of course, with my luck, the owner of said crash barrier scooter saw and came out. Fortunately, their scooter came off unscathed. I can’t say the same for the scooter second in line, that her scooter fell into. Oops.
I may have a different outlook to some others who think riding a scooter for the first time will be accident and worry-free. I feel like I personally don’t have much of an ego, so being able to say “I’m not riding one” or “I don’t know how so I’m happy for someone else to,” is pretty easy. But, if you do go to Bali and you want to hire a scooter for the first time, please think about taking some lessons either before you go or when you get there.
You wouldn’t want to end up on accounts such as The Canggu Pole where the entire world can see how much of a boob you are.

A 23-year-old American man has fallen into – and been successfully rescued from – the crater of Mount Vesuvius. He fell in, reportedly, while retrieving his phone, which was dropped taking a selfie.
A U.S. tourist recently learned the hard way why you shouldn’t take selfies on top of a volcano. The man, who is 23 years old, was visiting the famous volcano near Pompeii (they are 9km apart) along with two family members.
The family walked up Vesuvius from the nearby town Ottaviano and allegedly hiked to the top of Vesuvius via a trail with a small gate and a “no access” sign.
At the top of the volcano, which is over 1,219-metres-tall, the man tried to take a selfie and dropped his phone into the volcano.
“He tried to recover it, but slipped and slid a few meters into the crater. He managed to stop his fall, but at that point he was stuck,” the president of the Presidio Permanente Vesuvio, Paolo Cappelli told NBC News.
“He was very lucky. If he kept going, he would have plunged 300 meters [almost 1,000ft] into the crater.”
I have a list of “ things I don’t want to fall into, and that one is number 2, between alcoholism and a blast furnace
— Dr Egnor (@CletusAwreeetus) July 11, 2022

Fortunately, the man didn’t suffer any serious injury – only grazes and scratches. Unfortunately, Twitter has erupted with mirth, with comments ranging from “In his defense, who knew that falling into a volcano is bad??” to “if you ever get to go up to the edge of Vesuvius you should. It’s a really cool bus ride and usually a brisk walk. Falling into a volcano is ill-advised however, as Dante’s Peak taught me.” Another Twitter user sympathised, writing: “We will literally fall into Mount Vesuvius before losing our phones.”

Back to the tale at hand: tourist guides saw the incident from the other side of the crater and quickly went around to assist, helping the man out with a long rope.
The man was taken in by local police, but it remains unknown what, if any, charges he could be faced with. Another thing that could get the man in hot water is that, according to Huffington Post, the man and his family “had neglected to purchase [the] tickets… required to ensure there are a manageable number of hikers on the path.”

This isn’t the first time tourists have got themselves in a spot of bother by taking selfies. As we reported in 2019, tourists were warned not to take selfies in this creepy Czech chapel. Oh and in 2021 there was the incident where Chinese actor Zhang Zhehan highlighted the risk of selfie sightseeing in Japan. Wedding Cake Rock in Sydney has had issues with this too.
Maybe don’t do it for the gram?

One of the world’s biggest sporting events, the FIFA World Cup, is set to take place in November and December 2022 and will take place in Qatar. The 2022 FIFA World Cup marks the first time the global football tournament has taken place outside of the usual European summer months, owing to the extreme heat the Middle East will experience during the same period.
The Australian national soccer team, known as the Socceroos, have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2022 too, and have been drawn in Group D where they will face reigning champions France, Denmark and Tunisia. Australia was drawn against France and Denmark in the 2018 World Cup, along with Peru, but failed to make it out of the group stage.
So, how can you support the Socceroos and watch the World Cup in Australia in 2022? Read on to find out.
How to watch World Cup 2022 in Australia?

- SBS for all live matches
- Optus Sport for replays and highlights
SBS World Cup Coverage
In 2022, all FIFA World Cup games will be broadcast live on SBS, meaning you can watch all the football action for free. Up to 8 matches will be broadcast live at once, so you can select and choose which group stage matches you want to watch.
Thanks to the SBS app for mobile devices including smartphones and tablets, along with Mac and PC, you can watch all World Cup games wherever you go, just as long as you have an internet connection.
Optus Sport World Cup Coverage

Kayo Sports World Cup Coverage
Kayo Sports is another streaming service dedicated to sport that will also be streaming World Cup content. Kayo Sports doesn’t have rights to every single game, but you will be able to watch replays of selected matches. Kayo will also have other content, such as insights and analysis.
Kayo Sports can also be accessed via Telstra if you’re a customer with the mobile operator.
When is the 2022 FIFA World Cup?
- 21st November – Sunday 18th December 2022
The 2022 Fifa World Cup kicks off on Monday 21st November 2022 with host nation Qatar taking on Ecuador, England facing up against Iran, Senegal facing The Netherlands and the USA playing Wales.
Australia’s first match will be on Tuesday 22nd November at the Al Janoub stadium, where they will first play France.
Where is the 2022 FIFA World Cup?

The FIFA World Cup 2022 takes place in Qatar, making it the first time the football tournament has been held in the Arab world. Qatar has 8 stadiums to host the 64 matches. The final of the World Cup will be held at the Lusail Stadium, the largest in Qatar with a capacity of 80,000.
World Cup 2022 Groups

The 64 teams were drawn into 8 groups on 1st April 2022 in Doha, Qatar. These are how the groups line up ahead of the tournament.
Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands
Group B: England, Iran, USA, Wales
Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland
Group D: France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia
Group E: Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan
Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia
Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon
Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, Korea Republic
Canada qualified for the tournament for the first time since 1986 and Italy is perhaps the most notable absentee, having failed to get through the qualifying stages.
How hot will Qatar be during the World Cup?
Qatar is undoubtedly one of the hottest countries in the world. In summer, temperatures in Qatar can reach around 50 degrees Celsius, but in winter, when the World Cup takes place, temperatures will fall to around 26-28 degrees Celsius.
Group games will be played at 13:00 and 16:00 local time, which is when the highest temperatures are likely to be experienced by players, but when games reach the knockout phases, they will only be played in the evening.
World Cup 2022 knockout games will take place in December, which is officially Qatar’s winter. Average daily temperatures during winter in Qatar fall between 19-26 degrees Celsius.

Anyone who knows Taika Waititi will know how funny the Oscar-winning filmmaker – best known for directing Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder – is.
And anyone who follows Waititi on Instagram will know about his ‘Dads On Tour’ posts. If you’re unfamiliar, essentially Waititi hilariously documents his travels with his two daughters.
In the latest instalment of Dads On Tour, Waititi is heading to London with his children and they’re all about to board their plane.
At first, Waititi’s kids seem excited to be travelling; Te Hinekāhu, Waititi’s eldest daughter, says she’s feeling “good” and Matewa Kiritapu, Waititi’s youngest, smiles and waves to the camera.
WATCH: Taika Waititi’s latest ‘Dads On Tour’ post.
But then Waititi’s footage cuts to a close-up of Matewa looking very unhappy during the flight.
Waititi explains with the video’s caption that “she’s pissed ‘cause her tiny kid fingers can’t work the TV.” He also points out that she should “cheer up” because she’s in “BUSINESS CLASS [For f*ck’s sake]”.
Waititi finally notes that he’s “putting her in economy next time” before the camera spins towards him and he’s laughing heartily at how frustrated Matewa is with her in-flight entertainment.
Of course, Waititi probably won’t subject his kids to economy in the future, he’s just poking fun at how ridiculously hard it is to please kids sometimes.

Ryan Gosling has always been a snappy dresser, but his latest outfit is particularly refreshing – especially in this sweaty European summer.
Ryan Gosling, the normally fairly sombre 41-year-old Hollywood star decided to get a little playful with his outfit for the London premiere of his latest film, Netflix’s mega-sized spy thriller The Gray Man, donning a very pastel Gucci suiting look: a light blue jacket, white shirt, pink pants and off-white patent leather oxfords.
He contrasted this with a brand-new TAG Heuer Carrera ‘3 Hands’ watch; one of a few Gosling now has in his collection and the same watch he wears in The Gray Man.

Light pastel colours like this are great in summer, especially for smart casual elements such as blazers or trousers. It’s a way to be both dapper yet playful in the warmer months, and more men should get behind pastels.

He looks like he’s raided an ice cream parlour… But considering how hot the UK is right now, we’d say that’s a rather appropriate thing to do.
Of course, this isn’t the only colourful outfit Goslin’s been spotted wearing lately. Photos from the set of the new Barbie movie, where he plays the titular character’s (played by Margot Robbie) perennial boo Ken have emerged, showing Gosling rocking some outrageous neon-coloured fits.

Popular TikTok creator Victoria Elena has shared an alternative Italian holiday destination to Positano that you need to know: Santa Margherita Ligure.
As The Instagram Hordes stomp all over Amalfi and shirtless heathens strut their stuff in Sorrento (to the point where the town has banned bikinis after a moral panic over the “macabre procession” of tourists), there is a quieter part of Italy still waiting to be discovered (or as the case may be, desperately hoping it isn’t discovered…) That town? Santa Margherita Ligure.
This revelation was lugged at our noggins by TikTok user Victoria Elena. Victoria, who says she is an “Italian in London,” began her video (which has been viewed 1.4 million times) by explaining that she believes Positano, though it’s awesome, is now too crowded. She says that she would instead choose to go to Portofino – but there’s a catch.
WATCH: The Quieter Alternative To Positano AND Portofino
Rather than staying in Portofino – which is becoming overcrowded and expensive too – Victoria says you should stay at a town nearby to Portofino, like Santa Margherita Ligure or Rapallo, and walk ‘the red carpet’ (a coastal path built for getting between towns) to eat and drink in Portofino, before returning to your cheaper and more relaxed town to sleep.

“If you’re thinking of going to Italy these are the overhyped places to go in Italy and where I would go instead,” Victoria said.
“Tiny disclaimer,” she adds; “they’re not actually overhyped – obviously they are beautiful – but they are just so full of tourists the prices have become crazy. The locals don’t enjoy them anymore and if you go in peak season it’s going to become so crowded and crazy; you’re probably not going to have fun.”
“Number one, we have Positano,” Victoria continues. “It’s a beautiful location on the Amalfi Coast. But where would I go instead? This is Portofino, where I actually wouldn’t stay specifically here, I would stay further down the coast in Santa Margherita or Rapallo or even further.”
“So what they have is this… red carpet, which connects the coastal walk, which means that if you’re in one of the neighbouring towns, which are going to be cheaper, nicer; more fun, you can actually walk down the red carpet all the way to Portofino to have your dinner, drinks or your aperetivo and then you can just walk back.”
Victoria Elena
“I do this all the time and everyone does it. It’s super safe, you can do it at night and overall you can enjoy the view but you can stay a bit further out. If you know where to go, it’s also quite affordable.”

TikTok users commented things like “tourists trying to avoid tourists is the funniest thing to me” and “I find Portofino waaay more overhyped than Positano. Also the food in Positano is one step ahead.”
Another remark was: “I was in Positano in February a couple of years ago and it was magical. No people, empty beach, beautiful light.” Victoria responded: “Totally agree out of season is the time to go.”
RELATED: Amalfi Coast Destinations Only Locals Know About
Others pointed out you might be better off getting a bus, or renting a Scooter, as it’s a fair old walk from Santa Margherita or Rapallo to Portofino (it’s 19 minutes by car).

Other useful information shared in the comments included the fact that you can get a ferry from Rapallo to neighbouring places “and it’s way quicker then the walk!!” (to which Victoria replied: “Trueeee but ”) and that the walk from Santa Margherita to Portofino takes “+30 mins,” (according to Victoria).

Images on Instagram show a multitude of tourists living their best lives in and around the Portofino region, with many visiting Santa Margherita and Rapallo as well. It appears if your goal is to lounge about drinking, eating and swimming, you can easily do that in all three places – there’s no need to stay in Portofino just because it’s famous (unless you really want to and are prepared to pay more for the convenience).

Since publishing the video, Victoria has also commented: “Canceling this video now that the Kardashians are there.” So it appears America’s most famous family has at some point visited. Still: it’s got to be quieter than Amalfi. And if you find it not to your liking, there’s always something around that next bend…

Brad Pitt has never been afraid to push the envelope when it comes to style – and his latest look is a return to his best 90s form.
The 58-year-old Hollywood superstar donned a rather eclectic look on the red carpet for the Berlin premiere of his latest film, the raucous action-comedy Bullet Train, consisting of a brown linen jacket, pink linen shirt, tortoiseshell sunglasses, biker boots… And a brown linen skirt.
Firstly, that’s a lot of linen. Secondly, what a sick skirt. It’s a very bohemian look that Brad pulls off perfectly. Maybe he was hoping to get into Berghain after the premiere? Mega Schön.
Brad’s just the latest in a growing number of high-profile male celebrities who’ve embraced the whole men wearing skirts trend. Other proponents of the look include musicians like Harry Styles, Kid Cudi and Lil Nas X; comedians like Dan Levy and Pete Davidson; and athletes like Harry Garside, Lewis Hamilton and Russell Westbrook.

Of course, Brad’s got form when it comes to wearing women’s clothes, famously posing for Rolling Stone in the 90s in a range of wild dresses.
The other highlight of the outfit? The fact that you can see Brad’s glorious pins. The man might not be as buff as he was in the 90s, but he’s still one fit fella. Oh, and as GQ USA puts it, “if you were previously unaware that Brad Pitt has a tattoo of a rhinoceros on his right shin, consider yourself informed.”
RELATED: Chris Hemsworth Completes Lad Night Bingo With Beers & Home Tattoo

The eclectic outfit also pairs perfectly with the eclectic vibe of Bullet Train, which is set to hit theatres on the 4th of August.
Brad Pitt leads an ensemble cast including Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bad Bunny, Zazie Beetz and Sandra Bullock. He stars as Ladybug, a trained assassin who wishes to give up his job but is forced by his handler to do one more job: collect a briefcase from a bullet train heading from Tokyo to Morioka, where he quickly discovers there are four other assassins on board and their missions are all interconnected.

The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects have been either hit or miss. But it also seems that there’s no clear overarching story anymore – which is what made the MCU so popular in the first place… Spoiler alert: the following article contains spoilers for all MCU projects – including Ms Marvel and Thor: Love and Thunder.
It seems just like yesterday that we watched the sarcastic but loveable “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” Tony Stark become a superhero in the 2008 film Iron Man. But no one could have known at the time that Iron Man would kick off one of the most successful film franchises of all time – the MCU.
Over the last 14 years since Iron Man, twenty-nine MCU films and seven MCU television shows (that all connect together to essentially tell one long story) have been released; and there are plenty more MCU instalments on the way. For example, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law are set to be released before the end of this year.
But is the MCU losing its magic touch? For the first three ‘phases’ of the MCU, commonly known as the Infinity Saga, almost every film teased that Thanos was the big bad and he was desperate to get his hands on the Infinity Stones. And then when he eventually turned up as the main villain in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, it was incredibly satisfying.
Currently, the MCU is in Phase Four and compared to previous phases it’s a tad messy and is honestly giving the impression that the franchise has bitten off more than it can chew. Just look at Phase One; the films Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger were clearly setting up the final film of Phase One, The Avengers.

And each film did this by introducing us to the six avengers and by adding post-credit scenes that hinted at what was coming; Iron Man 2’s post-credits scene was Phil Coulson finding Mjölnir leading us directly into Thor and Captain America’s post-credits scene was essentially a trailer for The Avengers, for instance.
But Phase Four has been all over the shop. So far, the only projects in this phase that have had post-credits scenes that tie in with other MCU films/series are WandaVision (the post-credits are clearly tied to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and upcoming film The Marvels), Black Widow (Valentina Allegra de Fontaine from Falcon and the Winter Soldier makes an appearance), Spider-Man: No Way Home (it’s practically a trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Ms. Marvel (Brie Larson cameoed as Captain Marvel teasing Kamala’s involvement in The Marvels).
Everything else is seemingly teasing projects that haven’t been announced yet and, potentially, could never come to fruition. For example, Harry Styles turns up as Eros in the Eternals post-credit scene but there’s no word on when Eros will appear again in the MCU.
Sure, looking at the comics, Eros is friends with Captain Mar-Vell so he could potentially show up in The Marvels but as the character Captain Mar-Vell isn’t currently set to appear in that film, it seems unlikely that Eros will show up.

Similarly, Jake Lockley makes a brief appearance in the Moon Knight post-credits scene even though there’s been no confirmation of a Season 2 or when Marc/Steven/Jake will appear next in the MCU; so why tease us?
Sure, there are a few post-credits scenes from Phases Two and Three of the MCU that still haven’t panned out yet; for instance, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ended with Ayesha creating Adam – a character who will first appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which doesn’t get released until next year.
But those types of post-credit scenes were a rarity in Phase Two and Three, whereas Phase Four is seemingly filled with post-credit scenes that are teasing things that are either YEARS away or will, sadly, never happen. Plus, we don’t even know who the new big bad is; our guess is Kang the Conqueror from Loki but we can’t be certain at this stage.
Hopefully, there is a plan and the MCU is actually setting up something massive that once revealed, will make Phase Four’s post-credit scenes and overarching story make sense retrospectively. But if so, the MCU needs to reveal it soon, otherwise, fans may grow tired and will stop religiously watching every MCU project… Leading to the MCU’s demise.
