They say there’s a little bit of magic in Bali – but in recent years Qantas travellers looking for extra glamour on their way over have found it in the sparkling Airport Lounge rather than in the old Boeing 737’s that serviced the Sydney-Denpasar route.
Much like a steady boyfriend, these jets do the job. But competition has increased. Champagne is now expected and not impressive. Consumers have a wandering eye. And we all want to fly completely flat – something which Boeing 737’s just don’t offer.
Enter the Airbus A330: a newer jet which has now been assigned to the Sydney-Bali corridor, meaning Business Class travellers can finally lie as supine as they like.

We recently had the good fortune to road test one of these seats on a QF43 flight from Sydney to Denpasar, at the invitation of Qantas.

Thanks to the A330’s 1-2-1 layout, every passenger now has direct aisle access – a feature the smaller 737’s lacked. Dubbed The Vantage XL, the seats on the Qantas A330 are made by Thompson Aero Seating, developed via extensive ergonomic trials and inflight monitoring, as well as ongoing feedback from customers.

The new configuration (and style of seat) also gives you more space to store your belongings, eat, work and watch movies (on a larger 16″ inflight entertainment screen) with crazy comfort and privacy.

This is a welcome development for customers travelling from Sydney to Bali of an evening on the QF43 (which typically departs Sydney around 4:30pm and arrives in Bali at 9:30pm), giving them the opportunity to indulge in a pre-landing power nap after their movie and dinner.
It’s also a game-changer for passengers who want to get some sleep on the overnight return QF44 trip – a flight which typically leaves Bali around 10:30pm (local time) and arrives in Sydney at approximately 6:30am.

And another bonus: the increase in the number of Business Class seats (the old 737’s had 12; the A330’s have 28) means that there should be more pointy end tickets available for travellers looking to use their Frequent Flyer points to get an upgrade.
Although domestic tourism is on the rise in the Asia Pacific region, Australian travellers still account for around 20% of all visitors to Bali (a figure which increased 6.8% between 2017 and 2018), with 1.17 million Aussies visiting the island in 2018.
With this upgrade to the Sydney-Denpasar route (and Bali’s growing popularity as a destination for premium travel), Qantas is betting that the number of Australian luxury-seeking travellers flying to Bali will continue to increase.
Oh and—for the nostalgic customers who still have a pair of Qantas PJ’s from their first ever Business Class flight—don’t worry: the 737’s are not going to be killed off; just re-assigned to shorter, less luxury demanding routes.

Prepare the laser beams. No, seriously. This morning Amazon founder and billionaire entrepreneur Jeff Bezos debuted a mock-up of his new lunar lander spacecraft which is aiming to transport humans and exploration equipment to the moon by 2024.
“It’s time to go back to the Moon, this time to stay,” Bezos announced to the audience at the Washington Convention Centre in DC. His space exploration company called Blue Origin spruiked the Blue Moon lunar as a handy device but what caught our attention is how uncanny this plan was to one that already existed back in 1999. Enter Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. For those who need a refresher, the film involved the villainous Dr. Evil setting up a moon base with lasers that could fire at cities in order to hold the world ransom (for 1 million dollars).
Whilst there was no official confirmation that Bezos wanted to set up laser beams that could fire at Earth, he did admit that he wanted to improve access to the moon because he has a vision for future civilisation to be able to work and live on the moon. “The price of admission to do interesting things in space right now is just too high because there’s no infrastructure,” he said. Bezos continued to illustrate his plan of space living to the audience but we’ve found a better way to do it.
Behold, Dr. Evil’s master plan in the making…in the real world. Step one: perfect the villainous laugh.
Even the memes have begun predicting Bezos’ intentions…
Us too, Dr. Evil Mr. Bezos. But the dead give away is the rendered promo video for Bezos’ Blue Moon Lander…
Which bears a striking narrative to Dr. Evil’s moon launch (sans penis jokes). It really is art imitating life in a bid to conquer planets.
You’ve been officially warned. The end is nigh. But hey, maybe you’ll still be able to score a bargain on steam cleaners from the moon’s detention camp.

Always bet on pink. Or maybe not, unless your name is Nicholas Hoult. At the red carpet premiere of his new film Tolkien, the 29-year-old X-Men actor did something most men wouldn’t dare to pull off – a baby pink suit from the latest Dior collection complete with baby pink sneakers.
The suit itself is a unique design let alone the colour. It features a single button double breasted jacket design which keeps things looking rather clean on Hoult. This minimalist approach is further extended with the omission of a pocket square and tie. In its place was a crispy white shirt buttoned all the way to the top.
For those wanting to try this daring look, the entire outfit hails from Dior Men’s Spring 2019 collection by Kim Jones – including the signature tailleur oblique jacket which is sure to turn heads. And the sneakers? Dior Men by Kim Jones B24 sneakers in light pink. Godspeed, you stylish space monkey.
Just remember to keep those sneakers squeaky clean.

Men, it’s time you upgrade from your supermarket bargains and invest in some truly great body washes. It’s time to throw out your plain soap on a rope, and those cheap bottles of body wash that double up as shampoo, paint thinner and car engine oil.
Instead, you should be investing in dedicated body washes that won’t dry out your skin, leave you itchy, or leave you smelling like a second-rate dishwashing detergent.
How to use men’s body wash
So how does one use body wash properly? Think of it like soft wash hand soap but for your entire body – just don’t use it on your hair like shampoo (we know soap guys do this) unless the bottle specifically says the body wash can be used on hair. You can apply some to your hands and rub yourself down before giving it a rinse or if you want to be more thorough, apply it to a washcloth or loofah.
Rub it onto your wet skin in circular motions and apply as required. Once you’re done, rinse off and the job is finished – you’ll smell like a million bucks without all the itchy red rashes, and you’ll find that with just a few uses your skin will be blemish-free and the softest it’s been in years!

Though Bitcoin took a 2.3 per cent hit on Wednesday — down to $US6,101 — industry experts are buoyant thanks to a recovery since it hit a nadir in December and January.
The price of Bitcoin has risen 90 per cent since it hit lows of $US3,216 in mid-December, a rise supported by institutional investors which had been reticent to back cryptocurrencies.
The world has been waiting for Fidelity Investments, one of the world’s biggest asset managers with more than $US7 trillion under management, to fully launch a digital assets platform which will allow their clients to begin trading cryptocurrencies.
It could start within a few weeks, but in the meantime the fund manager has published research proving institutional support is here to stay: 47 per cent of institutional investors view digital assets as having a place in their investment portfolios, according to Fidelity.
Apollo Capital partner Henrik Andersson says the Fidelity launch, combined with news that brokers E-Trade and Ameritrade are beginning to dabble in cryptocurrency trading, proves the tide has turned.
“It has taken a while to get out of the crypto winter but we are now well and truly into crypto spring,” he told Stockhead.
“The report from Fidelity outlining the high percentage of institutions looking at the space is really encouraging, particularly when you consider it is also increasing exposure for retail investors as well through E-Trade, Ameritrade and support from some of the world’s biggest social media companies as well.”
“I think we will see Bitcoin sitting somewhere between $6,000 and $10,000 by the end of the year.”
Momentum is slower, however, over at the NYSE which is still waiting for the green light from the SEC to launch its Bakkt digital asset exchange, though Andersson believes it is still “very likely” to launch the service within the next three to six months.
There are similar problems for Ledger’s partnership with Japanese bank Nomura, which may have to wait until 2020 before its digital assets solution is launched.
Andersson said ongoing concerns regarding security were hurt by the recent battle between stablecoin Tether and crypto exchange Bitfinex.

If rolling across the Hume Highway at 407km/h sounds like your idea of a leisurely Sunday cruise then we’ve found the right car for you.
Classic Throttle Shop in North Sydney have just listed a rare 2008 Bugatti Veyron for sale in their inventory and it has a price tag to match its excessive number of cylinders. For a cool AU$2,700,000 you can take ownership of this stunning creation from Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S., a name which was bought out by the Volkswagen Auto Group back in 1998 (no, your Golf is still a VW).
So what are you getting for this serious amount of coin? One of 450 units of the 2008 Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 ever made and originally delivered to Germany. The left-hand-drive vehicle was ordered in Black with Bleu de France inlets, complemented by the two-tone Cream and Nautic blue leather interior. This one has 15,938km on the clock.
Under the bonnet requires no introduction either. There’s an 8.0-litre W16 engine (16-cylinders) firing along with the help of four turbochargers and 10 radiators for optimum cooling. This is enough to see the car reach 1,001HP from factory with all the power being sent to the wheels via a Haldex AWD system.
Given a car of such extreme nature, bespoke tyres were called upon in the form of Michelin PAX run-flat tyres, designed specifically to accommodate the Veyron’s extreme top speed. Our recommendation if you’re going to put a deposit down on this car?
Don’t scratch the wheels or damage the tyres as a new set from Bugatti will set you back US$150,000 – or US$100,000 if you can find a set second hand on eBay. The sale includes the original Bugatti handbooks and keys as well as a recent major service. You can put down your deposit over at Classic Throttle Shop now.

Sit the hell down, finish your food, proceed to walk. It’s a simple rule to follow but apparently in Japan the locals are struggling to get this message across to heady tourists without offending them.
In Japan the act of eating whilst walking is considered rude as it goes against the etiquette of “ikkai ichi dousa” – a Japanese phrase similar to doing “one thing at a time”. Eat and walk on the streets of Japan and you can expect a public lashing…of many frowns. The latest Japanese tourist hotspot to experience this onslaught of the walking fed is the iconic Nishiki Market in Kyoto.
For more than 400 years the market has played a vital role in being the kitchen for Kyoto with its vast offering heirloom vegetables, fresh fish and pickled vegetables. These days thanks to the tourist boom, more of the stores have begun selling fast food on skewers and it’s here that problems have begun to rise, according to the Japan Times.
Litter now lines the narrow street of the market and locals have growing concerns of pedestrians getting impaled by sharp food sticks wielded by unweary tourists (another market with the same problem states that it can ruin other peoples’ clothes). It might sound like a stretch, but considering the five block long shopping street lined with over a hundred shops sees thousands of visitors a day, it’s a genuine cause for concern.
Of course the Japanese will rarely tell you to your face that you’re an asshole. So instead the market association has asked store owners to display signs saying “No eating while walking” in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean. This is more of a warning than an outright ban as they don’t want to drive tourists away.
“We can’t ban the act of eating while walking,” as this is one of the ways to enjoy sightseeing, said Norikazu Takahashi, 76, president of the store association. “We want to make the street a place where both travellers and residents can feel good,” he told the newspaper.
If you’re unsure, the general rule is that people should eat and drink their food outside the store of purchase before they proceed on their journey. They should also keep litter with them or dump it in the trash cans/bins outside of stores as there are rarely any of them lining the streets.
