Sweaty armpits. An itchy nose. Fidgeting. Even if you can avoid those basic sins it’s hard to look confident on a date. Which may be why so many men can be seen walking around the bar holding their drinks above their chest (shoulders back, pecs out, and a trail of sticky booze in wake), heading back to a date who is thinking, “Do you have scapular implants, or are you just trying way too hard to look ~alpha~?”However, as Chris Manak, one of Australia’s leading dating coaches, recently told us, pretending to be confident when dating (or when approaching someone at a bar) actually hurts your chances more than allowing your sweaty undercarriage to show.As Chris puts it: “You want to feel good on the inside, because your body language is going to reflect that.” However, he also recognises that this is of little use to those of us who live with permanent fear and self-loathing.This in mind, Chris adds that – if you are one of these people – the biggest mistake you can make is “trying to have confident body language” because if don’t really feel it, “you’re just going to look weird.”
“I can always spot those kind of guys.”
As for the aforementioned Mr Scapular? This is what Chris had to say: “A lot of men will walk around the bar holding their beer up over their chest. This is quite defensive behaviour.”According to Chris, this kind of body language is “way worse” than looking a bit jittery: “If you look nervous you just look nervous. Whereas if you look nervous and you’re trying to cover it up; there’s a trust issue as well.”
“If a guy has read a book about holding his shoulders back and he’s walking around the club like that, shoulders back, chest puffed out, he just looks weird.”
Another common mistake a lot of us make when attempting to flirt, Chris told us, is eye contact: “A lot of guys don’t look at a date when they’re talking.”They also tend to ask what they think they should be asking, rather than about things they really want to know (or topics that spring to mind), resulting in an interview-style interaction.
“Guys will sit on dates, ask questions they think they are supposed to ask, and have very boring conversations that don’t spark any kind of interest.”
The solution? “Ask whatever you want to know about.” Be spontaneous. And remember: saying something “boring” in a playful manner can be more engaging than a drearily-delivered “interesting” question. So don’t stress about being clever. Just focus on casual conversation kickstarters combined with some honest and enthusiastic (though not too enthusiastic) body language.Another tip is to position yourselves outside the much-despised “dating game” with something like, “How are you finding Tinder?” or by people watching together.Conspiratorial feels await.Oh and – should things go well – the same concept applies to the bedroom. Or, in other words, honesty = sexy.As high-class escort Samantha X recently told us, being emotionally vulnerable could be the key to having the best sex of your life – a message men are now taking on board in increasing numbers. So go ahead: flaunt those nerves.

Getting ‘ripped’ can feel like a never-ending struggle on a viciously-inclined treadmill. But in this information-saturated era, the problem isn’t that we don’t know what to do, it’s that we can’t muster the willpower to do it.
Hence the inflexible, low carb diet trend, which has exploded into popularity in 2019, as people realised it’s easier to forbid yourself a whole food group than to trust yourself to dabble.
If this works for you; great.
However, if you do wish to continue running the gamut that is eating a non-restrictive diet in this deliciously tempting world, nutrition coach Max Lugavere has some tips that should keep you on the right path.

“I made this simple graphic to highlight some of the less obvious ways you may be holding on to extra lbs,” Max, the author of Genius Foods (and New York Times journalist) begins.
“Perhaps the most effective way to lose weight is to *not* go on a diet but to shift your lifestyle toward healthier habits. Yes, cutting out starchy carbs and processed foods which drive your hunger is a great primary strategy. But lifestyle also plays a major role in how our hormones regulate our weight.”
“While any calorie deficit will lead to weight loss,” Max adds, “lowering carbs keeps your hunger more stable by allowing your blood sugar to stay consistent… [and also] allows you to enjoy higher levels of growth hormone which helps to preserve your muscle.”
Another tip Max gives is (provided you are not showing signs of eating too much of it) to increase your protein intake, which “not only induces greater satiety than fat and carbs but… stimulates muscle protein synthesis and also provides a greater thermic effect which causes your metabolism to ramp up.”

Finally, Max encourages you to add healthy fats to your diet for greater satiety, and for “filling out your calories,” adding the caveat that “the calories in fat can still add up leading to a hypercaloric (more calories than you are burning though) state” if you take this one too far.
Entendido? Your sculpted abs await.

A glistening six-pack. A tantalising vee. Sculpted shoulderblades. We could go on, but in this physique obsessed world, we hardly need to. We all know the score: fitness is a goal to either maintain or covet.
But is counting calories the way to go about it?
Even if you have a top of the range fitness tracker, if you’re only using it to watch your kilojoules combust; you won’t be maximising your workouts.
That’s according to Sydney-based personal trainer Liam Chenery.
Looking through the Instagram photos of the Bondi Fitness First trainer, we’re inclined to believe him. So, what’s his secret? According to Liam, the key to supersizing your shred is tracking your steps instead of counting your calories.
View this post on Instagram
While everyone from The Economist to The New York Times has reported that calorie counting is a nutritionally-flawed concept, Liam goes a step further and tells us that it can hurt your fitness too.
“Forget calories burnt, I use fitness trackers to track steps,” Liam says, explaining calorie counting doesn’t take into account “things such as adaptation…or the body adapting to stimulus.”
How does this work? Liam explains it like this: “You could go for a run and your activity tracker [sic] says you burnt 100 calories during that run. Yet; do that exact same run twice a week for 12 weeks and you will become a lot more efficient at running and be burning fewer calories – however, your activity tracker may still read the 100 calories burnt (when it could now only be 75 calories).”
“So it can give a false reading and not be consistent with the correct information.”
“This is why I focus on steps,” Liam adds, “as it is consistent, and you can manipulate it during a fat loss phase. For instance, “If you do 10,000 steps per day, after 12 weeks, if your activity tracker reads 10,000 – you know you should have done that amount of steps or similar movement to the first week,” he tells us.

The takeaway? If you are improving at whatever activity you are tracking (and you really should be); make sure to focus the tracker in the direction of steps, not calories, and the results will run for themselves.

Saudi Arabia is now hiring influencers to boost their kingdom’s popularity after, among other things, last year’s murder of The Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Of course, its government’s actions in Yemen, as well as other cultural factors (and the fact that it’s exceedingly difficult to get a visa) mean Saudi Arabia has never been Amalfi-coast popular.
However, as Bloomberg reported last week, Instagram influencers like Los Angeles-based travel blogger Aggie Lal have been invited to give Saudi Arabia a social media facelift, as the kingdom prepares to make tourist visas available for the first time later this month.
“Her 10-day tour was arranged by Gateway KSA, a program that started offering tours two years ago and is funded by Saudi corporate sponsorship. It’s hosted by Prince Turki Al-Faisal, a former intelligence chief who later had a short stint as Saudi ambassador to the U.S. following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks,” Bloomberg reported.
Bloomberg also divulged that Prince Mohammed, crown prince of Saudi Arabia, has “loosened social restrictions and championed events including a concert by French DJ David Guetta at a motor racing festival also attended by influencers.”
However, even though Gateway KSA operates in the private sector, the fact that its sponsors include state-controlled Saudi Telecom, Saudi Basic Industries, and Saudi Arabian Airlines has drawn scathing criticism online, with many of Aggie Lal’s followers calling her involvement “insensitive” and “cheap.”
“Kinda insensitive,” one wrote. “If money was accepted from the government to further the political agendas of improving the country’s image. Is this not sneaky government-sponsored propaganda, or am I mistaken?”
“This country that paid you to promote it kills innocent people and mostly children in YEMEN for years now, kills women for stupid reasons, killed a journalist and now you are there telling us… to visit? SHAME ON YOU,” wrote another.
“Ummmmm…. what? You do realize how oppressive that government is, right? How you’re a pawn right now,” another remarked.
Others asked her to consider how her “influencer life” would have panned out had she been born in Saudi Arabia, and slammed her caption in which she explains how hard it was to choose whether or not to accept Gateway KSA’s offer.
“Well, money helps to decide right?”
However, despite receiving a deluge of criticism, Lal stayed strong, asking her followers to trade their “cleverness” for “bewilderment” and posing a question that leads into an age-old debate.
“If you wanted to help women in Saudi have better human rights would you boycott visiting the country OR would you encourage all women around the world to travel there to connect, get to meet and make friends with and listen to the needs of Saudi women so we can help each other out?”

In any case, as Bloomberg points out, “[Photoshoots like] this would have been inconceivable in Saudi Arabia five years ago, when religious police roamed the streets shouting at women to cover up.”
Enter 2019 and they are now choosing the scantily-clad demi gods of Instagram (yes, Jay Alvarrez got in on the action too) to spruik their kingdom.

Black jeans are a wardrobe essential for all men; their versatility, practicality and ability to be easily styled make them one of the most important items any man can own. They first came about in the 1950s when Levi Strauss decided to revamp its iconic denim by dying them different colours, black being one of them.
Since then, the best black jeans have formed the foundation of many wardrobes and styles for celebrities and Average Joes alike.
How to choose black jeans
To get the perfect black jeans for you, you’ll need to consider three key factors; fit, colour and style. Do you prefer a wider, roomier cut? Or a more athletic, modern slim fit? Remember that black makes you look slimmer so if you’re a smaller guy go for a looser fit and if you’re bigger, go for something tighter, but not too tight!
Colour is also something you should consider. Black jeans don’t just come in one uniform ‘black’ colour; instead, they come in an array of different shades and washes. If you’re looking for something classic, go for a strong dark black without any wash to it. Truly dark black jeans will be easy to style and will look sharp as part of almost any outfit.
You should also consider the style of the jeans. As with colour, there are many different style variations when it comes to black jeans. Some have frayed ends, some have rips and tears. There really is an endless selection of styles to choose from. Depending on your personal style you might want something edgier like a ripped knee or more clean-cut without any ‘damage’, for a timeless and versatile look.
Of the hundreds and thousands of different variations of black jeans out there today, the last factor you need to consider is quality. The extensive choice might seem like a good thing, but the reality is there are a lot of awful black jeans out there that won’t last you even six months.
To help mitigate this problem for you, we’ve delved deep into the backlogs of online retailers and selected the black jeans for men (you can thank us later).

Eddie Redmayne hit the 2019 Toronto Film Festival this week to attend the premiere of his new movie, The Aeronauts. In this new British film, Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones play a 19th-century scientist and hot-air balloonist in 1862 London trying to make aviation history by going to new heights. For the occasion, Eddie wore a unique take on the classic black and white ‘Derby Day’ outfit, opting for an Alexander McQueen single-breasted houndstooth suit. This incredibly cool and daring suit was paired with a classic white shirt and a skinny black tie.Interestingly, we’ve not seen super skinny ties in men’s fashion for a few years. So perhaps this is the beginning of a return to mod-inspired fashion? In any case, Eddie’s suit’s trousers were also perfectly tailored and complimented with a pair of black lace-up oxfords. The man who doesn’t age rarely puts a foot wrong and this was just another moment of sartorial brilliance.
This daring Alexander Mcqueen suit is currently available on Farfech for $3,300. A more affordable version can be found at ASOS for $170. We would choose the real thing, but it can’t be Christmas every day.

The traditional stock market is known as a (fairly) reliable investment practically guaranteed to deliver a profit in the long term. Bitcoin, however, is known for being a quick hit pyramid scheme that could either drain your bank account or make you rich.
New analysis from Bitcoin Economics.io, however, suggests those hoping to make a fast buck on Bitcoin may be mistaken.
The stats indicate that Bitcoin (BTC) holders make a profit after an average of 1,335 days, which equates to about three years and eight months.
How long do you have to hold Bitcoin to make a 100% sure profit? According to my analysis it is 1335 days or 3 years and 8 months. pic.twitter.com/Dt1FIMIAvz
— BitcoinEconomics.io (@BitcoinEcon) September 8, 2019
So much for that money fountain.
That said, the data roughly correlates to the four-year cycle length based on reward halving periods and – as Crypto New Media explains – “While a 100% sure profit would have taken a maximum of 1,335 days, this relates to the bull run in late 2013, when Bitcoin price surged to $1,150.”
“Buying in right at the top would have meant it took until early 2017 before BTC finally broke that level again,” Crypto New Media added. “Missing the peak of that rally would have resulted in a substantially reduced wait for a profit.”
“Holding Bitcoin for 317 days would have given a 75% chance of profit. There was a 60% chance of profit if Bitcoin was held for 35 days, and the likelihood that you were up over any single day was 50%.”
For comparison: to get a sure profit on the fiat stock market, an investor would have needed to hold their position for 23 years.
Not only that but as Crypto New Media points out, “This analysis purely looks at the chance of profit and not the scale of that profit.” So when Bitcoin is on a bull run, its profits will dwarf those achievable on stock market indices.
Alright, we’ll give you that.
However, before you get all googly-eyed (and start filling your purse with Bitcoin) remember that – with their over-reliance on trading for value, among other things – crypto investments still carry a much higher risk of falling flat on their face than legacy ones – at least for the time being.
