Venice To Treat Tourists Like Cattle, According To Latest Change
Venice To Treat Tourists Like Cattle, According To Latest Change

Venice is known for being beautiful and bespoiled. But it’s now fighting back. After years of discussions (and tourists being fined for their bad behaviour within city walls), Venice is now going to do away with the nonsense, assume the worst, and simply charge every tourist an entry fee as they slip in.There will potentially also be turnstiles at the gates and requirements for advance reservations. This is according to Italian newspaper La Stampa, which has said the entry fee will come into effect next summer. The overall goal is claimed to be to improve the experience for both visitors and locals.

According to La Stampa, entry might cost anything from 3 euros (AUD $4.89) to 10 euros (AUD $16.29), depending on the time of year and on how many tourists are expected on any given day. They also claimed locals, relatives of residents, and tourists who have booked into approved hotels (i.e. ones that pay tax, not Airbnbs) will be among those exempt from the entry fee.Earlier this year Venice banned cruise ships from its historic centre.Speaking of boats, not everyone is on board with the latest proposal to charge tourists a cover fee, with some Venetian government figures suggesting the ‘entry fee’ model should only apply to ultra crowded areas of the city, not the entire city itself.Business Insider also raises the question that it could set a precedent for a two-track economy.Business Insider reports, “If the pay-to-enter model spreads wider, it could signal a two-track economy where only some can afford to participate. And it’s not just about money – New York and San Francisco require proof of vaccination for many indoor activities like dining and using the gym. Los Angeles will require it for gatherings of more than 1,000 people.”Back to Venice though – the city faces many problems beyond just over-tourism. Joe Jonas Shares ‘Stamina Boosting’ Workout Every Man Should Try
Joe Jonas Shares ‘Stamina Boosting’ Workout Every Man Should Try

When you’re in the public eye, it’s one thing to make sure you always look your best in terms of how you dress or how you style your hair, as they are always ripe for scrutiny. But it also pays to keep yourself physically fit, not only so posters of your likeness can look good across bedroom walls, but also so you have the energy to jump around for an entire show.

Joe Jonas is a man who understands this all too well. The American singer-songwriter who found fame alongside brothers Nick and Kevin as part of The Jonas Brothers, as well as several appearances on The Disney Channel, has since matured into a style icon all of his own, being spotted rocking some enviable watches and trend-setting outfits.

Joe has also recently shared a snippet into how he maintains his fitness when he’s not performing to thousands of fans, or spending quality time with wife and Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner. His method? Skipping.

Check out Joe Jonas’ skipping workout below

We’ve previously discussed how skipping can be an often-overlooked form of cardio, with former jump rope conditioning consultant to the US Olympic team, Buddy Lee, being one to champion its benefits.

RELATED: Learn To Jump Rope Like An Expert From The Man Who Trains The US Olympic Team

Skipping brings numerous benefits, including improving mental health, footwork and agility, as well as stamina. It seems Joe has taken that advice onboard, as he shared a clip of him jumping rope in preparation for “show day.”

Along with his bandmate siblings, Joe recently started touring in the US, and with a multitude of dates lined up ahead of him, he’s going to need some serious endurance. Fortunately, skipping is a perfect workout to improve said endurance, as spending just 10 minutes jumping rope can have the same benefit as running an entire mile in 8 minutes (and we know which one we’d rather do).

Best of all, skipping is an exercise that anyone can do, no matter your fitness level. There is great scope for progression with skipping, and the more you practice, the faster you’ll be able to spin the rope and you can even work your way up to incorporating various movements. Better still, a skipping rope is an incredibly affordable piece of equipment, and one that you can use anywhere, including at home, meaning there’s no excuse to not commit to just 10 minutes a day.

Incredible ‘Car Lover’ Brisbane Home Proves Some Queenslanders Have Good Taste
Incredible ‘Car Lover’ Brisbane Home Proves Some Queenslanders Have Good Taste

Everyone’s got their own checklist of must-haves when they’re looking for a new home – walk-in wardrobes, island kitchens, infinity pools… But the biggest one for any revhead is having a nice big garage. We’re written before here at DMARGE about the insane lengths some revheads go to with their properties when it comes to catering to their car collections. Take this Melburnian who bought, then converted, their neighbour’s house into a panoramic garage; or this Sydneysider, who built a garage with a better view than 99% of all homeowners in the city. But those two pads have nothing on this Brisbane mansion that’s tipped to break the city’s house price record, which features what might just be the biggest suburban garage in the country… Among other oddities.74 Bacton Road, Chandler, in BrisVegas’ south-east, is less of a house and more of a private holiday resort. Sitting on 10,000sqm of land, of which 3,000sqm is under roof, it’s a truly bonkers property that boasts just about every amenity known to man, including a six-bedroom main residence, a separate guesthouse, two gyms, two spas, four offices, two cinemas, a huge pool, as well as a private soccer field and championship-sized tennis court.

Shout-out to the Beetle slumming it next to the Ferrari. Image: realestate.com.au
But it’s the garage that will really get your motor humming. Alone, it’s worth around six times the median Brisbane house price, and can accommodate up to 30 vehicles, currently housing an impressive collection which includes Ferraris, Porsches and Aston Martins, realestate.com.au relates. That resort feel is really amplified by the huge manor driveway and hotel lobby-style front door – you could probably fit another dozen vehicles in the driveway alone (if you’re not precious about your babies not being undercover). It would be great for a rap music video. The garage isn’t even the most ostentatious thing about the house, though. Fancy some virtual driving instead of the real thing, just for a change of pace? Jump on the SEGA Daytona machines in the houses’ private video game arcade. No, we’re not joking.Need a cold beverage after a long drive? Why not head on down to the private, 2000’s era nightclub-style bar and mix yourself an Illusion Shaker or three. What’s with all these houses having private nightclubs? There ain’t no lockout laws in Brisbane…RELATED: Ultimate Family Home Complete With Nightclub Goes Up For Sale In Melbourne74 Bacton Road last sold for $2.75 million back in 2010, with a majority of the house’s big-ticket features being added since then. With Brisbane property prices having risen dramatically over the last decade and the truly insane renovations the place has seen since then, you could expect something well in excess of that figure. Try maybe even ten times that figure.
Where’s the Time Crisis machine though? Image: realestate.com.au

“We think this could be Brisbane’s most expensive house,” marketing agent Heath Williams of Place New Farm relates. “Just the sheer replacement costs of it. An average, well-built, well-specced house would cost $4500 a square metre.”

RELATED: Humble Shack’s Crazy Asking Price Yet Further Evidence Of Australia’s Property Market Insanity

So even if you only counted the roofed meterage of the property, you’d be getting pretty close to double the price – and of course, it’s worth more than the sum of its parts. The current record for the sale of a residential home in Brisbane sits at $18.48 million, which was set by the palatial clifftop 1 Leopard Street, Kangaroo Point back in 2017, by the way.

You’d just want to make sure you’ve got enough gold coins to feed the air hockey table once you were done buying the joint…

The Cold Hard Truth About Australia’s 70% Vaccination Target
The Cold Hard Truth About Australia’s 70% Vaccination Target

Australia is currently battling the ugliest head of COVID-19 – the Delta variant – and case numbers don’t look like slowing soon.

There is another way out of this mess though than lockdowns; vaccinations.

Thanks to an evolving situation meaning evolving medical advice (young people have only been started being encouraged to get AstraZeneca in the last few months), however, there has been some stifling vaccine hesitancy across pockets of the country.

Fortunately, that is now changing. NSW, where the worst outbreak is right now, saw record numbers of residents get vaccinated last week – a feat which Health Minister Brad Hazzard praised, calling “extraordinary.”

In light of the rapidly increasing needle in arm uptake, the government has started making some positive noises regarding milestones we might hit in November and December.

The government’s most recent target is to have 70% of the population 16 and over fully vaccinated by the 2nd of November (and 80% of the population aged 16 and over by December). This comes off the back of the Doherty report, which suggests once you get to 70% you enter a period of transition.

Given the original plan was to have the entire country inoculated by October though (which hasn’t happened), you could be forgiven for being sceptical that we will hit this new target.

So how likely are we, really, to have 70% of Australians fully vaccinated by November (we’re currently at about 29%). Let’s look at some statistics from countries that have already hit the 70% milestone.

At the time of writing, according to Financial Times, only four countries have hit 70% of their population – UAE, Malta, Singapore and Uruguay (with 17.7, 0.8, 8.7 and 5.3 million doses given respectively).

Image Credit: Financial Times. Source: Our World in Data, World Health Organization, national sources, Financial Times research.

The latest data from the World Health Organisation shows it took Singapore 77 days (May 26th – Aug 11th) to go from 29% vaccinated to 70% vaccinated. Singapore has a population of 5.7 million.

It took Israel, another one of the world’s most ‘vaccinated countries’ 186 days (with a population of 9 million) to go from 29% to 60%.

The UAE, for their part, took 138 days to go from 29% to 70%. The UAE has a population of 9.7 million.

Uruguay, which has a population of 3.4 million, got from 29% to 70% in 83 days.

It took the UK (with a population of 66.6 million) 99 days (May the 13th – August the 19th) to go from 29% fully vaccinated to 61%.

For Australia, a country with a population of 25.36 million people, to hit 70% fully vaccinated by the 2nd of November, that would require us to go from 29% (where we are today) to 70% in some 71 days.

Considering we have a significantly larger population than the likes of Israel, Uruguay, the UAE and Singapore, that looks like a very big ask.

One statistic which works in our favour is that we already have a reasonably large percentage of people who have already had their first jab (over 50% of those over 16).

With more and more people rolling up their sleeves and getting the jab, with companies like Qantas offering vaccine incentives and with a population now being told we are going to have to live with the virus (and vaccinate our way out of this) rather than rely on lockdowns, who knows, maybe we’ll get there by November.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has this week said we must “accept the reality of Delta” and that we “can’t pretend we’re somehow extremely special from everywhere else in the world and we can’t pretend that any amount of lockdown alone is going to help the situation.”

“The vaccinations are key. We’ve been saying that from the outset. We said it months ago,” she said.

“And that’s why we are really racing against time to get the vaccine rates up, whilst we’re dealing with the current outbreak.”

“And of course, we want to see those case numbers go down. But for us, the more important figure is getting those vaccination rates up and not going through the emotional rollercoaster every day.”

“Because once we get to 70 per cent, the Doherty report says you enter a period of transition. The Doherty report recommends that we don’t talk about cases but you focus on people in hospital and the vaccination rates which is what matters.”

“That’s what we’ll be doing according to the national plan that every single state has signed up to.”

Some experts say even getting to 70% fully vaccinated will not be enough to start getting back to normal, and that we need to keep case numbers down regardless.

Qantas Offers Spectacular New Vaccine Incentive For Australians
Qantas Offers Spectacular New Vaccine Incentive For Australians

Qantas is encouraging Australians to get vaccinated with a tasty new initiative. The Flying Roo is offering a bunch of prizes to fully vaccinated frrequent flyers (who are 18 and over), including (for a lucky few) a year’s worth of free flights, Accor hotel stays and BP Fuel.

Also on the table are Free Qantas Points, Status Credits and $20 flight discounts. The initiative has been launched in collaboration with Australian singer Tones and I, and is called ‘Be Rewarded.’

Qantas hopes the initiative will help get Australia out of lockdown quicker, with high vaccination rates being key to achieving this.

Qantas announced on Monday, “From tomorrow, fully vaccinated Australian-based Frequent Flyers who are 18 and over will be able to claim their reward through the Qantas App.” When you log into the app you will be faced with one of following three options (you get to pick one):

  • 1000 Qantas points
  • 15 status credits (which help Frequent Flyers move up between Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers)
  • $20 flight discount for Qantas or Jetstar

You will then be automatically entered into a mega prize draw to win a year’s worth of flights, accommodation and fuel.

Qantas says that ten “mega prizes” are floating around too, with a winner to be selected from each state and territory and two mega prize winners as part of a national TV campaign.

“Winners of ten mega prizes will receive a year’s worth of flights to take off to more than 60 destinations around Australia,” Qantas says, “with free accommodation across 345 Accor hotels, resorts and apartments (including Sofitel, Pullman, Peppers, Mantra, Mercure, Mövenpick, Novotel and Ibis) and top up their cars with free fuel from any of bp’s 1,400 service stations across the country.”

“Winners will also be able to take off to any Qantas and Jetstar international destination when borders start to open.”

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said of the initiative: “Getting vaccinated is an important step that every Australian can take that brings us that little bit closer to life as we knew it.”

“As the national carrier, we want to recognise those who have made the effort to protect themselves and the community.”

“This is one of the biggest giveaways we’ve ever done. The impact of the pandemic on the travel industry and our own Qantas Group team members means we have a clear vested interest in the success of the vaccine rollout.”

“Our crews can’t wait to get back to reuniting family and friends, taking people on holiday and putting some energy back into the whole tourism industry. For us, getting the vaccine rate up to 70 and 80 per cent means thousands of people can go back to work.”

He added: “With the Federal Government’s vaccine program ramping up across the country, now is the ideal time to say thank you to Australians for stepping up and protecting themselves and others.”

Keen? Chat to your GP, get yourself vaccinated, and download the Qantas App (via the App Store or through Google Play), use your Medicare app to access and upload your COVID-19 digital vaccination certificate, and select your reward choice.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

‘Tough As Nails’: The American 4×4 The Australian Car Market Is Crying Out For
‘Tough As Nails’: The American 4×4 The Australian Car Market Is Crying Out For

Australia is a bit of a four-wheel-driver’s paradise. Not only do we have some of the most amazing driving roads and tracks in the country, but our relatively permissive vehicle modification rules and extremely diverse automotive landscape means there’s almost limitless potential for off-road action.Of course, there’s one car that dominates the 4×4 scene – the trusty Toyota Land Cruiser – but there’s plenty of options out there for any budding off-roader: the Nissan Patrol, Subaru Outback, Land Rover Defender, Mitsubishi Pajero, Suzuki Jimny… That’s even before you start talking about the wide variety of 4×4 utes that can more than compete with any purpose-built 4×4 SUV.But there’s one American purpose-built 4×4 that Australia desperately needs – the new Ford Bronco. And not just because it’s very, very cool.

There are more than 200 optional accessories for the new Bronco, allowing owners an enormous amount of customisation… For example, these cutaway-style doors are an option. Can’t get that on a Wrangler from the factory. Image: Ford Performance
First produced in 1965, the Bronco was the first SUV Ford ever made and one of the first SUVs ever. It’s an iconic nameplate synonymous with off-road excellence (as well as OJ Simpson’s famous low-speed highway chase, unfortunately). After a 25-year-long hiatus, Ford has revived the Bronco name in 2021, with an all-new, quite high-tech model aimed squarely at the Jeep Wrangler.Indeed, the new Bronco boasts many of the signature features of the Wrangler, and often improves on its winning formula. Like the Wrangler, it’s easy to take the hardtop or the doors off a Bronco – but you can actually stow them on board the car if you need to put them back on later, unlike its rival. Both have hardy, easy-clean interiors but the Bronco’s is more modern and has better infotainment options. Crucially, you can get a manual at every trim level for the Bronco – something Jeep only offers on base models.RELATED: Australia’s Most Beloved Car Engine Is Now An Endangered SpeciesIt’s easy to get lost in the nitty-gritty between the Wrangler and the Bronco, which is not the point of this article. A detailed comparison of the two vehicles can be found on Car and Driver if you’re so inclined. The reason we’d like to see the Bronco come Down Under isn’t just because it’s an exceedingly cool vehicle (although that is a contributing factor) – it’s because it might help take the heat out of the exceedingly hot car market we’re currently suffering under.
The Bronco, like the Wrangler, is available in 2-door or 4-door variants. Image: Ford Performance
The pandemic has seen the Australian car market go absolutely bonkers, with prices of second-hand cars incredibly hot. But 4x4s have seen perhaps the most intense price hikes, as the popularity of road trips and off-roading has skyrocketed thanks to Australia’s domestic and international border closures. You don’t need frequent flyer miles to hit a bush track…So while there’s a wide range of 4x4s on the Australian market, many of the most popular and suitable vehicles have become prohibitively expensive, both new and used. Prices for a new Land Cruiser or Patrol start at around $80,000 – that’s dire – and you can be paying as much as double the MSRP for popular cars like the Jimny on the second-hand market.RELATED: Toyota Land Cruiser ‘Blood Pact’ Shows How Crazy Australia’s Car Market Has BecomeIf the Bronco were to come to Australia, it could potentially take some of the heat out of the market. Indeed, they could even try and undercut Jeep – a two-door Bronco starts at US$29,995 (~AU$41,880), whereas a two-door Wrangler starts at AU$48,950. Admittedly, that would be a surprising move, but even if they double the price, the arrival of the Bronco would provide some price relief. Here’s hoping, at least.

Europeans May Have Their Freedom But Their Domestic Business Class Sucks
Europeans May Have Their Freedom But Their Domestic Business Class Sucks

There’s a lot to feel frustrated about Down Under. We had an early lead in the race to get over COVID-19. Now squandered. We could travel domestically. Not anymore. We haven’t had the ability to travel internationally for some time. And it’s still not likely to return any time soon. But if all this talk of Delta is getting you down, allow us to take the sheen off some of the FOMO you’ve been seeing in Europe just a little: Europeans may have more freedom of movement than us right now, but their domestic business class still sucks. That’s what we took from frequent flyer and pointy end points hacker Immanuel Debeer’s post over the weekend, anyway.

Taking to his Instagram Stories on Saturday, Debeer gave followers a glimpse into one of his domestic European flights on the “Swiss A320.”He wrote: “52 people in business on the Swiss A320. Euro business is the biggest con ever. They just move the curtains back more as people ‘bid to upgrade.'”

“Currently 13 rows of business fully booked.”

He also posted a video in an exit row economy seat with the caption: “More legroom than business” [watch below].

Despite flying economy on this particular venture, Debeer paid $90 for TAP Gold, which he says was “a life saver at check in and fast track security” and also gave him lounge access. So: though looking at photos from across the world might give you a manic dose of FOMO, rest assured that even though we’re not flying anywhere right now, our domestic business class offerings here in Australia are still some of the best in the world (many have called Virgin Australia’s domestic business class the best domestic business class in the world). No one, anywhere, though, has a bar on this “lost era of business class” from the 80s…

Justin Bieber’s Lobster Dinner Outfit Is Too Good For Us Peasants

Justin Bieber doesn’t dress up very often. The 27-year-old Canadian pop superstar is known for his love of baggy tracksuits and Crocs. He also loves nothing more than an oversized loud shirt or ratty cargo pants. He even wore Jordans with an ill-fitting suit to meet Emmanuel Macron. So it’s surprising when he gets dolled up… But as his latest culinary escapade proves, it’s really something he should try doing more often.Last week, ‘The Biebs’ was spotted in Los Angeles wearing a white tuxedo to a fancy lobster dinner and then later to an art gallery, brandishing a silver-topped cane – perfect for cracking open shells (or skulls) or beating away the hoi polloi. Ridiculous… but incredibly baller.

Images: Backgrid / @justinbieber
Apparently, the dinner was part of a friend’s 1920s-themed party. Nothing says the Roaring Twenties like getting stuck into some lobster thermidor and waving a cane around. All he needs is a monocle…That said, not every adoring fan loved the look, with one quipping “is this the Monopoly Man?” Other choice comments on social media include “it’s probably super expensive, but that tux looks like a cheap polyester rental” and “this guy goes from extreme to another.”RELATED: How To Wear A Tuxedo To Master Black Tie OccasionsAh well. Sartorial choices aside, Bieber seems to be making all the right moves in 2021. Justice, his sixth studio album which came out in March, is still going gangbusters – and he’s not resting on his laurels, either, as if his social media presence is anything to go off of, he’s still recording plenty of music. He’s also doing well in the feature game: rising Australian hip-hop star (and seemingly Bieber’s new best friend) The Kid Laroi’s latest single Stay, which features the Canuck as a guest vocalist, has been sitting on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 4 weeks now.

Scientists Discover New Gut Bacteria That ‘Makes You Thin’
Scientists Discover New Gut Bacteria That ‘Makes You Thin’

For anyone wishing to lose weight, a huge obstacle is to find a method that not only works, but one that sticks. According to the World Health Organisation, some 13% of the adult population were classified as obese in 2016, meaning they had a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 30 or higher. Expect this percentage to have increased slightly in the previous five years.

While we’re always told that changing our diet and exercising are the two most effective ways to shed fat, either by putting ourselves into a calorie deficit, or even doing some strength training to increase muscle mass – which aids in the fight against fat loss – at the end of the day, it can be difficult to stick to a routine and summon the motivation or dedication.

This is why health food stores and supermarket shelves are often stocked with products all promising to help you lose weight, simply by taking a pill or drinking a ‘specially formulated’ milkshake. However, these products seldom provide lasting change and can often be subject to some genius (read: manipulative) marketing campaigns. And after all, we live in a society where convenience is king, so if we can take a pill over running 10km everyday to lose weight claims to offer the same results, it’s no wonder the weight loss product industry is a booming business.

Nutritionist Madeline Calfas, founder of The Wellness Group agrees, saying “Weight [loss] supplement marketing is a billion dollar industry.”

“We are constantly bombarded with the latest magical fruit or extract, amino acid and vitamins that guarantees to speed up our metabolism and have the fat just melt away.”

“The majority of these are selling due to their ability to target those of us who have genuine weight-loss struggles. Any effectiveness that they might claim is more likely due to the fact that supplements are taken at the same time that diet and exercise modifications are made.”

So, what if there was a naturally produced gut bacteria that could help you burn fat? It sounds almost too good to be true (and in reality, it probably is), but a new study has got tongues wagging all about it.

Health-hacker Dave Asprey recently shared the study, conducted by The Science Times, to Instagram. The study found the bacteria, known as Subdoligranulum, was “nearly absent in obese and diabetic people while found in healthy individuals.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Dave Asprey (@dave.asprey)

“This new research is groundbreaking because people who are fat or prediabetic (like I used to be) don’t have this newly discovered type of bacteria called dysosmobacter welbionis,” Asprey writes.

“What’s cool about it is that in addition to making butyrate, it causes your body to grow new mitochondria. That’s huge!”

“It’s not available in supplement form, so for now, your best bet is a heavy make-out session with someone who’s really healthy so they can share bacteria with you.”

Asprey then wonders “if this is why fecal transplants work?”

The findings came as a result of a research study conducted by Patrice Cani of the  University of Louvain in Belgium, who concluded that this “bacterium is the only cultivated strain of this bacterial family that exists, the only identified member of a large family.”

It was called Dysosmobacter welbionis, and after studying its effects in mice at great lengths, researchers found “the bacteria increased the number of mitochondria, and thus, decreased weight and sugar levels, on top of exerting strong anti-inflammatory effects.”

While Asprey says it’s “not available in supplement form,” its discovery could potentially lead to such supplements existing. But would it actually allow us to lose weight?

Madeline doubts it. In fact, it’s probably more a symptom of being healthy, rather than a (good) way to become healthy.

“Dysomobacter welbionis is what is known as a commensal bacteria – it is a bacteria that we would simply classify as a ‘good’ bacteria as it appears to offer a benefit to us simply by being in our gut.”

“The study of this bacteria has shown that it can increase mitochondrial function (mitochondria are your energy power cells) and prevent obesity and metabolic disorders in mice.”

“When it comes to weight loss, it is impossible to lose weight simply by taking a supplement and not adjusting any other factors to your life.”

“There are many reasons why people gain (and are subsequently unable to) lose weight, and it is a complex process that occurs in the body.”

People have tried weird and wacky ways to lose weight ever since the 1960s (and probably much longer). In this image members of the Bluebell Dancing troop demonstrate how to use hip slimming machines in a Paris beauty parlour. (Photo by Keystone/Getty Images)

“There are many factors that may be involved ranging from the obvious poor diet choices through to looking at chronically increased inflammation and adrenal function, hormone dysfunction and genetic variances, as well as lifestyle choices,” Madeleine adds.

“Especially in the current pandemic climate, more of us are living a sedentary lifestyle and are simply not moving our bodies which slows down our metabolic requirements.”

“Having Dysomobacter welbionis available as a supplement could provide some positive outcomes to weight loss, but it would need to be in conjunction with a change in lifestyle and diet, just like weight-loss surgery requires a change in diet and lifestyle.”

Speaking of the diet supplements currently available, Madeline adds, “supplements such as acetyl L-carnitine, an amino acid that helps to transport fatty acids to your mitochondria to produce energy – which essentially helps your body to burn fat – still need to be taken in conjunction with exercise and dietary modifications.”

At the end of the day, doing things naturally is always the best idea.

“They also ideally need to be taken in conjunction with a health professional to ensure it is being used correctly – too much can cause side effects such as an increase in blood pressure, headaches, trouble sleeping, diarrhoea, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting to name a few.”

“There are are few practitioner-only brands of supplements that are designed to help stimulate metabolism and help the body to increase its ability to burn fat for energy”, she adds.

“Some will also target adrenals as well, as it has been known that chronically elevated adrenal hormones can impede fat loss. But these are always in conjunction with dietary and lifestyle changes.”

“A practitioner can give you all the nutritional support you like, but none of that will change if you don’t put the milkshake down and get up and move.”

So, to answer the question – is there really a gut bacteria that can make you thinner? – the answer is a sort-of yes.

Researching the dark matter of the intestine can have its benefits, but rather than wait for some bizarre bacterium to become available in supplement form, it’s a better idea to change your diet, start exercising and allow your body may start producing the good stuff of its own accord.

In other words: there are still no shortcuts. But don’t despair: if you’re after motivation, look no further than this David Goggins video.
