Commercial Flights On Electric Planes Will Soon Be An Option For Australians
Commercial Flights On Electric Planes Will Soon Be An Option For Australians

Forget getting Teslas as Ubers or zipping around town on electric scooters – aviation experts agree that Australians will be able to travel on electric aircraft from 2024…

While things might seem a bit doom and gloom at the moment – the world just went through a massive pandemic, monkeypox is running rampant and Australia’s recently faced detrimental flooding, with more to come – there have actually been some incredible advances in technology lately.

For example, regular joes (with a spare $50,000) can soon travel to space, and Australians will be able to fly on electric aircraft, which will produce far fewer carbon emissions than your average passenger plane, from as early as 2024 – at least according to aviation experts.

Rex Airlines have announced that it’s going to retrofit some of its planes with electric-propulsion engines and will be the first Australian airline to trial the new technology on selected commercial regional flights.

“We will be doing trials in 2024, with a real aircraft, where we’ll swap out the existing engine, which burns jet fuel… we’ll put in an electric motor that will be supported by a combination of both batteries and hydrogen,” John Sharp, Rex’s Deputy Chairman, told ABC News.

“Between the batteries and the hydrogen, the electric motor will drive the aeroplane through the air and get you from A to B.”

And it’s not just Rex getting in on the electric action. Keith Tonkin, managing director of Aviation Projects, also spoke to ABC News, sharing that multiple Australian airlines and aircraft manufacturers are developing and investing in electric aircraft. Tonkin also believes that within two years, Australians will have the option to fly on electric aircraft for short trips.

“The technology is working. It’s been proven in trial flight, and we can do a lot in two years.”

Keith Tonkin, Aviation Projects Managing Director

Centre for Aviation Chairman Emeritus Peter Harbison agrees, and further added that while electric aircraft won’t be capable of travelling long distances anytime soon, short flights will definitely be an option in the not too distant future.

“The problem with electric operations in aircraft is that they basically rely on batteries, and batteries are heavy. If you wanted to fuel an A380 for a long-haul flight, you need a battery that weighed something like 500 tonnes, which is more than the weight of the aircraft itself at the moment.”

“But on smaller, shorter sectors, it is going to be possible quite soon… within the next two to five years, to have aircraft that can operate short-haul on electric power.”

Peter Harbison, Centre for Aviation Chairman Emeritus

It’s unclear at this stage whether fares for electric aircraft flights will be more expensive than fares for regular aircraft flights but considering that electric cars are currently more expensive than those that guzzle petrol, it may be a likely possibility… At least in the short to medium term.

Tyrion Lannister’s Wittiest Lines From ‘Game Of Thrones’
Tyrion Lannister’s Wittiest Lines From ‘Game Of Thrones’

Game of Thrones was iconic. When the series hit our screens back in 2011, people couldn’t stop talking about how good it was. And Lord Tyrion Lannister, the witty and intelligent dwarf played by Peter Dinklage, quickly became a fan-favourite character.

Mainly because of Tyrion’s dialogue; he shared many incredibly wise quotes over the course of the show as well as hilarious ones.

And since House of the Dragon has reminded us all how good Game of Thrones was (in its prime), we thought we’d share Tyrion Lannister’s best quotes.

When Tyrion gives Jon Snow some solid advice

In the very first episode of Game of Thrones, Tyrion tells Jon Snow:

“Never forget what you are, the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armour and it can never be used to hurt you.”

When Tyrion burned Janos so badly he needed ice

Lord Janos, in Season 2’s second episode, yells that he will not have his honour questioned by an imp but Tyrion doesn’t let the slur bother him. Instead, Tyrion comes up with one of the best responses of all time:

“I’m not questioning your honour, Lord Janos… I’m denying its existence.”

When Tyrion introduced democracy to Westeros

We know that the Game of Thrones finale wasn’t all it could’ve been but Tyrion still managed to impart wisdom one last time and essentially, ended the titular game of thrones:

“Sons of kings can be cruel and stupid as you well know. His will never torment us. That is the wheel our queen wanted to break. From now on, rulers will not be born, they will be chosen, on this spot, by the lords and ladies of Westeros to serve the realm.”

When Tyrion clapped back at Joffrey

Tyrion always put King Joffrey in his place. And when Joffrey called Tyrion a “little monster” in Season 3, Episode 10, Tyrion had the perfect comeback (as he often does):

“Monsters are dangerous and, just now, kings are dying like flies.”

When Tyrion aptly describes himself

In the second episode of Season 2, Tyrion simply drops this truth bomb about himself and it’s incredible:

“That’s what I do, I drink and I know things.”

IWC’s ‘Colours Of TOP GUN’ Watches Are A Masterclass In Modern Design
IWC’s ‘Colours Of TOP GUN’ Watches Are A Masterclass In Modern Design

The following article was produced in partnership with IWC Schaffhausen.

To the uninitiated, you’d think that all the science was settled when it comes to mechanical watches. We’ve had watches for hundreds of years, what more is there that you can do? Au contraire. The watch industry is one of the most innovative and future-forward industries on the planet, constantly pushing boundaries when it comes to art, engineering and materials.

Right at the forefront of innovation in the watch industry sits IWC Schaffhausen. The 154-year-old firm has been behind a number of watchmaking firsts but is a particular pioneer when it comes to material technology – specifically ceramics.

Now, in 2022, IWC is combining their expertise with ceramics in watchmaking with a rather unique approach to watch design that shows that they’ve not just got substance, but a whole lot of style, too.

“As a designer, the advantage of working with a brand like IWC which is so established in the watch industry is that you have, by definition, a certain recognizability… At the same time, we’ve got this design code that leaves a lot of room for interpretation… The watch works as a canvas for creativity.”

Christian Knoop, IWC Schaffhausen Creative Director

Ceramic is an ideal material for watch cases as it’s scratch-resistant, light and highly biocompatible. It can also be produced in a wide variety of different colours. The downside of ceramic is that it’s exceptionally hard to work with – especially when you introduce different colours into the mix. Coloured ceramics are some of the most fiddly and hard-to-produce materials in watchmaking, which is why IWC is one of only a few watchmakers who can do so.

IWC’s latest watch collection, titled the ‘Colours of TOP GUN’, are perhaps their most striking ceramic watches yet. Bold, stark and rich in colour, they’re the perfect mix of art, science and engineering.

Why ‘TOP GUN’? Well, these watches are named in honour of the United States Navy’s Fighter Weapons School, better known as TOPGUN – makes sense that a watchmaker so intimately connected with the world of aviation would be inspired by such a high-flying outfit.

Similarly, the two Colours of TOP GUN watches are inspired by the extreme colours encountered by jet pilots during their missions, as well as the surroundings in which these high flyers hone their skills.

The first of the two Colours of TOP GUN watches is the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Lake Tahoe” (ref. IW389105), which was inspired by white US Navy uniforms and the fascinating winter landscape around Lake Tahoe, which straddles California and Nevada and remains a popular training area for naval aviators.

High-contrast and extremely eye-catching, the Lake Tahoe combines a white ceramic case with a black dial and black hands. The case back is made of titanium, while the pushers and crown are made of stainless steel, lending the timepiece a design that is as pure as it is contrasting. It comes on a white rubber strap with a deployant clasp for ease of use.

The Lake Tahoe is at once both a proper statement piece as well as a surprisingly versatile daily wearer. Many other luxury watchmakers make white ceramic watches, but IWC’s Lake Tahoe is a cut above the rest.

Also in the collection is the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Woodland” (ref.  IW389106), which was inspired by the flight suits and uniforms worn by the elite pilots in the TOPGUN flight school and the vast forest landscapes these pilots fly over.

IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Woodland” (ref.  IW389106)

The Woodland combines a dark green ceramic case with a dark green dial, plus numerals and hour markers printed in a lighter hue of green. It also has a matching green textile/rubber strap, whilst other hardware elements such as the chrono pushers, crown and back case are made out of matte black Ceratanium, IWC’s signature scratch-resistant, ultra-tough titanium/ceramic composite.

It’s hard to overstate just how hard it is to make a green ceramic watch case, as well as how well executed this watch is. Green watches are having a real moment in 2022, but IWC’s Woodland is easily the best green watch on the market.

“We are very much linked to an engineering approach; to purity and timeless design. That’s part of our DNA. But on the other hand, we are still a luxury brand that is about craftsmanship and detail… It’s also really about the passion for detail, the extra mile, the extra functionality and the extra touch in the material that really makes our product.”

Christian Knoop

Both the Woodland and the Lake Tahoe aren’t just pretty pieces, either: they’re high-performance pilot’s chronographs designed for maximum legibility and toughness. Boasting an atypical tri-compax layout with a day-date window at 3 o’clock, they’re the perfect precision timekeepers as well as wearable pieces of art.

Christian Knoop, IWC Schaffhausen Creative Director

What’s really cool about these two watches is that IWC partnered with PANTONE, the world-famous colour institute, to codify the unique hues of these watches’ cases as official PANTONE colours: IWC Lake Tahoe and IWC Woodland respectively.

This was a masterstroke on IWC’s part. IWC have always had the technical aspects of watchmaking down pat, but by partnering with PANTONE, IWC demonstrates how they also understand the design; the artistic aspect of watchmaking, too. It’s about conquering war zones and cocktail parties with a similar aplomb.

“For me, the ultimate test is always when we come up with a new release for people to not only say okay, it’s a nice watch, but that it’s a true IWC.”

Christian Knoop

In this sense, the two IWC Colours of TOP GUN watches are both true IWCs. They’re different, innovative, stylish, fun… They’ve got everything you need in a high-end timepiece, and more. That’s why they’re so exciting.

‘Breaking Bad’ Star Giancarlo Esposito In Talks To Play Iconic Marvel Character
‘Breaking Bad’ Star Giancarlo Esposito In Talks To Play Iconic Marvel Character

Giancarlo Esposito, best known for his roles in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has said he could potentially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

It looks like Giancarlo Esposito, the actor best known for playing Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, will (hopefully) star in an upcoming MCU film and/or series. A viral TikTok posted by user countdowncitygeeks shows Esposito on stage while at the TJH Superhero Car Show & Comic Con in San Antonio, Texas.

And the actor excitedly announced that while he has “not worked for Marvel yet”, he has “been in a room with them and talked to them.” Though he didn’t specify who “they” are exactly, we’re hoping it’s the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige. Esposito then teased which character he’s likely to play if he does indeed join the MCU.

“So, there’s been talk of Magneto. There’s been talk of Dr Freeze. There has been talk of, who else are they talking about over here? Oh, [Dr] Doom. And there is Professor X.”

Giancarlo Esposito

At this point, Esposito was asked which character he would want to play if he got the choice. To which the five-time Emmy-nominee responded with, “I’m gonna go with something a little bit different. I’m gonna go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X.”

WATCH: Giancarlo Esposito talks about maybe joining the MCU…

Sir Patrick Stewart played the first MCU iteration of Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness earlier this year. However, Stewart played a version of Professor X from a different dimension (Earth-838) and as of yet, Marvel Studios has not revealed whether Stewart will play Professor X in the main MCU dimension (Earth-616).

This means it’s very possible that Esposito could play Professor X in a future MCU project. And considering Esposito usually plays the bad guy – Gus Fring in Breaking Bad & Beter Call Saul, Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian and Stan Edgar in The Boys – it would be extremely refreshing to see him take on a heroic role.

Although, if Esposito does win the role of Professor X, it’s unclear when he’ll actually appear in the MCU. Hopefully, it’ll be announced next month at Disney’s D23 Expo where it’s expected that Marvel will share major MCU casting and film news. Stay tuned…

New York’s Controversial ‘Gucci Pastor’ Gets Robbed Of His Gucci
New York’s Controversial ‘Gucci Pastor’ Gets Robbed Of His Gucci

Matthew 5:5 says “blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” Maybe that’s why this Gucci-loving preacher has had his luxurious possessions stripped from him…

In what’s quickly shaping up to be one of the most bizarre stories of 2022, Bishop Lamor Whitehead – the leader of an obscure Brooklyn congregation called Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries – was robbed of around $1 million of chains, rings, watches and other jewellery in the middle of a service.

The theft was actually captured on livestream – although the congregation has since taken down the video.

The controversial pastor, a prosperity gospel preacher known for his outlandish taste in designer clothes, luxury goods and high-end automobiles, has called the robbery (or rather his survival) a miracle… But it’s also raised obvious questions about why a man of God should have such insane luxuries, as well as drawn attention to Whitehead’s chequered past.

WATCH the ‘Gucci Pastor’ getting robbed below.

Whitehead, who has also been called the “bling bishop”, has allegedly committed identity theft numerous times and owes more than $400,000 in judgments to a construction company that built his house as well as the credit union that financed his Mercedes-Benz and Range Rover, according to The New York Times.

Horrific Video Shows What Happens When You Totally Bust Your Biceps
Horrific Video Shows What Happens When You Totally Bust Your Biceps

Despite the innumerable horror stories of weight lifting injuries, the vast majority of us mostly manage to leave the gym unscathed. However, one man has found out – the painful way – that injuries can occur when you least suspect them.

That man is Joe, a US military veteran and personal trainer and owner of Illuminati Iron who, in August 2021, tore the tendons in his biceps when performing a barbell preacher curl. The painful moment was caught on film, as Joe was recording himself demonstrating the progressive overload muscle-building technique.

WATCH: Joe tears his biceps but pursues a course of rehab and recovery.

The video is still on his Instagram page, and in the caption, he says “While trying to demonstrate progressive overloading, I put myself in a vulnerable position as soon I sat down for the very first rep.”

“My seat was too low and with little to no leverage, the ENTIRE weight was placed completely on my tendons rather than evenly distributed across my biceps.”

“The final set was not a PR or max weight. Prior to the workout, I was well-rested, properly hydrated/fed, and warmed-up as always. Anything can happen to any one of us at any time as nothing in life is guaranteed.⁣”

Graphic content aside, Joe’s post perfectly demonstrates why it pays to not only lift lighter weights in the gym, especially if you’re new to an exercise but that form, technique and setting up the machines properly are imperative.

RELATED: How To Perform A Deadlift Correct To Avoid Injury

Joe didn’t let his injury hold him back, however, over the course of the next 12 months, he underwent surgery and slowly but surely regained his strength. Following surgery, which saw both his right and left distal bicep tendons being reattached, Joe had to wear braces on both arms. These braces, he said, “control range of motion between 30 and 90 degrees.”

It wasn’t until November, three months after his injury, that Joe started performing bicep curls again. And, as he was going through a rehabilitation process, he had to start light, just 5lbs/2kg. He was then able to raise this to 10lbs by January and his arm braces came off soon after.

Since then, Joe has constantly kept a positive mindset, knowing that he would eventually get back to his original levels of strength. On top of his slow but steady progress with arm exercises, he continued performing other strength workouts to train other muscles in his body, along with some cardio work.

One of Joe’s most recent posts from June shows him performing a workout in Yosemite National Park, and had you not known about his biceps injury, you would be none the wiser. Joe appears to be back to full strength, performing bicep curls, kettlebell swings, overhead kettlebell presses and more.

It’s another classic case of mind over matter, and not letting adversaries of any sort stand in your way.

How You Can Tell Who The Villain Is Before The Plot Twist Is Revealed
How You Can Tell Who The Villain Is Before The Plot Twist Is Revealed

There’s a simple trick, involving phones, that’ll make sure you’re never fooled by a plot twist revealing the ‘villainous’ character again…

If you’re anything like me, you get a kick out of watching thrillers and crime dramas. And you get an extra surge of pleasure when you correctly guess who the villain is before it’s revealed.

For example, I knew that the old man from Squid Game was a bad guy from the first episode; I could just feel it in my bones. Obviously, I was extremely satisfied and smug when the final episode proved me right.

Likewise, when the final episode of Falcon and the Winter Solider revealed that Sharon Carter was the Power Broker, the villainous crime boss who was having super soldier serum developed, I was not surprised because, again, I suspected Sharon in an earlier episode.

I suspected Sharon as soon as she was shown using a phone that wasn’t an iPhone. Image Credit: Marvel Studios

While I can’t explain how I knew Oh Il-nam from Squid Game was bad – call it intuition – I can explain how I knew that Sharon was bad. I used the old iPhone trick.

For years, it’s been speculated that Apple doesn’t allow their products – i.e. an iPhone – to be used in films and television by a villainous character. Infamously, many fans of the television series, 24 were able to figure out that a Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) analyst was actually a mole episodes before it was revealed because he was the only one in the CTU not using a Mac; he used a PC.

Then in 2020, Rian Johnson – the director of Knives Out – told Vanity Fair that this speculation is true. “Apple, they let you use iPhones in movies, but, and this is very pivotal, if you’re ever watching a mystery movie, bad guys cannot have iPhones on camera,” he said.

The only character in Defending Jacob – a show produced by Apple – that doesn’t use an iPhone is a convicted pedophile. Image Credit: Apple TV+

And if you watch Knives Out closely, you’ll see everyone in the Thrombey family uses an iPhone, except for Chris Evans’ character, who is ultimately revealed as the murderer. Similarly, that’s how I knew Sharon Carter was the Power Broker; an earlier episode of Falcon and the Winter Solider showed her using a phone that wasn’t an iPhone.

And if you think these are just coincidences, there are plenty of examples that prove it to be true. In the Apple TV+ miniseries, Defending Jacob, you’d think that every character would have an iPhone, as the show was produced by Apple. And while yes, most characters are shown using iPhones, one character, a convicted pedophile, is shown using an Android.

Of course, Apple has never confirmed (or denied) the rumours but take it from me, if you enjoy correctly guessing who the villain is in mystery films and thrilling crime shows long before the reveal, pay close attention to what type of phone each character uses. Because nine times out of ten if a character isn’t using an iPhone, they’re (to quote Billie Eilish) “the bad guy. Duh.”
