Qantas’ wrinkled old 747’s will finally make way for a new fleet (for all Australian flights to Los Angeles), comprised entirely of A380’s and 787-9 Dreamliners.
Qantas said in a statement that this adjustment to its international network has come “in response to demand and to better utilize its fleet” (or maybe they saw our recent rankings of the best business class experiences in the sky).
And when can we expect the changes to be rolled out? Well, from the 3rd December 2018, Qantas’ last remaining Boeing 747 services operating into Los Angeles will be replaced by Airbuses and Dreamliners.
This will free up the 747’s to take over the Sydney to Honolulu service (from the smaller A330-300) over the holiday peak (7th December until Easter), increasing the airline’s carrying capacity by more than 300 seats each week. Not a bad retirement plan, is it?
Qantas will also adjust capacity in Asia later this year to better match demand by offering an extra A330 service between Sydney and Osaka (QF33/34) from 7 December 2018—increasing the service which began in December last year to four times a week—as well as (from the 28th October), adding a Tuesday A330 service between Sydney and Manila (QF19/20), giving customers the choice of a daily flight between the two cities.
A spokesperson has said, “The adjustments to our international network are part of our strategy of making the best use of our fleet and matching demand by having the right aircraft, on the right route, at the right time, emphasising the strong interest that has been shown by customers.
“We’re already seeing strong demand for the end of year holiday period on our services to Los Angeles and Osaka, so we expect the extra capacity to be well received.”
Tickets for new services will be progressively available from today, and customers who have already booked flights impacted by the changes will be re-accommodated on other services.

IKEA is officially lit. That’s the hype beast verdict on SPÄNST, a furniture collaboration between streetwear label STAMPD designed to show off your latest threads and sneakers in a sleek minimalistic setting.
The strikingly curated pieces range in everything from affordable skateboards, to transparent sneaker cases, to chairs and hoodies. The designs exists thanks to the creative minds of Chris Stamp, STAMPD’s founder, and furniture designer Maja Ganszyniec.
The result is naturally Scandinavian but with an edgy monochromatic twist which IKEA says isn’t just home furnishings – it’s a lifestyle.
“Fashion and furniture are different animals, but the creative process is similar,” Stamp said in IKEA’s SPÄNST announcement.
“With this collection I’ve learned that it’s worth pushing the limits.”

More importantly the collection’s pieces are all pretty affordable. The transparent sneaker boxes retail for US$20 whilst the wardrobe goes for US$229. Even the monochromatic basketball hoop is within reach at US$35. There’s also more random stuff like LED light sticks which are intended to be thrown in a corner for that chic industrial look.
Stamp explained that there was a reason for this. “I grew up surfing and skating. Here in So Cal, skating is more than transportation. It’s a culture.”
Those keen to deck their pad out with street chic will be happy to know that the collection is available for worldwide purchase from May 1.

The wait for the world’s first Rolls-Royce SUV is almost over. After years hidden away in development, the Cullinan will finally break onto the luxury motoring scene in early 2019 as one of the most audacious projects to ever come out of the famed Goodwood workshop.
Rolls-Royce are now accepting expressions of interest along with the option to put down a deposit on the British luxury SUV. The car hasn’t exactly been kept under covers in recent months with sightings of it at tracks like Germany’s Nurburgring, albeit in camo guise.
Nonetheless it hasn’t stopped nosey motoring journos to speculate and create renderings of the car before its official unveiling. Whilst its direct competition will come in the form of the AU$420,000 Bentley Bentayga, other high-performance SUVs that the Cullinan will have to compete with includes the Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV, the Maserati Levante Trofeo and Lamborghini’s Urus, with Ferrari set to join the fold in the very near future.
Leaked details reveals that the Rolls-Royce Cullinan will borrow some of its underpinnings from the Phantom. That means a big V12 engine, modified aluminium platform and a sleek interior design.
The car is currently going through its pre-production testing phase out in the open environment so expect to see more spy shots popping up during the year,
Until then you can sign on the dotted line over at Rolls-Royce now.

Game 3 of the NBA playoffs between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Indiana Pacers took place on Friday night, but no one would have noticed.
Ok, maybe the tight competition wasn’t missed entirely but it can certainly be argued that the game was stolen by one of the most elaborate arena entries ever seen in NBA history.
LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers made a true spectacle of the lead-in by teaming up with New York-based designer Thom Browne. The flavour of the night? Immaculately co-ordinated menswear in the form of made-to-measure suits, cardigans, ties, polished shoes, sunglasses (indoors), man purses and luxury crocodile skin carry bags.
Whilst the idea of turning the arena entry into a fashion catwalk was first conceived by one of the NBA’s best dressers, Dwyane Wade and the American label, it was James who carried on the tradition after Wade’s departure from the team.
According to the New York Times, LeBron said in an e-mail that “All of us suiting up together was just a new idea and something we all wanted to try”.
The experiment paid off with paparazzi lining the hallways alongside rubbish bins as players made their way from the team bus to the locker room.

According to the style experts the motive behind this new level of peacocking in professional sports simply comes down to one-up-manship and raising the ideal of a unified team.
It’s a movement which LeBron James credits holistically to Wade, a man he calls the NBA’s “most important fashion innovators”.
“It represents all of it – camaraderie, solidarity, brotherhood,” James wrote in an email to the newspaper. “It definitely creates a feeling like we are one and in this together.”
For Thom Browne, the pre-game fashion show means something more for the next generation.
“These guys represent so much to so many people, especially young kids,” he said. “They look up to these guys to see what they can aspire to. And they represent working hard to be really good at what they do. That’s ultimately what everyone is going to see.”
Fashion has always been a part of professional sports. Simply look at the sneakers that the NBA players wear on court as evidence. The only difference now is that the fashion aspect has expanded further into the luxury realm with surprising effects.

London, New York, Tokyo, Paris, Milan, Melbourne Sydney: to dwell in the innards of these places is a luxury only Yuppies are willing to pay for (and investment bankers able to afford).
Over the 20th century, as job opportunities, history, culture, excellent nightlife and exponential growth drew more and more people to mega-cities (Sydney didn’t have lock-out laws back then), MINI solved the problem of where to park. Now, at the Milan fashion week, it has debuted its nifty plan to accelerate its way into the housing industry.
Trying to get into a new lane of income is never easy. Critics (and proponents) have called MINI’s proposal ‘utopian’, which is probably what they said about its space-saving ‘transverse’ engine front-wheel drive layout in 1959. However, their plan to intentionally challenge the usual hierarchy of architect vs. client, iIllustrating, “New ways of conceiving homes for the young flocking to cities and for elderly urbanites desiring more communal lifestyles” (Forbes), is certainly audacious.
The scheme will involve residents in the creative process, enabling them to work with architects to build micro-houses and inner-city suites that “respond the their needs” and which are “expressions of their lives”, much in the same way the MINI car has become a symbol of the quintessential Londoner (efficient and apologetic) or Parisien (“If I put my hazard lights on it’s not illegal”).
Exhibited in Milan last week, ‘Built By All’ is the latest development in the MINI Living series, which began two years ago in an attempt to explore how “intelligent design” can assist city living. The plan is to collaborate with unconventional young architects, using different firms for different concepts, and create accommodation tailor-made for its location and inhabitants.
As reported by Forbes, there have been four proposals so far—three in Milan and two in London, with research projects also taking place in Brooklyn. So far they include “Do Disturb” (shared living spaces in urban areas), “Forests” (micro city retreats with communal access), “Breathe” (a building that physically connects its inhabitants to their natural surroundings) and “Urban Cabin” (a mix of private and shared experiences told through the story of books and food).
For those hoping to see concrete evidence, the first project is set to be implemented in Shanghai in 2019.

Men who have long dreaded the use of rubber during their greatest sexual exploits now have something to get excited about.
A new study from journal PLOS ONE has outlined the discovery of a compound called EP055 which attaches itself to sperm proteins to significantly slow their mobility. The breakthrough comes from the compound’s ability to carry out the task without affecting the hormones, thus paving the way for a potential ‘male pill’ with zero side effects.
Professor Michael O’Rand who led the investigation says that “simply put, the compound turns-off the sperm’s ability to swim, significantly limiting fertilisation capabilities”.
“This makes EP055 an ideal candidate for non-hormonal male contraception.”
The current market for safe male contraception only extends to the use of readily available condoms or a surgical vasectomy. Beyond that there are hormonal drugs in clinical trial stages that are designed to target the production of sperm, but these can affect a man’s natural hormones much like a female pill can affect a woman’s hormones.
The only bad news? EP055 has only been tested on male monkeys so far.
During the trial phase, male subjects were given a high dose of EP055 intravenously. After 30 hours of exposure O’Rand and his researchers at the Oregon National Primate Research Centre found no indication of normal sperm motility. More importantly, no physical side effects were observed.
“At 18 days post-infusion, all macaques (monkeys) showed signs of complete recovery, suggesting that the EP055 compound is indeed reversible,” said study co-investigator Mary Zelinski, PhD, research associate professor at the ONPRC.
Whilst the news is promising, O’Rand and Zelinski admit that more research is needed before EP055 is officially deemed safe for human use. The next stage for the compound is to extract it into a pill which will eventually be used in a compatibility test to see EP055’s effectiveness against pregnancy.

You know the drill: salt-lick, ethanol-sniff, queasy gulp, lime.
If Redbull gives you wings, tequila gives you twin-jets. Colloquially known as an instigator of bad decisions, heartfelt (yet sensation-less) hookups and barf-stained carpets world over, ‘liquid punch on’ has a reputation for being fun—but also a bit of a nuisance.
The Rock plans on making it even stronger. A TMZ report revealed that Johnson has filed paperwork to secure the rights to a new ‘Mana’ tequila brand. Mana, a Polynesian belief, is described by Johnson as a, “Disruptive positive energy always ready to dent the universe”. If that’s not tequila, nothing is.

It’s been reported that when it comes to booze on cheat days, Dwayne’s preferred spirit is tequila. It’s no secret that Tom Hardy is a frontrunner in line to play the next James Bond, but based on his latest drastic transformation one would never guess it.
The 40-year-old English actor is pretty much unrecognisable in his latest portrayal as the notorious American crime boss, Al Capone – you know, the guy they nicknamed ‘Scarface’.
The film that is currently being put together is called ‘Fonzo’ and will see Hardy playing a dilapidated 47-year-old Capone after a decade spent in prison. As a shadow of his former glory, he now suffers from dementia and comes to be haunted by his violent past.
Here’s what Hardy looked like last year when he compared himself to Daniel Craig as 007.
And here’s what he looks like now. The make-up department sure know what they’re doing.
But based on the latest images from Hardy’s Instagram page, it looks the actor has also put on some weight to fill out the fuller figure of Capone – a move commonly practiced by his Dark Knight co-star Christian Bale. Don’t believe us? Check out what Christian Bale looks like once he’s let himself go.
The film’s director Josh Trank also revealed an even more candid image of Hardy in mugshot form which shows off the actor’s receding hairline and staunch look.
The Oscar-nominated actor is next due to play Marvel’s super villain Venom, so you can expect him to bulk up after this role to look more like a formidable threat to Spiderman.
Or perhaps he could take a few pointers from fellow British actor James McAvoy who got absolutely ripped for his upcoming role in the Split sequel.
