Roger Federer’s New Sneaker Deal Reveals Why Top Athletes Are Leaving Big Brands
Roger Federer’s New Sneaker Deal Reveals Why Top Athletes Are Leaving Big Brands

Celebrity endorsements are incredibly important for apparel brands, with sportspeople in particular paid bucketloads to wear their clothes.

Nike and Adidas are inarguably the big dogs of the sportswear world and drop serious cash to help keep them on top of the pile: Nike has spent billions keeping LeBron James and Cristiano Ronaldo in their fold, whilst Adidas has found success with names like Lionel Messi, Ellyse Perry and Angelique Kerber. Signature sneaker models like the Nike Air Jordan and Adidas Stan Smith have transcended their sporting origins and become genuine fashion icons, too.

Getting an endorsement from either Herzogenaurach or Beaverton used to be a dream for athletes, but in 2020 more and more sportsmen and women are eschewing the big two in favour of deals with smaller players – with Switzerland’s greatest export since the Omega Speedmaster leading the charge.

Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer’s latest partnership with rising sportswear brand On has been a huge paradigm shift for athlete endorsements. Federer’s deal with the Swiss brand is more than just your usual endorsement, too – Federer has invested an undisclosed sum into the company and appears to be taking a fairly active role in the business beyond just advertising.

On has quickly gained a cult following among runners for the quality of their sneakers, but On’s latest exploit is a signature model for Federer. As opposed to a tennis court-focused shoe or the high-performance runners the brand has built its reputation on, “The Roger” is a classic white sneaker especially designed for casual comfort that’s been given a special limited release. It’s an adroit marketing tactic for the brand; one that’s been used by the big players before to drum up hype: artificial scarcity + celebrity endorsement + novel technology = shoes selling like hotcakes.

A post shared by On (@on_running) on

Getting Federer on board was a masterstroke for On. Not only does he have a strong personal brand underpinned by immense skill, integrity and likeableness, but as an investor as well as an endorser, he’ll work hard to ensure the brand continues to succeed.

The advantage that a small brand like On has over the big traditional players (Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Reebok, Lacoste etc.) is that they can devote more time and care to their athletes. When Federer was with Nike, he shared the spotlight with other tennis players like Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Simona Halep and Nick Kyrgios. Now, he can demand On’s undivided attention.

Other athletes have also explored alternative sponsors for collaboration. British tennis great Andy Murray recently inked a deal with British clothing brand Castore, and NBA superstar Steph Curry’s deal with Under Armour has done wonders for both him and the UA brand.

It has also forced the more established sportswear brands to up their game in regards to what they can offer athletes. Without trying to come off too libertarian, this sort of healthy free-market competition will ultimately improve the technologies that underpin modern sportswear and lead to a better product for both athletes and consumers.

Game, set, match.

Drone Spots Great White Shark In Waters Off Famous Sydney Beach
Drone Spots Great White Shark In Waters Off Famous Sydney Beach

Backpackers sipping schnapps. Lifeguards hauling tourists onto rescue boards. Surfers shredding. Models tanning. Sunbakers vociferously defying social distancing.Bondi, Australia’s most iconic beach, is known for a lot of things. But it’s not really known for sharks. There are a few reasons for that: other than not fitting super well into tourism campaigns, it’s true that, for some reason or another, apart from a spell in 2009, Sydney has been relatively lucky when it comes to shark attacks. However, drone footage taken in waters just off Bondi Beach this morning (in Bronte, the next beach down, moving south) proves why, though there’s no reason to be alarmed (sightings happen every year), you should never get complacent about what’s under the surface.Shot by Drone Shark App videographer Jason Iggleden, and posted on his Instagram story, the footage shows what first appears to be a group of 3-4 Bronze Whalers heading towards Bronte around 8:30am.“It’s been an eventful morning,” Jason says.

On closer inspection, Jason spots “a large unit” amongst them, which he tells DMARGE exclusively, there’s “a good chance” was a 2.8m Great White.“I can’t 100% guarantee it but… the nose is pointy and the movement… like I said… [appears to be that of a Great White].”For comparison, he then posts a video of how a Bronze Whaler swims, in a “more agile” fashion.Speaking to DMARGE, Jason explains how he reacts to these sightings: “Any shark other than a Grey Nurse shark I have been informed by council to inform Lifeguards if they become close to beachgoers and especially if they’re amongst the salmon.”

“50% of surfers stay in if it’s a Bronze Whaler but if it’s a Great White they all get out.”

Jason, who is out filming almost every day, also tells us these sightings, for him at least, don’t happen too often: “Bronze Whalers have only shown up in the last couple of weeks. Prior to that I didn’t see one since last year and it all depends on the salmon for all sharks.”

“The one this morning is not 100% confirmed a Great White but I’m pretty confident it was by the movement. The last time I saw a Great White was back in May last year 2019.”

This morning’s is also not the biggest Pointer he’s seen. “[The] biggest shark I’ve seen is a Great White at Tamarama January 2019; it was 3.5m to 4m long,” Jason tells us.This sighting comes in a context where scientists and surfers are faced with rising incidents of shark attacks on the NSW North Coast.According to a 2015 report, though, there hasn’t been an unprovoked shark attack fatality in the Sydney region since 1963.On why Sydney, so far, has been so fortunate, Jason says: “That’s a good question but maybe it’s a little bit deeper water and a little murky [up the coast]. It’s a lot cleaner around here that’s the only thing I can put it down to.”We’ll leave this for the experts (and surfers) to debate.

Get Ryan Gosling's Effortless Style In Five Easy Steps
Get Ryan Gosling's Effortless Style In Five Easy Steps

Ryan Gosling is a dark horse. As an actor, country boy charm in The Notebook got him noticed with the ladies. But it wasn’t until Blue Valentine and Gangster Squad – where he rocked the black leather jacket and then cracked skulls in a corporate suit – that Gosling earned the on-screen respect from his male peers.

Sealing the deal, he took the wheel and set pulses racing in Drive, carving out his bad-boy persona in retro glory – with a minimum of fuss. And when it comes to style, his clothing remains as effortlessly on par – no acting here.

Here a five of Gosling’s major looks – hard, quick and fast.

Breaking It Down

Gosling is king of casual wear. He keeps things minimal, simple and nostalgically American with a taste for white tees and washed out faded jeans. Tailored pieces are mostly bold in colour and often come subtly printed. Off-duty, he is one of those rare guys who knows how to rock singlets without looking like a douche, and can add some Euro class at the click of his finger – snap – a chino-blazer look is born, ready for the yacht.

He favours no-tie looks on the red carpet, likes to roll his sleeves and isn’t shy on accessorising with chains and all kinds of eyewear. In summary, Ryan Gosling’s style is much like his movie career. He dips into mainstream culture, but he’s quite indie at heart. And he’s always up for a leading role that requires a suave tux or dapper suit – just don’t force him to wear a tie.

Key Ryan Gosling Approved Looks

Step 1: Invest In Denim Jackets & Shirts

With a penchant for American retro, Gosling’s go-to casual jacket is the denim jacket. Replicating a vintage trucker, the actor smartens the relaxed cropped jacket with tapered jeans or chinos in natural, earthy tones: khaki, brown and denim.

Washed out boots base out the 50s aviator look, opting for monochrome black tees for sophisticated nights and a bit of pattern with a light-print tee for the day. Double denim also flies well – layering a jean-shirt, casually open at the neck.

Step 2: Invest In Bold Suits

Gosling was wearing coloured tuxedos back in 2011, before Redmayne and Leto were sporting them on the red carpet at the Oscars 2015. He attended the premiere of Drive during the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival in a custom-made shawl collared two-button tuxedo, which fit him to perfection.

Gosling likes detail, opting for pipe-lined pockets and cross-hatched fabric for extra luxury. The maroon number pictured was from the same event – this time with a peaked lapel and statement rose gold time-piece.

Step 3: Invest In Fitted White T-Shirts

Plain white tees are a staple wardrobe piece, from the studio to street, for Gosling. Channelling a modern James Dean with a broody, focused stare, the simple casual top is worn as a Henley (open button neck) or scoop neck for extra movement (just don’t go super v-neck as man cleavage is not attractive). Chuck on a chain-of-choice with a pendant that adds sentimental value. Slim fit jeans and tan hiker boots complete the urban chill.

Step 4: Ditch The Tie For Black Tie

Stripping back formal looks is seen with Gosling’s no-tie style. But the actor gives the events a certain respect via clean single-breasted suiting with matte navy hues or grainy brown wool. Texture is everything for the Gosling suit, layered with a crisp-white shirt that sits slim and flat – worn fully button to the neck. Gosling’s collar is sharply pressed to make the look chic, so make sure you learn how to iron a dress shirt like a real man before you try this look.

Step 5: Invest In Statement Shirts & Knitwear

Unafraid of colour, Gosling rocks big printed shirts and knits at events and in the street. Bright coloured polo shirts, argyle knit patterns and shirts with piping and prints are just some of the ways Ryan adds personal flair to his suits and smart casual looks. Start by building your look with a bold coloured suit (i.e. Gosling Green) and add a light yellow Ralph Lauren polo shirt or jump of to Pringle of Scotland to get your argyle patterned knitwear.

Ryan Gosling Fashion Essentials

Dress Shirts & Denim Shirts

Loyal to white, button up shirts are kept classic-coloured under suits and blazers. The Paul Smith white cotton dress shirt is the richest of these. Keeping up with Gosling’s open-neck, rolled sleeved job a lighter fabric is best. Go the Canali linen shirt. Gosling takes his tees seriously so he expects solid wear. Calvin Klein’s Genta cotton-blend jersey tee is perfect crew neck simplicity. For the henley, look to Nudie Jeans’ fairtrade organic cotton-jersey shirt, in keeping with Gosling’s indie vibe.

Jackets

The Balmain varsity jacket in wool twill shine is the closest thing to that luxe coat in Drive, and for monochrome black, Dolce and Gabanna’s Soutache bomber with trim is best. For blazers, linen wears best for Gosling’s regular trips to Cannes so go for Thom Sweeney’s Curzon slim-fit.

A Killer Tuxedo

If there’s one thing Ryan Gosling knows how to do, it’s wear a god damn tuxedo like a champion.

Bold Suits

Attending the film premieres, Gosling favors Italian tailor Salvatore Ferragamo. He wore a blue custom-made shawl collared two-button tuxedo for Drive, which fit him to perfection. For regular suiting needs, Gosling is Gucci-hooked.

Wild Knitwear

Gosling is a fan of knitwear with played-down fair isle print. Moncler’s intarsia-knit sweater is an après-ski version of this. And to get the actor’s cashmere cardigan in grey, look to J.Crew.

Influencer’s ‘Outrageous’ Disrespect For Rare $20,000 Sneakers Sends Hypebeasts Into Meltdown
Influencer’s ‘Outrageous’ Disrespect For Rare $20,000 Sneakers Sends Hypebeasts Into Meltdown

Nike’s forthcoming collaboration with storied French grand couturier Christian Dior has been one of the most hyped fashion drops of 2020, and perhaps of recent memory: combining Dior’s impeccable materials and handcrafted luxury with the iconic design of the Air Jordan I was a masterstroke for the two style icons.Unfortunately, huge hype attracts huge flogs. Enter: good time lover, controversial influencer and YouTuber Jake Paul, who posted a video with his Dior x Nike Air Jordans that has sneakerheads fuming.Paul shared a clip on his Instagram of him eating cereal out of his $20,000 pair of ‘Air Diors’. To add insult to injury, the cereal’s a limited edition box of Reese’s Puffs produced in collaboration with rapper Travis Scott, the hyped cereal selling for upwards of $50 on the aftermarket.

So the new $20,000 Dior X Air Jordan taste good right? @Jakepaul

A post shared by Rich Kids Of The Internet (@rkoi) on

The move did not go down well online. From “no money can buy class” to “you should grow up,” many followers of the Rich Kids Of The Internet Instagram page (where the video was reposted) were up in arms, making their feelings known in the comments.

“Who gives a shit how much they cost, it’s fucking stupid to eat outta sneakers.”

Disrespecting a brand-new shoe like this in such an egregious way is outrageous enough, but to do it to such rare sneakers is particularly offensive.Dior’s only made 8,500 pairs of these sneakers, making this a particularly limited release. On top of that, the Air Dior capsule’s release has been delayed by COVID-19, raising the rarity of the sneakers already on the market.Paul and his brother Logan have made careers out of being controversial. After both growing to notoriety on the now-defunct social media app Vine, they’ve since branched out to film, TV and even boxing. While both have legions of young online fans, both have reputations for flirting – too far – with controversy, relying on that to get attention rather than truly creative ideas. Most notoriously, Logan posted footage on YouTube of a suicide victim’s corpse during a trip he made to Japan, and Jake was recently (allegedly) filmed looting during the 2020 LA riots (despite having a net worth of over $11 million). How did Paul get his hands on a pair of these sneakers, then? In a classic luxury fashion marketing move, celebrities and influencers have been drip-fed Air Dior sneakers ahead of the mainstream release in order to build up hype. Either Paul got special access, or he dropped bulk cash on them (or both, most likely) – making this mistreatment of the sneakers even more painful for sneaker fans.DMARGE spoke exclusively to stock expert and sneakerhead Adrian Monardo, Customer Success Manager at Stake, to explore what this clip reveals about sneaker culture.“It’s not surprising to see young influencers take part in stunts like this.,” Monardo relates.“Jake gets a lot of clout and publicity by defacing one of the most exclusive and hyped sneakers out right now.”While Paul’s nonchalance has got sneakerheads fuming, it’s unlikely to change the demand for the collaboration.“Given how sought after the shoe is, with resale prices in the 5 digit range, it’s hard to suggest that Jake Paul alone has the power to move the price of the sneaker.  Like stocks, the resale price of the sneaker is the equilibrium of supply and demand for it. Sure, Jake is bringing more attention to the shoe but it’d be hard to suggest that he’s bringing enough attention to truly affect demand. More eyes on the shoe certainly can’t diminish its value though.”

A post shared by Dior Official (@dior) on

The Air Diors have a retail price of $3,000 but as previously mentioned it’s impossible to find a pair retailing right now: the few pairs available on the aftermarket have an insane mark-up. Spending such a huge amount of money on a pair of basketball shoes might seem crazy to some, but Monardo explains that it’s all part and parcel of the sneaker scene.“Trends heavily influence the entire market, particularly the stock price. Your sneaker collection and the US stock market are both home to some of the world’s most iconic brands and are influenced by global trends and supply and demand. If the trend is popular, it’s likely that brands will continue to mimic the design in an attempt to accelerate overall company worth.”Normal sneakerheads already struggle to get their hands on limited releases, between the rampant online botting, backdooring for friends and family at retail locations, not to mention the influencers and the wealthy getting sneaky pre-releases. As we mentioned at the start of this piece, Paul desecrating such a hyped pair of shoes has gone down terribly online. Some other choice comments include:“Please, take a million and try to buy a brain” – @panchoparra“@dior at least send the kicks to someone who respects em 🤦🤷‍♂️” – @kothari96We couldn’t agree more.If you’re interested in learning more about how the stock market and sneaker aftermarket are more similar than you think, and how to get the best out of trading on both of them, Adrian Monardo’s sharing more of his insights at this exclusive Stake x Butter event, which you can register for here.

Defiant Photo Suggests France’s ‘Flirty’ Culture Hasn’t Changed Since Lockdown

Flirting is risky. Smile at a new face and the possibilities are endless: tickled ego, a devastating blow to your confidence, a date, it’s a lucky dip.But if you don’t want to watch Netflix solo, putting yourself out there is a necessary evil – one the French, stereotype dictates, revel in with repressed Catholic fervour.Over the last four months, this ~forever alone~ concept has been driven home worldwide, with all the subtlety of a dodgy internet vibrator.Come March, those shacked up with a new beau were laughing all the way to Durex, while those who remained single… weren’t.Fast forward to now and different countries are coming out of lockdown at different rates. As such, those still trussed up at home (oh hey, America) may be curious about what flirting (and dating) looks like for countries further down the line.Enter: the following photo, taken in the heart of Paris’ Marais quartier. Posted to Instagram yesterday by Paris-based photographer Patrick Colpron on Rue de Turenne, the shot suggests Parisians are getting back to their bustling ways.

Captioning the image, Colpron wrote: “I have way more fun looking at men looking at women than looking at women. That is because as discreet as they think they are… they definitely get busted each and every time, at each and every glance.”“It is inevitable, to be good at street photography you have to be great at anticipating how people will behave. Thankfully most people are no different than you and me, put yourself in someone else’s shoes and just react as they would to the environment they are in, react as yourself – 8.7 times out of 10, people will do exactly as you would.”

“Then you know how to make shots like these were [sic] a man standing in a doorway will definitely glance at the pretty woman walking down the street.”

In any case, from more classic street scenes…

I love the poster above the principal subject’s head. The uncropped version is slightly better, swipe left to see the uncropped version. Anyhoo what struck me was the guy on her left on his phone, out of the frame, her – on her phone and everyone around, on their phones. We have never been this connected to one another yet, is it just me or I kinda noticed is as connected as we are we seem to have never been so alone ever before. As such the question is, what’s wrong with this picture? Oh and I love this woman walking into my frame from the right, her eyes riveted to her smartphone. Elsewhere, people are having to resort to more inventive strategies to get their flirt (let alone date) on. London based journalist Nana Baah is one of them, revealing in April, for Vice, how flirting with the stranger in the house opposite her got her through lockdown.

“We smoke out of our windows at the same time. Sometimes, he winks at me.”

“It’s oddly intense – and under normal circumstances, I would find a wink creepy – but something about the interaction has kept me going back to the window each day,” she adds.“When I explain my situation to sex and relationship psychologist Lucy Snider… she says that the distance between my neighbour and I might actually be what’s so appealing to me. ‘You’ve got an intimate connection with somebody but you also have the freedom around not really knowing that person,’ she explains. ‘You don’t have to run the risk of getting close to them and them hurting you, while still enjoying that connection that we all need and crave.'”As for what it feels like to go from being scared to be within two metres of a stranger (during lockdown) to being allowed to catch up with your crush, another Vice article suggests it’s not necessarily as daunting as you might think.“For some, the idea of lockdown easing is terrifying. Going from wearing a face mask and gloves – and constantly using hand sanitiser – back into the dating world is daunting, too,” Vice reports.“But [interviewee] *Emily* (name changed) says that when lockdown lifted a lot of the anxiety around her health disappeared too. ‘On my part, there isn’t any anxiety around dating,’ she says. ‘Well, no more than wearing a condom because of an STI. There are no cases here [in New Zealand], so I’m not really worried about that aspect.’”Another Vice subject, *Caroline* (name also changed), who lives in Paris and moved in with her boyfriend when lockdown lifted, told Vice, “When [French PM Emmanuel] Macron announced the end of lockdown for May 11th, before we met, I was so nervous! Not about the coronavirus, but about us. Thinking: ‘Will it be good? Did I really miss him?’ – those kinds of questions.”

“It might be exciting to be able to kiss in bars and hold hands in museums again once social distancing is lifted, but Caroline cautions that making time for your friends as well as your relationship still requires some juggling. ‘We’re both working from home still, so we’re together all the time. But we’re still going out, drinking beers and seeing our friends and stuff,’ Caroline says. ‘It’s important for us to not be an old couple already!'”

You’ve been warned.

Kevin Hart Celebrates 41st Birthday At Sea, Debuting A Crisp Audemars Piguet Watch
Kevin Hart Celebrates 41st Birthday At Sea, Debuting A Crisp Audemars Piguet Watch

Kevin Hart is one of the most successful comedians of the 21st century. His legions of fans love him for his standup, film and TV appearances, but also because – unlike many comedians (looking at you, Gabriel Iglesias) – he’s a style icon.

Consistently well-dressed, Hart constantly impresses with his style choices. He’s also quite the watch fan, with a taste for the expensive stuff: Richard Mille, Patek Philippe, Rolex and of course Audemars Piguet making up the majority of watches in his million-dollar collection.

Hart reaffirmed his status as one of the best celebrity dressers this week, sharing his amazing birthday outfit on Instagram. Setting sail in Malibu on a superyacht with close family and friends for his 41st celebrations, the Philadelphia-born superstar shared a number of happy snaps showing off his beautiful family, as well as some designer clothes and a beautiful Audemars Piguet Royal Oak – a very apt birthday present, if you ask us.

This Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, ref. 26579CB.OO.1225CB.01, is constructed out of a beautiful white ceramic. Ceramic watches are seriously underrated and AP might be the best at making them: the lustrous, brittle ceramic looks great and is very light, but is incredibly hard to finish. It’s a testament to the iconic Swiss watchmaker’s craftsmanship.

Hart’s previously demonstrated a love for AP’s iconic Royal Oak line, having been spotted rocking a Royal Oak Selfwinding Openworked last year in New York.

This model is a particularly fine example of the breed, the brilliant white contrasting perfectly with the dark navy dial and making this AP a truly unique piece of wrist candy. It retails for 93,400 USD (134,600 AUD) but as it’s a ‘limited production’ piece, you’d be lucky to snap one of these up for anything below a cool 100k USD.

L: Kevin Hart enjoying the Malibu summer with his daughter Heaven Leigh and son Hendrix. R: Hart’s new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar.

Completing Hart’s summer look is a tasteful Thom Browne hoodie, shirt and shorts combo, as well as a triple-white pair of the hype-worthy Sacai x Nike LDV Waffle sneaker collaboration, as well as – in other shots (with the kids not present) – a cigar Stallone would be proud of.

Founded by Chitose Abe in 1999, Sacai is a luxury Japanese fashion label known for its idiosyncratic design. The LDV Waffles have a unique design, each shoe constructed like two slightly overlapping sneakers, with a double tongue, two sets of laces and a stacked midsole… Maybe that’s why notoriously short Hart was rocking them.

In any case, the super clean nautical-inspired outfit and timepiece just scream class.

Happy birthday, Kevin.

Rare Beachfront Mansion With ‘Ibiza Twist’ Goes Up For Sale On The Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a cancerous paradise. It’s also one of the most fun cities in Australia. The relaxed culture, glorious beaches, great weather and entertainment options make it one of our biggest tourist destinations, and fastest-growing cities. This property that’s just gone onto the market in Tugun, down the southern end of the Gold Coast, is another compelling reason to consider a move to the Holiday Strip. 662 Pacific Parade is a truly amazing beachfront mansion with enough amenities to give an Ibiza celebrity mansion a run for its money – and properties like this are few and far between, even in this glamorous area.“Due to a recent change in planning laws you can no longer build a house anywhere near the height of this house,” Madonna Delaney Real Estate notes.“The land has a 20m frontage to the beach, when the vast majority of Gold Coast B\beachfront homes only have a 10m frontage. The 20m frontage lots on Hedges Ave now sell for in excess of $11 million without a house, so this is truly a rare opportunity to secure a very unique Gold Coast showpiece beachfront home.”

Only 5min from Coolangatta Airport and near the M1 freeway to Brisbane, this property, simply named “Pacific”, could be the world’s best holiday house (or, for that matter, permanent house). The beauty of the Gold Coast is that you have all the amenities and convenience you get from living in a big city, but the friendliness and tranquility of a small coastal town, particularly in a southern suburb like Tugun. The Gold Coast has a permanent party vibe – the perfect antidote to the sh*tshow that is the world in 2020.That said, why would you even want to go out when your home’s already the perfect party location?

Pacific is four stories tall and has everything: a 5 car garage, huge kitchen, home theatre, multiple balconies, a firepit, and a stunning glass-edged pool with integrated sunbeds.Basically every room in this house has an ocean view, Pacific’s dramatic height and beachfront location providing dramatic vistas from every angle. The house itself is pretty to look at, too – having graced the cover of Queensland Homes magazine and due to be showcased soon on Channel 9’s Australia’s Best Homes.Pacific has 3 large bedrooms all with their own walk-in wardrobes and ensuites, but the master bedroom has the best feature of all: a stunning view from your bed out over the ocean. Nothing’s more romantic than seeing the sun rise from the comfort of your bed.

MMA Fighter’s Priceless Exchange With Troll Reveals Why Honesty Could Save Your Life
MMA Fighter’s Priceless Exchange With Troll Reveals Why Honesty Could Save Your Life

The two most famous Irishmen in UFC history, Conor McGregor and Paul Felder, are very different men – but both share a love of smack talk, as a recent Twitter exchange has revealed.

McGregor is a larger-than-life curmudgeon who’s spent his entire life fighting, starting off as a boxer before transitioning to MMA. Felder, intense with a heart of gold (who’s actually Irish-American) was known as a theatre actor before he was known as a UFC fighter and commentator.

Also unlike McGregor, Felder’s also happier to let cooler heads prevail, whether that’s in the octagon or on social media.

Felder just made headlines after a hilarious exchange with Canadian sports fan and Twitter troll @joshuaS_10, in the process proving how sometimes the twin virtues of honesty and cool headedness can serve you well in the long run.

Felder was copping heat from a number of different fans when our boy Josh decided to twist the knife. Felder responded specifically to Josh, gauding him into a fight. Josh then had the perfect rebuttal, to which all Felder could say was “fair enough”.

Both guys come off looking great here: Felder proves he’s not too insecure to let something go, and Josh’s brutal honesty is funnier and more disarming than simply arcing up to the celebrity he’s trying to troll.

Besides, even if the chance of a real-life interaction between the pair are a million to one, we understand why Josh might want to avoid fighting Felder, who’s currently #6 in the UFC Lightweight rankings.

It’s refreshing to see when social media comments are usually just a spiralling cesspool of people getting angrier and angrier, and trolls not knowing when enough’s enough. Many websites are moving away from public comments sections because they invariably encourage terrible behaviour, Crikey writes.

Less beef, more brutal honesty, we reckon.
