It’s 3pm on a Monday afternoon and you’re slowly scrolling your way to inbox zero. After all: you have a meeting at 4pm, so you don’t have time to get anything more than that done anyway. At 3:30 you decide—screw it—it’s time for today’s fourth coffee.Sound familiar? If so: you should take note of the following research, published in the Journal of Consumer Research, which explains why upcoming appointments make us useless at organising our time.Think about it: How many meetings do you go to every week? Although there is nothing you can do about all that time wasted in the actual meetings, scheduling them in the mornings could really improve your overall productivity, because we perceive time differently when it comes before a task or an appointment. How did they come to this conclusion? A series of studies demonstrated people are lazier and less efficient when they have an appointment coming up.“We figure something might come up, we might need some extra time, even when there’s no need to do that. As a result, we do less with the available time,” said Selin Malkoc, the co-author of the study. The results were gathered via an online survey of 198 people in which Malkoc and her colleagues asked participants to assess, both subjectively and objectively, the amount of time they had to read a book within one hour. To test the theory, half the group were told they had a friend dropping by at the end of the hour, while the other half were told they had no plans. Those who “had a friend coming by” gave themselves ten minutes less reading time on their subjective evaluation of time. Meanwhile, in the real world, the results held up too: across a group of people asked to pick between two paid studies—a 30-minute study paying $2.50 and a 45-minute study paying $5, participants who had upcoming appointments an hour after the start of either study were significantly more likely to pick the half-hour version, even though there was plenty of time to make the later appointment either way. This indicates if you want to work efficiently, it pays to get your appointments out of the way early, so they aren’t playing on your mind all day.Another experiment proved we don’t get as much done when we have something looming over us. Of 158 students who had been given an upcoming lab task, those given five minutes of free time and persistently reminded of the commitment achieved less in those five minutes than those who were simply told they had five minutes of free time.”
“You don’t feel like you can get as much done when you have a task coming up soon,” Malkoc said. “The time seems shorter.”
“We feel that if we have a meeting in two hours, we shouldn’t work on any big projects. So we may spend time just answering emails or doing things that aren’t as productive.” This is why on days full of meetings we feel like we have accomplished so little, Malkoc says.In light of this finding, you should try stacking your meetings together, she says. Or even better: schedule them all into the morning. She also recommends taking a second look at how much time you have between them—as you can probably get a lot more done than you first suspect.RELATED: Scientists Reveal The Working Hours That Won’t Harm Your Health

It caught crowds off guard last week and now Ferrari have shown off the spectacular looking SP38 in the flesh at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza.
The car was built and delivered to a single owner who is a dedicated supporter of the prancing horse. If the body looks familiar, you wouldn’t be wrong. The SP38 is based off the 488 GTB platform and wears custom carbon fibre body panels inspired by the F40, Ferrari’s quintessential 80s supercar.
Keen-eyed fans will notice the one-piece carbon fibre engine cowling which flips up to open like the F40’s. Even the rear wing design integrated into the body is a subtle nod to the boxier offering of the F40 and F50.
Other than that the SP38 wears a thin set of headlights which look a bit like the Lamborghini Huracan’s whilst sporting a lip that borrows from the 308 GTB. It’s a noticeable departure from the modern Ferrari design language of cars like the LaFerrari.
Under the hood, it’s assumed that the SP38 utilises the same 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 as the 488 GTB in a mid-engine format. This means 492kW of power and 760Nm of torque delivered to the rear wheels to get the car to 100km/h in 3 seconds flat.
On the inside it’s typical Ferrari fair with lashings of carbon fibre trim, Alcantara and contrast red highlights. Watch the video below to see all of the finer details of this unicorn.

The only thing better than a well-dressed man is a well-dressed man who isn’t afraid to step out of the box and knows how to make a fashion statement. We humans have a strong instinct towards self-preservation, which means we tend to stick with what’s familiar and safe. When you’re on a safari or hacking your way through the Amazonian rainforest, that inclination is a good thing. When it comes to fashion, it’s boring. Sure, you may commit a faux-pas here and there, but the only way to reach your full fashion potential is to be fearless.Next time you’re feeling daring, trying one of these style risks and prepare for glory.
Colour Blocking
Bold colours are high on the risk list for many men, which makes the colour blocking trend feel particularly daunting. Colour blocking uses two or more solid segments of colour in a single outfit in a mix of warm, cool, or complementary tones. Here is where the colour wheel from art class comes in handy. One approach to colour blocking blends shades from either a warm or cool palette, and anchors them with neutral tones. A second approach uses complementary/contrasting colours – opposites on the colour wheel – to give an outfit a bright but harmonious look.Don’t be afraid to pair clashing colours, but mix no more than 3 or 4 in one ensemble.
White Suit
Believe it or not, you can rock a white suit without looking like Colonel Sanders, John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, or anyone on the set of Miami Vice. It’s a dandified, devilishly stylish look that’s criminally underused.Think of it as the summer equivalent of your grey and navy suits – a neutral that’s seasonally-appropriate and versatile. As per usual, the suit must be well-fitted first and foremost. Then you’re free to experiment – team it with a tee for a dressed-down occasion, wear it with a gingham shirt for a more formal event, and separate the jacket and trousers for even more sartorial possibilities.
Two-Tone Shoes
Two-tone shoes are a smart choice when you want to take a simple look to the next level with minimal effort. The most famous two-tone shoe is the spectator, allegedly first designed by legendary English footwear maker John Lobb.Wearing a two-toned shoe adds a distinctly retro feel to a modern outfit, so avoid anything else with a vintage look unless you’re deliberately trying to create a costume. Otherwise, the footwear world is your oyster and you can be as audacious or as safe as you want to be in your colour choices. Consider mixing materials while you’re at it.
Colourful Socks
Socks are one of the smallest garments that can have a big impact on an outfit. They’re also one of the most inexpensive ways to rev up your getup. Block colours are the easiest place to start. Try to pick out accent colours in your look and contrast or complement your socks accordingly. For slightly more advanced levels of sockery, try rocking a pair with a print or pattern. The sky’s nearly the limit, just don’t match a pattern that’s already in the rest of your look. If you’re wearing an argyle cardigan, save the argyle socks for another day.
Wearing Your Watch On The Outside Of Your Cuff
We can practically hear your confused cries of “Huh?” through the screen, but hear us out. On one hand, wearing a watch on the outside of your cuff looks innovative and unique – the perfect expression of sprezzatura. But on the other hand, it’s simply a practical move.If your watch is on the outside, you don’t have to worry about it being too big to fit underneath and you don’t have to peel away your clothing in order to tell the time. Besides, why hide your carefully chosen timepiece beneath layers of fabric when you could show your good taste off?
Gilet Under Your Suit Blazer
During the cooler months, layering is the name of the game. The shirt-jumper-jacket look is most men’s go-to, but for the guy who’s looking for something a little more unusual, there’s another option: the gilet. The gilet can be worn as an outer layer, but it’s equally interesting (if not more so) as a mid-layer.Look for one that’s fitted and not too puffy, then pop it between your shirt and your suit blazer for a new twist on office attire. Just remember to take it off when you get indoors. If you need more help check out our guide on how to wear the gilet with a blazer.
The Document Satchel (AKA Man Purse)
Your father carted around a bulky black briefcase. In your university days, you carried a nylon laptop bag (or maybe a messenger bag, if you were an especially stylish student). Neither of those will do now. Every man needs a reliable and sophisticated work bag. Throwing a backpack over your suit simply won’t do, nor will stuffing important papers into your pockets. The answer is a document satchel, which is both functional and a stylish way of maintaining your professional image. If anyone dares call it a purse, tell them you can’t hear them over the sound of your corner office.
Wearing A Hat
The classic fedora hat catches a lot of flak these days, but well-dressed gents aren’t afraid to rock a hat no matter what the Internet says. First, familiarise yourself with the many hat styles available to you. If you think headgear begins and ends with the fedora, you have much to learn. Then figure out what works with your facial features and your hairstyle.A hat is an adventurous, original accent – but remember that the hat doesn’t make the outfit, the hat completes the outfit. If the hat is wearing you, something needs to change.

Whether you’re a seasoned business traveller, or a newbie whose money usually flies away to the great rewards program in the sky, Cathay Pacific has a plan to sort you out.
No longer will you spend precious hours the night before a flight retrieving usernames, passwords and answering mundane security questions to which you know the answer but are too embarrassed to say to the phone assistant (I don’t want to tell you the name of my favourite childhood toy!).
Hong Kong’s flagship airline, Cathay Pacific, has joined a growing list of airline operators who are using blockchain technology to make your point collecting experience easier, and more secure.
This is how it will work: Cathay Pacific will issue air miles over a single distributed ledger that will enable customers, the airlines’ partners and the airline to manage member rewards in real-time.
This blockchain rollout will also power a new mobile application, developed by Cathay Pacific’s technology partner Accenture, called ‘Unlock More Miles’.
The benefit: this platform will automate data fulfilment procedures and provide a transparent transaction history between the airline, its partners and its customers—by sharing the data set.
In an announcement, a Cathay Pacific spokesperson highlighted the improvements in efficiency this development would bring, particularly in terms of minimising back-office administration.
“By harnessing blockchain technology, the Cathay Pacific Group and Asia Miles are providing Asia Miles partners a single data source when managing account activity. This allows Asia Miles, partners and members a near real-time ability to manage rewards.”
Perhaps it’s no surprise that Cathay Pacific’s implementation of blockchain technology comes after its main rival—Singapore Airlines—announcing its own blockchain-based loyalty wallet application earlier this year.
As reported by CCN, this wallet-based application was developed in partnership with Microsoft, and, “Proved successful during a proof-of-concept trial wherein members of the airline’s frequent-flyer program spent their air miles at participating retail merchants as a point-of-sale transaction.”
Air Asia have also announced their own loyalty program, which will feature a new cryptocurrency called “Big Coin,” and German airline giant Lufthansa recently partnered with a Swiss Blockchain start-up—’Winding Tree’—incorporating the decentralised Ethereum blockchain technology into the travel industry.
For those wondering if blockchain is just a fad: this could be your answer. Organisations across all sectors are using digital ledgers to enhance business. Although many of the currencies blockchain upholds are volatile, the technology itself is an immensely useful tool that’s here to stay.

As winter wraps her steely fingers around the southern hemisphere, girlfriends everywhere will inevitably start abusing their long-suffering boyfriends—warming ice cold feet on unsuspecting arses, hamstrings and calves.Aside from attracting someone less vindictive, a beard will improve your life in a number of ways. As Gwilym Pugh—formerly a 127kg insurance salesman, now a ‘smouldering’ international model—will attest, the difference can be dramatic.First and foremost, having a beard changes your appearance. We all get to a stage in our lives when we just know something has to change. And a beard is a far more creative (and cheaper) solution than updating your wardrobe (also: much easier than getting some exercise). Yes: you need to maintain it, but essentially you are letting your body do its natural thing. In the same way that different styles of sunglasses suit different people, a beard can create the illusion of a different face shape. This means, with a beard, you could potentially re-create your whole look if you wanted to. There aren’t many more striking examples of this than Gwilym Pugh.Obviously, a huge part of his transformation was weight-loss. But the beard certainly helps. And whether or not you end up hanging out with David Beckham and representing Gillette, it’s a sure fire way to add a certain je sais quoi to your current style.Growing a beard can also slow down ageing. Researchers have discovered that beards can block out roughly 95% of the sun’s UV rays from the covered area, so despite giving the impression of ruggedness, the skin underneath should be baby-smooth when you shave it off.Beards also prevent spots. In fact, shaving is known to be a trigger of both outbreaks of dry skin and acne breakouts. It also exposes your pores to dirt and sweat. However if you allow a beard to grow, it protects and strengthens your skin. And of course, it keeps the wind and cold away, leaving your face fresh and moisturised year round, which helps hold wrinkles at bay.Not to mention; a well maintained beard can be a huge confidence booster. For example (although it has been exaggerated in order to go viral) much of Gwilym Pugh’s success has been attributed to his facial hair. As reported by The Sun:
“Thanks to his ginger beard and urban-chic style, Gwilym is gaining fans across the world.”
So there you have it: you might not be able to quit your desk-job and spend all day working out, but you can probably grow a beard. And as long as you avoid the dreaded ‘neckbeard’, you can’t go wrong.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to splurge $27, 000 to travel in a three-room apartment, on the most luxurious class in the sky? Luckily for you, Etihad just released a video guided tour of The Resident class, so you can experience extravagance at its finest—without blowing a small fortune in the process.
The Residence is the centrepiece of Etihad’s A380 superjumbos and 787 Dreamliners. Dripping with luxury, the three-room private apartment features a living room, separate bedroom and ensuite shower room, costing $27, 000 for a trip from Sydney to Abu Dhabi. The tour showcases the private butler (trained by the Savoy Butler academy in London), fine dining, 32 inch flat screen TV and 6ft 10 inch double bed on offer.
James Hogan, president and CEO said that another aspect that differentiates The Residence from first class is this: you can’t be upgraded to it.
“No, we’re going to be very pure on the pricing of the residence. It’s something exclusive. We want people to aspire to it and we won’t be giving upgrades – and that includes staff.”
So if you want to (vicariously) experience the best the sky has to offer, this isn’t a bad place to start. Or if your budget doesn’t even permit you to consider such excess, the following article might be more useful.

Yes you heard correctly. Triple denim is actually a thing.
A very slim Orlando Bloom stepped out this week in London for an appearance on BBC wearing not one denim piece but three. Orlando’s three piece Canadian tuxedo consisted of jeans, jacket and baseball cap paired back with a classic white t-shirt.
All three pieces were styled in dark indigo raw denim and we have to say we don’t hate this look. It’s surprisingly works. Orlando stopped quickly to take some selfies with celebrities before getting on his way.
Want the look? Try some of these killer denim jackets, jeans and denim caps.
