Gianluca Vacchi’s ‘Death Ray’ Treadmill Is The Ab Cruncher 2000 Of The Instagram Generation

There are insane fitness gadgets and then there's Gianluca Vacchi's 'Enjoy Bike' -- a treadmill-like machine that requires you to furiously pedal while seated at an angle more suited to cocktails than cardio.

But we expect nothing less from the business tycoon, mad professor, DJ and Italian Playb...

Latest Apple Watch Feature Will Tell You If You’re About To Go Deaf
Latest Apple Watch Feature Will Tell You If You’re About To Go Deaf

Apple didn’t announce a new watch overnight at the WWDC convention but they did drop interesting spoilers on what watchOS 6 is packing for its users when the new Apple Watch Series 5 drops later this year. The most interesting feature in our opinion? A Noise app which tells you if the ‘doof-doof’ from concerts, sporting events or noisy environments is doing damage to your hearing.

The Noise app takes full advantage of the watch which sits exposed on the wrist to measure sound levels in the surroundings. As the sound levels change, the app’s decibel meter moves in real time and the watch will send a notification if the decibel level reaches 90 decibels – a level which begins to impact hearing after four hours per week of exposure, according to the World Health Organisation.

At the other end of the spectrum more skewed for women, watchOS 6 also includes a menstrual cycle app which can tell female users about their flow cycles and when to expect the next one. Weirdly functional, we’d assume. As a guy who once dated a girl, simply gauging their rising anger levels sufficed for us…but we digress.

And finally for those who always dine out in large groups, you’ll never be short changed again by cheapskate ‘friends’ because the new Calculator app helps with splitting the bill efficiently. There’s also an additional feature which helps non-Americans workout the tip amount to pay on a bill to avoid unexpected death stares.

Other WatchOS 6 features to look out for include:
  • Dynamic new watch faces and customisation options offering more personalisation and access to favourite apps, contacts and information
  • New developer tools include an audio API to stream music, radio and podcasts, an API to give extended runtime to session-based tasks, such as physical therapy and meditation, and Core ML now uses the Apple Neural Engine on Apple Watch Series 4, enabling faster processing of on-device inputs
  • The popular Voice Memos app is now available on Apple Watch
  • Audiobooks purchased on Apple Books are now available to listen to directly from the new Audiobooks app on the watch
  • Siri search queries can display webpage results in full on Apple Watch
  • Apple GymKit compatibility extends to manufacturers Octane Fitness, TRUE Fitness and Woodway, connecting Apple Watch to more cardio equipment in clubs around the world

Men Reveal The Subtle Dating Hints They Wish Women Would Pick Up On
Men Reveal The Subtle Dating Hints They Wish Women Would Pick Up On

If you’ve ever flirted all night with a guy only for him to go home with another chica then listen up — this one’s for you. The ultimate guide to a man’s… heart. Or at least — pointers on how to avoid driving him crazy.

From the repository of wisdom that is Reddit’s AskMen forum, unanimous consensus was reached on the following points. Thus, we bring you, the male dating behaviours men wish women understood (if you’re a guy, check out this article, on the dating hints women wish men would pick up on).

When We Are Smiley, Nervous Or Asking A Lot Of Questions, We Are Trying To Flirt Without Flirting

If a guy is not confident enough to add you on Facebook and start posting fire-emojis under your Instagram photos (let’s face it, this is probably a good thing), he may try a more subtle approach to his courtship. This can also involve light teasing, remembering small details and trying too hard to create ‘in-jokes’ with you.

When We Gently Bring Up An Issue, We Are Hoping To Start A Relaxed Discussion — Not A War

While being too proud to discuss sensitive topics rationally is clearly something both genders struggle with, one man said that his SO was so defensive that she would start an argument every time he brought up an issue in their relationship, regardless of how ~chill~ he was in bringing it up.

This often comes from insecurity or the ingrained societal perception that women are objects to be pursued and held up on a pedestal, prompting one commenter to say: “The relationship should be the prize, not the person.”

“One of the biggest turn offs in a budding or mature relationship for me is a partner that doesn’t pull their own weight.”

We’re Oblivious, Not Disinterested

“If you have a problem with me, just say it, cause I won’t be able to guess,” one user said in a comment which received 11.6k upvotes. In other words, if your partner is kicking back playing video games, he probably doesn’t realise something is wrong.

Unless you tell him.

Before you let your boyfriend rub this article in your face though, feel free to show him this one, which details how men need to be more intuitive.

The solution? Tell your beau, bae or toy boy what’s bugging you, give him a chance to sort it out; then — if he doesn’t — kiss his ass adios.

But remember: just as women are sometimes unfairly diagnosed with ‘resting b*tch face’, men are often diagnosed with ‘resting idiocy syndrome’. While every situation is different, your partner may not be pissing you off on purpose; he could just be chilling out.

We Find Your Empty Tinder Bio Hard To Handle

One man had a useful insight for any single gal sick of hearing the same Google-searched icebreakers from her dating app suiters.

“Put something in your bio so I don’t need to write a generic one-liner.”

We Get Confused When You Show Extreme Patience, But Don’t Make A Move

One user’s story says it all…

“When I was in college, I had a girl from down the hall sit up watching me play rollercoaster tycoon until 3am or so. She sat there for like 5 or 6 hours watching me play. Turns out she wanted to have sex, (but) had just assumed that I would be done playing ‘any minute’…”

We Get Upset When You Assume We Have Hearts Of Granite

“Be upfront. Be direct. Initiate things. Cuddle.”

If a guy sidles up to you during a movie, it doesn’t just mean he wants popcorn. And no, before your mind goes all “Netflix & Chill” — he’s not necessarily after that either. Believe it or not, despite their oftentimes callous veneers, men are suckers for a bit of affection, cuddles and spooning (as long as you find a position that doesn’t result in a week-long dead arm).

We Love It When You Chase Us

“Don’t be afraid to make the first move, it is very appreciated.”

Chris Hemsworth Is Rocking The Coolest Suit Trend Of The Season
Chris Hemsworth Is Rocking The Coolest Suit Trend Of The Season

Two suits worn the same way in two days? We’ll take that as a one of this year;s hottest menswear trends – and it’s literally cooler. It was only just yesterday when we covered Michael B. Jordan rocking the checked blue suit with a white shirt sans tie, and now another Marvel alumni has done the same.

At the MIB photocall in London Chris Hemsworth stepped out in a familiar check blue suit that was perfectly tailored to his frame.

The Australian actor is known for paring down just about any look and even in this blue windowpane number he still polishes up nicely without a tie, pocket square or watch. The suit colour of the season was finished off with a pair of sunglasses and black loafers for a suit combo that’s made for summer.

A closer look at the suit fabric which features a more defined pattern than Jordan’s blue suit. Square frame sunglasses perfectly polishes off the look in a masterclass of how to do more with less. Looking like Hemsworth probable helps too, but we’ll leave that up for debate.

New Studies Uncover The Processed Foods That Could Be Killing You
New Studies Uncover The Processed Foods That Could Be Killing You

Most people probably aren’t aware that a blueberry muffin from the supermarket could murder you in your sleep but today there’s evidence. Two major studies from Europe have found a link between the consumption of highly-processed foods and the risk of cardiovascular disease and death.

According to the study, these so-called “ultra-processed” foods include:

  • Packaged baked goods and snacks
  • Carbonated sugar drinks
  • Sugary cereals
  • Ready made meals containing food additives
  • Dehydrated vegetable soups
  • Reconstituted meat and fish products which contain high levels of added sugar, fat, and/or salt, whilst lacking in vitamins and fibre

The true danger signs are that these foods often account for around 25-60 percent of the daily energy intake in many countries. Whilst previous studies have suggested a link between ultra-processed foods to a higher risk of obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and some cancers, hard evidence has been scarce. This new finding published by The BMJ should be further motivation for those who regularly indulge in these types of foods.

According to one of the two studies, “an absolute 10 percent increase in the proportion of ultra-processed food in the diet was associated with significantly higher rates of overall cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease, and cerebrovascular disease (increase of 12%, 13%, and 11% respectively)”. The same study returned a positive association between unprocessed or minimally processed foods and lower risks of all reported diseases.

The second study showed that higher consumption of ultra-processed foods which accounted for more than 4 servings per day was associated with a 62% increased risk of all cause mortality. This was compared to a lower consumption of less than 2 servings of ultra processed food per day. And what happened when the daily serving of ultra-processed food increased? The mortality rate increased by 18 percent via a ‘dose-response’ effect.

These are all scary figures for those who want to live a decently fulfilling life, but the researchers do highlight that studies are observational through their test subjects. Nonetheless it takes into account the well known lifestyle risk factors and markers of dietary quality. In other words the latest findings support the notion that highly processed foods are detrimental to health.

How My First Ever Business Class Trip Totally Ruined Travel For Me
How My First Ever Business Class Trip Totally Ruined Travel For Me

After 24 years of sneering at the fools who fly Business Class, last month I had the chance to recognise my covetousness for what it really was; flying from Sydney to Bali at the Pointy End of a Qantas’ A330. Having been invited by the Flying Kangaroo to experience the Balinese Luxury Travel industry for myself, I immediately shrugged off my budget-backpacker principles, swallowed a healthy dose of Chardonnay, and hopped on-board to see what life is like on the other side of the curtain.

Flight Facts

Route: Sydney-Denpasar

Flight Number: QF 43

Aircraft: Airbus A330

Flight Time: 6 hours 40 minutes

Seat: 4A

From hitting the ‘call of shame’ to losing my seat belt, here’s what I noticed is different between Business Class and Economy — and why this trip ruined me for life.

The Airport Lounge May Be Designed For Business, But It’s A Pleasure Seeker’s Paradise

From the expertly-mixed cocktails and Rockpool-worthy cuisine to the day spa, Sydney’s version of the hanging gardens of Babylon, bottomless glasses of Champagne and staff more attentive than a led-on lover, Qantas’ airport lounge is a place where business magnates, politicians and worldly travellers can let their hair down in style.

Disclaimer: we were actually treated to Qantas’ International First Class Lounge, which international Business class ticket holders will not have access to unless they are also Platinum level frequent flyers. But if you’re not part of this scheme, don’t worry too much: the Rockpool menu and drinks are also available in the International Business Lounge, even if the spa isn’t.

Flying Business Doesn’t Protect You From Flight Delays Or Late Passengers

While I used to grumble about delays as an Economy passenger, it actually stings worse if you have paid a premium for your ticket.

But… Flying Business Gives You A More Comfortable Place To Wait Out Any Hiccups

Whether you’re in the lounge or on the tarmac, I’d rather be camped out in a gilded prison than a cramped one. This also makes the lead-up to your trip less stressful, knowing that no matter what happens you will be comfortable (and if you’re travelling for work, the chance to be productive).

Business Class Kids Cry Too

Coming from Qantas’ International First Lounge — a serene, adult playpen — it was a shock to board the plane and have any notion of a nap put to bed by a bunch of mewling infants. Fortunately, this ‘surround-sound’ was dealt with warmly (and effectively) by both the Cabin Crew and the kids’ parents, and as soon as the plane reached cruising altitude, peace (and quiet) resumed.

The Seatbelt Is More Complicated Than The Economy One

It’s hardly neuroscience, but for a rookie Business Class passenger, the seatbelt takes some working out. And if you’re not careful it will retract into the back of the seat, behind the padding, never to be seen again (until you hit the ‘call of shame’ button).

Despite Being In An Ultra-Relaxed Environment, For The First Couple Of Hours, I Couldn’t Actually Relax

As the champagne, care-packages and announcements of more epicurean delights to come flowed, I struggled to zone out like I do in Economy, scared that if I shut my eyes for even a second, a plate of caviar or a tray of golden nuggets would pass me by…

But… Once We Got A Few Hours In, I Really Appreciated The Business Class Amenities

Once you realise there is no lever to recline your seat (it’s all controlled by a panel which everyone else noticed immediately, but which I didn’t notice until a few hours in), you can lay back, chuck on a few Stan or HBO flicks, and treat yourself like royalty.

The A330’s Seat Configuration is Excellent

While certain seating arrangements can lead to an awkward staring match, Qantas’ A330’s have a spacious, 1-2-1 dual aisle configuration, in which everyone faces forward and has direct aisle access.

There Is Plenty Of Space To Store Your Belongings

Remember the precipitous struggle of balancing a weird-smelling curry, water and coffee all on a dodgy tray the passenger in front of you is liable to shunt forwards or backwards at any time? In Business Class this is no longer an issue.

There Is Way More Privacy, So No One Can Judge Your Dodgy Taste In Paperbacks

Whether you’re into 50 Shades Of Grey or The Financial Times, in Business Class you won’t receive any judgement from a nosy neighbour.

The Food Will Make You Forget You Are On A Plane

Airline food gets a bad rap. Plastic, chewy, salty etc. But that’s just Economy. In Business, you may as well be in a restaurant, and if your diet is like mine, you’ll be eating fresher ingredients than at home.

The Cabin Crew’s Charisma Will Make You Question Everything

Once you’re off the flight and under the sullen gaze of an Immigration Official, you realise you aren’t that charming after all; the Cabin Crew are just great at making you feel that way.

It Is A Huge Novelty Not To Think: “I Wonder If My Touch Screen Will Actually Work This Time”

#Businessclassfeels.

When Disembarking You Avoid The Economy Class Stampede

Being at the front of the plane you have fewer people to contend with and are allowed to leave first, making what is usually a painstaking experience deliciously uneventful.

Once You Go Flat You Never Go Back…

Flying Business Class has officially ruined travel for me. Despite being the proud owner of an online shopping addiction and fewer savings than a 10-year-old, I now refuse to travel anywhere unless I’m flying-flat.
