How To Wear A Leather Jacket | Outfit Inspiration For Men
How To Wear A Leather Jacket | Outfit Inspiration For Men

First worn as a flight jacket in the early 1900s, the leather jacket is now a style essential for men more than 100 years on. But knowing how to wear a leather jacket poses a flight risk for many.

It makes sense considering the leather jacket jacket has played its part in many roles since its aviator origins: on the silver screen with Marlon Brando in The Wild One, and centre stage in the Seventies as punk bands (think the Sex Pistols) took the leather jacket for ransom.

Going hell for leather, brands are now offering a plethora of jacket styles, steeped in subcultural references and contemporary trends. Preppy lads, cowboys, punks, bikers and mods are all privy to the delights of leather, as well as today’s athleisure enthusiasts.

So with all this choice, how should you wear a leather jacket today? Read on for our simple yet comprehensive guide on wearing the fashion item, whatever your personal style or the occasion.

Leather Jacket With Prints, Patterns & Detailing

An eclectic mix of embroideries, studs and details is defining the new leather jacket in menswear. Jackets come richly embellished with hand-painted florals, stitched military markings in gold and accented with studs. These details can be seen on the arms and chest areas on the leather, creating a quasi-tattoo on the body.

The biggest jacket trend, however, is the statement appliqué on the back of leathers. Embroidered words, a sentence or an animal, bird or plants are softening the ruggedness of the men’s leather jacket.

Style the look with a neutral outfit, void of other prints, letting the flamboyant jacket be the focal feature.

Leather Biker Jackets

The leather perfecto – an asymmetrical, lancer fronted motorcycle jacket – roars along to a punk rock tune for a blend of biker and badass. Big on details – metallic hardware (made up of zips, buttons and press studs), as well as front pockets and shoulder lapels, the perfecto is designed to pack a sartorial punch (in the face) as an off-duty look.

All-black styling – with denim that’s ripped and a vintage-wash t-shirt – enhance the rocker rebellion, while plaid shirts give off a nineties vibe and inject some colour into an otherwise monochrome affair. Pair with boots (biker or Chelsea) or a creeper-sole Derby shoe for a sense of new-wave punk. Accessorise with metallic jewellery. Sneakers are also in but make sure they’re the low-key type (white is best) as opposed to the latest Yeezy’s.

Leather Jackets With Hoodies

Getting on the athleisure train doesn’t always mean windbreakers and shell jackets (and Lycra). The leather perfecto jacket is an essential outerwear piece, worn as a definitive luxury when teamed with sweats.

The hoodie – in soft cotton jersey and zip-through construction – tops-off the track suit over black track pants; cuffed at the hem and in slim-fit for comfortable street style. Opt for a leather duffle bag as fashionably functional accessory to tie in the jacket.

Finally, keep your feet neat with active sneakers or low-cut leather kicks. The former – when you’re actually heading to the gym, the latter – best for days out-and-about.

Varsity & Bomber Leather Jackets

Not everyone wants to look like they’re in a band or just hopped-off their Harley. Consider the preppy look, then. The varsity-inspired bomber is classic and collegiate, but with leather sleeves which add a bit of edge to your day.

When it’s not leather, it’s wool – ultra-warm and naturally luxurious. Black and navy are a subtle colour combination and keep the jacket minimal and chic.

Style the varsity jacket with slim blue jeans and charcoal knit, closing the top button for an open a-frame shape (and Italian sprezzatura). Grungy accessories make this feel less sports prep: fingerless gloves, black Wayfarers, and even a smart leather folio for functional style.

Minimalist Leather Jackets

Parisian men are in a league of their own when it comes to style. Simple, mais chic. In true minimalist design, the spread collar leather jacket (like a Harrington with a shirt-inspired collar) is a sleek outerwear option for day-to-night dressing. The jacket – with its collar’s nod to formalwear – looks best crafted in lightly textured leather (like calfskin). It should fit and sit like a piece of tailoring.

Stick to a dark palette – black and white – with a hint of grey or brown, to soften the monochrome. Play with knit layers or a crisp button-down shirt switching between slim-cut black jeans or a woollen trouser, depending on the temperature. Chelsea boots or leather lace-ups keep the Paris refinement.

Leather Jackets With Shirt & Tie

The leather jacket has a job to do in the modern office too. Stick to the uniform bomber for work (not the biker) and consider tan or brown suede instead of a polished black. Finally, avoid any embellishments and heavy padding, letting the weight and cut of the suede hug the shoulders.

All zippers and buttons should blend in and pockets kept to a minimum. Likewise, select a minimal collar and cuffs – nothing overly ribbed (this will look more collegiate than corporate).

Now, add a sharp shirt-and-tie combination and refrain from doing the jacket all the way up. Goodbye, stuffy work-look.

How To Wear A Leather Jacket FAQ

What should I wear with a leather jacket?

A classic look involving a leather jacket is to pair it with a plain white t-shirt and black jeans. However, because of its versatility, you can experiment pairing it with a variety of looks.

How should a leather jacket fit?

How your leather jacket fits is entirely down to you. We would always recommend opting for a slimmer fit, however, some men prefer an oversized, vintage look.

How To Wear Double Denim | Outfit Inspiration For Men
How To Wear Double Denim | Outfit Inspiration For Men

Still believe double denim is a fashion faux pas? Forget about it, mon ami.

With the evolution of men’s denim in full swing, we’ve finally worked out how to wear double denim, in way that looks good and gives your style a step up from those basic t-shirt-and-jeans troopers.

But before you go pull a full denim suit number on us like 2001 Justin Timberlake, there are some solid rules to follow. Double denim requires fashion friends when styling an outfit. And with the right mates – undershirts, belts and different shades of blue – you’ll be well on your way to nailing Canadian formalwear like a diehard denim dude.

Double Denim Rules

  • Don’t be dressed top to bottom in one shade of denim without a focal point in your styling (see tips below). Denim comes in an endless amount of washes, pick wisely.
  • Do look to black and coloured denim (grey, white, beige) as alternatives to blue denim. Perfect for those gents wanting the ruggedness of denim but without the matchy-blue look.
  • Do vary the denim weight between top and bottom, especially if the shades are close. Stick with heavier jeans and a lighter shirt or jacket, instead of the opposite.
  • Don’t overthink the fit. As a rule, the jacket should be fitted enough so you can do it up, but short enough that it rests on your hips, allow your shirt underneath to separate the two denim layers.
  • Do play with proportions. Three top options: a fitted jacket/fitted jeans, a boxy jacket/slim or fitted jeans, or fitted jacket/relaxed jeans.
  • Don’t get on the denim boiler suit/overalls/onesie bandwagon. Unless you’re a male model and your life is pretty much a runway.

How To Wear Double-Denim

Now you know the do’s and don’ts of double denim, we’ve found five fetching ways to wear all-over denim. Some are more classic while others are of-the-minute trends and are certainly worth experimenting with. Above all, be true to your style personality. There’s no room for error with double denim.

Double Denim Light & Shade

The most foolproof way to rock double denim? Vary the shade of indigo between top and bottom. When combining two different denim blues, go for a darker shade on the bottom and lighter on top. This always looks better, not the other way around. Other shading elements feature in the fabric, teaming lighter indigo pieces like linen denim shirts with selvedge vintage jeans, which are thicker and darker. Light and shade is the balance to aim for.

Double Denim Prints & Embellishments

Embellished doesn’t mean rhinestone studs and diamantes. More like patchwork, patches, logos and embroidery. And, it’s more than simply adding some personalisation to your favourite denim jacket (or stopping your jeans from falling apart), the embellishments give double-denim outfits a visual point of difference, especially when wearing matching denims. This look rocks with mid-blue, Japanese-inspired denim.

Black Double Denim

Black denim eschews the need to worry about looking too denim-y. First up, black double denim looks best in skinny fits. Think skinny jeans and a snug jacket, channelling that rock star mood. When going relaxed, black double denim works well in a vintage stonewash, or a dark charcoal, keeping the jeans darker in shade than the top. Suede boots or black sneakers are the footwear win, keeping your undershirt dark at night or light for the day.

Matching Double Denim

Matching your double denim is being adopted by gents looking for a super casual version of the traditional suit. Darker indigo shades are key here. Then, for the fit, ensure both your top and bottom halves are slim with your jacket cut sharp, much like a blazer. With only some of your jacket buttons fastened – never the top or bottom ones – this look needs a collared shirt and tie, the crisp duo peeking over the neck as the focal point of the outfit. Rugged boots or clean sneakers finish off this sartorial experiment.

White With Double Denim

Adding some white to your denim rotation gives another foolproof option for pulling off a double-denim look without having to worry about shades of blue melting into one another. And it’s not as heavy-handed in summer compared to black. Plus, it’s rather a rare denim choice, considering white jeans tend to fill most men with fear of food and wine stains.

But what about a white denim jacket? It’s less likely to get dirty when sitting down. And double-denim styling is easy. Pair with light blue jeans and brown lace-ups or summer sneakers, avoiding bright shirt layers, which tend to look a bit trash or preppy. Muted and sensitive is best.

Bulgari Gets Seriously Artistic With Their Geneva Watch Days 2022 Releases
Bulgari Gets Seriously Artistic With Their Geneva Watch Days 2022 Releases

The following article was produced in partnership with Bulgari.

2022 has been one of the most exciting years for watches in a very long time. Maybe it’s because, after two years of being forced into isolation (and therefore two years without the watch world’s biggest trade shows being held in person), watchmakers have wanted to come back with a bang… And Bulgari’s bang has been bigger than most.

The famous Italian luxury house, which has long been considered one of the leading forces in haute horlogerie, hasn’t held back when it’s come to exciting new releases this year. Bulgari kicked off the year in style at LVMH Watch Week in February, where they brought two extremely complex and opulent Octo Roma minute repeaters to the table, shocking and delighting watch fans.

Now, just in time for Geneva Watch Days 2022 – the world’s biggest watchmaking fair celebrating independent watchmakers – Bulgari has pulled the covers off a huge suite of rather radical, delightfully artistic takes on some of their most iconic watches; a total horological smorgasbord of delights.

We take a look at the most exciting Bulgari releases, which easily stand out as some of the most interesting watches of 2022 – high praise in what’s been an exceptionally competitive year of new watch releases.

Octo Finissimo Skeleton 8 Days

Check out the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Skeleton 8 Days (ref. 103667) above.

The most technically impressive watch of this suite of releases, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Skeleton 8 Days, as the name suggests, features an impressive new hand-wound manufacture movement, the extra-fine calibre BVL 199 SK, which has an exceptional 8-day (192-hour) power reserve.

Normally, a manual-wind watch with such a power reserve would be a rather chunky piece of kit… But remarkably, the Octo Finissimo Skeleton 8 Days is only 5.95mm thick – a testament to Bulgari’s expertise in ultra-thin timepieces.

It’s not just ultra-thin, but ultra-cool to look at, too. A fuel gauge-shaped power reserve indicator (like an exotic Italian car) cleverly wraps around the small seconds counter between 7 and 8 o’clock, while the large yet flat mainspring sits opposite at 1 o’clock, providing aesthetic symmetry. The italisied ‘eight days’ below the Bulgari logo also calls to mind high-tech racing machines.

The high-tech movement is contrasted by a classically luxurious 18ct rose gold case and a sumptuous alligator leather strap. Modern, architectural and highly wearable, it’s the perfect fusion of Italian design and Swiss watchmaking excellence.

Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition (ref. 103710).

Bulgari has long had an affinity for working with Japanese creatives, such as esteemed architect Tadao Ando, who they’ve collaborated with a number of zen garden-like Octo Finissimos, or musician and designer Hiroshi Fujiwara, whose Fragment Design lent its aesthetic to a Bulgari Bulgari limited edition.

Now, Bulgari has teamed up with another Japanese architect, Kazuyo Sejima, on another out-there limited edition Octo Finissimo – but where Ando’s watches have been an exercise in restraint and minimalism, Sejima’s is totally maximalist.

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition boasts a mirror-polished steel case, integrated bracelet and dial that’s quite unlike any other watch on the market – it’s extremely striking. But that’s not all. The watch’s crystal is inlayed with a matrix of metallised dots, which refract and play with light in a totally unique and mesmerising way.

At the same time, it’s strikingly minimalist, too, thanks to its almost featureless dial (aside from the small seconds counter, hovering out in the void). The term ‘statement piece’ gets thrown around a lot these days, but that’s exactly what this Bulgari beauty is…

Octo goes for gold

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT (ref. 103468) and the Octo Finissimo Automatic (ref. 103637), both in rose gold.

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo story has been one of the most impressive and dramatic in modern watchmaking. This stylish octagonal watch, since its introduction a decade ago, has been the subject of many world firsts in watchmaking, such as the world’s thinnest mechanical chronograph and the world’s thinnest minute repeater.

To celebrate 10 years of the Octo Finissimo, Bulgari has expanding the Octo Finissimo range with new variations in precious metal: the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT in rose gold, and the Octo Finissimo Automatic in both rose and yellow gold.

The former is a particular stand-out and looks simply sumptuous in rose gold. At only 3.3mm thick, this is one of the world’s thinnest chronographs. At first glance, it features a familiar tri-compax chronograph layout, but actually, the counter at 9 o’clock is actually a second time zone indicator; effectively a smaller watch within a watch.

Both the Octo Finissimo Automatic and the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT have handsome brown lacquered dials which work marvellously well with gold. It’s like Italian leather – they ooze with luxury.

Bulgari Aluminium Sorayama Special Edition

The Bulgari Aluminium Sorayama Special Edition (ref. 103703).

Our favourite release from Geneva Watch Days 2022 was this Bulgari Aluminium. Continuing the theme of collaborating with Japan’s best and brightest, this model (as you might have been able to guess) was produced in collaboration with Hajime Sorayama, an illustrator who is famous for his hyper-detailed, “superrealist” aesthetic and signature robot pin-up girls.

It’s no surprise that Sorayama, whose sumptuous chromed-out art celebrates the glamour and sensuality of cars and planes, chose the Bulgari Aluminium: a retro-futuristic, iconically 90s design. This collaborative watch features a perlage-covered dial that resembles fish scales, while also recalling the galvanised textures and details of pre-WWII cars and planes.

Specifically, Sorayama has said he was inspired by the surface of the Spirit of St. Louis, the plane in which Charles Lindbergh made the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight back in 1927. Another fun touch is that the only numeral on the dial is the 2, Sorayama’s lucky number.

Like the Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition, the Bulgari Aluminium Sorayama Special Edition is a clever and considered take on a modern horological icon that perfectly pays tribute to each artist’s vision while highlighting the versatility and timelessness of Bulgari’s designs.

The Bear Review: The Best Show On TV Right Now?
The Bear Review: The Best Show On TV Right Now?

A recent TV show addition to Disney Plus in Australia has been receiving critical acclaim across the globe, and for very good reason. I’ve already watched all eight episodes of The Bear and encourage every single one of you to watch it too.

The Bear is a new comedy-drama TV show on Disney Plus Australia that stars Jeremy Allen White (who some of you may know from the American remake of Shameless) as an extremely talented chef who leaves his post as head chef of “the best restaurant in the world,” to move back to his home in Chicago, to run his brother’s beef sandwich shop, after his brother – Mikey – commits suicide.

RELATED: 18 Best Shows On Disney Plus Australia

The premise alone is enough to whet your appetite. Just how will a chef who expects nothing but the best, and who works with a team that is talented and disciplined, cope in a much less financially stable kitchen, with staff who can only be described as unruly?

WATCH: To give you a taste of the action, you can watch the trailer for The Bear below.

From the get go, The Bear emphasises just how much of a change of scenery Jeremy’s character Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto is in for, with a lot of shouting and many fights. These usually occur between Carmy and “Richie” Jermiovich, who the two refer to each other as cousin. Richie says in one episode, however, “he’s not my cousin.” I’m still not sure what the situation is between them, to be honest.

Regardless, The Bear follows these two, along with optimistic and budding young female chef, Sydney, who wants to implement changes to the restaurant to help turn it into a profitable business…much to Richie’s dismay.

Mikey’s suicide is prevalent throughout the series, and the effect it has clearly taken on Carmy and his sister, Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto. Carmy expresses how he truly does feel about the whole ordeal in an incredibly moving 7-minute monologue during an Al-Anon meeting in the season finale. Show creator Christopher Storer shot this scene in one take, which draws the audience in to such a great degree that it really does make you feel as though you’re sitting in the room with him.

The brother and sister duo also like to get into arguments, even asking each other when they’re looking through financial records, “do you want to fight now?” Mikey does make an appearance midway through the show, and The Walking Dead fans will be surprised to see who was cast to portray the former shop owner.

Episode 7 is a particular highlight (don’t worry, I won’t give away any spoilers) purely for the fact that the entire 18-minute episode was shot in just one take. Speaking to Consequence, Storer says they attempted the episode five times, and ultimately used the fourth one, but added, “honestly, we could have used the first one.”

There are only eight episodes for now, but The Bear has already been renewed for a second season, and I’m not surprised. I’m rarely someone who gets deeply engrossed in a TV show or movie. Yes, I’ve seen some of the ‘big shows,’ such as Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, but neither of those had me smashing the ‘play next episode’ button with as much anticipation and eagerness as The Bear did. Count me as one of the show’s biggest fans.

I can’t really think of another show I’ve seen that could be compared to The Bear, although purely from the perspective of how the characters try to out-muscle each other in verbal arguments, I would liken it to It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. The effect is less comedic in The Bear, however, as the performances of the cast are so convincing, you have to wonder if they actually do like each other when the cameras stop rolling.

As for films, however, you could compare The Bear to Whiplash, in that in the film, Miles Teller’s character is often scared to stand up to J.K. Simmons, and the stress and grief the latter causes Teller’s character is akin to the effect Carmy’s outbursts can have on his staff. But, since he’s used to working in a high-end restaurant and demanding only the very best, coupled with the constant reminder of his brother’s passing, Carmy’s behaviour can at least be somewhat justified.

So, what The Bear does so, is perfectly encapsulate what a toxic work environment can look like. Nobody listens to each other, everyone believes they’re right and hell, there’s even a stabbing!

What I also loved about the show, is how the creators were able to fit in so much drama into such short episodes. The longest is the season finale at 48-minutes (including credits), but most episodes fall short of the coveted half an hour (again, including credits). The short runtime makes the show easily watchable, and so I was able to smash out 7 episodes in one sitting. I would’ve moved to the eighth, but a friend called me for a catch-up, c’est la vie.

I implore everybody to watch The Bear. It’s witty, it’s packed full of drama and it does have its funny moments. But ultimately, you feel connected with the characters from the very start, and you want to see the restaurant succeed. As for whether it does? Well, you’ll just have to watch and find out.

Where to watch The Bear in Australia

The Bear is available to watch in Australia exclusively on Disney Plus. Subscriptions for the streaming service are either $11.99/month or $119.99/year. There is no free trial available, but you can cancel at any time.

But what else is there to Kyrigos than his outfits and outrages? Read on to learn more about the Aussie prodigy.

Nick Kyrgios quick facts

Who is Nick Kyrgios?

Nick Kyrgios is an Australian tennis player whose raw personality and behaviour on and off the court have made him one of the most widely talked about tennis players at the moment. Though he hasn’t won any grand slam titles (yet), he’s still one of the most talented tennis players on the circuit.

Nick Kyrgios Career

Nick Kyrgios started playing tennis at six years old. He also played basketball when he was younger but decided to focus solely on tennis when he was 14.

He was a junior world number 1 and the junior Australian Open winner in 2013, beating his doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis in the final.

Nick Kyrgios started to gain traction after beating Rafael Nadal during Wimbledon in 2014. Nadal was ranked number 1 at the time, and Kyrgios was ranked 144th, aged just 19. Kyrgios’ win marked the first time a male player ranked outside the top 100 had beaten a no. 1 seed in a Grand Slam event since 1992. It was also the first time a teenager defeated a no. 1 at a Grand Slam since Nadal himself did it to Roger Federer in 2005.

Kyrgios is only the third player to have beaten all of the Big Three (Novak Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal) the first time he played each of them.

Despite his talent, Kygrios has stated that he “does not love tennis”. After exiting the 2017 US Open, he openly said he was “not dedicated to the game at all” and that “There are players out there that are more dedicated, that want to get better, that strive to get better every day, the one-percenters. I’m not that guy.”

Surprisingly, Nick Kyrgios has trained without a full-time coach throughout his professional career; however, he has previously worked with former tennis player Sébastien Grosjean.

Kyrios has currently won six ATP titles and has reached eight ATP finals, including the 2017 Cincinnati Masters.

Wimbledon 2022

Nick Kyrgios produced a sublime display of tennis talent during Wimbledon 2022, as he made his way all the way through to the final where he was drawn against Novak Djokovic. Some may say he had an easy route, since semi-final opponent Rafael Nadal withdrew from the competition.

Kyrgios lost out to his opponent 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7 (7) – 6 (3). Nick still took home £1,050,000/AU $1,848,443.51 in prize money, for finishing as runner-up.

US Open 2022

Nick Kyrgios is currently competing in the 2022 US Open and is already through to the third round. He beat fellow Australian (and doubles partner) Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round 6-3, 6-4, 7 (7) – 6 (4), and brushed off French tennis player Benjamin Bonzi in the second round 7 (7) – 6 (3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Nick Kyrgios Girlfriend & Family

Nick Kyrgios’ father, Giorgos, is a painter originally from Greece, while his mother, Norlaila, is a retired computer engineer who belongs to the Selangor royal family of Malaysia.

His brother Christos is a lawyer, and his sister, Halimah, is an actress/voice and performance coach and appeared on The Voice Australia in 2021.

Kyrgios is currently dating home décor blogger Costeen Hatzi, whom he met on Instagram after buying a mirror from her business Casa Amor Interiors.

Nick Kyrgios Controversies

Nick Kyrgios’ controversies spread far and wide and have been well documented in the media, from being accused of tanking several times to instances of verbal abuse on the court (once insinuating that his rival Stan Wawrinka’s girlfriend had had an affair with Kokkinakis) and being accused of un-sportsman-like behaviour after spitting on the court/towards the crowd, smashing tennis rackets and breaking dress code rules.

He also occasionally engages in off-court spats with other tennis players, such as Bernard Tomic.

Through all this, he has managed to receive more fines for his on-court behaviour than any other player in ATP history.

However, his most recent controversy was off the court after it was announced he was being summoned to appear in court to face a charge of common assault – allegedly for grabbing ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari in December 2021.

Nick Kyrgios Net Worth

Nick Kyrgios’s current net worth is estimated at around $15m, according to The Tennis Time.

Throughout his career, he has earned approximate US $11,823,860 in prize money, $2,417,829 of which has come in 2022 alone. His winnings from Wimbledon have certainly helped his bank account.

He also has a number of sponsorship deals that boost his net worth. These deals include agreements with companies like Nike, Beats, Bonds (though they distanced themselves after some controversies) and Yonex.

Nick Kyrgios Tattoos

Nick Kyrgios has a number of tattoos on his body. One of Nick’s most prominent tattoos is a sleeve on his right arm that expresses his love for basketball and features portraits of LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, which also has text that reads “Kobe and the King with me forever & some Jordan 1s,” along with “GOAT” under the image of Bryant.

Nick also has some text on his left leg that reads “give a man a mask and he will become his true self,” a quote that is said by Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight.

Another tattoo dedicated to his fianceé Costeen can be found on his leg, which simply shows her name.

Chris Hemsworth’s 8-Year-Old Son Hits Milestone Most Surfers Will Never Achieve
Chris Hemsworth’s 8-Year-Old Son Hits Milestone Most Surfers Will Never Achieve

Chris Hemsworth’s 8 year old son just got pitted for the first time ever, at Surf Lakes’ wave pool in Yeppoon. In doing so he unlocked a feat that many surfers never achieve throughout their entire surfing lives – getting barrelled.

Chris Hemsworth’s son just got like, so shacked. That’s right, an eight year old just clocked up more barrel time than many self respecting surfers have had all year, all thanks to the magic of Surf Lakes, a wave pool way up north.

“My 8-year-olds first ever tube! Something he and I are gonna remember for ever! Amazing to see him attack it again and again and finally it all line up! massive thanks to @dingomorrison for pushing him in!

Chris Hemsworth

WATCH: Chris Hemsworth’s son gets barrelled for the first time ever (video credit: @juzmac)

The clip drew praise from the likes of Laura Enever, Owen Wright, Kai Lenny, Otis Carey, Conor O’Leary and Ryan Hipwood.

O’Leary even went so far as to say: “His setup to the tube looks like his done it a million times before.”

Chris looked to have got a few tubes of his own too, with images on photographer Elke Mai’s Instagram page showing both Hemsworth and Occy tearing it up.

Surf Lakes is located in Yeppoon, which is a coastal town in Livingston – a 7 hour drive north of Noosa. It calls itself the biggest break in surf park innovation, boasting more waves (“over 2,000 rides per hour”) less wait time (“up to 200 surfers at a time”), the highest waves (over 2.4 metre wave face height) and the fact that it’s always offshore (on one of its sides) over other wave park competitors.

Though getting barrelled on a man-made wave, for most of us, probably doesn’t compare to getting barrelled on a natural wave, the point remains: when did you last see the inside of a proper tube? If you’re finding it hard to remember, or have never actually come out of a proper barrel, you might be among the majority of people who have ever picked up a surfboard worldwide, who have never actually been barrelled and have now been pipped to the post by an 8-year-old boy.

Leonardo DiCaprio Wastes No Time, Finds 22 Year Old Replacement
Leonardo DiCaprio Wastes No Time, Finds 22 Year Old Replacement

It looks like Leonardo DiCaprio may have already moved on from Camila Morrone with a young Ukrainian model…

Yesterday, news broke that Leonardo DiCaprio, the Hollywood actor who has somehow only won one Academy Award, and model Camila Morrone had broken up after four years of dating.

Of course, many were quick to jokingly suggest that DiCaprio must’ve dumped Morrone because she’s now 25 years old – DMARGE did a deep dive into DiCaprio’s dating history and indeed, Leo, who is 47-years-old hasn’t dated anyone over the age of 25.

But, given the question “who is Leonardo DiCaprio dating?” will always be a regular search term, it looks like Leo wants to give his public an answer. And so, he clearly isn’t concerned about the multiple people poking fun at his dating habits and has now, in fact, been spotted “partying” with 22-year-old model Maria Beregova – at least, according to The Daily Mail.

DiCaprio is on the far right in the blue shirt and Beregova is on the far left in the black dress. This photo was taken as DiCaprio and Beregova allegedly boarded the same yacht. Image Credit: The Daily Mail/Spread Pictures/MEGA

Photos that were taken back in July of this year have suddenly emerged following the announcement of DiCaprio and Morrone’s split and the images show Leonardo DiCaprio and Maria Beregova allegedly boarding a luxury yacht together in St Tropez.

Reportedly, DiCaprio and Morrone ended their relationship long before it was made public knowledge yesterday, so Leo may have been single when he and Maria Beregova were partying on the yacht together.

Although, other celebrities and friends of DiCaprio were spotted at the same yacht party so DiCaprio and Beregova may just be friends… Watch this space.

Who is Maria Beregova?

According to The Daily Mail, Beregova – who’s just 22 years old – is a Ukrainian model who currently lives in London and is studying to take over her family’s pharmaceutical company.

Beregova was married to Ahmed Masoud Abdelhafid, head of a property and fashion empire in Monaco and grandson of Massoud Abdelhafid – Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi’s ‘right hand man’. But Beregova has seemingly split from Abdelhafid, as she reverted all her social media accounts back to her maiden name just before she was in St Tropez with DiCaprio.

Obviously, there’s no confirmation yet on whether DiCaprio and Beregova are dating, friends or just acquaintances who boarded the same yacht in St Tropez. But if Beregova does want to date DiCaprio she better make her move quick as she’ll be 25 in just three years… We kid, we kid!

Who Is Salt Bae?

Salt Bae – real name Nusret Gökçe – is a butcher, chef, restraunteur and “food entertainer,” from Turkey. He was born in the city of Erzurum in 1983 and went to school like any normal kid. However, his family didn’t earn much money (his father was a mineworker) and so aged around 11 or 12, Salt Bae left school and started up as a butcher’s apprentice in the district of Kadıköy in Istanbul.

Salt Bae quickly found a passion for all things meat cutting and cooking and spent his later years – between 2007 – 2010 – travelling around the likes of Argentina and the United States, working in various restaurants for free to get experience in the restaurant business. He took this experience and opened his own restaurant in Istabnul in 2010.

Salt Bae Restaurants

Salt Bae’s restaurant chain is called Nusr-Et, and now has some 20 venues around the globe. There are six restaurants in Istanbul; one each in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar and Saudi Arabia; one in Knightsbridge, London, one in Mykonos and five in the USA: Los Angeles, Texas, Boston, New York and Miami.

Salt Bae’s restaurants have come under fire, however, from disgruntled guests. Some have complained the quality of the food isn’t all that great, while others have criticised the prices at Salt Bae restuarants for being far too extortionate, especially for what you get in return. In case you weren’t aware of the high prices at Salt Bae’s restaurant, we should point out that a bottle of wine at the London restaurant cost diners £10,000, and a total bill of £37,000.

But, for a once in a lifetime dining experience, Salt Bae’s steak restaurants have been heralded. If you’re lucky, the salt-sprinkling maestro will be in attendace, making the draining of your bank balance that little bit extra special.

Salt Bae Wife & Family

Image: @nusr_et

For all his showmanship, Salt Bae appears to live a relatively private life, as not much is known about his wife or family. He has previously posted a photo to his Instagram account that shows him surrounded by 12 children and a woman. The caption simply reads “My family,” but it’s not clear if the entire clan of children are all his, or potentially nieces and nephews. It’s also not clear if the woman in the image is his wife.

He rarely responds to questions about his family either, but considering Salt Bae himself is one of five children, it could well be that he’s always wanted a big family for himself.

Salt Bae Net Worth

Thanks to the high prices he charges in his restaurants, Salt Bae has amassed an estimated net worth of $70 million. Not bad for a kid who dropped out of school to become a butcher. It’s believed he pays himself an estimated annual salary of $20 million.

Salt Bae Fitness

When he isn’t sprinkling salt on steaks or posing for the cameras, Salt Bae can usually be found performing some form of workout to keep his body in prime state. Salt Bae’s workouts range from then intuitive to the brutal, but they all serve to help him keep his body fat percentage as low as possible.

He also, unsurprisingly, appears to follow a carnivore diet, although he has also admitted to having just a couple of glasses of water and some apricots before completing his first workout of the day, to help keep his body shredded.

Gym Junkies’ Favourite Supplement Surprisingly Effective At Fighting Depression
Gym Junkies’ Favourite Supplement Surprisingly Effective At Fighting Depression

Creatine is a molecule found naturally in muscle cells, and so most people will know it for its association with the fitness industry, with gym bros around the world taking it in supplement form to help them build their muscle size and strength. But, some studies have found that creatine has other benefits, which could include reducing depression.

Brought to our attention by Andrew Huberman, an American neuroscientist and associate professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine, during an episode of his Huberman Lab podcast, creatine has been studied for its effects in reducing depression.

Andrew begins the podcast by saying he’s only referring to major depression and not bipolar depression. The two are different, and you would have likely heard of the latter due to its relation to bipolar disorder, which is categorised by highs and lows in mood.

Major depression, conversely, is also known as unipolar disorder, because it only has severe lows. During the podcast, Andrew discusses various signs and causes of depression, which makes for incredibly interesting listening, but it was a section focusing on creatine and its potential role in improving mood, that caught our attention.

Andrew admits that creatine has found popularity with those who do resistance and/or endurance training because, as a supplement, creatine “draws more water into muscles and can increase power output from the muscles.”

After promoting its proven effects for gym bros, Andrew explains there is also a phosphocreatine system in the brain. He explains this system, “has everything to do with the dialogue between neurone and other cells types called glia.” Andrew goes on to say that phosphocreatine system at the front of the brain in particular has been shown to be involved with “mood regulation and some of the rewards pathways, as well as in depression.”

He adds there are at least 3 studies that suggest creatine “can also be used as a way to increase mood and to improve the symptoms of major depression.”

Elaborating further, Andrew says that studies have found that “increasing the activity of the phosphocreatine system in the brain can be beneficial, or is at least correlated with improvements in mood.”

Referencing a 2012 study conducted by the American Journal of Psychiatry, Andrew goes on to say it found “creatine supplementation seems to either lower the required dose of SSRI required to treat depression, or it can improve the effectiveness of a given dose of SSRI.”

One other review Andrew makes reference to has been published in the National Library of Medicine. This study highlights the fact that conventional antidepressant medication, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) aren’t always effective, “roughly 53% of persons with depression fail to respond to an initial trial of these medications,” it claims.

This review profiles a wealth of information, referencing other studies that looked at the effects of creatine supplementation in rats with depression. But, ultimately, Andrew explains that creatine supplementation has been found to kickstart a chain reaction in the brain.

Specifically, creatine supplementation can increase the activity of the phosphocreatine system in the front of the brain, and this then can “relate to changes in the way the NMDA receptor functions and may lead to some of the changes in neural circuits that underly the shift from negative mood to positive mood.”

NMDA receptors are receptors in the brain that only activate when presented with strong stimulus, such as an experience or a drug. They don’t participate in the everyday function of the brain, but they are “a key node in shifting brain circuitry.”

So, while Andrew admits more in-depth research is needed to prove this suggestion, it could well prove that creatine will no longer be a supplement reserved solely for gym junkies, but it could be used as a far more cost-effective and accessible way to treat people with depression.
