OMEGA Released An Awesome Superhero Watch But You Can't Have It Because It Sold Out In 2 Hours
OMEGA Released An Awesome Superhero Watch But You Can't Have It Because It Sold Out In 2 Hours

Acquiring exclusive timepieces can be a fickle game. Overnight Swiss luxury watchmaker OMEGA released the second watch from its wildly popular #SpeedyTuesday campaign – a concept which allows internet-savvy customers from around the world to purchase an exclusive Speedmaster piece made available only through its @OMEGA Instagram channel.

It’s smart marketing but it’s also backed up by a damn fine timepiece and if you need proof that, how does all 2,012 pieces sold out in under two hours sound?

That’s faster than it takes you to build a one-legged IKEA stool. The deserving culprit was OMEGA’s Speedmaster Limited Edition 42mm “Ultraman” which exhausted its allocation in approximately 1 hour, 53 minutes and 17 seconds.

The striking piece of wristwear is a tribute to the titular Japanese superhero character known as Ultraman who reigned supreme on television screens during the late 1960s. Think of him as the founding father of the Kaiju “giant monster” genre alongside icons like Godzilla.

The watch takes inspiration from this kitsch character whilst pairing it with authentic space travel credentials borrowed from OMEGA’s 1967 “Moonwatch” – also known as the first watch on the moon.

RELATED: This Watch Became The Most Expensive OMEGA Ever Sold

The similarities between the watches include the same dimensions and shade of striking orange. This colour theme also extends to a black and orange bezel set in anodised aluminium. A 42mm stainless steel case houses the OMEGA’s 1861 calibre movement which provides hours and minute functions alongside three chronograph counters. Contrast is evident thanks to a black and orange dial with fine marker detailing and aged lume plots.

One easter egg to look out for is the minute subdial at 3 o’clock which features the first 3 minutes picked-out in orange – a nod to Ultraman who was only able to stay in superhero-mode for 3 minutes. There’s also a hidden silhouette of the hero on the seconds subdial at 9 o’clock that is revealed with a special tool that comes with the watch. This tool is modelled off Ultraman’s ‘Beta Capsule’ which comes with a UV lamp to reveal the motif when shined on the dial.

Rounding things out nicely is a 48 hour power reserve, 50 metres water resistance, NASA engraving on the caseback and a black and orange NATO strap alongside a spare black leather strap. Those lucky enough to get one can keep it safe in a cool hexagonal box which is a tribute to the futuristic table used by Ultraman’s Monster Attack Team.

The OMEGA Speedy Tuesday 2 “Ultraman” retailed for US$7,100 and we can only describe how we felt about the news through a series of Ultraman GIFs.

Ellen DeGeneres Casually Reveals Her $175,000 Rolex In Latest Seinfeld Interview
Ellen DeGeneres Casually Reveals Her $175,000 Rolex In Latest Seinfeld Interview

She can dance like a white boy, she can ask the tough questions with a smile and she can make people laugh. And now Ellen Degeneres can add another accolade to her impressive repertoire – the proud owner of a $175,000 Rolex Paul Newman Daytona Reference 6241.

According to a past Hodinkee sale, the highly sought after Paul Newman Daytona timepiece was a bit of a dark horse back in its debut days. It featured a white dial with black sub-registers, push-down chronograph buttons and a striking black acrylic bezel. These “exotic” appointments weren’t looked highly upon back in 1969 and the model sat dormant on the shelf for years until the 1980s before Italian collectors discovered them and gave them the nickname of Paul Newman Daytonas after seeing a picture of the actor rocking one.

Fast forward more than 30 years and the watch is now one of the most lucrative vintage Rolexes to ever hit the market. And here we have talk show host Ellen DeGeneres casually flinging one around on her wrist in the third episode of Netflix’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.

The premise of the show is exactly what you think it is. Jerry Seinfeld, a comedian, meets up with Ellen DeGeneres, another comedian, to chat about everything from how the talk show host got her start in comedy, to family, horses, and taking fashion advice.

More importantly the vintage Rolex is paired with a period correct car when Seinfeld picks up DeGeneres in a 1977 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. You can’t see the Rolex in the video below but you can see what the pair get up to.

This wouldn’t be the first time a celebrity has shown off their finest watch collection to the public. David Beckham recently wore a $55,000 watch with a basic white tee in Tokyo whilst Floyd Mayweather went all out with an $18 million diamond encrusted watch.

Research Shows Bitching At Work Is Actually Good For Productivity
Research Shows Bitching At Work Is Actually Good For Productivity

Picture this: you arrive at work two minutes late, after pulling a late night shift. Your boss points an eyebrow and taps his watch. Bob from accounts then pushes you under the bus for an uncompleted piece of work. Oh and for good measure, you spill your coffee.

It’s times like these when the motivational Max’s of the office can straight f*ck off. You don’t need encouragement—you need a bitching session with a fellow co-worker. And despite what the grasping middle managers of the world will have you believe, whinging with colleagues is not only good for your mental health, but also good for the company as a whole.

A recent study, by Dr Vanessa Pouthier, from the university of Melbourne, has shown that these unfairly maligned “bitching sessions,” act as a crucial pressure valve—particularly in high stress roles—that allow people to process stress and frustration. She came to this conclusion after conducting extensive research into the habits of a team of healthcare professionals in an American hospital, including nurses, doctors and surgeons.

“These little rituals,” she told the ABC on a podcast, “Change the mood of a meeting,” allowing workers in the hospital to vent about challenging patients, workloads, and family situations. This had a positive effect on the team as a whole, as well as each individual’s psychological well being, because it gave them a common enemy—whether that be senior management, the organisation’s bureaucratic structure or other professionals working in different areas whose decisions impact them.

She also discovered that griping at work is a functional, self-regulating phenomenon. Although upper management fear that a culture of complaining is an indicator of a dysfunctional workplace, there tends to be a strong unwritten code that governs what, when and who you whinge about with your #workwives, that keeps it from spiralling out of control.

For instance, Dr Pouthier found that there was more flexibility around joking than whinging, and the people she observed were more comfortable with humour than whinging when it was directed at each other. Another rule was that you can’t gripe (too much) about another team member—only external sources of trouble from the team.

This creates what she calls a community of shared faith, where people in the team from different backgrounds realise that they are more similar than they think, creating temporary bonds between them. According to her this has a positive impact on the mental health of each individual, and makes the team more emotionally intelligent.

And, at least in the environment she observed, there was, “No chance of emotional contagion,” because the bitching sessions lasted, “Less than a minute,” before they could cross that line between ‘frustration outlet’ and a ‘source of depression’.

Although more research is needed on what the employers make of all this, Dr Pouthier said she doesn’t see how the people she studied can live without these whinging rituals. She also concluded that, as they are self regulating and don’t demand systemic change (they acknowledge the problems are inevitable or even necessary, and complained to each other to release stress, not to actually call for change) they are a crucial, sustainable part of what makes the team emotionally effective.

Whinging wouldn’t be part of the local culture if it wasn’t functional, she added, explaining that, “It’s about kinship,” and that, “They would defend their organisation to an outsider.” So whinging is benign at worst, and adds value at best. There’s some Tuesday food for thought for you.

Samuel L. Jackson Shows You How To Pull Off Menswear's Most Difficult Suit Colour
Samuel L. Jackson Shows You How To Pull Off Menswear's Most Difficult Suit Colour

Bright colours often call for a big personality and there’s no one better to pull off that challenge than the world’s favourite angry guy, Samuel L. Jackson.

The veteran 69-year-old actor showed up to the London premiere of the Incredibles 2 over the weekend rocking one of menswear’s most difficult suit colours to pull off – bright red. The hue was paired with a fine check pattern to evoke an authentic 1960s Americana-style suit (think dapper Mad Men days) but with a twist. Jackson paired the suit with a contemporary art print tee which provided great contrast along with an ivory fedora hat.

It’s certainly not abiding by any style rules and that’s exactly why it’s a winner. The look simply suits the occasion whilst acting as an extension of Jackson’s more animated persona. Finer details like red leather perforated slip-ons and peach framed glasses polishes off the red ensemble quite nicely.

And that’s how you pull off a red check suit in 2018. Not feeling it? See below.

Five Reasons Why It's Good To Occasionally Take A Break From Exercise
Five Reasons Why It's Good To Occasionally Take A Break From Exercise

The equation seems like a simple one: working out plus eating right equals getting fit. But what if you could actually improve your progress by letting a little dust gather on your gym shoes?

Although it seems counterintuitive, time off from training could actually make you – to quote Daft Punk – harder, better, faster, stronger.

Here are the crucial reasons why you should take a break from exercise if you want to see gains.

#1 Avoid Burnout

Even if you’re obsessed with spinning or can’t imagine a week without CrossFit, doing the same activity over and over again can start to feel stale.

It doesn’t take a genius to know that “boredom” ranks pretty low on the list of powerful motivators. That old cliché about absence and the heart applies to fitness, too. A few days away will remind you why you love it and make you work twice as hard when you get back.

#2 Get Stronger

Muscles aren’t built while the weights are in your hands. Real growth happens while you’re recovering from lifting, when your body rebuilds itself after being put to the test.

Granting your body extended recovery time can end up making you stronger in the long run. Don’t be surprised if you reach new personal bests when you’re fresh off an exercise break.

#3 Reduce Stress

Both mind and body endure serious stress during your exercise regime. You may feel pressure to squeeze workouts into an already-busy schedule, or may be skipping sleep in order to do it.

A week off can give you time to rest up, recharge, and focus on other things you’ve been ignoring. With those burdens off your back, you’ll be reinvigorated for gym time.

#4 Address The Issues

What have you been neglecting in your relentless pursuit of bigger biceps? Balance out your intense training with stretching, meditation, or a gentle yoga class.

An exercise break is also the perfect time to assess any injuries you may have incurred. What seems like a minor inconvenience now could become a severe limitation if left untreated.

#5 Shift Your Focus

Be honest: what’s really working for you and what isn’t? Use your no-workout week to critically evaluate your fitness plan.

Determine whether your performance objectives are right for you or you need a change. Reappraise your nutrition strategy and make adjustments where needed. By the time you’re back from the break, you’ll be refreshed, refocused, and better aligned with your goals.

These Premium Economy Seats Are Leading The Charge In The Skies
These Premium Economy Seats Are Leading The Charge In The Skies

Every traveller knows the pain of cattle class. The cramped seating. The pitiful entertainment choices. The food (or is it?) with the nutritional value of warm plastic. And the crying babies. How could we forget the crying babies? Now that you’re feeling sufficiently nauseous, let’s talk about the alternatives. If you’re in for a long flight and you can afford to bump yourself up to business, do it without hesitation. If you can’t, relax – you won’t be forced to sit with the herd, thanks to a little thing called premium economy.More and more airlines are jumping on the premium economy bandwagon (Emirates are set to join the party in 2020), offering perks like wider seats, more legroom and enhanced onboard catering in special seating. On the ground, premium economy passengers are often treated to priority boarding and Business lounge access. Sound good? We thought so. Book your next adventure in one of these top-tier premium economy seats.

Emirates

Emirates’ latest premium economy product. Image Credit: Airline Ratings
Arguably the best premium economy product on the planet, Emirates’ premium economy – which recently became available on the Sydney – Dubai flight route – is an absolute game changer. On both the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 777, Emirates’ Premium Economy has a seat pitch of up to 40 inches (101.5cm). That’s better than most airlines’ premium economy seats, with many others having more like a 38-inch pitch. Emirates’ premium economy seats are also quite wide, measuring 19.5 inches (49.5cm) across. They also have a recline of eight-inches (20cm). On top of that, naturally, there’s at-seat power, a generously sized dining table and a drinks table on the side. The coolest feature though is the ‘cradle’. This isn’t quite a bed, but the footrest cradle helps keep your legs up, almost as though you were lying flat. In terms of price, Emirates’ premium economy looks to sit roughly half way between economy and business class. Emirates’ A380 Premium Economy also offers a signature experience unmatched in the industry, with a dedicated airport experience and check-in areas exclusive to the Premium Economy passengers; luxurious, non-stain cream seats with more legroom and footrests; dining experience with elements inspired by Business Class; and Emirates’ award-winning entertainment ice.VIEW OR BOOK @ Emirates

Air New Zealand

More premium than economy.
Air New Zealand enjoys putting itself at the forefront of in-flight innovation, and its ink coloured, luxury leather premium economy seat seats are no exception. Expect a large reclining chair which, with 41” of seat pitch (double the standard economy pitch), is amongst the biggest in its class. There’s also a leg rest, a 5” armrest separating you from your snoring neighbour, and 9” of reclining space, so you can comfortably take a snooze when you’re bored of watching movies on your 11″ touch-screen.VIEW OR BOOK @ Air NZ

Cathay Pacific

Relax in comfort…
Forget the horse power of their engines: Cathay Pacific has blown reviewers away with their premium economy offerings. Especially good for the work hard/play hard types, the seats are equipped with in-seat power sockets, USB sockets and a wealth of entertainment options. The list of perks is long, but a few of the highlights include a mini cocktail table, champagne offered before take off, noise-cancelling head phones, Jurlique beauty products, an expansive entertainment selection, and food you might actually order in a restaurant.VIEW OR BOOK @ Cathay Pacific

Lufthansa

Snug yet spacious.
Lufthansa introduced a premium economy product to their long haul fleet in 2014 and haven’t looked back since. The seats offer 50% more room than what you get in economy, plus a centre console between seats that offers an armrest for each passenger. Just imagine a flight with 0 time spent elbow wrestling. Odd, no? But definitely a positive… Passengers in premium economy are also able to check a second item of luggage at no extra cost and get to eat off porcelain tableware like real adults.VIEW OR BOOK @ Lufthansa

Norwegian Air

Plenty of entertainment options here.
Widely regarded as one of the best premium economy offerings in the biz, Norwegian Air Premium Economy is one sought-after experience, in which you will be treated like a Business class guest, given lounge access at the airport where you can indulge in beverages, snacks and Wi-Fi—and this is all before we get onto the cush under your tush. The seat in the Premium Economy cabin is, to say the least, impressive. So much so that one is tempted to compare it to a Business class seat on another airline. Don’t believe us? Try before you buy. Norwegian’s Premium seats have a seat pitch of 109cm-117 cm (43″ to 46″) and legroom of 140 cm (55″) versus the economy cabin seat pitch of 78 cm (31″) which is fixed but in a reclined position.VIEW OR BOOK @ Norwegian Air

Qantas

A great example of one of Qantas’ premium economy offerings, on a 787.
You have Marc Newson and David Caon to thank for the exceptional experience in Qantas premium economy class. The award-winner and Australian industrial designer’s work has resulted in comfy as anything ergonomic seats, real china on which the meals (overseen by the chef responsible for acclaimed Aussie restaurants like Rockpool) are served, footrests (at every seat), moveable TV screens and a generous 40” seat pitch. Essentially: everything you want on the long haul flight (bar an upgrade to Business or First).VIEW OR BOOK @ QANTAS

Virgin Australia

Branson doesn’t do things by halves…
According to Virgin Australia CEO John Borghetti, the exclusive premium economy cabin on Virgin Australia flights isn’t meant to be ‘economy plus’ but ‘business lite.’ The service more than lives up to that moniker, with noise cancelling headphones, reading lights, the infamous RED entertainment system, better meals and an amenity kit that includes an eye mask, ear plugs, socks, lotions, a toothbrush and toothpaste.VIEW OR BOOK @ Virgin

Air Canada

Rock solid service and not a lumberjack in sight.
There’s good news and there’s bad news. The bad news is for Air Canada’s economy class: the airline switched from 9-seats-across to 10-across, meaning less space and more passengers. The good news is for those looking for an upgrade: that move made room for a new premium economy class, a separate cabin with more legroom and more recline (better luck next time, economy). Passengers in those seats are entitled to both priority airport services and premium amenities onboard.VIEW OR BOOK @ Air Canada

Singapore Airlines

Singapore airlines got this right.
Singapore Airlines’ premium economy seat, made by experts and clad in leather, is 19.5 inches wide on the Airbus A380 and 18.5 inches on the Boeing 777-300ER. On both jets the seat pitch is 38 inches—significantly above the average 32 inches of economy. Oh and don’t forget the 8-inch recline option, calf-rest and foot-bar for long-haul flights. The centrepiece of Singapore Airlines’ new premium economy seats, however, is the stunning 13.3-inch full HD touchscreen, paired with active noise-cancelling headphones to provide the ultimate in in-flight entertainment.VIEW OR BOOK @ Singapore Airlines

British Airways

Snazzy.
British Airways jazzes up the name of its premium economy seating – World Traveller Plus – and, thankfully, hypes (and delivers) up everything else about its service to match. All the upgrades you expect are there: more spacious seats, noise-reducing headphones, an amenity kit, an enlarged personal entertainment screen, three-course meals, complimentary bar service and, perhaps most importantly in our modern digital age, a personal in-seat power supply so your favourite iDevices will never go hungry.VIEW OR BOOK @ British Airways

Alitalia

La dolce vita.
Alitalia isn’t an airline you hear about often, but Classica Plus could change that. Each passenger gets an individual 10.6-inch IFE screen, a drink prior to departure, and the option to upgrade to premium economy on board. All menus are designed by Gualtiero Marchesi’s Alma International School of Italian Cuisine. For added indulgence, your meal begins with a hot towel and concludes with dessert topped off with an espresso upon request. Because Italians don’t mess around when it comes to dining and drinking.VIEW OR BOOK @ AlitaliaNow you know the best premium offerings in the sky; all you need is a destination. Koenigsegg's Final Agera Supercars Get Comic Book Hero Names

An era of modern supercar has come to a close for Swedish carmaker, Koenigsegg. No they’re not closing up shop, rather they’re retiring their legendary Agera line with two ‘Final Edition’ models aptly tagged the Koenigsegg Agera FE.The manufacturer also gave each one a unique name with inspiration borrowed from today’s Marvel and Star Wars films. One of the Ageras has been named ‘Thor’ whilst the other has been called ‘Väder’.Each model wears unique badging bearing these quirky names where the normal badges would usually be found. The aesthetic touch accompanies larger wings mounted to the front and rear whilst Thor gets an F1-style dorsal fin. Väder meanwhile gets special wing supports to show off the active aero mechanism. Both carbon bodies receive a distinct finishing with Thor wearing a two-tone hue featuring ‘diamond-flake’ sections whilst Väder wears ‘diamond-flake’ alongside gold leaf accents. The engine department will be looked after with a 1,000kW twin turbo V8 carried over from the One:1.Those figures should be enough to warm crowds over until the successor to the Agera is revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. And you can bet that the car will look as wild as its outgoing brother.

Scientists Now Reckon Orange Juice Is A Gateway Drug
Scientists Now Reckon Orange Juice Is A Gateway Drug

If coffee’s a narcotic then we’d hate to know how scientists are currently categorising our favourite breakfast staple…

We all know a can of coke is not a smart breakfast. But did you know one 12-ounce glass of orange juice contains the same amount of sugar? While this morning’s news has focussed around a US delegate threatening the world health community over breastfeeding, it turns out American scientists are only just getting started. That’s right: juice is now a gateway drug.

Americans drink a lot of juice. And this habit starts from an early age. According to the Times, “More than half of preschool-age children (ages 2 to 5) drink juice regularly, a proportion that, unlike for sodas, has not budged in recent decades.”

“These children consume on average 10 ounces per day, more than twice the amount recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.”

Although many people associate juice with vitamin C and its fruity origins, many are unaware how quickly it can contribute to weight gain. And when you see “100 percent” fruit juice, sold in cute biodegradable bottles—a natural source of vitamins and calcium—it seems counter-intuitive to say that it’s unhealthy.

But juice contains far more concentrated sugar and calories than whole fruit. It also has less fiber, which makes you feel full (and stop eating). Unlike whole fruit, because juice can be consumed quickly, it’s more likely to get you consuming too many carbs. For example, according to the NYT, “Research has found that adults who drank apple juice before a meal felt hungrier and ate more calories than those who started with an apple instead.”

“While eating certain fruits like apples and grapes is associated with a reduced risk of diabetes, drinking fruit juice is associated with the opposite” (NYT).

For this reason scientists have coined the term, “gateway beverage,” articulating their concern over the fact that 1-year-olds who drink more juice also tend to drink more sugary beverages, like soda. This excessive consumption of juice has been linked to an increased risk of weight gain, growing problems and cavities.

Such is the problem, as the Times points out, researchers have found that children in governmental programs (such as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) designed to provide healthy food, but which offer juice to kids, are more likely to exceed the recommended daily fruit juice limit than those who are similarly poor but not enrolled.

Pierce Brosnan Is Dressing Exactly How You Wish Your Dad Would Dress
Pierce Brosnan Is Dressing Exactly How You Wish Your Dad Would Dress

He might not be as polished as his 007 days but Pierce Brosnan is still fighting the good fight when it comes to dressing for his age.

Much like his fellow stylish cohort Jeff Goldblum, the 65-year-old British actor has carved out his own style niche which isn’t cutting-edge in anyway, but purely textbook class in the closet.

Brosnan was spotted over the weekend at Los Angeles International Airport rocking his trademark relaxed look with a checked navy blazer paired with an open-collar striped shirt, black trousers and black dress shoes. Adding a bit of flair was Brosnan’s eyewear which came with colour-tinted lenses – and not the speed dealer variety.

This wouldn’t be the first time the father of five has pulled off this look. Brosnan is a serial offender when it comes to scoring old guy style points as proven by his previous sightings about town.

Navy linen suit with wife in tow, the same blazer with a tonal blue shirt and aviators…we’re calling it now. This is exactly how you’d want your 65-year-old dad to dress.

Hit the gallery below to see the ex-Bond’s most recent wardrobe winners. FYI: walking away from explosion for dramatic effect only.
