Drake Savagely Trolls The 76ers With His Big Ring Energy
Drake Savagely Trolls The 76ers With His Big Ring Energy

Drake is no stranger to stir-frying our brain with provocative outfits. Yesterday he upped the ante though at the Toronto Raptors vs. Philadelphia 76ers game, not just rocking a crazy expensive watch, but also trolling one of the 76ers, Joel Embiid, for going scoreless throughout the entire game.

Hotline Bling stepped out to support his team, the Raptors, wearing an unreleased welcomeovo jacket, a white crew-neck tee shirt, dark chinos, white Nike Air Force Ones and his now infamous diamond championship ring.

Once courtside, Drake switched the welcomeovo jacket for a black denim one.

The $150,000 ring is one of two the rapper was gifted by the Raptors. The oversized ring is said to be the biggest ever championship ring and contains over 30 carats of diamonds. In other words: all the courtside hollering paid off for the Candian rapper and songwriter.

Whilst Drake isn’t a Toronto Raptors player, he is their official mascot. Which means when they win, he wins – which they did last night, holding out the 76ers 101 to 96.

During the game, a Bleacher Report video appears to show Drake rubbing it in, clapping at the 76ers Joel Embiid, who failed to get his name on the scoreboard.

While it appears to be in good humour, we can’t say we’d be too impressed if we were mocked, even lightheartedly, by a non-player who not only possessed an NBA championship ring but also a Patek Philippe Nautilus Diamond.

This is not the first time Champagne Papi has courted controversy with this wrist candy: he awkwardly wore the same diamond-studded demon to a Hublot event back in August.

As for the judgement: are we being harsh? The 1,343 diamonds encrusted on the watch’s unmistakable face and bracelet suggest not: this bad boy hardly flies under the radar. Not to mention the price: $500,000, to be precise.

Besides the diamonds, the watch (or at least, the one Drake wore in August, which appears to be the same as this one), features a 40mm white gold case alongside a date function. You know, to remind you of the important things, like Raptors games, and flaunting your stuff in front of the opposition.

Just another day in the life of Drake, people.

Fitness Coach Reveals How Muscle Memory Can Help You Get Bigger Gains
Fitness Coach Reveals How Muscle Memory Can Help You Get Bigger Gains

As soon as we all step foot in a gym, we expect hope to make big gains, quickly. The reality is though; it can take a long time to make any real aesthetic differences to our bodies. Thus, perseverance is key.

It can be easy to take a break from the weight bench if you think you’re not making progress, which in turn has further negative effects. We perceive our bodies lose any gained muscle quickly, putting us back to square one.

However, while that may be the case for those that take a prolonged break from the fitness factory, recent research suggests it’s not as hard to regain any lost poundage as you may think, thanks to muscle memory.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B46rCXSl3RX/

Referencing research from the University of Oslo, personal trainer Peter O’Reilly says re-beefing up after a break from the gym can be as easy as riding a bike. The science says that when you work out your muscles to the point of hypertrophy – the increase in volume, rather than the number of, muscle cells – but then take a break, the muscle cells actually retain the nuclei they receive from satellite cells.

Let’s break away for a quick ‘Muscles: 101’ lesson. Muscle cells contain multiple nuclei, called myonuclei. The nucleus in each muscle cell acts as a brain, increasing or decreasing the production of various cellular chemicals as and when needed. Each nucleus can only work so hard though, but because each muscle cell contains multiple nuclei, they have the potential to grow larger.

A post shared by Liam Chenery (@liam____chen) on

To increase in size, the muscle cells need to take myonuclei from other, neighbouring cells, the most common of which are satellite cells. Scientists now believe that the myonuclei donated from the satellite cells, stay in the muscle cell they were donated to, forever. This means you won’t need to go through the donation process all over again when you begin training again.

The downside to this is while you may regain any lost muscle quicker than it took to put it on, you won’t put on new muscle quicker. For that, you will still need to go through the same process, but because you have larger and stronger muscles, you will be able to lift heavier weights, which in turn calls upon new satellite cells to donate their myonuclei.

Here are 5 of my GO-TO exercises to hit when training shoulders . Building bigger, more proportionate shoulders has been one of my main goals over the past 18 months and i’m pretty pleased with the progress i’ve made so far. By increasing my shoulder training frequency and volume, being consistent and implementing a solid base of nutrition i’ve seen pretty sick results. If you have certain areas that are lagging, rather than just trying to do loads of new random exercises to “shock your muscles”, focus on increasing the frequency / overall volume per week and be consistent. It might take a little more hard work and dedication but you’ll get there ———— ⠀⠀⠀ Full workout details below ⚡ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ EXERCISE 1: Dumbbell Shoulder Press – 4 x 10 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ EXERCISE 2: Single Arm Arnold Press – 4 x 10 (each arm) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ EXERCISE 3: Seated Lateral Raise – 4 x 10-12 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ EXERCISE 4: Seated Hammer Front Raise – 4 x 10 (each arm) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ EXERCISE 5: Behind The Neck Press (Smith Machine) – 4 x 10-12 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don’t forget to HIT SAVE and tag a friend you want to try it with! ———— #thebalancefam #workoutvideo #shoulderworkout #bouldershoulders

It’s a constant cycle and one that takes commitment, but at least you can now be safe in the knowledge that you don’t necessarily have to hit the gym every day to make ‘dem gains.

So have a break every now and then, you deserve it.

The Best No-Fuss Walking Shoes For Steady Paced Gentlemen

Like to get outdoors for short hikes, or have a walking commute to the office? Then you need to treat your feet to some of the best walking shoes for men.

Walking is seen to be more and more a serious and enjoyable form of exercise, and a great way to reduce our carbon footprint – spurred on by incentives such as the 10,000 step challenge.

How Should Walking Shoes Fit?

This is pretty essential. How a walking shoe feels on your foot after 30 seconds in a store, compared to two hours into a trail is going to vary. If possible, test new walking shoes at the end of the day, as this is when your feet are slightly more swollen and in tune with a workout. And, always take the wiggle test, moving your toes around, making sure they are free and unrestricted.

How Often Will You Be Using Your Walking Shoes?

If you’re going to be using your new walking shoes daily, whether commuting to work or taking the dog on a 5km walk, you’ll want to consider a durable shoe from the likes of York Athletics MFG or On Running. On Running, designs are particularly good to use on multiple terrains, with a comfortable yet sturdy sole.

Do You Need Fashionable Walking Shoes?

Not all walking shoes are equal. When you think of walking shoes, you’ll likely picture something similar to hiking boots; something that might not be the most fashionable ever. But this doesn’t have to be the case.

There are in fact plenty of good-looking walking shoes that combine comfort and practicality. The key is to finding the best brands, and that’s where we come in.

Read on to discover the best walking shoes for men.

Luxury Lovers Now Have A Lavish New Reason To Visit Vietnam

Steaming hot pho. Motorbikes. Ha long bay. Filter coffee. Beer. Lanterns. Hats. Vietnam is known to tourists under various stereotypes. Some may be true, some not. What is not up for debate, however, is the number of new luxury hotels that are cropping up as of late, to cater to the growing ‘discerning tourism‘ market.

Enter: Six Senses Ninh Van Bay’s new Water Retreat, the latest addition to the resort, a three-bedroom villa set on the water’s edge on the dramatic rock formations of a private bay and spreading over 9,687 square feet with eye-popping sunset views.

The Water Retreat’s location, set amongst Ninh Van Bay, a region of Vietnam famed for its majestic coastal rainforests, is accessible by a private speedboat or walkway. Not quite as authentic as bartering with one of the city’s taxi drivers, but a heck less stressful.

Not to mention, available round the clock to help epitomize a home-away-from-home experience, a dedicated GEM (Guest Experience Maker) can arrange a poolside barbecue and outdoor cinema screening or schedule the day’s activities for those that take their lazing seriously.

The interior’s not too shabby either…

On that note, as Six Senses today detailed in a press release, “in-villa dining goes beyond the ordinary as breakfasts and lunches can be enjoyed from a floating tray-table in the pool, while barbecue dinners are prepared and served by a private chef in the outdoor and indoor dining area after pre-dinner drinks overlooking a magical sunset reflected across the bay.”

“Guests can also enjoy an in-villa spa treatment, private yoga session by the poolside or snorkel on the house reef.”

The Brutal Break Up Truths Every Modern Dater Needs To Know
The Brutal Break Up Truths Every Modern Dater Needs To Know

When you think about it, being broken up with is worse than being cheated on. Why’s that? Short term pain is always preferable to long term equanimity provided it gives you an excuse to absolve yourself of all responsibility.

Unless they break up with you like an absolute psycho, in which case you have another reason to bandy about their immaturity, and massage your ego back into pole position. Enter: the most brutal break-up stories of 2019.

As Liam and Miley Cyrus recently revealed, even as the world of dating has changed with the advent of dating apps, fuccboi haircuts (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it) and ghosting, the act of breaking up hasn’t.

Awkward, gut-wrenching, joyous: saying adieu is just as cliche as ever. It’s just how we do it that has changed. In any case, these are some of the worst tales of rejection (and their associated break up truths) we’ve heard this year.

Ghosts Gonna Ghost

As one woman told Mamamia earlier this month, breaking up via disappearance is not necessarily a modern phenomenon: “He told me that he was concerned about the ‘continuing viability of the longevity of our relationship’, after he ghosted me for three weeks even though we’d been dating for nearly a year.”

“No texts, ignoring phone calls… I even saw him look at his phone at Uni one day while I was calling him. I then ran into him at Uni and he pretended he didn’t know me. I texted him and told him it wasn’t on and I thought we should chat. He finally called me back and gave me that line. Ugh.

“Thankfully it was nine years ago and I have a lovely partner now because geez, I was so crushed and mad at the same time.”

Cliche Gonna Cliche

In the same article, another jilted lover revealed, “My ex said, ‘I love you so much but I just can’t get my ex out of my head and I need to revisit things with her and see if there’s anything still there.’”

In-Person Is No Less Brutal

“My boyfriend of three years (who I thought I would marry) said: ‘I do want marriage and kids… just not with you’”, another woman recently revealed to Mamamia.

Staying in shape will help your chances… except when it doesn’t

Also via Mamamia: “I was dumped by a guy who told me ‘I want to be with a hot fit girl that will go running with me’. I was in the best shape of my life, hit the gym with him four to five days per week and had been running with him several times. He was definitely just not that into me.”

Never trust an extended movie

“My first ever super serious boyfriend took me out on a really nice date. We’d been dating a bit over a year, we went out, watched a movie, had a lovely lunch and he dropped me home in the afternoon. Then texted me an hour later to break up,” (Mamamia).

“He had taken me out all day with the intention of breaking up but didn’t have the guts to do it face to face. To put the nail on the coffin, I found out a week later he’d been cheating on me too.”

Social media is a b*tch

Ever had your long-distance relationship ‘boyfriend’ ghost you then post photos of his new girlfriend all over Instagram? One Elite Daily source has, recounting how she “found that the true meaning of ‘making long-distance work’ for her high school sweetheart meant having a second girlfriend abroad.”

Even worse: “he ghosted [me] and displayed his debauchery on Instagram with #couplegoals of the pictures of his new squeeze.” Nice.

Affairs are forever

Think affairs are a thing of the past? Think again. Even though it’s easier than ever to tell if someone is having an affair in this digital age, it’s also easier than ever to have one. Enter: ‘Nina’, a woman who told Elite Daily she had an idyllic life, until her husband got a little too frisky with their kids’ nanny, and not a single ‘app’ was involved.

“Nina had the ‘perfect life.’ She had a nice townhouse in New York City, two well-behaved 2-year-olds and one handsome investment banker for a husband. Too bad she forgot the dog collar when taking her little pug for a walk around the block because, to her surprise when she rushed back, her husband was the one doggy-styling the nanny on the kitchen floor.”

Subtle hints aren’t necessarily better than an old fashioned betrayal

People get the shits with ghosting and breaking up via text, but the following story, which has done the rounds on both Thought Catalogue and Reddit this year, suggests breaking up via text is far from the worst way to go.

“She started making out with another dude while we were at a party, all sitting on the same couch. That deflates the romance pretty quickly.”

As technology has evolved, our social skills have devolved

As one user admitted on a recent Reddit thread entitled “What’s the worst way to break up with someone,” despite there being worse intermediaries to breakups than a screen, we’re also pretty bad at using screens.

“Make the decision hastily, tell everyone but them. Ghost them. Then send them an email to not their primary email that that they don’t check. Show up at their door step a week later asking to have them back.”

Genius.

What Happens To Your Body When You Get Drunk
What Happens To Your Body When You Get Drunk

Have you ever wondered what happens to your brain when you get plastered on a night out? Besides throwing up in a cab and waking up next to your neighbour’s wife, there’s actually a lot more going on when it comes to drinking. The smart cookies at IFL recently teamed up with science writer Stephen Braun to uncover the four all-too-familiar stages of drinking. Le sigh.

It’s All Good…At The Beginning

Friday night doesn’t start until there’s an alcoholic beverage in your hand (and Marky Mark’s playing in the background). Alcohol is considered a drug as it can alter brainwave patterns.

The effect of this drug however is solely reliant on the amount consumed and at what rate. And whilst standard drugs focus stimulation in one key area of the body, alcohol is the complete opposite. Braun tells IFL that “alcohol is like the hand grenade or a bomb. It blows up and goes everywhere”.

When alcohol in consumed, ethanol goes straight to your stomach where it is then picked up by the bloodstream and carried throughout the body. “Your body responds to alcohol as if you’ve taken a very nasty poison and its geared to get rid of it,” says Braun.

Your liver then attempts to break the ‘poison’ down by producing an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase, a chemical which converts alcohol into acetaldehyde. That acetaldehyde which usually has a hand in the common hangover, is then further broken down into  acetic acid. In English, this all means that if you drink more alcohol than your liver can process, you’ll start to get drunk. Ever heard of that saying “lining your stomach”? The degree of one’s drunkenness is also based on how much you’ve eaten prior.

“In the first half an hour or so of drinking, you’re going to experience stimulating effects and euphoria,” says Braun. “Alcohol reduces your inhibitions and will release a little dopamine – the brain’s big reward molecule – so you’re going to feel good.”

The Great Depression

Ok – maybe not that bad. But you’re body is now beginning to feel the effects of the excess drinks. You’re clumsier, your speech slurs and your reaction to things are beginning to wane. This is the point where complex stuff like Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) starts to seep into other parts of the brain, causing depressive effects.

Braun warns that “this isn’t the time to make important decisions”.

“This is because alcohol depresses the behavioural inhibitory centres in the cerebral cortex, making you more likely to do things, or someone, that you wouldn’t if you were sober.”

The Pissing Game

Incessant urinating is the next stage and you’ll often find yourself returning to the bathroom a lot more when you’re drunk. The reason behind this is that your liver is working overtime to push alcohol out of your body. To get scientific, the alcohol stops an antidiuretic hormone called vasopressin in your body.

Vasopressin is what usually keeps the body’s kidneys from releasing too much fluid and to replenish the body with water. Since the vasopressin has been blocked, the body begins to excrete more liquid than there is going in. This my friend, leads to dehydration.

“You end up dehydrated and that’s a big reason for hangovers,” explains Braun.

Let’s Not Talk About Sex, Baby

Alcohol stimulates the sex drive but it can also hamper your sexual responses. Braun says that “after that third or fourth glass of wine, pretty much everything is going to go downhill. From a purely physiological standpoint, alcohol is just bad for sex”.

In summary, erections are harder (to get), lubrication isn’t crash hot and orgasms are harder to achieve. This terrible bout of tango usually follows on with the walk of shame, pondering where it went south.

“Obviously you weren’t thinking. Under the influence of alcohol, you may find yourself becoming much more attracted to someone than you would if you were sober. That has to do with putting a break on your frontal lobe and loosening up all the emotional centres of the brain.”

If you’ve ever heard of the term ‘Beer Goggles’, a journal study by Addiction has found that the phenomenon is based on our ability to assess facial symmetry. Alcohol decreases one’s ability to evaluate this facial symmetry which is a trait commonly related to attractiveness and human mate selection.

Ex World’s Strongest Man Reveals Workout Secret That Could Get You Huge
Ex World’s Strongest Man Reveals Workout Secret That Could Get You Huge

It’s not curating your calves or perfecting your bicep peaks, it’s doing the compound exercises in which you lift as much weight as possible. These days we all have access to fancy pant gyms and even silkier equipment which promises to help us work each and every muscle group in intricate detail.

From the dreaded hip abductor to preacher curls, these kinds of exercises can be helpful to help you achieve extra muscle tone or definition. What they aren’t great for, however, is building mass – something which the vast majority of us struggle with.

If this sounds like you, take your cue from the following video of Eddie Hall, otherwise known as The Beast, winner of the World’s Strongest Man Of 2017 competition and world record deadlift holder (500kg under strongman rules).

Although Eddie is no longer at the absolute pinnacle of his game, he is still working out like a man possessed, and proving to us the way to build (and maintain) muscle mass is to do major compound lifts, with good form.

Of course, you might not lift 170kg “like a feather” a la Eddie, but deadlifts are certainly a good place to kickstart your mountain-like goals, along with squats, pull-ups and chin-ups, lunges, bench presses, dips and lying pullovers.
