Zac Efron Has Perfected The Sleazy 80s Popstar Look & You Should Be Afraid
Zac Efron Has Perfected The Sleazy 80s Popstar Look & You Should Be Afraid

Zac Efron has been somewhat of a chameleon in recent years. Since bulking up for Baywatch the 31-year-old American actor moved onto dreads before resurfacing from hiatus onto his current look. And what is this current look? An odd amalgamation of a pretty boy with a dash of sexed-up 80s pop star.

In his latest sighting Efron combined his bleached blonde hair and darker facial hair features with a fitted teal suit and brown lace-ups. The tie itself is a talking point with cats floating around in space through tropical colours. We have no idea what aesthetic Efron is trying to nail here but we can agree that it suits the his choice of grooming.

Teal was probably the right choice if he was going for eye colour pairing. Also note the absence of a watch, pocket square and tie bar. It’s a more basic suiting look which works well for Efron’s laid back demeanour.

And if you needed proof that Efron has gone full 80s popstar, here it is. Justin Timberlake championed the look for The Lonely Island years ago. The only difference? That was a joke.

Economy Passengers Can Now Get A Helicopter Transfer On This Airline
Economy Passengers Can Now Get A Helicopter Transfer On This Airline

You flash the cash, secure the ticket, and then book the… helicopter transfer? While most of us take an Uber to and from the airport, it turns out savvy Australian flyers, when travelling to the US, can skip just about every queue in Los Angeles and New York, thanks to an inspired, apache-shaped idea of American Airlines.

Various airlines offer chauffeur services to and from the airport. However, usually, these come with wheels. Fortunately for those with a penchant for whirly-birds and an aversion of playing automobile Tetris on slow mode, there is now a way to circumvent LA traffic—if you have the cash to burn.

And—as Fast Company reports, “In an egalitarian twist, this luxury service is available to all American Airlines passengers, regardless of cabin.” That is—again—if they have the cash to burn.

“You could have pampered treatment from Wall Street all the way to a middle seat, in the back of coach, between two screaming babies, next to the restroom,” (Fast Company).

This comes as American Airlines expand their ‘Five Star Service’, which includes access to a boutique terminal called The Private Suite, a Cadillac escort to your gate, and your own dedicated security officer enabling you to clear security (if you’re leaving) or customs (if you’re arriving) in under 5 minutes, to include a helicopter transfer as an optional add on.

To achieve this, American Airlines have partnered with Blade, a helicopter company, to run these ‘flying’ transfers between LAX and JFK airports and their respective city centres.

Rob Wiesenthal, founder and CEO of Blade, explains the benefit as such: “The number one pain point of travelling from New York City and Los Angeles to the airports is traffic… Our Blade airport transfer product turns an hour-and-a-half drive into a helicopter flight that’s five to seven minutes.”

And the silver service doesn’t end there—departing passengers will be picked up from the helicopter in a Cadillac, before being transferred to United Airlines’ flagship check-in desk, while arrivals will be escorted to baggage claim and then driven to their waiting chopper in a Cadillac.

However, as the Australian Business Traveller points out, “The partnership between the American Airlines and Blade isn’t quite seamless yet—you still need to order the helicopter transfer separately through Blade’s own app or website.”

While technically this service is open to all passengers, we’d bet it will be mostly used by those in First, with the start price, for a one way private charter between LAX and downtown LA, coming in at A$2,140, for up to 6 people (plus an extra A$490 each way to get American Airlines’ Five Star Service in the airport itself).

Oh and, as a side note, getting from LAX to JFK can be done by chartering one of Blade’s private Midsize Jets, which will set you back a cool $40,331… However, for business travellers wanting a little taste of luxury, without sending your company bankrupt, American Airlines’ existing Five Star service is still a good choice.

As the Australian Business Traveller reports, “The base-level Five Star Service starts at US$350 ($490) for the first passenger and includes Flagship First check-in, an escort through the airport, Admirals Club access and Cadillac transfers where a Blade helicopter is chartered.”

Oh and for US$650 (A$910), you can nab those same benefits, plus access to the Flagship First Dining lounge in Los Angeles, New York JFK, Miami, Chicago and Dallas Fort Worth when it opens later this year.

Jeans Will Instantly Give Your Look A Timeless Cool; Here’s How To Wear Them
Jeans Will Instantly Give Your Look A Timeless Cool; Here’s How To Wear Them

Ah denim, where would the world’s wardrobes be without you. The very first pair of jeans was created in Nevada in 1873 as rivet-reinforced pants. Since then denim has been launched into the stratosphere of contemporary fashion thanks to its unique wear characteristics and durability. History lessons are cool and all but do you know what’s cooler? Learning the sharpest ways to rock your denim. In today’s style lesson we’re running you through the intricacies of men’s denim from the fits to the combos to best pair them with.

Selvedge Denim

Selvedge denim is the reinforced version of unwashed or raw denim which gives off clean natural edges that don’t fray. It’s slightly different to raw denim in that selvedge refers to the outer edge of the fabric whilst raw denim is the overall characteristics of the material finish. It’s also a more expensive cut due to these properties and is often identified with red stitching on the weft (inner hem). There’s a host of combos to pair raw denim with from denim jackets to tees to collared shirts to suits.

Slim Jeans

Most men opt for this cut in denim simply because of its balance between fit and comfort. Those who are new to the denim game should start here and go skinnier or looser based on the feel. Slim jeans have the advantage of following the contour of your legs to form a nice silhouette without strangling your lower half. This nice fit means that slim jeans can be worn with everything from fitted tees to collared shirts and casual suits. Men with bigger legs may find that slim jeans are tighter around their calves or thighs. If this is the case, you can simply go up a size – just make sure to adjust the hem and length accordingly. These are also popular nowadays so finding a pair of cheap jeans in slim cut shouldn’t be too hard.

Skinny Jeans

The next denim cut on the ladder is the popular skinny fit. Standard skinny jeans are cut close to the legs but with a bit of tolerance (think loose fitting tights). The advantages of skinny jeans is that they can make you look taller thanks to its tapered finish from the top to the bottom. They are best suited to slimmer guys as those with a larger frame will have the unsightly issue of the jeans wrapping around too tight. Given the more tailored look of skinny jeans, they are the preferred choice for more smart casual looks. Think skinny jean combos with knitwear, collared shirts and casual blazers and ties. Of course they can also work with more casual pieces like a simple tee and bomber jacket.

Super Skinny Jeans

Super skinny jeans are not for the faint of heart and are designed to stick to your legs like paint. Consisting of a higher elastane blend to cotton, super skinny jeans are best suited to those who are tall and slim. Large or bulkier framed men should avoid these for the same reason as skinny jeans – the proportions just won’t look right on you. If you are after rock star status though, you’ll need to pair super skinny jeans with tops that are more casual in nature – do not wear these with a suit or in smart casual situations. The best combos that work here are button-up shirts, white tees and chelsea boots. You can also play around with top patterns but remember to keep it casual.

Straight Jeans

As the name suggests, straight jeans are regular cut meaning the trouser leg falls straight from the knee to the hem. The fit and leg openings are usually looser, too, so what you’ll find is that the diameter at your thighs, knees, calf and ankles remain the same. There are plenty of brands out there that identify themselves with this fit so you’ll often find unique detailing through rivets or the fly arrangement. The best combinations for straight jeans are usually looser fitting layers. You don’t want to go too fitted at the top unless you want to look like a tube of six-week-old toothpaste. Double denim works best here with either denim shirts, layered denim jackets or knitted field jackets. Even looser sweaters will work a treat with straight jeans. The secret here is consistency in fit to ensure the top matches the bottom.

Man With A Micro-Penis Reveals What’s Really Important In A Relationship
Man With A Micro-Penis Reveals What’s Really Important In A Relationship

Relationships all require a little give and take. But what’s a man to do when he is… ahem… “short staffed”? Work harder? Improvise? Be honest about his insecurities? How ’bout: “hide it for as long as possible, then sue his wife for (anonymously) asking an internet forum for advice, thus bringing himself even more attention?”

That is the situation one unfortunate, vindictive (and rather short-sighted) newlywed husband recently found himself in, unwittingly proving what’s really important in a relationship in the progress. But before we get into all that: what exactly happened?

As the man’s short-suffering wife explains on Reddit, “(My) newlywed husband (32M) wanted to wait until marriage for sex and just surprised me (27F) with a micropenis on the honeymoon.”

“We only dated for six months… (were) engaged for another six and just got married on Saturday. I literally just got back from my honeymoon a couple hours ago. My husband isn’t a religious guy, he just says he is ‘old fashioned’… We got close to fooling around a couple times… but he always stopped after it went ‘too far’.”

“Am I the asshole for being upset that I waited until my wedding night to find out that he probably isn’t as ‘old fashioned’ as he says he is?”, the wife continued; “I’m not going to shame him and honestly I don’t even know how I’ll broach the topic… I just acted like nothing was out of the ordinary and went to town with him, but…I dunno… This was unexpected, to say the least.”

“I kind of feel lied to. Like a halftruth…or something was intentionally withheld from me.”

While some Redditors asked her what she expected, marrying someone she had only known for a year (“if size was important to you should have snuck a peek”), others were more sympathetic: “I think this goes beyond size being important. Most women are happy with their man’s peen even if it’s below average is size. She probably didn’t even consider the possibility…”

And—of course—there were a few jabs of humour in the mix too: “Definitely seems dishonest to lie about such a little thing.” But then, just days later, reports started coming out of a “husband threatening to sue after wife tells internet he has a micropenis.”

Sound familiar? Damn right it does, because guess what? Mr Micro saw his wife’s Reddit post and thought the best way to live down the embarrassment would be to threaten a public lawsuit… Or, as Mrs Micro revealed in a follow up Reddit entry, “Says he wants an annulment and is considering suing me for defamation of character.”

Cruel? Yes.

Intelligent? No.

Here’s his ‘justification’, as told by his wife: “He says it’s only a matter of time before someone leaks his name. He saw the post through an old friend of his who knew he had a micropenis and saw on his FB that he had just gotten married. He doesn’t know who else the guy has told… I feel like I am the asshole. He is crushed that I posted about him.”

She also reveals how she confronted him about intentionally keeping his ‘situation’ from her, to which he claimed, “He wanted to talk before the wedding but feared it being called off because of his micropenis and said if both families found out/gossiped about it he would be crushed… Which is basically what I did with the entire world via Reddit.”

In other words: he hid it because he knew it might change her decision to marry him. Whilst his concern is understandable, his actions are not as a) even if effective they are unethical and manipulative and b) they were clearly never going to work ‘long term’.

So unless his end goal was simply to extort her, Mr Micro seems lacking in more than one department… But enough of that—what does this saga teach us?

As many point out, this story proves what is really important in a relationship is not your equipment (or lack of it), but your sense of trust. As Mrs Micro said in the begginning—it wasn’t the micropenis that bothered her; it was the lack of honesty.

So when comments like, “He could have been honest,” came rolling in, Mrs Micro felt duly justified in her anonymous mission. Because after all: even if it’s hard to do, you owe it to the person you’re dating (especially if you’re getting serious) the chance to be honest with you. And they can’t do that if you haven’t shown them your true self—micro-peen and all.

“As much as it sucks having people reject you for it when you’ve just met them, does not suck as much as ending up in a long term relationship and then losing them. Be honest up front, you might unnecessarily scare someone off; but better to be honest.”

New Study Confirms Dieting Isn’t The Best Solution To Lose Weight
New Study Confirms Dieting Isn’t The Best Solution To Lose Weight

It’s been said that you can’t out train a good diet, but today researchers have found proof that it’s actually the opposite. In other words, regular exercise will do you more good than a controlled diet.

The notion of eating clean and staying active as a combination still rings true, but what we do know now is that dieting isn’t the most effective way to get you that ripped summer body you’re after. The surprising new finding comes from the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus, a group who claims that exercise doesn’t just help you lose weight but can also help you to keep it off for longer.

Researchers came to this conclusion by studying a group of people who were consistently able to keep weight off. Their findings showed that the most successful weight loss maintainers were the ones who practiced physical activities on a regular basis to maintain energy balance, that is, energy in vs. energy out. What did they conclude? Remaining active is a more effective strategy than consistently reducing your dietary intake.

“This study addresses the difficult question of why so many people struggle to keep weight off over a long period. By providing evidence that a group of successful weight-loss maintainers engages in high levels of physical activity to prevent weight regain – rather than chronically restricting their energy intake – is a step forward to clarifying the relationship between exercise and weight-loss maintenance,” said Danielle Ostendorf, a PhD at the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center said.

The study was one of just a handful which looked at the total daily energy expenditure in weight-reduced individuals through a specific proven method – urine samples. More specifically, the researchers were able to measure a subject’s energy burn through their urine samples. In an adjoining study which looked the Body Mass Index of these weight-loss maintainers in comparison to those who were struggling to lose weight, researchers found something interesting about their eating habits.

“Our findings suggest that this group of successful weight-loss maintainers are consuming a similar number of calories per day as individuals with overweight and obesity but appear to avoid weight regain by compensating for this with high levels of physical activity,” said Victoria A. Catenacci, MD, a weight management physician and researcher at CU Anschutz Medical Campus.

Now we don’t recommend you go out smashing junk food everyday in the hopes that you’ll be okay since you cross fit once a week, but we do recommend a balance. The study didn’t stipulate if their weight-loss maintainers were civilians or athletes so the results may be subjective. Nonetheless it’s good to know that the next time someone tells you that you can’t out train a good diet, you can reply with “well ,actually…”

David Beckham Shows You How To Bear The Desert Heat & Still Look Smooth AF
David Beckham Shows You How To Bear The Desert Heat & Still Look Smooth AF

It was supposed to be all about the motor racing this weekend in Bahrain but somehow David Beckham managed to slide in and take some of that glory, not least for his impeccable summer suit that was made to take on the desert heat.

The English football star stepped out with the Red Bull Racing crew on race day rocking the perfect summer suit combination complete with some very sharp separates.

The suit consisted of sand coloured linen trousers paired with a cream white blazer and pinstripe blue shirt sans tie. Even the dress shoes were shod in brown suede for that extra touch of sartorial goodness that Beckham is so well known for. Finishing off this slick outfit is a contrasting yellow pocket square with polka dot patterning. Even Beckham button game was strong with the heat allowing for a mandatory button down of the shirt and a sweet pair of sun glasses.

So if you’ve ever wondered the secret to adding a bit of elegance to your pared down suit, this is it. Remember: fit comes first, then choosing the right colour and then adding accessories.

Supersonic Flights Could Be The Next Step In Luxury Travel’s Evolution
Supersonic Flights Could Be The Next Step In Luxury Travel’s Evolution

Whether it’s the security strip search or the fact you’re hurtling through the air in a glorified tin can, flying is arguably the most stressful travel experience. Don’t believe us? Just compare a Sydney to Dubai red-eye with a Paris to Venice overnight train; you’ll only wake up to butterflies in your stomach and a world-class Macchiato on one of the two.

But while ground-based transport has a certain magic about it, some trips require airborne locomotion—something we figured out in the 1950s, when mass air travel first took off. Since then, as happens with new technology, we’ve seen rapid improvements to users’ (in this case, passengers’) comfort and privacy across all classes (even Economy).

However, bar the Concorde’s infamous stint from 1976 to 2003, we haven’t seen a reduction in commercial flight times. In fact, in the last few decades, airlines have been getting slower. This is because flying faster than the industry standard (let alone beyond the speed of sound), given current technology, regulations and passenger expectations, is not economically viable.

Enter: Blake Scholl, the CEO of Boom Supersonic, who recently told the Should This Exist podcast that he aims to get people “anywhere on the planet in four hours for a hundred bucks.” While this sounds like a pipe dream, his company has received investment from both Japan Airlines and Virgin and is taking real-world steps to make it happen, step by step.

“Just as the jet age changed everything in our lives, a double-speed of travel could change it again,” (Should This Exist).

Competing against Spike Aerospace and Boeing Aerion, Boom Supersonic’s first goal is to create a 55 seat business class jet that—like the Concorde—can travel twice the speed of sound (two and a half times faster than today’s commercial jets). Unlike the Concorde, Boom Supersonic—according to Blake—will succeed. Of course—he would say that. So let’s take a look at his reasons.

Firstly: the Concorde was a public venture between the British and French governments, which—Blake reckons—failed to attract customers because it was a Cold War Era show off project; not because its technology was flawed: “When you do things for glory, well, you can do them. You can do things that are technologically very, very impressive. The problem is when there’s no requirement of a commercial model, it’s a bridge to nowhere.”

Blake also believes Boom Supersonic will overcome the other challenge the Concorde faced (being banned from flying over most countries due to the sonic boom it emitted), by flying routes like San Francisco to Tokyo, New York to London, Seattle to Shanghai, LA to Sydney and Tokyo to Perth—all of which are in-demand business travel routes, which take place over open ocean.

First, Blake has to design a jet faster than the speed of sound (1234.37km per hour), coming up with enough thrust to overcome the drag (which gets stronger at higher speeds). To do this, he says, Boom Supersonic is designing something that “looks like a fighter jet but flies like an airliner”.

He also believes that, over time, his company will, “Get supersonic to the point that everyone can afford to fly it,” imploring people to look beyond the exclusive initial offering, which is reportedly planned to begin service in 2023: “This is not about 55 passengers going Mach 2.2. This is about getting anywhere on the planet in four hours for a hundred bucks.”

When asked how he would make this a reality, however, he admitted it was somewhat out of his hands, explaining that it all comes down to consumer demand.

“If we look at Overture, our first airplane, with 55 seats, it’s like the Tesla Roadster in that, yeah, that was an expensive car for a small number of people and you could say, ‘Who needs joy rides in these superfast showy electric cars?’… But now we have the Model S and the Model 3 and we see the trajectory of where this is going…”

“You have to start for the market you can start with the tech that you have. And then the environmental profile gets better and the cost profile gets better – and then you’re able to take this new technology and bring it to everybody.”

Initially, however, he aims to attract business class customers, charging around $5,000 for a round trip New York to London ticket in his prototype jet Overture. The success of this will be crucial because it will give Boom Supersonic (and their financial backers) confidence to start investing in larger—more accessible—aircraft.

“There are things you can do with the aerodynamics in a larger aircraft, that you just can’t do on a smaller one – and what that means is that the fares can go down. And when the fares go down, more people can go more places, more often. And you start to get a flywheel spinning,” (Should This Exist).

“When we make enough progress in fuel-efficiency,” Blake told Should This Exist, “There’s a tipping point… that we’re going to see in our lifetimes… where the fastest flight actually becomes the cheapest one.”

“This isn’t science fiction, this is just engineering.”

While only time (and ticket sales) will tell, people’s reactions on Twitter range from cautiously optimistic:

To 100% sold:

Remember though—before we get carried away—everyone was super excited about Tesla before their sales started to plunge. So while it’s fair to say supersonic flights are a promising development—just because they are cool new technology doesn’t mean they are a guaranteed home run.
