Christian Bale Is Bringing Back The Most 80s Suit Trend
Christian Bale Is Bringing Back The Most 80s Suit Trend

Christian Bale, one of the world’s best method actors, is perhaps best known for his insane body transformations – but it’s his style transformation lately that we think has been particularly impressive.

The 48-year-old English leading man has been making two big style moves lately: firstly, he’s been growing out his hair and his beard – like many men in Hollywood right now, it seems – which has made him look both dignified and a bit hip all at the same time.

The second style move he’s been making is bringing back the 80s shiny suit – in a big way. Just take this slick number he wore yesterday for the world premiere of his latest movie, Amsterdam (which premiered in New York City, counterintuitively).

Paired with a simple black button-up shirt and sans tie, it’s an eye-catching yet demure smart casual look that’s perfect for a man of his stature. Honestly, can you think of an actor classier than Christian Bale?

L-R: Christian Bale and wife Sibi Blažić at the premiere of Amsterdam yesterday, plus Rico Tubbs and Sonny Crockett from Miami Vice – the latter wearing a shiny suit.

Shiny suits (sometimes called ‘sharkskin’ suits), which are really just any suit made out of a fabric with a sheen to it, such as shot silk, rayon or worsted wool, have come in and out of fashion over the 20th and 21st centuries.

While they were very popular in the post-war period and saw a resurgence in popularity during the disco craze, these days they’re most commonly associated with 80s fashion, and especially 80s media like American Gigolo and Miami Vice.

The 80s was a blessed time for men’s tailoring in general but we can’t think of a more 80s suit trend than going shiny… Other than insane shoulder pads, of course.

Amsterdam is a period mystery comedy film with a stacked ensemble cast, which will see Bale appear alongside Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldaña, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Rami Malek and Robert De Niro, just to name a few. Phew!

All The Dumb Things People Did While Waiting To View The Queen Lying-In-State
All The Dumb Things People Did While Waiting To View The Queen Lying-In-State

A huge number of people went to go see The Queen’s Lying-in-State, which resulted in ridiculously long queues. And some people clearly couldn’t handle being in line for that long…

Even though she was 96 years old, many were shocked when, just over a week ago, Queen Elizabeth II passed away. And as with any death, people have been grieving and mourning in different ways.

For example, some Australians decided to recreate The Queen’s favourite cocktail at home. Some looked back on her most iconic moments. And many – including David Beckham – decided to pay their respects by attending The Queen’s Lying-in-State.

In fact, so many gathered to do this it became a bit of a phenomenon, now known as The Queue. If you’re unfamiliar with The Queue, over the last six days – before The Queen’s laid to rest during her funeral – hundreds of thousands of people queued up (hence the name) just to get a glimpse of The Queen’s coffin while it was on display at the Palace of Westminster.

The minimum wait time in The Queue was roughly 3 to 4 hours but the maximum was over 24 hours. And while most stories concerning The Queue seem to be positive and somewhat heartwarming, clearly some people were driven mad by waiting in line for that long.

Case in point: according to TMZ, one man who was waiting in The Queue was arrested after allegedly dropping his trousers and exposing himself to two women who were also in The Queue. He then reportedly tried to escape from police officers by jumping into the River Thames.

Similarly, ABC News reported that another man from The Queue was arrested after he allegedly pushed past a seven-year-old girl, “ran up” and tried to touch The Queen’s coffin.

Plus, multiple people are selling their ‘Lying-in-State’ wristbands – you needed one to gain access to both The Queue and the Palace of Westminster – at obscene prices on eBay; one’s listed for £500 (roughly AU$850) which is insane!

Of course, as mentioned earlier, most people who joined The Queue had a rather enjoyable experience. Well, as enjoyable as paying respects to a dead person can be… So, clearly, there are a few people out there who – for the greater good – should just avoid long queues in general.

Influencers May Be Bathing In ‘Sewage Water’ At Popular Australian Waterfall
Influencers May Be Bathing In ‘Sewage Water’ At Popular Australian Waterfall

Instagram users frolicking in a not-so-secret waterfall in Woy Woy, on the Central Coast of Australia’s NSW, may be getting more than they bargained for, some social media users have said.

Woy Woy, on the Central Coast of NSW, is home to a popular waterfall. The not-so-secret spot has gained prominence of late, with many people posing on its rim and posting the results to Instagram.

WATCH: Social Media Users Swim At Woy Woy Falls

Some social media users, however, have warned the waterfall is near a waste management facility. One wrote: “It’s a nice spot, but don’t swim in it after rains as linked to runoff and has lots of faecal coliforms.”

Another quipped: “When you realise that’s a sewage outlet.”

“The water comes from a rubbish disposal nearby, definitely be careful putting head underwater,” yet another said.

Others fretted over the outing of the location. On TikTok user Walk My World’s video, one commenter wrote: “18 years in Kariong and didn’t know about this. Keep it a secret to keep it beautiful.”

Walk My World, in the comments of their video, also shed some light on where they believe the water comes from. In response to a comment claiming it could be sewage-affected they said: “It’s from the creek above in a national park.”

The Daily Mail reports there is no evidence to back the claims that the place is polluted with sewage. Woy Woy Falls does, however, share natural waterways with the waste management facility.

One would assume though, that if the facility does its job correctly, there should be no pollution at the falls.

While the social media rumour is certainly one to bear in mind, it’s also worth remembering locals might be keen to deter visitors, out of fear the place may be on its way to becoming an overcrowded hotspot.

Another warning for the site is the drop-off. To that (gruesome) end, Yahoo News reports: “Travellers have also been warned to be alert near the pool’s narrow ledge.”

Who Is Harry Garside? The Australian Boxer Pushing For Social Change
Who Is Harry Garside? The Australian Boxer Pushing For Social Change

Harry Garside is an Australian boxer who has become Australia’s first Olympic medal winner in over 30 years. What makes Harry Garside such an interesting boxer, however, is the fact he wasn’t seen to have boxing potential when he was young. He has also made a stand against gender stereotypes and can often be seen sporting nail polish or wearing women’s clothing.

He’s most certainly a boxer of the 21st century.

So, who is Harry Garside, where is he from and what potentially lies in store for Australia’s next great boxing prospect? Allow us to answer all these questions and more.

Harry Garside Quick Facts

Name: Harrison Garside
Age: 24
DoB: 22 July 1997
Nationality: Australian
Height: 5ft 9in / 1.76m
Weight: Around 60kg – competes in Lightweight division
Instagram: @harry_garside – 58k followers

Who is Harry Garside?

Harry Garside is an Australian boxer from Ferntree Gully, Victoria, Australia. He was born on 22 July 1997. He’s the youngest of three brothers and admits he was connected to his mother at a young age, compared to his brothers Josh and Jack, who were “blokey” and connected with their father, Shaun. He says in an interview with Better Homes and Gardens that he tried to “play a role to be a masculine man but deep down it wasn’t me.”

Harry Garside now has a full leg sleeve tattoo with portraits of some of his favourite boxers, including Muhammed All and Vasiliy Lomachenko. He says they’re not just great boxers and athletes, but they’re great human beings outside of the ring, too.

Harry Garside Boxer

Despite not feeling masculine, Harry Garside pursued the idea of participating in boxing from the age of 9 and he fell in love with the sport immediately. He says boxing allowed to him “find out who I am, gave me self-love, discipline and self-care.”

Garside joined the Lilydale Youth Club to pursue a career in boxing. However, it didn’t get off to an amazing start, as he lost more fights than he won. In fact, he lost 10 of his first 18, but it didn’t deter his fighting spirit. If anything, the losses spurred him on further and he assumed an underdog mentality

Olympics

Image: @harry_garside

Harry Garside competed in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics in the Lightweight boxing division. After successfully making his way through the group stages, Harry guaranteed himself an Olympic medal when made it through to the semi-finals, which took place on 6 August 2021. His Olympic semi-final boxing match was against Andy Cruz from Cuba.

Cruz went into the boxing match as the favourite, due to his vastly superior boxing experience. At the time, Harry Garside’s boxing record was 19-15 (wins, losses) compared to Andy Cruz’s 110-8 record.

Harry Garside did ultimately lose the fight by unanimous decision, but in doing so, still managed to win an Olympic bronze medal. It marked the first time an Australian boxer had won an Olympic medal in 33 years.

Before his Olympic bronze medal win, Harry Garside had already won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He did so whilst maintaining his regular day job as a plumber.

Harry has since donated his bronze Olympic medal to the MCG Sports Museum.

When is Harry Garside’s next fight?

Harry Garside was due to step into the boxing ring on September 15th at the Nissan Arena in Brisbane, Queensland. Harry was scheduled to fight fellow Australian boxer Miles Zalewski as the first match on a night where former NRL player Paul Gallen squared up against both Justin Hodges and Ben Hannant on the same night, a world first in boxing.

However, Harry unfortunately had to pull out from the fight after suffering a hand injury during training. Harry said of the decision to pull out of the event, “I’m sorry to everyone that was excited to see me back in the ring that I won’t be there next week, especially to my opponent.”

“It’s definitely challenging mentally and physically because you put so much on yourself to be at the absolute peak come fight night but I couldn’t risk my future by going into a fight less than 100 per cent.”

Harry Garside’s opponent, Miles Zalewski, has an impressive fight record to date. He has appeared in 13 bouts so far and won 11 of them by knockout. His two losses, against Dana Coolwell and Darragh Foley, have also both been by knockout.

Harry Garside Personal Life

Girlfriend

Image: @harry_garside

Harry Garside currently has a girlfriend, Ash Ruscoe, who is also a boxer. The pair have said they would like to one day open up their own boxing gym in a low socio-economic area, more so so that they can teach kids to be good humans. Harry has said he doesn’t mind if he doesn’t get to create championship-level boxers, he just wants to create good humans.

Ash is also a keen advocate for women’s empowerment and so her goal is to teach young girls that they are equal to men and can have the strength to compete on the same level.

Ballet

Image: @harry_garside

Harry Garside started taking ballet lessons at the age of 19. He was very aware of the fact ballet is often seen as a women’s discipline, but he says ballet lessons have helped him with his boxing. He says there is a lot of crossover between the two, because of the mental pressures that come with ballet, but also due to the strength needed to be generated through the legs.

Banishing Gender Stereotypes

Image: @harry_garside

Not only has Harry Garside generated headlines for his boxing career, but also for the way in which he aims to banish gender stereotypes and to be a role model for young men who want to be a little bit quirky. He has been seen on numerous occasions rocking nail polish or wearing women’s clothing.

Image: @harry_garside

He has previously spoken to Fox News Sports (via The Bridge) about his decision to wear nail polish, which he showed off following his Olympic medal in. He said, “

There are a lot of people out there who feel like they have to be something because they’re male or female. I’m all about just being different. I was going to wear a dress to the opening ceremony. But I didn’t want to offend anyone. I feel like some people might take it the wrong way, so this is my way of showcasing something.”

Nicolas Cage Says He Channelled Michael Jordan And Marlon Brando For His Latest Role
Nicolas Cage Says He Channelled Michael Jordan And Marlon Brando For His Latest Role

In the upcoming film Butcher’s Crossing, Nicolas Cage plays a 19th-century buffalo hunter. And he’s revealed his performance was influenced by Michael Jordan and Marlon Brando…

It goes without saying that Nicolas Cage is one interesting dude. The Oscar-winning actor has played multiple eccentric characters over the years (including a fictionalised version of himself in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) and spent a great bulk of his fortune on weird things like a dinosaur skull, Pygmy shrunken heads and a haunted house.

And in true Nic Cage fashion, the actor has revealed that he channelled an odd combination of people for his latest role – NBA star Michael Jordan and iconic actor Marlon Brando.

In the upcoming film, Butcher’s Crossing – which is set in the 1800s – Cage plays an experienced buffalo hunter who convinces a young academic to come along on a dangerous expedition. And in an interview with Collider, Cage spoke about his character – named Miller – and how the director of Butcher’s Crossing, Gabe Polsky, asked him to draw his performance from Jordan.

“We all know the phenomenon and the dynamic force, and the ambition and the need to win of Michael Jordan. [The director] was saying [to me], ‘Think about that. Why don’t you shave your head? Think about that ferociousness that he has on the court, that he has to win at all costs.’ So, I did think about it and then I went ahead and said, ‘Okay’.”

Nicolas Cage

Honestly, the idea that Cage played a 19th-century buffalo hunter while thinking about a 21st-century basketball player is totally absurd. But Polsky, who was also present during the interview, further explained why he wanted Cage to channel Jordan while playing Miller – and it does make (some) sense.

“I think Michael Jordan [is the] greatest athlete ever, but there is kind of a, and he’ll say it himself, you know, a sort of dark side to [him]. He would say that nobody can get [in] his way. He would say things to his teammates and push them to their limits.”

“A lot of people say he’s kind of a dark guy. And that intensity… So, I think there is kind of a darkness to that kind of intensity and ambition, and I always felt that from him, and that’s why I wanted to talk to Nic about Michael Jordan.”

Cage also shared that Brando’s role as an insane Colonel waging guerilla warfare in Apocalypse Now – considered one of the greatest films of all time – had some influence on his performance as Miller in Butcher’s Crossing too.

“… I [also] thought of Francis [Ford Coppola]’s movie Apocalypse Now and what Brando looked like. [Miller] was kind of a combination of Jordan-Brando.”

Nicolas Cage

Currently, Butcher’s Crossing has not yet been given a release date but it’s expected to hit cinemas before the end of this year – and we personally can’t wait to see Cage’s performance after hearing that he channelled both Jordan and Brando.

‘F**k You Air France’: Premium Passenger Rages After Being Downgraded
‘F**k You Air France’: Premium Passenger Rages After Being Downgraded

A premium passenger has torn Air France a new one after being told she was being downgraded on her flight home.

An Air France customer flying home to the UK from Brazil via France looks unlikely to ever fly Air France ever again.

Taking to the Sophisticated Surveillance Tool (or revolutionary social media platform, whichever way you see it) TikTok, TikTok user @dwell_nicely shared her thoughts in the immediate aftermath of the incident in a minute long piece to camera.

“I’m in Rio di Janeiro airport at the moment and I’m trying so hard not to cry. We paid for premium seats because we’re flying with a baby and my husband is 6’4″. We paid 12 thousand dollars, which we so can’t afford and we went to check in and they tell us, ‘Oh sorry we don’t have any premium seats left you’ll have to sit in economy.'”

WATCH: Traveller Rages After Being Downgraded

“I don’t normally have any problem sitting in economy if I’m travelling by myself, but – firstly – I paid 12 thousand dollars so that I wouldn’t have to sit in economy with my baby on my lap for a 17-hour flight (or 15 hours I don’t know it’s really f*cking long), my husband doesn’t even fit in the f*cking economy seat [and] we have to do 3 flights today because we’re flying back to London… we paid premium for both of them… we’re in economy for both of them.”

“F*ck you Air France, really.”

TikTok user @dwell_nicely

TikTok wasn’t super sympathetic, with one user writing: “I’m pretty sure you’ll get your money back.” Another wrote: “Why would you pay $12000 if you couldn’t afford it? Honestly.”

There was a little bit of empathy from some other users, however, with one saying they are sorry to hear about the experience and lending a word of advice: “Compensation…. Dont [sic] accept any vouchers forfeited travel never never, never!!!!!!! I m so sorry your going through this.”

Others questioned her maths, saying there’s no way the seats were that expensive.

In a follow-up video @dwell_nicely explains the situation further, explaining that the flight was actually 10 hours, not 15, and saying the following in regards to the price: “12k was for the 3 seats + baby. They gave us the bassinet in the end so wouldn’t refund but suggested €50 compensation for the broken seat.”

As for how being downgraded works, there does tend to be a priority list, with those who have paid for their flight using points being at the top of it. Next on the chopping block are those who paid with cash, but who aren’t super loyal members of the airline.

Airlines don’t typically overbook premium cabins, so if you’ve been booted from business, your flight route has likely been reassigned a jet with a smaller capacity (due to weather, or some other unplanned contingency).

Major ‘James Bond’ Announcement To Come On October 5th
Major ‘James Bond’ Announcement To Come On October 5th

It looks like a major announcement concerning James Bond is going to be made on the 5th of October – just over two weeks away!

The beloved 007 spy known as James Bond has been a significant part of pop culture for almost 70 years. First appearing in Casino Royale, a 1953 novel by Ian Fleming, James Bond has now been featured in multiple books and films.

Most recently, Bond was played by Daniel Craig in No Time To Die. Of course, Craig’s iteration of the character (spoiler!) died in that film so everyone’s been speculating who will be the next actor play to the iconic spy.

And Bond fans think we’ll finally know in just two weeks… The official Instagram account for Ian Fleming Publications has posted an image that declares “an announcement” will be made on the 5th of October – which is ‘James Bond Day’.

Needless to say, this announcement could be a number of things – a new James Bond book, for example. But fans are flooding the comments section adamantly arguing that the Instagram post is definitely teasing that on October 5th, a new Bond actor will be revealed.

Mark your calendars, Bond fans. Image Credit: @ianflemings007

One user commented, “I’m going to say a new Bond is announced,” while another wrote, “New Bond Tom Hardy finally announced”.

To be slightly pessimistic, it would be unusual for the Ian Fleming Publications account to reveal who the new Bond actor is, as EON Productions is responsible for the films. Plus, when Craig was officially announced as the new Bond back in 2005, it was done so at a press conference held on a speedboat… Not via social media.

With that being said, Instagram didn’t exist back then and the Bond films are based on Fleming’s novels so there is a small possibility that this upcoming announcement could have something to do with the next Bond actor.

Sadly, there’s no way to know exactly what Ian Fleming Publications will unveil on the 5th of October, so we’ll all just have to wait. We recommend enjoying a few martinis (obviously shaken, not stirred) and watching the existing Bond films to pass the time – that’s what we’ll be doing.

Shaquille O’Neal Leaves Fans In Awe With Incredible Workout Video
Shaquille O’Neal Leaves Fans In Awe With Incredible Workout Video

Shaquille O’Neal, one of America’s most famous former professional basketball players, revealed earlier this year that he had got a talking to from his doctor. It appears he has since been working out like a demon, and now he has taken to Instagram with a video that has left fans in awe.

Shaquille O’Neal, former NBA star and now Inside the NBA star, has taken to Instagram with an awe-inspiring mid workout video. Big Shaq, now 50, took to Instagram on Sunday, showing himself to be looking very big indeed. The video, which looks to have been taken mid-workout, was posted with the song “When you’re old, but look young” as the soundtrack.

Fans were so impressed that they left an array of fawning remarks (and deliberately bold claims). “BULLS NEED U let’s gooo,” one said. “Ok OG!!!!” none other than Michael B. Jordan wrote. “Looking like your from 1992” musical artist @mopacino wrote.

WATCH: Shaq Posts Mid-Workout Vanity Video…

Another Instagram commenter quipped: “SHAQ ready to help the Lakers win next season lol.” Even UFC star Israel Adesanya was impressed, writing: “Diesel!!”

The furore made its way onto Twitter, too, where people made comments along the lines of: “He can go back and average 20 and 10” and “How does bro have a six pack?”

On-air television personality Ro Parrish wrote: “Bout time you posted the progress bro!!!” Speaking of progress, during an interview with GQ USA earlier this year, Shaq talked about the time he went to get a routine check-up at the doctor. The doctor told him he had sleep apnea and was at risk of strokes or hypertension.

“I had to really get checked out. When they hit you with that three-letter word that starts with D and ends with E, it changes stuff up,” said Shaq.

He also said he did old man workouts, none of this Crossfit stuff, and that he opts for the elliptical machine over running.

“Just cardio—30-40 minutes—then chest, arms, biceps, triceps. A simple old man workout. I can’t do all that CrossFit stuff.”

“Well, I tried to run the other day and I’m like, ‘How was I the greatest athlete in the world?’ I just lost everything. So: The elliptical.”

Shaquille O’Neal

Shaq’s video has now been reposted all over the place, with the clip blowing minds everywhere from Bleacher Report to Essentially Sports.

Introducing Matador Meggings: Activewear Meets Innovation
Introducing Matador Meggings: Activewear Meets Innovation

This article was produced in partnership with Matador Meggings.

Activewear for men is a product category that pales in comparison to the huge market available for women. For men, the only real option when it comes to activewear bottoms is a pair of loose-fitting shorts – this is largely due to the male anatomy and potential breach of indecent exposure laws.

Men’s leggings have rarely been given a thought, and for those brands who do produce some form of tights or compression pants for men, they still require a pair of shorts worn over the top to prevent any glancing eyes. Matador Meggings is now here to put an end to that, with men’s leggings – meggings – that can be worn without a pair of cover-up shorts and without showing to the world what you’re packing downstairs thanks to their No-VPL (visible penis line) Technology.

What are Matador Meggings?

Matador Meggings is the brainchild of Valentine Aseyo, who, as a fully-qualified yoga instructor, realised that he was the only member in his class who was essentially banned from wearing leggings, lest he run the risk of showing off what he calls the male VPL (visible penis line). With a desire to fill a huge gap in the market and encourage guys to get in on the leggings movement, Valentine created these leggings specifically designed for the male body, and Matador Meggings was born.

Named after the famous traditional Spanish bullfighters – who are known for wearing tights – the modern-day version, Matador Meggings, have a raft of features and benefits for the active man (which are detailed below).

Their main draw, though, has to be the specially designed crotch area that hides any indication of your manhood, allowing you to run, train, practice yoga or even just head for weekend brunch in a pair of uber-comfortable leggings without the need for shorts over the top.

Matador Meggings offer more essential features than anything else on the market.

Everything you need, nothing you don’t

It’s not just a proprietary crotch-hiding pouch that makes Matador Meggings so beneficial for men. Matadors also offer a range of other useful features that other men’s compression pants are simply missing. Such features include a small loop on the rear to feed your gym towel or t-shirt through when you’re not using it and a non-slip, low-rise waistband to prevent your meggings from slipping down during use. Of course, being made from a figure-hugging compression material will minimise this risk, but extra protection is always a good thing.

Our favourite feature (and a first for men’s leggings as a whole) offered by Matadors is the pockets! All pairs come with a dedicated open pocket on the side for your phone – which expands to accept phones of all sizes – and a separate zippered pocket on the other side to look after your keys, cards and any other small essentials, with the idea being you can just take only what you need to your gym class and leave the bag at home.

Matador Meggings are all about fun and expressing your personality, which is why they are available in over 50 different prints and colours. This was another deliberate decision by Valentine, who would always see a sea of black or grey leggings being worn by men. Believing this to be somewhat boring, he came up with a huge selection of funky, unique and interesting patterns, ranging from slightly more muted camouflage to more in-your-face prints and other abstract designs.

In coming up with this wide range of styles, Matador Meggings fall perfectly into the festival clothing category too, making them the most versatile men’s leggings on the market.

And of course, as they’re designed for active men, Matador Meggings are made from a sweat-wicking and anti-odour fabric to keep you feeling fresher for longer and to help you cut down on the number of wash cycles you need to run in your washing machine.

Matador Meggings inject plenty of fun into your gym clothing.

Compress for success

Matador Meggings aren’t just your run-of-the-mill tights or leggings but are instead compression pants designed specifically for men. Compression wear has multiple benefits when it comes to staying active, chief among which is providing extra stability and support for your muscles. With this additional support – which also includes support to joints such as your knees – your body is better prepared and more stable when performing various lifts, such as squats.

The benefits of compression wear continue after you’ve finished your workout, run, yoga class or any other fitness activity, as the extra pressure asserted on your muscles helps to improve blood circulation, which in turn helps with the recovery process and minimises the risk of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). And let’s be honest, while you may think that soreness is a sign you actually did something at the gym, nobody really enjoys it.

Matador Meggings offer plenty of comfort for day-long hikes or just a walk to weekend brunch.

Meggings for all occasions

We’ve talked up the benefits of wearing Matador Meggings to the gym or when you’re performing any kind of activity. But where activewear has seen real adoption is during a morning or evening walk or just something to wear to weekend breakfast with friends. So again, why should a man’s experience be any different?

Because of the cleverly designed soft cup pouch keeping you in place and preventing you from showing off to passers-by, Matador Meggings give men a comfortable clothing option to wear practically anywhere they can think of. Admittedly, you probably won’t wear them to your 9-5 office job, we appreciate there is a time and a place, but for every other situation, wearing a pair of breathable and comfortable meggings makes absolute sense. Get too hot in jeans? Too cold in a pair of shorts? Matador Meggings fill the void perfectly.

Matador’s mission is to give men greater choice when it comes to their workout gear and everyday clothing. Not only do meggings introduce a new clothing category for men to enjoy, but the sheer breadth of choice of prints, patterns and colours of Matadors means you can effectively have an entire wardrobe full of them to constantly have in rotation. The soft moulded crotch cup is the game-changing design men have been waiting for and gives them back some confidence to wear what has long been considered a women-only product.

Matador offers prints and colours for all tastes.

A whole wardrobe of Matador gear

It’s not just leggings that Matador offers for men. While their meggings may be the hero product, the brand has taken the technology, comfort and fit and applied it to compression shorts and cycling gear. Matador compression shorts are the knee-length version of the brand’s leggings with the bottom half chopped off, giving men the exact same fit, comfort and soft moulded crotch up, just in a shorter design for the warm summer months.

If you don’t necessarily need extra support around your knees, for example, then the Matador compression shorts make a worthy alternative to the full-length meggings. Better still, you get the same huge choice of colours, patterns and prints to choose from and they retain the towel loop on the back and phone and zippered pockets on the sides.

Matador’s compression shorts offer just as much style and function.

Valentine, the founder of Matador Meggings, is also a keen cyclist, but often found cycling shorts offered by other brands didn’t have enough padding on the rear. So, he made his own. Matador now offers a new range of bike-specific gear in the form of biker shorts and biker leggings, which utilise the same breathable, sweat-wicking, high-quality fabrics as the brand’s regular meggings, and add a triple-layer of padding on the rear. This extra padding gives extra protection to your derriere for those longer cycle sessions or spin classes, while the soft crotch cup prevents you from exposing yourself when you stop off at a cafe or pub for a refuel.

Also in the Matador clothing lineup is a range of t-shirts and tank tops, which are both made from an incredibly soft fabric that feels silky to the touch. Like the meggings, they’re anti-odour and moisture-wicking, and even wrinkle-resistant! What else can a boy ask for? No matter how hard you try, you’ll never see a wrinkle in your Matador top, so you can throw it into a bag and have it looking like new for your session

The same prints and designs are replicated across all pieces of Matador clothing, so you can match your outfits entirely from head to toe, or mix things up. A pair of bright and loud meggings paired with a solid black singlet, for example.

Matador does still offer essential colours for those wanting a more reserved look.

Why Matador Meggings?

The idea of men wearing leggings is one that is usually met with disdain, but we’d also suspect the main reason being that the male anatomy isn’t always designed to pair well with tight-fitting clothing. This is the exact problem Matador set out to solve and, based on the brand’s, we’d say it’s certainly succeeded.

The inclusion of the removable crotch cup can also help boost the self-confidence of men who may be unwilling to wear leggings or wear shorts over the top of them if they feel they show too little. No matter how many times women say size doesn’t matter, it can still be a cause of anxiety for many men.

So, wearing clothing that may confirm their insecurities isn’t going to be something all men are going to be keen to do. With a pair of Matador Meggings, however, there is nothing to worry about. Every single pair has the exact same cup, giving off the same outward appearance. Not only has Matador created a product to help men perform at their best in the gym, but he’s also created a product that permits men to be themselves, whenever, wherever.

Our Matador picks

With such a varied range of products, choosing the best Matador meggings or a complete Matador outfit can actually be easier said than done. To help provide some inspiration, we’ve picked out some of our favourites.

We can’t imagine anyone not liking the grey camo meggings.

Grey Camo Meggings

Camouflage is always cool, which makes the grey camo Matador meggings one of our favourite pairs. The solid black stripes running down the legs help tone them down a little, while the grey colouring makes them easy to pair with any colour top you wish.

With camouflage being a common pattern down the high street, these grey camo Matador meggings are perfect for wearing around town on the weekend. Pair them with a white or black t-shirt and either a pair of black running shoes or even some white sneakers and you have yourself a cool and casual weekend look.

Matador’s arrow meggings are perfect for both the gym and festivals.

Arrow Meggings

Matador is all about loud prints and expressing your style, and the Arrow Meggings are one of the hero products leading that charge. They couldn’t be more opposite to the sea of black and grey you see in your gym, but that’s exactly what makes them so appealing. Pull on a pair, throw on a singlet or even a matching Matador top and waltz your way into your gym or yoga studio. You’re guaranteed to have other gym-goers coming to ask you where they can get their own.

If you don’t see yourself wearing the Arrow Meggings in the gym, we’re sure you can see yourself wearing them to a festival. The breathable and supportive compression material will stay comfortable all day long and the side pockets give you a convenient place to store your phone, cash and keys. Say goodbye to bum bags and bag searches.

Matador’s No-VPL technology completely hides your crotch.

Black/Gray Shorts

Of course, not everybody is going to be into loud and crazy patterns, so for those who want to go for a more reserved look but still benefit from Matador’s compression technology and features not provided by other brands, there’s this pair of black and gray shorts.

With the ability to match with literally any top and any pair of running or training shoes you own and with Matador’s towel loop and pockets to hand, your workouts will never have felt better.

You can mix and match Matador pieces, or go for a full matching set.

Marble Tank Top

A well-performing tank top is essential for a great workout as it allows for freer movement when performing lifts and curls. Matador’s Marble Tank Top is our pick here, not only because the fabric feels great against your skin, helps to wick sweat away from your skin to keep you cool and is anti-odour, making it good for several wears, but we think the design is great.

The white marble effect offers a refreshing change from the usual onslaught of solid white or black singlets on show in gyms and yoga studios, and it pairs perfectly with a pair of solid colour leggings or shorts.
