Illusionist David Copperfield has just proven that mastering a couple of magic tricks will put you on the fast track to success having just shelled out $17.55million to shatter the record for the highest price ever paid for a single family home in Las Vegas.
Copperfield’s new uber-modern mega-mansion is located in a prestigious, guard-gated enclave in the master-planned Summerlin community on the western outskirts of town and was custom-built into a 31,000-square-foot stone, glass and steel kingdom from a flat parcel purchased in 2005 for a humble $2.575 million.
The four-story home features a roof terrace a 6,177-square-foot subterranean garage, 6 bedrooms, 8 full and 3 half bathrooms, plus two guesthouses that each have another bedroom and bathroom. As if that wasn’t enough already, Copperfield’s new digs also includes a golf simulation room, movie theatre, wine cellar, glass-walled gym, full-service spa facility, infinity pool, two commercial grade elevators and a tricked out nightclub with a bar and dance floor.
Adding to the madness is the fact that this is not David Copperfield’s only home. In fact, the master illusionist also maintains a four-story penthouse in Midtown Manhattan he bought in 1997 for $7.4 million, and that’s without even mentioning the string of 11 islands he owns in the Bahamas that he rents out for around $400,000 per week. We’ll just wait for you to pick your jaw up of the floor.

What makes a special haircut? For some it’s the deft hands. For others it’s the trust and final package that can only come from decades of patronage.
For Milan’s Franco Bompieri it’s the ability to cut hair with an open flame. Bompieri owns and runs Milan’s last traditional barber shop, having been in the business for 72 years.
RELATED: 6 Common Men’s Hair Mistakes That Are Killing Your Vibe
The clip shows the intricate method of grooming hair with fire as Bompieri explains the benefits of this old school technique. The hair is first cut as normal with scissors and a comb before the ends are lightly singed to supposedly help it recover and grow thicker. This, according to Bompieri, will prevent hair from falling out.
No one can really argue with an 83-year-old who has a full head of hair himself…except maybe for the genetics researchers. Watch the video above explaining the lost art.

There’s no doubt that smell plays an important part in physical attraction with a general understanding that smelling bad will do you no favours when it comes to dating. However, there is growing belief from researchers that our unique bodily scents play a bigger part in our lives than we realise.
One TIME writer asked the poignant question, “can you sniff your way to love” by joining a matchmaking service called Smell Dating, with some interesting results. “For three days and nights I wore the same cotton t-shirt, through sweaty workouts and while I slept. Showers were allowed. Deodorant was not. After 72 hours, the cotton was pickled in my essence,” she writes. Just lovely.
The folks at Smell Dating took her sweat stained t-shirt and mailed it to 10 people who had also signed up to the service. “I’d get stinky t-shirt samples, other people would get stinky t-shirt samples, and if by chance any two of us chooses each other’s odour, the team will introduce us.”
Apparently, the concept behind Smell Dating is that by sniffing other people’s body odour instead of swiping right on their photos we rely on primal bodily intuition. With 15% of all Americans frequently using Tinder, Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat to find love, Smell Dating is a bit of a throwback, “a way to connect us, at long last, with out most basic, biological mating cues.”
Smell Dating’s website says “…We understand the metrics of compatibility are chemical; connection is a matter of intercourse not interface. The Internet has replaced fleshy experience with flat apparitions, avatars and painstakingly curated profile pics. Smell Dating closes digital distance by restoring your molecular intuition. Our members make connections via deeply intuitive cues, perfected in the ancient laboratory of human evolution. Surrender yourself to a poignant experience of body odour.” And all for the low cost of $25.

We’ve all been taught over the years to see carbohydrates as the enemy, and there’s no doubt that stuffing your face with potato chips all day won’t help your waistline. However, it turns out there are some healthy carbs you can enjoy without risking those gains.
#1 Barley
A study from Sweden discovered that boiled barley kernels can change bacteria in your gut, kickstarting your metabolism for the better. Researchers also found that this fibre-rich starch ‘decreases huger sensations’ so you won’t be reaching for a cheeky chocolate come 3pm. Barley goes great in pancakes, salad and soups.
#2 Oatmeal
If you’re looking to warm yourself for the inside out this winter then you can do it guilt-free with oatmeal. Los Angeles-based dietitian and entertainment nutritionist Shira Lenchewski is a huge advocate for oatmeal. She says that oatmeal’s complex (good) carbs not only fill you up, but they’ll make you less likely to binge at lunch. Hint: steer clear of oatmeal brands with added sweeteners and flavours.
#3 Maple Water
“Although coconut water seems to get all the attention these days, maple water is some healthy competition,” says Lenchewski. In fact, maple water contains half the sugar of coconut water and only about 20 calories per 8-oz serving. It’s all packed full of nutrients like manganese, iron and calcium perfect for replenishing fluids post-workout.
#4 Popcorn
Ditch the potato chips and get stuck into some popcorn next time you’re having carb cravings. In a study that compared the short-term satiety of popcorn and potato chips, food and health researchers found that most volunteers reportedly felt less hunger and more satisfaction after eating popcorn. Satisfaction + eating less = less calories.
#5 Quinoa
It’s a powerhouse grain that you’ve always struggled to pronounce, and spell, but it also contains nearly twice as much fibre as other grains. That means the fibre gets released much slower into the bloodstream, keeping blood sugar levels balanced and increasing your metabolism. Quinoa is also naturally gluten-free and produces lower free fatty acid levels which is linked to insulin resistance.
#6 Roasted Chickpeas
Loaded with fibre and protein, a 2014 study found that eating pulses like chickpeas can prevent overeating and help keep weight regulated. Tip: roast soaked chickpeas 375 degrees for 40 minutes, add 3 tablespoons of oil your favourite spices for an addictive snack.
#7 Whole-Grain Rye Crispbread
Instead of binging on that overpriced avocado on sourdough at the cafe, go for whole-grain rye crispbread. It’s high in fibre, low in sodium and totally fat-free. In fact, Swedish researchers found that whole-grain rye bread ranked number one among the rye flours when it comes to controlling blood sugars and regulating appetite.
#8 Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes aren’t only the latest hipster food trend, they’re the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth and carb cravings in one go. Apparently, a medium-size sweet potato contains about 27 grams of carbs but they’ve been shown to increase levels of adiponectin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar, and also encourage a faster metabolism.
#9 Whole-Grain Breakfast Cereal
If you love Cheerios you’ll be pleased with the news that whole-grain cereals are actually low in fat and high in fibre. One study showed that men and women who consumed more whole-grain cereals had a much lower BMI and less abdominal fat.
#10 2% Plain Greek Yoghurt
You might not think greek yoghurt is a typical carb, but its naturally occurring milk sugars (a.k.a. simple carbs) aren’t as bad as they sound. Research has found that consuming probiotic yogurt can reduce your BMI and body fat percentage. Apparently, greek yoghurt provides a powerful combination of natural sugar and satiating fat as well as a massive punch of protein. If you eat it, along with a low-calorie diet, “…the healthy fats and protein can prevent blood sugar levels from dropping, which will help keep sugar cravings at bay,” says Lenchewski.

Spacesuits might not be your forte but for one actor it’s a regular ensemble for traversing the fringes of the galaxy. Luckily he also has his style chops sorted back home back on Earth. The name is Zachary Quinto and he plays Spock in J.J Abrams’ modern rendition of Star Trek.
In today’s edition of celebrity style steal we’re leaving the pointy ears and man-bangs at home as we take a look at the 39-year-old’s impeccable off-screen style. Live long and let your wardrobe game prosper.
Breaking It Down
Zachary Quinto is not one to shy away when it comes to stepping out in colour. Often opting for brighter hues that complement his natural charisma, the American actor can easily pull off the latest fashion trends with little effort. All it takes is a bit of creativity, good fitment, statement prints and you’re there.
Quinto has three key looks to suit every season and occasion but the recurring theme throughout is an off-beat Summer look that works even in the colder seasons.
For the red carpet it’s all about the burgundy suit. A conservative colour by no means, Quinto makes sure to keep the depth of the hue in check by contrasting it with a textured white shirt. This allows for the vibrant tie and pocket square to do its job nicely without being overpowered by a sea of purple. Pair it with tan dress shoes and you’re on your way to a standout look.
Moving along there’s Quinto’s more Summer casual and street-inspired look for all seasons. The highly versatile look is a simple case of pairing a suede textured bomber in light navy with the legendary white denim and white sneakers (Stan Smiths are huge at the moment). Throw in a Summer polka dot shirt and you’ve got Timberlake written all over your next get up.
Last but not least is Quinto’s weekend look. It oozes endless Summer cool and remains at the pointy end of tailored garments that aren’t suits. The fitting is the key factor here, taking inspiration directly from the street styles of Europe and more specifically Italy’s Pitti Uomo rat pack. Again it’s not how many garments you layer but what those layers convey. A statement shirt with a wild pattern print is key to this look, worn naturally and tucked perfectly into a pair of fitted chinos. Pair it with dark brown brogues and you’ve scored Spock’s off-duty wardrobe.

The Lancia name is commonly heard amongst Italian circles. Its accolades however are purely synonymous with the world of Group B rallying, a defunct motorsport series which compromised little in the pursuit of speed during the 80s.
In the latest episode of Petrolicious, audiences are introduced to rally car aficionado John Campion who happens to own one of the very rare classics from the Italian manufacturer, the ultra rare Delta S4.
After a lengthy intro on the history of the car and how he came to attain it, Campion takes the trophy swiping car onto the circuit for a cool demonstration of what it takes to build a true rally machine.

It’s not every day that you get to explore some of the most remote places of the Earth, but photographer Jimmy Nelson has spent the past three years doing just that.
In fact, for his photographic book ‘Before They Pass Away’, Nelson has ventured off the beaten track to capture these images of the last surviving tribes on Earth.
While Nelson’s work is breathtaking to say the least, it has come under fierce controversy for focusing on tribes naturally ‘passing away’ and “glossing over the genocidal violence to which many of the tribes pictured are being subjected.”
“Individually the people are all very sweet, but as their culture is being threatened they’re forced to stand up for themselves,” says Nelson. Click through the slideshow for preview of Nelson’s ‘Before They Pass Away’ which is available for purchase online now.
