Life is full of painful truths, few of which sting as badly as pissing away your money on detox tea, only to realise it was all a smoke-and-bikini hoax.
Such is Instagram.
But before you write ‘detoxing’ off entirely, it’s not just laxative-spruiking models who believe in it – nutrition coach Max Lugavere says ‘detoxing’ is a real and important phenomenon too.
The difference is, Max doesn’t believe you need to skull litres of amphetamine-ridden Chai to rid yourself of nasties, he believes it is a much smarter option to just support your liver in doing its job.
As he puts it, “Who needs fancy and expensive detox programs when you have some powerful science-based diet and lifestyle tactics?” Writing on Instagram, the author, podcast host, New York Times journalist and nutrition coach recently posted an image that illustrates how to do this.

“There’s a lot of confusion around ‘detoxing,’ with some on the ‘evidence-based’ side saying ‘there’s no such thing as detoxing,’ and those on the marketing, product side saying, ‘detox! detox! detox!’ usually accompanied by a ‘… for only $29.99′” Max wrote underneath the graphic.
“The TRUTH is that ‘detoxing’ is indeed a thing,” he continued. “One of your liver’s main jobs is to detox against compounds that would otherwise cause harm. But even though it seemingly functions autonomously, it can still use your support!”
“If we live in a healthy way, and supply our bodies with the precursors to our own detox compounds, while stimulating them with healthful foods such as cruciferous vegetables which provide compounds such as cyanohydroxybutene which has been shown to dramatically increase liver glutathione production, we may win the war against aging and disease!” the post caption concluded.
In other words, your mum was right all along: avoid the expensive green tea, and eat your damn greens…

Supremely cool and talented French actor, Vincent Cassel stepped out for the Irreversible photocall on Saturday afternoon (August 31) at the Sala Grande at the 76th Venice Film Festival. Known more commonly for his roles in Ocean’s 12, Jason Bourne and Black Swan, the French actor reprises his role as Monica Belluci’s lover in a recut of the 2002 film.
Vicent hit the photocall in the most heat-friendly outfit worthy of a day on a yacht in the Mediterranean. The combination of a white open neck linen shirt, relaxed bone coloured linen trousers and easy access brown slip-on sneakers. Combined with his gentlemanly good looks and that trademark smile, it made for a welcome break from the tuxedos and pomp of the festival.
However, the real star of the show was his yellow wayfarer style Tom Ford FT0500 Andrew sunglasses. Which are available online here for AU$240 ($160USD).

Here are all the reasons the French are (stereotypically) known as the world’s best lovers.
Curvaceous buildings. Plunging dresses. Candlelit restaurants. Old World art. Welcome to Paris: a city synonymous with love and lust.
This in mind, it’s no surprise the French have been voted the world’s best lovers. And although most cliches tend to be contemptible, in this case, there’s some truth to it.
So here you go: here are all the reasons the French are (known for) being better lovers than Australians, along with some tips (from French dating coach Adeline Breon) on how you can steal some of their skills.
They are expert kissers
While Australians consider ‘pashing’ something to leave behind in your teens, the French have no qualms about getting their suckerfish on all throughout their adult life.
Hence the term: French kissing.
So: next time you want to invoke some Gallic passion in the bedroom; take your time, kiss, and – for the love of god – make sure you quaff a mint beforehand.
Sex is not a dirty word
As the Mirror reports, “Unlike for us Brits, it’s perfectly acceptable in France to have sex on the first date,” and “experts insist there are no moral hang-ups around sex for the French.”
In the same way, in Australia, if you want to try The French Way; try opening your mind to the possibility that: “It’s more than possible to have sex on the first date and even go on to marry – there is no judgement.”
They live in a romantic setting
While both countries have their industrial areas, in terms of general ambience, France is ~blessed~ with more art, history and culture than you can throw a wine-soaked baguette at.
From proposal-rich Paris to quaint La Rochelle, it’s fair to say that living in a place with sexy vibes can only be positive for one’s flair.
The fix for Aussies? Bring France to you. Light some candles. Buy a projector with a screensaver of the (old) Notre Dame. Play some Louise Attaque. The possibilities are endless.
They make your relationship (whatever it is) feel unique
As French dating coach Adeline Breon told DMARGE, “In France, there’s no such thing as casual dating. So if you’ve been on a few dates with someone you like: Congrats! They probably like you too.”
However, this has a flip side: if you thought you’d been having casual sex with someone, it might not be as “no strings” as you thought. As Adeline told us, “The biggest difference (between countries like Australia and France) is that “in France we don’t have this ‘casual dating period’ before any serious relationship, where it’s basically ok to date several people at the same time—and to keep your options open while you try things out with one or several people.”
“In the French culture, we only date one person at a time from day one, so we’re exclusive right away.”
The takeaway? Make your date feel special (or at least don’t check Tinder midway through dinner).
They don’t obsess over labels
Adeline also told us, “We don’t have ‘the talk’ [in France] like they do in the US [or Australia] to decide if we’re exclusive or not” (because if you’re dating it’s assumed you are).
The takeaway? Stop asking your dates, “What are we?”, allow the mystique to flourish, and show you know how to read the “circumstances” of your relationship.
They are confident in the bedroom, and they communicate
This means that, in France, “When it’s going to be super casual, things usually happen very fast—or they don’t happen at all,” Adeline told us. And while every relationship – in any country – beats to its own drum, this confidence in one’s sexuality and ability to communicate to your partner what you want is invaluable.
Getting naked is not as big of a deal
As we wrote earlier this month, the quickest way to spot an Australian tourist in Europe is by their tan line. This isn’t something the French worry about: both men and women are happy to go topless when they’re sunbathing and no one cares.
This relaxed attitude has another benefit; the French don’t expect their sexual partners to look perfect. Embrace this, and your next hook up could be much less stressful (and a lot more fun).

Every traveller dreams of flirting their way to a business class upgrade. But that’s not how it works anymore. These days, when cattle-class is overbooked and there’s a spare lie-flat seat, it will be offered to loyal economy flyers when they check-in online.
So far so reasonable.
The problem is, even though the old system of check-in attendants upgrading passengers based on their social sensibility (and dress sense) was ‘classist’, its removal has left us with a worse problem: economy passengers travelling in business who don’t deserve to be there.
Now, don’t get me wrong: I love barefoot beer-swilling, I (occasionally) pick my nose and – once – I even asked a fellow passenger to take a ‘basic bro’ photo as I posed in my Qantas pajamas.
In other words: I am not here to condemn degenerate behaviour. In fact, as we reported earlier this year, Pointy End passengers are just as (if not more) guilty of this than anyone.
However, as the following Tripadvisor flight reviews reveal, not everyone who gets upgraded in this new era of “loyalty rewarding” deserves it. Worse: these business class newbies are putting an avalanche of misinformation online.
Why? Well, coming from economy, many upgraded passengers see business class as a Whole New World. What they don’t realise, however, is that although The Pointy End is an adult playpen of ergonomic delight, it’s still subject to flight delays, excess baggage charges, crying children, disruptive passengers and even (in rare cases) salmonella.
Barring food poisoning – none of that is the airlines’ fault. But of course, reading the reviews, that is not the impression one gets.

In fact – from Qatar to Qantas to Etihad to British Airways – Tripadvisor is full of unwarranted one-star reviews – making it increasingly hard for paying customers to weigh up their options.
From the above review, which bemoans a missed connection (which reflects badly on the airline but not, as the customer suggests, the QSuite), to rants further down the page, nue age business class passengers appear to have expectations beyond what any cabin – premium or not – can provide.
Not only that; some copy and paste the same negative review across multiple websites (from Tripadvisor to Trustpilot), proliferating Fake News to even more frustrating levels. Our favourite? The man who believes he was “mis-sold” his upgrade.

“Shame on you Qatar – more lost passengers. Enjoy the CHF 400 you conned out of me – it will be the last time,” the review finished.
Unfortunately for the rest of us, this wasn’t the last time someone wrote a dodgy business class review. In fact, the angst just keeps pouring in, with (presumably) The Recently Upgraded holding airlines accountable for everything from other passengers…
… to their codeshare partners.
