These Are Melbourne's Most Amazing Burgers
These Are Melbourne's Most Amazing Burgers

The humble hamburger has grown into a serious foodie movement in recent years, leaving behind the tattered old fast food image for something that causes gourmet lovers to go weak at the knees.

These days it’s all about the wagyu patties, the salt aged beef, the American jack cheese and McClures pickles sandwiched between secret sauces. This is the humble burger but not as your ten-year-old self once knew it. And these are the ten best burgers Melbourne town has to offer.

Easey’s

Easey’s began life in a train carriage in Collingwood where it slowly worked its way up the ranks of the burger empire. Today it’s one of Melbourne’s finest offering up a solid menu which includes their signature monstrosity called the Melbourne Madness (double patty, double cheese, bacon, potato cake and dim sim). Crazy? That’s the point.

637 Chapel St, South Yarra

The Beaufort And Ike’s

The specialty here is wood smoked meats complemented with a mean burger menu. The double patty cheese, the chicken, the shroom, the triple patty and of course, the Frankenstein pulled pork and beef burger. There are no losers at this burger joint.

421 Rathdowne St, Carlton

Royal Stacks

Taking the best of locally sourced produce and serving it between a bun is Royal Stacks. The beef here comes from Ross Laconis of VIC Meats and is 100% Australian, pasture fed and made daily. Following in the footsteps of New York institution Shake Shack, the Royal Stacks menu also includes frozen custards and concrete mixers for those with enough room for dessert.

470 Collins St, Melbourne

Fat Bob’s Bar & Grill

They don’t call this place a gourmet burger joint for nothing. Fat Bob’s Bar & Grill is renowned for its handmade gourmet burgers which borrows the freshest local ingredients as the star between its buns. Bob’s signature burger is named, you guessed it, Fat Bob, a behemoth packing a 180g grass-fed patty along with bacon, egg and all the trimmings. Actually, Bob believes in going big or going home so all oh their burgers pack 180g beef patties. You’ll be going home fat and happy and that’s exactly the point.

80 Cochranes Rd, Moorabbin

Rockwell & Sons

Good wholesome food is what Rockwell & Sons is all about with everything from a double patty burger to a fried chicken burger to a pressed rib sandwich. It’s all on offer here and it’s done in the most fashionable way to feast both your eyes and your bellies.

288 Smith St, Collingwood

Betty’s Burgers

At Betty’s it’s all about the classic 50s burger shack aesthetic backed by amazing burgers. The emphasis here is on fresh, simple, quick and delicious food made right in front of the customer’s eyes to ensure there’s a story to tell in every bite. When that’s all done, people can move onto devouring Betty’s in-house made frozen custards and concretes.

97 Elizabeth St, Melbourne

Royale Brothers

These guys are the winners of the best burger in Australia 2016 so there’s not much to say except try the damn Royale with cheese and then wash it down with one of their finest ice cream and sorbets.

1 Church St, Brighton

8bit

Creativity rules in this burger lab with the classics cheeseburgers paired with 8bit’s special sauce right through to a fried chicken offering with sriracha mayo. Those with balls bigger than their stomachs can opt for the ‘Double Dragon’ which is exactly what you think it is – a big ass burger.

8 Droop St, Footscray

Huxtaburger

Honed and crafted from years over the grill, Huxtaburger is located all over Melbourne and that’s a good thing because their burgers are consistently on point with everything from breakfast to beef to chicken to vege to mini burgers all catered for. The extensive menu naturally extends to desserts and shakes all done in-house.

357 Collins St, Melbourne

Andrew’s Hamburgers

Simple in appearance but a party for your tastebuds, Andrew’s is a long standing institution in Melbourne which kicked off way before the new wave of burger-preneurs were even born – like, 1939 way back. Their burgers with the lot are backed up by an eclectic menu consisting of souvlaki and dim sims but it’s their reputation for beautifully prepared beef between the buns is what keeps the generations of customers coming back.

BXR Is The Latest Boxing Gym You'd Want To Live In
BXR Is The Latest Boxing Gym You'd Want To Live In

We’ve already looked at some of the best boxing gyms in Sydney and Melbourne, now let London town show the ring aficionados how to build a world class boxing gym that will leave people speechless.

BXR London is the latest state-of-the-art training facility to join the UK’s growing list of glossy boutique gyms and this one looks more like a designer bachelor pad than a sweat factory. The venue is spread across an expansive 1,115 square-metre space complete with 6 metre high ceilings, a juice bar, chic industrial finished amenities and more fitness equipment than you can poke a barbell at.

Bergman Interiors co-founder Marie Soliman, who oversaw the gym’s design along with Albin Berglund told Wallpaper that, “BXR is a real showcase in the boxing world. We are reflecting the history, the glamour and the craftsmanship of the sport.”

“We used a rich blend of backlit dark tinted mirror, bronze accents along with warm Cognac-coloured leather.”

The goal behind BXR is to create a boxing space which is both theatrical in paying homage to the sport whilst being unintimidating to those who have never set foot inside a boxing gym. Short of wanting to move in and live there after joining, members can utilise BXR’s in-house clinic, throw back some organic juice from Joe & The Juice’s custom menu or simply admire the raw concrete decor complete with murals.

Even the in-house sound system possesses enough power to rival those of an Ibiza night club.

Would you consider living in this gym? Let us know below.

Here's The Real Reason Why You're Not Seeing Fitness Gains
Here's The Real Reason Why You're Not Seeing Fitness Gains

If you’re someone who regularly visits the gym, performs an effective mixture of chest workouts, leg workouts and back workouts, and even eats right, but you’re still not seeing noticeable differences, there could be some other factors at play.As we’ve discussed before, the reason you’re not making gains could come down to your mentality, rather than your physicality.Former Australian Special Forces Commando Scott Evennett is a man who understands what it takes to be both physically and mentally tough, and he’s now revealed the real reasons you’re not making fitness gains.

Quite simply, obsession creates rapid progress. We all speak of finding a balance in our many life endeavours. But in my experience, a balanced approach brings more slow and steady results, and in today’s world slow and steady just doesn’t cut it.

In fact, throughout my whole life, I have had a tendency to approach things with pure obsession and passion, but also put in methods to prevent burn out too soon. To me, this is my balance.

1. Maximum Pain Brings Maximum Gain

Muscle Gains
That old saying

Instead of going through life at a constant steady climb like jogging up a hill, I prefer to switch between a flat out sprinting and a steady walk. Think about when you go for a run, that slow jog is so boring! It’s not too fast, not to slow. It’s a moderate challenge, without exerting much pain at all. Sprinting is what requires maximal effort. It’s a measure of power, strength, skill, and endurance.

There is always a lot of pain involved. It’s the fastest path between point 1 and 2, and you tend to have NO distractions. You have a clear vision, tunnel vision. You can’t possibly be thinking of anything else. This is when you’re focused on only the task at hand, this is execution time.

Walking is at the most opposite end of the scale. You are purposefully taking it easy, recover and relaxation time, time to look back on the sprint phase and re-zero your target for the next task. Here my mind is free to explore, observe and wonder. This is my time for brainstorming and reflection. For me, this is a holiday, a day at the beach, time with my family, a ride on the Harley.

The word ‘obsession’ often comes with a bad stigma to some, but for me it’s how I live my life. Do you know the actual definition of obsession? Let’s take a look.

2. Obsession Defined

Look at how bad you want it
There are three key definitions for obsession:

  • An idea or thought that continually preoccupies or intrudes on a person’s mind.
  • A state of which someone thinks about someone or something constantly or frequently especially in a way that is with a huge amount of passion.
  • An activity that someone is very interested in or spends a lot of time doing.

You might think I’m crazy, but I don’t think that description sounds too bad, to be honest. It gets me excited and hungry for my next project. The value of obsession comes down to what that person is obsessed with.

My obsessions are what drive me to be successful, living a healthy progressive lifestyle is a priority for me. Stop looking at obsession in the wrong light and open your eyes to the fact that it’s only as good or as bad as the things you are obsessed with.

3. Obsession Comes From Simple Goals

Think back to the first thing you were ever driven to accomplish

I remember my first obsession; Playing FIFA (soccer) on my PlayStation. Controlling how quick those players could make decisions and play the ball with pinpoint accuracy. Seeing the play on screen before it happened. I wanted to be able to think that fast in real life, I wanted to be able to react and play that sharp. I was obsessed with being as good as a virtual reality soccer player. So I did…

I would spend every spare minute of my time in the backyard kicking and playing with the soccer ball. Hitting it against the wall as hard as I could and reacting to the bounce, to improve my reflexes and touch. I would conduct sprints up my driveway to increase my speed and power, sometimes dragging a rubbish bin or two to add more weight. And I would continue to study the game both on the PlayStation and Fox Sports, every last detail of the player’s moves. I would be the captain of every team I played for (and I did).

I was absolutely obsessed with this for a period of time until I felt I had reached my peak and built a solid foundation of knowledge. Then it was time to look back and reflect and choose my next task; this is pretty much how I have approached everything I have ever been interested in.

When I am at this stage I won’t limit how many hours a day I commit to the tasks needed to progress and learn, which means I learn fast and progress quickly. When you’re obsessed you can go from a beginner to advanced in a very short space of time on the task at hand.

My biggest take away from here is when you immerse yourself in something, you will progress fast and succeed quickly, don’t hold yourself back or let anyone else hold you back. Chase your dreams no matter how crazy they may seem, yes this could take focus away from other areas of your life but it’s OK, you can make these up later.

Stay dedicated to your passion in Life.

This 'Anti-Energy Drink' Bottle Invites Sippers To Slow Down
This 'Anti-Energy Drink' Bottle Invites Sippers To Slow Down

Attend any sporting event and you’ll be bombarded with branding from aggressively-named energy drinks. These amped up beverages are beast mode in a bottle, designed to make their drinkers work hard, play harder, and rage on.

But Polish design studio Opus B thinks that what people really need is to chill the hell out, so they created the world’s first anti-energy drink bottle.

Simply called Slow, the beverage is described as “a soothing drink for those who find it hard to find a moment for themselves in their everyday busy lives.” A tag attacked to the bottle’s neck reads: “Take a breath, listen to the silence, enjoy life, enjoy yourself. Take this moment, now be. Just be.”

The beverage’s packaging is carefully crafted to encourage relaxation and reflection. Two bottles connect in the shape of an hourglass – a reminder that time is precious, as well as tactic to slow the drinker down. The two halves must be twisted apart in order to drink, meaning they take more time to serve and are best sipped in company.

“Our principal idea was to design a package which will provoke the creation of a new ritual of consumption,” said Opus B’s Aleksandra Wiśniewska. “The package creates a pretext to stop, think and catch a moment for yourself.”

“We wanted to make associations with the passing of time, countdowns and some sort of transiency,” she added. “The watching of an hourglass is a certain ritual which may be soothing and relaxing thanks to its monotony.”

Opus B’s anti-energy drink bottle was recognised at the 2017 Dieline Awards for packaging design.

A DJ May Have Accidentally Revealed Banksy's Identity
A DJ May Have Accidentally Revealed Banksy's Identity

Is a Massive Attack member the man behind Banksy?

The question of Banksy’s identity has fascinated fans and haters alike, and it’s back in the news again thanks to a slip of the tongue from English DJ Goldie.

During an appearance on Scroobius Pip’s weekly Distraction Pieces podcast, Goldie had this to say about the elusive street artist:

“For something like graffiti, which has inspired the world with font or anything to do with anyone wearing a baseball cap and fucking sneakers, at its centre it is still misunderstood. But give me a bubble letter and put it on a t-shirt and write ‘Banksy‘ on it and we’re sorted… We can sell it now. No disrespect to Rob, I think he is a brilliant artist. I think he has flipped the world of art over.”

Rob. Rob who?

Goldie didn’t specify – just paused briefly and changed the subject – but fans have named two suspects.

Option one: he’s Robin Gunningham, a man the Daily Mail “unmasked” as Banksy back in 2008 despite never being able to confirm the theory.

Option two: he’s Robert Del Naja, singer and founding member of Massive Attack. Along with music, Del Naja also produces visual art under the name 3D. Goldie and Del Naja are old friends, and Goldie has previously stated that Del Naja’s artwork is an influence to him. Both ran in the same graffiti circles during the late 1980s.

Journalist Craig Williams carried out a five-month investigation last year during which he concluded that Del Naja is indeed behind Banksy – and that Banksy is not one person, but rather a collective of street artists with Del Naja as their ringleader.

Del Naja denied the claim, calling it “wishful thinking” and “a good story but sadly not true”. “He is a mate as well,” Del Naja said. “He’s been to some of the gigs. It’s purely a matter of logistics and coincidence, nothing more than that.”

Of course, that’s hardly convincing to anyone who believes Del Naja is the man. Banksy murals have frequently appeared in locations where Massive Attack have recently played, and Banksy provided the foreword to Del Naja’s 2016 book, 3D and the Art of Massive Attack.

Goldie’s slip isn’t conclusive proof that Del Naja is Banksy’s Clark Kent, but it’s more than enough grist to get the rumour mill started again.

Airbus Unveils A New Helicopter That's Faster Than A Bugatti Hypercar
Airbus Unveils A New Helicopter That's Faster Than A Bugatti Hypercar

The skies of the future have been revealed with Airbus Helicopter’s latest creation aptly codenamed the ‘Racer’.

Looking like something out of a science fiction film, the helicopter sports twin propellers attached to ‘box wings’ on either side of the body. This enables the Racer to reach cruise speeds of over 400km/h whilst utilising the latest sustainable technology in the Clean Sky 2 European research program.

According to Airbus Helicopters CEO Guillaume Faury, the craft is more than just a concept and the first example of what’s possible in terms of high-speed air transport that is also cost efficient and sustainable.

“This new project, pulling together the skills and know-how of dozens of European partners through the Clean Sky 2 initiative, aims to bring increased speed and range at the right cost, thanks to a simple, safe and proven aerodynamic formula. It will pave the way for new time-sensitive services for 2030 and beyond, setting new benchmarks for high-speed helicopter transportation.”

Assembly of demonstrator Racers will begin in 2019. Until then start saving your coinage and watch the video below.

Good Luck Following Tom Ford's Unbreakable Rules of Style
Good Luck Following Tom Ford's Unbreakable Rules of Style

Believe the hype, Tom Ford is the pinnacle of men’s style. Here are his golden rules for eternal style.

1. I don’t believe in playing around much with suit cuts. I like a fairly classic shape that gives a man strong shoulders, a fitted waist, and long legs. Classic simplicity always works.

2. Someone who is secure enough to be very present when relating to another person is sexy. In other words, a good listener always lands who he wants.

3. When mixing patterns, don’t think about it too much—just throw it together.

4. I hate the trend of short suit jackets. When a man’s butt is showing below the bottom of his jacket, I think it makes him look like a female flight attendant from the back—not my idea of sexy.

5. With jewelry, I actually like bracelets more than anything else, but they have to be small and simple. Cary Grant always wore a simple gold bracelet with his watch, and I think that was very chic.

6. If you’re careful not to overuse Botox, then yes, why shouldn’t you use it? A little bit of it between the brows can make you look less stern and more approachable. Who needs to frown, anyway?

7. Just like girls need to learn to be comfortable in heels before they go out in them for the first time, a man should try wearing a suit throughout a normal day. I do most things in a suit—and sometimes even in a tuxedo—and so I’m really comfortable in one.

8. When it comes to grooming, keep earwax out of the ears and keep stray hairs and flakes of skin in check and you should be good to go. In the morning, I put ice cubes on my eyes and use lots of Visine.

9. Time and silence are the most luxurious things today.

10. There’s one indulgence every man should try in his lifetime: If you’re straight, sleep with a man at least once, and if you’re gay, don’t go through life without sleeping with a woman. Either way, you might be surprised at how natural it will feel if you can get past the mind-fuck of stereotypes. In the end, it’s just another person that you are relating to in a physical way.

A Luxe Industrial Noho Loft By Motiani Design
A Luxe Industrial Noho Loft By Motiani Design

A little bit country, a little bit rock n’ roll – a little bit of Donny and Marie may be the best way to describe this loft by Motiani Design in Manhattan’s Noho neighbourhood.

Veerta Motiani’s eclectic design sensibility mixes seemingly-incompatible interior design flavours into a cohesive whole. We’re noted fans of the industrial look here at D’Marge, so at first glance, we fell for the apartment’s strong industrial core of exposed beams, high ceilings, and Edison bulbs.

But we’re also fans of Scandinavian design, so at second glance, it was the neutral colour palette and minimalist lines that caught our eye.

Then we kept glancing, and the more we glanced, the more we noticed. Velvet furniture and pillows add a touch of luxe that’s often missing from more spartan industrial spaces. Scattered plants – including an entire tree in the office – bring in a taste of organic, boho style. A coffee table of art books and polished horns is unapologetically haute, but head to the bedroom and a few pops of tie dye and gingham suddenly create a low-key, almost country vibe. And don’t even get us started on the vintage trunk desk.

Should it work? Absolutely not. But does it? We’d move in tomorrow.

Oliver Cheshire Shows Us Why This Is The Hottest Colour Right Now

The styling rulebook for men often stipulates that we’re banished from ever stepping foot near these faux pas: Your girlfriend’s hat for the races and the colour pink.

Oliver Cheshire rocking salmon trousers

We can’t help you with the former (you sick bastard), but we can certainly chime in on the latter with the help of Oliver Cheshire. The English model last week rocked one of the hottest colours this season to London Fashion Week Men’s and pretty much owned the look with what appeared to be ‘pink’ trousers.

Oliver Spencer sweatshirt in salmon

Put your pitchforks down. We’re going to alleviate your grave concern by saying that men still don’t wear pink – they wear salmon. From T-shirts to shorts to sweatshirts, the salmon hue is the colour of summer (hell, it can even be the colour of winter) and it should be a part of your latest wardrobe arsenal.

Nike Air Presto in salmon

Even our Ginger Sith Lord has been rocking the salmon sneakers into the office in recent times to stares of disbelief. Does he give a shit? No. Because it’s salmon.

Get into, guys. It’s the good kind of fishy.
