Not Even A Rolex ‘Batman’ Can Save Tom Holland’s New Style Direction
Not Even A Rolex ‘Batman’ Can Save Tom Holland’s New Style Direction

If you’ve spent the last few years bulking up because you think it’s beefcakes like Chris Hemsworth that get all the girls, well, we’ve got some bad news for you. It’s skinny, sensitive-looking blokes like Tom Holland who are all the rage in Hollywood right now. It’s not hard to see why. Height aside, Tom Holland’s the full package. Smart, funny, talented, worldly… He’s even got pretty impeccable taste in watches, as any English gentleman worth their salt should. He’s also pretty dapper. Most of the time, at least. His latest outfit has given us pause on that account. Stepping out in Madrid earlier this week for the Spanish premiere of his latest blockbuster, Uncharted, the 25-year-old Brit looked positively nebbish with his new long hair, a blue turtleneck and some odd checked pants. Not even the uncontroversially stylish watch on his wrist – a Rolex GMT-Master II ‘Batman’ on an Oyster bracelet (ref. 126710BLNR-0003) – could distract from the awkwardness of his fit. Argh Tom, you’re killing us here!

The GMT-Master is easily one of the most iconic and desirable watches on the planet. It’s so popular that its different variants have all received widely-recognised and slightly wacky nicknames from the watch community. You’re probably familiar with the ‘Pepsi’ (a GMT-Master with a red and blue bezel). Other GMT-Masters with established nicknames include the ‘Coke’ (black and red bezel), the ‘Root Beer’ (brown and yellow bezel on two-tone yellow gold and steel) and, finally, the ‘Batman’ (black and blue bezel), which is what Holland’s wearing here. He also owns a Root Beer, by the way.RELATED: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Revives One Of Rolex’s Most Underrated WatchesBut back to that outfit – it’s hideous! Fans online have already pointed out the obvious comparison with famous science communicator Carl Sagan, although we reckon he looks more like a high school drama teacher, or librarian. Video Shows Off What It’s Really Like Inside A Massive Superyacht
Video Shows Off What It’s Really Like Inside A Massive Superyacht

A video has emerged online showing what the inside of a superyacht looks like. And not just any superyacht – a superyacht named after Quantum of Solace. While it remains unclear if this really is the yacht Dominic Greene looks down at Bond from as he rams another boat and steals Camille Montes Rivero (see: the 14-second mark in this video), it sure looks fancy enough to be a possibility (or maybe the owner was just a Bond fan).

The video was posted to TikTok by @mrsuperyachts and is captioned: “Welcome onboard Quantum of Solace yacht.” In the video, viewers are welcomed (virtually) aboard the Quantum of Solace superyacht, which we are told (in the video) is currently for sale for €56,400,000 (AU $89,733,963) and is “one of four yachts in the world with a double height atrium.”

The video also shows viewers the guest cabins, water level beach club with spa and gym, the pool and helicopter deck which can be turned into a DJ station and the superyacht’s full 73 mere length.

One joker in the comments wrote: “wow , luv it. I want it… think they will let me finance it with no money down and 200 dollars a month?”. While we admire their optimism, we imagine it will go to someone with a bit more cash to splash.

Lightyear Where To Watch Australia, Cast, Trailer & Reviews

Lightyear, a Toy Story spin-off film that revolves around the ‘human’ Buzz Lightyear was released in June 2022. Here’s everything you need to know about Lightyear.

Where To Watch Lightyear In Australia

Lightyear is available to stream exclusively on Disney+ as of the 3rd of August 2022.

Trailer

Want to see the Lightyear trailer? You can watch it below.

The Cast & Crew

Chris Evans, best known for portraying Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stars as the voice of Buzz Lightyear.

However, if you ask Taika Waititi, who voices a supporting character in Lightyear, Evans’ is not the lead, despite the fact he’s voicing the titular character. Waititi took to Twitter shortly after the first Lightyear trailer dropped and joked that he’s “the main star of this movie” and that he “pulled rank” to make the trailer focus on Evans’ character instead of his own.

Of course, Waititi was clearly joking and even hilariously misspelled Evans’ character’s name to further the joke. However, Evans handled the joke with gentlemanly grace Tweeting that, to him, Waititi is “the main star of every movie”.

Lightyear also stars Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, Peter Sohn, Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

Lightyear was written by Oscar-winner Pete Docter, known for co-writing the first two Toy Story films as well as co-writing and directing the Pixar film Up. Lightyear was directed by Angus MacLane, who’s previously directed several Toy Story short films.

The Plot

First of all, the Buzz Lightyear in this film is not the same Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. This film focuses on the ‘human’ Buzz on which the toy Buzz, originally voiced by Tim Allen, was based.

In Lightyear, Buzz is a space ranger stranded on a strange planet with his crew and they are trying desperately to get home when they encounter a robot army ruled by Emperor Zurg.

What The Critics & Reviews Say

Currently, Lightyear has a 5.4 IMDb score and a critic rating of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Australian Release Date

Lightyear was released on June 16th 2022.

How To ‘Kick The Arse’ Out Of Loneliness & Depression, According To Someone Living With It
How To ‘Kick The Arse’ Out Of Loneliness & Depression, According To Someone Living With It

Kicking the arse out of loneliness and depression is a noble, if difficult, goal. For many guys, in a world where they are liable to be called a princess for showing any hint of vulnerability, it’s hard to know where to start. And as much as we are used to hearing the well-meaning catchphrases “it’s ok to not be ok,” “it’s ok to show vulnerability” and “speak up” there is a huge difference between intellectually knowing these things are ok, and feeling these things are ok.

After all: a couple of years of shifting public norms aren’t going to magically cancel out 20 years (or depending on how old you are, perhaps 80 or 90 years) of being steeped in a “suck it up” culture. Not that it’s bad to be resourceful and independent, but when toughing things out on your own is the only tool in your kit, when you hit an emotional roadblock you’re likely to get stuck.

But while there is no magic solution to your sometimes bleak feelings, what almost always seems to help, is opening up and talking to a trusted source about them.

DMARGE recently spoke with Justin Noble, a men’s mentor and workplace well being coach, about this. Justin shared how he has suffered with depression over the years and, after a break up a few years back, found himself in a really tough place.

“Long story short, a couple of years ago I had broken up with an ex-partner and, like most, went through a real rough patch. I’ve actually been prone to depression throughout my life [and] it was about two and a half years ago when I absolutely hit rock bottom and was very, very close to throwing the towel in. Thankfully I didn’t. But during that time of recovery and healing, I came across a couple of men’s groups. One in particular called The Banksia Project.”

Video: Justin Explains The Difference Between Self Esteem & Confidence

During this experience Justin realised how powerful a tool these kind of groups can be.

“I joined the group and over the net six months or so realised how powerful they were for getting men together who had been through difficult stuff – and most of us have been through difficult stuff – whether parenting or work or relationships.”

“This was a really great way for guys to talk about stuff that was really important and feel validated actually supporting each other. As you probably appreciate, most of the time, when us blokes go down the pub it’s like: getting pissed, having fun, talking about footy, that kind of stuff.”

Justin added: “The older people get, the more isolated they get – particularly when they have kids and the less opportunity they have to talk about this kind of stuff. In this day and age what we are all missing a lot of is that feeling of connection.”

To try to help other guys find this feeling of connection, in the wake of COVID and its detrimental effect on many people’s mental health, Justin has decided to set up a Friday lunchtime meeting session at Salty’s in Bondi, where he lives.

RELATED: 2020 Was ‘As Bad As Smoking’ On Your Health

“I had done a few online similar things, but I wanted to create something that was face to face where we could really connect face-to-face, read body language and all that kind of stuff that we haven’t been getting online.”

Justin anticipates the common issues that will be discussed will be relationships: “The most obvious one is relationships – whether someone is actually going through a break up or a divorce. The group I have been a part of for a couple of years now, a couple of those guys, one lost a partner to cancer and another, his partner broke up with him and he was 59 years of age so that was pretty devastating after being together for 30 years.”

Justin adds that “a lot of men just solely rely on their partners and for all the best will in the world, it’s not the same,” he says, as having a group of mates who can really understand where you’re coming from and how you think.

Justin says that having a group of people who have got to know each other over a period of time allows people to talk about various insecurities that they may not feel comfortable talking with their partners’ at home about.

“With people who have got to know each other over a period of time the conversation just flows. What we’ve taken away from these groups is that we’re not necessarily there to solve people’s problems.”

“Most of us have had that experience where we might have talked to our friends about stuff and they give you advice and you’re just kind of like, ‘f*ck off, I just want to be heard, I just want to get it off my chest,’ that’s kind of the ethos.”

Justin Noble

“That doesn’t mean advice can’t be asked for or offered if permission is given, but it’s much more on that premise of being heard.”

“The more I share my vulnerability the more it creates a platform for people to do the same and talk about theirs.”

Justin says that part of the reason a lot of men find value in these kinds of groups is “because blokes are conditioned from an early age to be men, to man up, to not cry, to not show emotion. All those kinds of things when we are just as human as women and we have a similar spectrum of emotions rather than just happy, angry, sad.”

For this reason, it’s really important men can find someone they can talk to and that they trust because the challenge we have is that “we’ve been conditioned to be a man and not to show emotions when difficult situations arise. We really struggle to know what to do with that and we struggle putting our hands up to say, ‘I’m having a tough time and I need some help,’ but when we evolved 300,000 years ago we were in tribes, small groups…”

“We struggle to talk about stuff as men because of conditioning from an early age. I see so many isolated and lonely men out there who are struggling with their own personal battles and not knowing what to do about it and it takes courage and it’s actually being a real man to deal with your problems rather than to give in to that loneliness and that depression.”

Justin Noble

“The #1 thing I’d say is just find someone you can talk to, expand your horizon, it’s often better if it’s not someone you know because they don’t have biases and they can’t cast judgement. Sometimes that could be some professional but it doesn’t have to be. It just has to be someone that you trust, basically.”

“Younger people are a bit more in tune [with their emotions]. But even still there are a lot of challenging mental health problems going on.”

Even though many men are taking the current attack on ‘old school’ masculinity the wrong way (many guys feel the need to defend ‘traditional’ masculinity as an operating software simply by reflex, as it’s their link, however flawed, to history, ancestors, stories, HBO myths, whatever) recognising that embracing traits that have historically been defined as feminine (but are actually just useful tools for all people) is key to being a well-rounded human.

“Being bold and forward and taking action is considered more masculine whereas being empathetic, thoughtful considerate is more traditionally considered feminine and it’s really important to have both [regardless of your gender],” Justin told us.

“Most men that I talk to about this, they acknowledge ‘we need to speak up blah blah’ but there’s the rational part of the brain that acknowledges that and the inner subconscious and deep down part of you – the emotional part of you which when that scenario comes up you don’t take that action.”

“You might hear that message but it doesn’t resonate on that level.”

“Even now for me I’ve spent a long time on myself trying to be self-aware, I’ve done a lot of self-reflection, all that kind of stuff, but I still catch myself having difficult times thinking: ‘I won’t bother talking to them about it. They don’t need to know. It’s my shit. It’s just in my head.’ And lo and behold, I go for a walk with someone, end up talking about whatever is on my mind and feel a huge sense of relief after and I realise I have been bottling it up.”

Justin Noble

If this has piqued your interest, get in touch with Justin and keep an eye out for his next Friday meeting.

Porsche Introduces New ‘Supercar For A Day’ Service In Australia
Porsche Introduces New ‘Supercar For A Day’ Service In Australia

You can’t really call yourself a revhead until you’ve driven a Porsche. The Porsche 911 is one of the most iconic cars of all time, and the Stuttgart marque’s other impressive sports cars are all serious bucket list items. But owning a Porsche is a pretty serious commitment. On top of that, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a generous soul who’ll let you have a no-strings-attached joy ride in their Germanic pride and joy… Or a sports car rental company that isn’t just a little bit dodgy. For many Australians, the dream of driving a Porsche has been just out of reach.Until now, that is. Porsche Australia has just unveiled an exciting new program that gives mere mortals like us the chance to get behind the wheel of automotive perfection in a way that’s far more convenient and worry-free than any other offering on the market.

Image: Porsche Australia
It’s called Porsche Drive Rental. Long offered in overseas markets such as Germany and Japan, it does what it says on the tin: lets Aussies access selected Porsche models from Porsche directly short-term use. It’s ideal for drivers who want casual access to a Porsche sports car or the chance to experience their dream ride.Starting off as a six-month-long pilot program in Melbourne, Porsche Drive Rental will let customers rent one of three models (which happen to Porsche’s most desirable): the legendary 911 Carrera 4S, manic 718 Boxster S and the impressive all-electric Taycan 4S.Program customers can book for a day, weekend or week, which includes a generous mileage allowance, lets you register a second driver, and even covers road tolls – so no need to mess around taking the E-Tag out of your own ride. The cars are fully insured and are comprehensively sanitised between drives (very important during these COVID times). Better yet, when you pick up the vehicle you’ll get a personal handover and comprehensive instruction on how to drive your weapon of choice.Watch Norwegian Olympic skiing star Aksel Lund Svindal recreate the iconic ‘Porsche Jump’ with the new Porsche Taycan below.

The big, unspoken advantage of the Porsche Drive Rental program is that because it’s run by Porsche themselves, you don’t have to worry about dealing with skeevy rental car businesses who might not take care of the cars in their fleet. Porsche Drive Rental’s vehicles all benefit from being serviced directly by Porsche, which means they’ll be operating at peak performance and safety. There’s really only two catches: you need to be over 27 and Porsche require a $6,000 deposit upon vehicle collection. Which is perfectly reasonable, under the circumstances. Otherwise, it’s a seamless, trustworthy and convenient way to get behind the wheel of a Porsche.Fingers crossed the pilot program is successful in Melbourne and Porsche offers the service in other cities. We’d quite like the chance to rent a cheeky Boxster for a cruise up the Gold Coast…Find out more about Porsche Drive Rental here.Read Next

13 Best Horror Movies On Netflix Australia
13 Best Horror Movies On Netflix Australia

There’s nothing quite like the adrenaline a good horror film gives you. If you’re in the mood for a scare, there are a ton of horror flicks on Netflix Australia perfect for a spooky movie night. Whether you’re into slasher, gory, supernatural or psychological horror films, we’ve got you covered.

We’ve dug through the huge selection of horror movies on Netflix Australia to bring you the definitive list of scary movies you need to watch.

Bird Box

6.6 IMDb score, stars Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich & Sarah Paulson, Horror & Sci-Fi, released in 2018

An unknown and unseen phenomenon is driving people to kill themselves and all that humanity knows is that if you see ‘it’, you’ll die. A woman and her two children, therefore, try to make their way to a place where they’ll be safe; but it’s a treacherous journey to get there and they must do it blindfolded.

Bird Box isn’t the best horror film of all time but it does have some genuinely chilling moments and Bullock’s performance is top tier.

The Conjuring

7.5 IMDb score, stars Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga & Ron Livingston, Horror & Mystery, released in 2013

Set in the early 70s, The Conjuring follows the Perron family as they move into an old farmhouse in Rhode Island. Soon, the family realises there’s a dark presence in the house so they seek the help of paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren.

This film was actually based on a true story and is extremely grounded (a rarity for paranormal horror films); those two facts alone make The Conjuring one of the best horror films from the last twenty years.

The Exorcist

8.0 IMDb score, stars Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair & Max von Sydow, Horror, released in 1973

Considered one of the scariest films of all time and loosely based on a true story, the classic film The Exorcist follows a worried mother who seeks help when her 12-year-old daughter starts acting strange. Two priests attempt an exorcism on the young girl when they suspect that she’s been possessed by the devil.

Considering it was made in the 70s, The Exorcism has some great special effects and is still quite scary for those that don’t handle horror films well.

Gerald’s Game

6.5 IMDb score, stars Carla Gugino & Bruce Greenwood, Drama, Horror & Thriller, released in 2017

A couple travels to a remote lakehouse to spice up their marriage… and their sex life. The husband playfully handcuffs his wife to the bed during foreplay but when he unexpectedly dies, the wife is left to fight for her freedom and survival.

Sure, it’s a slightly weird premise but it is based on a novel by iconic horror writer Stephen King. Plus, Gugino’s impressive performance makes Gerald’s Game a must-watch for horror fans.

His House

6.5 IMDb score, stars Sope Dirisu, Wunmi Mosaku & Matt Smith, Drama, Horror & Thriller, released in 2020

After escaping from South Sudan which has been ravaged by war, a refugee couple is granted to live in the outskirts of London. However, the couple struggle adjusting their new life especially as they can both sense something evil in their house.

Complete with an underlying social commentary and a devastating twist, His House is a rather refreshing horror film that doesn’t follow all of the cliched tropes of the genre.

Hush

6.6 IMDb score, stars John Gallagher Jr & Kate Siegal, Horror & Thriller, released in 2016

Hush follows a deaf woman who lives alone in a remote wooded area. She must fight for her life when a mysterious masked man turns up and attempts to break into her house and kill her. Full of tension, Hush is a fantastic modern slasher film.

If you’re a fan of Stephen King, he highly praised and recommended Hush on Twitter, so it must be good.

I See You

6.8 IMDb score, star Helen Hunt & Jon Tenney, Crime, Drama & Horror, released in 2019

A small-town detective investigates the mysterious disappearance of a young boy but a series of strange events begin to occur to the detective and his family. I See You is definitely more of a thriller rather than a horror film, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you enjoy horror films that are more psychological than gore, I See You is for you.

The Invisible Man

7.1 IMDb score, stars Elisabeth Moss, Drama, Horror & Mystery, released in 2020

When an abusive scientist takes his own life, his wife Cecilia suddenly becomes plagued by an invisible entity that stalks and attacks her. However, because no one can see it, no one believes her, leaving Cecilia to take matters into her own hands.

Moss’s performance is incredible and this remake is an extremely modern and horrifying take on the original 1933 The Invisible Man film.

Orphan

7.0 IMDb score, stars Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard & Isabelle Fuhrman, Horror & Mystery, released in 2009

A truly chilling film, Orphan follows a married couple who adopt a nine-year-old girl after losing their unborn baby. However, when a series of dark and dangerous events unfold, the couple begins to suspect that the seemingly angelic child they adopted, may be evil.

Orphan is gripping, extremely well-directed, and child actor Fuhrman gives an outstanding acting performance; this is a must-watch for horror fans.

The Platform

7.0 IMDb score, stars Ivan Massagué, Zorion Eguileor & Antonia San Juan, Horror, Sci-Fi & Thriller, released in 2019

Set in the distant future, The Platform follows the inmates of vertical prison where the inmates on higher levels are fed while starving inmates watch from below. The film is grim and violent and has a wonderful social commentary underlying its plot.

If you’re after a horror film that’s well-written and will really make you think, The Platform is a must-watch.

The Ritual

6.3 IMDb score, stars Rafe Spall, Arsher Ali & Robert James-Collier, Horror, Mystery & Thriller, released in 2017

Four old college friends decide to reunite for a hiking trip but, unbeknown to them, an ancient evil lurks in the forest. An intriguing story with an eerie and creepy soundtrack, The Ritual will make you feel tense.

If you liked The Blair Witch Project you’ll highly enjoy The Ritual.

Verónica

Image Credit: Sony Pictures Releasing International

6.2 IMDb score, stars Sandra Escacena, Horror, released in 2017

During a rare solar eclipse in 1991, a young teenage girl, Verónica, and her two school-friends conduct a seance using an Ouija board. The seance goes horribly wrong and Verónica becomes tormented by an evil supernatural force.

Verónica is moderately scary, more so when you learn the film was based on a true story and has a wonderful ‘haunted house’ feel to it.

1922

6.3 IMDb score, stars Thomas Jane, Molly Parker & Dylan Schmid, Crime, Drama & Horror, released in 2017

Based on a Stephen King novella, 1922 follows a farmer who decides to kill his wife for financial gain. The farmer convinces his teenage son to assist him with the murder but shortly after they succeed in killing her, the two are plagued by strange, supernatural events.

1922 is more unsettling than scary but will still be immensely enjoyed by horror fans.

‘What Should I Do?’: Passenger Shaming Clip Sparks Debate
‘What Should I Do?’: Passenger Shaming Clip Sparks Debate

A viral clip of a disgusting plane act has sparked debate. The clip shows a passenger reclining in such a disrespectful position it inspired online commenters to make such remarks as: “Correct her behaviour by all means necessary” and “Sneeze on them.”

What act might inspire such harsh responses? Watch the video below and find out.

Video: Rude In-Flight Act

The clip shows a passenger putting their feet up and through the gap between the seats in front of them, right on the armrest. The caption reads: “I was laying down and felt this lady’s feet on my head. What should I do?”

Comments ranged from forgiving to enraged (but mostly enraged). One wrote: “Compliments to her pedicure.” Another (professional surfer and Instagram addict Kelly Slater) said: “Paint those nails a different colour.”

Others chose violence. One wrote: “Can you accidentally drop your hot coffee on there?” Another commented: “This is why I carry superglue on planes.” It didn’t end there. Another two comments included: “Slam that armrest up” and “Muay Thai elbow to the pinky toe.”

Yet others were more sensible (but still aggrieved), suggesting the beleaguered passenger (according to @justthepassengershamingtip, who reposted the video, this was @alisonbowles) should “make an exaggerated sneeze sound while flicking some water on their feet.”

“Push that arm rest up. Story over.”

Yet another tale to go into the annals of Poor Passenger Behaviour.
