Depending on who you listen to, Apple have either designed a machine that is finally worthy of the Pro moniker or missed the chance to make Macbook great again, with yesterday’s release of a new model.
Both parties make good points, but if you need more info: here’s the full breakdown. The keyboard, touch bar, speed, price, and (lack of an) SD card slot are just the beginning. Dive in.
New(ish) Keyboard
Apple hasn’t fundamentally redesigned the controversial flat keyboards, which has some tech journalists worried this new Macbook could still be prone to having sticky keys—a problem which affects a small percentage of devices. When you’re a company as big as Apple, though, such a problem is a big deal, because a small percentage of your customer base is still a lot of irate people.
That said, this third-gen “butterfly-switch” keyboard has certainly been improved. The keys feel different—more like the keys on the popular, pre-2016 MacBook Pro redesign. The keyboard’s also quieter, which should come in handy if you are prone to pounding out emails at all hours of the night.
Hands Free Siri
Apple has now introduced the T2 chip, which handles fingerprint scanning and Touch Bar duties, from the iMac Pro into the MacBook Pro, enabling users to interact Siri without having to press a button.
Processing Speed
Both the 13-inch and 15in MacBook Pros with Touch Bar will now come with the latest eighth-generation Intel Core i5, i7 and i9 processors, bringing them up to speed (literally) with competition from Windows PC manufacturers such as Huawei and Dell.
The 13in laptop gains quad-core versions of the i5 and i7 processors, which Apple says will be up to twice as fast as the old ones, and the larger 15inch laptop has gained 6-core i7 and i9 processors, which are supposed to be 70% faster. Oh and who could forget: the memory space available in the larger laptop has also been doubled to 32GB, for good measure.
Colour Control
The new Macbooks have been endowed with the True Tone colour control system from Apple’s iPads, which uses light sensors to adjust the colour temperature of the display to (automatically) best match the light in your environment.
Basics
The four Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports, battery life and screen resolution are reportedly unchanged. Also, the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro doesn’t come in a version with the regular function row (hence the hefty price), which could suggest this feature is on its way out for good.
Price
The ‘entry level’ configuration, with an Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD costs $1,800 USD. The highest configuration model stacks up to a hefty $3,700 USD.

The nights are cold. The mornings even colder. If you reside in the Southern Hemisphere you’d be in the clutches of winter right about now which means man flu season.
Want to know a secret? There is no such thing as man flu, according to Dr. Stephen Massey of Bondi Doctors.
“It depends on who you ask…you ask a man and it’s far more severe. But there’s no medical diagnosis known as ‘man flu’. It’s the same thing everyone else gets. It’s probably just that we can’t cope with it as well.”
Ouch.
With that said, we hit up the good doctor to find out the proven ways to getting over a cold and flu quick-fast so that you can skip the suffering and get back to doing life.
The Truth About Catching The Flu
Washing your hands. Covering your mouth when you sneeze. Rolling through life in a sterilised bubble. You may have the best hygiene practices in the world but it only goes so far since the flu is contagious.
“Good hygiene certainly makes a difference, but if you’re working in close quarters with people or catching public transport or going out and socialising, you only need to be standing across from someone to catch it, so there’s no guarantees,” says Dr. Massey.
A common belief is that people catch a cold from the cold but this is entirely false. You actually catch a cold from other people.
“We don’t know why the flu arises more in winter because it’s not directly linked to temperature. But for whatever reason the flu season is winter.”
No Rest Is The Reason You’re Sick
Put simply your chances of getting sick will skyrocket if you don’t get enough sleep and rest.
“Sleep is one of the biggest things you can do to support your immune system,” says Dr. Massey.
Not getting sleep will put stress on all of your body’s functions and the immune system particularly. Can’t afford to miss leg day? Think again.
“You feel tired because all the energy you’ve got is going into your immune system, making anti-bodies, waging war with the virus. That sucks a lot of your reserves so trying to push through it by exercising is not a good idea.”
This means your body will be more vulnerable to getting sick and if you’re already sick, it will take even longer to get over it.
“People are always looking for shortcuts to get over it and boost their immune system with supplements and all that stuff – all of that is insignificant when compared to getting enough sleep,” adds Dr. Massey.
Stay home, look after yourself and resting is the best way to get over it.
But What About Vitamins & Supplements?
Well here’s a kicker. An orange a day will not keep the doctor away. Or any other form of magic bullet supplements for that matter.
“Vaccinations can help but it only protects against serious things like influenza, not against the common winter cold.”
There is no evidence of supplements or diets that have helped to fix a flu even though they’re popular.
“Having high Vitamin C in your diet compared to having just a normal amount in your diet won’t benefit you when you’re sick,” says Dr. Massey.
“The value for supplements is if someone is deficient in something. Like a vegan who has low in iron or B12 – they will benefit from the supplement, but for people eating a normal balanced diet, they should be getting everything they need – having more is probably not going to help them.”
Dr. Massey doesn’t advocate taking any substances to fix the flu but if there’s one thing can help, it’s zinc.
“It has the best evidence base. If people are going to buy something, that’s the one.”
Difference In Recovery Times
Ever wonder why your boss can magically recover from a flu after a day whilst you’re left spilling your guts for the next two weeks? We did.
“Different viruses take different amounts of time,” explains Dr. Massey.
“There are ones which will just take a day or two, then there are ones that take two-three weeks. It’s the individual and it’s also the infection they’ve caught.”
There are variations in people’s immune systems even amongst healthy people. Some will be genetically stronger with their immune system based on where they’ve grown up.
What can also affect the length of your flu can come down to lifestyle. People who are fit, healthy, non-smokers and have a good diet will reap the biggest benefits when it comes to recovery.

Something special debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year and it’s given our collective stomachs butterflies. Correction: it’s made us love sick to the point of projectile hurling.
Put aside that graceful image for a second though and cast your eyes over the beautiful lines that make up the new Singer-Williams DLS 911, for it is the ultimate vintage Porsche of your dreams.
Commissioned by Porsche aficionado Scott Blattner, the DLS 911 took two years to complete as a collaborative project between Singer and Wiliams Advanced Engineering – yes, the same Williams which runs a Formula One team. The goal for this Porsche was simple: create the most focused 1990 964-series Porsche 911 in the world with bespoke credentials to boot.
We think they succeeded. The DLS moniker stands for ‘Dynamics and Lightweighting Study’ and it’s a dead giveaway as to the approach the companies took in carving out this work of automotive art. In the preliminary stage Singer and Williams both acquired 911s from different generations to identify each one’s distinctive strengths. The learnings from their case study were then poured back into the DLS project and the result speaks for itself.
A custom wide-bodied carbon fibre coupe complete with old school ducktail spoiler, 500hp 4.0-litre flat six engine and a kerb weight of just 989kg. For reference the same car from the Porsche factory in 1990 came with half the power and weighed 386kg more. To polish things off even more the DLS 911 was mated to a six-speed manual transmission which sends power to the rear wheels. Peak power doesn’t arrive until 9,000rpm by the way so we hope you love the sound of high RPMs.
Williams engineering know-how is evident through the car’s bodywork that has been put through computational fluid dynamics for optimum aerodynamics without the need for protruding wings. The diet plan is even carried over onto the centre-lock wheels which take advantage of insanely expensive forged magnesium rollers from BBS.
Inside the cabin you’ll find bespoke Recaro seats wrapped in tan to evoke an period-correct aesthetic without compromising on modern functionality and safety.
Want to sell your house for one? Singer will only be making 75 examples of the Dynamics and Lightweight Studies 911 with Williams looking after production at its British facilities.

His home team may have lost the World Cup bid for another year but David Beckham certainly hasn’t lost his penchant for a classically tailored suit.
His latest look is purely for the corporate players. We’re talking about the timeless navy pinstripe and Becks pulled it off perfectly at Miami City Hall overnight. The 43-year-old father of three stepped out in a pared down suit with minimal accessories and a solid grey skinny tie paired with a crispy white dress shirt. Besides his wedding ring, you couldn’t even spot a watch on Beckham which is unusual considering he tends to wear a $55,000 Rolex with a tee.
Nonetheless it’s a finely curated look which taps into Savile Row territory and the American power suit without going full Trump.
Take a lesson from Beckham gents, keep it conservative in a traditional professional environment and make sure those shoes are clean with coating of a semi-polish (you’re going to a business meeting, not a salsa competition) and that promotion will be waiting for you in no time.
It’s not coming home but who cares when you look this good in business attire.

You know how it is: you pull up at a red light and your phone pings. You’ve got time, so you may as well answer it, right? Wrong.
A new study conducted in Australia’s Sunshine State (and published in Risk Analysis: An International Journal) has found that most people don’t perceive texting and driving to be dangerous—in certain driving scenarios.
In Australia, 22% of car accidents (and 71% of truck accidents) occur due to mobile phone activity. However, actual crash risks depend on the type of task being performed and the extent of its mental and physical demands on the driver. Taking a call, for instance, increases crash risk by 2.2 times whereas texting increases risk by 6.1 times.
This has led to government campaigns like Get Your Hand Off It, and calls for more punitive measures to be taken against offenders. Despite this, research shows drivers are willing to take the risk due to ‘fear of missing out’ and separation anxiety.
In the study, “Should I text or call here? A situation-based analysis of Queensland drivers’ perceived likelihood of engaging in mobile phone multitasking,” researchers found that of all the volunteers, women, frequent users of their phones, people with negative attitudes towards safety and people with low levels of inhibition reported much stronger intentions of engaging in distracted driving.
The study found that many drivers make use of stops to use their mobile device, and many are able to restrain themselves to using phones only while stopped at intersections with signals. Also, according to Science Daily, “Many other researchers have also noted that drivers usually restrict engagement in heavy traffic or along curved sections of both urban and rural roads.” What this particular study did was identify what factors contribute to “self-regulation.”
As reported by Science Daily, “In the study, 447 drivers in South East Queensland, Australia, answered questions about perceived crash risk, perceived driving comfort, perceived driving difficulty, perceived driving ability, perceived likelihood of engaging in a voice call and perceived likelihood of engaging in texting.”
The authors concluded that females are more likely than males to engage in mobile phone use while driving. Additionally, more experienced drivers are less likely to engage in distracted driving. As for potential ways to stop people from doing so, the study found that “demanding traffic conditions” and “presence of law enforcement” were reported as effective deterrents—which supports high-visibility police enforcement programs as a way to combat distracted driving.
“Drivers are not good at identifying where it is safe to use their phone, it is safer for drivers to just pull over in an appropriate place to use their phone quickly and then resume their journey,” said Oviedo-Trespalacios, a member of the research team.

Ferraris have always been works of art on wheels. From the first Ferrari road car to come out of Maranello in 1947, to 2013’s LaFerrari, each one is a masterpiece of style and engineering. Today we’re celebrating the five most beautiful vintage Ferrari autos (and yes, it was hard to narrow it down to just five) to ever roll off the production floor.
Try to keep the drool from dripping down your chin. That’s not a good look on anyone.
Ferrari 288 GTO
The Ferrari 288 GTO, produced from 1984 through 1985, is an exotic homologation of the Ferrari 308 GTB – which means that it was designed to comply with a racing series’ technical guidelines and meet its requirements for minimum levels of sales. In the case of the 288 GTO, that series was the new Group B Race series and a minimum of 200 cars in production was required for homologation. However, after the death of two drivers, the series was disestablished and the 288 GTO never raced. All 272 cars built remained purely road cars. In 2004, Sports Car International named the Ferrari 288 GTO number two on its list of the Top Sports Cars of the 1980s.
Ferrari Dino
The name “Dino” honours the Ferrari founder’s late son, Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari, who is credited with the design of the V6 engine. Ferrari wanted to create a lower-priced, “affordable” sports car but didn’t want to diminish the Ferrari name with the cheaper car, and so the Dino brand was born. The mid-engine, rear-drive Dino sports cars were produced by Ferrari from 1968 to 1967. The Dino 246, the first Ferrari model to be produced in high numbers, was placed at number six on Sports Car International’s 2004 list of Top Sports Cars of the 1970s. Motor Trend Classic also placed the car at number seven on their list of the “10 Greatest Ferraris of all time”.
Ferrari 250 GT Lusso
Alternatively known as the GTL, GT/L, and the Berlinetta Lusso, the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso is often considered one of the most elegant entries in the Ferrari line up (and that’s really saying something). The 250 GT Lusso was designed by Pininfarina and bodied by Carrozzeria Scaglietti, and made a few appearances in sporting events of the 60s despite not being intended for racing. The car was manufactured for only 18 months and was the last model of the Ferrari 250 GT generation. Steve McQueen was an owner until 1967, when he gave up his GTL over frustrations with the V12 engine’s excessive smoke emissions.
1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta
The 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta was an attempt to transform the classic 250 GTO into a vehicle more suited for the road. Designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, the 275 GTB/4 was the first Ferrari not to be offered with wire wheels. The car quickly became a legend, and even now many still consider it one of the greatest Ferraris ever built. Faye Dunaway drove a convertible version in The Thomas Crown Affair, calling it “one of those red Italian things,” and her co-star Steve McQueen fell so hard for the 275 GTB/4 that he bought one of his own.
Ferrari 250 GTO
The Ferrari 250 GTO was produced by the Italian automaker from 1962 to 1964 for homologation into the FIA’s Group 3 Grand Touring Car category. In 2004, Sports Car International placed the 250 GTO eighth on a list of the Top Sports Cars of the 1960s and nominated it as the top sports car of all time. Motor Trend Classic also placed the car first on a list of the “Greatest Ferraris of all time.” The 250 GTO, touted as the Ferrari that most successfully embodies the brand, has become the most valuable of all Ferraris. Only 39 were made, and as of 2013, the record selling price for a 250 GTO is $52 million.

The toilet was once a place of quiet reflection and newspaper reading. A few hours into a long-haul flight, however, and you’d be hard pressed to find even the most current affairs avid passenger who would spend a minute more in the crapping-silo than they have to.
And it’s not just the delightful smell—in light of labour costs and fuel prices rising, airlines are making their toilets smaller and smaller. As anyone who travels frequently on a budget airline will attest, it’s sneaky enough to test your sanity as much as your dexterity. One year you fit, the next you don’t. And whilst the backpacker’s diet probably hasn’t helped, the reason you’re struggling to turn around in the restroom isn’t just because of your penchant for late-night kebabs.
Although airlines wave away your stomach-felt concerns, pointing out that the new toilets are invariably just a few inches smaller than before: it’s not like the bathrooms were ever big. In fact the change is so inconvenient that the tighter fit is sparking complaints from pilots and flight attendants, as well as travellers.
As reported by Bloomberg, “Consultant Samuel Engel (who leads the aviation group at consulting firm ICF) said taking his 4-year-old son to the restroom during a recent four-hour flight was like a yoga exercise.”
“We’re both compact people, but I still had to basically straddle him to be able to fit in the lav together.”
The report found that American Airlines Group Inc. (just one of many culprits) is using a smaller lavatory supplied by Airbus SE on new A321neos and remodeled older A321s to squeeze in more seats. The airline also plans to shrink the restrooms on the 300 Boeing Co. 737 aircraft.
all this shite about plane toilets being too small to join the mile high club, anything is possible if u want it bad enough
— holls. (@holly_clow) June 15, 2016
Although some clearly don’t mind it, for those hoping to one day be able to wash more than one hand at a time: don’t hold your breath. “Even with passenger complaints on these lavs, I don’t see airlines pulling them out,” Gary Weissel, managing director of Tronos Aviation Consulting, has said (as reported by Bloomberg).
“The revenue generated from being able to get an additional row of seats in there is too great.”
According to Bloomberg, “Weissel estimated that an airline could generate about $400,000 a year for each seat it adds to a plane, based on average fares and typical aircraft usage.” So before your next trip you might be well advised to do some crunches—or wrangle an upgrade…

One could be forgiven for forgetting about Bitcoin. In December it was all anyone could talk about, but since the $20,000 spike, it has languished around the $8,000 mark (it currently sits at $8659). However, Julian Hosp, co-founder and president of TenX, a crypto wallet, makes a decent case for why Bitcoin will likely increase in value again, if not reach $60,000, by the end of the year.
Yes: anyone who owns a crypto-based company has a vested interest in generating hype, so take it with a token of salt. But Hosp has correctly predicted Bitcoin trends before (at least he said as much on CNBC), so he’s probably worth listening too more than the crypto-punters of your office (who Warren Buffet somewhat hilariously/indirectly insulted back in May).
This start-up exec says it’s still possible bitcoin could hit $60,000 this year, even though the cryptocurrency is trading about 67% below its December highs. via @cnbctech https://t.co/CzRneQ7XqT
— CNBC (@CNBC) July 11, 2018
Hosp argues that movement on the regulatory front is a positive sign, and if a major positive event occurs, Bitcoin will hit $60,000 this year. Such an event, as reported by CCN, “Could be a country making a positive announcement about bitcoin or a bitcoin exchange traded fund coming to fruition.”
He also added that for his prediction to come true, Bitcoin would need to surpass the $10,000 mark by August. Should this happen, media coverage should then generate enough hype to make the $60,000 price possible.

Well, how are your finances going? If it’s anything like ours you’re probably on a strict diet of stale bread and reconstituted vase water. Okay it’s not that bad, but it certainly feels like it when Drake slinks around Wimbledon with his $18,000 Rolex and a goddamn hoodie.
The American rapper was one of the celebrities spotted at the glamorous event held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Whilst prestige and class is an unspoken requisite when attending the iconic sporting event, Drake took it in his own stride to dress however he wanted.
This meant a bright green hoodie from Canadian label October’s Very Own, black tracksuit pants and Nike Air Max 97s in white. The complete casual streetwear look wouldn’t normally crack the $500 mark if it weren’t a small detail sitting on Drake’s wrist. Say hello to the 31-year-old’s custom Rolex President Day-Date ref. 218348. Drake’s Rolex takes it up a notch with 18k yellow gold construction paired with diamonds set in around the dial’s hour markers.
Here’s an older image of Drake rocking his goods like a dodgy used car salesman.
We’re not too sure if this is a look that suits Wimbledon, but you do you Drake, you do you.
